(Looking to watch 3rd Life, Last Life or Double Life? Here you go!)

If you are looking for a guide of some Limited Life episodes to catch up on for no particular reason at all (certainly not a new season being around the corner), I've got you covered!

Now I'm not going to lie, trying to curate this list for Limited Life broke me. The mechanics of this season meant that you gained time by killing other players and in doing so it felt like 50 things were happening all at once constantly across the server. As such I haven't been able to get absolutely everything onto this list, but I did try my best to get all the important events and a wide range of perspectives!

WARNING: Incredibly long read more where I go over why I picked certain POV's and what to expect. I do so love to ramble. Spoilers ahead!

SESSION ONE

Skizz - Breaking from tradition from recommending Grian first because you need to watch Skizz's POV first out of everyone unspoiled. The way things unraveled this episode felt like a sitcom in the best and worst ways lol

Grian - Just a good solid first episode honestly and with the start of the Bad Boys™ how can you not love it.

Scar - I really have no words for whatever is the dynamic of the Clockers because you really just have to see it to understand. It’s a fun episode and as Scar, Cleo and Bdubs have set up near spawn, you always get to see something interesting.

Big B - Big B’s episodes are always a treat as he does super long ones that give you a little more insight into what's happening on the server, rather than just the big events. But if you wanted something specific to watch, his last 10 minutes of this episode were a blast.

SESSION TWO

Joel - Bad Boys Bread Bridge was both the most amazing and ugliest build on the server and I’m so glad it was made. Also Joel gets some amazing kills this episode that are so tense to watch.

Martyn - Look this one is here because of a little personal bias. Martyn shouts me out in the episode so I couldn’t not add it lol It’s also a very good episode in of itself in that it introduces the Mean Gills and I’ll always be a Mean Gills supporter. Also that Tilly roast? oof

Pearl - Pearl is constantly on the move this episode and living up to her Nosy Neighbour title so watch her episode if you want some good gossip and to see the lay of the land.

Tango - Tango always delivers a solid episode and as he was building the TIES Tower a majority of the time he receives a lot of foot traffic through the area creating some fun interactions.

SESSION THREE

Scar - And in this episode of Limited Life, Scar rediscovers the joys of minecart TNT.

Impulse - Impulse is such a fun boogey to watch, and the way he edited this episode around his thought process of who to kill was great.

Grian - Kind of a different episode this session as Grian was sick so he was afk the entire time. It was very very very funny to watch, but as he wasn’t interacting with anyone you’re going to miss a lot of context if you only watch his POV. You should still give this a watch though!

Joel - Watching poor Joel run around after Grian trying to keep him safe was incredibly entertaining lmao

SESSION FOUR

Scott - I believe Grian said it best, but this session felt like a final session with the way the yellows were chasing after the greens. It was pure chaos the entire time and Scott beautifully evading them all until his descent into yellow was perfection.

Tango - Tango is here for the same reason as Scott but as the last green the final hunt for him was terrifying to watch.

Cleo - I love Cleo’s episodes and this one was just a joy. She was slightly sick this week but I feel like that only lowered her inhibitions to do some out of pocket stuff.

Jimmy - The exciting saga of Judge Judy and Executioner continues in Jimmy’s episode this week and if you didn’t know anything about it, that's ok! Neither did anyone else on the server except for Jimmy, Pearl and Big B lmao consider this the best episode to watch if you want this plotline covered.

SESSION FIVE

Etho - Considering the episode starts off with Etho having to babysit Bdubs, then an awkward family dinner and an explosive game of catch, I really couldn’t have asked for a better Etho video.

Big B - This session was a lot more calm than the previous, so there was a lot more alliance talk happening. Big B has a great perspective on all that as he and Pearl get up to a tonne of mischief that causes some problems with some alliances they already had.

Scott - Once again this was an alliance building week and Scott’s episode really highlights some of the more fun things that happened to make and break some relationships.

Grian - Poor Bread Bridge o7 you will be missed. Thankfully M-Rye 5 was there at the end to rain chaos from above. (<-sentences that make no sense out of context)

SESSION SIX

Cleo & Pearl - I couldn’t choose between either of these two this session. Both Cleo and Pearl were out sick so they handed over their accounts to two other players. I won’t spoil who they are but these episodes were amazing.

Jimmy - The Bad Boys were going through it this week goddamn lol It never stops being funny how much of a mess everything becomes when they get together.

Martyn - It was his birthday this session and he’s just a little guy! Surely nothing would go wrong at his birthday party? And certainly not caused by him!

Tango - The last half of Tango’s episode is just a comical amount of deaths that only get funnier and funnier as the time between them shortens.

SESSION SEVEN

Skizz - Oh Skizz. You are too good for this world. His ending for this episode was heartbreaking and Affirmation Station will live on in my heart forever.

Scott - I love watching Scott run around the map and hunt people down because he is so good at the game! I believe he had the highest kill count this session and I loved every minute of it.

Joel - (Major Spoilers) Ah Joel it just wasn’t meant to be! But hearing the desperation in his voice grow higher and higher as the clock ticked down was nail biting. Scar - Just a good Scar episode honestly! Shows what the Clockers are up to during all the chaos and a great view of the server devolving into anarchy.

SESSION EIGHT

Martyn - WOOOO YESSSS LETS GOOOOOO (<- does that count as spoilers???)

I distinctly remember being on the edge of my seat this whole episode and Martyn delivers in every way possible for a fantastic final episode of the season.

Impulse - I haven’t mentioned it yet but Impulse’s editing this season went wild and it's none more apparent than in this episode. He and his team went crazy for the finale.

Etho - Such a fun episode!! The twist at the end with the diamond sword coming into play was everything I could have wanted and more.

Pearl - It was really a toss up between Pearl and Scott for this last spot, but I loved her perspective for the one last minigame on the server.

BONUS

Bdubs - Do you have a spare 12 hours to dedicate to Limited Life? Then oh boy does Bdubs have a video for you! Instead of weekly videos he decided to collate all his episodes into one mammoth video which was an absolute blast to watch over a weekend! It’s a really interesting POV to watch because when LimLife was airing Bdubs would just appear all over the map and we never had any idea what he was doing so it was awesome to have some concrete evidence of his shenanigans. Definitely give this one a watch if you’re in the mood for a marathon!

IN SUMMARY…

I swear if the next season is as messy as this one, I think I’m going to have to start taking notes when it's airing because I think this took years off my life haha if you think I’ve missed anything please tag it because I would love to see it! I definitely could have added more POV’s per session like I did with the Last Life and 3rd Life guides, but I think a more curated list helps keep down the overwhelming nature of trying to watch a million Limited Life episodes.

But really, I loved watching Limited Life live so I’m glad I give myself an excuse each new season to go back and watch the season over again. There are so many little foreshadowed moments that you don’t see on the first watch and honestly it all just makes me more excited for the new season! Thanks for reading <3

Is this a case of crazy wokery I see before me? Actors ridicule university trigger warnings over blood in Macbeth

Queen University Belfast has issued a warning to students studying Shakespeare

It stressed Macbeth 'could cause offence' due to its depictions of 'bloodshed'

Similar warnings have been applied to the Twelfth Night and Titus Andronicus

It is Shakespeare's most violent play – a bloody saga packed with stabbing, strangling and poisoning that reaches a grisly climax with a beheading.

And for more than 400 years audiences have been enthralled – if a little disturbed – by the butchery of Macbeth.

But now one of the UK's top universities stands accused of 'infantilising' students after it warned them they might be 'offended' by the 'bloodshed' in the play.

Queen's University Belfast has issued the warning to undergraduates studying a module called Further Adventures in Shakespeare on its BA English course.

'You are advised that this play could cause offence as it references and / or deals with issues and depictions relating to bloodshed,' the warning, a copy of which has been obtained by this newspaper under Freedom of Information laws, states.

The university has also applied similar warnings to the Bard's Richard III, Twelfth Night and Titus Andronicus.

Some of Britain's biggest theatrical stars last night branded the warnings counterproductive and unnecessary. They point out that Macbeth, which was first performed in 1606, is particularly popular with schoolchildren.

Sir Ian McKellen, who starred opposite Dame Judi Dench in Sir Trevor Nunn's landmark 1976 RSC production, said warnings such as this could undermine the dramatic impact of the piece.

He said: 'My sister (a teacher) used to show Sir Trevor Nunn's TV version of the 1976 Macbeth to her teenage students.

'She'd pull down the blinds, start the video and then leave the classroom and count the minutes till she heard the first scream from within. Had the youngsters had trigger warnings in advance, the effect of the play would have been considerably diminished.'

He added: 'I remember talking to a priest who saw a number of performances of the stage production at the Stratford Other Place.

'He would hold out his crucifix throughout the performance, to protect the audience from the devilry conjured by the cast. I suppose these triggers are something similar.'

Call The Midwife star Jenny Agutter, who has acted in Shakespeare's The Tempest, King Lear and Love's Labour's Lost, said: 'I don't understand why anyone should feel warnings are necessary for Shakespeare's plays. Unless we need to be constantly warned that depicting human nature might cause offence.'

Sir Richard Eyre, the former Director of the National Theatre who has directed productions of Hamlet, Richard III and King Lear, said: 'It's completely fatuous and totalitarian to try to police people's minds with these absurd warnings. Ridiculous, contemptible, infantilising.

Presumably the people putting out the trigger warnings feel they are able to cope with the content of these plays, but weaker, younger, less intelligent people aren't.' Doctor Who star David Tennant and The Good Wife actress Cush Jumbo are due to star in a new production of Macbeth which opens in London in December. It is one of four major productions of the play set to open in the UK.

Queen's Belfast's trigger warning for Twelfth Night centres on what it calls the 'depictions relating to sexuality or gender. Warnings for Richard III and Titus Andronicus relate to depictions of disability in the former and 'race and or racism' in the latter. A spokesperson for Queen's University Belfast declined to comment.

The saga of the Aldecaldos' coffee machine continues, as Mitch, the veterans and Panam decide to make their displeasure with the machine well-known.

Legend has it they heard the blast in Night City.

Val has a tendency to speak Cebuano (Binisaya) in moments of stress, kinda like how Jackie swears in Spanish.

I mean, Jimmy and Joel also didn't do too well keeping him alive and safe /lh.

Well like I said, the odds were pretty impossible, given the givens. :D We know from the saga of Judge Judy and Executioner that even hiding someone inside a mountain is not foolproof, but Grian actually wanted an episode out of this nonsense, so he had to stay out in the open on a server where everybody and their fake brother has beef with him from three whole series of him being an absolute gremlin.

I fully believe that if Jimmy and Joel hadn't spent most of their time chasing people off him, there would've been an informal competition involving gradually more elaborate deathtraps for our AFK friend and his unfortunate llama, probably culminating either in some kind of insane piston-fueled squashing machine from TIES or the Clockers scootching him up to build height and pushing him off into space. Or just, you know, more and more and more TNT until the Bread Bridge became the Pita Pit.

Top 5 ( or 10) period dramas

Thank you! Also so tough! Classic Lit adaptations, general period drama, which period, films, tv series.... /flails about.

OK, so for the purposes of this ask, I'm going for 20th C Brit TV period drama series, so with the caveat that you need to be prepared for the style, pace and other hazards of 1960s-70s TV, I think these five are still unbeatable:

Upstairs Downstairs (ITV 1970s)

Upstairs Downstairs is a brilliant, compelling original drama about one upper class London house and its family and servants, and often a surprisingly hard-hitting examination of the class system, made in an era when they could still make use of living memory to recreate the Edwardian era. (Despite my gif, it is a colour production - a handful of s1 eps were hit by a strike at Thames TV and had to be made in b&w!)

2. The Forsyte Saga (BBC 1967)

The Forsyte Saga is an epic adaptation of Galsworthy's series of novels (covering the story of one middle class family from the late 19thC to the 1920s). It has a truly amazing cast and was a sensation worldwide back in the 60s - and a true passion project for its producer. It's complex, in depth and full of theatrical nuance and was the last hurrah of the Beeb's classic drama in black and white.

These two are probably the biggest Brit TV period dramas of all time. Purely because of the way TV is watched now, you will never get those audiences again - both were popular enough to get remade in the 21st C, but while both of those series are fine, neither can quite match the originals in terms of depth or cultural impact). Definitely not overrated - and the same is true of this next entry:

3. Elizabeth R (BBC 1970)

Glenda Jackson is awesome as Elizabeth I - what more needs to be said? This is another all-time famous BBC production that's stood the test of time.

4. Poldark (BBC 1975-1977)

Even if this weren't purely 20th C shows, I confess I'd have to plump for this adaptation rather than the more recent every time - while s1 makes a few changes to the novels, it consistently 'gets' the books and what Graham is saying in them in a way the 21st C one seems to be deliberately refusing to engage with (despite a very nice cast!) Plus, give me Angharad Rees and Robin Ellis together, Ralph Bates, Judy Geeson in fabulous outfits, Ross's fighter pilot leather jacket (see above re. getting it - even the costume designer got it), actually, everybody's colourful jackets, excellent treatment of class issues involved, Francis generally, and just that bit more fire and bite somehow. (Er. Literally in the case of S1, lol! Watch the 1970s burn down buildings that shouldn't be burnt!)

5. Enemy at the Door (ITV 1978-1980)

A less obvious choice, but this WWII drama set during the Occupation of the Channel Islands is just so well written, with complexity and compassion, exploring all the issues of the situation, with finely drawn regulars on both sides. I've come back to it so many times, and I know that other people who've taken the time to watch it have loved it, too, so it's not just me. It's not an action-drama, like a lot of WWII things - it's a show about people trapped in a situation where action is often limited - but if you like thoughtful and painful exploration of the greyer areas of humanity, it's sadly unfinished, but it's one of the best.

(And, I know, I know, where's I, Claudius? But it gave me nightmares about Brian Blessed dying, so it's not on my personal list!! ;-p)

I write a lot of fics with bittersweet endings, but I think I have three fics that are contenders for "angstiest ending":

Not Worth It (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia), which is a Charlie-POV character study, centred around his recovery after he breaks his legs.

all these immovable objects (Arrested Development), which is about Michael having a breakdown during Season 4.

Survive The Fire (Veronica Mars), which is about how Weevil is impacted by being shot.

7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Maybe everything's changed (but I feel the same inside) (Brooklyn Nine Nine), which is about Jake's journey to becoming a published author after he quits the NYPD.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Nope.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I'm too ace to write smut I think. I'm worried I don't have enough, ahem, experience (or imagination) to write good smut, so I'm too nervous to try. Doesn't mean I don't like reading smut though!

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Not really. I have one fic posted with multiple fandoms tagged (Brooklyn Nine Nine and One Direction), which is about Jake and Doug Judy getting high and talking about One Direction. So it's not truly a crossover.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Sort of, but not really.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! Racoonims translated my fic The Hardest to Learn is the Least Complicated (Brooklyn Nine Nine) over on ff(.)net a number of years ago. It was really cool to see how they approached translating my joke about "bi-dey sense" (like spidey sense but for bisexuals, lmao), since it was a bit more English context-specific. Also I can read French pretty well, so I also got to enjoy the translation!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nope, but I'd be open to it.

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

I truly don't think I can pick an all-time ship. I'm also not really that shippy of a person and I rarely write shippy fic. Eli "Weevil" Navarro from Veronica Mars is probably pretty close to my character of all time, though.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I have a lot of ideas I love that I'll likely never write (like my multigenerational Peralta saga or a character study about Mac McDonald's relationship to religion). But in terms of WIPs I've actually started writing? I try to never say never. But I have a few tiny bits and pieces of a Veronica Mars AU about the characters 'making it out' of Neptune that I probably won't ever finish. And I have two lines of a fic about Jake and Rosa at the Police Academy--a fic I've talked about for years but doubt I'll ever write.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I'm good at writing dialogue in the voices of characters. I find it very easy (and fun!) to mimic the voices of characters--cadence, word choice, sentence construction, perspective. I think my writing voice is pretty good. I like the way I structure my sentences and the way my writing flows in my head.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I'm not a very bold editor. I'm not very good or experienced at reshaping a fic in the editing stage. I essentially line edit as I go as I write my first draft, and then I just do a quick copy edit before I post. I'm also not great at writing physical descriptions of characters. In fic, the reader already knows what the characters look like, how they gesture and move and so on, and so I tend to just skip describing all that in much detail.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

If the fic is in English, I really dislike it unless the author is a fluent speaker. I don't mind a few words in another language here and there (having a Spanish speaker calling their grandma Abuela for example), but otherwise I would just write it in English and indicate in the text that the dialogue is in another language. Too often, I feel like adding in other languages as a non-native speaker ends up feeling....exoticize-y. I think this opinion probably comes from reading a lot of fic about Weevil from Veronica Mars where it felt like authors over-emphasized him speaking Spanish as part of a larger feeling, in my opinion, of exoticzing him. That all being said, I did use a line of Italian (from Google translate) in my fic Don't Forget Where You Belong, because for plot-specific reasons I needed it to actually be written in Italian.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Veronica Mars.

20. Favourite fic you've written?

It changes all the time. I'm super, super proud of Don't Forget Where You Belong (One Direction), and I think it tells a really unique story. I really love how Murder at the Rink (Brooklyn Nine Nine) is a sort of love letter to my hometown and to the teen sleuth novels and TV shows that raised me. And I just recently published The Gang Starts a Boyband (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia), which is a kind of missing episode, and I had the best time writing it! I made myself laugh, and that's what's most important.
