So The Drama: A Bit of A Mess (Redux)
Regardless of my feelings on Kim/Ron, I think the show could've done a better job of portraying them as having feelings for each other.
In "Grudge Match" Kim mocks and insults Ron for even suggesting that people might think they date. This does not indicate that she's secretly crushing on him.
In "Emotion Sickness" Ron is uncomfortable with the idea of dating Kim. This does not indicate that he's secretly crushing on her.
In "Bad Boy" Kim suggests Ron take a date to Rueben's wedding, but gets uncomfortable when he asks her to go. They both agree that it's not a "date-date".
(I will give them props, Kim and Ron's conversation about the main characters of Agony County getting together was a nice lampshade.)
I will admit that Kim was jealous of Yori in "Gorilla Fist", and her conversation with Ron about Yori crushing on him could be a nice parallel to Kim's situation.
However, Kim was also jealous of Felix in "Steal Wheels", so it's not like she has to consider someone to be romantic rival to be jealous of them.
Ron is never shown to have issues with Kim dating, even attempting to help Kim with Josh.
And, though she doesn't seem to think highly of Ron, she doesn't have a problem with Ron dating.
Before "So The Drama" there wasn't a lot to indicate that they were attracted to each other.
Actually, there was more to indicate that they only see each other as friends than that they were secretly attracted to each other.
In "So The Drama" we get a lot of Ron pining over Kim, but only one line near the beginning that might indicate Kim is also pining over Ron.
And then, there's Eric.
Eric was perfect for Kim, and she begins to ignore Ron because of him.
This prompts Ron to realize his feelings for Kim, but he doesn't act on them until after Eric is revealed to be part of Drakken's plan.
Which is another problem; Eric was part of Drakken's plan.
Aside from one line at the beginning, there wasn't much to indicate that Kim was crushing on Ron. So having her date him after it's revealed that Eric was part of Drakken's plan makes it seem like Ron's the rebound.
Honestly, having two people end up together because the alternate love interest was no longer an option is kind of lazy writing.
(Granted, they hadn't been expecting the show to continue after this, so I'm not too surprised.)
Still, Kim ended up with Ron not because he was the better option but because he was the only option.
And that's just unfair to both of them.

Vandals survive Wyoming's upset bid, win a thriller: 28-19
There may not be many better matchups in West Coast College Football than what took place on Saturday in the Kibbie Dome. The 2-0 Wyoming Cowboys invaded Moscow, Idaho to take on the 2-0 Vandals. The game turned in to an all out war in the trenches, and eventually saw the Vandals emerge victorious with a hard fought 28-19 victory.
The Wyoming quarterback, Josh Allen, who is expected to be a top NFL draft pick was surgical through the air, completing 18 of his 26 passing attempts for 246 yards and 2 touchdowns. Allen was also dinged with an interception, but it took place on a meaningless hail mary at the end of the game. Allen's favorite target on the day, simply could not be stopped, only contained. Josh Harshman the Junior tight end from Casper, Wyoming caught 9 of Allen's passes for 164 yards and gave the Vandals defense fits all day long. Milo Hall, the Cowboys leading rusher, carried 12 times for 78 yards, and was largely held in check as a large percentage of his yardage came on just a few of his carries.
On the other side of the field, the Vandals offense seemed to finally pass the torch from Aaron Duckworth to Dylan Thigpen. In the Idaho rushing attack, while Duckworth is still listed as the starter, he carried just 12 times for 47 yards. Thigpen, who also has emerged as a star in the kick return game, rushed 27 times for 122 yards and a touchdown. Thigpen was the featured guy in the offense, and it appears that he will continue to step even further into that role as the season rolls on.
Matt Linehan completed 17 of his 25 passes for 169 yards and 3 touchdowns. Linehan also threw a costly interception on a goal-to-go situation that prevented the Vandals from opening up their lead in the 2nd half.
The Idaho defense, while it seemed confused at times during this game, still was able to hold the Cowboys offense to just 19 points, which considering the weapons they possess, is no small feat. Jordan Grabski had 8 tackles, including 1 for a loss to lead the way on defense. Defensive tackle, Arie Anderson added another 2 sacks to his growing total on the season.
The Vandals received the opening kickoff, and drove deep into Cowboys territory, and decided to go for it on a 4th and 5. Matt Linehan completed his pass to David Ungerer on the play, but he was stopped short and the Cowboys took over on downs. On the ensuing possession, Wyoming marched down the field and took a 7-0 lead.
Idaho answered the Wyoming touchdown with one of their own with 5:46 left in the 2nd quarter on a pass from Linehan to Onunwor. Wyoming then showed that they were not going to just roll over and allow the Vandals home crowd to get back into the game. Allen led another scoring drive, and put the Cowboys ahead 13-7 after a missed PAT.
Near the end of the first half, Wyoming missed a 48 yard field goal, to give Idaho good field position, trailing by 6 with 1:32 to go in the first half. Relying on the right arm of Linehan, the Vandals drove deep into Cowboys territory and faced a 4th an 5 from the 12 yard line with just 5 seconds left in the half. Coach Idaho Coach decided to go for it, and his gamble paid off. The savvy coach called for a screen pass to Dylan Thigpen, who caught the pass in the flat, and scampered untouched into the end zone for a Vandals touchdown with no time left on the clock to give Idaho a 14-13 halftime lead.
Idaho was able to extend their lead in the 3rd quarter, as Linehan found Rueben Mwehla for an 18 yard touchdown strike with 3:24 left in the period. That score gave Idaho a 21-13 advantage. Wyoming though, would not go away. Allen once again led a drive down the field and scored, to make the game 21-19 after a potentially game tying 2-point conversion, failed.
A 4th quarter lead of 2 points in their pocket, and the ball in the offense's hand, the Vandals looked for the knockout blow. Idaho drove deep into Cowboys territory, mostly on the legs of Thigpen. Then, a potentially fatal mistake was made as Linehan did not see a lurking middle linebacker and threw an interception. Wyoming now had the ball back, down by just 2 points with 6:42 left in the game.
Wyoming twice converted on long 3rd downs, driving into Vandals territory and certainly raising the anxiety level of the Vandals fans inside the Kibbie Dome. Then, the Idaho defense stiffened and forced a 4th down and 3. The Cowboys elected to keep the ball on the ground, but they were met by a wall of Idaho defenders, who stuffed the run for a loss on the play, giving the ball back to the Vandals on downs, and setting off an eruption of noise inside the Kibbie Dome.
Idaho was then able to march down the field, score an exclamation point touchdown with 10 seconds left in the ball game and come out with a victory over Wyoming by a final score of 28-19.
Coach Idaho Coach addressed the media following the game:
"That was a heck of a college football game. You talk about physicality, and desire and heart? Those two teams out there today had all that and more, what a terrific ball game. I have to give Wyoming a ton of credit, that is one of the best teams we have played in a long time, they are tough and I can see why they beat Oregon. I wish them success moving forward, they were classy in defeat, and gave us all we could handle.
Our guys were incredible today. We faced a lot of adversity, which I think is something we needed after a couple of games where we were just sort of waiting for the game to end, to start the season.
The defense really stepped up when we needed them, and so did our crowd. The student section was awesome today, on that 4th down stop in the 4th quarter, I couldn't hear the coach standing next to me, it was awesome.
Obviously when there is a home game like this, where you nearly lose the game, there are going to be things to work on, but I'm just really happy with how we responded to the adversity we faced today. We have another really tough game next week, and I feel like now we won't just go to pieces if something goes wrong."
The Vandals take on the Colorado State Rams next week in the Kibbie Dome.
Final Score:
Vandals: 28
Cowboys: 19

"GANGSTER SQUAD" (2013) Review
Tumblr media
"GANGSTER SQUAD" (2013) Review Every now and then, Hollywood would release a movie with a story based upon a particular event or individual from Los Angeles' history. Movies such as "CHINATOWN", "L.A. CONFIDENTIAL", and "CHANGELING" are examples. Six years ago, Hollywood released a movie about a moment in Los Angeles' history called "GANGSTER SQUAD".
I must admit that I found myself surprised that the origin of the plot for "GANGSTER SQUAD" came from L.A. history. According to the book, "Tales from the Gangster Squad" by Paul Lieberman, Chief William Parker and the Los Angeles Police Department formed a group of officers and detective called the "Gangster Squad unit" in an effort to keep Los Angeles safe from gangster Mickey Cohen and his gang in the late 1940s and the 1950s. Screenwriter Will Beall took elements of Lieberman's book and wrote a movie about the L.A.P.D.'s efforts to fight organized crime in the Southland. The movie starts in 1949 Los Angeles, where Cohen has become the most powerful figure in the California criminal underworld. Cohen has plans to expand his enterprises across the Western United States via the gambling rackets. Because the gangster has eliminated witnesses and bribed both the courts and the police, Chief Parker and the L.A.P.D. have not been able to stop Cohen's rise. In a desperate move, Parker recruits the incorruptible and ruthless Sergeant John O'Mara to form a unit to wage guerilla warfare on Cohen's operations and drive the gangster out of Southern California. O'Hara, with the help of his very pregnant wife Connie, recruit the following men for his new unit: *Coleman Harris, a tough beat cop from the South Central Los Angeles neighborhood *Conway Keeler, a brainy wire-tapper *Max Kennard, a legendary veteran gangster killer and sharp-shooter Kennard's young partner, Navidad Ramirez tracks down the squad and O'Hara reluctantly allows him to join. The sergeant tries to recruit his close friend, Sergeant Jerry Wooters, but the latter declines his offer out of disillusionment with the recent war and the police force. But when Cohen's attempted hit on rival gang leader Jack Dragna results in the death of a young shoeshine boy, Wooters decides to accept O'Hara's offer to join the squad. Also, Wooters has become romantically involved with Cohen's etiquette coach and girlfriend, Grace Faraday. The squad's campaign of terror against Cohen encounter a good deal of road blocks, including an unsuccessful raid against Cohen's Burbank casino, the gangster's penchant for paranoia, Wooters' secret romance with Grace, Connie O'Hara's desire for her husband to leave the police force and a deadly trap set up by Cohen in Chinatown. Despite the setbacks, violence and death, the squad eventually persevere over Cohen. When I first saw the trailer for "GANGSTER SQUAD", I immediately viewed it as one of those splashy, yet cheesy crime dramas trying to cash in on the success of movies like "L.A. CONFIDENTIAL" and "THE UNTOUCHABLES" by setting it before the present time. After seeing the movie, I suspect that my assumption was correct. There were elements in the movie's story that I found unoriginal. Honestly. One could easily imagine "GANGSTER SQUAD" to be a post-World War II Los Angeles version of the 1987 movie, "THE UNTOUCHABLES". Well . . . almost. And there were moments when I found "GANGSTER SQUAD" rather cheesy. This was obvious in some of the dialogue that came out of the mouth of actor Sean Penn, who portrayed Mickey Cohen; and in the movie's narration spoken by Josh Brolin, who portrayed John O'Hara. And I might as well be honest. Penn's dialogue was not helped by the occasional hammy acting that also marred his performance. For a movie that is supposed to be based on a historical book, I could not regard it as historically correct . . . especially in regard to the fates of both Cohen and rival Jack Dragna. I am a fan of Nick Nolte's work, but I believe that he was a least two to three decades too old to be portraying Los Angeles Police Chief William Parker, who would have been in his mid-40s in 1949. Also, Parker did not become the city's police chief until 1950. "GANGSTER SQUAD" was not a perfect film, but I liked it very much. I enjoyed it. I found it very entertaining. And I found it gorgeous and colorful to look at. Thanks to production designer Maher Ahmad's work, the film beautifully re-created post-World War II Los Angeles at the end of the 1940s. I was especially impressed by Ahmad's elegant, yet colorful designs for the Slapsy Maxie's nightclub, Cohen's Spanish Colonial house and the Chinatown sequence. Ahmad's work was enhanced by Gene Serdena's set decorations, the movie's art direction team and especially Dion Beebe's photography. And Mary Zophres' costume designs were absolutely gorgeous. Just to give you a hint, take a look at one of her designs for actress Emma Stone:
Tumblr media
Even though "GANGSTER SQUAD" seemed to be marred by cheesy dialogue, lack of originality and historical inaccuracy, I cannot deny that Will Beall wrote a very entertaining and exciting crime story. He did a pretty solid job of setting up the main narrative with Sergeant O'Hara's disruption of one of Mickey Cohen's illegitimate businesses - a whorehouse staffed by naive girls fresh off the bus or train and eager to make it big in the movies. This disruption catches Police Chief Bill Parker's attention, prompting him to recruit O'Hara to organize and lead the "Gangster Squad" unit against Cohen's operations. Beall also filled the story with exciting action sequences that included a nail-biting shootout in Chinatown, a forbidden romance between Jerry Wooters and Cohen's girlfriend Grace Faraday, strong characterizations and more importantly, a good solid narrative. Rueben Fleischer did a first-rate job in transferring Beall's script to the movie screen. And Fleischer did this with a great deal of flair and strong pacing. The cast for "GANGSTER SQUAD" proved to be first-rate. Josh Brolin led the cast as the strong-willed, yet emotional police detective Sergeant John O'Hara. Utilizing his talent for projecting a no-nonsense demeanor with flashes of humor, Brolin was very effective as leader of "Gangster Squad" unit. Brolin also managed to generate on-screen chemistry with other members of the cast - including Ryan Gosling, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi and especially actress Mireille Enos, who beautifully portrayed O'Hara's equally strong-willed wife Connie. "GANGSTER SQUAD" marked the second time Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone worked together since they were co-stars in the 2011 comedy "CRAZY STUPID LOVE". And once again, they proved to be quite the effective screen team, as they burned up the screen as the cynical lovers Sergeant Jerry Wooster and mob moll Grace Faraday. I also enjoyed Anthony Mackie's colorful portrayal of tough beat cop Coleman Harris, who developed an aversion to Burbank, following the squad's unpleasant encounter with that city's law enforcement. Giovanni Ribisi gave a poignant performance as the squad's brainy wiretapper, Conwell Keeler. Both Robert Patrick and Michael Peña created a solid screen team as police sharpshooter Max Kennard and his clever protégé Navidad Ramirez. Although I found him slightly too old for the role, I must admit that I found Nick Nolte's portrayal of Police Chief William Parker rather entertaining in a garroulous way. And despite some of the cheesy dialogue he was forced to spew, I must say that Sean Penn struck me as an effective villain in his performance as the violent Mickey Cohen. Especially when the cheese and ham were missing from his lines. If you expect "GANGSTER SQUAD" to be a crime drama masterpiece, you will be disappointed. It is no masterpiece, I assure you. But . . . I thought it proved to be an entertaining, yet splashy crime thriller that recaptured the era of post-World War II Los Angeles. I guess one could thank Will Beall for his solid script, colorful direction by Rueben Fleischer, and an entertaining cast led by Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling and Sean Penn.

Round 10
THE SEA EAGLE
MAKING RUGBY LEAGUE OK AGAIN!!!
Tumblr media
Round 10
Manly Sea Eagles      50
Defeated
Brisbane Broncos      6
In previous years the suggestion to take a Manly home game to Lang Park to take on the Bronco’s would have been frowned upon by the Sea Eagle. As it has always been, home ground advantage can be the difference between a win and a loss and the rub of the green with marginal refereeing decisions have traditionally favoured the home team.
That said, Manly’s recent diabolical record at Graveyard Lottoland (formerly known as Fortress Brookvale) combined with their record at any other alternative playing venue, suggest that any move away from the graveyard can only be a good thing and in this Round 10 magic round fixture this was again further proof positive.
Manly set the tone early in this game and from the opening bell dominated a Bronco’s outfit that is a far cry from the halcyon days when the likes of Langer, Lockyer, Webckie, Tallis etc. (and then coach Bennett) generally ran roughshod over whoever had the misfortune to venue onto Lang Park.
Despite having all the play in the early stanza, Manly could not crack the initial spirited Bronco defence. Finally, after 15 minutes the Bronco’s cracked when speedster Jason Saab found clear space to put none other than Tommy Turbo in under the posts. The Turbo-Saab combination is providing to be a potent attacking weapon with the speed of these two proving very hard for opposing teams to deal with on the right edge. They say speed kills and its hard to argue with this when either of these to have ball in hand with clear space.
Manly then suffered a set back when returning (to the nest) playmaker Kieran Foran was forced from the field with what was suggested to be a broken hand. This injury continues the wretched run of injuries to Foran since initially leaving Manly in 2012 and casts fresh doubt as to whether they do indeed go any better when they return to the nest. The jury is still out on that one.
In Foran’s absence it was Marty Tapou who surprisingly (and accidently) took the role of provider, when a he supplied a deft offload to improving backrower, Sean Keppie to cross untouched. Sean Keppie’s fine form continued in this game and his emergence along with the likes of Tof Sipley, Tan Paseka, Haumole Olakau’atu and of course Josh Schuster provide Manly with much needed backrow depth. This has been something that has been sorely missed in recent years, and now gives Manly a platform to become a contender again hopefully sooner rather than later.
Tumblr media
Prior to this year Manly have relied on journeyman back rowers, the ilk of Joel Thompson, Curtis Sironen, Jack Gosiewski etc. and with respect while these guys never shirked the task at hand, premiership success was never a realistic prospect with them leading the way.
Manly extended their lead when some fine lead up work by the usual suspects (Cherry Baby and Turbo) put Saab over in the corner, a try duly converted by the accurate Rueben Garrick. It was noted in a previous report that Young Garrick’s goal kicking has improved markedly in recent weeks, a phenomenon which may also be linked to the Tommy Turbo effect?
Tumblr media
Against the run of play the Bronco’s hit back on the stroke of half time when Jermaine Osako forced past some pretty average defence, reducing Manly’s lead to 20-6 at the break.
Any chance of a Bronco comeback was quickly extinguished when a high-flying Jason Saab leapt over the pack to reclaim a bomb and plant a four pointer (also converted by Garrick). Not only is Saab blindingly quick but at well over 190 cm is deadly under the high ball, something Manly are now able to exploit.
From then on it was a deadest rout as Manly ran roughshod over the hapless Broncos. In saying that Manly were the beneficiaries of a couple of pretty soft sin-bins which at one point resulted in the Bronco’s fielding only 11 players. Notwithstanding this could not hide how bad the Bronco’s have become and tries to Jake Trbojovic, Lachlan Croker, Tommy Turbo (again), and Josh Schuster (all converted) saw Manly run out 50-6 winners, their largest winning margin against the once mighty Brisbane based outfit. In fact, the score line could have been much worse as Manly had at least 3 tries disallowed (rightly) when unable to ground the ball in goal when tries looked certain.
Manly had plenty of good performers in this one, in fact all contributed in some way to the victory. That said the Sea Eagle would like to single out Morgan Harper for special mention. In the absence of Dylan Walker (which the Sea Eagle hopes will be extended – personal opinion only) Young Harper has made a home for himself in the centres. Not only is he mistake free, defensively solid but he has a striking resemblance to a younger version of this man -----
Tumblr media
The last month has shown that Manly can rightfully claim to be a Top 8 side, but next week we will get a true gauge of the extent of the Manly improvement and where they rank when they travel to Bankwest to take on the despised Eels.
 It’s Just Not Netball
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-05-14/ricky-stuart-apologises-over-netball-comment/100139934
Tumblr media
This one did not escape the Sea Eagle’s eagle eye as Raider’s coach Ricky “Sticky” Stuart has found himself in hot water again. It seems Coach Stuart regularly finds himself on the wrong side of poorly thought-out comments, usually aimed at referees and usually when his team is getting beaten. And this time, perhaps to deflect attention from his coaching deficiencies (personal opinion) Stuart has taken aim at netball.
One particular quote from the article to the effect of "That frustrates you as a coach, because you get annoyed when you're not winning”.
Based on Coach Stuart’s coaching record he must be a very frustrated man indeed.
Tumblr media
Apart from his debut year as coach at the Roosters when he inherited the usual salary cap rorting array of stars and won the GF, it’s been all down hill for Coach Stuart ever since. Teams he has coached featuring towards the bottom end of the ladder, 2006-14th, 2007- 12th, 2009 – 15th, 2010 – 14th, 2013 – Spoon, 2014 – 15th and this spiral looks to be continuing this year with the Raiders struggling and persistent rumours of discontent between the playing group and coach.
Perhaps it’s now time for Coach Stuart to do us all a favour, abandon the NRL and pursue another challenge…… Netball!!
At this juncture it may also be worth revisiting a few of the old Sea Eagle Reports - for those interested, check these.

If you still need a punchee's name, may I submit "Brandon"? He was an asshole I had the misfortune to work with for a while and harassed like half the girls in the store. Also your music taste is A++ and I love your song recs.
Tumblr media
(also @ first anon thank you ur very sweet!!)
I haven’t picked a name for this extremely punchable bit character yet so lemme get the list together and compile the suggestions
also some of the people y’all have described (for those of u who gave reasons for your choices.........) they sound like TERRIBLE folk and your anger towards them is extremely justified
so in addition to these three the votes were like so
jai
stephen
dominic
dash
augustus
michael
jamie
warren
john
austin
josh (x 2)
max
david (x2)
daniel
mike
cade
tristan
rueben
eugene
obviously not all of these people can be punched and that is unfortunate, but I will probably end up using a few of these names as faces who are bros with the one who gets punched, y’know, these r dudes that hang out together, these are some bro types but not in a nice way
dominic and augustus and eugene and rueben (reuben? rueben? ruben? I’ve seen this spelled like five different ways) all have exactly the same vibe and I like them, I think one of these will be the main punchee
I reckon rueben and or reuben is a good choice
sorry if your name is reuben I’m not saying you have an inherently punchable name or that you yourself are punchable, I just examined the list and was like “ooh, nice, yeah that works”
josh and david both got two votes each so they can be included also
brandon sounds like a dick as well though so his name is on thin fuckin ice and may be included as collateral damage
