The Glass Castle
Tumblr media
Movies watched in 2023
The Glass Castle (2017, USA)
Director: Destin Daniel Cretton
Writers: Destin Daniel Cretton & Andrew Lanham
Mini-review:
I don't really know how to feel about this movie, to be honest. On the one hand, the whole cast does a phenomenal job, both adults and children. The film is also very handsomely made. However, I felt like it struggled when it came to choosing a tone. It wants to be a somewhat schmaltzy tale about overcoming obstacles and finding your place in the world, but it also wants to be a gritty story about a woman who went through a really harsh childhood. I'm sure these two elements can be properly mixed, but I just don't think The Glass Castle succeeds as often as it should. By the time the movie was over, I wasn't entirely sure about what the movie wanted me to think about its characters. One thing it did achieve is making me interested in the original memoir, cause it's clear this a fascinating story that got kind of lost in translation during the adaptation process. Also, if anyone wants to watch this movie, you should probably check the content warnings first. There are several triggering scenes and situations.

The level at which Drew Barrymore is fucking up is INSANE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image ID: a pair of tweets from from Claire Willett (@clairwillett) from September 11th, 2023 that read:
I know Twitter is not a universal barometer but boy if I was Drew Barrymore’s PR folks I would be gravely concerned about the number of well-known actors on here basically saying “WE WILL NOT BE FORGETTING THIS”
they’ll be skipping your couch on the next press junket, ma’am
unclear if this is a bad-faith question or not but I’ll say that just within the last hour in my own twitter feed I have seen
Joshua Malina
Bradley Whitford
Evan Handler
Anson Mount
Lisa Ann Walter
Roxane Gay
/End ID]
The link in the tweet leads you to the tweet below.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: Lisa Ann Walter QT'd (on September 11th, 2023) a tweet of hers from April 17th, 2023 that reads:
Hang out with me & my new sister @DrewBarrymore Tmw!
On @DrewBarrymoreTV
I love her.
And you can tell by my enthusiastic oversharing.
Featuring - the gross recipe me and my High School BFF slapped together.
The tweet includes three tweets with the two of them from Barrymore's show.
The QT reads:
Don’t know why this is going around again-but please note the date: Before both strikes.
I’m a unionist.
I’m proudly re-elected to #SagAftra National & LA Local board. I’m on the NegComm. I chair LA women’s committee and am on WAY too many others. I’m also WGA.
I Don’t X lines
/End ID]
Other tweets that she was talking about:
Tumblr media
[Image ID: a tweet from Bradley Whitford on September 11th, 2023 that is a QT of Variety tweeting this article about Drew Barrymore owning the decision to come back and claiming she's not violating strike rules (yes she is because hers is a WGA contracted production). It reads:
Oh, you own it. For sure, @DrewBarrymore. And we’ll never forget it.
/End ID.]
I'm sorry, my anxiety is going up a bit with all of the messiness this post, so I'm not going to do the IDs anymore, and my phone is being mean. But here are others, starting with Evan Handler:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anson Mount:
Tumblr media
Before that he also retweeted Bradley Whitford's tweet, but I'm running out of room.
Roxane Gay:
Tumblr media
And there was another one where she rt'd someone basically backhandedly slamming Drew Barrymore for being the host of this year's National Book Awards.
And then, saving the best for last, Joshua Malina has been going scorched earth on Barrymore and reminding people The View is also scabbing. Honestly love seeing it and highly recommend him as someone to follow. A lot of retweets of others as well as original tweets:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's talking about a hat with the thing that let's custom text scroll. What the person he QT'd is referring to is his hat saying "Drew Barrymore is a Scab".
He actually started hounding her on Sunday, after it was announced very late in the day that she was coming back on Monday.
Tumblr media
I love Josh Malina.
Fuck Drew Barrymore.
Also, fuck every celebrity who crosses the picket lines. (This includes Oprah (who also hasn't donated any or her billions to Maui and instead asked others to donate even though she also has a home there which she got through shady deals and wouldn't let anyone use it as a shelter in an emergency) and Brook Shield's who went today.)
(Also fuck other celebs who liked Drew's post about coming back including Lily Collins, Cara Delevingne, Jennifer Aniston, Kristen Bell, and Jennifer Garner and I'm honestly not surprised by the four of those, don't know enough about the first one.)

🔍👣One step behind👣🔎
Zach Chen has gone missing while pip is at collage, and no one knows how to find him as well as she would've. Upon that, pip isn't answering anyone when they try to contact her. So who's better to take on the case than her 11 year old little brother, Josh Amobi?
✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦
It started with Ravi. Even after the breakup, Ravi and Josh remained close. Josh would've been heartbroken if he lost Pip and Ravi both; his two role models.
Ravi had come over to play video games, but something was off. Well, something bad been off for almost a year; ever since Pip went off to college and they'd broken up. But something different was off. Maybe 30 minutes into them playing, Josh had won everytime, which only ever happened when Ravi was too distracted to try.
"You're acting weird," Josh said, turning his gaze from the TV screen to Ravi.
"I am? Didn't notice. Guess I'm just tired," Ravi replied keeping his eyes on the screen, pressing the 'New Game?' button.
Josh hated that response. He was doing exactly what Pip used to do! He was 'too young' to hear about their worries, and they didn't want to make him worry. So what if he was still a kid, he deserved to know stuff, right?
"Liar," Josh mumbled, looking back at the TV as the next round started. Ravi pretended not to hear him, but Josh knew he heard.
Tumblr media
Dinner was quieter without Pip. Maybe it was because Pip always kept the conversations going, maybe things just weren't the same without her, so no one saw a need to talk. A need to pretend it was the same. At least they kept the TV on for background noise, without it Josh would go insane.
Zach Chen was fairly popular around fairveiw; all of Pips friends were, since they had been mentioned in her podcast; AGGGTM.
Josh wasn't supposed to listen to her podcast. Pip had told him not to, but without his sister there, who was gonna tell him no? So with a pair of Pips old earbuds and his worn out computer, Josh listened to every episode until he could recite the entire podcast by heart.
Everyone kept their eyes on their food while the news played from the TV in the living room. Josh wasn't paying much attention until he heard Pips name.
"The friend of our local celebrity, Pippa Fitz-Amobi, Zach Chen has gone missing. We would like anyone who knows about where he could be, or has any information about the situation, to step forward."
Josh had run into the living room the moment he heard Pips name. "Oh. Well that's what Ravi was worrying about, then," Josh thought. He heard some faint, 'oh, that's horrible.' comments from his parents, but it was hard to hear through the ringing in his ears.
It was a impulsive and stupid idea, but that's all that Pips ideas started out as, right?
'I can prove that he's innocent."
'It'll help Connor.'
'Just one more, then It'll all be fixed.'
Josh could make Pip proud. He could be just like his sister; his hero. He could find Zach.
And it started by trying to figure out how to fine the name of Pips printer, (and trying to figure out how to use it,) becuase hes only 11 and why would he know how to use a printer?
Tumblr media
After about an eternity of googling things and waiting for his parents to fall asleep, Josh snuck into Pips room, which didn't even feel like a real place with her gone, and immediately walked over to her printer. He had his own laptop tucked under his arm. Josh opened his laptop and set it on the desk next to the printer. He opened photoshop and pulled out a folded up piece of paper; Jamie Reynolds' missing poster.
It took at least 2 hours, but he worked and almost exactly replicated Jamie's old poster. Josh made up a fake email, [email protected], and put it in the contact information. Printed out a couple, praying that the screaming poster wouldn't wake up his parents, and then snuck back to his room.
The next day, Josh convinced his parents to let him walk to school. He stuffed the papers and some tape in his bag right before he left. Every couple poles and light posts that he walked past, if no one was looking and no cameras were in view, he hung up a poster.
(HIHIHI COMMENT IF U WANT MORE TO THIS CAUSE I DONT WANNA WRITE TOO MUCH IN ONE POST!! IF UR READING THIS ILY!! ALSO I MADE THE EMAIL JOSH IS USING A REAL EMAIL IF U WANNA HAVE EMAILING IT AS IF ITS REALLY JOSH/PIP!!!)

home (the long way round)
ao3 fanfic fundraiser
She gets the first train she can.
She’ll miss two lectures and a seminar and ticket prices are a nightmare and the train station is cramped and there’s a stitch in her side from running and it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter because soon she moving, the world outside the window is a blur, and old stone towers and high street shops give way to green fields and doll-sized houses and then finally, finally, her town is called over the loudspeakers.
Two words, four syllables, the surest way to her heart.
‘Little Kilton’
When the train stops a kind old man asks her if she’s alright. Her heart seizes for a moment, panic gripping her, and then she realises it’s just because she’s crying.
‘Running’ isn’t the right word to describe how she moves. Nor is sprinting. Pip is tearing through the town’s streets like a storm, Hurricane Pip, pavement melting beneath her trainers. Every step is a blessing and she thanks it a hundred times over, thank you for letting me come back, she says. Gravel crunches beneath her feet, she stumbles on uneven  kerbs. ‘I missed you’ she says to them. ‘I missed you I missed you I missed you.’
She never wondered where she would go first. During those long, lonely months at Cambridge, Pip worried she would forget how to get there, but now, she feels the route deep in her bones, no, her heart, pointed like a compass and guiding her back to that precious, perfect, maddening house. Mum’s car is in the drive-the same car she drove Pip to school and drama club and dentist appointments in. Pip stops by the car, just for a second, puts her hand against the passenger door. Her handprint rests against the paint and where once that would’ve terrified her, she now sobs, because her hand is on her mum’s car. She holds it out in front of her, inspects it in the afternoon light. Steady. Bloodless.
“Pip?”
Her heart stops at her name, head snaps up. She blinks once, twice, pinches herself to make sure it’s real and yes-that’s her mum standing on the doorstep, a bulging rubbish bag in her hand to match her bulging eyes. Her mouth hangs open, and she blinks just as Pip did because maybe she can’t believe that her daughter, who had become a ghost, is now here in the flesh, beside her car.
“Pip?”
“Mum!” The cry erupts from her throat, so loud and so elated that a flock of birds flee a nearby tree. Pip moves again, tearing across the drive and then she’s crushing her arms around her mum and they’re falling, falling, and the floor catches them. As her mum’s arms come around her-startled and confused but so, so warm-Pip’s head finds her shoulder and she bites back tears because she will not ruin her mum’s blouse.
(Too late)
“Mum!” she cries again. “I missed you so much!”
“I…” Mum begins. She stiffens, involuntarily, and then relaxes. “I missed you too, darling.”
Pip can feel it in her hands-the almost two years of Pip pulling away from them, the missed calls and blunt texts, a brief appearance at Josh’s birthday before she ran away again, noncommittal shrugs when asked when she’d be back. It was to keep them all safe, and it broke their hearts.
She’ll explain. Not really, but she’ll do what she does best; create, fabricate, lie. Build an alibi. She’ll make it better.
“What on Earth is going on out here?” Pip’s heart skips a beat, fresh air fills her lungs.
“Dad!”
Pip releases her mum, her arms are empty for the briefest of moments, and then they’re around her Dad’s shoulders, she’s breathing in his aftershave. In her run over to him, she saw the faint grey hair at his temples, and another sob wrecks through her. She lost so much time with them. She’s here to earn it all back, but she still lost so much.
“Well,” her dad ways in her ear, the same light and jovial tone that helped Pip sleep, listening to his voice messages alone in her room. “This is a surprise, pickle.”
Pickle. She laughs against his shoulder and wants him to say it again, a hundred times more, a million, until it’s the only word she knows. She wants to stay this way forever, wrapped up in her parents’ embrace, and then the stairs creak and-
“Josh!” Detangling herself from her dad she rushes over and tackles Josh to the floor. He’s tall now-as tall as her-and it makes her want to scream and cry and hold him until her arms go numb. There’s a tremor in Josh’s voice when he says her name, in his hands when they wrap around her. Her Josh, her brother, thought she didn’t care about him, when she loves him more than anything in this world.
“How come you’re crying, Pippo?” he asks her. She chokes then, a half-laugh, half-sob.
“I could ask you the same,” comes her reply.
She finds the Ward sisters next. Cara answers the door before she even knocks, her eyes wide. For a few seconds they’re silent, just looking at each other; no words are fit for such an occasion. Then Pip jumps on her and hugs her and Cara is murmuring her name, muffled against her jumper. They must look a sight; sunk to their knees in Cara’s doorway, but why would they care?
Eventually, they move to Cara’s room. Naomi finds them, a delighted scream emerges from her throat and the three of them cram onto Cara’s bed. They talk for hours and hours, about university and Cara’s girlfriend and the cafe and new albums and new tv shows. They talk, they laugh, Naomi fishes ice cream out of the freezer. Pip’s face is red and her stomach hurts and she feels like-no, she is-the luckiest girl in the world.
She runs into Nat and Jamie in the cafe. There’s no need for words, not with them. The pull one another into a haphazard hug, Jamie claps her on the shoulder, and Nat orders coffee.
They argue for twenty minutes about who’s paying, then Connor appears, rolls his eyes and swipes his card. There’s a tear in them too.
Andie is first; Pip rests a little pink bouquet against her headstone. Pip’s breath catches in her throat. It’s quieter out here; no screams, no sobs, no barrelling into her loved ones’ arms. It’s just her and Andie; two girls who couldn’t have been more different until they couldn’t have been more similar. Good girls, bad choices, some would say. Bad girls, good reasons, others might say. Turns out they live somewhere in between.
“You were okay. In the end,” Pip tells her. “And Becca will be okay. I promise.” Pip toes the ground, her hands stuffed in her pocket. The scene is somber as can be, yet there’s a small smile cutting across Pip’s face. “I hope you don’t see your dad ever again. But if you do… give him hell, Andie Bell.”
The wind picks up, dances through her hair. And somehow, Pip feels Andie will oblige.
Sal is next. Salil Singh, who loved the wrong girl at the wrong place at the wrong time. A heavy melancholy settles over Pip as she squats beside his grave, her chest constricting as she reads it. He gets a bouquet too, little white roses, as well as a postcard from the Cambridge gift shop. It’s a picture of the library, in all of its splendour. Perhaps in another life, he shows her around it, final year and first year. He would have loved it there.
“You deserved better,” she tells Sal. It’s the single truest thing about this whole web. Sal was killed and made into a killer, everything good about him scrubbed away like chalk. Justice was served but it will never really be made right.
Pip rests her fingers against the headstone. It’s cool beneath her skin.
“Rest in peace, Sal Singh,” she whispers. Then, in an even smaller voice, “Thanks for looking after Ravi for me.”
Wind rustles her hair again, gentler this time, and Pip gives a teary smile.
And now she’s here. Once again, she is standing at the Singh’s front door, with a Tupperwere box in her hand. What can she say; she was raised right. There are lines she will cross in a heartbeat, but she will not show up at her boyfriend’s house empty-handed.
Nisha answers the door, her eyes lighting up at the sight of her. Pip is welcomed in as if it’s her own house. Ravi is at work so she chats with his parents. She never found out what Ravi told them, but from the way Mohan  pats her shoulder and Nisha gives her tea, Pip wonders if he said anything. If Pip Fitz-Amobi stayed in this house, put here by white lies and steadfast hope.
“Why don’t you go wait in his room, love?” Mohan asks. “It’ll give him a nice surprise. He misses you something awful when he comes back from Cambridge.”
Ah. So that’s what he told them. Well played, Singh.
His mum directs her to his room and Pip waits, surrounded by bits and pieces of her Ravi. Once the door is closed, she looks through all of them, greedy for details. She studies the photos on his wall, eyes moving to his eyes to his hair to his jaw. She thumbs through his books, runs her fingers across crease marks, tenderly strokes the Post-It reminders stuck to his desk. She will uncover every detail, nothing is too unimportant. She studies him like a scholar would a classic novel.
(Or… perhaps… like a detective studies a case)
The handle turns when she’s looking through his wardrobe, hoodie sleeves brushing her head. Pip jumps out of it, gasp stuck in her throat. Her heart beats, beats, beats, drags each second out to an hour. As the door opens, Pip feels the hair on the back of her neck rise, feels an electric tingle in her fingers because-
He’s here. Ravi Singh is here, standing in his bedroom, the afternoon sun casting a gold halo around him. He’s here, just as lovely as the day she left, lovelier. Taller, maybe. Hair is longer, matching the photos.
For one long, terrifying second, he doesn’t say anything. Pip felt sure then, surer than ever, that this was a dream, and she was about to wake up in Cambridge. Day 698.
“Sarge,” Ravi breathes. His eyes glimmer then, and Pip sees the tears running down his face. “Hi.”
Ravi takes one tentative step, then another. Then he’s the one crushing her. He pulls her so close, like he can bond the two of them together, and he is crying, and she is crying, and she feels like she’s flying until she realises Ravi has picked her up. Her trainers dangle above the carpet, her fingers curl into his hair.
He’s sobbing, tears rocking his shoulders and wrecking his chest. Pip hushes him softly, gentle whispers of ‘it’s okay, it’s okay’. He whispers back, “I missed you, you’re here, I missed you”, so broken and so hurt that Pip hates herself for doing this to him. She did it to save him and it nearly killed them both.
“I’m sorry,” she tells him. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.”
“Just kiss me, Sarge,” he asks. His eyes are bright, his lashes spoked, his cheeks flushed. She holds them in her hands, feels the warmth seep into her skin. His breath, hot on her cheek. “Just kiss me. Please.”
How can she say no?

🔍👣One step behind (pt. 2!)👣🔎
see part 1 here!
The first couple emails were just fakes. People thinking it was put up by pip, people putting fake info, people saying stuff like, "I took him", ect.
Until there was a real one.
It seemed to be in a kind of code? From an email called [email protected].
"six legs, two eyes, blacker than the night. i wont bite unless i need to. Im drawn to sugar. What am i?"
This seemed too random to be fake. Maybe they're getting more creative, but Josh wasn't going to delete this one yet.
Josh wished that he could just call pip and ask. But she wouldn't answer. He knew that. So, he did the next best thing.
"Hey Cara?" Josh said into the phone.
"Josh? Hey, what's up?"
"You wouldn't be mad if I.."
"You put up those missing posters, didn't you?"
okay. "Uhm.. yes. There was this email I got, and I need your help figuring it out."
"Whatever it is, it's probably fake."
"Just look at it!" Josh sent a screenshot of the email, and Cara went quiet for a while.
"It sounds like it's describing an ant."

𝓻𝓮𝓶𝓮𝓶𝓫𝓮𝓻 𝓶𝓮?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
genre: fluff with a hint of angst word count: 633 pairing: pip x ravi (a good girl's to murder) setting: set after the events of as good as dead tw: none as of now (please lmk if there is one) just spoilers if you haven't read as good as dead
The verdict was read. Max Hastings was found guilty.
Ravi Singh was on autopilot. His hands rummaged through his pockets, desperately searching for his phone. He pulled it out, scrolling through the contacts lists until he reached the one named 'sarge<3'. He paused, his fingers ghosting over the keypad. Does she miss me? Would she remember me? Self doubt consumed him, but the longing for Pip won. He messaged her.
He waited
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pip's phone lit up; the text she awaited the most had finally arrived. The contact named 'ravishing<3' had messaged her. Finally. She clicked on the notification, the hollow pit in her heart was filled for a second, when she saw the message.
Pip took the first taxi home, making a mental list of all the people she had to apologize; all the people she had left. The drive wasn't long; only 2 hours long, but to her it felt like a eternity. She decided to practice the apology she would say, but no apology was perfect. The anxiety was eating her up, but as soon as the she heard the driver say that they had reached, all was forgotten.
Pip stood in front of her family's home. Not hers; she had ghosted them, she had left. She wondered if they would still welcome her; whether her dad remembered his 'pickle'. How her mom was, how tall had Josh grown? She swallowed all her feelings and pressed the doorbell.
She waited
Tumblr media
Her dad opened the door; eyes widening and mouth agape, clutching the door handle tightly. He stood there frozen; not even making a sound. Pip tried for a 'Hey dad' but her own voice was gone. Just then, Josh came running; pushing her dad aside.
"MUM, PIP IS HERE!", he screamed and he hugged her, breaking Pip and their dad out of their trance. Josh's face was buried in her chest; he had grown taller. Her dad reached out and kissed her forehead mumbling about his pickle coming back home. Her mum came into view, and broke down into tears; her knees giving out. Pip kneeled down and hugged her; her mum's tears soaking her top.
Tumblr media
Pip took a deep breath, and pushed the café's door open, the bells jingling overhead. As soon as she inhaled the smell of coffee and all the sweet memories, she was engulfed in a embrace. Nat DaSilva, she recognized and hugged her back. She hugged Jamie and Connor and went to the counter of the café.
"Can I get a best friend- no, sister with some extra sweetness and craziness on the go, please", she said in a stoic tone. Cara recognized her voice and turned to face her, her eyes wide.
"PIP?!", she whisper-shouted, not believing her eyes. Pip grinned and nodded, and Cara stepped forward.
She punched her.
She hugged her.
They both sobbed, holding each other close.
Tumblr media
Ravi was still waiting for a text from her. His afternoon was supposed to be free, and he could march over to Cambridge to see her. But something in his heart told him to stop.
The doorbell rang. Ravi wondered who was ringing the bell, since there was nobody to be visting; no package to be delivered. He opened the door.
Tumblr media
Pip's heart did somersaults when she saw him. Ravi's mouth was agape. She tried for a greeting.
"Hi?!", she muttered timidly, her voice barely reaching her own self.
Ravi took one long stride, and hugged her; firm and tight, which lifted her off her feet. He pulled away, and Pip closed the gap this time; placing her lips softly on his. The hollow pit in her heart was filled; all she felt was pure bliss.
She pulled away, resting her forehead on top of his. He flashed her his signature smile, the one that she adored.
"Hey Ravi, remember me?"

PipRavi headcanons because they’ve taken over my brain
Ravi’s instagram account is filled with pictures he is taken of Pip. Pip loves taking pictures of Ravi but she loves to keep them for herself.
Some of Pip's fans are totally supportive of pipravi. I’d like to believe some even have fanpages dedicated to the couple!
Ravi treats Josh the way Sal used to treat him and he always hopes that Sal is proud of him for becoming almost as good of an older brother as Sal was.
Ravi cries when he sees Pip walk down the aisle at their wedding and you can’t tell me otherwise!
Cara was the first person to know that Pip is in love with Ravi and she used to tease her a lot before Pip and Ravi started going out.
Cara would say things like “Oh you’re dressed up today! Let me guess you’re going to meet Ravi today?” with a wide grin and Pip would reply with a “shut up” and a blush.
Pip loves sleeping on Ravi’s chest. She says the sound of his heartbeats gives her peace.
Ravi teases Pip about her feelings for him as if he isn’t head over heels for her too. *rolls up my eyes*
I’m a “Ravi fell first, Pip fell harder” truther.
Ravi is definitely a swiftie! His favorite album is Lover because he’s a big softie!
His favorite song from the album is probably “Daylight”.
On the mention of music, Ravi definitely makes Pip a playlist of songs that reminds him of her and she definitely listens to it daily. Especially when she’s away at college iykyk (If you want me to make the playlist let me know).
Ravi “sunshine” bf and Pip “midnight rain” gf (referring to the song “Midnight Rain” by Taylor Swift).
Ravi loves braiding Pip’s hair and whenever Pip sleeps over at his house or vice versa, she let’s him braid her hair before going to bed and she finds comfort in it.
Pip always wakes up on Ravi’s side of the bed and Ravi constantly teases her for it.
“I know I’m very hot, but do try to keep your hands to yourself, Pippa.”
Ravi’s love languages are “Act of Service” and “Physical Touch”.
Pip’s love languages are “Physical Touch” and “Quality Time”.
Ravi loves making edits of Pip (this is me projecting myself onto Ravi because I love making edits of my friends and even myself you know romanticize the life and all).
Pip finds Ravi even more attractive when he’s wearing his glasses and she’s often caught staring and teased for it whether it’s by their friends or by Ravi himself.
Pip’s friends all became quickly fond of Ravi when they started dating and they all started joking about how they prefer him over Pip especially Cara (which made Pip dramatically declare her as a traitor).
Ravi would still tease Pip about the “jiffy” thing even after years.
Ravi would be like “I swear I put my keychain here a jiffy ago.” and Pip would be like “You’re never gonna let this go, will ya?”
Pip sometimes calls him ravishing and they both burst into laughter.
“You look exceptionally ravishing tonight, my love.”
Pip is definitely the type to steal his hoodies and wear them when she sleeps.
