i'm thinking of doing a zine-april thing, like zinetober but in april, because i've not got a month that's super busy coming up, and i think it'll be a cool challenge.

i want to ask you for tips on like. how to keep it up? how do you make so many zines for a period?

things i am considering are lowering my standards and pre-folding zines

well those are two things I was gonna say! big emphasis on lowering your standards, the perfectionism is what gets you!! if you have to spend more than a couple minutes to fix it, just let it be. it really helps to keep in mind that you don't have to like each outcome. as long as you've got something, you're good. literally how i stayed sane during zinetober.

and try not to skip days if you can help it. it's like building a habit. obviously take breaks if you need, don't stress yourself out - i'm specifically talking about the days when you're like "Idk if I'm bothered :/", you just gotta ignore it and make one. in my experience, as soon as i let one day go, that's when starts going downhill.. it can be super duper simple, just keep that momentum

this is probs more down to preference, but i think the size of the zine makes a difference too. a standard sized zine everyday was quite daunting bc of all the space to fill, which was why i mostly made minis. maybe that's something to consider?

anyway... i've spent a couple hours this afternoon starting my quest to document every goal 1634 have factored in on together here if anyone is curious.

a few fun facts:

they played basically never together at 5v5 in 16-17 (and 17-18 and from what i can tell so far basically 18-19 too)

mitch and auston's first goal they ever recorded a point on together was a late line change that got mitch a secondary assist on a patty marleau goal :')

babcock must have REALLY hated the idea of them together bc even though they scored 2 goals together to end a game in november 2017, they never really were put on a consistent line or allowed to be on the same pp unit... the sheer low amount of minutes they played together feels like an actual concerted effort tbh

they factored into 0 goals together in the 2016-2017 season

they factored into 4 goals together in the 2017-2018 season

now i'm working on the 2018-2019 season but if they surpassed the sittler/mcdonald record of 209 just this past week... they have been working OVERTIMEEE for years... auston on pace to keep setting records as a maple leaf goal scorer... it's funny to think he and mitch wanted to play together so much when they were rookie besties and now auston's got his own personal assist maker.

mitch has assisted over half his goals this year which really just begs the question of what they could have done together back then if they got to play together really ever those first 2-3 years. 1634 supremacy as always.... statistically and at heart <3

This is one of the only terracotta warriors that was found almost completely intact.

Note the detail on the bottom of his shoe, showing that grip and traction were considered in footwear even 2,200 years ago.

Each life-sized clay warrior was crafted to be completely unique and there are no two terracotta warriors-among the 8,000 total—that are exactly the same.

Shortly after the completion of the tomb in 210-209 BC, it was looted for weapons and burned, causing the roof to collapse, crushing the terracotta warriors.

All the other terracotta warriors that are currently on display were painstakingly restored.

What's even more remarkable is that the terracotta warriors were originally painted in bright colors by skilled artisans.

Unfortunately, when they were exposed to air and sunlight during the excavation in the 1970s, the colors began to curl up almost immediately and disappeared within minutes.

These terracotta warriors were put in place to guard the tomb of the first emperor of unified China — Qin Shi Huang (18 February 259 BC – 12 July 210 BC).

To this day, the tomb has yet to be opened.

According to ancient historians, the tomb contains an entire kingdom and palace in which the ceilings are decorated with pearls to mimic the night sky.

The tomb is also said to contain extremely rare artifacts and has been rigged with crossbows to shoot anyone trying to break in.

To keep its location a secret, the workers were entombed with the emperor.

As described by Han dynasty historian Sima Qian (145-90 BCE) in the Records of the Grand Historian, he mentioned that inside the tomb, "mercury was used to fashion the hundred rivers, the Yellow River and the Yangtze River, and the seas in such a way that they flowed."

Modern tests have indicated extremely high levels of mercury in the surrounding soil.

Statue of King Horemheb and the God Amun

Horemheb stands beside the god Amun, who is taller to indicate that he is more important than the king himself.

The style of the statue is typical of the period immediately following the religious and artistic revolution of king Akhenaten. The muscles are not emphasized, the contours are soft, the belly and hips rounded, the faces juvenile, the eyes almond-shaped, the cheeks and lips full and sensual.

Some scholars believe that this was a statue of Tutankhamun later usurped by Horemheb. However, distinguishing between the faces of these two kings is especially difficult, and the inscription does not show any trace of erasure and rewriting.

jay curses to himself as he wanders into the kitchen to find a disaster of a kitchen. plates are piled up so high they’re almost overflowing in the sink. you pause, watching as he contemplates where to begin before you call to catch his attention.

“need some help?” you smile.

“y/n-sunbaenim,” he jumps. jay glances at the plates once again before he sheepishly nods. “if you don’t mind.”

you stifle a chuckle at the blush spreading across his face. jay’s hand brushing against yours sends an embarrassing amount of shivers down your spine when he hands a plate out for you to clean.

your shoulders occasionally brush against each other as you work side by side to clean the various dishes. “how did you all let it get this bad in the first place?”

“i guess it’s hard to convince a group of teenage boys to clean.”

“speak for yourself,” you tease. jay’s laughter brings a soft smile to your face as you finally set the last bowl aside to dry.

“thanks for the help,” jay smiles. “i really appreciate it.”

“no problem.”

“can i make it up to you sometime? like… maybe over dinner?”

you softly smile as you nod. “i’d like that a lot.”

various people surround you on all sides as you continue carefully pulling stray pieces of confetti out of your hair. you watch as the small pieces of plastic fall unceremoniously to the ground.

“y/n-sunbaenim?” a sudden voice from beside you catches your attention. you startle slightly as you turn around, softly smiling at the boy now standing before you.

“jake.” you softly chuckle at the way his face lights up at the mention of his name. “it’s so nice to meet you! i’m a big fan. your songwriting in shout out was incredible and your vocals are amazing!”

“really?” he gasps. “that means a lot to me. i’ve looked up to you for years. thank you, sunbaenim.”

“please, hyung is fine,” you chuckle, waving off his overly formal demeanor. “i’ve actually been meaning to ask for your contact information for a while now. i’d love to work together on something sometime.”

“yeah, of course!” jake says as he grabs his phone from his pocket. he hands it to you with a nervous smile, watching as you input your number before handing his phone back to him. “it was lovely to meet you. maybe we can meet up sometime?”

jake blushes slightly but eagerly nods. “i’d like that.”

⋆｡°✩ sunghoon

you smile as sunghoon momentarily breaks away from the group, slipping away from them momentarily to join you near the corner. you pull him into a quick hug as a form of greeting, unintentionally making a deep blush spread across the boy’s cheeks. “congratulations,” you murmur.

“thank you, hyung,” sunghoon bashfully smiles. his cheeks remain flushed as you step back, brushing a stray strand of hair out of his eyes and back into place.

“so, how does it feel to be an official idol?” you tease, gently brushing your shoulder against his.

“shut up,” sunghoon chuckles, playfully rolling his eyes.

you fondly smile at him, brushing a hand against his cheek to tilt his face up so he’s looking at you. “can i take you out sometime? like… on a date?”

sunghoon’s blush deepens even more. “are you sure? you’re an idol - my idol. i- what if i mess this up?”

“hoon,” you whisper. “i like you. nothing else matters to me.”

he pauses, looking into your eyes for a few seconds, almost like he’s searching for any hints of doubt. finally, he leans in to press a chaste kiss against your cheek. “i like you too. and i’d love to go out with you.”

“kim sunoo,” the mc announces.

you can’t help the way your lips quirk into a large smile at the confirmation of sunoo’s debut. his jaw drops open and his eyes widen as he’s quickly pulled into hugs by various of the other contestants. they reach up to ruffle his hair and pat his back.

you adjust the mic in front of you as the chaos calms down enough for you to speak. “i want to start by saying congratulations to every one of you. you’ve all worked incredibly hard to get here and for that, you all deserve high praise.”

you pause as small ripples of applause pass through the group, making you chuckle. “i’ve grown close to all of you, but there is one person i want to call out in particular. sunoo, it’s been an honor to watch you and your confidence grow. i can’t wait to see what you'll accomplish in the future. you’re a great idol, sunoo.”

another short wave of applause makes you chuckle slightly. a deep blush spreads across sunoo’s face as he brings a hand up to his face in an attempt to hide his still-flowing tears. “thank you, hyung.”

⋆｡°✩ jungwon

the sound of someone gently humming a familiar melody catches your attention, making you pause in your steps. a boy is sitting with his back against the wall, absentmindedly scrolling through his phone as he begins to mumble out the chorus of your most recent comeback.

you softly smile to yourself, quietly stepping closer to him. you lean against the wall as his voice echoes through the hallway. you wait for him to finish singing the verse before you make your presence known. “wow,” you compliment.

jungwon’s eyes widen at the sight of you; his cheeks burn a bright red in his embarrassment as he scrambles to his feet. “y/n-sunbaenim,” he says as he quickly bows.

“oh, there’s no need for formalities,” you chuckle as you reciprocate the action. “it’s nice to meet you…”

“jungwon.”

“jungwon,” you repeat, letting the name easily roll off of your tongue. “nice name. i like it.”

“thank you, hyung.” he nervously laughs as he bows.

you softly smile at his flushed cheeks as you take a small step closer to him. “hey, i meant what i said earlier. your voice is incredible. really.”

“ah, thank you,” jungwon repeats.

⋆｡°✩ niki

niki pauses in the middle of his routine when the practice room door slowly cracks open just enough for you to enter the room. “y/n-sunbaenim,” he greets as he bows.

“niki,” you smile, reciprocating the action. “are you practicing?”

he nods, glancing back at his reflection in the mirror. “i was just trying to get the steps down perfectly before our performance tomorrow.”

“do you mind if i help?”

“not at all.” you softly smile as you walk over to stand beside him, watching his steps. each movement is sharp and controlled as he rehearses through the song.

“wait,” niki pauses when you object, standing still as you carefully reach over to maneuver his body into the correct position. his face burns brightly as a flush spreads across his cheeks at your gentle touch against his body. “here.”

“thanks,“ he murmurs.

you stifle a small chuckle at the deep blush on niki’s cheeks. your arm remains gently wrapped around his waist as he turns to face you. “we should do this again sometime,” you whisper.

“yeah,” he nods. “i’d like that.”
