fucking AU brain won't shut up. I'm busy! Here, have this.
Dream and Hob meet each other at a grief group and it's like "Dead to Me" levels of fucked up where Dream is this angry man with a dead son and a wife who hates him and nowhere to turn and Hob is this man trying so hard to be happy through all his fucking pain and they bond by Hob's sheer force of will because he moved here recently with his job to help support his growing family and Hob has no connections for family here and Dream is a very approachable man (jk, Hob just can't stand people who are as chipper as he is when he's in so much pain. He wants to feel fucking useful and so he wants to help Dream with his coping. Dream kind of grudgingly allows it because Hob is the only person who gets what he's going through who doesn't hate him right now.)
Anyway, Dream and Hob commit murder together of the man who killed Orpheus because Hob's wife and son died of natural causes (and probably negligence actually, but that's season 2) and he wants to take his anger out on SOMEONE, so sunshine man gets his hands dirty and he and Dream kill a man whose negligence and reckless driving led to the death of Dream's son.
It's not dreamling, it's immortal throuple. and Hob, in his grief, actually brings dream and calliope back together by helping them work through their grief, and he falls in love with them, even though it feels like betraying Ellie (Eleanor) and they totally understand and don't push him and the three of them are like, sitting on the couch spending time together and healing together.
Calliope freaks out when ahe finds out about the murder because the police are investigating (Johana Constantine).

Hob Gadling as a history teacher, yes, but don't stop running into things from his past.
On some field trip to a museum for their 16th century class, they come across a painting in which their students find someone very similar to their teacher along with the royal family ("a nameless benefactor" is all Hob tells them).
A class of legends from history? a student talks about the legend of the wandering jew who meets the devil every 100 years in the "White Horse" tavern. The boy even carries a copy of the drawing that Lady Johana Constantine showed them.
Does the literature professor want to do a joint lecture? At some point the subject of the man who tried to prevent Shakespeare's works from being exhibited and who always gave bad reviews of them in the taverns comes up. Hob tells that other professor that this mysterious man was his hero even if Shakespeare still became very famous.
Do they talk about black slaves? Someone remembers the story of a slave trader who repented and left the business, said man also freed his slaves and assured them a semi-dignified life with their wealth (During the entire debate on the subject, not once was the Professor Gadling's voice)
And even some students make a presentation about the bandits of the 14th century, where they talk about one who presumed saying that he would never die (in his own defense what he did 600 years ago does not define him as a person), it is said that many people tried to kill him but he always came back, like a cockroach, until, it is said, he finally died during a failed assault but it was a popular rumor that his body was never found.

(it’s Johanna Constantine/Death of the Endless because i am a sad lesbian and a Constantine stan who is in love with Jenna Coleman and Kirby Howell Baptiste)
Johanna Constantine has lost everyone she has ever loved. Why did Death hate her so much, why did Death work so hard to make Johanna miserable and not even take her too.
It was just supposed to be a catch up between Johanna and her old professor, nothing more, until the fucking Sandman showed up. At least he brought his sister,
Thana, she introduced herself as Thana, she was lean, wearing a black tank top and skinny jeans with a silver ankh around her neck. Johanna couldn’t help but flirt with the gorgeous inhuman entity, definitely wouldn’t be the worst date she took home.
“Johanna, I’m sorry we crashed your lunch, but I don’t want to take my brother’s joy away, let’s get out of here.” Thana whispered.
“I’m okay with that.”
the pair slipped away without notice.
“ah, I just love the feeling of sun on my face, and the spring air, everyone should take more time to enjoy the earth and just life itself!” Thana declares as they walked down the sidewalk. it was an interesting sight, this goth girl talking about enjoying life.
Johana laughed “If only death would give is more time to do such things.”
Thana looked at her oddly.
“you haven’t figured it out yet, have you?” she smirked
“figured what out?” Johana raised a brow.
“you’ll find out eventually.” Thana beamed and kept walking forward.
