my mentor is supposed to help me navigate doing a phd while autistic, so I told her I've been having trouble focusing this week because ofmd was cancelled and the 'tism gives me shrimp levels of attachment to things, and she very unhelpfully was like
'yeah it's okay to not be able to focus, it sounds like you need to engage with this thing you love and reassure your brain it's still there'

i'll say the pacing didn't really bother me THAT much this season until this ep, but now i'm mourning those extra two episodes we didn't get because they would've been complete game changers like
1) other people have said this but an extra episode between 2x05 and 2x06 of Ed and Stede trying to "take it slow" for one (1) day + some much needed jimarchie oluzheng development pre-oluzheng reunion + fun crew shenanigans + reintroduce the ricky threat earlier, give it time to sizzle
> Calypso's Birthday = 2x07
> Man on Fire = 2x08 (and their separation would perfectly mirror the Calico Jack breakup, which was 1x08!)
and then
2) Mermen gets split into two episodes:
2x09 = from Ed failing to be a fisherman to the all-pirate alliance with Zheng (more time for the tension and conflict to really build up, plus the successful love confession and kiss paralleling the failed love confession and kiss from 1x09)
2x10 = from the suicide mission to the ending (again better pacing re: tension and conflict, more breathing time for Izzy's death to really settle emotionally and make the reason for that death more transparent before moving on to the inn and the wedding, more time with each loose thread from this season that's being wrapped —Zheng and the crew, where everybody's going with their lives, what the Revenge will be up to and how that might look like, Ricky's reaction to this whole thing, and then on that, setting up what's coming next season better)
