Maybe dragging Sam and Dean’s otherworldly lookalikes into their world wasn’t the best idea Dean’s ever had. But it’s not like they’re gonna stay long. They’re just gonna help them out and then move their asses somewhere Dean doesn’t have to deal with the way the other Dean keeps glancing at Cas.

Chuck is gone and the world is saved. The Grady Twins have left the building, too, and all should be well.Except, it isn’t: Cas is dead and it’s Dean’s fault. It must be.

Dean sees little hope for himself, but the least he can do now is try and be the man Cas thought him to be. A brave man, who never stops fighting for the people he loves, one that cares about his brother and Jack.

When Jack returns, Dean finds one of Cas’ few sentimental possessions, and with it, his determination to get him back. If only he could find someone to take his place and help him hide his plans from Sam and Jack…

Not long before Prince Dean Winchester’s First Inauguration - a ceremony to enable him to become king once his father passes - Dean loses the one heirloom he was supposed to keep safe: the family’s amulet. He and his best friend Cas (who Dean is not so secretly in love with) set out on a road trip to retrieve it. With the prospect of being forced to marry Lisa Braeden and eventually rule the kingdom, this seems to be Dean’s last chance to be with the one person he actually wants to be with. And really: what’s the worst that could happen? Getting out of this golden cage? Just him and Cas? Sign him the fuck up.

As someone currently devouring all things Royal lately, a Destiel Royalty AU is just what I needed to reach full immersion. I'm not sorry at all, because I got to discover Broken Crown, a Royalty AU written by jeanpilgrim for last year's DCBB. 

In an AU where he is the next in line to rule the Kingdom of Lawrence, Prince Dean Winchester isn't exactly looking forward to his destiny as next in line for the throne. If he's being honest, Dean would rather spend his free time with his best friend Cas, son to the royal advisor, a man with his own destiny, to follow in his father's footsteps too. 

While the thought of being together seems like enough for both of them, things become complicated when Dean is expected to go through with an arranged marriage. 

Dean is wonderful in this fic, torn between his sense of duty to the crown and his family, and the love of his best friend and possible love of his life. His emotions and the rollercoaster of them he rides throughout the fic are well-written and engaging, and Dean and Cas's adventures on the road feel authentic and in the moment with the supporting cast chosen wisely. 

I really loved the twist in this story, the unexpected tie that opens Dean's eyes to a future he only dreamed of, one that weaves all the loose ends together and delivers a perfect happy ending.

It’s only a few weeks until Dean’s little brother’s wedding, and because Sam apparently hates Dean’s guts, he forces him to go to a dance course. A wedding dance crash course. And of course nobody has considered the fact that Dean would be the only one there without a partner. Just his luck. The first lesson holds a surprise for him though, when Castiel Novak walks in - messy-haired, road-shouldered, stand-offish Castiel. Castiel, who is there on his own, too, and who might just make the next weeks a little more bearable.

Dancing in the Moonlight is a charming romance that starts off with an instant albeit slightly rocky connection between Dean and Cas. The main premise of them taking dancing lessons just adds to the sweetness and delightfulness of this story, as well. Dean and Cas do definitely make a perfect pair as dance partners even though sometimes Dean steps on Cas’ toes! It’s also through their dance that truly shows their growing friendship and how in sync they really are. Their banter and interactions are so funny and cute and written in perfect character that so often I found myself laughing. Not only does the author write their interactions so well, but they write Dean’s point of view with strong insight giving depth to their romantic story.

Another plus is Charlie’s supportive friendship with Dean and she proves to be a wise friend. I really appreciated how the author, through Charlie, explored Dean’s confusion about himself and his feelings for Cas. This was done in a very sensitive and respectful way that resulted in a life changing revelation for Dean. Overall, the story is a delight to read with the right balance of more serious and deeper themes that makes this so memorable. I also have to add that there’s a surprise about Cas that will make you scream in glee!

“I might actually kill you for this.” Sam pinches the bridge of his nose and Dean can almost hear him count to ten in his head before he blows out an exasperated breath. “You done?” “I probably wouldn’t even get charged for murder, you know.” Dean muses. “I’d be acting in self-defense. The whole courtroom would throw me a pity-party.” “Dean.” “I mean, come on, Sammy. I tied your shoelaces until you were in middle school. I warmed up store-bought chicken noodle soup for you when you were sick. And this is how you thank me.” “It’s a fucking dance course, Dean.” It’s a wedding dance crash course, to be exact. Sam had enrolled Dean even before the latter had agreed to become his best man. Because, according to Eileen, Dean would be dancing at the wedding whether he likes it or not. And oh, he better not even think about touching the bridesmaids. Needless to say, his excitement over his baby brother’s wedding had dissipated pretty quickly. Dean throws his head against the headrest. Because Sam’s old Fiat actually has those. He once again wishes he had come here in the Impala, but Sam had insisted on driving him, as he was convinced Dean wouldn’t arrive at Balthazar’s Danza Extravaganza if he had it his way. Which was fair, really. Dean lets his head roll to the side to throw a last pleading look at his brother. Sam raises his eyebrows and determinedly shakes his head. Reluctantly, Dean gets out of the car. He pats its hood just to mess with Sam. For good measure. The walk to the small, run-down building with the Balthazar’s Danza Extravaganza neon sign above it feels like a walk to his own funeral. Okay, so maybe he is being a little dramatic. But come on. Dean Winchester is good at a lot of things. Dean Winchester fixes cars for a living. Dean Winchester plays poker with his friends over a few bottles of beer every week. Dean Winchester cooks mean burgers. Hell, Dean Winchester larps with his best friend Charlie and is not ashamed to admit that he loves it. But Dean Winchester absolutely does not dance.
