Time to ramble about Martin Strickland, AKA the bastard man!

Oddly enough, I actually have a lot of ideas for him. He's scum, But he's very fun to write for!

TWs: Abuse (Both psychological and physical), Transphobia, Sexism, Murder, Mentions of a car crash This man might as well be a walking content warning

General Info:

The Stricklands weren't always evil rich bastards. Martin's grandparents moved to the US from Ireland, Made a fortune, And got corrupted by capitalism. It stuck for future generations.

His parents were definitely not good people either. Martin just took that shittiness to the next level as he grew up.

He's cishet.

He's both transphobic and lowkey sexist.

The Past:

He went to college to study business. There he met two people, Aria Meadows and Jayden Foxglove (Jay's birth parent. Note: He used he/him and she/her pronouns).

The three became an odd friend group, Although it definitely felt like Martin was third wheeling Aria and Jayden's friendship.

Years went by and the three grew distant once college ended. Martin inherited both his family's wealth and manor. He eventually got married with only the idea of having future heirs in mind.

Once his youngest child was a year old, News went around about a pendant with unnatural abilities. He was determined to get his hands on it.

What he didn't expect was for Aria to already be there. She was on a mission to get the pendant as well. But she also learned about the Strickland's greedy desires and Martin's willingness to keep that family greed alive. She would not let someone with that much darkness in his heart get his hands on this power.

That's when Martin no longer saw Aria as an old friend, But as a threat to his power. So he killed her, Effectively destroying any good he had left in him.

Out of nowhere, Jayden suddenly attacked him. She wasn't a Music Dragon like Aria, But he went with her on this mission due to being friends with her. Out of pure grief and rage, Jayden left the scars on Martin's face.

Martin did manage to get the pendant, But left in a weakened state. Shortly after that, Jayden mysteriously disappeared, With her child being found by James and Hollie Benson.

Family and Business:

Martin had three biological children (Lynnette, Marianne, and Scottie), All AFAB. But he wanted a man and only a man to inherit his wealth. So he took in Benz Rodriguez (Belongs to @capturecharlesau).

Benz was considered the favorite child out of the four. Scottie on the other hand was considered the "black sheep" of the family.

Scottie could not keep up with Martin's impossible standards. While his abuse towards them started out verbal and emotional when they were a kid, They quickly became more physical as Scottie became a teenager once he learned they were nonbinary.

While Martin mostly used his ring hand, He also used wooden rulers when he was feeling extra ruthless...

Speaking of ruthless, He did many morally bankrupt things to keep his wealth growing, As well as to keep people quiet. Blackmail, Extortion, Even murder. Nothing was too low for him.

He likely talked to people like Vivian Arc (Belongs to @bluetorchsky) and Mr. Allwork (Belongs to @capturecharlesau) at least a few times because rich people business and all that.

Once Scottie was 17, They finally had enough of the abuse and ran away from home. Benz left shortly after to create his own path separate from his father.

Martin's Fate:

During the events of Shifted Timeline, Scottie tells Hazel Juniper about the Stricklands to avoid her writing about the Toppats. This was enough to cause an investigation.

Martin's horrid acts were exposed and he was ruined. His wife divorced him, Not because she was any better, But because she only married him for his wealth and she didn't want to get involved in his scandal.

Lynnette and Marianne also left home to go find both Benz and Scottie.

Martin was left with nobody and everybody now knew what he did. The last time he was seen, Was when he was found dead in his crashed car. After investigation, It was revealed that his brakes were cut. It was not an accident...

tw emeto, fever, character panic, mentions of past abuse.

When Novak is finding himself in a weird mixture of fully awake but partially aware, the first thing that crosses his mind is his daughter.

Looking at the clock, it is barely 1:30 in the morning. And sure, Novak always got up early for practice.

But he’d fallen asleep only an hour or so ago. His last text to Katarzyna was at 12:11am. His last text to Henry at 12:12am.

So his first thought is what his mom always called his maternal instinct. Whether it came from Novak seemingly adopting both roles of mother and father, or just how deeply emotionally connected he was to Elya, the same way Marina was connected to him, he wasn’t sure.

But right now, the only thing in his mind is if Elya is okay. Why else would he be up this early out of nowhere, almost expecting the worst from the second he opened his eyes.

Novak forced himself out of bed. The room spun around him. Initially, he figured he stood too fast.

Elya wasn’t in his room. Usually if something was wrong in the middle of the night she would come to him.

He stepped out, checking the bathroom in the hall. Nobody, nothing. He passed Marina’s room. Her door was shut.

He made it to Elya’s room, but heard nothing on the other side of the door. Quietly, he gently opened it, poking his head inside. Elya was completely asleep.

Novak shook his head, shut her door, and went back to his room. Maybe it was nothing. There were no signs of anything happening to either Marina or Elya.

He checked his phone. No important text messages. Nothing from Kataryzna, from Henry, from Jayden, nobody.

Novak’s head was still dizzy. His vision blurry. Maybe he was just due for a migraine. Maybe that was all it was. They happened at least once a month and he hadn’t had one yet. So maybe, that was all this was.

He laid back down. Maybe he could go back to sleep, and he’d feel fine when he got up. Or he’d know more about what he was dealing with.

Before he knows it, the time on the clock by his nightstand stares back at him like a threat.

4:03am.

His mom usually got up at 6:30. Elya would be up at 7, maybe 7:30 at the latest.

As the night seemed to drag on, Novak realized he started to feel worse. His stomach was unsettled, his head was dizzy. His throat felt like there was a pressure in it, and he found himself swallowing more often.

He couldn’t be sick. He couldn’t be. Not now. Not when Elya was here and he had practice and everything else. This was the last thing he needed.

Novak barely made out the time before he found himself practically sprinting for the bathroom.

He did throw up. And it was painful. Three thick waves came up, he could practically taste everything he ate between the end of practice and before he fell asleep.

Nobody came to the bathroom, thankfully. But when Novak could make it back to bed, he was pretty sure the glass of water on his nightstand hadn’t been there before he got sick.

Time passes. Not much, he figures. But enough.

He’s rolling over, leaning over the edge of the bed. Though he intended to throw up in the trash can, the haze of being sick maid his aim significantly worse, and the sound of vomit splattering on the hardwood floor sends a wave of panic through his body. The panic works in tandem with his stomach being pissed, but this time he’s able to throw up in the trash can.

Suddenly, the door creaked open, and Marina, Novak's mother, stepped into the room, concern etched into the lines of her face.

"Oh… słoneczko… are you alright?" she asked, the door clicking shut behind her. Marina’s voice was soothing as she came over. He felt the mattress shift to her weight, sitting next to him.

Novak could feel panic in his chest. In his body. Everywhere.

"I’m fine, I’m fine," he managed to rasp out, his voice barely audible, the words were shaky and every letter that left his mouth brought him closer and closer to being sick, “Elya… Elya isn’t…”

Change the subject. Maybe changing the subject would distract her. Marina would be mad, wouldn’t she? She had to be.

“She’s still sleeping,” Marina said, “What happened?”

Novak nodded, spitting into the trash can.

“I don’t…” Novak tried to force out, his words lost in a dry heave, “Woke up…. Woke up si-“

Another heave cuts him off. It’s mostly dry, but it tells him he will, in fact, throw up again. Pretty soon, truthfully.

“Yeah, I heard you throw up earlier…” Marina said, “Did you just feel sick then or have you been feeling bad?”

“I woke up… didn’t feel good,” Novak answered. His words were short and he could feel himself shaking.

Marina's worry deepened as she observed Novak's pale complexion and the sheen of sweat glistening on his forehead. But the shaking was what worried her most.

“You look terribly ill, słoneczko," she said, sitting beside her son and starting to push back his hair. She didn’t say anything about the floor. That was something to be dealt with later.

Her fingers were cold against his skin. She clicked her tongue in that way. Novak couldn’t describe it. But he recognized it.

He had a fever, he figured, but that disappointed click of his mother’s tongue told him enough.

But before Marina could tell him, another wave of nausea surged through Novak's body. He doubled over the trash can, his whole being consumed by the overwhelming urge to vomit.

His mother's alarmed gasp barely registered as he retched, his body convulsing with the effort to expel whatever remained in his churning stomach.

Novak could feel the way his whole frame, built as a classic linebacker, muscular and strong and resilient, trembling with the sheer agony of it all.

Marina had always had an incredibly strong maternal instinct. But she also knew her son. She knew he would be embarrassed, ashamed, so she just sat next to him, offering soft verbal reassurance. The only time she touched him was if his hair fell forward.

Once more, Novak’s breaths are heaving as the spell is over. But it’s not entirely sickness based.

Novak's distress went beyond the physical symptoms. The sickness triggered a haunting wave of memories, memories that had long been buried deep within him. As he struggled to catch his breath, a tightening sensation gripped his chest, a familiar sense of panic creeping in.

Marina observed her son's turmoil with growing concern. His breaths were labored, his chest rising and falling erratically. She sensed there was more to his distress than just the illness plaguing him.

“Słoneczko," Marina's voice was gentle, a hint of worry lacing her words as she noticed the anguish etched into her son's features, “What’s happening..?”

Novak attempted to speak, but the words felt lodged in his throat, suffocated by the rising panic within him. Memories of his tumultuous past surged to the forefront of his mind, a chaotic whirlwind threatening to engulf him.

He gripped the edges of the trash can tightly, the coolness of the plastic grounding him slightly. Yet, the memories of abuse, the feelings of helplessness, and the desperation from his younger years mingled with his current distress, amplifying his panic.

And then the floor. He got sick, wouldn’t that ruin the floor? Did it hit the rug… would the rug be damaged? He could replace both, he would if they were damaged.

For once, though, he flinched as Marina’s fingers brushed against his cheek as she went to push his hair out of his face.

Marina's brow furrowed in concern, she pulled her hand back.

In that moment of vulnerability, Novak felt an overwhelming surge of shame and fear, emotions that were deeply ingrained from his past experiences. His breaths became shallow, his heart pounding in his chest, threatening to burst through the cage of his ribs.

The room seemed to shrink around him, the walls closing in as if suffocating him. Novak fought desperately to regain control, but the panic tightened its grip, threatening to consume him whole.

The pain of the past, intertwined with the current sickness, rendered Novak helpless in the face of his own internal turmoil, trapped within the grip of a panic attack that he couldn't shake off easily.

“Słoneczko?” Marina asked again, “What’s wrong?”

“I’m sorry,” Novak forced out, “I’m sorry…”

That was all he could say. Surely she was mad. Marina had to be mad. Everyone else was.

Marina's expression softened, her eyes reflecting compassion rather than anger. She leaned closer to Novak, her voice gentle and reassuring.

“You have nothing to be sorry for, my dear. You're not in trouble," she said, her words filled with warmth.

Novak's chest heaved with each shallow breath, the panic still holding him in its grip. The fear of being a burden lingered within him and he was terrified. Deeply terrified.

"I'm here, Novak. You're safe with me," Marina murmured softly, trying to soothe him. She knew that for him, the wounds of the past ran deep, and the scars of his tumultuous history had yet to fully heal. Even if she knew next to nothing about it.

“Hey, can I check your fever?” Marina said, “Just with my hand…”

Novak nodded slowly, letting her. He was tense, but less jumpy.

“Yeah, you’re burning up…” Marina said. “Deep breaths, okay?”

As Novak struggled to regain composure, Marina's maternal instinct urged her to delve deeper, to understand the pain he had endured before she came into his life. She reached out tentatively, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.

"Novak, słoneczko, can you tell me what’s got you so worked up maybe?” Marina spoke gently, “If I know… maybe I can help.”

Novak's breath hitched, his gaze dropping to the floor. The memories of his tumultuous upbringing, the constant shuffle from one abusive foster home to another, flooded his mind.

"It was... difficult," Novak began, his voice barely above a whisper. His throat tightened with the weight of emotions he had buried for so long. "I... I moved around a lot. Different homes, different people. Not... not good ones, never… never good ones…” Novak managed to say, the pain of those years evident in his eyes.

Marina listened attentively, her heart aching for the young man who had endured so much before finding stability and love in her home. She squeezed his shoulder gently, offering silent support as Novak navigated the daunting task of revisiting his troubled past.

“Oh słoneczko, you poor thing,” Marina sighed, continuing to rub her son’s back.

“I’m sorry…” Novak said, “I’m sick. I got sick… on the floor. Please… please don’t be mad… please…”

“I’m not mad,” Marina said, “Słoneczko, I promise I’m not mad. Why would I get mad for that?”

“Because… I… I’ve been through it before, I don’t want… not with you, please,” Novak said, his voice coming out in a scared, desperate whine.

“I’ll tell you what, why don’t I grab some cleaning stuff, you can clean so you’re less stressed.” Marina said, “I’ll call Jayden. Elya would love to spend time with Uncle Jayden.”

Novak forced himself to nod, placing his hand on his chest. His breaths were evening out and he was thankful. He hated when this happened.

Novak sighed, finally, and took a small sip of the water. It felt good on his throat, not so much his stomach.

Marina came back, cleaning supplies in hand.

“Elya is already getting her backpack ready,” Marina chuckled, handing some over to Novak.

“She likes Jayden. And Henry. Most of the team really, and they adore her too,” Novak said, starting to clean up the mess, “Sorry, again, about this. I didn’t mean it.”

“I know you didn’t,” Marina said, “Trust me słoneczko, I understand.”

Novak tossed the paper towels into the trash. He finished cleaning, Marina took Elya to the door to pass her on to Jayden, Novak heard his car out front.

Novak sighed, tying back his hair. He felt considerably less nauseated now. But it was still a possibility he’d be sick again.

“I’ll tell you what, słoneczko, why don’t we go into the living room,” Marina said, “I have my current canvas already up there because Elya was watching cartoons yesterday, and if you want to talk more, you can. Or, we can just be in each other’s vicinity so you aren’t alone. I don’t want you alone like this.”

“That’s fine,” Novak eaid, finishing up and gathering his stuff, putting his phone in his pocket, “I’m exhausted anyway so…”

“Yeah, I figured,” Marina said, standing beside Novak and helping him stand, “I’ve got you, you’ll be okay.”

The disassembly drones' former names

I figured that I would share this headcanon with all of you sooner or later. You know each of the disassembly drones’ serial designations? Well, what if their letters were based off their former names back when they were worker drones? And I’m not talking about the first letter of their names. I’m talking about the name of the letter in each of their names. For example, N’s former name was probably either Kenneth, Bennett, or Leonard, and V’s former name probably either Venus, Vivian, or Genevieve. J’s former name was probably either Jamie or Jane, the latter of which I was initially going for Mary Jane (yes, the same name as the famous supporting character from Spider-Man). I’m unsure about CYN or Cynthia, though, largely because that she probably died long before the events of the series that she wasn’t converted into a disassembly drone. Besides, for all we know, she was going on a crazy, murderous rampage that she had to be put down. And if she was converted into a disassembly drone, her designation might be either C from the first letter of her name or T from a phonetic of her name (Cynthia).

The former names should go as followed:
