sometimes i hate being a woman because i just realized i’ve been living vicariously through so many nhl players this entire time because i will literally never make it to that level of professional hockey even though it’s always been my dream. like no matter how hard i work at it or how bad i want it, i will never be good enough because of my gender. it hurts so much to think about the fact that even 100 years from now there will probably still not be room for women in the nhl. little girls will continue to grow up with unachievable dreams because there is nothing in place for them to achieve them. the PWHL only had their inaugural draft this past season. we are over 100 years behind. currently the most you will probably make in the PWHL is $80,000 a year and the average nhl player gets paid $3.5 million per year. that means the HIGHEST PAID women in the PWHL will be paid 43.75 times less than the AVERAGE nhl player. currently, the highest paid nhl player receives $12.6 million per year. 157.5 times less. i’m not even angry about this. it’s just heartbreaking to sit down and think about it sometimes.

Me: I am so chill about this playoffs, I am just happy they made it and we get a couple more games, just gonna enjoy the vibes.

Asher was walking after his family out of the hotel as he had to finish something up so he told them to go to the Arena and he would meet them there.

Asher shut off his phone and he paused seeing the Perrault’s family hotel room door cracked open, he furrowed his brows because Ryan said they had left already.

Asher knocked on the door and didn’t get an answer so he slowly walked in and saw the back of head and saw the curls, he knew it was Gabe.

“Perrault.” Asher called out leaning on the door snapping Gabe out of whatever trance he was in as he was staring at the mirror with his tie all messed up and his jacket not on anymore. Which was weird becasue Asher had seen Gave an hour ago fully dressed.

“Asher.” Gabe breathed out and took a few deep breaths.

“What’s wrong with your tie.” Asher nodded to the tie that was hanging losely around Gabe’s neck.

“I needed to get it off.” Gabe simply spoke trying not to run a hand through his curls because his mother would kill him, “And now i can’t get it back on.” Gabe was overwhelmed and just snuck away for a few minutes but had to rip the tie off because he could barely breath.

Asher kicked off the wall he was leaning on and walked over, he reached his hands up for the tie and looked at Gabe for permission and Gabe quickly nodded hoping he didn’t look to nervous with Asher being so close to him.

“For someone who ties a tie almost every week your not very good it at.” Asher quipped softly and Gabe let out chuckle and a fond eye roll.

“I’m stressed!” Gave protested watching Asher intently as he tied the tie for him. Gabe has never been this close and is seeing all the little details on Asher’s face for the first time, like the little freckle by his nose and the few tiny white lines scattered across his face that Gabe knows are scars.

“Relax you’re a decent hockey player you are going to fine.” Asher deadpanned and finished tying the tie.

“Thank you.” Gave let out a long breath and his shoulders relaxed slightly and he grabbed his suit jacket and slipped it on and buttoned up the buttons.

Asher just simply nodded and started walking out with Gabe right on his heels.

Gabe thought Asher looked hot in his suit as always, a black button up shirt and black suit, simple but always looked good on Asher.

Asher and Gabe both walked in silence as they got to the bottom of the arena and saw both of their families waiting there and not at the arena yet either.

“There he is!” July let out a relieved sigh as she finally found her son. She pulled Gabe into a quick hug before they all headed out of the hotel.

Ryan gave Asher and Gabe a suspicious look but shook it off.

something about how trades really do affect players. how it's not just us as fans being crazy or reading too much into it. it's real and it's painful. erik johnson has lacked the hutzpah he once had ever since leaving colorado, as if he could bear landeskog's injury but the second he was forced to leave it all came crashing down. sidney crosby has lost much of the joy he once carried and it's because he had the human, golden embodiment of that joy in jake guentzel torn away from him when he needed it most. dylan larkin shed genuine, heartfelt, distraught tears when tyler bertuzzi was traded away. the penguins still welcome marc-andre fleury to pittsburgh every time he plays there because, no matter where he is, that is his home. pk subban could never return to the same player he was after he was taken from price. trevor zegras is seemingly incomplete without drysdale at his side. brandon duhaime is lacking his connor dewar. bowen byram no longer has his alex newhook to lean on and laugh with. travis koneckny and nolan patrick may never even get the chance to play another game with or against one another. and who could imagine kuznetsov as anyone but a capital? do you really think of pavelski in the green of the stars or do you see him proud in teal beside thornton and marleau? did shea weber ever really stop being a nashville predator? and what about beauvillier, horvat, compher, dumolin, burakovsky, kadri, yamamoto, hornqvist, eberle, o'rielly, barrie, jost, gaudreau, karlsson, carter and richards, martin, and so many others? even wayne gretzky himself went to three teams post trade, searching for that spark he had in edmonton after they made him leave. jagr had eight after pittsburgh. you are not crazy for grieving, in some small way, a player you lost. and they aren't crazy for feeling distraught either. these teams are family. and family is everything, even if it gets ripped apart so easily.

good evening and chag sameach to my hanukkah-celebrating pals out there on hockeyblr. today i bring you: a non-comprehensive and entirely subjective review from one (1) jewish hockey fan of the graphics posted by various nhl teams in celebration of the first night tonight. i definitely missed some, and some teams didn't post any at all, so it's a bit patchwork. here we go.

vancouver canucks: this is an extremely serviceable graphic. love the blurred dreidels to give the effect that they are spinning. very funny. props for the detail that there is a shadow of the menorah on the ice. straightforward. icemenorah is a themeTM but some did it better than others and this is a classic. 7/10

carolina hurricanes: obsessed with what the canes have done here though i cannot comprehend it. the weird techno style textured background. the out of focus magen david around. THE HURRICANES. IN HEBREW. WITH THE LITTLE CANES LOGO THING I FORGET THE NAME OF ON THE HEI? INCREDIBLE. points for creativity. overall baffling vibes. 6/10.

pittsburgh penguins: this is just adorable. you hired someone to draw this. spectacular work, guys. it's giving a bit of 'we browsed the target hanukkah deco section for inspo' but it's too adorable for me to care. it's team themed, it's hockey themed, it's holiday appropriate. love everything going on here. they get points for doing what very few other teams are doing and remembering this is night one, so only one candle is lit. most everyone else is getting a bit a head of themselves. 9/10.

washington capitals: and here we have another edition of the icemenorah, with a minimalist twist. this graphic screams 'oh fuck wait is that tonight' which to be fair is also how i, a jew, felt about realizing tonight was the first night of hanukkah. could'a done more, but it's perfectly fine. 6/10.

new jersey devils: this fucks. it's got devils themes. it's got a cool style. it's got vibes. it's got: more hockey stick menorahs which i am always excited about. that shamash candle is a graphic design nightmare but other than that i am all on board. 8/10

vegas golden knights: i love the gold foil effect and that you remembered there was more to hanukkah than candles, that's nice, as is involving the other affiliates! however. where are the vibes. this is not the vgk wishes you a chag sameach, this is a greeting card i got on etsy. 6/10 just bc i KNOW you can do better. where's the neon, babes.

los angeles kings: oh this is fun. it's icemenorah: WITH A TWIST. the art style is cute, it's got plenty of hockey theme, it's also very obviously LA-y, i'm giving them points for this one. the shadow is insane but that's okay, it's ~stylistic. it's cute. 7/10. UPDATE: definitely AI. boo hiss. 0/10.

montréal canadiens: this is probably my favourite for sheer vibes. you got: levitating icemenorah. you got: action-shot candle lighting. you got: remembering this is night ONE. you got: the implication that the torch is the shamash candle????? you got: JOYEUSE HANOUKKA!!!!!!!! (and like happy hanukkah or whatever i guess). obsessed. it's so funny. it's amazing. 9/10.
