So, it just occurred to me that Carrie explaining Julie and her ‘hologram band’ to her dad in 1x09, pretty clearly for the first time, means:

He didn’t go to Eats ‘n Beats, which, I guess I knew, but it just kind of hit home that he should’ve been there to be supportive. But at the very least, wouldn’t you have told your dad about it later?

She also didn’t tell him about being “upstaged” at the spirit rally.

She didn’t tell him where she was going when she went to Julie’s garage party.

She didn’t explain in any detail when she came home with a bunch of kids to throw an impromptu party the night of the dance.

So Carrie doesn’t go to her dad when she’s upset, doesn’t vent to him, and doesn’t even ask him for professional advice. Like, does he have any idea what’s going on in her life? Does he even care? It’s just sad.

Third Watchthrough of Julie & The Phantoms; here’s what I noticed while watching the season finale:

The scene in 1x09 when Caleb poofs the boys into his club; giving them one last chance to join his house band. He listed each of the boys’, individual, wants. And used those against them. In order: Reggie, he wants to stay together w/Luke & Alex. If they cross over, he might never see them again. Alex, he has fallen head over heels for Willie. Caleb lets him know that, by joining, Alex can spend all the time he wants w/Willie. Luke, music is one of the most important things to him. He’s been saying it since episode 1, he likes the feeling of forming a connection with people through music.

Caleb knows what is most important to them: their friendship (Reggie), love (Alex), and their music (Luke). I will commend him for doing his homework on each of them.

Okay so I have now finished Julie and The Phantoms and I just want to say that I was NOT prepared for that emotional journey and I'm thrilled but very confused by that ending??!? SOS send help??!!!!

Through the power of love and friendship and music, Julie saves the boys (who in turn, have saved her by bringing music back to her) from Caleb's grasp. The tattoos go away. They no longer will get jolts or feel the urge to go to Caleb's club (or die all over again.)

I believe they were able to get to Julie in Stand Tall because they never said "yes" to Caleb. They never consented. He kind of used his powers of persuasion to get them on stage, but the second Julie begins, they feel that pull again to play with her. It shows that not only are their instruments attached to their souls, Julie is too.

Caleb is, obviously, not happy with this. There's a theory he works for someone bigger (aka, he's the devil's right hand man or the devil personified) and needs to get them back. Somehow, he figures out Nick is kind of a loose cannon. He doesn't belong in any of this and therefore the perfect candidate to infiltrate. He takes over Nick's body as a host for his soul, likely to charm his way into Julie's life and rid her of the guys. If he can make Julie fall in love with him, play songs with Nick, and manipulate her to distance herself from the band (planting seeds of lies and doubt), then the boys might have no problem joining Caleb. No band = no purpose = good reason to sell your soul and play for rich people.

The fact that he knows Julie had a minor, inconsequential crush on Nick (and therefore palatable for his affections) could be a coincidence (right place, right time), but I like to believe Caleb has known for a long time what's at stake here, what kind of cards he and the others have been dealt.

Do you ever think about how in Wake Up Julie sings “and I’ll use the pain ‘cause it’s part of me and I’m ready to power through it, gonna find the strength, find the melody, ‘cause you showed me how to do it” and by Stand Tall that’s exactly what she does? She thanks her mother because she’s using the pain of losing her, the memories she has of her, the love and grief she still holds for her to power through it and perform with strength because Rose showed her how to do it even when she wasn’t there. Not only that, but the way it relates to the boys too - they showed her how to fall in love with music again. She performs for them as well, knowing they helped her find the melody once again. She really comes full circle, huh.
