Celebrity friends of Bremont add stardust to London Townhouse showcase

Bremont invited its UK friends to its second annual Townhouse showcase in late February, with guests throughout the week including retailers, journalists, actors, explorers and food journalists.

The event was hosted this year at One Horse Guards, a Grade II listed building with views of the River Thames and iconic London landmarks including the London Eye, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.

The guest list to one of the evening parties included: Tom Hardy, Paul Simonon, James Purefoy, Tom Parker Bowles, Liam Teeling, Charley Boorman, Susanna Reid, Ben Shephard, Jason Fox, Aldo Kane and Jeremy Hackett.

Bremont will continue packing celebs into lavish townhouses, with an additional event taking place in New York City for US partners.

The Humble Bee & Offthesky - All Other Voices Gone, Only Yours Remains

"All Other Voices Gone, Only Yours Remains" is the result of a dialog between Nieves Mingueza and the musicians The Humble Bee and Offthesky initiated by IIKKI, between October 2018 and June 2019.   The Humble Bee is the solo project from Craig Tattersall, a former member of The Remote Viewer and Famous Boyfriend bandmate Andrew Johnson. Tattersall's music can be found these days more often under his alias The Humble Bee; as a founder member of The Boats; and in his collaborative works with the likes of Bill Seaman in The Seaman And The Tattered Sail. He has run the wonderful label Cotton Goods from 2008 to 2015 and since 2009 he has recorded 9 albums on his moniker The Humble Bee. Originally from Kentucky, since 15 years, Offthesky is the prolific musician Jason Corder who currently resides in Denver, Colorado in the United States. His catalogue shows over 70 albums which have been released by a number of labels such as Databloem, Dronarivm, Eilean Rec., Hibernate, Home Normal, Rural Colours, SEM Label, Wist Rec. Nieves Mingueza is an experimental and independent artist using photography and other visual media. Born in Spain, based in London. The often-cinematic themes in her projects have in common her fascination with old books, film stills, vintage cameras, poetry and minimal drawings. Nieves' work is ultimately about the foggy relationship between fiction and reality. Additionally, she is exploring about immigration, mental health and human conflicts. “You will not defeat us!” Daniel shouted. He raised his arms, ready to attack or defend. By his side, Brittney and Jason were at the ready. Jason readied his sword, and Brittney flexed her arms 

 Facing them were their enemies. Nathan, Jasper, and Kelly. Their blasters were in their hands, ferocity in their eyes. The air was thick with tension, and bloodshed was imminent.

  “None of you shall live!” Nathan retorted. “Charge!”

Vicious sounds filled the air; the sound of blasters, the battle cries of the warriors, the screams of the dying. First Brittney fell, then Jasper, being sliced down by Jason’s blade. However, Jason was then shot in the back by Kelly, who was then taken down by Daniel. 

Daniel and Nathan faced off against each other. “You’re finished,” Nathan said, raising his gun.

Before he could pull the trigger, Daniel kicked the weapon out of his hand. Nathan then raised his hands to block against the onslaught of his other punches, but Daniel was too fast. He slipped past Nathan’s guard and struck him in the chest. The air filled with the loud thump! of Daniel’s fist against Nathan’s body.

 “Ow!” Nathan shouted. He fell to his knees and hugged his chest. “You hit me too hard!”

Daniel’s face went red. “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to!”

The others, who had been spread out on the ground, rose up and ran over to them. Brittney was the most concerned; she always was when Nathan was involved. Everyone knew she had a crush on him, well, that is, except for Nathan. 

 “Are you okay?” Brittney asked, kneeling next to him.

Kelly, Nathan’s older sister, seated herself in one of the nearby swings. “He’s alright. He’s just being a big baby.”

Nathan glared at her. “It’s okay, I’m fine.”

Daniel was still flustered. “I’m sorry, Nathan.”

 Nathan smiled. “It’s okay. Nothing I can’t handle.”

 “Let’s play something else!” shouted Jason. 

 Jasper scrambled up the ladder to the red castle that had a steering wheel at the top of its blue tower. “Let’s play superheroes.” He got to the top. “I’m Batman!”

 “I want to be Batman!” Brittney whined.

“You’re a girl!” Jasper argued.

 “So? I still want to be him.”

They argued about it for a while. In the end, Jasper was Batman, Brittney was Batgirl, Nathan was Iron Man, Kelly was Supergirl, Jason was Captain America, and Daniel was Spider-Man. That was when they realized no one was a bad guy. So they just fought invisible, imaginary monsters, running around the playground, kicking, zapping, and shouting until the July sky blushed pink and their parents told them it was time to go home.

Rhetoric is the story I tell myself about my/self (Sharee)

I propose to use Canva to develop an interactive project that answers the question “What is Rhetoric” with the statement from Jason that “Rhetoric is the story I tell myself about my/self.“

Section 1:  Story 

This section will examine various elements of “story” and the way that we come to “know” or “believe.”  Theorists that may possibly be included are: Lanham, Rickert, LeGuinn, Foucault (Self Writing), Cixous, hooks, Siegert, Hume, Douglass, Willard, Corder, Wolfe, & Hurston, plus Version Control.

 Section 2:  Tell

This section will examine “tell” including: the rhetorical situation, performativity, law, braided threads, carrier bags, cultural techniques, and masculine vs. feminine registers, as well as Annihilation.

 Section 3:  Myself and my/self

This section will discuss humanism, being human, and the post-human. It will discuss identity, love, resistance, perpendicular universes, hierarchical values, and Dawn.

What I envision are three different sections that all answer the question, but that use embedded links to build on, and interact with, each other.  For example, I can give a narrative description/elaboration on “story.”  I can discuss what the various theorists have to say about story as I interpret it.  However, when words and concepts in “story” connect with a different concept from Sections 2 or 3, then there will be an embedded link that you can click upon and it will take you to a description of that concept, OR it will take you to that page where that concept is being explained.  That way you can immediately place the theorist or idea in a broader context.

The Canva (or other platform) page will also include visual elements to make it visually appealing and fun.

Willamette's Week's Beer & Cider Pro/Am at Leftbank Annex

PORTLAND, ORE. – Tickets​ are on sale now and the teams have been announced for Willamette​ Week’s​ 6th annual Beer & Cider Pro/Am, happening Sunday, October 14 from Noon to 6:00 p.m. at the Leftbank Annex (101 N Weidler Street). The Pro/Am is Portland’s original home brewer and professional brewer collaboration event, and benefits Oregon​ Wild.​Guests meet 30 teams of homebrewers and pro brewer/cider makers, who debut (and pour for themselves) their new beer or cider available for the first time at this event!

Entry allows samples of all beer and cider in the competition, no tokens, no tickets, no huge lines. Guests can also vote for their favorite in the People's Choice competition, and see which beer and cider the esteemed judges (including Jeff Alworth, Ryan Spencer, Kat Martin and others TBA) decide are best. Music by DJ​ Lemix.​Food by Tamale​ Boy​and PDX​ Sliders,​Tickets include commemorative, reusable, recyclable pint glass, made possible by Gnome​ Grown Gardens.​

We Were the Hum of Dreams /  The Humble Bee & Offthesky (Laaps, 2020)

La fin programmée du label ambient français Eilean – présenté dès le départ comme une constellation lointaine constituée de cent astres/albums – ne nous aura pas attristé longtemps puisque son créateur Mathias Van Eecloo lui en a donné une suite fissa : Laaps records. C'est via ce dernier que nous retrouvons aujourd'hui Offthesky et The Humble Bee un an seulement après leur magnifique premier effort All Other Voices Gone, Only Yours Remains, confirmant ainsi que la rencontre de ce duo formé respectivement de Jason Corder et Craig Tattersall (membre fondateur de The Remote Viewer et de The Boats) ait été bénéfique, du moins assez pour trouver matière à poursuivre l'aventure.

We Were the Hum of Dreams ou "Nous étions le ronflement des rêves", l'intitulé lâche d'emblée les mots qui nous permettront certainement de mieux interpréter ce nouvel opus et plus largement la musique offerte par le duo. L'onirisme y est en effet présent, doublement même. D'une part, et comme le sont souvent les œuvres ambient, l'album extraie de sa musique une vapeur douce et enivrante créant de purs moments d'émerveillement. D'autre part, ses compositions sont construites comme des enchaînements de fragments disparates conférant à l'ensemble une impression que l'on pourrait rapprocher de la logique des rêves. Portée également par la voix éthérée de Rin Howel et par le sax perché de Cody Yantis, la beauté y est ici toujours insaisissable, mais bel et bien présente à chaque recoin de cet album d'une grande sensibilité.

Quant aux ronflements (ou ronronnements) et à l'utilisation du passé, ceux-là renvoient plutôt aux textures granuleuses et poussiéreuses qu'affectionne tant le duo, façonnant finement une musique sans âge se situant quelque part entre le field-recording et l'hantologie, entre le sublime et l'impressionisme. Pour ses raisons et bien d'autres encore, We Were the Hum of Dreams reste à n'en pas douter l'une des plus belles œuvres ambient de ce début d'année.

As he struggles to recall recent events, a woman wakes up in a Shanghai hotel from a similar dream. A fragmented conversation with a pet shop owner on the phone sets off an abstract mystery in Tel Aviv and Shanghai. Through a fragmented stream of events, the film explores anxiety and instability between two strangers on the phone. Insomniac City has been initially commissioned for the Venice Biennial of Architecture in 2004 but gradually mutated into a longer film with narrative elements. It is a project that from its inauguration has set out to be worked on in continuous stages in chapters resulting in a full length film [70 minutes]. It is a single channel film and also a 3 channel video-sound installation. “Ran Slavin’s The Insomniac City Cycles work vacillates between reality and the imagination, wakefulness and sleep, and creates an affinity between the psyche and the urban sphere.
