First, the OG notes from the outdated post:

→ This count is not about “which was the very first digimon-human contact”, and yes about people with a digivice. Because if we were going to count who was the first human to have contact with a digimon, it’s actually two and they’re Oikawa Yukio and Iori’s dad, Hida Hiroki.

→ I’m ignoring all the inconsistencies with other material (WS & ▽) because they seem to not match well with the original count. So, in this case, Ken’s statement in the anime (Aug 2000) is the one to be accounted for here. I don’t know if Ryo counts as Chosen (possibly yes, judging by 02 flashbacks) but I’m not sure where to place him here.

→ I’m only adding Michael to the count, even if he’s not a main character and yes a side character, because 02 ep 14 had this statement regarding him. And I like Michael too so, let me have him there :V

→ Menoa states in the movie she met Morphomon when she was nine, and according to the Dash X novel version, she’s the same age as Taichi. Which means she became a Chosen in 1997.

→ I couldn’t think of how to include Maki & Daigo’s group in this because ▽ contradicts with the original lore’s math – The fact the Pt4 book released with the movie on Japanese theaters state them being in Elementary School the time they went to their adventure in the DW, and later the confession scene means they’re in University/College makes them possibly been Chosen Children way before 1995, and I’d take it granted that they were chosen by someone else IF weren’t for the Homeostasis being involved in the scene and the digivice being way too modern for that time (it was basically Taichi group’s model. If you look at Rui’s digivice in the leaked footage from DigiFes2022, his model seems to be different and an older version)

→ That said, Meiko is the only character in ▽ that does not fall into contradiction with the math count. Because in 1999 there was not only Taichi’s group, but also other 8 non-featured Chosen according to Kakudou’s notes. So we can consider Meiko one of those other 8 children.

→ When it comes to Wallace, I prefer to think he is game in the original math – Taichi and Hikari met that Koromon in 95, but they had no digivice until 1999. Which means it can be possible that Wallace had encountered Gummy-Choco’s egg before 1995 and only became an official Chosen Child later.

Now, the new notes:

→ To avoid spoiling any detail about the movie itself, I’ll make sure to tell you they might have changed how the math works only. It’s not like, “everyone gets a digimon at the same time” but rather… “A X number of people get partnered with a digimon in different periods of a year” – Which means yes, you can still count Rui and Ukkomon as the origins of the Digimon partnership, but that later in the same year someone else (or, say, Wallace in the main timeline) got a partner months later.

→ That said, I’m opting to update this list and work within the idea that various sources of partnership (Homeostasis, Holy Beasts, etc) can be counted in the math. Remember – Homeostasis (not referred to as this in the OG series but yes in the novels) had selected Taichi & co., but the Holy Beasts chose Dai-Miya-Iori. And some other entity probably chose Ken in August 2000. This could explain why there’s a higher number of partnerships happening at the same time in Adv’99 and 02.

→ As I mentioned before, and indirectly supported by the staff (check the official timeline at the top of the list), ▽ has violated the lore to the point it goes in direct conflict with the new 02 movie and the entire timeline. So I guess it’s better to consider ▽ as its own timeline/Alternate universe than forcing it into the main timeline.

→ That said, and since Meiko does exist in Kizuna/main timeline, I suppose Maki and Daigo also do exist, and maybe they got their “ages” retconned and down to something suitable to the universe’s math count. They can still be part of the previous five kids mentioned in Adv’99 anime/novels, but they are probably around their teen years, or even early 20s instead, not fully adults working for the government I suppose. Or alternatively, just not Chosen yet. Pick your favorite route, Maki/Daigo fans!!

→ Yes, the Koromon from the very first movie IS NOT THE SAME PARTNERED WITH TAICHI. This never was confirmed, and was just fandom's theory. Considering how ▽ also made this mistake and possibly was one of the lore's violation, I prefer to believe this means it's not the same Koromon/Agumon partnered with Taichi in Adv'99.

It's 4am and too hot to sleep so you know what that means?? Time to do MATH :D

In ascendance of a bookworm they mention the price of a lot of things and the mention of 'silver coins' or 'gold coins' makes it sound like a lot right there and from the reactions of everyone else around myne it's clear she's spending alot. But I have absolutely no clue how shocked I'm supposed to be cause myne herself doesn't seem to have any problem with throwing money at things she wants. Leise, Fridas chef, actually comments on it in the side chapters of the LNs saying that a poor girl suddenly coming into a lot of money all at once has clearly skewed her sense of money.

So I'm gonna do a very simple conversion just to make the math easier

10 lions=10 cents

Small copper=10 lions=$0.10

Middle copper=100 lions=$1.00

Large copper=1,000 lions=$10.00

Small silver=10,000 lions=$100.00

Large silver=100,000 lions=$1,000.00

Small gold=1,000,000 lions=$10,000.00

Large gold=10,000,000 lions=$100,000.00

So $0.30 for some fruit at a market. Giving a 6 year old a couple dollars as thank for walking your daughter home.

After that it falls apart a bit. Tulli and mynes mom are really excited to be making $2 a hairclip to the point of pulling all nighters. Then again in the light novel myne also shows a lot of surprise that they're so excited over making so little. She has to rationalize with herself that in Japan small crafts like bracelets were sold for 100 yen and she later finds out that the baskets they made the year before likely paid only a couple small copper on top of the families having to provide their own materials.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this cause I'm too lazy to try to find the chapter but Ralph working part time as an apprentice brings home about 8 large copper a month. Or 80$. He's a child only working 3 out of 7 days a week so let's say people who just sign on to be full time (can't remember the term) make double as newly signed apprentices to keep math easy. That's 320$ a month

They're poor and they're not affected by late stage capitalism so this math is still fine especially since it's normal to have several working people

Lutz states later that he feels weird saving money when the most any poor commoner saves is stashing loose copper around the house for winter prep. So 5-10$ stashed here and there as emergency money.

Benno offers myne 2 small gold for the rinsham recipe as a way to help myne save for her devouring. She raises it to 3 and benno, a rich store owner, is incapable of going higher. With this conversion he offered 20,000$ and agreed to 30,000$. Given the circumstances the conversion still holds pretty well

Apprentice outfits for Lutz and myne are either 8 or 11 small silver I can't remember. So between 800 and 1,100$ for hand stitched work clothes for a high end store. Which means it has to be made with higher quality materials and made to order.

So when myne offers a large gold to enter the temple she's offering $100,000. It's no wonder everyone was shocked

I'm pretty sure the reward for helping Angelica pass her classes was a small gold for Damuel and Bridgette and a recipe for Cornelius. Thats 10,000$, enough to make a poor lay noble like Damuel weep tears of joy cause he can finally pay off a debt.

She tells the other dutchys she spent 18 LARGE gold on making a book of another dutchys history. She spent $1,800,000 on materials for a hobby (of course it was less for her since she made the stuff in her own workshop but no one else knows that and shes not about to explain it)

This girl is absolutely insane with money no wonder everyone is speechless

Gaetano Pesce (8 November 1939 – 3 April 2024)

Moving against the stream of rational, functional modernism in the 1960s and early 70s, Mr. Pesce experimented with materials and production methods to create furniture pieces imbued with political or religious meaning for brands from Cassina to B&B Italia.

Many would go on to become icons of Italian design including the Up5 chair – an innovative vacuum-packed chair designed to resemble a female prisoner – which he designed for B&B Italia precursor C&B.

Pesce moved to New York in 1983 and began to move away from mass production to create "standardised series" in everyday materials like resin, adapting conventional production techniques to create varied and imperfect outcomes.

The result are pieces such as the 1884 Pratt chair, which toe the line between functional design and decorative art, helping to create a new category that would later become collectible design.

Mr. Pesce was born in the Italian city of La Spezia in November 1939, only two months after the start of world war two.

As was common at the time, he trained in both architecture and design, studying first at the University of Venice and later at the Venice Institute of Industrial Design.

Among his architecture projects is the Organic Building in Osaka from 1993, with its plant-covered facade made of orange fiberglass that served as a precursor to today's vegetation-covered green walls.

But Mr. Pesce's most pioneering and well-known work happened in the world of design. In the late 1960s, he became one of the leaders of Italy's Radical Design movement, rejecting modernism's rigid focus on forms dictated by function.

Instead, Pesce focused on the idea that functional objects, much like art, could carry a deeper message.

One of the most famous examples is the controversial Up5 chair from 1969, which manufacturer B&B Italia describes as "the first product of Italian design with a political meaning".

the focus of satosugu is not on the physical aspect. it could've as well happened, it could've as well not happened. it doesn't matter if it did.

as a fanfic writer, i can see both paths, i can comfortably craft the plot towards agape or eros. that was gege's point as well, i think.

no matter what sexual relationships satoru gojo might have, the only one to whom he opened his heart was suguru geto.

people ask me to write fics with gojo x female ocs and i don't mind doing that, (especially on the smut aspect). but i can't bring myself to write about love, a love that gojo would have towards anybody else. it just wouldn't feel right. so of course my narrative would turn... not the brightest since gojo is somebody you, as a person want to love, but he'll never love you like that.

i'm also a bit afraid of publishing this oc x gojo fic i have in drafrs, lol. since i like giving background to my female ocs, the idea i have is for the story to take place in 2007-8, before gojo went to pick up megumi (which happened in 2009), making my oc born in 1987, when some grim things were taking place in japan. in my other fanfic, phenibut flowers, the story is dark because well, my oc is a drvg addict su1cidal hedonist.

in this story, i want to make my oc a child that has been left to die in a coin locker (happened a lot in the 70-80s japan, only in 2007 they took measures against it). it's theme that really fascinated me and i wanted to explore how such an oprhan would grow up. but my writing is rather descriptive and i know that the details of a baby left to die would more visceral than average gore/tws.

i don't know what even is the post of this ramble.

I was tagged a while ago by @lurkingshan, thank you! Here I go again late as ever.

1. are you named after anyone?

No. My mom just liked the name. It was old-fashioned so people were a bit surprised at my mom for picking it, a bit like naming your child Hattie in the 80s. Most siiris were either in a nursing home or six feet under. There were only 400 siiris born between 1960-1990, middle names included. In the 2000s early 20th century names became trendy again, so there was a bit of a siiri boom and I went from a child centenarian to a millenial zoomer haha.

2. when was the last time you cried?

I cry a lot. It's my stress relief. Today I cried after my doctor's appointment because it didn't go as I'd hoped. I was hoping for clear answers or a surgery date but instead I got referrals for more uncomfortable tests and the waiting game continues for several additional months.

3. do you have kids?

No.

4. what sports do you play/have you played?

None.

5. do you use sarcasm?

Not more than your average person.

6. what’s the first thing you notice about people?

I'm not sure. I mean it's not intentional.

7. what’s your eye color?

I think that's green!

8. scary movies or happy endings?

I don't watch scary movies at all so happy endings it is.

9. any talents?

I've been told I have a way with words so that one I suppose!

10. where were you born?

Middle of nowhere, Finland.

This was my first ever spring, I'm told.

11. what are your hobbies

gardening, cooking, rpg games, language studies, walks, taking photos, the occasional writing. I haven't been able to enjoy them in the past year though because of my health problems. :(

12. do you have any pets?

My spouse & I have a pond where we keep koi fish, goldfish and medaka.

Last year I got sick and had to move in with my mom so I'm currently staying with two very sweet irish red setters. We've had three other dogs too and I still consider them my pets even though they've been gone for several years. We still keep their ashes on a counter, talk about them and share their old photos.

13. how tall are you?

around 155 cm

14. favorite subject in school?

I was bullied even in class so I honestly didn't enjoy any subject even though I never struggled with my grades.

15. dream job

I don't even know anymore. My dream is to get better and be able to go back to our house in Japan. I'll figure out the rest later.

Never seen ultraman

What should I watch first to see if I like it or not?

Ultraman is a tokusatsu series with a very large variety of tones and styles. Each season is distinctly different from the last, especially in the New Generation era. Some seasons are very serious and gritty, some are slice-of-life, and some are light plot/heavy action. It's up to you on what you'd prefer!

I want to preface with the three eras (and sub eras) of Ultraman, just so you're aware of these terms when they come up:

Showa (1966 - 1987)

Heisei (1996 - 2012)

-> Heisei Trilogy/Part 1 (1996-1999)

-> Heisei Part 2/Phase 2 (2000 - 2012)

New Generation (2013 - Present)

-> Reiwa (2019 - Present)

That being said, I give you 5 equally valid options to begin:

Option 1:

Ultraman (1966)

Start with where it all began!*

Ultraman (1966) is Japan's take on the Twilight Zone but with a superhero-esqe twist. If you enjoy older sci-fi like the early seasons of Doctor Who or the first Star Trek, you'll greatly appreciate the practical effects, deep but episodic plots, and the unique kaiju/seijin.

From there, watch in order of release and enjoy just how much the show evolves. All the highs and lows.

*(Side note - technically Ultra Q (1966) is the first show but does not feature Ultraman whatsoever. This show serves as a prequel to the idea of kaiju and seijin in the modern world. If you're a completionist, you can start here and be amazed at how there are *still* monsters and plots making reappearances from this show)

Option 2:

Ultraman Tiga (1996)

Ultraman Tiga is the beginning of the Heisei Era and is widely regarded as one of the best series in the entire franchise.

I have lots of love to give to Tiga specifically, and this post of mine explains why that is:

Option 3:

Ultraman Mebius (2006)

Ultraman Mebius is the 40th anniversary of the Ultra series and is a beautiful continuation and love-letter of the Showa Era timeline. It features returning cast members, monsters, and plotlines from Ultraman, Ultraseven, Jack, Ace, Taro, Leo, and 80 (which all take place on the same Earth).

This show is a perfect introductory piece to the series because it exposes you to such a large amount of lore from the past while recontextualizing it with modern effects, richer storytelling, and a more serious tone. Mebius has so much heart, happiness, and hopefulness. It's a very positive and "heroic" type show.

Option 4:

Ultraman Orb (2016)

Ultraman Orb is, even while nestled in the near-middle of the New Gen Era, a fantastic starting piece and my typical recommendation for starters. It's quite fun and light-hearted but has an intense emotional core surrounding lost love and a broken friendship. The action and special effects are top-notch, and the main villain is an ICONIC character who pops up many times in later shows.

This show introduces fusions, which become a frequent New Gen trend (Orb does it the best of all). Great choice if you're looking to get dropped somewhere not too confusing or plot-intensive yet still action-y and engaging.

Option 5:

Ultraman Blazar (2023)

Ultraman Blazar is the newest season of Ultraman and started airing back in July. As of writing this, we are currently at Episode 8.

Blazar is unique and inventive so far in both its plot and aesthetic. It has a semi-serious sci-fi/military feel mixed with amazing new kaiju and.... a really strange Ultra lol. Blazar is unlike most thus far. He's primitive and beastly, kinda like a caveman.

It may not be the most completely accurate representation of the series as a whole, but nothing beats the excitement of watching the newest season as it airs!! The Tsuburaya official YouTube channel simulcasts each new episode as it airs in Japan (with japanese or english audio and subs).

(I tried to censor out as many instances of both j-words that i could easily find, but I've probably missed a couple :/)

I've already made at least one post mentioning EXACTLY the kind of things going on in this tabloid article from September 1987, from the very start of Michael's first solo tour, which he started in Japan. This is the kind of treatment he was already getting post-Thriller: more overt racist name-calling, with Japanese people getting caught in the racist crossfire just by way of being Japanese. The continued lie that he "completely changed his face" because he hadn't come forward about his vitiligo and lupus yet. The continued push that he was either gay or a virgin just because he didn't frequently publicly date, while they claimed to talk to his "closest aides" about it....but then generating their own rumour that he wanted to become a mormon so that he could have multiple wives?? At this point he was still loosely JW, and didn't leave them for good until 1990. His chimp being with him is true but trying to assert that he would have refused to do the concerts if the chimp wasn't there is completely ridiculous.

But let's get to the main point of what this haphazard "article" is trying to get at, which is that Michael's new look was "too sexy", and "shocking and angered Japanese mothers who brought their children to the concerts". I have watched and read multiple first-hand accounts of people who attended some of these concerts, including as children, and they only had good things to say even from casual fans. This includes some Japanese news reports covering the first 8 dates in Osaka, Nishinomiya, and Tokyo, nothing about them saying his performances or the clothes he's wearing being shocking or perverse from what I've seen. The dance moves that the article claims "would make Mick Jagger in his heyday blush" were mostly the same body rolls and pelvic thrusts that he had literally already been known for his entire life up to that point. The crotch grabbing was the only thing new. If this was the 60s I would maybe believe these things to be shocking, but it was the 80s and his moves were already known as playfully provocative at most.

And as for the clothes....yes, the pants and belts were leather-ish and taken from BDSM gear. Aheem. The shirt was actually a black breathable bodysuit that came in different colors with the collar pattern stitched on. But as I said in previous posts, it's literally not anything more shocking or visibly sexual than what manyyyy other male acts were doing in the 80s. White America was once again just angry that this Black American star had international hyperstardom, and could reinvent his sound and aesthetics at will while still being extremely commercially successfully and loved and setting himself as the standard. In articles like these the racism and jealousy is very, very, obvious.

And to cap off this already long post here's some of the only surviving footage of the black shirt from that first concert in Tokyo which the tabloid claims was soo shocking and raunchy. Come to your own conclusion. You're welcome.
