#it's weird in the way a comic from 50+ years ago is
Text
so I've just read the infamous green arrow issue that convinced the fandom that Ollie and Roy hate each other and that Ollie is a bad parent... and like that's not how it reads at all? like obviously Ollie was really shitty to Roy in these issues but like it's very clear throughout it that they have a strong bond and I'd say they very much make it clear that they'll make it past this? people need to start actually reading the comics they're referencing istg

About Omniman and Debbie dating…
Spoilers
I headcanon that the reason why Debbie gave him a second date is because she had no idea he was an alien on the first.
Tumblr media
“Our first date was 20 years ago, Nolan.”
“Oh. Mostly I remember you dumping me right after.”
”Oh yeah, because you were a ****.”
Tumblr media
“Come on, I flew you to Rome!”
“Yeah, and you expected me to worship you because of it.”
So we hear the Viltrumite cover story when Nolan is explaining where he’s from to Mark. We can assume that Cecil and maybe the Guardians knew about Omniman being an alien, but we can’t say the same for the human public.
I’m sure the cover story was eventually spread around for the in-universe comics or whatever superhero interviews he had, but we don’t know exactly when that happened.
She said he only got another date when she saw him save kids on the news, but that could be an exaggeration. People that have been married for a long time tend to tease each other and say odd things, and I think that’s what she was doing.
Here’s what I think actually happened:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nolan saved Debbie from getting crushed, and they struck up a long enough conversation to set up a date. At this point, she had no reason to think that he wasn’t a human superhero, because those and human supervillains are the majority on Earth. And Viltrumites look human.
But our guy here is from fascist Viltrum, and their culture and language centers around war, conquest, and power; they also had a mere 50 people left in their population from the plague, so repopulating was [and still is] top priority.
Nolan was way too impatient and trying to woo her using his instincts. … Which are to talk using the authoritarian soldier tone of his people, and prove himself a worthy mate by exhibiting his powers.
Debbie got the vibe that he was some narcissistic human superhero with red flags, so she decided one date was more than enough.
Our fella spent a few weeks trying to puzzle out why this tiny human female rejected him [the equivalent of a few days of deep thought]. At first, he was offended that something so weak was unimpressed by Viltrumite speed and strength. Eventually, he couldn’t stop feeling how attractive it was for something so helpless to be so feisty and courageous like a Viltrumite female. And also to be sweet and disarming when in a good mood, unlike the females of his race who were always seen with the same unapproachable and serious body language and speech no matter how happy they were.
[Not that he understood these feelings. He just understood the need to win this woman over.]
So one day Debbie opens her front door to Omniman in civilian clothes, standing like this:
Tumblr media
And the first thing bro says is
“I’m here to request a rematch.”
And so she’s like:
Tumblr media
“…You’re what?”
”A rematch… of that dinner. From before.”
Tumblr media
“You mean a second chance?”
She practically hears the dial up noises in this man’s head as he tries to puzzle out a response to that.
“I believe so. Yes.”
And that’s when something clicks in her head and she remembers that aliens exist, and that Omniman kind of showed up out of no where. That’s how she got the idea to ask him if he was human or not, and got a hushed admission that he’s from off-planet.
Tumblr media
At the baseball game she was frustrated but not that surprised that she needed to explain why the kid’s baseball game matters. I get the feeling that this isn’t the first time she had to explain a seemingly mundane Earth concept to Nolan.
But yeah, not knowing how messed up Viltrum actually is, Debbie gave Omniman a second date because she figured out he was an alien. And that meant there would be weird cultural differences, including how they try to date.

well, you made a fighting roster for one of your favorite things, bugs, so why not do your second favorite? HALLOWEEN.....but you don't have to if you want.
I actually did that of my own accord with concept sketches once but it was two years ago so a lot of people haven't seen it.
Tumblr media
It started when I made up a Darkstalkers fan character; a "scream queen" (type of horror movie actress in the 50's) and Bug Eyed Monster duo, with some more move ideas:
Tumblr media
But then I decided to just make a dozen monster fighter characters of my own like it was its own distinct game and not Darkstalkers:
Tumblr media
Mermaid who was partially eaten by people who thought it would make them immortal, instead it killed them because she was poisonous but she doesn't know that so her ghost is stuck on a revenge killing spree that can never be satisfied
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cartoon werewolf in a zoot suit and punk rock vampire with boombox coffin, I didn't come up with storyline for them, I just needed a werewolf and a vampire
Tumblr media
Frankenstein's daughter who put her brain into her own monster in order to defend humanity against her dad's creations and other supernatural threats, I decided on this partly because I'm not really into superheroes but they're one of the top most common Halloween costumes so I tried to make a Halloweeny one that I'd like
Tumblr media
Nurse who accidentally transfused herself with cursed mummy blood. I made this one because there's a picture I drew when I was real little of a bleeding mummy with the words "MUMMY BLOOD" on it that child-me thought was the scariest picture ever, and also because I love the (mostly Japanese) trope of medical themed mummies. Also based on the fact that "sexy nurses" are a top selling Halloween costume and then that easily ties into a Silent Hill reference. This all felt creepypasta-like so she's also like a slendersman
Tumblr media
Old fashioned Halloween mascot pumpkin man with a vegetable ghost gang, actually the ultimate villain of the setting and a monster that eats children
Tumblr media
"Bogeyman" fighter inspired by edgy 90's comic books, a ragdoll scarecrow grim reaper clown. She's a manifestation of the fears of children, but in the sense that she exists to destroy whatever threatens them so her main goal is to kill all other monsters and especially the pumpkin guy
Tumblr media
Entire zombie outbreak as one fighter, represented by a cute little fungus mascot, but every fighting move is performed by zombies coming and going from the ground
Tumblr media
shapeshifting space alien disguised as a generic housewife, the human disguise would animate like a doll being played with by invisible hands
Ideas for extra-weird, secret unlockable fighters:
Photorealistic giant insect
Vincent Price parody and all his moves are obvious special effects performed by a film crew in the background the whole time
Mysterious entity in a "morph suit" because that's become such a staple of Halloween costumes. Changes into all manner of colors and printed textures for different moves or is the token "mimic" character.
Completely normal middle aged office worker who was on his way to work when he was accidentally caught in the monster brawl, battles on the power of pure blind panic. The tournament put his name down as "I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE"

I find really weird when people are all upset about the Batfamily as if is this new thing and not an almost 70 year of history. There's literally a comic storyline from the 40's where Batman fight with the child protective services to keep Dicks guard, not only fighting but literally saying and I quote "he's like a son to me".
There's instances since the 80's where Nightwing addressed Bruce as his dad several times and talk how he was raised by him and how he loves Bruce and Bruce loves him (even thought he doesn't say it). There's multiple panels of Batman telling stories to Jason and Dick to sleep, taking them to school, showing up to their PTA reunions, checking on their homework (in this case also for Tim). Even panels (shortly after Jason's death) where Dick was fumbling about Bruce's unhealthy way of grieving and how could he take all of the pictures of his son, Dicks brother. Bruce also back in the late 80's early 90's literally got empty nest syndrome when Dick went to college.
Again we're not talking about some comic run that got out a couple of years ago, we're talking about if being lightly almost 50 years of consistent history. Characters constantly referring to eachother as family and acting as such.
If there's anything new is this sort of disregard and animosity towards robin and any idea of compassion in the Batfamily, or batman himself and the batfamily system, a thing that was a core part of Batman's comic's and Batman's character since the beginning.
Batman was never alone.
Batfamily is not the new fandom thing that it's ruining it's characters. It was always here. It was part of the beginning of DC comics and it helped to stabilize many beloved things we have in the DC cannon today (DC finest. Teen Titans. Titans. Young Justice. Sidekicks in general. Teenage heros. Teenage teams. Harley Quinn's introduction. Joker's stabilized place as one of the most terrifying Batman's rogue and so so much more.).
Maybe, it's not that DC is getting to fandominish, or too "avengers fanfic 2012" maybe you just enjoy a very specific phase/aspect of the DC cannon and kinda blind yourself to another very very real one.
also. I bring the receipts:

People following me for my lace.... please know I do comics too. Here's my original ones:
Cloud and Rain, 2015-2016, 115 pages
Tumblr media
Tihku lost their brother in a storm. In the fields opening from their Forest stands a lone Cumulus cloud, lost from the sky, without their core. What's left for either of them but to go out to the world and try to find what's deemed impossible?
This is my first comic with my own characters, a weird journey I wrote down at 3am one summer night and then spend years in therapy trying to understand the layers of it. It's my best work.
.
Bus Children, 2016-2021, around 500 pages
Tumblr media
It's early spring when Jooel Kukkonen runs away from home. It's spring when he founds himself in Uusinen, a city destroyed and rebuild after a magical flood 50 years ago. Everyone knows of the flood, that's what caused Metsä, the confusing forest to grow. That's what created the religion his parents believed in. Jooel doesn't really believe in anything. But maybe he wants to live, after all. It'll be autumn when birds return home.
Bus children is about my father. And religion. Jooel is the tiny child from my past I wish to tell it becomes better. Because it does. Whole cast of Uusinen is very dear to me, we spent some good years together.
.
Plant, 2021-
Tumblr media
This is how the story starts: fae wakes up on the windowsill, impossibly. A microwave pings. This is how the story starts: human visits the summer cabin. They kiss under old willow tree. This is how the story starts: grief is pressed under dried petals, inside crafted paper wreaths, into childhood songs, into baked bread, on the soft, stretching evenings of late harvestmoon. Love too. The story goes on from there.
I don't know how to explain Plant in way that doesn't spoil it. It's made of moments scattered in time, hopefully one day revealing the full story. Human and fae become flatmates. They try to make the most of it.

raven’s name has technically been rachel roth for 20 years too but im not fucking calling her that lmao…idk for me it’s partially 1) fuck johns and the way he sought to completely change kon’s character and spit in the face of all his prior development just to make his stupid fan theory canon 2) having a character go from going by kon to conner is like going from tim to timothy. why make it longer, yfeel? and 3) 50% of the people who call him conner misspell it as connor, which would be fine (annoying, but ultimately harmless) except dc already has a connor, and i’m vehemently against dc’s inability to come up with an original name for any of their characters. hashtag team jon should’ve been given literally any other name bc there’s already like 6 jonathan kents
i know there is a lot to criticize about johns's run, but i honestly don't find a lot of things with what he did with conner leading up to his death in infinite crisis in terms of characterization to be out of character. although, full disclosure, i haven't revisited teen titans vol. 3 in [checks calendar] 7 years, so there might be some gaps in my memory.
i like that he's getting used to having an actual structured life with going to school and living in a house with parents that care about him. he's also still dealing with the aftermath of the finale of his solo series and graduation day! he's adjusting! it would be normal for him to feel weird and off. this is a post that i made a few years ago with a good addition from another user that puts this well.
however, i do generally dislike the luthor reveal because of how many stories that came after for conner have so heavily focused on it, when a) we already did something similar in the 90's with his original backstory and b) it contributes to one of the most annoying fan discourses i've had to see for my entire comics reading experience regarding superman being a 'dead beat dad'. unfortunately, at this point, it is a part of canon that is ingrained in too many fans and writers' heads, and is tied into too many plot lines for them to go away with it. such is the nature of a shared intellectual property! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
i think i'm probably misreading what you're saying, but kon isn't short for conner, and i don't think tim's full name is a good comparison. they’re two separate names. i've posted about the origin's of the name kon-el a few times over the years, and i even have the issue where he receives it in my personal comic collection. it is a very important part of the character's history, and a good thing to point to when people doubt the positive relationship between conner and superman. the name is one with real history, and it is a gift!
this is where my own headcanons and speculation comes in: it makes the most amount of sense to me that conner is a name that he specifically chose himself when he was adopted by the kents.
if somehow i missed a random issue of superman or action comics from between when his superboy series was canceled to him showing up in teen titans that gives an origin to the civilian name conner kent, or even just an interview with the creatives discussing the issue the name first shows up in, please send it my way!
if such a comic or interview does not exist, and if i ever had the chance to write the character, this is 100% something i'd like to explore. i have my own ideas that i've thought about a lot over the years (and even a middle name picked, too).
i also think that there are much bigger problems with dc comics than a few characters sharing a first name. like a lot more problems.
conner is his name as much as it is kon, and it's not wrong to call him it in the way that it's not wrong to refer to superman as clark or kal. the comparison at the start of this ask to raven is interesting, but i think the key difference there is that rachel roth feels like a regression (she's deaged and put in high school) and to me conner kent is further growth (being with the family that wants him in their lives).

The Daily Dad
Things you might want to know, for Jun 24, 2023:
Tumblr media
Love Island’s Jessie hospitalized after spiked drink — It was a shitty end to their trip, but I’m happy to see that Jessie and Farmer Will are still together and visiting the US. She had a rough run of things on Love Island Australia, and everyone seemed to dislike her on Love Island UK, but I’m fond of her… hope she’s okay.
Millions of perfectly fine HDDs are shredded each year because of 'zero risk' security policies. Spoiler alert: There's still a risk of stolen data from just a 3mm scrap — Yes, it is unfortunate that working hard drives full of recyclable parts are being destroyed and tossed in landfills. Yes, it would be great if we could find a better way. But the thrust of this article —don’t bother shredding drives because a super-sophisticated, targeted restoration of minute bits of data from shredded drives is possible— is just clickbait wankery.
Restaurant's mistreatment of workers included bringing in "priest" to hear their "workplace sins" — Wow.
Camera review site DPReview finds a buyer, avoids shutdown by Amazon — I’m not a Camera Guy, so I wasn’t particularly sad about the once-imminent demise of DPReview, but I’m glad the shutdown has been averted. The web has a nasty habit of erasing it’s own history, and there is a lot of info on that site that should be preserved.
200+ things that Fox News has labeled “woke”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kickstarter >> THE MARVEL ART OF DAVID MACK AND ALEX MALEEV—2 DELUXE BOOKS by Clover Press Art — The list of 21st century comics artists I truly love is short: Frank Quitely, Pia Guerra, Sean Phillips, John Cassaday, Michael Gaydos, David Mack, and Alex Maleev. That’s about it.
Alleged Stalker Sets Twitch Streamer Justfoxxi's Car on Fire — Yikes.
Masnick's Impossibility Theorem: Content Moderation At Scale Is Impossible To Do Well — A bit of truth that should be borne in mind… the sheer size of the online population has now reached a point where it’s virtually impossible to ever do the right thing at scale.
Amazon named its “labyrinthine” Prime cancellation process after Homer’s Iliad — This is exactly the sort of thing that requires government-powered consumer protections… “dark pattern” UIs aren’t accidents, and should be punished aggressively.
Tumblr media
Taylor Sheridan Does Whatever He Wants: "I Will Tell My Stories My Way" — As much as I love Hell or High Water —just watched it again a few weeks ago, still amazing— Sheridan’s Yellowstone is a sloppy mess of a show that doesn’t give two fanciful fucks about character development or even common sense. But I firmly back his desire to make his show the way he wants it made.
Star Trek has never known exactly what Klingons look like, until now (maybe) — Klingons look like Worf. The end.
Evolution Keeps Making Crabs, And Nobody Knows Why
Jack Kirby’s family sets the record straight after “informercial” Stan Lee documentary — I’m sympathetic to complaints from the Kirby family… yes, Jack defined the look and storytelling conventions of modern comics, and anyone talking about Stan’s Marvel work should always talk about Kirby and Ditko as well. But say what you will about his hucksterism and fame-whoring, Stan Lee wrote some things in all those captions and thought balloons that mattered, that people still remember sixty years later.
After porn-y protest, Reddit ousted mods; replacing them isn’t simple — That site is a cesspit and always has been. If Kevin Rose hadn’t fucked up Digg, we wouldn’t even be talking about Reddit today.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tony Stark and Emma Frost are getting married in September — This… makes a weird sort of sense.
50 Years Ago, the Woman Who Would Usher in the True-Crime Boom Befriended Her Co-Worker. His Name Was Ted Bundy. — I’ve never read any of Anne Rule’s books, but her impact on the genre is unquestionable.
Psychologist warns of the major red flags if you enjoy true crime documentaries — Meanwhile… 🙄.
On Scanning QR Codes With Your iPhone — There’s a dedicated QR code scanner built in to iOS, and I had no idea.

Frontiers got the Sonic brain worms going again, and I’ve had this thought for a while.
Tumblr media
Does anyone else...really dislike the thought of Shadow working for G.U.N. from ‘06 onwards?    G.U.N. were a consistently negative force in their earliest appearances. In Sonic Adventure 2, they were a corrupt organisation responsible for killing almost everyone on the ARK, including Maria, and covering it up. By the present day, they’re still equally shady, to the point that they’re implied to be going after Sonic in part to cover up the fact that Shadow is loose. They basically serve as the embodiment of everything that made Gerald and Shadow hate humanity and want to wipe them out.
Tumblr media
Their next major appearance is in Shadow the Hedgehog and while they aren’t killing researchers en masse anymore, they’re just kind of useless here. Their commander (one of my picks for one of my least favourite Sonic characters by the way) is a reckless, trigger-happy reactionary, who is less concerned with protecting his country from an alien invasion, than with resolving a petty, wrong-headed grudge against Shadow. Side note, how did you work for G.U.N. this long and never realise they were the people actually responsible for killing Maria? Seriously, screw this guy.    All this to say, I don’t much like G.U.N. or their role in the story. When they’re not cartoonishly evil they’re either incompetent or just boring. But at least these games recognised that they were, you know, kind of the bad guys. Or at least untrustworthy. But nope, come ‘06, Shadow’s just working with them now. Many people praise Shadow’s story as the best part of ‘06 despite its faults. And I mostly agree. But I really dislike this as a conceit for that story to happen.     I don’t care if Shadow’s leaving his past behind him. This feels wrong. Even if you assume Shadow is willfully ignoring everything that happened in SA2 because ‘something, something, I’m not that person anymore,’ these people spent the last game trying to kill him for no reason. And have never shown themselves to be remotely trustworthy or competent. You can infer he’s possibly joining G.U.N. to fix it from the inside, but we’re never actually told that. Nor does it feel like intentionally relying on subtle implication. It simply feels like fans just filling in gaps where the writers didn’t bother, something this series makes us do far too often. Is this your idea of fulfiling Maria’s dying wish, buddy? Frankly, it’s a bit rich of Shadow to have whole character arc about never being a puppet again in his own game, and then instantly become a tool for the shady government faction. I guess being a pawn is fine as long as it’s not for a gravel-voiced alien, then. This just serves to make Shadow look stupid at best, and outright hypocritical at worst. Even if they’re not as bad now as they were 50 years ago, I still don’t see Shadow looking at the mess these guys were in ShTH, and thinking ‘ah, yes, these seem like precisely the people who will give me purpose and help me make the world a better place’. I’m not gonna claim that this is a ‘plot hole’. Characters not making the decisions you want is not a plot hole and I know that. But I do think it’s a very…weird choice for this character in a game that’s supposed to be all about him making his own decisions after everyone keeps ordering him around and placing expectations on him.     And yet, for as much of ‘06 got retconned, this has stuck. Chronicles has Sonic and co. working with G.U.N. briefly with no fuss and Forces keeps Shadow as a G.U.N. agent. As did the Archie comics. Even Sonic & Tails R, a fan project I really like, kind of leans into this and frankly, I don’t like it. I’m honestly glad that the movies have consistently portrayed G.U.N. as self-involved and shady. They’re the ones who brought Robotnik into this mess in the first place and they’re still spying on Sonic in the sequel. Because as far as the old games were concerned, the fact that they were incredibly sketchy was kind of the point.
Tumblr media
TLDR, I don’t like how G.U.N’s actions have been conveniently forgotten, if they must be in the story at all, I think they work better as antagonists, and I don’t believe Team Dark have to be affilated with them to function themselves. In fact, as far as out of character stuff goes, I’d say this bothers me MORE than the whole ‘Shadow is Vegeta now’ controversy. If this aspect of Shadow gets dropped at some point, I’ll have no complaints.

I quite like this manga Go with the Clouds, North by Northwest by Aki Irie. Is that a big deal with U.S. comic fans?  Tony Isabella was onto it years ago; there was a Minovsky tweet, of course; I don’t know-- I always feel weird about being the guy going “Have you heard of this band The Beatles?  And their album The Best of the Beatles?”, but I’m off on my own island mentally, so I don’t know what’s big or not anymore.
Anyways: I hadn’t heard about it before-- I only heard about it because I saw someone mention the “hiking manga” they were reading over here (always read the comments).  I haven’t gotten to any hiking yet so I’m not sure what they were talking about.  It’s a Kodansha comic-- here’s a 50+ page sample of volume 1, and these images are from this review.
It’s about a teenage Japanese kid who solves tiny “mysteries” in Iceland while living there with his (horny) grandfather.  But it’s got a slice of life rhythm to it-- it’s one of those Japanese quiet manga-- instead of a comedy or crime rhythm-- it’s more about just being in Iceland than anything else.  The reaction I’m seeing from readers is mostly “I want to go to Iceland.”  (I’ve always wanted to go to Iceland, so sure-- that’s a #2 destination to me after Portgual).
Irie has this facility with double page spreads that are just about sustaining mood and awe, more than a dramatic impulse (at least so far-- a “real” mystery seems to be accumulating in the background-- I’m only a dozen chapters in).  There are a few pages where Irie seems to be reaching for something that reminds of that old Paul Pope description of the power comics can have, where you can capture one space’s energy and a completely different space’s energy on the same page, maybe in the same panel. Plus: Irie can really draw grass, which is a wild compliment, but.
I don’t feel a way about the story, but I just quite like the rhythm of it.  Quiet is sometimes louder when everything else is too loud.

I’m sorry if I bother you, I’ve come for advice since I think you’ve dealed with this kind of stuff before. Since I was 11 years old I’ve been a fan of a cartoon character. He’s been my comfort character all my life. Back in the early 2000’s I had a fan page devoted to him. I attended a few cons where I met his Voice Actor and this character has been a very important part of my life. (1/6)
When I turned 21 I had a little picture of him tattoed in my arm. Few years ago I got a Twitter account for this character (since I don’t have the fan page anymore). All this time I’ve been posting pictures, quotes, little videos, merchandising, etc. I don’t interact with people or anything, I just post my stuff and continue with my life. I had around 1200 followers. (2/6)
About 10 days ago I noticed I had lost like 200 followers overnight. I thought it was strange but I didn’t really care because I’m not the kind of person who counts followers. Then I started to get hate messages, basically telling me that because I’m an adult, maintaining a Twitter account for a cartoon character was weird and it means I’m a pedophile. (3/6)
I’ve never talked to anyone, I guess they figured out I’m an adult since I always post stuff from the 90’s and all, but my account is clean and there’s nothing there to make anyone think I’m a creep or anything. Thing is, they have been attacking me for more than a week, I’ve lost almost 700 followers and I honestly don’t know what’s going on, where did this come from or what’s happening. (4/6)
The person I think started everything (because she’s the most vocal insulting me) is a teenager Egyptian-American girl I don’t even know. For now I’ve been ignoring everything, not a single comment, not a reply, just acting as if I hadn’t even noticed what’s going on. But it’s stressing me. I’ve thought about closing my account but I love it and also, I did nothing wrong and I don’t want to act guilty. (5/6)
Also, I don’t want to interact with teenagers or discuss with them. At this point I don’t know what to do and I’m very sad. My only “mistake” there is being an adult… but this cartoon character has been my comfort character since I was 11. How do you deal with stuff like this, with the haters and all? Any advice? Thank you so much! – The Cartoon Girl (6/6)
Hi Cartoon Girl ❤️ Let me first give you some hugs and tell you how very sorry I am that you're going through this. You're being bullied, and that's a terrible thing to go through no matter what age you are or what "reasons" the bullies have for picking on you.
As for your age... There's no age limit on fandom. And there's no age limit on cartoons. I've been a life-long fan of cartoons, and one of my favorite characters ever is Bubbles from the Powerpuff Girls. For that matter, there's no age limit on loving children's media in general. I'm a big ol' Muppets fangirl, and I adore Sesame Street and all of the characters on it. I'm also a lover of picture books! I've liked cartoons and children's media for the first 40+ years of my life - I expect I'll continue liking 'em for the next 40+ as well 🙂
Ultimately, beyond the "growing pains" of childhood, puberty, and the teenage years, people don't really change all that much as they grow older. I'd say by about 20 or so, your core personality is mostly set. If you like playing video games or watching cartoons or reading comic books... Well, you're probably still going to enjoy those things at 30 and at 40 and at 50... and beyond. And I think most people past their 20s understand that, because they've seen it happen with themselves.
But younger people often live under this delusion that one day they'll magically "grow up" and cast aside their child-like interests and traits and become old. They'll suddenly live for cooking and cleaning and child-rearing, and they'll thrive in a 9-5 work environment of water cooler conversations and golf on the weekends. That doesn't happen. It's a fantasy. Nobody ever "grows up" that way. We just add candles on our birthday cakes and become fatter and grayer versions of the same person we were last year.
So I absolutely understand the frustrations of being an older person in fandom - hell, being an older person in general. Young people are almost like a different species at times, because they take everything so seriously but they understand so little about how life actually works. And, of course, you can't tell them this, because they're certain they know everything and old people could never understand them - despite the fact that every single one of us was young once and understands all too well just how ignorant and terrified we were then.
It's that ignorance and fear that drives a lot of the "hate" towards older people online and/or in fandom. Seeing older people who haven't "grown up" and grown out of "childish" interests like cartoons or video games goes against that magical belief that one day they too will "grow up" and become a thriving, successful adult. It means either there's something "wrong" with that adult online who's actively participating in "young people" activities... or maybe there isn't a magical "growing up" phenomenon and they're going to have to try to acclimate to "adult life" as the person they already are.
At any rate, that's no excuse for the kind of bullying you're experiencing. It sounds to me like someone is spearheading a targeted hate campaign against you specifically and claiming you're a predator. That goes FAR beyond the usual age-related fandom squabbles and generational drama. Unfortunately, there's not much I can say or do to help you with this situation. Bullies do what they do because they like doing it. Their actions make them feel powerful and in control; they beat down others to ease their own anxieties and avoid having to deal with their own weaknesses and troubles. You really can't reason with a bully, because their motivations are far deeper and much more twisted than most people can understand. All you can do is avoid them and ignore them.
Easier said than done, I know. Especially as the number of bullies seems to grow every year and the Internet gives them a particularly fertile playground to wreak havoc and multiply in.
The best way to avoid age-related bullying in fandom is to be 100% up front about your age. Post it clearly in your bio/about section (if you have one) and make no effort to hide it. I understand the impulse to avoid the topic and just "blend in" with everybody else - but that rarely ever works. AND it's the same tactic predators DO use when they try to blend in with younger people to seek out prey. To some extent, it's healthy for young people to be leery of older people in fandom spaces who aren't upfront about their age.
Being up front about your age is especially important in younger fandoms/areas where young people are more common. Will being open about your age decrease the pool of folks willing to interact with you? Undoubtedly yes - but every one of those people who won't interact with you due to your age would be uncomfortable if they had been interacting with you and then found out your age. You're not losing a follower/friend, you're just helping people who wouldn't want to interact with you KNOW not to interact with you.
In that sense, you really can't worry about the followers you've lost. If they followed you believing you're a young person and they UNfollow when they find out you're not - Well, those are people who shouldn't have clicked the "follow" button in the first place, and likely wouldn't have if you'd had your age publicly posted on your profile in plain sight. In other words, you can't lose a friend you never had. And if they don't even know how old you are and/or refuse to interact at all with people your age... Well, then they ain't no friend of yours. No harm, no foul - let 'em leave.
As for your account... There's settings you can make on Twitter to limit who can interact with your tweets. I'd make good use of them and shut down avenues of interaction that aren't necessary for how you use your account. Shut off replies. Shut off DMs. If you're not interacting with people anyway, this shouldn't really affect how you use the site. Liberally block anyone sending you hate, and make a concerted effort NOT to look at anything they're posting. I know, that's hard to do, but responding to bullies is almost always NOT the best course of action. It only feeds them and stresses you.
Really, the best (only) way to deal with haters is to ultimately not give a fuck about them. Do whatever you like, whatever makes you happy... and fuck anybody who doesn't like it 🤷‍♀️ Of course, there's caveats to that - you can't just go around hurting other people or making it difficult for others to do what they like and find their own happiness... but as long as you're not doing that, well, fuck the haters. Let 'em stew in their own bile until they choke on it. I'm just assuming that last part is what happens to them, as I've never actually cared enough about a hater to check back with any of them. I just roll on in my "fuck the police" mobile and assume karma or gravity or Jesus will take care of them eventually 🤷‍♀️
If all else fails, post memes.

You Can't Tell Me What To Do...
It is actually quite comical how often I find myself having this conversation around social media and how I perceive it. Growing up watching TV shows like "Family Matters," "Full House," "The Nanny," and many other shows that aired in the 80s and 90s where the use of the internet was non-existent. Everyone once in a wild, I find myself going down memory lane and binging one or more of these series to escape the todays reality of advanced, high-speed technology, internet, and social media platforms. Solely looking at this aspect of this time period, this would be my ideal level of social media: none. Well, alright, maybe a little. However, I find myself thinking about the lack of control and the amount of freedom that they had from technology, let alone social media. The article "Before the Internet" by Emma Rathbone, put me in this same state of mind where I envision being free of technology and social media and the chains that it has on me.
Almost a year ago, I caved and created a Facebook profile. It wasn't something I really wanted to do but felt as if it were something that I needed to do for a variety of reasons. A major component of this was that my job entails me working and being active on Facebook. When I took over the reigns for the company that I am at, I was left no choice but to create and engage on Facebook. At our company, we use Facebook groups to communicate with staff at a high volume. For some events, we hire in up to 350 security guards to perform services. We have found that the best way to do this was by creating groups on Facebook. The thought behind this is that it allow us to communicate with everyone in real time and on a platform that an overwhelming majority of people are on very actively versus having people download an application that they have never used and having to teach everyone how to communicate using it at a high level in a short period of time. On top of that, I have to understand advertisement campaigns, algorithms, and more on Facebook to help make the company as popular as possible. So, on a day to day basis, I work on Facebook to promote our company, upcoming events, communicate with clients and staff.
When it comes to my personal life, I can see on every social media platform that I am a part of that they have mastered my algorithm. I see ads, videos, pictures, statuses and more that pertain to my lifestyle, ideals, hobbies, friends, and family. When I'm on my personal time, this can cause me to get caught going down "rabbit holes" on social media where I find myself on different platforms watching videos that have me stuck. Much like Max Stossels discussed in his presentation, I sometimes find myself thinking, "Am I using technology or is technology using me?" I found it bizarre that only 50% of teens believe that they are addicted to their mobile devices, per the presentation. I would've assumed that number was much higher.
The summer between Freshman and Sophomore year, I worked at a summer camp in Boyne Falls, MI where there was no cellular service for miles and we only had a limited wifi plan available that was designated for official office use only. It was different. It would feel weird when I would come home or go into town and reconnect with the world. There was always some big news that some new album dropped, a new scandal occurred, and someone new usually died. So it was hard to think everyone else was getting real time updates via the internet and social media yet we wouldn't hear of big updates for up to two weeks after they happened. It was hard only because I felt as if I was at a disadvantage compared to the rest of the world.
I would love to be able to use technology in a way that has a little more intent than it does right now. It is very often I find myself going on one of my devices to email someone back and then 10 minutes later, I'm on my third Facebook video and I still haven't sent that email. This happens all the time. So, in the future, I would love to have more control over this and other factors that draw us in like Max Stossels referred to. I would also love to not have to use my phone as a "safe place" when I'm entering situations that I am not comfortable in. I am extremely guilty of this and like Stossels said, many of us are. I would love to just embrace this level of awkwardness and not feel like I have to default to using my phone as a resource to protect me. I would love to be free of these chains.

States in the MCU AU
By the way I made this over a year ago and some of it is from a few months ago.
So I have this MCU state headcanon for the states particularly for New York because honestly let's face it he's the one that is literally the most involved in the MCU more than any other state I know there are other states in MCU and obviously, America exist and all the states exist but they're not really a relevant  anyway
New York is very pissed off at DC and GOV
Because of the whole bombing of New York City thing in 2012 during the battle of New York also has PTSD because of the battle of New York he says it was worse than 911
But he's actually pretty sure that the bad at the final battle with Thanos is the worst of it all that's because there's a giant crater in the middle of New York
During World War II all the states have actually met Steve Rogers and when he went into the ice New York couldn't accept the fact that Steve was considered gone until 2012 when he finally decided that he would just give up and accept it but then shield found Steve Rogers in the ice and filed him out
OK this second has nothing to do with the statehouse is it has more to do with  the MCU
So in endgame pepper and Tony are in somewhere in upstate New York or in somewhere in New York and not in the city and I would like to believe that they live at one of the finger Lakes or up in the Adirondack Mountains near one of the lakes up there
I would like to believe that is actually Lake George
OK so back to the state MCU Headcanon
New York is very grateful for the Avengers actually all the states are
All the states are actually huge fans of Captain America
George's favorite avenger is falcon/Captain America
They are fucking hate John Walker
New York Massachusetts Connecticut California Florida Texas are very pissed off at GOV.  For trying to fucking replace Captain America. New York yelled at GOV
I "this is for New York said and I quote" Oh my fucking God how dare you this kid is an asshole did you see the way he killed that guy.
he doesn't deserve to be Captain America. how dare you replace captain America who cares of the fucking country needs to help Sam motherfucking Wilson decided to put the shield in the museum and what are you do you take it out can you give it to this John Walker kid!!!!!! Why New York is yelling at DC/GOV California and Texas are trying to hold New York down
All 50 states and the five territories went to Tony's funeral
Cali was crying the whole damn time but not as much as New York.
Tonys funeral is the one time New York didn't hold back tears.
DC/Gov had a monument made for Tony.
It's a statue of Tony with a plaque that says "Earths mightiest hero." The statue is in Washington DC and in New YorkAnd there are a whole bunch of statues of Tony all over New York state mainly in the cities so Albany, New York city ,Rochester and Buffalo,Syracuse but the grand one is in New York City,
New York knows about Steve going back to Peggy and he approved of it.
New York regularly visits the captain America exhibit at the Smithsonian never mind him of Steve. When he's missing Steve he goes . ( he's learning to deal with his emotions in a more healthy way.)
Cali also has statues of Tony all over the state
Georgia loves falcon love Sam Wilson and he is glad Steve chose him as the new captain America and fuck John Walker
(Unlike Georgia I still say should've been Bucky it was in the comics he got the shield first) sorry about my little tangent there
Cali's favorite avenger is Black widow.
sorry that it was mostly New York I'm kind of biased because I live in New York state I know this fandom knows that New York is more than just a city and Tony died in New York so yeah and steps from New York so yeah
All the states hate John Walker and Gov likes John walker
New Mexico's favorite avenger is Thor we all know why
Jersey felt weird when Wanda made her little world thing to bring back vision escapism at it's best
And was more against himself than usual Hi let's do this
Steve and New York had a moment before Steve went back in time
New York:Steve you sure about this.
Steve: yes just keep an eye Buck for me and the kid.
New York: you know I will.Go to your soulmate.
And then they hugged. Steve went back in time returned all the stones went to live with Peggy
Tony left three final Messages one for the avengers and the rest of the world and one for the states and one specifically for New York and California and Tennessee.
Tonys Death Really Took a toll on New York's mental health but Cali was there for him.
For New York it just makes it worse that he's a state that Tony died in
Florida he is very sad about Tony death mainly because it's just sad that Tony had a little girl he won't be able to watch her grow up
They all know Peter's identity but they're not going to tell the world because they're in mortal and they're basically God's.
Texas has mad respect for The original six
Utah favorite avenger is Hawkeye because Hawkeye is a family man and Utah is a family Man.
Jersey was sick when Wanda was making her own hex thingy and he actually saw everything that was going on and the fact that he had national guard every organization in America and the FBI CIA all that the army.
—————————————————————-—
Outside MCU
New York about Florida and California: what the hell is wrong with you guys.
Cali: what do you mean.
New York: this marvel shows and all the mental health issues I mean first WandaVision and how Americans use sitcom's to escape reality.
Mass: yeah falcon winter soldier with the veterans and the fact that Bucky literally went to therapy.
Connecticut: Loki with the infirmary complex and probably your child abandonment issues and his daddy issues.
I was crying when I was making this.
Here’s some incorrect quotes
Florida: it's got to be part of The big three
Georgia: what big three
Florida: The big three
Georgia there's no big three
Florida :every time the avengers fight they fight one of the big three aliens androids and wizards.
Georgia: Wizards aren't real
Florida :Doctor Strange
Georgia: is a sorcerer
Florida: A saucer is a wizard without a hat
Georgia:
Florida: :D
———————————————————————
Georgia: like I know you miss Steve I am missing two do you have to MoveOn. I also know you miss Tony I think we all do no one's going to replace Tony the worlds greatest hero universe for that matter
New York : it's not as easy as you think.
Georgia: I know buddy Tony wouldn't want you to be sad he would want you to celebrate him he won't want you to be glad that he saved the world and discovered time travel to save the world.(sees New York About to cry)come on bring it in.
New York hugs him: I miss him Geo.
Georgia hugs back :I know Yorke.
Mass looting at Georgia in New York hugging : Man I never seen my little brother cry before.
Florida about to cry: I know it's so sad come on New York you're gonna make me cry[ joins the hug with New York and Georgia]
—-——-
Head canon
For the MCU
OK so during the final battle of Thanos or whatever it's called New York was in pain the whole time but at the same time he felt hole again because the blip made everything feel a little bit less whole
He was in pain it hurts really bad but also he knew it was avengers fighting because the same thing happened five years ago when the aliens invaded earth for the second time but also he was hurt and I have the same thing happened in 2012
he still has scars from it and also he still has scars from 911
It really hurt him so badly
—___________
New Jersey acting weird:do do do do do do WandaVision WandaVision Waba blah blah WandaVision WandaVision looking good and we knew it because Sampson and surprises come and ask you some sizes
California pointing at jersey: is he Ok
New York: probably not
Connecticut: oh no he's definitely not OK he's singing
Mass: since when do either of you care the fuck about jersey
New York: oh we don't care the fuck about the jersey
Connecticut: yeah we're just answering California's fucking question
Mass: yeah but you got a wonder what is going on with him
California: you know what I don't even fucking care anymore I don't even wanna know what's going on with New Jersey no it's not weird enough that you know you know what is normal you know this is normal weird stuff happens all the time I mean first Steve happens when Captain Marvel happens and then Tony because Tony Stark becomes a superhero when we thank God exist and then they find Steve again in ice for 70 years and then aliens attack New York city it couldn't get any weirder I'm over it.
Florida:I think it can't get weird or are we going to question the fact that nobody's fault in The abomination since it happened like what happened to abomination are we just going to nor the fact that Hulk didn't kill the abomination
Gov: yes we are going to ignore that factSpoiler warning for black widow in any of the MCU
Now we all know New York is a broken boy but I feel like in the MCU he's even more broken than he already. And the reasoning for it literally all the bad stuff that happens in New York City do you know the aliens the robots the wizards the big three
And also New York has to deal with the fact I've said this before and I'll say it again he hast to deal with the fact that he is the place where the universes mightiest hero died
In any AU I just feel like Georgia is the one that can get through to New York because Of their friendshipAnd Georgia's ability to communicate very well that's like his superpower also parenting is Georgia is super power
California would also be able to get New York but not as well as Georgia would be able too.
Ohio favorite Avenger is black widow because Natasha lived in Ohio
Florida is not as chaotic as New York is in the MCU I'm sorry but y'all know it's true
All right we're about to get into a serious topic you're not serious topic is hydra a.k.a Nazis
If you've seen Captain America first avenger you know that the first Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division or as we all know it as shield headquarters it's in Jersey which means New Jersey knew that hydrant was invading shield and just didn't tell anyone and so basically when shield was officially taken over by the enemy it's for you noob's is Hydro is the enemy literally the whole country is shunned New Jersey so nobody talk to him for like a year
OK we're going back to New York OK
New York's brother Massachusetts and Connecticut try to comfort him but they're not good and emotions either so they can't really help
Why do I feel like Massachusetts knew about Agatha
All right welcome to whatever this is
Massachusetts is very very very very very very concerned about what is happened to New York
Connecticut is just very worried about his little brother and his mental health but also like he lost half of his own population in the blip.
New Hampshire he's just chilling he's worried a little bit about New York
Vermont is very very very extremely worried about the person who is basically his dad which is New York
New York is worthy of Thors hammer but he doesn't think he's worthy he's kind a like Steve a lot like Steve and also because I said so
Main honestly I don't know what to say about the crap the lobster man he's afraid of the Hulk aren't we all though I mean let's be real here
Delaware very concerned about what happened in Westview New Jersey
Spoilers for Spider-Man no way home
New York still remembers Peter because they're mortal and they don't really get affected by that stuff by magic unless the magic is done by Louisiana or Massachusetts or whatever state knows how to do magic or country for that matter
Bye
Sorry for the bad grammar this is literally with no spellcheck

Every year we get the same drama about kink at pride and I think it’s a stupid fucking conversation and anyway here’s my opinions.
Personal context: I grew up going to groups at and working for a historic LGBT respite center that turned into an LGBT advocacy/support organization. I was also a cosplayer. These things overlapped from the time I was 12 until I was 16.
In LGBT groups, especially with older people, there’s always talk about sex. About who was dating who in the photos on the walls from the group 50 years ago. About who got arrested for indecency. About saying fuck it! Fuck it we’ll be indecent if we choose to be! Sometimes it came down to that: cishet people will always see us as inherently sexual. No matter what. Our symbols, communities, and events. Our friends, lovers, and found family. They see it all as sexual deviancy. To cishets we are deviants no matter what. So, lots of people took the fun route.
“Im a deviant? I’ll create a culture around it. A community. I’ll show my love exactly how I please.”
It’s self expression. It’s retaliation to years of being told we’re wrong. It’s fun!
To this day I consider myself so lucky to have been 13 or 14 and learning about sex and kink through a lens of self respect, consent, history, and confidence. At Pride and other events, even when hanging out with lgbt elders, I was hardly exposed to anything really inappropriate, besides a banana hammock or two. Of course people were naked, or doing kink stuff, or making out. But I had been taught to keep my distance and give them space. If I’d wanted to, I knew I was welcome to talk to them when I was older. I knew that what I did and who I did it with was my choice. It was, in a lot of ways, empowering and invaluable education.
On the other hand? As I cosplayer? Nearly the opposite.
I mostly attended video, comic, and anime conventions. I never cosplayed truly inappropriate characters. When I was 12 and 13 my parents vetted the characters, media, and con I was attending. But every single time without fail I would be subject to someone’s kinks at those conventions.
I loved getting attention for cosplays because I was a kid. I was 12-14, I was getting into sewing, and here were these older kids or adults telling me what a good job I did… it was exciting.
I barely have any photos left from that time, because I’m so mortified. People would ask me, barely 13 with a baby face and a handmade dress that went to my knees, if I would step on them or pretend to hit them or if they could hold me in an inappropriate way.
When I got older I learned to say no and I carried a pin that told people not to grab me without asking. I learned to cover up with a hoodie until the moment I took photos. Even then, if someone liked my character enough they would totally violate those boundaries.
I was a middle schooler dressed as a high school age character. There would be grown ass people buying and selling porn of my character and asking me to hold it for photos. It happened a lot with body pillows but a few times with doujin or posters. I had someone beg for me to hold a leash they were wearing for a photo. I would be grabbed, photographed, and have weird fucking fantasies projected on me WITHOUT MY CONSENT.
I’m not the only person I know who dealt with shit like that, and I’m avoiding going into any real detail because in hindsight, some of that stuff was pretty graphic. So anyway. I think it’s more constructive to talk about how sex is treated in fan spaces than it is to talk about how sex is treated in LGBT spaces.
Because personally? At one I’ve always felt like my autonomy mattered more than anything, and at the other, strangers turned me into a sex object.
So. Yeah.

“What the heart is full of, the mouth overflows. Stephen Dewaele of Soulwax is quick to talk anyway, but when it comes to DVDs, he shifts up a few gears. From 'The West Wing' to 'The Cremaster Cycle' to 'Triumph The Insult Comic Dog' – 'Sometimes I sitand watch and just think: What the fuck!'
I HAVE FOUR DVD PLAYERS: one in my laptop, one in my living room, one in my bedroom, and one in my bathroom. I wake up with it and I go to sleep with it – I usually watch it at night, after my daily news feed on BBC World, Nederland 3 and Canvas. I don't have much time, but I can easily get four or five DVDs a week. Sometimes it's more, sometimes it's less – it all depends on exactly where I am, and how busy I am. Series at the moment: The Sopranos are a poison, because they are insanely addictive. 'One more and then I'll go to sleep…' 'Another one to unlearn…' And before I know it, it's seven hours later and I have to get up again. With The West WingI had that very bad, almost sickly. Incredibly fascinating to see how American politics works – and it seems to be fairly truthful too, because the screenwriter was an intern at the White House under Bill Clinton. Oh, and do you know Arrested Development ? You should absolutely check that! It's about a filthy rich family in America and the humor is somewhat reminiscent of Curb Your Enthusiasm – also an incredible recommendation, by the way.
NO IDEA HOW MANY DVDs I HAVE EXACTLY, but I'm estimating a thousand or so. According to my girlfriend I'm a freak in the making - luckily it's not as bad as with records, but during our last tour I still bought 50 DVDs. In most I now also know exactly where I need to be in major cities. I'm going to New York For example, always go to a shop that specializes in weird stuff that you can't find anywhere. There I buy things like The Cremaster Cycle by Matthew Barney or bootlegs by Kraftwerk. Tokyo is also a great city to buy DVDs because you'll find a lot of things there that they don't have the rights to in Europe yet. Gainsbourg movies à la Cannabis or Le Pacha – I even bought a double DVD of Claude François once. That really annoys me with DVDs: all that hassle with those region codes and such. Isn't that of this time anymore? The entertainment industry really treats people like idiots. "All buy DVDs in your own region well" My DVD players are all multi-region – cracked by an acquaintance. Am I hurting someone with that? Oh no? Fortunately, we will be rid of that in a few years, because then everyone will be able to download their films. That can't happen fast enough for me – unlimited supply, minimal fee, everything directly on a memory card.
ON TOUR I ALWAYS MAKE A SELECTION FOR THE OTHERS. The last thing I showed was Triumph The Insult Comic Dog – a Late Night hand puppet with Conan O'Brien, extremely crude but implausibly funny. And everyone was also deeply impressed by Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy and Comandante, Oliver Stone's documentary about Fidel Castro. I don't put porn in such a selection, no, we have our own specialist on tour for that. But I usually find it incredibly boring – during Sexecutioners, a film we recently bought at the Reperbahn, I fell asleep during the first blowjob. (laughs) What I can recommend to everyone is the Criterion label. They release old movies on double DVDs with an incredible amount of extras – recently I bought The Man Who Fell To Earth with David Bowie. I buy almost everything from Criterion blindly, and some things I really wait for. For example, they urgently need to release a performance by Nicolas Roeg: Mick Jagger has a part and Ry Cooder wrote the soundtrack – I wrote my thesis about it at school at the time.
IF I HAVE ONE GUILTY PLEASURE, it's: DVDs from bad eighties bands, Tears For Fears and all that. A few months ago Tiga gave me Silver Blue Lining, a documentary about Duran Duran's heydays. The ego of those guys, who think they're on top of the world: fe-no-me-nal, ten times funnier than Some Kind Of Monster by Metallica. You're looking at that, and you're like, 'What the fuck? That simply does not exist!” – but it all really happens. Anyway, I watch a lot of music DVDs, even good ones. Recently: No Direction Home by Martin Scorsese, about Bob Dylan, and It's All Gone, Pete Tong, a kind of Spinal Tap about corporate DJs. Less interesting for people who have never been to Ibiza, perhaps, but very recognizable. I also find The Directors Series very impressive, with those DVDs from video clip directors. The first I had three volumes for a while – Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry and Chris Cunningham – and recently bought the collected clips of Anton Corbijn and Mark Romanek. What He Did To Hurtby Johnny Cash! That's no longer a clip, that's just… art. We ourselves have been brooding on a DVD for a while, I urgently need to discuss this with the record company. We have tons of footage just begging to be released – you'll be hearing from [rest of article cannot be accessed].”

I wrote most of this like, several months ago but didn't feel comfortable posting for a lot of reasons, but most those reasons are kinda irrational tbh and it's Fuck It We Ball Friday so I'm finishing it. I'm probably gonna want to private it at some point but like I refuse to, I will not do it, if I do I'm yelling at myself.
I miss my old friends :'(
Tumblr media
I mean I technically can, and sometimes do still talk to a lot of them, I haven't completely lost contact with all of them but like, I still don't talk to them nearly as much as I used to. To be fair a lot of the reason for that is entirely my fault, I'm literally in a Discord server with a majority of my old friends from RFCK but like, I rarely talk there because I (completely irrationally) feel weird trying to reconnect with them again after such a long period of going pretty much completely silent for like 2+ years.
I have WAY too many detailed memories of really specific moments and things from RFCK, like the time when I yelled at Happy for gambling and then got smited by god (Callum) after a nearly 2 hour long standoff. Or the 6.6 Lunchatons which were the biggest, most impactful events to ever happen in the entire server of course of course. Also I'm still the most based judge (I would NEVER be biased) and I would still gladly send any wretched bean enjoyers to prison for eternity (ew gross). Downtown bombing... ngl it was kinda overblown like it was kinda epic and funny. Kevin Race... :)
It's crazy because I don't really remember a lot of my life beyond a few years ago (for several reasons, likely little of which is due to actually having poor memory), so while I do have some memories from my early life, they're pretty sparse and vague. At this point a majority of my older memories that I've actually still retained are from RFCK, so despite it really only being like, a 2 year period of my life, it feels like one of the biggest, most impactful parts of my life.
I don't really have any plans to use my old OC for anything again, I feel like it's too connected with RFCK in my memories to ever use it for anything outside of Endless War, which tbh is kinda a shame because I still really like it, but like, I can just design a new OC :).
Tumblr media
Hey guys, DigiGurren MLP here, uhhh I forgot the rest of my own copypasta but hey guys it's me DigiGurren MLP!
I-I-I missed, I missed Cool Duck's Bible Study session, I'm so sorry Cool Duck I'll never make it into Cool Duck heaven now 😢
Tumblr media
Slime-Jim my beloved <3
I could probably make like 50 more posts of me just rambling on about random shit from RFCK because it's genuinely some of my best memories of my entire life and I remember way too many random obscure details and moments. But like, I probably won't, I may at some point make another post if I'm feeling particularly nostalgic over something specific from RFCK, but I think in general I'd prefer to keep it relatively separated from this blog, and I also don't want to constantly dwell on my memories of it, I already did that enough a few years ago.
Tumblr media
Yea I make a background cameo in an official Chris-Chan comic, yea that fact does make me want to rot in a hole.
Discord based text based mmorpg playable entirely within your discord browser or whatever the marketing line was i kinda forgot it. I didn't forget the server link tho, I don't think mtSRXek will ever leave my head at this point, those letters have just melded with my subconscious.
Tumblr media
Honestly if I had been the person I am now when I had joined the server 5 years ago, I probably wouldn't really like it that much, in hindsight there's a lot of stuff that went on that I was not really the biggest fan of, but I think it was overall balanced out by all the fun stuff, and I am 100% certain that I would be a significantly worse person today without it, assuming I would even be alive still had I not had such a great community at that time.
ALSO YOU FUCKERS (partially) MADE ME TRANS IT'S YOUR FAULTS (and also Umineko's fault)!!! FRICK YOU I HATE YOU ALL LICHERALLY DIE! got hit by one too many trans-beams and caught 3 too many trans breams le sigh 😔

◼️Flash Comics was an odd series because it was named after its main character, the Flash, but also featured another just as popular hero, Hawkman.
◼️The Flash's final story in Flash Comics #104 introduced a new villain called Rival who had the same powers as the Flash.
◼️Hawkman's final story in Flash Comics involved him using his detective skills to defeat a villain who pretended to have the secret to time travel.
In every Look Back, we examine a comic book issue from 10/25/50/75 years ago (plus a wild card every month with a fifth week in it). This time around, we head back to December 1948 to see the Flash's final story in Flash Comics.
One of the oddities of the comic book series, Flash Comics, is that unlike, say, Action Comics or Sensation Comics (which, when they launched, starred, respectively, Superman and Wonder Woman), Flash Comics was named after its title character, the Flash. This was a little bit awkward, especially when the Flash received his own solo series, like Superman and Batman, as those characters simply had their comics called Superman and Batman, but what do you call Flash's solo comic when the comic he's already appearing in is titled Flash Comics? They settled on the slightly unsettling All-Flash Comics.
In any event, the weird thing about Flash Comics to me is that the other superhero who debuted in the first issue of the comic was Hawkman, and over time, Hawkman grew just as popular, if not more popular, than the Flash, to the point where the Flash couldn't even really consistently get the cover of nominally his own comic, as the two heroes mostly split the cover duties for most of the run. Therefore, the Flash doesn't even appear on the cover of his final solo comic book issue of the Golden Age, December 1948's Flash Comics #104!

What was the Flash's first story in Flash Comics?
An interesting aspect of the Flash's debut comic book story is that after gaining super speed powers in Flash Comics (in a story by Gardner Fox and Harry Lambert), Jay Garrick went to his girlfriend, Joan Williams, and told her about them right away...
Tumblr media
Even when Jay became the Flash, he was open about his secret identity with Joan, which was definitely a lot different than most superheroes, but, you know, at the same time, these characters were all so new that there really wasn't a "standard" way of doing things, ya know?
Tumblr media
Okay, the reason I bring this up is because in Flash Comics #104, "The Rival Flash!" by John Broome, Carmine Infantino and Bernard Sachs, Joan reveals to Jay that she thinks that she actually might have accidentally spilled his secret to another student back in the day right after he told her about his new powers (it's fascinating to see a writer revisiting an old story back in 1948) after a new villain introduces himself as having the Flash's powers, calling himself "Rival."
Tumblr media
Jay goes to check out the other student, and while he appears to not know anything, the Flash is then attacked by Rival's henchmen, who all have super speed, as well!!
Tumblr media
Can we take a moment to give Broome a ton of credit for a great villain setup? I think there's a reason that the Rival name and concept was redone in the future, as it is really neat. Anyhow, after the gang captures the Flash, Rival shows up, and his costume is awesome - it's just the Flash's costume with a badass mask. He douses the Flash with super slow stuff...
Tumblr media
The Flash finds the "hard water" chemicals and re-exposes himself to them, which counters the super-slow stuff. The Flash then captures Rival, and reveals that it is his old professor!
Tumblr media
Luckily, the professor doesn't know Jay's secret identity! Joan, though, is chagrined enough that she vows to punish herself by writing over and over that she doesn't know the Flash's identity...
Oh, that Joan, so wacky!
Tumblr media
Interestingly, when Flash Comics #105 would come out almost a decade later, the same writer and penciler were on the adventures of the Barry Allen Flash!
What was Hawkman's final story in Flash Comics?
Even though he was on the cover, the fact that this was Hakwman's final solo story is typically given less attention than the Flash's final story (both heroes continued to appear as members of the Justice Society of America for a few more years). This story was also the final Golden Age solo story for another Flash Comics regular, Black Canary (thanks to reader Valentine for the reminder about Black Canary, and the note that while this was the Atom's last Flash Comics appearance, he DID appear in one more solo story a week later in another comic book).
Hawkman's story is definitely a bit less interesting than the Flash's. In "The Flaming Darkness!" (by artist Joe Kubert and presumably John Broome on the script), Carter Hall is part of a science club, and the scientist in charge of the club is being threatened to hand over the club's top secret scientific discoveries or he will be killed. He is threatened by a mysterious archer who appeared to have traveled out of time itself. The head of the club recognizes the voice behind the threat, so plans to report him to the police, but Carter offers to get Hawkman involved instead.
When Hawkman goes after the bad guys, he, too, is seemingly attacked by time-traveling beings...
Tumblr media
However, Hawkman figures out that they're just using a sort of hologram projector, and turns the trick on them by using a projection of a martian warlord from the future!
The scientist then admits the sad fact that the bad guy was his own brother...
Tumblr media
Bittersweet ending. By the way, since the bad guy was arrested anyways, why DIDN'T they just call the cops on him earlier?
Anyways, that was it for Hawkman's solo comic! Of course, he and Flash would be revived in the Silver Age (just with new characters using those names, until the Golden Age versions returned, as well).
