Look don’t get me wrong I love the PJO TV show. The cast is perfect and some moments that were added I absolutely loved. But… there are some things I felt were so well done in the book there was no need to change it and I’m a little disappointed by the adaptation’s version.
Some of these takes I saw from other people and it put into words what I was feeling so I’m just expanding on what they said.
1. Gabe could’ve been worse. We are supposed to get mean Smelly Gabe vibes and Sally isn’t supposed to feel comfortable standing up to him. I understand “girl boss” and disneys restrictions but it still wasn’t great. I’m hoping they add something towards the end so his murder feels deserved.
Edit: upon a rewatch I take this back and believe Gabe was still abusive, if not physically as in the book, but as manipulative and demanding which is still abuse so I actually appreciate the changes they made now.
2. Sally felt off. Like they read her plot points but didn’t understand her character. She is wholesome and kind and devoted to Percy. The Sally we know never would’ve put that much pressure on Grover, plus him putting the pressure on himself is vital to his character. They also made her seemingly pine for Poseidon. They shouldn’t have changed the way she described her relationship with him and the choices she made to keep Percy safe. (I will say though that the Jesus joke was perfect and hilarious)
Edit: upon rewatch I still believe the wholesomeness was lost a little but I have come to like her character more and think these changes allow for greater depth into Sally’s story which I’m excited for.
3. We should’ve gotten Percy remembering the warm glow of Poseidon. I thought it was important that Poseidon broke the rules and came to see Percy when he was a baby and had that memory.
4. Percy thinking that Annabeth looked like a goddess when he first saw her was so cute and said a lot about how he viewed her. I think they should’ve kept it.
5. I think Luke being the one to guide Percy around the camp was a great choice, but Annabeth should’ve been part of welcoming scenes. And Grover should’ve been the one to tell the story of Thalia.
Edit: Episode 3’s reveal of Grover’s story was genius I take this back!
6. The claiming in the book was perfect! There was no reason to change the dialogue or have the trident not be the way it’s originally described. And seeing the campers reactions/having them bow down was important. I was underwhelmed tbh.
7. Percy is SMART! He was the one to put together that Sally was alive and agree to the quest in order to get her back. There was no reason for Grover to be the one to do it.
Otherwise it was wonderful. I still love it immensely and the care into the heart of the show I feel is still there. I can’t wait for next week!
And yes, I know Rick wrote the episodes and was a part of every single choice that was made so if he wants to leave something out obviously he knows his story the best this is just my opinion.

pws/rinis are still going w the “pw and rini would’ve been endgame if it wasn’t for olivia” claiming “justice for ej” and just being bitter individuals is hilarious. they had a year to cope.
I think it’s a choice to still engage in a media you don’t like and being bitter about it and continue clinging to a statement that is untrue.
A thing I’ve learn from years of watching TV shows is that paying attention to the storytelling is essential and what has been true to HSMTMTS is that most of the times what you see it’s not exactly what the show is telling you. They're actually great with subtext. I've said this before, the typical audience for HSMTMTS severely lacks media literacy because they've missed the most obvious signs in storytelling 101 that I feel like an unbiased person would pick up on.
PWs/Rinis are only watching the show at face value because if they dig deeper they would be forced to admit the narrative build around Ricky and Gina has been stronger than any ship in that show. The effort and attention to detail build into their story line and dialogue is very telling. Rina gets the most foreshadowing and parallels out of every couple since Season 1. So, some be purposely misreading the signs and would hold onto any idea to make it true.
A creator of a show does not film a whole confession scene, in this case between Ricky and Gina (at the same time he filmed the Ricky and Nini confession) for a couple they are not planning. Everything in TV cost time and money. A creator doesn’t give a ship a whole secret plot that only them know to create suspense for a mid-season finale reveal if they aren’t planning on moving forward with them. After that flashback on 206 was revelead. It was a wrap. Truly, people that interpreted that as closure don't know how to read subtext at all.
The IRL drama + the hit hadn’t blow up yet when they wrote Season 2 and when they were filming the first episodes of the season. 201 already foreshadows how Ricky and Nini were not going to work out. I had said this several times. It was there on neon signs. Ricky and Nini were not build to be the "happily ever after" couple. There’s an actual interview from the creator saying he wants to portray realistic breakups in teen media.
Nini and Ricky were going to break up and end exactly how it ended at the end of Season 2, had Olivia stayed or not. PW was build to fail since day 1. There were multiple neon signs on 2B that literally tells you this. 209 is full of them. Gina used EJ to move on and because he was the easier route. He was the safest seat on the plane (literally). Gina hadn't moved on from Ricky. The fact that Ricky and Nini broke up on 208 and later Gina and EJ became basically the romantic plot on 209 is storytelling 101. I could tell you how this choice in narrative always ends up in teen dramas. Ricky and Gina were always the couple being kept apart for narrative and therefore the endgame.
Also, creators having to cut screen time of a ship or dynamic in order to build another one is never a good sign. They knew PW would not be believable if they keep Ricky and Gina interacting and Season 3 proves this.
And even if Ricky and Nini + EJ and Gina were the planned endgames when the show was originally created. Things change. HSMTMTS is not the first show that changes ships during filming the moment unexpected actors show superior chemistry and it won’t be the last. Dawson’s Creek says hello. It’s been told before Gina was going to be a plot device for Rini until her chemistry with Josh on 105 was too good to waste and so there were changes. PWs and Rinis conventionally forget this statement was made. Sofia Wylie was rooting for Rina since Season 1 and she has always delivered on that.
PWs (mostly ex Rinis) continue being bitter Rini isn’t endgame and use Olivia as their consolation narrative. The other side of PWs have EJ as their favorite character and have proved they don't care about Gina on her own. Rinis supported PW because as long as PW was a thing, in their minds Rini was still a possibility.

Let’s put our tinfoil hats on for a minute here.
The Suits showrunner did an interview over the summer about Suits and that he didn’t think Meghan would be interested in coming back or revisiting the work because she had retired from Hollywood. Now consider that she didn’t attend the last reunion the Suits cast had, sometime in 2023 - the message Meghan has been giving is “not interested.” So she probably was left off the original invite list for this official reunion, but she would’ve heard about it. If not through official channels at WME, then definitely through Abigail Spencer (if they’re still besties) or industry gossip.
And after spending the last 5, almost 6, years denying anything Suits — not even showing up to support the SAG-AFTRA and writers’ strike as her former cast mates were doing — it’s interesting that she now she is showing up for Suits. On a red carpet, naturally. And of course, while Meghan’s policy is that she never speaks to reporters because privacy, isn’t it so interesting that the one reporter she does talk to asks her about Suits, and Meghan totally gushes about it, saying:
“It was great to work on, such a great cast and crew. We had a really fun time. I was on it for seven seasons, so quite a bit.”
Someone’s feeling left out.

We both deserve to see this through… boss.

So I’ve been a black butler fan since middle school when some girls at a summer camp were reading one of the curry arc volumes and then I decided to look up the show. I loved it. Season 1 anyway. And I still do. It’s got problems, I wish the angels were integrated into the story better, the Queen’s motives are kinda weird and I don’t completely get it, there’s a wasted opportunity with a certain cult leader that dies before we can get a reaction out of Ciel which sucks ass, and I think Aberline, while he was made into a great tragic character, I wish he would’ve gotten more development before the episode he died. You sorta get hints in prior episodes but when the one he dies in happens it’s basically like a giant neon sign over his head saying, “I’m gonna die in 10 minutes.” But I do love how delightfully tragic his final moments are.
“You do have a chance Ciel. Don’t ever forget that.”
“But I don’t… because I gave it all away.”
But overall season 1 was unlike anything I’d ever seen as a tween and it’s ending was incredibly satisfying.
Which is why it annoys the hell out of me when I see people trash it for the crime of not following the manga. Not even the “I didn’t like what they did with the plot.” No. The issue I see most often is it specifically wasn’t accurate to the source material and therefore it’s bad.
It was 2008. The circus arc wasn’t even done yet. To fill the episode quota they were gonna have to do filler. And unlike other filler arcs in anime the writers bothered to end the story instead of leaving us on a cliffhanger. I applaud them for that.
Granted it contributed to s2 being such a clusterfuck but still. Ciel had a decent character arc. It wasn’t popular just because the manga was amazing. It was popular because it was one of like 5 anime where the anime original material wasn’t ass and it’s ending was good. Also in stories like this you expect the protag to weasel their way out of the tragic but inevitable conclusion. But the final episodes of the series are specifically about Ciel coming to grips with his impending death. And then it actually happened.
I get it, it’s annoying to have to explain to fans that you only need to watch half of s1 in order to follow the book of circus-book of Atlantic adaptations but ffs that’s on the producers of those anime for not starting from the beginning and just hoping whoever watches will still be surprised when the undertaker’s grim reaper reveal happens. Not on the first anime for only adapting what existed and telling their own story based on what info they had.
Only in anime would you be expected to watch part of but not all of a different tv show or read a manga in order to understand the plot.
Anyway just had to defend one of my favorite shows here.
Feel free to argue with me.

TOS in Beloved Retrospect
A GREAT Show that is absolutely canon! But I’m Taking the Rose Colored Glasses Off
Listen, it’s no secret that I absolutely ADORE Star Trek: The Original Series. It’s easily in my tied top 3 with SNW and DS9.
But you know what?
I am so, incredibly SICK of people treating it like a sacred document whenever literally any show that’s set before it does almost any plot point that’s even tangentially related to it.
Let’s take off the holy pedestal for just, two seconds please I am BEGGING you.
Star Trek TOS is an episodic show from the 1960s and the showrunners (including Roddenberry!) had NO IDEA, at all, was going to spawn an absolutely massive, beautiful scifi universe that’s practically a genre unto itself.
Even when they made a second series they tried to get away from TOS with the century time jump! Some creators going so far as to want it to never have existed at all, at least briefly, like, uh, Gene Roddenberry.
I can safely say I and many others are VERY glad TOS never got decanonized, but some facts still remain.
As a result of time, The Original Series is very much limited by when it was made. Such as!
In it’s cultural attitudes to minorities and women, see: the POC and female characters not getting any major plot lines until after TOS.
Literally one of the first things that got disregarded by pretty much all other Star Treks that take place before and after is that women can’t become captains (like wtf was that about?? Oh wait, it was the 60s 🙄). It was literally like, the peak of sexism, and cloaking devices existing before the Romulans showed up that get decanonized the first chance they had (it’s literally been happening since Enterprise and people freak out about invisible ships, every time).
In the fact that because it was exclusively, extremely episodic, every episode was the first time anybody ever saw anything because they had to introduce it to the audience without confusing them and making them turn off the TV or change channels.
Do you know how many times I, a Zillenial who grew up with a mix of episodic/serialized shows, had to suspend my disbelief because if this show was any less episodic the main characters would’ve learned their lesson already from a previous episode or would still be processing the trauma of a previous episode? So many! Watsonian explanations galore!
It was TOS movies that changed the Klingon character design with no explanation. Every time there’s an evil double of Kirk or he gets possessed the crew reacts like it’s never happened to anybody before! Kirk convinces a computer to kill itself like eight times and every time it’s like “oh wow look how smart Kirk is getting a computer to commit die”. Kirk loses his brother, his sister-in-law AND his love interest within the span of two episodes and is totally fine afterward! And you know what? I’m ok with that because I have a brain cell and recognize the show was created before serialized television got even a bit popular!
Third of all technology! Listen I hate all that touchscreen chrome color pallete stuff too! I’m also not, never have been, and never will be a technobabble guy! I’m so happy that the Enterprise is still colorful and has buttons and stuff! But ultimately, TOS was a 1960s conception of 250 years of progress, and it came up a little, even VERY short at times (so do all the other Star Treks, you can’t predict progress with 100% accuracy).
So if the tech is better than say, not much more fancy than a submarine in space, I’m willing to give it a pass. Star Trek has been making up and then immediately forgetting/disregarding some completely world altering technobabble from a single episode or movie since the beginning! The tech is a means of storytelling, and it’s clearly not a limitation because people are always changing or ignoring it! It’s only pure vomitous rancid evil when “NuTrek” does it right?
If you take all three of those HUGE things into account, TOS has, by far, the most tissue paper thin delicate canon of all of Star Trek. Quite frankly I would MUCH rather enjoy exploring the 2200s without walking on incredibly fragile eggshells regarding technobabble details or certain alien encounters.
It’s not like Federation ships have cloaking devices in the 2260s or that the SNW crew is out here fighting off Romulan boarding parties or sipping Meridor with the ruler of the Gorn Hegemony. They’re toeing the line to explore familar concepts in a new format (like serialized short form TV) and like, that’s fine! For crying out loud the Ferengi popped up in an Enterprise episode and most people tend to regard that as funny without ripping their hair out!
Have there been some changes to canon I’m a bit lukewarm about (see, the Gorn being as xenomorph-adjacent and unsympathetic as they were in All Those Who Wander) sure, yes, absolutely! Do I think it obliterates the canon of TOS, in which the Gorn only show up in a single episode with very little and vague lore around them? No!
The Doylist explanation, even if it hurts, is that a lot of meta aspects of TOS are falling out of favor or otherwise obsolete. NOT the stories or the characters for certain, but other fundamental building blocks are frozen in the context they were created in. Trying to adhere to them would severely limit any writer trying to explore that era of Starfleet’s history. So the writers are going to adapt to the spirit if not the precise letter of TOS’s canon.
The Watsonian explanations are numerous, but my favorite interpretation (which you don’t have to like, but maybe it’ll help) is that TOS is still fundementally canon, but the elements that make it inconsistent with other treks or with modern expectations for representation and technology are the result of a “universal translator” sending the truth about our future being translated into a way 1960s audiences could understand. Which is ultimately, kind of what Roddenberry’s desires were in the first place, to show us a better future within the confines of what was then modern TV.

Whatever you have been waiting for someone to ask but nobody has asked it for some reason
Johnny Test isn’t lazy or hackney, stop listening to animation brats with no taste.
There’s a lot of heart and a lot of love poured into it and a lot of the decisions derided as “hack” are intentional and have artistic merit. Like, the whip crack is done deliberately because Scott Fellows loves the hyperactivity of cartoon sound effects. They also appear just as frequently in Neds Declassified and Big Time Rush.
If you want a nice, easy, pleasant cartoon experience the reboot is 2 seasons long on Netflix. Every episode is 11 minutes and it’s the apex of good modern kid tv. Funny, easy, stimulating, and sweet. Or go back and watch the original since that’s on Netflix too! And there’s some great characters and arcs and moments!
It’s also like, weirdly trans positive in the strangest places. Johnny makes an off comment about feeling comfortable in a skirt to his dad and despite his clear hesitance he legit just says “well you know I’ll support you no matter what”. It’s a lead in to a joke about Johnny pulling a fast one on the Girl Scouts but it’s a moment that I swear I don’t think I’ve seen any media do well when trying to be trans positive. Also, Brain Freezer once says the line “I don’t know I just feel like if I had been born a girl I would’ve been nicer” and no one questions it so like
Transfem Brain Freezer arc when?
Where was I going with this?
Oh yeah. Be nice to Johnny Test damn it’s a good show and Scott Fellows deserves more love and respect.

Ranking + Mini-reviews of All the DHMIS TV Episodes
Tumblr media
Two important things to note before we start:
DHMIS is an amazing series, and as such there are no episodes that I’d say are bad, or even mediocre. This isn’t an S to F-tier ranking, this is an S to B-tier ranking.
Because all episodes are great in their own right, everyone’s going to have their own opinions on which ones are the best. These are just my personal picks.
With that said, going from worst to best:
Episode 3: Family
Tumblr media
Starting us off is Family. While I still like this episode a lot, I do have to put it at the bottom of the list for a few reasons.
First, most of the episode is spent in Lily and Todney’s house, which means there’s not as many of the beautiful sets that the rest of the series provides. This episode also didn’t have many stylistic shifts—the only one being a brief moment of Deep Dream AI rendering. Most people may not mind this, but as someone who’s always loved the artistic elements of DHMIS, this was a bit underwhelming.
Secondly, I found this episode to be a bit messy structurally. For example, Bird gets kicked out first, so he has a long sequence talking about how he doesn’t want to be in a family... that goes absolutely nowhere. Likewise, Red’s arc felt like it had a lot of build-up but little payoff, while Yellow has the least motivation yet the biggest payoff (this may be because early concept art shows Red being the last one standing; Yellow was a good swap thematically, but it feels like they needed to swap the two’s motivations as well).
And finally, while the “found family is more important than biological family” moral is always lovely to hear, it is mostly outright stated; I feel like the best episodes simply allow the viewer to infer the moral for themselves (if they have one). Furthermore, the episode doesn’t offer much commentary on families beyond this basic idea.
With that said, this episode has a lot of great moments in it, including the entire climax with Roy and the funniest moment in the entire show at the end. But comparing it to all the other episodes, this is the one I personally got the least out of.
Episode 4: Friendship
Tumblr media
While enjoyable, this episode has some issues in the message department. The whole “your friends don’t hate you, it’s just the worm in your brain talking” thing is great moral, and speaks to everything from depression to intrusive thoughts.
However, the execution is a bit botched. Red and Bird’s jackassery has been cranked up to 10 in this episode, to the point where they feel slightly OOC (such as swearing at Yellow, which is the only time they’ve done so). Thus, when Yellow assumes his friends hate him, it’s less of a “worm in your brain” kind of thing and more of a... logical assumption. The whole thing’s a bit confused and many will walk away with a slightly sour taste in their mouths despite the hilarious ending scene. Other episodes do a much better job of establishing the trio’s love-hate relationship.
The analogy also falls apart because Yellow makes this assumption on his own; Warren has little to do with anything, and Yellow becomes upset long before he enters his brain. It would’ve made more sense if Warren went into his brain to retrieve the password, only to realize that Yellow’s brain is great for ego-stroking. Thus, he convinces Yellow that Red and Duck hate him so he can stay there or something like that.
Another thing is that while most of the TV episodes feel like their own thing, this episode felt like a less effective version of DHMIS 3 (Love) from the original shorts. Both involve Red and Duck upsetting Yellow, who runs away (either psychically or metaphorically) and encounters an insect who teaches him about some interpersonal relationship before his friends show up and apologize and there’s a plot twist that makes you question the reality of the situation. But in 3, the situation that upsets Yellow is far more minor, the apology is more heartfelt, the moral is stronger and much more nuanced, etc.
However, this episode does have a lot of enjoyable gems in and of itself. Warren perfectly captures being a bad friend and is the worst thing Ever, Colin’s appearance was fun as were the brain friends sequences, and I liked the moral they were going for as well as the slightly surreal moment at the “the worm in your brain has a worm in its brain” part (to the point that I kind of wish they leaned into that more for the ending instead of the chainsaw fight). It’s a good time; it’s just up against stiff competition.
Episode 2: Death
Tumblr media
This episode was great overall, and it has a lot of good stuff going for it. I love the commentary on how grief and loss is handled by society and the problems it can cause, the coffin’s probably my favorite teacher out of the bunch, and the comedy was fast-paced and effective.
So why isn’t it ranked higher? It’s mostly because the horror/comedy balance feels off. In most episodes, you get a good blend of both; but in this episode, you mostly get comedy and nothing else. There are one or two eerie moments—I liked the scene with Yellow and Red saying it was just them now “until the other guy comes back” with a close-up on Duck’s empty chair, as well as the scene with the mourners—but they don’t hit as hard as they could.
I think the big problem are the scenes with Duck in the coffin. Red and Yellow’s A-plot is where the commentary is, and where the hardest-hitting moments of this episode come in. However, while doing nothing after you die could be existentially terrifying, ala the ending to the original DHMIS 2, it ends up just being funny shenanigans here. And I like funny shenanigans; but I feel like the humor kind of distracts from the deeper, subtle moments of the A-plot, which shouldn’t be the case.
For example, I feel like Yellow digging up Duck would be a lot more impactful if the coffin left earlier, and Duck was starting to rot more. This would add more a lot more tension to the climax, as there’d be something at stake on Duck’s side rather than solely Yellow’s. Likewise, seeing Yellow try to drag around a rotting corpse and convince himself its still alive would’ve been really haunting.
also I have to subtract a point for the piss scene
Like I said at the beginning though, this is still a super fun episode with a lot going for it. It’s just that 20% too much comedy that prevents it from ranking even higher.
Episode 1: Jobs
Tumblr media
Episode 1 is the very first episode to kick off the new show, and I’d say that it was a good pick—it’s the one that’s arguably the closest to the original series in terms of plot (a teacher shows up, sings a song that (technically) lasts the entire episode, and the trio ends up traumatized).
On top of being similar to the shorts, it also happens to just be a strong episode in general. The humor is great as always, and there are a fair amount of horror elements in there.
My favorite part of the episode is definitely the commentary on capitalism. Being promised a bunch of good jobs before being saddled with a terrible one, the HR people that are more concerned with making people useful to the company than helping them, the way the laziest people get the highest positions, the “blink and 40 years have passed” thing, the meager pay at the end (which is later referenced in episode 2)... it’s all really great stuff, and is delivered subtly in a way that really sticks with you.
My only real complaint is that the bathroom scene was mostly pointless (side note: has anyone else noticed that Yellow address the audience in the first two episodes and then never again?), and the beginning is a bit slow. Outside from that, it’s pretty perfect.
Episode 6: Electricity
Tumblr media
DHMIS 6 was my second favorite out of the original shorts, so it shouldn’t be surprising that the last episode gets the same spot here. This episode is pretty amazing—not only do we get introduced to Lesley, but there’s an overwhelming sense of dread throughout the episode that leads to some truly terrifying scenes. As an added bonus, we get some wonderful character development for Yellow that hits especially hard if you happen to be neurodivergent.
The only reason I rank this as the second best episode instead of the first is that it doesn’t feel like as satisfying of a conclusion as DHMIS 6. Lelsey’s reveal doesn’t hit as hard as Roy’s because we don’t know who she is or what her motivations are, and we only get a vague idea of what’s going on by the end of the episode. One could argue this is the point—they do shred the book, after all—but it makes it feel much less satisfying as a conclusion.
And this is more of a minor thing, but it’s also strange that after Red’s mental breakdown in the last episode, he’s right back to normal in this one. It’s possible this was intentionally reflecting the “reset” nature of the universe in this series, but it really undermines the horror of 5 a bit and feels like a missed opportunity for character development. If they wanted to go the reset route, I feel like it could’ve been driven home harder than it was, as it feels more like a continuity error as-is.
With that said however, this is still an incredibly strong episode with some of the series most poignant and haunting moments. It’s only slightly beaten out by...
Episode 5: Transport
Tumblr media
While the entire series is a masterpiece, this episode in particular Is A Masterpiece. There is scientifically nothing wrong with it. Everything here just works.
First, I love the plot direction. Instead of the teacher showing up and sticking around like we’re used to, they instead just keel over and die immediately, and the trio hijack their corpse to kickstart the plot. It’s refreshing, and adds a sense of unpredictability to the plot.
And on top of that, despite being one of the only times that events take place primarily outdoors, Transport has the greatest sense of dread and claustrophobia out of all the episodes. Watching Red slowly reach his breaking point and become more and more frantic until it ends with the reveal that there is nothing out there is haunting, especially with the little Lesley tease at the end.
It also throws some additional bits of horror in there—Yellow Guy’s dream abruptly ending with him getting hit by a car hits particularly strong, being viscerally realistic. However, it also has some incredibly funny moments (read: the entire sequence with Time Child). The trio’s chemistry is strong in this one, the puppetry with the car is great as are the two stylistic shifts, and the songs are good. You can’t go wrong with any of this series, but if I have to pick a favorite, this one’s the clear winner.

Shovelwarewolf Season 1 Review
Ah, Season 1. It’s definitely the weakest season of the show, but there’s a certain charm to the low budget and short episodes. For these reviews I’m just gonna break it up into categories and than give it an overall score.
Episodes:
Horrorland: Solid opener, had some weird quirks like SWW biting the tv. It takes a little while for Ivan to turn which is nice, helps introduce the character.
Nat Geo: Not much to say, the narrator slays me.
Ski Doo: Not much else to say, I love his description of the buttrock. That guy with the banana befuddles me to this day.
Six Flags: Pretty funny. The lil Donald Trump joke was funny (never stop making fun of him). I like his rant about moving the Wiimote. Also it ties into the next episode which is neat.
Duck Dynasty: Ah yes the mega shovelwarewolf everyone thought would come back at some point. Duck Dynasty the game is one of the funniest games of all time in my opinion. “John Luke, FORGIVE ME!!” Also the “Oh That’s Not Good” track sounds a lot like Stranger Things (probably the synth).
Rudolph: I love this episode. Santa has the greatest villain arc. SWW mimicking the Abominable Snowman gives me life. I also like the the little Carol of the Bells at the beginning.
Music rating: I also figured I’d rate the music used in each season since AJ wrote some pretty good tracks for this series. Plus I have strong opinions on the different variations of the opening and transformation themes.
Season 1 opening: I love it, very subdued compared to later ones. But this is a great composition of music that works any way you do it. Specifically I love the piano in this variation.
Season 1 transformation: Again like the last one, very subdued, I like this one fine it goes a little fast but uses the piano similarly to how the opening did which works really well.
Oh That’s Not Good: Like mentioned above it sounds a lot like Stranger Things in the best ways. I love how it’s used in the scene transition to show Ivan’s hopelessness. Great piece.
Trepak: Not an original piece, just a public domain song used in the Rudolph episode. It works for the scene but I don’t have much to say.
Couch Gag: This season’s couch gag was very simple, just SWW drawing on the whiteboard (on his stomach I guess?) I love it for its simplicity and just thinking of Ivan trying to pass the time in any way possible. I wish we could’ve seen what he would’ve drawn for Duck Dynasty.
Overall: This season was alright. It’s only the weakest since it hasn’t been thought as through as the later ones were and the production value is just a little bit lower. I think it works and provided a great platform for the amazing seasons we got down the line.

15 Questions/15 People
@theearlgreymage @johnwgrey @artsyunderstudy @shrekgogurt @raenestee @yellobb @you-remind-me-of-the-babe @cutestkilla @facewithoutheart @prettylightsbigcity @thewholelemon @fatalfangirl @aroace-genderfluid-sheep thank you all so much for tagging me! I have loved getting to read your responses and learn more about you all 🥰
Are you named after anyone? Nope. Although if I’d been assigned male at birth, my parents would have named me Ross after Ross Poldark because they were big into Poldark during the original tv series and owned the books. I grew up in the nineties when my only reference points for Ross were: Dress for Less and Geller from Friends, so I don’t think I would’ve liked having that name. My sister would have been Tristan after the character from All Creatures Great and Small. Makes me feel so old knowing both of those shows were recently revived…
When was the last time you cried? Thursday when I found out a very lovely someone made one of my fics into an actual book because they loved it so much they wanted to have a physical copy to read! (I don’t know if they’re okay with me saying who they are so I am being intentionally vague.)
Do you have kids? No. Please do not make me be responsible for another human life.
Do you use sarcasm a lot? I don’t think I know how to have a conversation without it.
What’s the first thing you notice about people? I have no idea.
What’s your eye color? Brown. I think I’ve had them described as root beer brown before?
Scary movie or happy endings? Happy ending
Any special talents? I’ve always been a pal of few words (verbally), but I know how to make them count for comedic timing. My grandpa called me a pistol when I was like 2 or 3 and I made my sister spit take so often at the dinner table, everyone in my family told me I should become a comedian.
I can read backwards. When I focus on it, I can talk backwards too—whole sentences not single words. I always thought it would be fun to try to have conversations, but idk who I’d talk to?
I’m ambidextrous.
Where were you born? About thirty miles from here.
What are your hobbies? My main hobby at present is just fandom. Writing, making art, reading, discord, tumblr... it all revolves around Snowbaz and the fandom. If I’m not doing any of that, I’m probably descending slowly into madness from not knowing what else to do with myself. Like. What do people do? I used to tap and I used to play drums. I enjoy baking but my kitchen is too small to make it worth my while most of the time.
Do you have any pets? Not at the moment. I had two cats who were my babies. Mr. T, who passed away in 2018, and Batgirl, who passed away in 2020. I think I’m feeling ready to get another cat, but I can’t have pets in my apartment and also I don’t think I can afford to take care of an animal.
What sports do you play/have you played? I briefly played basketball in sixth (?) grade. But I got freaked out when we were going to start playing in actual games so I dropped out. I played soccer for one year, was always put in the goal, got bored, and picked at the grass as my entertainment. I did try volleyball and badminton but never went anywhere with either. I was always told that I had swimmers shoulders, but was too scared to try the swim team. I really don’t like athletic competition, it would seem.
How tall are you? You know, when I was a little kid, some test said I was going to be 6’7”. I…am not. 😂
Favorite subject at school? Fuck me. English? I have a degree in it, so let’s say that. Actually, it was probably Book Arts in college. I remember dreading the work of school, but loving the rush of academic success. So maybe the real answer is, whatever I was doing best in.
Dream job? This is what is known as an oxymoron. Honestly, my current job is pretty ideal as jobs go: I walk to work, I have a four day week, I’m union, I’m pensioned, I’m hourly, I work for my city government so it’s non profit and I know there’s a point to what I’m doing, my boss is very hands off, and I have free time for...tumblr tag games.
Tagging to share if you want or to say hi if you don’t. Unicorn: Warriors Eternal - Episode 2
I watched Unicorn: Warriors Eternal episode 2. I watched the first one on youtube and didn't know the second was out. But now I caught up on the series.
Tumblr media
The great things from episode 1 still remain. So let's start with the ''negatives''. Let's go from the smallest ''problem'' to the biggest one. The reason why I used '' '' is because those things didn't bother me too much. But they might be for some people and it's worth addressing.
1. I know there are people who would love to see an entire episode dedicated to Edred/Dimitri and Alfie/Seng, because the first one was pretty much about Emma/Melinda. I personally don't mind because Emma/Melinda had to share her screen time with the lore and the setup for the story. Also, I hate when stories drag on for no reason if they don't have enough backstory for an entire episode add something else important! I think they implemented introductions to Alfie/Seng and Dimitri/Edred. Also, it's not like it's over. Their current and previous lives fighting for dominance seem to be a major part of the story. We just have to wait and see. Hope it's not a letdown.
Tumblr media
2. The voice acting. I don't know if the voice actors for Emma and Alfie are young and inexperienced or if they try to put on an accent and they can't keep it and act emotionally at the same time but something's not right. When Emma is quiet and shy the voice actress fits perfectly but when she needs to shout, it's as if she doesn't want to wake her parents in the next room. And when Emma and Alfie have their Rush Hour 3-like comedy routine it's like they just reed lines and don't talk to each other. Dimitri/Edred has the best voice actor because he actually can emote and his voice is nice to listen to. This is great because it seems he's the one who's going to do a lot of talking with his personality and being the one who has to explain a lot of stuff because he for some reason can remember more than the others. (I will write about it later.) I've seen people upset that after his transformation he lost his Russian accent. I understand. In the limited time he was on screen Dimitri charmed a lot of people and out of all characters, he looks the least like his original self. He only kept his outfit. But I think it can be a great indicator of who is talking. If it's a Dimitri who's in control we will hear his accent. At least I hope so. It would've been a waste if they didn't use it. All in all, I don't mind and it should get better as the series goes on.
Tumblr media
3. Timeline? The only date we have been provided is 1772. That's when the school for orphaned boys has been established. We have no idea how long it's been active and how long it's been abandoned. It can be the 21st century with steampunk coating for all we know.
youtube
4. My biggest problem with this scene is how confusing it is. Emma is watching Winston play against the boys from the school for orphaned boys. I guess they let boys of all ages play because Alfie is referred to as just a kid even after who knows how much time has passed since then. In all the information about the show, the word teenagers keep coming up. I don't know about you, but for me, a teenager is a person from the age of 13 to 19. You know? The -teen part! Emma was about to get married so I assume she's 18 at least. I guess Dimitri is 18/19 because he must be old enough to travel on his own. Unless he had run away from home.
Just out of curiosity, I googled marriage in 18th-century England. These are the results!
Until 1823 the legal age in England for marriage was 21 years for men and women although after 1823 a male could marry as young as 14 without parental consent and a girl at 12 although most girls didn't marry until around the ages of 18 to 23.
And there you have it folks! The show takes place after 1823 and Emma is around 18/19 years old. But hey, it's just a theory. A TV show theory! And cut.
Tumblr media
This episode was fun. I have to admit I feel kind of smug knowing I predicted the love triangle. Wait is a triangle if there are 5 people in it? Emma loves Winston, Melinda loves Edred, and Dimitri might have some attraction to Emma/Melinda but he could've just been nice. .) Shipers, your time has come!

Hi to start off I love your story- sorry for not commenting on it much I’m just lazy and just press the link as soon as I see it and forget to log into my account- so to sum up any possible comment I would’ve made: this is my favorite avatar fic (not one of them - it just is my favorite) and you write everything so well.
Questions:
1. Gotta start with the one everyone’s dying to know- is neteyam gonna die? Or will there be any major character deaths?
2. What inspired you to write this
3. Are you gonna write any more fics in the future? If so what are some ideas you have
4. What are some other fandoms you’re into and possibly wanna write for?
5. What are some hobbies you enjoy?
Hiya babes~ that is completely fine about commenting, I know I get the same way sometimes but I'm glad to know you're loving it. And it's your favourite?!?! Even over greats like Half-Alive???? I'm honoured and touched and sending a massive squdge (hug) to you thank you!!!! <333333
Questions are answered under the line~
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I'm guessing a lot of people want to know about this. Em, I'm going to go ahead and say there will be major character deaths, but not the ones you expect. In my cranium, there's going to be two big bits of confrontation; the ship (which we all knew was going to happen) and the final big battle (debating whether to write this properly, or to pan over it and hit the aftermath). So there will be loads of intense things that will lead to some major character injury too but, fear not, I'm not cruel enough to axe off extremely important characters (looking at you Cameron) but I can't say any more because of spoilers!
2. Well that's an easy question because bestie and all around amazing idea creator @be-the-glenn-to-my-maggie came up with the idea of the humans leaving Pandora and never coming back, and then mentioned Eywa blessed Spider and my brain went 'huh good idea mine now'. And I was already looking for something more to write about Spider because the inspiration muse has had me by the throat since January and isn't letting go.
3. Good question!! I will always write fanfiction, even when I've published my original ideas because it's an amazing creative outlet and a great way to practice new ideas. Bestie @be-the-glenn-to-my-maggie came up with an ikran racing au because of an ask I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) and again my brain just went yes so that might be in the works after ftnadol. But at the moment there isn't anything concrete, but when something comes I'm sure it'll whack me upside the head XD
4. Oooooo other fandoms. Well Stranger Things is a big love of mine (I actually have a Steve x Male OC fic which has been gathering dust which incorporated Irish Mythology that I need to resurrect), as is Star Wars, and Umbrella Academy, and Marvel, gosh there's loads to count up. In terms of what I'd like to write for, maybe dipping my toes into Percy Jackson? Because of the TV show? OR! Spider verse because Miles is my boy. I'm not entirely sure though because I never quite know until an idea does suddenly pop into my brain. Haikyuu might be something to try, but who knows! Certainly not me~
5. Ooooo interesting well! If you didn't know I play two instruments; harp and violin, so music is a massive part of my life. I teach swimming some evenings, and absolutely love to do it recreationally. I game, and am very excited for Spider-Man 2. I'm also self teaching myself korean, which is very fun and interesting because I'll be able to understand half the music I listen to XD of course, this is also whilst writing up a storm every week!
Thank you bestie for your questions!! <333

Bogie Time: The Jeering of the Jesters - 13
Writer: Akira
Season: Summer
Characters: Hajime, Mitsuru, Nazuna, Jun, Hiyori, Ibara, Nagisa
Proofreading: royalquintet (JP) & Sophie + Skyress (ENG)
Translation: nazunyan427 & haranami & hyenahunt
Hiyori: "One morning, while Nazuna-kun was still half asleep, he mistook me as his very own pet rabbit and—"
Tumblr media
Time: A few days later. The final day of Bogie Time — the Minigame Decathlon
Hajime: (...So much for all that. Ah, I sure sounded full of myself.)
(Of course I’m too caught up in everything around me to worry about anything else on top of that!)
(Ugh, why am I like this?!)
Jun: "Alrighty! Today's finally the last day of Bogie Time, so we'll spend all of it playing mini-games!"
Hiyori: "And that's the kind of program Bogie Time originally was: a show where up-and-coming idols endlessly battle it out in minigame matches."
"In this way, it's a throwback to the original Bogie Time."
Jun: "Actually, it just straight-up raises the question of just why exactly this new and improved Bogie Time has to go on for so long, doesn't it~?"
"Was it seriously necessary to hold it over nine whole days?"
Ibara: “Yes, I’d say so.”
“It would’ve been difficult for those who are inexperienced with variety shows — namely, the members of Ra*bits and Adam — to behave in sufficiently amusing ways without rehearsing beforehand.”
“We needed to be forced into acclimatizing to the vicissitudes of such programs.”
Hiyori: "I believe they also wanted us to show our genuine selves, in having us live with each other for eight days."
"That's what variety shows are all about, no? After all, it's great fun to discover sides of people you'd never expect them to have."
"This is especially true for us of Eden, as we have been like transcendental beings all this time."
"And thanks to Nazuna-kun's overprotectiveness, Ra*bits too have shown surprisingly little of their private lives."
Nazuna: “...What’s so bad about being overprotective?”
“Guess it’s ingrained in me to focus exclusively on the art of performance too...”
“I just end up thinking that it’s not really necessary to show our fans what happens offstage too.”
Hiyori: "That's the usual with Yumenosaki students, isn't it? Up until this year, none of you belonged to an agency, so you've all been pretty lax about protecting your privacy."
"I'm sure you must have thought it'd be safer to keep everything under the wraps."
"However, things will be different from now on. We’ll show ourselves off in front of everyone ♪ "
Nazuna: “You might enjoy flaunting yourself for all the world to see, but I’d rather keep private stuff private.”
“Although I guess everything there is to see about me has already been exposed over these past eight days.”
Hiyori: "Nevermind the times Nazuna-kun forces himself to act cute — I believe we now have confirmation his genuine side is even cuter, such as when he's half asleep."
Nazuna: “Wagh, no, don't put my half-asleep face on TV! I’m telling you! I’ll die!”
Hiyori: "On the off-chance it doesn't make it onto the screen, I'll tell the viewers a little about what happened!"
"One morning, while Nazuna-kun was still half asleep, he mistook me as his very own pet rabbit and—"
Nazuna: “AGH! AGH! Cut it out! Not another word outta your mouth!”
Ibara: (What on earth did he do…?)
(I’m not too sure what the other teams have been up to, and there’s not much I can do but wait for the program to be broadcasted.)
(However, for caution’s sake, it would be best for me to go through all the footage beforehand.)
(I’m sure there’s an enormous amount; it certainly won’t be an easy task. But I might be able to obtain some useful information.)
(...His Excellency confiscated my phone, so I was unable to check for updates in real time.)
(I suppose this was a lesson — I realized that I need to perceive the events unfolding before me with my senses, like any other living creature, instead of focusing solely on the statistics and figures I find on the internet.)
(Additionally, I had to constantly operate on the assumption that I was being filmed 24/7, so I couldn’t employ any of my usual tactics...)
(Be it meticulous negotiations or behind-the-scenes maneuvering.)
(I wasn’t able to contact any of my subordinates, either. These past ten days have certainly tested my true strength. Yes, this was an invaluable experience.)
(...I used to be a brat who despised all the world — I wonder how much I’ve grown?)
(In the past, I would lash out and attack you, only to have you turn the tables on me time and time again. Am I still that same weak, foolish child… Instructor?)
(No. Even if that were true, I’m changing. And so are you — you’re in the middle of discovering your talent as an actor, growing by leaps and bounds.)
(...From now on, I’ll do the same. I’ll grow, just like you.)
Mitsuru: BAM!☆
Hajime: “Eek—w-wah?!”
Tumblr media
Ibara: “Are you alright, Jimenyan? Please do your best~”
Hajime: “Oh, yes! Ehehe, it’s already the next day, but you’re still calling me by that nickname—”
“Waaagh?!”
Mitsuru: “Come on now! You can’t go lookin’ at somethin’ else! I don’t wanna do something mean to you, Hajime-chan, but this is a battle and you’re the enemy so I’ll do whatever it takes to win!”
“I’m not gonna take it easy on you!”
Jun: "Alright, then! As you can all see, the pool we have at our venue here has been turned into a floating sumo stage!
"Ah, as a note to all our performers: we'll be explaining everything again since this'll come right after a commercial break!"
Nagisa: “...Yes, we know. We’ve grown accustomed to the ways of variety shows by now.”
Jun: "Since this is the final day of Bogie Time, we'll be playing ten minigames in a row!"
"'Water Sumo Wrestling' is our third minigame, and just as the name implies, we'll be wrestling in the arena floating atop the water!"
Hiyori: "It might be called 'sumo wrestling', but you won't lose even if your knees or elbows hit the ground!"
"The one and only way to lose is to get tossed out of the arena and into the water!"
Jun: "Additionally, everyone's gonna take part at the same time, meaning all eight of us will be trying to shove each other off!"
"Basically, it's just Super Smash Br*s Ultimate!"
Hiyori: "Talk about a blatant reference! By the way, whichever team the last man standing belongs to shall receive 3000 points!"
"And on the flip side, the losing teams will all lose 1000 points each!"
Jun: "Team God's in the lead after racking up around 50000 points in the days running up to the final, so it's not gonna make much difference, though~"
"Well, every little bit counts, I guess?"
Hiyori: "Yes, indeed! All the teams lagging behind shouldn't throw in the towel just yet — you all ought to continue doing your best!"
Jun: "You're making it sound as if you're already winning."
"As it stands, the ranking right now is Team God in first place, followed by Team Snakey, Team Hyena and then Team Bunny—"
"Considering how your ass is dead last, you should be following your own advice, yeah?"
Hiyori: "How vulgar! But no matter, I'm sure that a show like this is bound to have some way of turning the tables eventually!
"So now's the time to conserve our strength, and sit tight in wait for that very opportunity!"
Jun: "Y'know, you're kinda contradicting yourself..."
"But well, that's your strategy, huh? Gonna wait for the other teams to tire themselves out first by giving it everything they've got?"
"That's one way to pave an easy path of turning things 'round for yourself."
Hiyori: "But of course! That's why I've retired so soon from this considerably physical trial of strength that is Water Sumo Wrestling!"
"After all, wobbling to and fro atop this floating arena as you rush back and forth to knock each other off... It's certainly rather inelegant! What foul weather!"
Nazuna: “I just lost when someone pushed me in… I’m the oldest in Ra*bits, yet the least blessed when it comes to physique, huh.”
“Nah, that’s not it. Everyone’s gotten stronger. It’s hitting me these days more than ever.”

FujiKei: Hello to everyone listening to the audio commentary of “Mekakucity Actors Act 06 – Headphone Actor”. I’m the one who had a great breakthrough as the voice of Tateyama Kenjirou, Fujiwara Keiji.
Suzuki: And I’ll be participating today as well. I’m Suzuki Kenta from Aniplex.
Ishikawa: Yes, and I will be the one supervising the process. I’m Ishikawa from Aniplex. The three of us will be the ones to deliver Act 06. I’ll be in your care.
FujiKei/Suzuki: We’ll be in your care.
Suzuki: We have Fujiwara Keiji-san with us.
Ishikawa: Yes!
FujiKei: My, I was really looking forward to being called over.
Suzuki: *laughs*
FujiKei: Nobody was calling me at all.
Ishikawa: That’s true.
FujiKei: So I was wondering what was going on.
Ishikawa: I see!
FujiKei: And now, finally.
Suzuki: You managed to get into Act 06 because of this kind of thoughtfulness.
FujiKei: They gave me the spot!
Suzuki: *laughs* After warming it up for you, that is! Thank you very much for coming.
Ishikawa: Thank you.
FujiKei: Speaking of Act 06, it was dead-on a very easy episode for me to dub.
Suzuki/Ishikawa: *laugh*
Ishikawa: Well, yeah.
Suzuki: Kenjirou has a lot of screen time in these episodes.
FujiKei: Yes, yes. But see, isn’t this quite difficult?
Ishikawa: That’s right.
Suzuki: Overall, it is.
FujiKei: Overall, yes. I received the story settings, character backgrounds and other such things on the spot, right before the recording!
Ishikawa: That’s right, you received the contextual materials. It was pretty thick.
Suzuki: Yup, yup, yup!
FujiKei: The more I read them, the less I understood.
Suzuki: Oh?
Ishikawa: Eh?
Suzuki/Ishikawa: *laugh*
FujiKei: I read about 50 pages of it.
Suzuki: Oh, thank you so much! You read that much?
FujiKei: I did. And once you start reading, surprisingly enough, you do get where this and that connect.
Ishikawa: Ah, that’s right. Surprisingly, you find out that one thing connects with this other thing.
FujiKei: Exactly.
Ishikawa: Something that you see on page 3 connects with something from page 50.
Suzuki: Yeeep.
FujiKei: It’s quite an inexperienced way of doing things. Is it okay to do it like that?
Ishikawa: It is.
Suzuki: But one of the good things about this series is being able to enjoy these mysteries.
Ishikawa: The audience savors the experience.
FujiKei: I see...
Ishikawa: That’s what’s charming about it.
FujiKei: It’s exactly my idea of fun!
Suzuki: *laughs*
FujiKei: That’s literally how I felt back then.
Suzuki: I see. Hum, out of the twelve episodes of this TV anime, episode six must’ve been quite easy to understand, well, as a story.
FujiKei: It sure was.
Suzuki: Right. I imagine it must’ve been easy to dub for you, Keiji-san.
FujiKei: I would’ve been okay with any episode.
Suzuki/Ishikawa: Thank you very much!
FujiKei: All of them are fine.
Suzuki: That’s literally what Kenjirou would say.
FujiKei: It is.
Suzuki: Yes, yes, yes.
FujiKei: Oh! Pretty talented! Is that me?
Suzuki: It is! *laughs*
Ishikawa: *laughs*
FujiKei: Splendid acting, isn’t it?
Suzuki: It is, as expected.
FujiKei: I did think I had done well, but this is even better than what I’d thought, wouldn’t you say?
Suzuki: When you listen to it yourself...
FujiKei: Yep, when you listen to it yourself...
Ishikawa: You get hooked into the character, huh?
Suzuki: *laughs*
FujiKei: I do, I do. And the other person is...
Suzuki: Yes?
FujiKei: Isn’t it Asumi Kana-san?
Suzuki: Precisely.
Ishikawa: It is.
FujiKei: To tell the truth, the people who are aware of this will know, but I rarely ever get to perform with Asumi Kana-san.
Suzuki: That’s right.
Ishikawa: True.
FujiKei: We have hosted a radio show together, but...
Suzuki: Right.
Ishikawa: That’s a bit of a pity.
Suzuki: Through our company, Aniplex, you and Asumi Kana-san were in charge of hosting a radio show.
FujiKei: Yes. Thank you very much for it.
Suzuki: It was quite good.
FujiKei: But other than that, we didn’t get to perform together at all.
Suzuki: Yes.
FujiKei: Ah, maybe this was our first time properly performing with each other?
Suzuki: Right. As regulars, perhaps.
FujiKei: It was very new.
Suzuki: Really?
FujiKei: When I came to the studio...
Suzuki: Yes?
FujiKei: ...Asumi Kana-san was there.
Suzuki: *laughs*
Ishikawa: I see. So when you were recording for the radio show, you felt used to the atmosphere of it.
FujiKei: I’d be like, “Yo, Asumi.”
Ishikawa: I see.
FujiKei: And she’d be like, “Keiji-kun, good morning.”
Suzuki: *laughs* So Asumi-san calls you “Keiji-kun”.
Ishikawa: *laughs*
FujiKei: But aren’t there other people performing with us? That’s why I had a bit of resistance to being called “Keiji-kun”.
Suzuki: Of course. *laughs*
Ishikawa: But of course! If you do that in this business...
FujiKei: People go, “Eh?” and it’s uncomfortable.
Suzuki: Indeed! As expected, age and career time are also involved.
Ishikawa: That’s right!
FujiKei: But I was kinda looking forward to it.
Suzuki: I see!
FujiKei: And she did call me “Keiji-kun”.
Suzuki: Ah, so she did it! As expected of Asumi-san! So she created a stir.
FujiKei: Like, “Whoa, whoa, what was that?”
Suzuki: Using “kun” for you.
FujiKei: Yes, yes.
Ishikawa: *laughs*
FujiKei: But my first time performing with her was fun.
Suzuki: Must have been.
FujiKei: Yes...
Suzuki: We would like to talk about it.
FujiKei: Eh, yes.
Suzuki: This time, the creator...
Suzuki/Ishikawa: ...Jin-san...
Suzuki: ...is absent.
FujiKei: Ah! I see. Jin-san was always here on every episode, without fail, right?
Suzuki: Exactly.
Ishikawa: Until now, that is. Until Act 05, we had Jin-san participate on every episode.
Suzuki: Yes.
Ishikawa: But this time, Fujiwara Keiji-san would participate, so he told us, “Rather than ending up with Keiji-san asking about someone like me, there are many things that I would like to hear from him instead”, and this is how it turned out.
FujiKei: Ah, so it was on purpose?
Ishikawa: Yes!
Suzuki: So he’s stuck with us, salary man.
Ishikawa: Also, there were a few adult circumstances involved.
Suzuki: That’s right.
Ishikawa: Well, by “adult circumstances”, I mean schedule issues.
Suzuki: *laughs*
Ishikawa: So for this time...
FujiKei: Yes!
Suzuki: Keiji-san is going to be sandwiched by two salary men.
FujiKei: Yes.
Suzuki: We’re sorry about that.
FujiKei: No, no, it’s no problem. Well, it is a pity that he isn’t here, though.
Suzuki: Yup.
FujiKei: But we shouldn’t get caught up in how it’d be if he were here or on the fact that he isn’t here.
Ishikawa: *laughs*
Suzuki: That’s right. It isn’t the focus.
FujiKei: It isn’t.
Suzuki: Yes.
Ishikawa: *nods audibly*
Suzuki/FujiKei: *muffled laughter*
Ishikawa: That’s right. Anyway, Fujiwara-san, when it was first decided that you’d take part in “Mekakucity Actors”, I believe there was probably an entrance to it for you, where you were thinking, “What kind of series is this?”
FujiKei: Yes.
Ishikawa: So, Fujiwara-san, do you have any memory of what it was like coming in contact with “Mekakucity Actors” or “Kagerou Project” for the first time?
FujiKei: Let’s see... if I rummage through my memory...
Suzuki: *muffled laughter*
FujiKei: Well, hum, when we were doing the auditions, wasn’t the title “Kagerou Daze”?
Suzuki: Aaah...
Ishikawa: That’s right; it’s the novel.
FujiKei: Ah, so that’s how it is. I see.
Suzuki: Exactly. This was quite a while ago, most likely.
FujiKei: So when my participation was green-lit, it was “Mekakucity Actors”.
Suzuki/Ishikawa: *laugh*
FujiKei: I was like, “Uh? Hm? Eh?”
Suzuki: Like, “Hold on a minute.”
Ishikawa: *laughs*
FujiKei: Like, “What was it again?”
Suzuki: I see, I see. Well, first things first, the title of the anime is “Mekakucity Actors”. But when it comes to the light novels and manga, it’s “Kagerou Daze”, which is a reference to the title of one of the songs. This happened when the title of the anime wasn’t yet decided, so...
Ishikawa: That’s right.
Suzuki: When we reached out to you, Fujiwara-san, that’s how it was called.
FujiKei: And wasn’t it quite popular on the internet? Everyone was like, “It’s gonna get an anime adaptation!”
Suzuki: Ah, that’s right.
FujiKei: So I got curious and did a search. I found out that it was a hot topic.
Suzuki: Hmm.
FujiKei: And so, I was like, “Oh, what kind of guy am I going to be in this? What’s gonna be my role?” and tried to guess it.
Suzuki: Ah, so you were imagining it?
FujiKei: Exactly.
Ishikawa: Oooh...
Suzuki: Ah, I see, I see.
FujiKei: And then...
Suzuki: Yes?
FujiKei: There was a character that looked a lot like the type I’d voice.
Suzuki: Oh.
FujiKei: I was like, “All right, all right, all right.”
Suzuki: So there was someone who fit you to a T.
FujiKei: There was.
Suzuki: Hmmm.
FujiKei: I was like, “It’s okay for me to play him, right?” and tried to rehearse it.
Suzuki/Ishikawa: *laugh*
FujiKei: This helped out a lot, though he turned out to be different.
Suzuki: That’s right. But for starters, Jin-san and Sidu-san, the person who makes the illustrations, work as a duo. Jin-san makes the music and Sidu-san makes the art and creates videos for the songs. They upload them to Nico Nico Douga and that’s how they gradually expanded the range of it.
FujiKei: Ah, so that’s how it began?
Suzuki: Exactly. That’s how it developed.
FujiKei: Heeh, is that so?
Suzuki: Yes. And when the anime was green-lit, the topic of who was going to voice who was brought up to the two of them.
FujiKei: Hmm.
Suzuki: And the talk was like, “If it’s for Kenjirou, this person. If it’s for Ene, this person.”
FujiKei: Yes!
Suzuki: During that discussion, the first name that came up was “Fujiwara Keiji-san”.
FujiKei: Is that true?
Suzuki: Yes.
FujiKei: Didn’t Aniplex-san oppose to it?
Ishikawa: *laughs*
Suzuki: No, why would you ask that? *laughs*
Ishikawa: That almost sounds like...
FujiKei: They didn’t?
Suzuki: No, no way they would!
FujiKei: Like, “Nah, that guy??”
Suzuki: No, no, no! That wouldn’t happen.
FujiKei: Weren’t they thinking anything like, “It doesn’t have to be him”?
Suzuki: They were like, “If he can participate, we want Keiji-san. The only problem is his schedule.”
Ishikawa: That’s what they said.
FujiKei: For real? Then... Then, you recommended me?
Suzuki: Well, of course!
FujiKei: Really? Thank you very much!
Ishikawa: We wanted to—
FujiKei: So it was like a company meeting?
Suzuki: *laughs* Why would it?!
Ishikawa: We were like, “By all means, we’d love to leave it to him.”
Suzuki: It wasn’t like a meeting at all. Don’t we owe you a lot from that radio show?
Ishikawa: That’s right.
Suzuki: And from the several roles that you played?
FujiKei: You mean it?
Suzuki: I do.
FujiKei: *laughs*
Suzuki: For some reason, you don’t seem convinced! *laughs*
Ishikawa: *laughs*
Suzuki: I wonder why!
FujiKei: Well, rather than that, let’s talk more about the series, you two!
Suzuki: You’re right.
FujiKei: What are you doing?
Suzuki: My deepest apologies! *laughs*
FujiKei: You have to take this seriously!
Suzuki: That’s right. Hmm... Welp, shall we move on with the conversation?
FujiKei: Are we already in the B part?
Suzuki: Yeah. It went by fast!
FujiKei: So fast!
Suzuki: We have entered the B part...
Ishikawa: Compared to Act 05, the timeline here is...
Suzuki: Right.
Ishikawa: Yes. It’s a story that happened in the past. It’s from about two years before the main story, which begins on episode 1.
Suzuki: Exactly.
FujiKei: Two years in the past?
Suzuki: That’s right; it goes back in time a little.
Ishikawa: That’s right.
FujiKei: I thought it was about three years. So it’s two?
Ishikawa/Suzuki: *laugh*
Ishikawa: Eeerm...
FujiKei: Ah, is that so?
Ishikawa: Hm, yes. In this story, we see Kido in a slightly different light from what we had seen until now. Like, she’s a bit of a weaker character in comparison to her usual self – or rather, to the present time. And, well... this time, she appears here as Takane, but Ene-chan was also still attending a school where Kenjirou worked as a teacher. The circumstances are a bit different in this story. But, well, these are also part of the highlights of this episode.
FujiKei: Aaah... I see.
Suzuki: *laugh*
Ishikawa: I just started talked seriously for a moment there.
Suzuki: No, no, no.
FujiKei: It’s fine.
Suzuki: This episode does have that kind of side to it.
FujiKei: Hum, about the people listening to this audio commentary...
Ishikawa: Yes?
FujiKei: ...I wonder what they’re after.
Suzuki: “What they’re after”?
Ishikawa: That’s deep.
FujiKei: Is it an explanation about the show?
Suzuki: Aaah...
FujiKei: Or does it not have to be related to the series?
Ishikawa: Like, if they just want to hear your voices? Or want to know about what the recordings feel like?
FujiKei: I wonder which of these.
Suzuki: It might be all of it.
Ishikawa: That’s right.
Suzuki: As expected, there are viewers who are after inside stories and others who are...
FujiKei: Isn’t there any inside story about my character?
Suzuki: An inside story?
FujiKei: Yes.
Suzuki: An inside story, huh...
Ishikawa: Inside story...
FujiKei: It’s okay if there isn’t!
Suzuki: *laughs*
FujiKei: It’s okay if there isn’t any.
Suzuki: I wonder if we have anything.
Ishikawa: When it comes to anything that could be considered an “inside story” in these episodes...
Suzuki: Hmmm...
Ishikawa: ...surprisingly, there’s nothing.
FujiKei: *chuckles*
Everyone: *laughs*
Ishikawa: There might surprisingly be none...
Suzuki: True...
FujiKei: Let’s leave it as that, then.
Suzuki: If anything comes to mind, we’ll talk about it.
Ishikawa: That’s right. We’ll cross that bridge when we remember it.
Suzuki: Also, Keiji-san.
FujiKei: Yes?
Suzuki: You’re here with us, so I think there are some people who will want to hear, for example, about stories from you that they usually don’t get to listen to.
Ishikawa: Hmm!
FujiKei: Y’know, people tell me that I look like I’m lying even when I don’t say anything.
Ishikawa: No way!
Suzuki: Is that true?
FujiKei: I mean, don’t I look fishy right now?
Ishikawa: *laughs*
Suzuki: No, no! Not at all!
FujiKei: Like, y’know, the people listening to this won’t be able to tell, but you two keep giving me these crooked smiles and making faces like you’re about to laugh.
Suzuki: *laughs* No, no!
Ishikawa: That’s not it, that’s not it!
FujiKei: Your faces look like they’re asking, “What’s this guy saying?”
Suzuki: We don’t think that.
FujiKei: You don’t?
Suzuki: No, no, no.
Ishikawa: Not at all.
FujiKei: Hmm, really?
Suzuki: On the contrary, your approach is very proper. To an uncanny extent.
FujiKei: Is that so?
Suzuki: It is.
FujiKei: That’s fine, then.
Suzuki: You’re a gentleman, after all.
Ishikawa: That’s right.
FujiKei: Hm, hm, hm.
Ishikawa: Ah, this is the one that Miyano-san voiced. Eh... Haruka-kun, right?
Suzuki: Exactly.
FujiKei: This is Miyano-kun?!
Suzuki: That’s right.
FujiKei: So this was Miyano-kun...?
Ishikawa: It was.
Suzuki: Yeah.
FujiKei: Kaaah...!
Suzuki: Miyano-san played, well, t... three roles in this series, was it?
Ishikawa: That’s right. Counting with this one.
FujiKei: Ah, is that so? He had this character and...
Ishikawa: His characters are interconnected with each other.
Suzuki: Yeah, there’s Konoha.
Ishikawa: Yes.
Suzuki: There’s the one who’s showing up here, Haruka.
Ishikawa: Yes.
Suzuki: And there’s a character who appears in the last episode.
Ishikawa: That’s right; he shows up here and there.
FujiKei: By the way, as always, the art style is rather unique.
Suzuki: Ah, that’s right.
FujiKei: This is a trademark of SHAFT-san.
Suzuki: Yeeep.
Ishikawa: They have a particular style.
FujiKei: It’s pretty mysterious.
Ishikawa: Yes.
Suzuki: Sure is. As expected, the art changes for each series.
FujiKei: Yes, yes.
Suzuki: But in the end, SHAFT-san has a style that is specific to them.
Ishikawa: That’s right.
Suzuki: Like, the way they do the photography and the art composition.
FujiKei: I mean, like...
Suzuki: *laughs*
FujiKei: Did they go around—no, did they run past those guys?
Ishikawa: Yes, yes, yes.
FujiKei: There’s no way that they could run past them, right?
Suzuki: Yes, that’s right.
Ishikawa: That’s right.
Suzuki: It’s like they turned into ghosts or something.
FujiKei: There’s no way they could do that.
Ishikawa: It half looks like they ran past them but we can’t really see from that angle.
Suzuki: Hmm.
FujiKei: Quite an unique kind of photography, isn’t it?
Suzuki: That’s right.
FujiKei: It’s an interesting animation, huh?
Suzuki: Yup.
Ishikawa: In contrast, we thought, during the recordings, that “Mekakushi” is a little different from other series. Well, I think this is also evident in the atmosphere of the recordings.
FujiKei: Hmm.
Ishikawa: Is it different from the recordings of other shows?
FujiKei: As expected, when the staging is different, the way you get hooked into performing along with the animation also becomes a little different.
Suzuki: Ah, I see.
FujiKei: That’s how I view it.
Suzuki: Ah, right.
FujiKei: Well, indeed, there are things such as how they divide the cuts and scenes.
Ishikawa: That’s right, the cuts.
Suzuki: Yeah.
FujiKei: They make it in a rather interesting way.
Suzuki/Ishikawa: Hmmm.
Suzuki: Indeed. How should I put it? It just turns into that kind of animation.
Ishikawa: Yup, yup, yup.
Suzuki: As expected, when it goes from the scenario and storyboards into the screen, it really makes you go, “Ah, there it is”.
Ishikawa: That’s right
Suzuki: I find myself thinking every single time, “This is a work by SHAFT-san, after all.”
Ishikawa: Yep.
FujiKei: Well, that’s what properly hooks us into it while we pour our hearts into the performance.
Suzuki/Ishikawa: Hmm!
Ishikawa: Well, the same goes for the art style, of course, but the atmosphere during the recordings is also a little bit eccentric.
Suzuki: True.
FujiKei: Right.
Ishikawa: Wow, but you’re right, this gust of wind blowing from the head downward...
Suzuki: *laughs* Well, yeah.
FujiKei: Well, it’s part of the staging, so that people will understand what this means.
Ishikawa: Yes, yes.
FujiKei: But I think we, the performers, are all conscious of this.
Ishikawa: Also, speaking of stories from the recordings of “Mekakucity Actors”...
FujiKei: Yes?
Ishikawa: ...depending on the episode and the characters that show up in them, the actors’ line-up changes completely.
FujiKei: That’s true.
Ishikawa: Yes. When I watched the recordings, I thought very keenly that this was also one of the exceptional points of this series.
Suzuki: Yuuup.
Ishikawa: Like, sometimes, people who had showed up without fail for the previous episodes weren’t there for the others.
FujiKei: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Suzuki: Ah, yes.
FujiKei: That’s why, during the recordings, when I hadn’t showed up for a few episodes and then had to show up on another, I’d be like, “Uh? The situation’s changed quite drastically here...”
Suzuki: Ah, that’s right.
Ishikawa: As if you’re in a different place, right?
FujiKei: Well, this will happen much later, so it’ll turn into something pretty different from what it is now.
Suzuki: Exactly.
Ishikawa: Right.
FujiKei: So whenever I had to come over, follow along with the new atmosphere.
Suzuki: I see.
FujiKei: Yep... you gotta renew your feelings for that.
Suzuki: I see, I see, I see.
FujiKei: That’s what’s both difficult and fun about it.
Suzuki: As expected, this is something that happens in multi-protagonist stories.
FujiKei: That’s right.
Suzuki: There are many characters who could be considered to be the lead – or rather, all of the characters are leads when the focus is on them.
Ishikawa: Yes.
Suzuki: All of them are the stars of the show, in a way.
FujiKei: Yes.
Suzuki: As expected, only in this kind of series do we have something like that. For example, Terashima Takuma-san and Asumi Kana-san. They show up in the beginning, but after that, they don’t have screen time for a while.
Ishikawa: Ah, that’s right.
FujiKei: And one more thing I was scared of was...
Suzuki: Uh?
FujiKei: ...the fact that there were frantic dialogues.
Suzuki: *laughs*
Ishikawa: That’s right.
FujiKei: *laughs* Why?
Ishikawa: They came up a lot on episode 2, right?
Suzuki: Indeed. Momo and Kenjirou kept going off at each other.
FujiKei: It was so scary.
Suzuki: *laughs*
FujiKei: No, but thank you for entrusting it to me. I was torn to pieces, though.
Suzuki: No, no, no. But then again, there might be lots of characters, yet there’s a limit to the amount of people who can speak in each part.
Ishikawa: They can monopolize it.
Suzuki: Exactly.
Ishikawa: This is a work where the characters take turns to present themselves.
Suzuki: Yup.
FujiKei: And there are lots of dialogues without pause, so it makes your heart race.
Suzuki: *laughs*
FujiKei: It made mine race, at least!
Ishikawa: I think people will be able to tell if they watch the next episodes, but the character that Fujiwara-san plays, Kenjirou, is something like a core part of the story, so to speak.
Suzuki: That’s right.
Ishikawa: Well, naturally, by the time you were performing in episode two and six, you had already received an explanation about the fate of your character in the inevitable future, right?
FujiKei: W-Well, I was aware of how things would turn out.
Ishikawa: I see.
FujiKei: I was told that the “alternate personality-like thing” would be drastically different from the character I was playing at the moment, so I was conscious of it. Therefore, well, while stepping into that territory, I made sure to leave my doors open for it, rather than just performing for the sake of these specific episodes.
Suzuki: Yes, yes, yes!
FujiKei: I was conscious of that.
Ishikawa: This is part of the series’ charm.
Suzuki: Hmm.
Ishikawa: This is the younger Shintarou-kun, huh?
Suzuki: That’s right.
Ishikawa: Yes, he’s... about to win against Takane now.
Suzuki: This moment right here is where we see the origins of Shintarou and Ene’s relationship.
Ishikawa: Yeah, it’s been revealed.
Suzuki: Yep. It’s like... what lies underneath.
Ishikawa: Yes.
Suzuki: Why Ene calls Shintarou “Master”.
Ishikawa: “Master”.
Suzuki: And other such things. All kinds of foreshadowing.
Ishikawa: Exactly.
FujiKei: Well, that’s what we call “mystery solving”. There’s fun in that.
Suzuki: Yep.
Ishikawa: And this girl with the red scarf, eeerm...
Suzuki: “Ayano”.
Ishikawa: Ayano, voiced by Nakahara-san. It’s revealed that she’s Kenjirou’s daughter.
Suzuki: Right.
Ishikawa: All kinds of relations that these people have with each other gradually come to light.
FujiKei: We have to cherish our relationships.
Suzuki: *laughs* Exactly.
Ishikawa: That’s right. Just as you say.
FujiKei: *laughs* Did I say something that had nothing to do with it?
Suzuki: *laughs* No, no.
Ishikawa: Not at all.
Suzuki: It’s something that matters!
FujiKei: It is.
Ishikawa: It matters.
FujiKei: The bonds between people, so to say.
Suzuki: That’s right.
FujiKei: Makes you realize that they’re important. Once again, that is.
Suzuki: *laughs*
Ishikawa: Thank you for that one. This is pretty nice. A very good commentary. There’s warmth to it.
Suzuki: It’s deep.
Ishikawa: Yeah.
Suzuki: Very much so.
FujiKei: Kinda like these songs. Just a little.
Suzuki: Yes. It’ll be great if your words just now will pierce everyone’s hearts too.
FujiKei: Yes, indeed.
Ishikawa: Ah!
FujiKei: “Just a bit more”. You’re thinking, “Just a bit more”, aren’t you?
Ishikawa: No, no, no!
Suzuki: About what?
FujiKei: “Just a bit more and this will be over”.
Ishikawa: No, no! *clears throat*
FujiKei: But there are still things we have to talk about, aren’t there?
Ishikawa: It’s just that Ayano is talking about Kenjirou in this exact moment.
FujiKei: Hm-hm.
Ishikawa: She was talking about her dad.
Suzuki: Hm.
Ishikawa: Well, on the topic of soundtrack, other than the theme songs, Jin-san was also in charge of producing the background music.
Suzuki: Yuuup.
FujiKei: He’s got all kinds of talents, huh?
Suzuki: That’s right.
Ishikawa: Right. He’s a self-made producer.
Suzuki: Well, he’s the person who made the theme songs, produced the OST and wrote the anime’s screenplay, after all. *laughs*
Ishikawa: Yeah.
Suzuki: He also wrote the novels himself.
Ishikawa: Yeah.
FujiKei: He’s amazing.
Suzuki: Hmmm!
FujiKei: Wow...
Suzuki: He’s multi-talented in the very sense of the word.
Ishikawa: Right.
FujiKei: My, I’m pretty curious about what’s next. 70% of this gets you so curious that you can’t help it, huh?
Suzuki: That’s right.
Ishikawa: Indeed. These episodes are like that.
FujiKei: Right?!
Ishikawa: Just as you say, quite literally.
FujiKei: You think they’re gonna keep going on like this, just like a gang.
Suzuki: Yeah.
Ishikawa: Yep.
FujiKei: But after this...
Suzuki: My, my, my...
Ishikawa: And this is how the Cultural Festival ends.
Suzuki: Yeah.
Ishikawa: Yes. And from this point comes the ending theme – or the theme song – of this episode, “Yuukei Yesterday”.
Suzuki: Yep!
Ishikawa: And we get something of an ending sequence for this one, right?
Suzuki: That’s right.
Ishikawa: And, well, this time, the opening theme was “Headphone Actor”.
Suzuki: Yup, yup.
Ishikawa: But we have the same guest vocalist, LISA-san here.
Suzuki: Yup.
Ishikawa: Ah, they’re taking a test.
Suzuki: As expected, the series came from the songs, so...
Ishikawa: That’s right.
Suzuki: So the songs that are related to each episode become the insert songs.
Ishikawa: Right.
Suzuki: Jin-san gave this idea while writing the screenplay.
Ishikawa: Hmmm! I see. So this is the concept this time.
Suzuki: Well, yeah. There are twelve songs – I mean, we’re not using exactly twelve songs, but twelve of the songs make for an omnibus, so to speak.
Ishikawa: Right.
Suzuki: In this anime, the climax of the story cuts off abruptly on each episode. And with this kind of construction in mind – how should I put it? They tried to get close to this image.
Ishikawa: That’s right.
Suzuki: Hmm.
Ishikawa: Kenjirou is peeking.
Suzuki: *laughs*
Ishikawa: Yep.
FujiKei: Hmmm...
Ishikawa: This is so nice. Youth at its finest.
Suzuki: Right? All that stuff they’re doing...
Ishikawa: Aaah...
FujiKei: Hmmm...
Suzuki/Ishikawa: *muffled laughter*
Ishikawa: He sure is humming very loudly.
Suzuki: *laughs*
Ishikawa: What a nice smile on Takane’s face.
Suzuki: Yeeep.
Ishikawa: All right. It’s August 15th.
Suzuki: Hm.
Ishikawa: Well, this is how the C part of episode six goes.
Suzuki: Yep!
Ishikawa: This time is a little different from what we’ve been seeing until now. Eeeh... well, the C part has always been the art of a certain picture book.
Suzuki: That’s right!
Ishikawa: But this time, we have this. It’s a bit of a special episode, so this is the C part of it.
Suzuki: Hm!
Ishikawa: Well, it’ll soon be time to say our goodbyes.
FujiKei: That’s right.
Suzuki: Hmm!
Ishikawa: How was it for you, Keiji-san, watching this episode?
FujiKei: Well, the sixth episode... the last part of it – well, I already talked about it earlier.
Ishikawa: Yes.
FujiKei: This is the part that I’m curious about.
Ishikawa: Ah, that’s right?
FujiKei: Like, “What’s gonna happen?”
Ishikawa: That’s right. This is where it begins. These developments are what drives the story.
FujiKei: Yep.
Suzuki: Yup.
Ishikawa: It’s an episode where we reach a peak.
FujiKei: Hmm.
Suzuki: Yes.
Ishikawa: Oh! Soon...
FujiKei: My, my...
Ishikawa: While people stay curious for what’s to come, the next time we’ll get to meet is on episode seven.
FujiKei: Yes!
Suzuki: Yes.
Ishikawa: Act 06 ends here, right?
FujiKei: Yeah, that’s right. Thank you very much.
Ishikawa: Yes, thank you very much!
Suzuki: Thank you very much!

Sawr the Ninja Turtles Movie !  The Ninja Turtles were in it, and they played a role in the events that transpired
-- I liked the aesthetic; reminded me of the old Playmates figures [especially with Leonardo’s swords], or early Mirage comics !
-- Except during the action scenes, then it was a little blurry and hard to follow
-- I would’ve had all their masks match, though [Raphael’s covered his whole head].  I think the only time I liked mismatched masks was The Next Mutation
-- Hey Arnold !  reference; wasn’t expecting that.  Kind of weird that they referenced Shrek and such, things from after Turtles times.  Or maybe not
-- So many mutants--you could say it was Mutant Mayhem !  Maybe too many mutants, in fact; it would’ve been nice for them to get more of a chance to shine
--There’s Bebop and Rocksteady, but no Shredder, so Splinter’s origin is, naturally,  a little different
-- Him learning ninjutsu from TV is kind of like the Michael Bay movies, as well as the Turts being hooked up to the machine
-- Some of the Mutants were turned female to make it more even; you could say there weren’t very many [at least from the ‘87 show] besides Mona Lisa...
-- April was great !  It seems every incarnation, a different Turtle is the one to have a crush on her.  I tend to prefer a reporter April, like she is here.  I wondered if they’d get to save her at some point, but you might say she saved them instead !  What a nice April !
-- Turtles in high school, that’s like a fanfiction.  And then I think--isn’t every different incarnation of something kinda like a fanfiction
-- I wore one of my Turtles shirts; I look very hot
-- Oh, I wonder if Cynthia Utrom was an utrom; I guess she didn’t really come up again after the milking
