If no one could give you the love you craved...
Then you would create someone who could.
Wouldn't that be fun?
Game is now complete. Have fun.
You were always obsessed with a specific love... not one advertised in romance novels or movies, but a love that consumes and corrupts... One of obsession and possession. No matter what you did, you could never find that love...
So you decided... why not make this perfect love instead?
A game that was suppose to be made for the Yandere Jam 2023, but I didn't have enough time to finish, so now I'm going to try to finish it by the end of the summer at latest.
Game will include:
Nameable MC (Default Name, Eris) who is incredibly manipulative
Choose your own Nickname
Too many references to yandere vns (in terms of names and nickname combos)
Milo, the to-be yandere that changes appearance, personality and dialogue based on decisions.
Everything in greyscale so I don't die of coloring
Three Choices
Eight Different Endings + A Secret Ending
Maybe Extras if I can figure out how to code it in which will include some basic side stories
Future Progress:
Extra Scenes Writing: 90%
Extra Scenes Sprites: 30%
Extra Scenes Coding: 30%
Extra Scenes Music: 0%
Milo Didn't Like that: 0%
Game Warnings:
Includes:
Bullying
Manipulation (on both Milo and Eris's part)
Blackmail
Violence/Blood
Stalking
Drugging (creation of and using of)
Possessive/ Obsessiveness
Yandere Behavior (And a yandere of course)
A Cruel MC
and others that will be added to the list afterwards
I'll try to give progress updates at least once a week so people know that I'm working on it. We'll see how it goes.
Feel free to send asks!
I'll figure out tags as we go as well. Have fun!

Hello! I have a few questions as someone who takes great inspiration from brilliant works of interaction fiction and similar methods of storytelling. I hope you don’t mind me asking!
1. If there something that draws you to the current format of interactive fiction storytelling rather than something such as a visual novel? Do you enjoy it more, is it less costly, easier for you, etc…?
2. What are some of the most prevalent difficulties in writing within the medium?
3. What do you wish you knew before you began writing interactive fiction?
Keep up the incredible work, I always love seeing what you post and create <3
ohhh these are fun questions :-) thank you!
question 1: i actually tried to do a visual novel first! but it is a LOT of work. i managed to do some sprites and a few backgrounds before i gave up. if i was to try and do it again i'd have to pay another artist to join me which just isn't feasible for me right now. i suppose the things i like about IF could be applied to VNs too, but i like what interactive fiction adds to whatever narrative you're trying to tell. the medium itself is a part of the story, if that makes sense. it can't exist without the main character who can't exist without a player to guide them. i like giving the player choices & i like taking them away. i like how vast the genre is, and i like seeing how other people use the mechanics and code to pull off some really interesting & unique stories.
question 2: hmmm i think what gets hard for me is just fatigue... when you write big branching narratives, you have to write a lot of tedious shit, hahaha. like currently with blood choke i've been working on the same conversation for about 3 weeks. there are dozens of variations of it, depending on who the mc is, what choices they've made, and how the other character feels about them, and whether or not the mc went with her or went with someone else means the conversation has to be shuffled around elsewhere in the chapter, and it's all extremely extremely tedious. it feels like you're writing so much, but it's literally just one conversation, one scene in the entire chapter. but you have to write it about 20 times. so it's easy in IF to run out of steam very quickly. i definitely think that's what happened with me with tnp, i hit a huge block after writing all of the combat variations in ch2, i was just so exhausted & knowing that i would have to write even more complex scenes at the end of the chapter accounting for all of it was very demoralizing. BUT i feel like my long break has helped quite a bit and i am excited to get back into tnp next month 😈
question 3: this one is tough... i'm not really sure, to be honest. i've been here for a while now and i feel pretty comfortable for the most part. i was a reader & a lurker before i started writing so i got to see a lot of the way other readers treat writers before i became one, which was helpful for me. i think if i could go back i'd tell myself that this was going to be a way bigger project than i anticipated. and also tell myself that this is my hobby and i should be having fun, not stressing or worrying about making money or pleasing other people. of course i want people to like my work and i appreciate their support, but that shouldn’t be the only reason why i'm writing… i’m writing because i want to.

Hello Tumblr! This is a blog for my new visual novel, Celestial Crowns.
I’m not giving up on Arena Circus, but I need to take a little break and this idea has been on the back burner for a while.
So please stay tuned for sprites, excerpts, and more!
Premise:
Celestial Crowns is a medieval fantasy/romance visual novel that features political drama, war, magic, and more! Set in a world where they worship the stars, play as the king or queen of the kingdom of [unnamed], newly crowned after your father has passed. With the kingdom on unsteady ground, the king of your neighboring kingdom [unnamed] has an offer you can’t ignore:
Marry him, or go to war.
(wasn’t supposed to rhyme oh well xD)
Features
Based on the current outline, I’m guestimating this will be a little over 100,000 words.
30,000 (estimate) words per each unique route. Every love interest has their own story that will greatly change and take you to new locations, and allow you to meet new people.
3 love interests
9 endings currently planned
Side sprite MC
Side character sprites
Optional 18+ scenes
Choose your personality: Your choices will add stats to the MCs personality. Mix and match different traits to shape different scenes and find your ending. (Players can choose choices based on 9 different traits:
Strengths: Confident, practical, witty
Flaws: Impulsive, naive, spoiled
Rule: Aggressive, strategic, gentle)
Endless replayability: As you shape your destiny choices are never locked out. Your choices will continue to unlock different facets of the MCs personality, offering a variety of directions for the story to twist and turn.
Specs
Commercial game
In-game hint version
Guide will be available
Customization
I’m currently playing around with how far I want to go with customization for the MC. So far you can change their body type and pronouns.
Conclusion
I’m very excited for this game and hoping it inspires me to dive back into the VN world. I’ve been gone for so long and I really need something fresh to give me that kick in the rear.
Hopefully you guys are just as excited as I am!
I will make the tumblr prettier as I create more art for this WIP.

Ended up suddenly getting a wave of inspiration and getting back into making that VN game!
Remaking the sprites AGAIN cause I realized how shite they looked, can't post that here cause I don't trust tumblr with my art anymore but oh well, they certainly look a bit better and less bare bones imo
Thinking of giving them new outfits in each part, it'd make it a teeny bit more natural, but that would involve a lot more drawing... on top of plotting everything out in twine and trying to make it all hook together in renpy... hmm....
Getting some ideas for part 2... thing is I'm not sure how to go about that. Like what do I release part 1 and then part 2 later, but will the saves be affected???
Also wanna make a couple sections have clickable elements on the pics to make it a bit less boring cause there's one part where you have to go back and forth till you get to one particular location and if you were just supposed to do that through text that'd get monotonous verrrrry quickly lol
Also thinking of trying to implement a simple puzzle mechanic! This isn't supposed to be an actual "detective" game but I do think it'd add a lil bit of fun :> ENRICHMENT

✨ Chronotopia Spotlight 15 - Lys, guardian of memories✨
🔴 1 DAY LEFT BEFORE RELEASE 🔴
Tumblr media
Lys' in-game sprite, by Anako. She looks cute but you'd better not piss her off!
After explaining the whole purgatory concept, let's finally tackling the cute but intriguing guardian of the place: Lys.
Lys was originally a minor character in a VN I had planned to make. Weirdly enough, I grew fond of her & decided to give her a special power: she can slip into the background of other TM games 🐱‍👤.
Tumblr media
Lys' concept art (Anako). She's meant to be Little Red Riding Hood~
She quickly became the best candidate to become the lost soul's guide as: ⚰️ she's the only character able to go in & out of the Graveyard 📚 she doesn't have a story of her own
And that’s how she ended up in Chronotopia even though she was only supposed to make cameos!
Tumblr media
Meeting Lys for the very first time is always something~
You could consider the whole purgatory segment as just pure writer’s intellectual pleasure. I just find it fun that a game which explores forgotten fairytales would be made of pieces of my own forgotten stories 😄.

Late Night Talks with Noah
So whilst I do some outfit redesigns for my sprites, I thought I'd post some of the lil short fics/stories I've written as warm-ups when I've been writing Ever After!
They are non-canon, as in they aren't included in the vn itself, but are just little and hopefully cute scenes written from the perspective of a particular gender-neutral MC who I just refer to as Saint for now.
They're more casually written but hopefully, people enjoy these lil moments! <3
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
There it was again. The footsteps.
The first night when I was woken by the sound, I'd grabbed the protective dagger from under my pillow and held it close to my chest under the covers. I waited for longer than I can measure for the potential assassins I had been warned of, but none came. The second night I'd climbed out of bed, dagger in hand, some dubious looking red liquid that a priestess said can be used for defence, in the other. Only to find an absence of anything when I opened the door. The third night, tonight, however, I was ready.
I'd been sitting by the door since before the time I usually went to sleep, and had been waiting patiently. I don't know what it was, but I was almost certain that the footsteps would return eventually, and this time I was going to find the source.
So when the sound of heavy steps broke the silence of the night, I was up in an instant, weapons in position to defend and attack as I swung open the heavy door and lunged forward.
"S-Saint!" Large hands grabbed my shoulders stopping me in place, but it wasn't the force of his grip that caused me to freeze, but rather the all too familiar voice who called my name.
"Noah?" I look up to meet the panicked expression of the Holy Knight Commander, whose eyes were somehow brighter than the illuminating stone he'd dropped onto the floor. His thoughts were always written all over his face, and I could almost watch in real time as he started to worry about the worst. Before I could let him spiral away, my dagger fell to the floor with a loud clang, and my hands brushed against his cheeks (even if it was a bit of a stretch), causing him to almost turn into a statue. Stubble scratched against my thumb, as it stroked back and forth gently, soothing Noah as he processed the shock that the unexpected gesture of softness caused him.
I almost go rigid myself, when instead of smiling brightly whilst simultaneously pulling back behind his usual boundary lines, he leaned into it, his golden eyes fluttering shut as the softest of smiles settled on his face. His own hand finds purchase on mine, and he doesn't remove it like I'd expected, instead he just holds it there, encompassing my hand in the warmth that radiates from him.
"What are you doing here?" I have to stop my voice from going all twisted, for some reason I'm the nervous one. I'm so used to him being the one to get flustered from any display of affection, that it didn't cross my mind that he could affect me too, even unintentionally.
"Oh," My question broke the spell between us, and he pulls back with a nervous laugh, scratching the back of his neck as he looks away. There's an uncomfortable coldness that lingers in my hand after the contact is broken, but I can only shake it off for now. "Well, I guess, the story is I suppose, um…" he continues, there's a sheepishness in his voice as he stalls for him, he can't lie for the life of him, nor does he try to, but he still gets embarrassed admitting things. "I've been getting back home pretty late, things leading up to my appointment have been really busy y'know? But by the time I get home you're usually asleep, which is not your fault at all, I'd much rather you get sleep because you deserve it, I just, it's meant I haven't been able to spend any time with you the past few days and I really enjoy spending time with you, so I end up outside your room just in case you're awake, but I haven't been able to bring myself to knock so I just leave, which makes every worse and--"
"Noah!" I have to almost shout to be heard over his ramble, and I can only hope that I haven't disturbed a bunch of sleeping people, but it luckily stops his spiralling ramble in an instant. I can only sigh fondly, unable to fight against the smile that comes from seeing his teary puppy dog face. There'd been a part of me that considered telling him off for scaring me the past two nights, but looking at him now, waiting patiently for me to speak, and worrying completely about me… well… there was no way I could be mad at him for this. "I'm thirsty, shall we go make some hot chocolate?"
"What?" It took everything not to laugh at the blatant disbelief in his tone.
"Hot chocolate, surely you've heard of it? Or is my big Saintly impact going to be introducing a hot beverage to the world?"
"I've heard of it," his shock dissolved to make way for the laughter that falls from his lips, "sorry it was just unexpected Sunshine, I can get some brought to you if you'd like?"
"Nope, it's not the same as making it ourselves, now are you coming with me? Or are you too tall to fit into the kitchen?" Hands went firmly onto my hips, so he'd know I wasn't budging on the matter, but all that did was make him snort into laughter even more. So much so that he had to quickly cover his mouth with a large fist and look away. Still, that wouldn't faze me in the slightest.
As his laughter faded, he looked back with the softest eyes, like the gentlest of early morning sunrises were captured within them. Then with the warm smile I knew all too well, he held out his arm for me to take. "Now what kind of knight would I be if I turned down your request? I'll risk knocking my head against the ceiling any time for you Sunshine."
The walk down the two flights of stairs to the kitchen a quiet one, as we both did our best to not disturb the rest of the mansion. I'd forced Noah to give up his boots part way, though he hadn't put up much argument, except for expressing a small disappointment into having to let go of my arm. We may have also had to hide from the head butler, who would certainly have at the least looked at our adventure with extreme disapproval. Other than that however, we got there completely safely.
"So what's first?" Noah asked once the illumination stones in the room had been activated, making it much easier to see the equipment and ingredients that had been carefully tidied earlier that evening.
"Nothing!" I throw a grin over my shoulder at his look of confusion, "for you at least, you just sit there and rest and I'm going to do it myself!"
"But--"
"No buts, it's a fine art, hot chocolate making, and I can't give away all my secrets just yet."
"I'm sorry, I had no idea you took hot chocolate making so seriously." He was failing to hide the laughter again. A part of me wished he wouldn't hold it back so much, it was always a joyous and musical sound.
"Of course I do, though I suppose you do have one very important job to do for me."
"Hm?"
"Well usually I'd have music, or a podcast, but since I don't have either of them, I'll need your help to keep me entertained."
"You want me to just… talk?"
"Or sing."
"Talking it is. What would your podcasts usually talk about?" There was genuine curiosity in his voice. Noah had never asked questions about Earth before unless I'd brought it up first. Even though he wanted to know, the concern over upsetting me with memories of a place I'd had to leave behind, far outweighed his interest in another world.
"A lot of different things really, sometimes about books, games, theories, others just spoke about what they enjoyed or were passionate about. Others spoke about places they'd travelled to, and I'd imagine what it was like to be there myself."
I busied myself finding the ingredients and settling in place before the stove, as I let the silence settle. I knew him well enough by this point to know he was lost in thought. He'd speak when he was ready.
"It was a long time ago now, actually it was when I was a boy, long before I came to Archelia, and I don't even remember the name of the place, but I remember that I'd had an argument with my dad, and me being young and stupid and with enough pocket money saved up from chores, I thought if I ran away I'd be completely fine on my own. So, I set out with no clear destination in mind, grabbed the nearest form of transport and just… head off. I had to switch a couple of times on the way, and it used up nearly all my money, but when I was kicked off, I just kept walking and walking and walking, until I ended up on this small beach that was more pebbles than sand. It was the dead of winter, and it was absolutely baltic and in my overconfidence I hadn't brought my scarf or gloves, so I was freezing my socks off, but the ocean was so pretty and moon gave everything this opal-like glow that I didn't even care. I walked back and forth over that beach for ages, searching through the pebbles, and I found this really cool looking pebble that had been chipped away at and in my eyes looked like the sun. Side note, it looked nothing like the sun, I just think I was delirious at that point. Anyway, I just remember wishing my dad was there for me to show him, I'd forgotten why we'd even argued, so then I started to cry because I thought that I'd never get back home with no money left. But before proper tears could even fall, my dad rushes over, worrying that I'm hurt. Apparently he'd followed me the whole way, but wanted to let me have this journey on my own terms, which is why he'd never dragged me back. I don't remember much else, except for on the way home we got hot chocolate from a local café, even though he hated it cause it was too sweet."
Noah met my eyes, which had been watching him for a while as he'd told the story, and as he realised how much he'd spoken without pause caused him to flush crimson.
"I-I guess I just remembered that story since it was the last time I had hot chocolate until now."
"Your dad sounds really sweet," I said softly, walking over with two steaming mugs, "maybe that's why he couldn't handle anymore sweetness from the hot choc."
"Maybe that's it," he laughed, though he didn't give it his all, and the redness didn't fully leave his features.
"Did you ever keep the rock that looked like the sun? I'd love to see it." I hopped up to sit on the counter beside where he leaned, and for the first time I was at his height, or at least closer to eye level. Noah picked up one of the mugs in an attempt to distract himself with something to divert part of his focus to.
"Sadly I lost it, but hey I found you, and you're definitely more like the sun than it'd ever be." There it was again, that smile. I couldn't help but be reassured every time it fell back onto his face, he almost looked wrong without it. I picked up my own mug, covered in marshmallows and cream, and almost spilled it everywhere when there was a small weight that landed on my shoulder. Luckily it was safe, and the source was identified as Noahs' head that now rested on my shoulder.
For a while, nothing was said, but the silence wasn't uncomfortable. Noah had a knack for making sure everyone else was okay and felt alright, but this was different, it was the peaceful comfort of companions. He was probably the only person in this crazy, magical world I could trust, and as happy as he tried to make everyone else, as happy as he tried to make me… I wanted to be able to do the same for him.
I stared into my now empty mug, my voice was no louder than a murmur. "Noah?"
"Yes Sunshine?" He didn't move off my shoulder, though that might have been because I rested my own head atop of his.
"You know what you were saying earlier? Upstairs?"
"… yeah?" My lips upturned at the embarrassment in the single word as he remembered his ramblings.
"I missed you too."
He said nothing in reply, instead his hand took mine and gently squeezed, and that was enough for me to know he'd heard. My eyes fell closed as time slowly crept on, and we stayed like that for a little longer.

My earliest memories of the VN are a little hazy because a lot has happened since then, but I'll try to share the bits and pieces that I do recall. ---
One of the first things I did was compile voice clips in order to have a comprehensive credits list. This included sifting through dialogue compilations. The characters' quotes then shaped ideas for plot beats and informed the kind of narrative it would become. In the earliest draft which... hadn't really been written at the time, but was 90% locked away in my head, the plan was to have Sonic help settle a dispute between Shadow and Rouge following a failed apprehension of some bank robbers. Their chapter would have paralleled Tails and Knuckles' in that two characters approach Sonic instead of just one. Not sure where their chapter would have fit into the overall narrative, but I'd guess around mid-afternoon, just before early evening, when Cream's chapter begins. I couldn't find anything viable in David Humphrey's voice clips, and Jason Griffith's sounded... for lack of a better word, a little too mean-spirited to use. It would have made Shadow seem as though he were raking Rouge over the coals instead of being a little annoyed and aloof. So then I was like, "Maybe I should set this aside for now." Eventually, as Knuckles', Cream's, and Amy's chapters grew in size, I decided it would have dragged the plot out for too long to include Shadow and Rouge's story, and hence cut it. --- The first draft was supposed to have the player take Sonic's place instead of Eggman. The implication being that Eggman somehow separated Sonic's sprite from his dialogue variable and is attempting to control Sonic's "shell" through manipulating the player. As time went on, I realized this was a difficult concept to convey properly. It would have also probably broken immersion to dictate the player's reaction after rendering them a silent entity for most of the game. That's why the switch was then changed to a more direct one between Sonic and Eggman. The player is instead given silent involvement where ultimately their say matters more than Sonic's or even Eggman's. The act of choice demonstrates the sheer power imbalance that exists between the characters and the player who directs them. ---
Eggman's "bad ending" speech was the first thing I worked on, which took about 15 minutes to speedread (so... maybe 30 minutes of regular reading?). It's not "truly" present in the current version of the game, though part of it is there in some form; it just requires a little digging to find. About half of the original speech is preserved in base64 when Sonic's dialogue gets deleted and replaced with barcode. You can see the base64 in the script. During the Good ending where everyone shows up to the surprise party, Sonic calls back to this speech. Eggman is confused because this implies Sonic can read his narration despite several layers of encryption, mirroring Eggman's ability to read Sonic's narration. --- The rave cave was originally supposed to take place at Amy's house, when Eggman would have flooded the place with raving Egg Pawns. All that hawt robot mosh pit action would have carried Sonic out the door and tossed him onto the lawn.
--- The final game has just two routes and many looping choices. A third route where the graphics driver fails, causing Sonic and co.'s sprite textures to fail to load, and an angry overworked Eggman assigning you the task of retrieving the lost textures before the end of the workday got scrapped as well.

Carrot! I’m in existential identity crisis, and have no idea what i want to study in future, considering that i’m supposed to apply for university in a few month. I was thinking a lot about choosing programming study program, and i wanted to ask you, how did you get started coding novels? Can you tell me some advices about where to start, video lessons, how to understand code, some programs to use? Any of that would be really helpful! Thank you!!
Oh, gosh! I'm so sorry that you're going through such a tough and confusing time. I was similar when I was in school and ended up changing majors multiple times and even going back to get a second BA (and also even now the work I do has nothing to do with what I got my degrees in... lol). It feels so impossible trying to figuring out what you want to do in life (and it can change so often...) 💦
Mmmm. I didn't have much coding knowledge at all before I started working on OW. (I also don't think it requires much knowledge just to start doing simple stuff in it—and I still don't think I have much knowledge even now LOL). I remember it felt really overwhelming and confusing at first, so I kinda took it slow and did a lot of my initial attempts in steps?? And from there slowly started to get more familiar with it and learn more and more. Let me try to explain:
The first thing I did before coding anything was write the script. I had about half of Arc 1 finished before I even thought about making it into a game, so I just had it written in my writing software.
I decided to see how it would look in a very simple VN format using Ren'Py. To learn how to start using Ren'Py, I played through the tutorial game included in Ren'Py that teaches you a lot of the basic functions. I remember this was really overwhelming because it teaches you quite a lot of things quite quickly—and when you don't know anything at all, it's so much to take in. So I tried to start simply using ONLY THE VERY BASIC STUFF:
My initial prototype only included text, backgrounds, music, and sound effects. So I only focused on the code required for those things, so basically, the code for displaying an image (defining it using image then showing it using show), for showing text on the screen (I just defined a single "actor" with basic formatting and used that for all the text), and for playing music and sound effects (the play music and play sound commands).
By only focusing on these bits, I was able to simplify it enough that I could understand it. And so then I began copy-pasting my script in line by line while creating basic BGs using royalty free photos, finding royalty free sound effects, and adding the music (I already had a collection of royalty free music I'd found for the game).
As I worked on it, I got more familiar with it and began to understand how different bits of it worked, learning new things such as pauses, screen shakes, etc., that I could also add in. Whenever there was something I didn't know how to do (for instance, zooming/cropping an image, creating variables for keeping track of player choices, etc., I would just look up on Google and could usually find something in the LemmaSoft forums).
Once this initial prototype was made and I was loving how it looked, I decided to go all-in on the game and actually start creating art for it! This was when I started drawing the character sprites, CGs, etc. Because I already was familiar with the basic coding stuff, it wasn't hard for me to then apply what I knew to making the sprites and CGs appear on screen (since it's all just using the image and show commands, and maybe moving them around using stuff like ease).
Only once I had made a lot of progress on art and more writing and scripting did I even think about tackling things like the GUI, since that requires some more advanced coding stuff. I remember the video tutorial I used to start figuring out how to do the title screen for instance was this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zq3V28qp2w&ab_channel=ZeilLearnings
That took me pretty much to the release of Arc 1! Then as I kept working on subsequent arcs, I kept getting even more familiar with things, and would also try out new things I could do to create various scene effects.
Then when Spooktober came around for some reason I decided to try a ton of different things and really go wild. I definitely learned the most during that month LOL However, it was all built on skills I'd slooooooowly been building basically throughout the course of the whole year. Even doing research itself is a skill tbh. Like being able to figure out kind of in your head what you need to do something to locate what it is you don't know, then knowing how to research that thing and parse out the solution so it will work in your version of the code, etc. And I was only comfortable handling that for more advanced stuff because I'd done it so many times before just figuring out more simple stuff.
Tbh tho literally none of what I have in any of my games is very advanced, it's all just a ton of things moving on the screen in different ways and at different times
Hmmm I have no idea if that long rambly thing I just wrote is very helpful LOL Those were all the resources I used tho: the tutorial game in Ren'Py, that video I shared for the title screen, tons and tons of Google searches and the LemmaSoft forums.
But I really feel like the biggest thing that helped and made things manageable for me was breaking it down. Like, I don't know if I would have managed it if I'd tried to start right away with art and sprites and do everything all at once. I needed to start with that very simple prototype with only a few necessary commands so I could get familiar with it first, and only after that, start working on art and add it in. Breaking it down into small simple pieces really helped my brain so much! (And also was more motivating, as I could create the prototype quite quickly and already get really excited by how it looked even with just BGs and music, which inspired and motivated me to keep working. Whereas if I'd had to wait and take all the energy to draw all the art first, too, I might have gotten overwhelmed and demotivated.)
Those are all the things I PERSONALLY did to learn how to code my game. However, since I began, even more resources have become available that will probably help even more and be a lot more accessible. The biggest one I can think of is Vimi's YouTube channel, which has a ton of very basic tutorials for getting started in Ren'Py and just a ton of stuff about making and coding VNs in general. I feel like this could be super helpful for you!! https://www.youtube.com/@vimi
There are also other programs for creating visual novels, for instance, Naninovel allows you to create VNs in Unity, though since Unity uses C#, you will need to learn some of that I think?? Ren'Py uses Python, though for basic scripting it's not really actual Python and more just very basic Ren'Py script or something. You will need Python though to get into some of the more advanced stuff you can do with the GUI and menus and such though (or if you want to do anything much more advanced like add mini games).
I hope this helps you at least a bit! But if you have any questions about anything specific, don't hesitate to ask!!!

To ur last question: Komaedalovemail is more of a scenario where Komaeda is.. His own fucking thing!!
like, he's a species, there are deities HECK EVEN HINATA IS THERE AS A HUMAN BABY!!
it has a neocities and a tumblr blog and btw.. THERE'S A NEW KLM PAGE!!!! you can find most of the pages except /jar and the yaoimas 2022 page on the KLM portal soooo yeah!
Oh yeah and it does have a dating sim where you can hang out with mods n stuff!!
some of the dating sim routes:
- Mod 1
- Mod 13
- Mod 16
- Mod 18
There's also other mods in the thing like:
- mod 200
- mod 43
- mod 12
- mod 428 (the most well known mod cuz he's the clownmaeda guy btw, you see him on the page /hollow where you talk to him at a cafe)
- mod 33(this guy's pretty prevalent in the thanksgiving visual novel cuz the whole thing is about him getting surgery n stuff lolz)
Oh yeah, about the thanksgiving VN:
Mods in THIS thing:
- Mod 44 ( the guy visiting 33/jabley)
- DR Komaeda ( guy who's gonna give 33/jabley surgery)
- Mod 33 himself!!
There's also /deceit, which is a continuation to /hollow:
This page is the one where Mod 1862 talks to Komaedeus again and komaedeus tells 1862 that Gromaeda isn't a deity nor the creator of komaedakind.
Oh yeah and (extra info):
- Mod 19 & 16 r furries and have their own fursonas and also 18 has a ponysona
- Mod 43 is russian
- Mod 18 got horse surgery and also the dating sim might take place before the horse surgery
- mods 16,19,18,4,12,128 n 16 have their own artstyles with only 16, 18, 4 & 12 having drawn their sprites while the others are komaeda sprites edited
- mod 200 is scared of little men
-apparently, kokichi is bad (according to them)
- mod 12, 19, 18 n 16 have rocksonas
- chefmaeda accidentally cooked fetus hinata thinking he was raw chicken
- Dr komaeda has an attic in the 2bedroom2bathroom house the mods live in (aka the 2bed2bath)
- mod 4 drew the yaoimas 2022 komahina thing as seen at the end of the forum there's mod 4 profile with an embed 2 the yaoimas art
- there are 3 komaedeuses: Earth, Shadows n Trees
- Gromaeda has Groucho glasses and was I think the supposed "leader" of the mods and he grew clothes for the mods too
- if you take off 428's nose in time on the page /clown, you see a weird skull thing with a mouth
- Gromaeda stopped MK-33 aka Mod 33 becoming what he was supposed to be
- There's A Komaeda Proper, A Komaeda where the mods are from
- There's Also Venus, weird serpent thingy I liek her
- Young Mods are Komaedalings that are like, just komaeda's hair n stuff
- there's mod Ibuki, who mod 13 speculates is human
- komaedaling is also an affectionate term for a human as seen in the 2bed2bath dating sim
- komaedeus of the earth sat on a rock in a cave in a prison for a long time he also has sickles and told 1862 to say hi to cuckmaeda
- speaking of CUCKMAEDA: cuckmaeda was in the cellar n stuff and absorbed all the mods and burst through the roof of the 2bed2bath in The Final Lovemail video
- shrinkmaeda exists and probably works with gromaeda cuz komaedeus said "and shrinkmaeda,.. Their devil" or whatever
- Clowns are REAAAALLLY prevalent in the lore
- before the horse surgery, mod 18 was a cat thing and had a mobile gacha game addiction as seen in the 2bed2bath dating sim
Sorry if this is really long I just wanna give you all the info I can!! ^^
Oh yeah and also Shita Ni Shimizu from Bell Of Dreams by Kikuo somehow sorta also give s off a komaegi vibe ig
I am so so very late at this response by if that aint an in depth lore explanation over something I didn’t know existed and am now more confused about because I have so many questions, then I don’t know what is. Are these all those Komaeda accounts then? Like Komaeda420 one and stuff? Or is that just…another Nagito themed thing in itself…?
The internet is a surreal place.

untitled VN devlog #1
i just need to feel the progress of my efforts right now lmao
so far I've drafted ~3500 words for the intro. part of that is one of the bachelor's starting routes. I have two more to go that I'm planning on before releasing this first part of the game. So it'll probably be rather short, but I want players to have the ability to meet the three of them in whatever order they like.
I have begun concept sketches but as I'm about to lose my CSP membership, I will have to make the switch to Krita and familiarize myself with that program. I have already played around with designing the dialogue box in game. Here's a sneak peek! (❁´◡`❁)
Tumblr media
I wanted to go for something kind of artsy and kind of simple. Originally it was going to be bold orange and blue and look more like elements of modern geographic art designs, but I scrapped that idea.
I'm working more every day to flesh out the three bachelors and make their separate stories each unique and interesting in their own way. I hope everyone will come to love them as I do, hahaha.
I don't know if I'll be able to show any sprite work in the coming month, given that I'll be getting a consult for double hand surgery and I'm not sure when that will take place. My tentative goal right now is sometime around the end of winter, beginning of spring for the first part to be released.
As of now, it remains untitled until I can get a better idea of the overall story haha. I also don't plan on making the sprites move dynamically, at least not in this game. They'll be pretty static with only the blinking involved. I'd like to include more dynamic posing in later projects, but for now, I'd like this one to just be rather simple and more focused on the story I suppose.
It is going to be choice heavy and will be geared toward adults in the 25-35 age range. The game will assume your MC is at least 27, at most 35, due to the age of the bachelors themselves (33, 35, and 37). I wanted to make a game with kind-of-older bachelors, or at least an age range I haven't seen offered in a dating sim (for free) yet. There are no horror or yandere elements, this is specifically a wholesome and warm comfort game with adult life themes (heavier feelings of guilt, grief, and loneliness really), but nothing too extreme.
This was really wordy and long but if you read it, I very much appreciate it and hope you look forward to it. <3 As I'm working on this, I'm also rolling ideas in my head for a Duplicity Reboot. More on that later.
As always, take care bunnies <3

Hi! I remembered something kind of wild about Lovewood's sprites, and I just had to go back and check...
Tumblr media
... which is that I actually rendered all of these sprites as fullbodies. For some reason. Even though I only used the cropped-from-the-waist-up version in the game.
I honestly have no idea why I did it like that, I suppose I was still new to VN-making and wanted to make sure I had options. (But also, look at those adorable candy-cane tights on Nord. Gosh!!)
Even though this added unnecessary workload, I think it also accidentally did a very good thing: It made the poses more dynamic by incorporating the entire gesture! This is something I only realized very recently; that the leg and foot positioning can influence the vibe of the whole posture a lot. It effectively gives you a larger line of action to consider.
When you only draw a pose from the waist up from the start, it may be harder for your art brain to extrapolate the rest, and the result may look more stiff. At least that happens to me a lot.
This is a valuable insight! Since I would like to also amp up my pose game for the sprites in the current WIP mystery project (The work title is "Lunchbreaks"), I could sketch out the poses for each character sprite as fullbodies before cropping them for rendering. The best of both worlds!

Your sprite work is so cute, while still managing to be expressive! I think that in itself is an undervalued skill. Nowadays a lot of vn's tend to have more generic non creator made sprites (think new wtc installments), but I really think it adds to the charm of the work, and lends itself to better creating athmosphere since you yourself know firsthand. I suppose the exeption would be fate, most likely since takeuchi had been stated to draw solely for nasu's sake (somewhat homoerotically)
aw ty!!

heaven knows you postmortem
Tumblr media
hi! i’m drinkrust. i made a kinetic novel called heaven knows you back in july together with my dear friend Enzo. it was the first time i ever made a game, even if some don’t consider a visual novel with no choices a game (i kinda do). now that i’m a few months removed from the process of making it, i feel like i can better look back at my experience with the project.
heaven knows you was made in 15 days for VN Cup, which was a yuri game jam that had some people from team cpu behind it. it was because of them that i ended up hearing about it. i love archangel:nemesis and instantly got interested when i saw the jam announcement. even better: it seemed like something feasible. i was surprised to see a bunch of artists i really admire were also going to make a VN for it, so the pressure started to build up. it was especially frightening since our artstyle was pretty different from the other projects in there. it's kinda traditionally cartooney with thick lineart and angular faces. even though i was nervous, i think it made me more compelled to actually finish the game.
VN Cup had few restrictions: the VN had to be less than an hour long, have no choices and be yuri as hell. that was it. for someone with absolutely 0 programming experience, it was also helpful to know that the engine we’d be using was ren’py, which is made for babies like me to understand without much trouble. that was it. why not make my first game there? my main problem was that i was a completely awful artist. like, really, i’ll show a few of my pieces in a few paragraphs. so i talked to my friend Enzu which is an extremely talented artist with many cool potential artstyles and he agreed to help out. during the 15 days we had to develop hny, he had work and college and i had some freelancing stuff to work on and also college, so we had less than ideal free time.
still, we managed to pull on with only one or two days of crunch!! i mean, that could’ve probably been avoided, but i personally did not know what the hell i was doing most of the time… so i can prolly avoid it in the future if i can help it. Enzo had a lot of work to do as well: multiple backgrounds and 7 character sprites, three detailed ones and four silhouettes, all with a full range of expressions. he also did the logos and part of the graphic design.
i got a bit ahead of myself. what is heaven knows you?? well, it’s the final manifestation of an idea that had been floating around my head for a long while. it’s first draft in my head was that of a first person dungeon crawler where you played as an adventurer that got stuck in a castle with witches that were waiting hundreds of years to seal a person there to execute a spell to open one’s mind. so, basically the same idea that ended up on the final game. but the tone was drastically different, and it was going to be more of an adventure-puzzle dungeon crawler thingy. the witches were going to be unhelpful and barely talk, and there was *probably* not going to have any romance.
so i started thinking about ways to make it work as a yuri VN, and it kinda just wrote itself. one of the witches is Selena, and she even had some sprites already done that i could use for inspiration for the eventual redesign. in the original dungeon crawler version she was going to be a mysterious character that forgot how to comunicate properly with humans because she was stuck in the upper section of the castle without talking to the rest of her coven. brace yourself for her icon below.
Tumblr media
her hair was supposed to look withered and her face scary and pale because of how recluse she was. a perfect fit for the love interest of my newly conceptualized VN! Enzo redesigned her with his style while inspired by Deep Sea Prisoner’s games and my insane references, which gave her a more welcoming and charming look. i think her design in hny makes her come off as clumsy as well which is nice.
as for the protagonist, Inno, i wanted her to be androgynous and represent the culture and look of the people of the fictional city she came from, Calandria. her and Tara’s outfit were inspired by the weirdo retrofuturistic take on clothing from the early Phantasy Star games.
i wanted Inno to be a little annoying at first. someone who’s ghosted her friends and justified to herself that abandoning most of her connections in order to forge a path alone was worth it. one of the themes is making her realize that, you know, that was a mistake and all. she’s that kind of simple and curious protagonist that works well for this kind of story, but with a little dumb edge that (in my mind at least) makes her a bit more active in the plot.
her and Selena are kinda similar in how they aren’t thaat great at talking, but each have their own quirks. writing their interactions was pretty easy because of their dynamic. but then there’s the rest of the coven, which is made of extremely ambitious witches that dealt with their situation stuck at the castle way better than Selena, and started to bully her.
they were all completely created by Enzo, and i like their presence in the story! they’re mean out of boredom, mostly, and i tried to make the way they teased Selena to not be completely awful. they’re not bad guys, but they do fuel some conflict throughout the plot. i wish i had written more for them…
then there’s Tara, a character that i won’t really talk about much because she only shows up near the end. she’s a weird one.
writing the whole thing was an extremely fun endeavor, but damn it was tiring. there are many pieces which i constantly altered up until the last day before the deadline, and i cut a bunch of stuff out to streamline it a bit. if i had known more ren’py before starting, i would’ve done some fancier tricks to shake up the visuals, but i had already spent a couple days just trying to figure character portraits out, so that was probably way out of reach.
honestly, i’m extremely happy that i could get one of my stories out there. i have a bunch just lying on my mind, and i wish to make them all one day. in my mind, heaven knows you was a great success. more than 60 people downloaded it!! like, getting people to take time out of their day to download my game was something i was straight up not expecting. i’ve made a bunch of art in different disciplines over the last eight years or so, and never before had this much attention to one of my first projects on it. it’s crazy.
now i really feel like digging deeper into the development side of videogames and making more stuff. first of all, i’ll update heaven knows you. there aren’t that many songs on it, so i’ll add a couple more. also, maybe better programming on some of the particularly barren sections. maybe more art as well? i wanna make a “post-jam” edition so that it becomes a more polished experience.
after that’s done, i’ll get deep into work on my next game project, which is a unity thing. i also wanna do a sequel to heaven knows you. it’s already mapped out, so maybe i’ll work on it before the unity project? oh no, this postmortem is turning into a diary. thanks for reading. bye!!! here’s an extra Selena artwork i did on my own weirdo artstyle a few months back!!!

have a to do list going currently, will copy/paste what's been done or in progress.
shade bb's base character art - did this, minus the eyebrows which i only realized after i started adding sprites to the vn sahdgsahg so i'm doing that now and spending the rest of the night overwriting the images i've already saved (okay. did that too)
finish all expressions - have all the components needed for expressions now as well as a good naming system for easy reference (instead of things like 'happy' 'sad' 'confused' etc cause some expressions i do not have names for. i don't wanna confuse myself lmao) - editing to add: an example of my naming system cause where "happy" & "happy grin" would be confusing for me... my version, being "bb_relaxed_j_dn_snsl_at" & "BBrelaxedJdnSNSLat" would be confusing for others. "ziemniak, relaxed pose, jacket, hood down, squint, neutral, smile, looking at you." in depth but easy for me to remember uwu
pose variation colouring and shading - got all the way to the shading but stopped after a bit to work on expressions, won't be long til i'm done
did some editing for prologue and chapter 1 - typos and a couple choices i forgot to add.
played with how i wanna add the characters into scenes and figured out what i want my "default" to be. will have to figure out what i want to do in certain scenes tho, but those scenes aren't even written yet so it's not a priority.
bb's lil smile
Tumblr media
will also upload a vid of the main menu animation at some point. maybe tonight idk, it's taking forever to upload to youtube
did that. also i made a little custom cursor! i think it's cute
other than all that, i've been adding the transitions i want with placeholders since i haven't made any bgs yet. it's starting to feel... like it's supposed to
i'm excited
i'll probably continue adding transitions for the rest of the night. besides that, i think i'm done for today

so i played through the whole of this game today. review incoming (i'll try not to spoil too much)
ive had this sitting in my downloads for a while now (no this isnt available on steam YET but it's free on itch.io so 👀👀) and i only got to it now. i initially got it bc of the whole tattoo artist x florist trope which is one of my fave tropes Ever and also bc i love tulips a normal amount (<- lying)
it's a kinetic visual novel, meaning theres actually no choices and it's basically just a bunch of clicking. and fangirling. the amount of times i thought Ya Allah during this was phenomenal. it was that cute
the mc, chrys (pronounced chris, it's supposed to be a reference to chrysanthemum) is this sarcastic white blonde twink who's so unlucky when it comes to romantic relationships and he just got out of a bad breakup and hes like I Am Never Dating Ever Again until one day the love interest, shay, who is this angelic tall hunk 6 pack-having guy walks into his flower shop then he thinks Nevermind I Am Going to Fuck the Living Daylights Out of This Guy
it's a bit of a slow burn i guess? they actually try to take it slow but like they end up getting together after a week so. and also another thing in the epilogue but i dont wanna spoil too much
the characters are all so goddamn loveable, from our beloved twink to even chrys' sister, daphne who only appeared for one scene. plenty relatable too. the amount of times i thought "they just like me fr" is insane. wish there were pets or animals or smth tho smh
the art is really nice, especially the character sprites and the flower shop itself but i find a few other locations a bit lacking, like the quality isnt that consistent. i mean i can kinda understand why? but it's just a bit of a nitpick. also i dont like granny's pose, it's weird, dont do her dirty like that
the voice acting is actually so good. sometimes it sounds a bit awkward but there are some moments that make up for the lesser moments. tho there were a few moments where i was like "why isnt this voiced??"
okay moving on to some of my actual complaints BUT i want to mention that i did download this a while ago like i said and i have no idea if my copy is the most updated one (it says 1.0 on the file so) so i wouldnt know if these issues have been fixed or not. but im gonna address them anyway
theres been a few times where the script/text looks... awkward? some dont align with the line delivery, some punctuations are just weird choices to make. and a lot of sentences end with a comma instead of a period
theres also this one scene where bea repeats a voiceline even tho the text is different. again, idk if they fixed it but it was glaringly obvious
but despite it all, it was a really really cute vn and i really do recommend it
FINAL RATING: 7.5/10
(author's note: i like calling it bpd simulator bc both chrys and shay are so bpd-coded to me)
