SEEK FORGIVENESS FROM ALLAH Subhanahu wa Ta’ala AND REPENT TO HIM
One of the ways we are taught to prepare for Ramadan is to fast in Shabaan, to recite Holy Qur’an in Shabaan and also to repent from our sins so that we enter Ramadan in the best of Imaan and make the best possible use of the blessed month.
In the last ten nights of Ramadan we are taught in the Sunnah to make this Du’a “Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun, tuhibbul-'afwa, fa'fu 'anni” (O. Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me).
We studied in the previous classes, the virtues of fasting in Shawaal and to be consistent with voluntary fasts throughout the year; and how the People who are consistent with reciting, understanding, implementing the Holy Qur’an are the people of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) . Similarly, we should make Istaghfaar a part of our daily lives, more so when Ramadan has passed, our guard is down and we are more vulnerable to sinning.
The Prophet ﷺ said, “By Allah, I seek forgiveness from Allah and I repent to him more than seventy times in a day.” (Sahih Bukhari)
When the Prophet ﷺ who Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) has promised forgiveness for any of his past and future sins asks for forgiveness 70 times a day, every day what are people like us with all the fitnah around us, so prone to sinning do. So we should make Istaghfaar a part of our daily Adhkaar.
REPENTANCE
‌ۚوَتُوبُوٓاْإِلَىٱللَّهِجَمِيعًاأَيُّهَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَلَعَلَّكُمۡتُفۡلِحُونَ
"And O believers, all of you, repent to Allah in order that you may be successful." [Al-Qur'an 24:31]
إِنَّٱللَّهَيُحِبُّٱلتَّوَّٲبِينَوَيُحِبُّٱلۡمُتَطَهِّرِينَ
"Verily, Allah loves those who repent and those who purify themselves." [Al-Qur'an 2:222]
يَـٰٓأَيُّہَاٱلَّذِينَءَامَنُواْتُوبُوٓاْإِلَىٱللَّهِتَوۡبَةً۬نَّصُوحًاعَسَىٰرَبُّكُمۡ
"O you who believe! Turn to Allah in sincere repentance!" [Al-Qur'an 66:8]
After the spiritual highs of Ramadan a Muslim’s faith tend to become weak and he may be overwhelmed by his desires. The Shaytaan may make sin attractive to him, so he wrongs himself (commits sin) and falls into that which Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) has forbidden. But Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) is Kind to His slaves, and His Mercy encompasses all things. Whoever repents after doing wrong, Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) will accept his repentance, for Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) is Forgiving and Merciful.
“But whosoever repents after his crime and does righteous good deeds (by obeying Allah), then verily, Allah will pardon him (accept his repentance). Verily, Allah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful” [al-Maa’idah 5:39 – interpretation of the meaning]
“O you who believe! Turn to Allah with sincere repentance! It may be that your Lord will expiate from you your sins, and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise)” [al-Tahreem 66:8]
The gate of repentance is open to His slaves, until the sun rises from the west. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) spreads out His Hand at night to accept the repentance of those who did wrong during the day, and He spreads out His Hand during the day to accept the repentance of those who did wrong during the night. (This will continue) until the sun rises from the west.” (Narrated by Muslim, no. 2759)
And how many people have repented to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) from numerous and enormous sins and Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) has accepted their repentance? Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) says:
"And those who do not supplicate to another god along with Allah, nor do they kill a person that Allah has made forbidden (to kill) except with just cause, nor do they commit fornication. And whoever does this shall receive the punishment. The torment will be doubled for him on the Day of Resurrection and he will abide therein in disgrace. Except those who repent and believe and do righteous deeds, for those, Allah will change their sins into good deeds. And Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful." [Al-Qur'an 25:68-70]
Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) commands us to repent so that He might forgive us. But the devils among mankind and the jinn want to turn people away from the truth and make them incline towards falsehood, as Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) says (interpretation of the meaning):
“Allah wishes to accept your repentance, but those who follow their lusts, wish that you (believers) should deviate tremendously away (from the Right Path)” [al-Nisaa’4:27]
Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) Loves those who repent
Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) is Kind to His slaves and loves those who repent. He accepts their repentance, as Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And He it is Who accepts repentance from His slaves, and forgives sins, and He knows what you do” [al-Shooraa 42:25]
“Truly, Allah loves those who turn unto Him in repentance and loves those who purify themselves” [al-Baqarah 2:222]
“Say to those who have disbelieved, if they cease (from disbelief), their past will be forgiven” [al-Anfaal 8:38]
Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) is Forgiving and Merciful, and He loves the repentance of His slaves. Man is weak. If a person sins then he has to repent and seek forgiveness every time. Allah is Forgiving and Merciful, and He is the One Who says (interpretation of the meaning):  “And whoever does evil or wrongs himself but afterwards seeks Allah’s forgiveness, he will find Allah Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful” [al-Nisaa’ 4:110]
The Muslim is vulnerable to making mistakes and sins. So he has to repent and seek forgiveness repeatedly. The Prophet (SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam) said: “By Allah, I seek the forgiveness of Allah and I turn to Him in repentance more than seventy times each day.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, no. 6307)
Allah loves the repentance of His slaves, and accept it. Indeed, He rejoices over it, as the Prophet ﷺ said: “When a person repents, Allah rejoices more than one of you who found his camel after he lost it in the desert.” (Agreed upon. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, no. 6309)
SINCERE REPENTANCE AND ITS CONDITIONS
Sincere repentance is not merely the matter of words spoken on the tongue. Rather, the acceptance of repentance is subject to the condition that the person gives up the sin straight away, that he regrets what has happened in the past, that he resolves not to go back to the thing he has repented from, that he restores people’s rights or property if his sin involved wrongdoing towards others, and that he repents before the agony of death is upon him. Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) says (interpretation of the meaning):
“Allah accepts only the repentance of those who do evil in ignorance and foolishness and repent soon afterwards; it is they whom Allah will forgive and Allah is Ever All-Knower, All-Wise.
And of no effect is the repentance of those who continue to do evil deeds until death faces one of them and he says: ‘Now I repent;’ nor of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful torment” [al-Nisaa’ 4:17-18]
Allah accepts repentance and is Merciful. He calls sinners to repent, so that He might forgive them:
“…your Lord has written (prescribed) Mercy for Himself, so that if any of you does evil in ignorance, and thereafter repents and does righteous good deeds (by obeying Allah), then surely, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful” [al-An’aam 6:54 – interpretation of the meaning]
Sincere repentance must meet five conditions (in order to be accepted), which are:
Sincerity to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala), the Most High: This is by the person doing it only for the sake of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) and seeking His reward and salvation from His punishment.
Remorse: for the sin that was committed, such that he is sad he did it and wishes he had never done it. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Remorse is repentance.” (Reported by Ahmad and Ibn Maajah;Saheeh al-Jaami’, 6802).
Ceasing: to commit the sin immediately. If the sin was against Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala), then he should a) stop doing it if it was an unlawful act, or b) hasten to do it if it was an obligation that he abandoned doing. And if the sin was against a created being (such as humans), then he should hasten to free himself from it, whether by returning it back to him or seeking his forgiveness and pardon.
Determination: to not go back to doing that sin again in the future.
The repentance should not occur before the time when its acceptance is terminated, either by death or by the sun rising from the west. Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) says (in a Hadith Qudsi), "Repentance is of no effect for those who commit sins constantly until when death faces one of them, he says: Verily I repent now." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever repents before the sun rises from its west, Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) will accept his repentance." [Reported by Muslim]
O Allah, grant us the sincere repentance and accept it from us, verily You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
“Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, [saying], ‘Believe in your Lord,’ and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgives us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die with the righteous.” Surah Ale Imran, verse 193
BELIEVERS REPENT UNLIKE IBLEES
“Every son of Adam is a sinner, the best is those who repent” (Authentic Hadeeth in Ibn Majah) So every one of sins but the true believers are those who repent. Iblees on the other hand, did not confess his sin; he insisted on it, protested and argued with Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) trying to justify his sinful act.
This is the crux of the matter that when one transgresses a limit set by Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala), he should admit it to be a sin and wrongdoing on his part, and not try to justify his fault like for example those who deal in Riba. They use arguments like the world has changed, everybody deals with interest nowadays or fixed interest is a universal scheme these days and as such there is nothing wrong in dealing with Riba.
We say to them, “Do not be arrogant and try to justify your wrongdoing. Do not say Riba is not Haraam (forbidden), but humble yourself to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) and seek forgiveness for your sin and confess your weakness and negligence in complying with His Commands -
For, this will keep you within the boundaries of Iman but if you reject the Command of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) and argue that Riba is not a crime…you may exit the pale of Islam and commit Kufr (disbelief). We seek Allah’s Protection from this.
Du’as from Qur’an & Sunnah for Repentance

Istaghfaar - Taqwa-(fear of Allah, to guard from sins) is increased through Tawba-Repentance and Tawba-Repentance is increased with making the tongue very moist with dhikr of (istaghfaar)-Astaghfiruallah and Istaghfaar reduces sins and increases Rizq and opens the doors for a way out from difficulties, anxieties until only tranqulity and happiness and descends into the heart and soul "
“And whoever fears Allah, for him Allah brings forth a way out, and gives him provision (rizq) from where he does not even imagine…” (65: 2-3) *Rizq is a deep word that means more the provision* Rizq is everything to do with spending on your 2 'aql-(knowledges) brain and heart and 2 nafs-(egos) stomach and private parts, thus all 'ilm-knowledge is Rizq, your spouse (husband or wife) your children and family your job your home or properties is all Rizq the food you eat from home, buy are invited to eat are your Rizq. And finally its what of all that you actually consume-(use) that is (your rizq) not what isn't used (example a home with 8 rooms which only 3 are used but the other 5 are guest rooms so 3 are Your Rizq) so if you don’t consume it with your brain or heart for ilm food or private parts for ego house or objects for your body its not part of your Rizq or Qadr even so its in your obsession.

I strayed yesterday. Meaning I did a bad thing. And I both do and don't feel guilty for it. I hope to do lots of istaghfaar today. I'd read Quran but I got my period. I've been praying better too so I feel bummed. And I have been truly enjoying reading the Quran. Now I can only say the duaa and ones I've got memorized I guess. I hope Allah forgives me for all the bad I'd done. I hope Allah continues to bless me and give hidayat to me and others o care about. Ameen

Pharmacology continues
So I think I'm finally getting the hang of studying, alhamdulillah. Today I finished a whole chapter of antihypertensives, which was pretty lengthy. If I were a med student, I would have been proud of this accomplishment, but I'm not at this point of my steps prep. I should do anti-anginals now. And tomorrow I'll have to do another two chapters inshallah. But I'll still have a chapter remaining. I should try doing half a chapter of another topic as well today inshallah. May Allah help me, ameen.
My husband is so faraway and this should give me a good reason to study intensely. I miss him a lot so it's hard to focus at times, but I think I'm getting better at it inshaAllah. I'm not getting stronger, I do not miss him any less. In fact, it's getting more unbearable day after day. But I have no option here, so I try to force studying on my brain. I try to distract myself through studying. I should also try other means. Ramadan is coming up and maximum ibadah should be a part of my routine inshallah. Lots of Quran recitation, listening to Quranic explanation, attending Taraweeh, making lots of duas, especially at Tahajjud and before iftaar, and after every fardh namaz; and lots of zikr and istaghfaar inshallah.
May Allah make this Ramadan the best so far of our lives, ameen!

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلتَّوَّٲبِينَ وَيُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُتَطَهِّرِينَ
"Verily, Allah loves those who repent and those who purify themselves." [Al-Qur'an 2:222]

Two Questions asked: Which Books to read 1st and if you know the dhikrs to clean and activate the 7 nafs like Nafs Ammara lawamaah and Mutaina etc share with truth seekers. 1st The Writing on the Water: Chronicles of a Seeker on the Islamic Sufi Path. 2nd Irshad - Irshad: Wisdom of a Sufi Master. 3rd Treatise For The Seekers of Guidance by Imam Muhasibi's Risalah al Mustarshidin. 4th Imam Ghazali's Minhaj al-'Abidin Minhaj al-Abidin (The Path of the Worshipful Servants). *note: these books are all available to buy and in English* The 1st is a Novel written for Western Lovers of Sufism, the 2nd book is a simple Book called Irshad by Muzaffer Ozak Halveti-Jerrahi, it has a style and feel as if a Sufi shaykh talks to you in simple english. These are enough to will keep you safe in Sufism, these 1st 4 books are what most other Sufi Books talk about already. If you can understand just the the 1st four Books mentioned at a deep level then you are way on your way. Then move to Al-Ghazali : Alchemy of Happiness 2 Vols these Books will give you an over all knowledge and more scope. These are really enough. Others books; all the books of Imam Haddad in English and the 5 vol Sufficient Provision for Seekers of the Path of Truth of Shaykh Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani which is partis deep. The 2nd Question: You need to understand there is Dhikr and there is Khidma and then there is Muhasabah and then (Reflection Fikr or Tafakkur contemplation of the Soul). The Dhikr 1st is Istaghfaar 1000 to 5,000 a day and then Salawat from 300 to 1000 to 5,000 and this is enough. Khidma to serve Others and includes being humble to others (especially to your women folk). (Muhasabah-Self-Audit) of your thoughts and Sins like Ghiyba-(Backbiting) which wipes your ibadah on a daily basis and Gill-(Holding Grudges) wich stops ALL spiritual Process regardless of the ibadah done and Ghadab-(Anger) Poisons the Nur of your Heart and kills your Heart. Reflection Fikr or Tafakkur contemplation of the Soul. This is linked to Silence and Muhasabah and seeing how you can improve from Mistakes and Slips and think about ones Adaab towards all of mankind. Also with Tafakkur this grows with Dhikr and allows you to Ponder thoughts of ilham starts to happen. Dhikr is Only one Element:
1 - Dhikr 2 - Khidma 3 - Muhasabah 4 - Fikr or Tafakkur contemplation of the Soul). To Focus on Dhikr alone is a waste of time, as Pride still kicks in. As the other Elements are needed to wash the heart and if they are not followed, you will Fall and slip and most don’t listen. Because they see a spark Ghayb in dhikr and suddenly they think they have maqam when all they see is the Veils blow from the unseen which actually is a hal and nothing much else. Points (Muhasabah-Self-Audit), Fikr or Tafakkur contemplation of the Soul) these are mentioned in deatil in the books; Treatise For The Seekers of Guidance by Imam Muhasibi's Risalah al Mustarshidin a book about Muhasabah-Self-Audit. and Imam Ghazali's Minhaj al-'Abidin Minhaj al-Abidin (The Path of the Worshipful Servants). These books are the ones ive mentioned above. Example from the Book - (Minhaj al-'Abidin by Imam al-Ghazali; The best naseeha for all, so pay attention, learn, adopt and live by this and forward to others. It's why so many people have issues with Health and Wealth, it's your tongues; "Abdullah in abbas said;
Do Not talk about things that do not concern you, and leave much of does concern, and do not argue with fools or clement-(lenient/peaceful) people. Only mention your brother in ways that you would love to be mentioned taken from; Imam Muhasibi's Risalah al Mustarshidin. Because of the damaging effects as mentioned in Imam Ghazali's Minhaj al-'Abidin, Third Hurdle Chapter, Subsection-(The Tongue -Lisan) it says;
The Tongue affects all the members of the human body, either helping them or causing them disappointment. Malik ibn Dinar said;
"If you notice a hardness in your heart, a feebleness in your body, and a deprivation in your sustenance, you should that you have spoken about something that does not not concern you." (Minhaj al-'Abidin ila Jannati Rabbi 'l-'Alamin)-The Path of the Worshipful Servants to the Garden of the Lord of All the Worlds By Imam al-Ghazali.

Istaghfar
Taqwa-(fear of Allah, to guard from sins) is increased through Tawba-Repentance and Tawba-Repentance is increased by making the tongue very moist with dhikr of (istaghfaar)- saying "Astaghfiruallah" and Istaghfaar reduces sins and increases Rizq and opens the doors for a way out from difficulties, anxieties until only tranquillity and happiness and descends into the heart and soul.
“And whoever fears Allah, for him Allah brings forth a way out, and gives him provision (rizq) from where he does not even imagine…” (65: 2-3)
Rizq is a deep word that means more the provision
Rizq is everything to do with spending on your 2 'aql-(knowledge) brain and heart and 2 nafs-(egos) stomach and private parts, thus all 'ilm-knowledge is Rizq, your spouse (husband or wife) your children and family your job your home or properties is all Rizq the food you eat from home, buy are invited to eat are your Rizq.
And finally its what of all that you actually consume-(use) that is (your rizq) not what isn't used (example a home with 8 rooms which only 3 are used but the other 5 are guest rooms, so 3 are your Rizq) so if you don't consume it with your brain or heart for 'ilm food or private parts for ego house or objects for your body its not part of your Rizq or Qadr even so its in your obsession.
The best of you are repents even if your break your promise 1000 times always turn back to Allah.
A lady who had to provide for her children and asked the shaykh "Ya shaykh i'm so poor i cannot feed my children properly, what should i do?"
The shaykh responded by saying - Do istighfar, in all of your affairs, all the time, working or resting, sitting or standing. So the lady did istighfar (saying Astaghfirullah, or Astaghfirullah wa atubu ilaih) to the extent it reached 1000s of times a day... the lady comes back literally some time after and told the shaykh she took his advice, and Allah blessed her with wealth from a place she never imagined.
A story about Istighfar
This story about “Istighfar” is from the life of Imam Ahmed Bin Hanbal, who is considered as a renowned scholar of Islam and a famous theologian. During his old age, while Imam Ahmed was travelling he stopped by a town. After the prayers, he wanted to stay for the night in the masjid yard because he didn’t know anyone in the town.
Owing to his humility, he hadn’t introduced himself to anyone thinking that if he did, he would be welcomed by many people.
Failing to recognize Ahmed bin Hanbal, the caretaker of the mosque refused to let him stay in the mosque. As Imam Ahmed was quite old, the caretaker had to drag him out of the mosque.
On seeing this, a baker from a nearby place felt pity for this man (Imam Ahmed) and offered to be the host to him for the night. During his stay with the baker,
Imam Ahmed observed that the baker would constantly recite Istighfar (seeking forgiveness from Allah). Imam Ahmed asked the baker if the constant practice of saying Istighfar had any effect on him.
The baker responded by telling Imam Ahmed that Allah had accepted all of his duas (supplications), except one. When he asked him what dua was it that hadn’t been accepted, the baker replied that he had been asking Allah to provide him the privilege to meet the famous scholar Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal.
On this, Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal said that Allah had not only listened to his dua but had dragged him onto his (the baker’s) doorsteps.

*note: these books are all available to buy and in English*
The 1st is a Novel written for Western Lovers of Sufism, the 2nd book is a simple Book called Irshad by Muzaffer Ozak Halveti-Jerrahi, it has a style and feel as if a Sufi shaykh talks to you in simple english.
(Muhasabah-Self-Audit) of your thoughts and Sins like Ghiyba-(Backbiting) which wipes your ibadah on a daily basis and Gill-(Holding Grudes) wich stops ALL spiritual Process regardless of the ibadah done and Ghadab-(Anger) Posions the Nur of your Heart and kills your Heart.
Dhikr is Only one Element: 1 - Dhikr 2 - Khidma 3 - Muhasabah 4 - Fikr or Tafakkur contemplation of the Soul).
To Focus on Dhikr alone is a waste of time, as Pride still kicks in. As the other Elements are needed to wash the heart and if they are not followed, you will Fall and slip and most dont listen. Because they see a spark Ghayb in dhikr and suddenly they think they have maqam when all they see is the Veils blow from the unseen which actually is a hal and nothing much else.
Points (Muhasabah-Self-Audit), Fikr or Tafakkur contemplation of the Soul) these are mentaioned in deatil in the books; Treatise For The Seekers of Guidance by Imam Muhasibi's Risalah al Mustarshidin a book about Muhasabah-Self-Audit. and Imam Ghazali's Minhaj al-'Abidin Minhaj al-Abidin (The Path of the Worshipful Servants). These books are the ones ive mentioned above.
Example from the Book - (Minhaj al-'Abidin by Imam al-Ghazali;
The best naseeha for all, so pay attention, learn, adopt and live by this and forward to others. It's why so many people have issues with Health and Wealth, it's your tongues;
"Abdullah in abbas said; Do Not talk about things that do not concern you, and leave much of does concern, and do not argue with fools or clement-(lenient/peaceful) people. Only mention your brother in ways that you would love to be mentioned taken from; Imam Muhasibi's Risalah al Mustarshidin.
Because of the damaging effects as mentioned in Imam Ghazali's Minhaj al-'Abidin, Third Hurdle Chapter, Subsection-(The Tongue -Lisan) it says; The Tongue affects all the members of the human body, either helping them or causing them disappointment.
Malik ibn Dinar said; "If you notice a hardness in your heart, a feebleness in your body, and a deprivation in your sustenance, you should that you have spoken about something that does not not concern you."
