Sophie de Choiseul-Gouffier in her memoirs is pretty much fangirling over Tsar Alexander and what a cutie-patootie he is, but I just got to a part where they’re discussing Napoleon, and Alexander is complaining about his character or something, to which she says “Well not every sovereign can be as perfect as Your Majesty”, and this 36 year old man apparently “blushed hiding his face in his hands and said with the most cordial smile: Please, no more compliments”
