The fact that some people actually blame tumblr shipping culture for the reason men can’t show intimacy to each other without being perceived as gay is fucking mind boggling to me

I’m aware of the blog with which I’m posting this on #and the website it’s hosted on #stones in glass houses and all that #but the idea that shaming men for being intimate and vulnerable with each other #began in 2007 with the birth of tumblr #is INSANE #like it’s been around for hundreds if not thousands of years in at least some context #if men are getting shamed for their platonic gestures being read as gay #is that not perceived as a bad thing bc BEING GAY HAS HISTORICALLY BEEN STIGMATIZED #bc I look at that and go ‘huh. that totally sucks that straight men have weaker support networks #bc they don’t feel comfortable being vulnerable with their male friends.#it’s almost like homophobia negatively impacts everyone 🤔’#not ‘wow I’m lacking intimacy in my life bc I can’t be vulnerable with my friends. how can I blame women for this?’#like do I think that internet shipping culture is overall a good thing? no #i think it’s negatively impacted how people think about narratives themes and characters #but real life people feeling ashamed and potentially even facing violence for being vulnerable with peers of the same gender #is NOT being caused by shippers #if YOU think it’s bad to be PERCIEVED as gay then you have to recognize #how being visibly queer is still a dangerous thing to be #like yeah ppl misinterpreting your identity isn’t a pleasant feeling #but the percieved threat of misinterpretation #is not equating to the problem that it’s causing (lack of male intimacy)#it’s fucking annoying when men get mad at a problem THEY caused and then blame women and queer ppl for it #and yes of course women and queer ppl can perpetuate these stereotypes too #but once again I feel like that is ignoring the root cause of the issue #anyway if you made it this far into this tag vent congrats 🎊#i saw a tiktok and it reminded me of this argument I had with an ex #over samwise and Frodo being in love no less

‘Dungeon Meshi isn’t focused on romance and you may be missing what it’s trying to say if you only focus on that aspect’ and ‘trying to shut down conversations about farcille completely is kinda lesbophonic when that energy isn’t directed towards any f/m or m/m ships’ are both true statements btw.

If you find yourself annoyed that shippers are focusing on farcille but don’t care about other shippers then maybe keep that to yourself. There is a conversion to be had about how fandoms hyper focus on ships but trying to say any f/f ship is responsible for that is kinda insane to me.

The assault at Sangravah happened in early ACOMAF (before Elain's existence even came into picture for Azriel - 3 days before he even got to meet Feyre)... So I don't get how G and Az are supposed to be mates when he's had all that time to feel something?

There's the parallel of Rhys' father feeling his mating bond snap into place the moment he met his mother being assaulted.

"One look at her, and he knew what she was..." (ACOMAF, ch. 16)

Or Rhys himself feeling the bond when Feyre was being tortured by Amarantha...

"And I knew as I picked up that knife to kill her... I knew right then what you were. I knew right then that you were my mate." (ACOMAF, ch. 54)

Or Cassian simply meeting Nesta. "Say what I've guessed from the moment we met" he breathed. What I knew from the first time I kissed you. What became unbreakable between us on Solstice night." (ACOSF, ch. 62)

Bonus from Nesta: “‘From the moment I met you, I wanted you more than reason. From the moment I saw you in my house, you were all I could think about. And it terrified me. No one had ever held such power over me."

Or even Lucien after Elain was Made and maybe even while being thrown into the Cauldron... I don't even need a quote for them, but even Lucien knew and has tried seeking Elain out after the incident.

It's stated in the books and shown again and again that it's the males who are deeply affected by the mating bond. That they can know from the moment they meet. They all in one way or another sought after the females. Even Nesta and Feyre felt something before they knew or opened themselves up to it. And since they all met - They. Couldn't. Stay. Away.

But there's like... no hint of it from Az after stumbling upon G? Like he just literally stumbles upon her - never actually even actively seeking her out through all those years? He hasn't even actively tried to stay away? He's just... *crickets*

It's been Gwyn making noises and attracting his attention through all their scenes together. It was Gwyn asking for dagger lessons. It was 'Gwyn' making Az the new ribbon (whatever that means). And it's Az's shadows reacting to Gwyn, not Az himself. But there's no real hint that Gwyn feels anything romantic for him. There's barely any interactions between them without linking it to her assault in Sangravah and her growth from it.

Besides Az's shadows reacting to G, and that ribbon moment that everyone deems so pivotal when Az realises what it means for the Valkyries (that he's had a hand in training) and maybe even reflects upon Gwyn's character development and therefore what the ribbon means for Gwyn - which made me feel proud too, and that's how I interpreted it - but I can't see an undeniable sign of it being a mating bond anywhere.

I thought at first that mayhaps he was giving her space because of the assault, but then the BC came and he went "It was too late to bank without appearing like he was running," and then "He wouldn't go so far as to call Gwyn a friend,". (ACOSF, Azriel's Bonus Chapter)

Let's not even mention the part where Gwyn was actually in danger (no matter how capable she was at that point), while Cassian was going ballistic at Nesta being in danger, but Az is all like "Let's go save Eris". Eris who both he and Cassian hates. Eris who Az himself nearly killed during the HLs' pre-war meeting (before he exhibited actual mate behaviour and sought and risked his life to save Elain who's not even his mate). But no, he gave just as much or even less action and reaction about Gwyn as Tamlin gave when Feyre was UTM.

And I was like...

How are they mates? Where's the mate behaviour every male - mated or not - in Prythian has exhibited throughout the books? Why did I keep seeing things about them being mates and endgame?

The only hint between them that I could even begin to consider it from is the second to last sentence in Az's BC.

"But Azriel tucked away the thought, consciously erasing the slight smile it brought to his face. Buried the image down deep, where it glowed quietly."

But I basically have the same interpretation about that as this post from @merymoonbeam. (Although I'm still neutral about the lightsinger theory, it's the most interesting take.)

Because again.

Why hasn't Azriel felt/shown anything or actively sought her out or even actively stayed away if he's known Gwyn since Sangravah?

If they're mates, shouldn't he have felt and shown something - like that glow - and Gwyn be the one to snap him out of his 'love' for Mor before he even had the chance to meet Elain? If he's just lonely and jealous of his brothers having mates then... Why has he barely noticed or sought out Gwyn who's supposed to be his mate?

What, he had to wait until his shadows reacted to her to even think about her?

I'm not an expert at analysing things - I wouldn't even say I'm good at interpreting things especially when I've got my rose-tinted glasses on, so/but I'm always open to being wrong and changing my mind accordingly.

But/so convince me with actual canon and not just your biased opinions, delusions, self-insertions, or ships.

All I'm saying is Chuuya was affected by Dazai leaving the Port Mafia. How he was affected is what we don't know yet. I'm all for calling out over the top exaggerated characterisation being pushed as canon but at this point I am convinced some of you are just being assholes. Half the anime characterisation for Chuuya came from 2 short scenes in the show that made Dazai come across as aloof and detached. Nobody knew Chuuya's backstory before stormbringer, not everyone has access to the light novels and we still do not know how Dazai's departure affected him outside of a) getting completely drunk off an expensive wine and b) him drunk dialing Dazai post defection. Even claiming Chuuya celebrated Dazai leaving is just a headcanon. I dont particularly enjoy the whole Chuuya was super depressed and betrayed hc either but there is a line between not conforming to the popular hc and being a turd to fans.

Chuuya's canonical expression while talking about Dazai's defection is pensive, not particularly thrilled or gloating. It tells you nothing about his feelings but it also does not come across as being giddy about the defection. Especially when Chuuya has lost many friends and has been betrayed often. (Also he doesnt call Dazai a traitor either).

Asagiri would not bring up wanting to cover Chuuya's reaction to Dazai's defection TWICE if Chuuya was not affected by it.

Have fun with your hc's all you want but you aren't special or better than others for having a different opinion. Your opinion isnt canon aligned when you dont even know what the fuck happened in canon yet.

Also, it might just be a me thing, but being a tomtord shipper in the current fandom sometimes feels like I’m standing in a mine field.

I've never liked when people complain about 'new fans' in Fandoms and how they're 'ruining the fandom' or whatever, but I will say the weirdest thing to come out the 2023 South Park fandom is treating kyman shippers like they're delusional and disgusting. Sure there's been controversy with the ship (obviously), but it's not even a pro-ship and it's been around for years???

Kyman has always been one of my most hated ships but I've never bothered the shippers because there's nothing actually wrong with them shipping it. They're not related, there's not a pedophilic age gap, and believe it or not there actually isn't an unbalanced power dynamic. Sure its not exactly wholesome and I can get why people think it doesn't make sense, but for crying out loud it's shipping it doesn't have to! And if Kyman shippers are saying they see stuff in canon then maybe TO THEM there is, and if there isn't anything in canon that you see then that's fine but that doesn't mean they can't enjoy the show and characters how they want.

I don't know if this makes a lot of sense, I'm not good at writing paragraphs but I just needed to say this cause I've been in this fandom for a few years now and I'm ngl it seems like purity culture is getting worse. Like, you're in the South Park fandom, you of all people do not get to preach about someone else being weird or cringe for shipping. You're in the weird and cringe shipping fandom.

Lord help me it's 2023 and I'm actually fighting kyman vs sp fandom on the side of kyman 😭

Sometimes I wish that I did ship Hankcon, cause honestly I don't have anything against it as a ship and I'd get like double the content. Idk why I don't, I can separate ships vs platonic relationships in my head and enjoy both without issue in most cases (I do with rk1700 vs them as brothers for example, I can enjoy both separately). Sometimes a ship just doesn't vibe with me for some reason. I was also one of the 0.0001% of the Merlin fandom who didn't ship Merlin and Arthur, a rare breed I know lol. It's not that I don't see it! It's not that I don't see why it's shippable, it just doesn't click in my brain. It's the platonic shit that gives my brain the happy chemicals for whatever reason and only that 🤷
