Got a cute jacket for cheap due to the giant holes on the inside armpits

The fix might not be the most beautiful, but it's hidden and it works!

Well, both sides look identical. This is *technically* a tablecloth. In *actuality* it's a blanket. I try to repair everything with this weave style by weaving in new thread to shore it up.

I've had people express that it's hard to see the repairs sometimes. So I held it up to the light.

I have no idea if this is helpful, but I mean well.

Mending Tutorial:

Looking through my wardrobe I noticed a theme among my favorite pants. And so I decided to make a short tutorial on how to mend torn belt loops.

At first this isn't a noticeable tear. But, with time a small hole will just grow & grow. Best to fix a little problem before it becomes even bigger. This mend took about 5 minutes in total and all I used was a patch of a similar weight to the garment (in this case jean), scissors, needle, and thread.

As you can see in one of the photos my mending kit came in handy for this project as I wasn't at home when I made this tutorial. Most experience menders already have the tools they need to do such DIY projects. But, for those starting out a mending kit is super helpful. You can find one via my Etsy page.

I am sick so I decided to mend this blanket. There were two holes, oddly the same size, which my mom says have been there since forever. I could have done a better job, but at least they’re not visible 😁

Mostly-invisible mending for a superwash merino wool vest for my partner.  He wanted the repairs to not be very noticeable.  

Holes that were visible from the exterior got patched by needle-felting black wool into the holes.  A hole on the inside collar got patched with a grey heart (because I am really tickled by my partner wearing secret cute hearts on his clothing).  

For the pockets, I chose to darn those holes with wool-nylon thread; but if I had the skills and tools for sewing, I think patching would have been a better solution (more durable and functional).    

Techniques I learned/used on this project: 

Needle-felting directly on fabric

Needle-felting patches to sew onto fabric 

Needle-felting patches of odd shapes (heart)

Darning 

Reinforce piping with whipstitch 

Cutting a cardboard insert to separate pocket layers while working

Future repairs: 

When I’m more confident at cutting fabric and sewing, I may replace those pockets; or at least, line them with woven cloth.  All three pockets have holes, and in very similar places!  

Or if they break between now and then, I would patch them with woven or knit fabric.

As if she didn't fight Endos before- she knew she was going to get her ass handed to her despite her confidence. Roxy was lucky Pacman was there for her last time! But this time there was no luck. Her joints creaked and moved as she laid on the ground- pain filling every servo and circuit as her fan let out a horrid sound while spinning. Her ears perked up to the voice, head swiveling to the human.

"John man- that you?" By gods her voice was a bit glitchy. Seemed like it messed with her voice box as well. And she was missing her eyes- seems like they got knocked out good...they were nowhere to be seen.

"It's nothing- it's just a scratch. Damn pieces of scrap got me is all.. a kid wandered down here and- well you know how the Endos have been acting up recently." The wolf tried her best to stand only to fall back down, letting out a whine of pain. Her joints creak again with a horrible tone. She was less than fine- but it was clear the animatronic was trying to play it off. Including her pain.

"Uh- also a good question. Where are you...?"

I am truly sorry that I wasn't good enough for you, my love!

Had to make a quick repair on these jeans before seeing family

A kid's horse aptly named, "Horse" needed a repair. Thankfully I have a set of curved needles so this was about ten minutes from start to finish.

Stuffing isn't discolored. That saves a deep cleaning later.

This is a FAO plush. I find these take repairs very well. I wasn't happy with the original seam peeking through here.

Another set of stitches and I was happy with the results.

Today's mend is a horse's rear end. (Haha)

I fluffed the seam a bit to make it match the other side. Horse is all set to go back where they belong.
