A touch of progress.
Tumblr media
I've had a strange time and work was a bit weird.
I put on more of The Mentalist and got back to work. Though I do not think I'm the target audience for that show. I'll finish it, but I don't think I'll ever rewatch it.
Tumblr media
Darning a torn towel is a lengthy endeavor. The weave is odd and the dangly bits of terry cloth get caught in the needle.
If anyone wants a quicker fix, then buy a towel or washcloth from a thrift shop and use it to donate material. You can repair a lot of towels with patches from a single towel. Remember to vacuum out your sewing machine afterwards. The fluff this stuff gives off can be ridiculous.

For context:
Tumblr media
This is a towel I fixed some time last year(2023). It's held up wonderfully. There is some puckering but honestly, it's a towel.
The library table really helps show the shade of brown the threads are.

And now,
Tumblr media
Another towel!
I love the colors of these ones, but goodness they simply don't last as long as older towels do. This one is about 4-5 years old. They get one little tear and get exploded like this.
Tumblr media
I have no idea why the color in this picture is more dried out than a tomato eaten by Bunnicula, but I've trimmed off all the bleh bits of threads. Scraggly bits.
Tumblr media
Again, no idea what's going on with the color.* I'm not going to spend all evening on it though because supper still needs doing. The repair thread's color is DMC 223, or as I call it, Worm Pink.
*The color problems are because I didn't turn on the light while the sun was going down. Whoops.
Tumblr media
This is going to take a hot minute...
I'm watching The Mentalist because something like a decade ago a friend told me I *had* to watch it. It's on in the background and I look up for the important bits. It's definitely a show. I'm not sure if I like it or not.

My fall jacket needs two fixes before it's put up until autumn again.
Tumblr media
Here's the first tear
Tumblr media
And it's fixed.
I'll try to finish the other tear in-between planting in the afternoon.

I have to redo all of it.
I'm very unhappy, not going to lie I went ahead and cried a bit. Hours of work down the drain.
Tumblr media
Someone, a child, decided to pull a prank. This is the second pointlessly cruel prank from this person in the past two months. As a result, I will be doing nothing for them.
I've told the kid's dad that it isn't going to be done anytime soon and the only way I can do it is by cutting it apart. He bought a replacement backpack and told me not to worry about it. I will still fix this, but I'm glad the kid has a back up in the meanwhile.
Tumblr media
The prankster is another one of his kids and he's very upset and sorry about it. I've told him quite plainly that the prankster will get no repairs of any kind from me. For some reason he's surprised I'll still fix the other kids' stuff. They didn't do anything.
I will fix this to the best of my ability, but later. I was already frustrated with it before everything went to heck. Tomorrow I'll start fixing my fall jacket before it gets put away.
Ah well, I've had quite a week. Which means it's only up from here friends.
At least it's plant sale season.

I'll be back to stitching within the week
Until then,
I made a ridiculous purchase and I cannot wait to use it.
Tumblr media
Part of one of my current conditions is,
I need to drink
A lot
And anything that helps me drink water is good.
There are times I can't get up due to pain/etc. So I'll load up multiple drinks while I can get up.
Tumblr media
I've used it now. 5/5 it holds water while looking cute.
If the top ever breaks, then I'll use it to hold propagated plants. If the bottom breaks, then I'll use it to hold brushes. I have metal straws already if the straw breaks. I'm all prepped.
Normally I have a tumbler of tea as well, but I'm banned from herbal teas at the moment. But the strawberry is a boost I need. 🍓

I'm putting the backpack down for a day. It's officially in time out.
Instead I worked on my growing mend pile.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think someone tried to dye this with permanent markers? I'm not entirely sure.
It's a fitted sheet so it's a good practice piece. If it turns out well or terrible, eh. You still have a usable blanket.
Tumblr media
The patch really pops and I just love it. I matched the colors of the patch to the dye work and the thread was from my spare threads card.
It was very, very satisfying to finish something.

I uh, forgot today was the eclipse until this morning so, I didn't get much done. I went and looked at the sun (safely) and shared my glasses around with people.
It was great. Very wholesome and a great memory.
Um, here's a picture of my spare threads card. It's about 1/3 as much as it was before.
Tumblr media
Tomorrow I'll be working on the backpack more and making various calls.

I could not finish so I loaned one of my backpacks. It fits the kid kinda... Okay, not at all, but it's temporary and better than no backpack. I'll make sure to check it for rocks once I do the switch off.
Tumblr media
I found some highly invasive plants in my garden and had to pivot my focus for a day. I caught it in the flowering stage and I think I tore it out before it went to seed.
I have one side of whip stitch done and one row of the prick stitch done.

I took a picture of both sides, but when you follow the weave,
Tumblr media
Well, both sides look identical. This is *technically* a tablecloth. In *actuality* it's a blanket. I try to repair everything with this weave style by weaving in new thread to shore it up.
Tumblr media
I've had people express that it's hard to see the repairs sometimes. So I held it up to the light.
I have no idea if this is helpful, but I mean well.

🎶Guess what I found? 🎶
Tumblr media
The floral fabric I dyed hot pink forever ago. I believe Tulip Hot Pink dye. I usually use dharma dyes or tulip dyes.
Tumblr media
Martha Stewart apparently. I bought it for 0.25$ from a garage sale and I never checked. Also it's palm trees, not technically floral. Forgive me if I keep calling it floral because I definitely will forget.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I cannot stress enough how much I'd rather rip every seam, remove the damaged fabric, replace with entirely new fabric where it's damaged, and then sew it all back up on a machine.
Tumblr media
Instead my machine is still missing and I cannot cut the backpack.
Tumblr media
Wish me the greatest of luck. I dislike fixing backpacks as is because it strains my hands. And yet, this is the third backpack I'll be repairing in as many months.
Bbl, gotta go whip stitch the cloth on and then prick stitch the entirety of a backpack bottom, and then have to cover the long inside stitches with a liner so notebooks don't tear it up.
Normally I'd give a week on and off specifically for that kinda task. Time to speed run 100% items this

A mouse chewed this quilt(not me, I'm innocent) on the edge.
Tumblr media
I poked through my batiks and this one looked absolutely gorgeous on the navy. I had some dark teal thread on my spare threads card and gosh. I'm a sucker for this I swear.
I get to keep this one! It's small but I love quilts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
None of the quilts I own are ones I made. All 7(?) of them are by different people and all were thrifted.
I'm sure you're seeing a theme where I'll get everything I can secondhand. This is for two reasons:
One, environmentally friendly.
Two, stuff is $$$.
My first set of batiks were secondhand but I did have to buy new for the second batch. My next set will hopefully be dyed by myself. I only dyed one set of things in 2023. Rookie numbers

It's a bit hard to see, but there's a break in the stitches here.
Tumblr media
I used the holes already there and put in the same pink thread I used from the back pack. I had some leftover.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall it was a very quick repair. Split back stitch has both sides looking wonderful. The pink goes well. It's a 5/5 repair. Easy and effective.
The quilt has these little bees all over!

Trying to get this repaired before spring break for kids is over. I'm not entirely sure when that is, but I promised a very sad kindergartner.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can imagine why I feel a touch rushed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The bottom has a few holes that, if I'm honest, I'd rather cut out and replace the fabric. However the parent let me know he didn't get past the word, "cut" before the kid cried. So I'll be putting a large patch of some kind. I'll see if I have anything that matches.
I think I dyed some floral upholstery fabric hot pink a couple years ago. I wonder if I can find it.
