1899 Episode 8
Oh. My. God!!! What a ride! There’s a lot to unpack here so I’ve just included the natural progression of my thoughts as I was watching the episode:
1. I was right about the passageway and ship representing the neural pathways and the brain, respectively! Love the symbology.
2. Who do we trust when we don’t know what’s real or not? It would be more of a twist if Maura is the Creator and it would explain Daniel’s behaviour as well as Henry’s. Like, if this was Henry’s experiment, he wouldn’t have allowed Daniel and Elliot to interfere so much. So perhaps he doesn’t have as much control as we think. Also, the “wake up” is in her voice...
3. The speech about seekers vs. avoiders... *chef’s kiss*. I can always trust the creators of this show with their epic monologues. And again, a really strong parallel to The Matrix.
4. So the white injection makes you remember, and black makes you forget.
5. Omg her and her brother being the villains and not the father is a plot twist! And I guess the father is right, Daniel does value Maura more than Elliot. Explains why his memory just includes the two of them, while her memory is basically a reflection of her guilt over what she did to Elliot. And the grave is there to signify he’s actually dead (I think? From my understanding, he’s only being kept alive through the simulation but he’d be brain dead in reality).
6. Loved the space twist! The dichotomy between the ocean and space is an interesting one so I like seeing it explored in this way. Although I wonder, is this reality? How do we know? 👀
Assuming it is real, I guess I have my answer now. This is a futuristic world that is not actually set in 1899. I initially didn’t expect the show to go in this direction (I thought it would actually be set in the 1800s based on the summary), but I did anticipate a modern twist when I saw the more recent trailer and the opening. And I love sci-fi so this is great!
7. I screamed when I saw Krester. So glad he’s real! I guess the real characters are the ones who made it onto the promo posters, which makes sense haha.
Henry, Daniel, and Elliot weren’t in the room though, so are they still stuck in the simulation (and they’re in a different room, which I guess could be the case for the rest of the passengers) or were they never even there...?
Also, going back to Henry mentioning muscle memory, I wonder if the interactions we saw between the characters are based off their dynamics in reality. Like, the characters that ended up gravitating towards one another actually shared that connection in real life, and it’s these triggers that continue to drive them together no matter how many times their memories are erased.
In any case, I wanna know how much of their backstories are true. I guess the root of their traumas could be real while the details are fictional, which was the case for Maura.
8. It appears the only way to leave the simulation is to be the one to turn the key, so does that mean only one person can leave at a time?
Moreover, it looked like Daniel deleted the simulation this time instead of just shutting it down, so did that affect the characters that were still aboard the ship? Or is it just that the Kerberos will not be sitting around in the ship graveyard like all the other simulations?
9. Daniel made it sound like Ciaran is evil, but he sounded welcoming in his message (plus Henry described him as an avoider, not a seeker), so I’m really interested in finding out what their relationship is really like.
I also really wanna know how Maura feels about Eyk. I don’t know if I misread the romantic vibes between them, but she always reacted more intensely when it came to him. So maybe Daniel is hiding the truth about some aspects of their relationship after all.
10. All in all, I’m excited to see where the show will go and to learn more about this universe. Will there be a next simulation and if so, will we get to see the characters in a different time period? Or will they all be woken up and the rest of the story will take place in 2099?
11. The main philosophical question of this series appears to be “what is reality?” in contrast to Dark’s “do we have free will?”.
12. Lastly, I just wanted to point out that I really appreciated the makeup and styling in this show. The third class characters actually looked dirty given their lack of access to regular baths, and once shit went down, the richer characters also looked like a mess. I hate when characters look perfect when they’re supposed to be in a survival situation lol.

I’ve seen some talk about how there are a lot of similarities and parallels between the Eyk/Maura/Daniel love triangle and the Jérôme/Clémence/Julien love triangle and I can’t get it out of my head because it is both so true and also not. And it’s all because of how I try to break the triangles down.
The obvious route is to go for the ‘centre’ of the triangle and take it from there. Maura and Clémence are both women who potentially find themselves torn between two separate men. They are both in different kinds of dead marriages (Maura has forgotten her life outside of the simulation, Clémence is in an unfullfilling simulation-marriage), and feel some draw to another man. But then things get blurry. Because yes, Daniel and Lucien are both the spouses in their respective love triangles, but they approach their wives completely differently. Lucien is pushing Clémence away because of his impending death and guilt over living a stolen life, while Daniel is actively reaching out to Maura to help her remember and set her free from the simulation. In that sense, he seems to parallel Jérôme more than Lucien, as Jérôme is the one sitting on a truth that could change everything.
But then again, Jérôme is not on the Kerberos for Clémence, he is there to confront Lucien. He had no intention of interacting with Clémence and rather seems to act against his own interest by continuing to interact with her. That may give him a parallel to Eyk, who is also initially here to get the ship from point A to B but is then sucked in to the Prometheus mystery and becomes part of exploring the edges of the simulation with Maura.
But to claim that Maura and Clémence are in the same position isn’t entirely right either. In some ways Maura actually resembles Lucien more than Clémence. Clémence, while clearly disillusioned with her marriage, still continuously reaches out to Lucien and shows affection to him. She wants their relationship to function in some way it appears. Meanwhile Maura cannot let herself remember Daniel because that would make her remember Elliot and then his death and that’s the whole reason she seemingly made the simulation. Maura shuts down, differently but still sort of in parallel to Lucien. They would both rather be alone in the torture simulation than risk a greater pain. To Maura that pain is the knowledge of her son’s death, and to Lucien it’s putting his heart on the line for a woman who may not love the man he truly is back.
But if we go by the logic that Maura = Lucien, Daniel = Clèmence and Eyk =Jérôme than the similarities between the triangles still don’t make complete sense. Because Daniel and Eyk are not drawn to each other in the way Clémence and Jérôme are. This could be because Daniel has the ultimate outsider-factor that comes from knowing he’s in a simulation while absolutely nobody else does, but how does that help anything unless Clémence secretly knows something about the simulation too?
But then again, everything we learn has to be taken with a grain of salt because season 1 is one big box full of questions that are supposed to be answered further down the line. For all we know the french trio have no connection to each other in real life. Eyk could be a sleeper agent for Ciaran. Daniel could be dead. Maura could’ve imagined every single person on the Kerberos including the other five. I feel like I’ve been given countless photos that I’m supposed to tie together on a conspiracy board and I have no string yet.

Not every litg character is bisexual or non binary.
who said they were?
and are you referencing the ask about bobby being enby? because if you are, that's why we said HEADCANON, anon. you can vibe with it or not, your choice, but canon is just as written as headcanon. don't forget it's all made up.
and we were speaking from experience. non binary is something that some people might take a while to realize, if they are indeed non binary. or genderfluid. and because of our own gender identity, anon and i were speculating, i don't think there's anything wrong with that.
plus, we only said henrik and bobby... i don't know where you got eVeRy cHaRaCtEr from what we talked about.
also also, talking about bisexuality, LOTS of characters are confirmed bisexuals, pan, fluid, gay at some point. season 2 alone has its majority canonically bi.
canon, "under the bisexual umbrella":
arjun - bi, either mc or elijah;
elijah - bi, either mc or arjun;
elisa - bi
hannah - bi, towards the end of the season, and you can run from the wedding with her. she can also be an li during cmm;
henrik. he confirms he's looking for connections and not girls specifically. that can be a bunch of things, including pan or demi. either way, under the bisexual umbrella;
lottie - bi, just like hannah;
marisol - bi or pan, depending on what mc says she likes, whether 'girls' or 'connections';
priya - bi, she comes out during cmm;
rocco, he says he would try with guys, on the first challenge, as he winks at them, so... fluid;
bisexual tendencies
some people just love ignoring open flirting between boys and call it "friendship" or "jokes". when i look at two dudes openly flirting and exchanging a kiss, i'm not laughing, i'm happy for the representation. y'all are historians!
bobby - melts every time he hears noah's voice and gets all jumpy and nervous, besides complimenting it openly. exchanges a kiss on the lips with noah during the season. openly flirts with noah during cmm;
gary - he can also exchange a kiss on the lips with noah and compliments it, feeling flushed right after. he shouldn't be off the list. granted there's nothing else but i guess you're worried about canon, so i'm giving you canon;
lucas - he gets attached to henrik very early on but no other bombshells behave like that, nor girls or boys. they call each other cute names and can SNIFF THE PILLOW OF THE GUY THAT LEAVES (that goes for both);
noah - he can kiss gary or bobby during the season, compliments the kiss, and flirts with bobby during cmm;
straight, no same-sex romantic, flirty or sexual interaction whatsoever, or are canonically straight:
carl
chelsea, confirms during cmm that she's heterossexual;
felix
hope
ibrahim
jakub
kassam
shannon
as you can see, even if you don't count bi tendencies, we still have loads of bi's in the season, more LGBTQ+ than straight people, and that's just on season 2.
9 LGBTQ+ are li's at some point, whether during the season, confirmed during wedding or cmm. we only have 5 straight li's.
onto the other seasons...
season 1: bisexual, canonically or tendencies:
talia - bi, main female li;
jake - bi, confirmed he had sex with a guy in the past and says "no other boys? ah well, maybe later in the summer";
allegra - bi - becomes an li during the reunion;
lucy - bi, she's talia's ex on her route;
rohan - bi tendency. PLEASE, he kisses jake during the game and acts HELLA horny about him, besides saying he would pick jake if he could;
cherry - bi, confirmed on matchmaker, and she's the same person from s1 because cherrygate happens as well as her entire arc and characterization;
straight:
jen
tim
erikah
reese
miles
levi
mason
sammi (?)
jasper
out of 15 islanders, 6 are confirmed LGBTQ+, 5 of them being li's.
season 3, bisexual or gay:
tai - bi, confirmed during the first date;
ciaran - bi, he couples up with tai;
yasmin - bi;
lily - bi;
aj - gay, has come out as a lesbian on 'boat party';
straight:
nicky
seb
camilo
bill
harry
elladine
genevieve
rafi (?)
iona
miki
out of 15 people in the season, 9 are li's, and 4 are bi and 1 is gay.
as for season 4, i didn't play it but i know will, najuma and angie are confirmed LGBTQ+: najuma being bi, angie being gay and will being... bi? i'm not sure, haven't seen the confirmation but i know he's not straight. and will is non binary (goes by he/they). tiffany also goes by other pronouns... she/he/they.
majority of li's, in all seasons, are bi or gay. and we have people who are non binary or genderfluid that we didn't even count in that ask...
so... sorry to break it to you (no i'm not), but your math is not mathing.
just a quick little thing... if hearing someone saying a character is possibly bi, non binary, or whatever it is that isn't cis or straight, makes you come into my inbox and write that? i feel like you have some stuff to figure out. possibly to understand, and maybe... i don't know, work on ?? it comes across as bi phobic and those types that don't respect pronouns... that's not cute.
besides, i don't think my blog is the right place for you, i really don't. feel free to unfollow and block if you're a follower. we're in the middle of something here and you're disturbing the flow.

Siegmeyer: In quite a pickle! Iconic, fun, tragic. Also joins in your adventures in parallel. Two tragic endings. Great armor set. 10/10.
Lautrec: Didn’t pop off in memes like Solaire or Siegmeyer, but I think easily just as good. 10/10.
Patches: YOU. 10/10.
Quelana of Izalith: Great character, good lore, fierce fashion. Endearing relationship that develops as the game goes on. 9/10.
Priscilla: Mysterious and tragic and also like yeah she’s cute. 9/10.
Alvina: One woulds’st best not think not so unpoorly of this dear cat, no? [Yes][No] Plenty of story, strong presence and personality. Is a cool cat monster. 8/10.
Laurentias of the Great Swamp: Chill dude, good friend, teaches you how pyromancy works. Tragic ending you really feel sad for. 8/10.
Eingyi of the Great Swamp: His devotion is admirable. Sweetest simp. 7/10.
Domnhall of Zena: Aye simwae. Story is pretty sparse but what an impression. 7/10.

Frampt: *clacks teeth together* 7/10.
Gough: Great personality, tragic boy, great shot, 7/10.
Ciaran: Incredible fucking fashion and weapons. Shows up on-screen for 10 seconds. Would be way higher if she was more than an easter egg. 6/10.
Anstacia of Astora: Minor role, huge impact, great outfit. 6/10.
Oswald of Carim: What the fuck this is just like a jumpscare from Five Fuckers at Uncle Festers. 6/10.

Andre of Astora: Sure he’s all right. 6/10.
Darkmoon Knight: Good armor, memorable but doesn’t do much. 6/10.
Petrus of Thoroland: Fuck this guy, weird rapist-vibes asshole. Deeply memorable, very hateable, 6/10.
Giant Blacksmith: Yeah all-right. 6/10.

Ingward: I literally dressed as him for Halloween once. Otherwise not much to say about him. 5/10.
Marvelous Chester: ... okay? 5/10?

Dusk of Oolacile: Memorable, but only because of her circumstances. Kind of a non-character. 4/10.

Elizabeth: That’s a mushroom. 3/10.
Undead Merchant, Female: Eh. 2/10.
Crestfallen Merchant: Who. 2/10.
Dark Souls 2:
THE RAT KING: MY KING. The hottest Dark Souls character. Runs the COOLEST fucking covenant in any Dark Souls. Has an entire character arc where he starts out reluctantly allowing a human’s service to you becoming “one of the good humans” to you changing his mind and letting him dream that someday humans and rats can live and die together in peace and his voice fucking BREAKS several times with emotion as you change his entire life and fill him with pride, you, his dear SERVANT. AAAA. 99999/10.
Sweet Shalquoir: Whimsical sarcastic fae cat jerk holy fucking shit 11/10.
Weaponsmith Ornifex: Skee hee! So now the boss-weapon vendor in this game is not only a hot monster but she’s adorable and friendly and likes to make spooky dolls too? 11/10.
Lucatiel of Mirrah: A character who adventures with you the entire game AND whose storyline is not only about what it means to be cursed with undeath but asks questions of memory and legacy and identity? With a great fashion?? 10/10.
Gavlan: Gavlan Wheel. Gavlan deal. When you with Gavlan? You wheel. You deel. 10/10.
Titchy Gren: I can’t cum unless you tell me how much you like blood, tell me more about blood please ooh hhhhh blooodddddddd 10/10.
Shanalotte: A lot of cut content keeps her story too secret. But it’s fun to have a guide with a mysterious past that’s with you the whole game. Bearer seek seek lest. 9/10.
King Vendrick: OOO dark souls 2 is just a pointless repeat of dark souls 1 fuck you Vendrick shows there’s an entire new paradigm of Kings with Manus-Shard wives and his story is weird and sad and you spend the entire game chasing after him and when you finally reach him you FINALLY discover... there’s nothing left of him. And then you go back in time and talk to him and it’s even sadder. 9/10.
Head of Vengarl: Talk to a decapitated head in the middle of a foggy, haunted wood, about finding peace in life. 9/10.
Straid of Olaphis: Asshole frozen for a thousand years continues to be an asshole to great applause. Ha ha ha ha! 9/10.
Crestfallen Saulden: This time the Crestfallen Warrior gets a happy ending and it’s wonderful. 9/10.
Laddersmith Gilligan: Gives you one of the nicest looking weapons in the game. Gives you one of the funniest looks in the game if you short-change him and he sets up a death-trap while glaring at you for being stingy while you WATCH him do it. Hilarious. 9/10.
Alsanna, the Silent Oracle: Powerful tragic queen defying her nature out of love. 8/10.
Maughlin the Armorer: You watch the undead curse destroy this man’s mind as the game goes on and it’s fucking heartbreaking but at least he’s happy. 8/10.
Three Firekeepers: Insult you the moment they see you. Tell you it’s Dark Souls and you’re going to die. Also respec you and come to respect you just a little bit. 8/10.
Bellkeeper Mannikin: UNDEAD! UNDEAD! What an amazing, insane jackass. What a GREAT covenant. 8/10.
Grave Warden Agdayne: What the fuck is your deal what is going ON in this setting tell me more I want to know more why is your sword SO BIG why are you so HOT. 8/10.
Jester Thomas: You can summon him AND he invades you so I’m counting it. He doesn’t talk but oh my god the personality this one asshole brings to the table. 8/10.
Darkdiver Grandahl: Darkness Grampa, I’m ready for the bonus dungeons. 7/10.
Felkin the Outcast: Gives you lore about the Dark, gives you cool spells, has the hat that everyone wears because it increases your casts. 7/10.
Benhart of Jugo: Your Siegmeyer equivalent. Uses the Moonlight Greatsword but OOPS it’s a counterfeit. Hilarious. 7/10.
Blacksmith Leningrast: Isn’t Andre. Good dad, faintly tragic story, dumbass locked himself out of his own house. 7/10.
Merchant Hag Melentia: Gives you backstory dump, helps Majula feel less empty, AND is creepy and old? 7/10.
Licia of Lindelt: Fucking miracle scam artist hilarious. 7/10.
Camptain Drummond: Appears in one scene really, but gives a good feel of the history of the world and that it isn’t just about your quest to kill bosses or whatever real people have lived and died between the cycles. 7/10.
Manscorpion Tark: Assigned malewife at birth by Seath. 6/10.
Magarold of Lanafir: I want to fuck this twink violently that’s all. 6/10.
Royal Sorceror Navlaan: Oh THIS asshole again. 6/10.
Rosabeth of Melfia: Vomits on screen for way too long and it’s hilarious. Can dress her as you like. Not unmemorable personality. 6/10.
Stone Trader Chloanne: Tragic story, but doesn’t go much of anywhere--but it’s DS2, part of the point is it doesn’t have a tragic ending. 6/10.
Dyna and Tillo: Gimme the FUCKING whip already. 5/10.
Blue Sentinel Targray: Absolutely average in every way. Nice armor though. Give it to me. 5/10.
Creighton the Wanderer: Nothing special on his own, but pared with Pate their storyline is at least interesting. 5/10.
Mild Mannered Pate: Well, he isn’t Patches that’s for sure, but he does have a fun bit of story. 5/10.
Nashandra: I love you get to talk to her before she’s the final boss, but I wish it was far more substantial than what we get. 5/10.
Ancient Dragon: Incredible lead-up to a confusing pay-off. We all thought he was Aldia but I guess he’s not? Why is he the same as the corpse by Freja? What’s going on. 4/10.
Chancellor Wellager: Eh. Gives you good exposition I guess? 4/10.
Steadyhand McDuff: Shape up, shape up. 4/10.
Carhillion of the Fold: Asshole. 4/10.
Milibeth: Hits you with a fucking ladle. Otherwise not much going on. 4/10.
Cale the Cartograher: I’m going to be honest even looking him up I barely remember anything useful about him. 3/10.
Cromwell the Pardoner: Wishes he was Oswald of Carim. 3/10.
Dark Souls 3
Patches/Lapp: At his absolute peak, the pinnacle of his storyline. 11/10.
Anri of Astora: You go on parallel adventures and they suffer the loss of their friend; then they either die avenging the creepy monster that raised and abused them as kids, or you hijack their story and turn them into your thrall-spouse in a weird mirror emulation of the cycle of kings and their dark-brides. Could have been better served not using the Elite Knight armor. 10/10.
Greirat of the Undead Settlement: He’s just a little guy and he wants to help! Oops--uh oh--oh no. 10/10.
Karla: Shard of Manus that never found a king. Great character, sarcastic but endearing and genuine. 10/10.
Ludleth of Corland: I may be small, but I die a colossus. 10/10.
Singing Cage: Has 4 lines of dialogue and they will never leave my head. Another nana’s disappeared... 10/10.
Firekeeper: Vaguely tragic. Sticks with you even if you decide the entire system is broken and it’s time for the quiet gentle of nothing to settle upon the world. 9/10.
Freide: Lots going on with her, from pretending to be a Priscilla to rule Ariandel, to abandoning Londor’s search for a Dark Lord, to being a failed Lord of Cinder who never linked the flame. Also, yes, fine, one of the best boss fights in the series. 9/10.
Company Captain Yorshka: Oh don’t do this to me oh no don’t ask me how Gwyndolin’s doing oh no oh no. Yes, though, I’m probably a bird don’t worry about it. 9/10.
Irina of Carim: Yeah okay let’s all get super depressed and miserable. 8/10.
Hawkwood the Deserter: This time the Crestfallen Warrior regains his crest and he tries to kill YOU! Okay. Decent twist. 8/10.
Yuria of Londor: You get TWO maidens guiding you this time, and this one’s got a katana and wants you to bring an age of dark. Neat! 7/10.
Eygon of Carim: Oh, THIS asshole. Yeah. Yeah this asshole. 7/10.
Holy Knight Hodrick: Great fashion, great asshole, gets killed by his own daughter. 7/10.
Knight Vilheim: A maille MANTLE? Yes I love that fashion. Doesn’t have much presence beyond appearance and threatening you but like, yeah it’s a good presence. 7/10.
Archer Giant: Okay you hardly interact with him but he’s a MEMORABLE set-piece oh god my standards are so low the NPCs in Dark Souls 3 fucking suck. 7/10.
Yoel of Londor: Does a good job establishing the stakes and setting this time, and is a neat dude. He dies, it’s surprising and sad. 7/10.
Shrine Handmaid: Time-travel fuckery and a cranky grandma make her a fun experience yeah. 7/10.
The Painter: Priscilla’s... daugther? Reincarnation... narrative continuity? It’s good to know the painted world can continue outside of the cycle of light and dark I guess. 7/10.
Horace the Hushed: Basically an accessory for Anri but nah he’s got his own backstory implications going on. 6/10.
Pickle Pee: Pump...a--RUM! 6/10.
Orbeck of Vinheim: Basically a retread of the mage assassins from DS1. Eh. Not a bad remix though. 5/10.
Ringfinger Leonard: At least it’s a covenant with someone to tell you what the covenant is about. 5/10.
Forlorn Corvid Settler: It’s painful to see Ornifex’s people became a bunch of rotting birds dragging their poop around, but that’s a good thing. 5/10.
Drowsy Forlorn: Okay, he only has a few lines of dialogue but it’s such a strong introduction to Ariandel. 5/10.
Slave Knight Gael: Kind of shows up once, then you summon him, and then there’s a few messages he left, and then he’s... what, the final fucking boss of the ENTIRE franchise? Excuse me? Yes, he’s one of the best boss fights in the ENTIRE franchise, yes, but why, who, what? He’s just the Dark Soul at that point, and YES sure the point is he’s a nobody like you who managed to last until the end of time or whatever, sure, I don’t care. My reaction to him being the final boss of the series was not “Oh hell yeah” but “... huh? What? Why?” 5/10.
Rosaria, Mother of Rebirth: ... are you Gwynevere? Who are you? I want to know more, and I don’t know if that’s a good mystery or just a frustrating lack of content. 5/10.
Cornyx of the Great Swamp: ... eh? Okay? 5/10.
Sirris of the Sunless Realms: ... okay? Sure? Okay. I guess killing your mad father is a story at least? 5/10.
Pilgrim Butterfly Nascent: That’s... neat? She becomes an immortal angel dream supported by a cocoon of her own flesh? Why? Because it’s neat? Sure, it’s neat. 5/10.
Old Woman of Londor: She’s in the game I guess. 4/10.
High Priestess Emma: She tells you what direction to go I guess. Guess she raised Prince Lothric? Okay that’s nice. 4/10.
Blacksmith Andre: Hey remember dark souls 1 you liked dark souls 1 right you like andre right we brought him back please like us. Why is he here. How is he here. What is any of this? 1/10.
Archdeacon McDonnel: Oh, a covenant leader without any dialogue whatsoever. I love not even being given a reason to join a covenant or learning anything about it. 0/10.
Old Wolf of Farron: Oh, a covenant leader without any dialogue whatsoever. I love not even being given a reason to join a covenant or learning anything about it. 0/10.
Siegwhatever: Long may the sun shine! You’re just fucking Siegmeyer YOURE JUST FUCKING SIEGMEYER stop trying to tug at my nostalgia sure you have your own plot with Yhorm that comes out of nowhere but YORE JUST FUCKING SIEGMEYER TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT FUCK YOU 0/10
--
I’m not doing one for Elden Ring because even if I controversially don’t like Elden Ring much, it has a ton of great NPCs and even if it’s fucking OBNOXIOUS finding where they’ve gone in a fucking open world game without a guide without checking every single location in the game every time you do anything spend just 10 hours combing the entire map becausue who knows maybe Alexander is here now maybe Blaidd is inthe fuucking evergoal fuck you--
ahem. excuse me. despite all of that Elden Ring has great NPCs.
BUT MY POINT IS
fuck Dark Souls 3 it has the weakest npcs it fucking sucks
Dark Souls 2? Best NPCs. Best most fun wonderful. Dark Souls 2 best dark souls.

Part 1
Tumblr media
He’d been confused when he first received a summons from King-- no, Prince Camhlaidh. The fae had only been king for a short while, yet it was surprising how startling it was the few times Aodh had seen him since the spell without the royal diadem or the pomp and circumstances that usually surrounded the ruling monarch. He had grown so used to them on the other so quickly, but no, those were reserved for King Ciaran. It was a shock to see the old king alive and well, but when it came down to it, why wouldn’t he be? This was all before his tragic assassination. And though things seemed to be going down a different path than before, or perhaps not if the disastrous ball were to be considered, which Aodh tried not to with an increasingly sour and complicated mood, it was possible his assassination may not even occur in this timeline.
Even if the chances of it might be changing, maybe this would be his opportunity to warn the prince or the king about it in some hopefully subtle enough way to avert the crisis. Maybe it wouldn’t happen, but if the king were to lose his life again and Aodh had done nothing to prevent it having known it was a risk, he wouldn’t be able to forgive himself.
As he was escorted through the familiar wooden and grassy halls of the castle, the guard sent to fetch him soon brought him to a set of doors and announced his presence. When a responding answer came from within, the doors opened to allow Aodh into what was presumably the prince’s sitting room. The room fit the prince-- simple yet elegant. Settees were placed strategically around the space to accommodate as many visitors as necessary and a hearth lay dormant in the balmy weather. Even through his shoes, Aodh could tell that the rugs beneath his feet that covered the room were plush and of the highest quality. And, among the bunches of flowers and vines that crawled across the furniture, possibly a design preference of the prince himself, everything down to the embroidery stitched elegantly across the different fabrics, the gleaming wood comprising the furniture, and every other small detail all must have cost a great deal. But what else could be expected for the sitting room of the future king?
A door to the side of the room lay closed, likely leading in to the prince’s private chambers. Chambers that were a mystery to all since the prince had never taken a lover, but Aodh could hazard a guess that the décor was as equally simple yet carefully chosen as his sitting room.
Near the edge of the room, in front of one of the windowed openings in the wall that allowed a fresh breeze to blow gently into the room, stood the prince himself. He stood with his back turned to Aodh, and merely waved away the guard with a distracted ‘thank you’. The door shut behind the retreating guard’s back, and then they were alone. He couldn’t fathom why the prince would summon him, after all, they very rarely interacted. This was his first time, this timeline or the previous, even being invited to the man’s sitting room. His mother had been of the few gentry who sought the prince’s hand in marriage for her child, preferring instead to set her sight on one of the many other noble children as a match for her heir, and so she had never pushed Aodh to interact with the prince. And the two had otherwise never felt an interest to talk.
So why call him here now?
His answer came soon enough when the prince finally turned and leaned against the ledge of the window, arms crossed in front of him and that always eerie red and gold gazed pinned on him.
Tumblr media
“Tell me what deal you made with that being.”
For what felt like the millionth time in only a short while, Aodh was certain he had misheard.
“I’m sorry?”
“The deal. With the hag. The one whose home appears when you most desire something. The one who presents a deal that seems to magically fix your every problem.” Each word coming from the man was bitten off, tight. “That one. Do not attempt to play coy with me, Aodh. It took some time to shake her magic off, but this is not my first time under its influence and I know its touch well.”
He--he knew?! Panic began to squeeze his throat and his shoulders tensed. What did that mean for this then? Did he...remember everything? And what did he even mean when he said this was not his first time under the hag’s influence? Had the prince made a deal before? Was the deal going on still even now?
“It is abundantly clear what you asked for,” Camhlaidh continued, seemingly undeterred by his shocked silence. “You have been constantly whining for Eilidh since she fled Seelie. And now a blanket of magic convers my land while you now march about with her dotingly at your side?” Something crackled in the man’s words as he spoke, electric and dangerous, and it took Aodh a moment to realize what it was-- anger. Camhlaidh marched towards him, eyes flashing (and it was only now that Aodh realized the silver flecks, scars from the poison he had suffered after the previous king’s assassination, still marred them), and before he could react, a sword was pressed against his neck as he was crowded into the solid wall behind him.

Don’t hate me but… I kinda want you to answer all of the deep dive WIP asks 🥺 if that’s unreasonable tho, just 2, 9, and 10 please!
I am SORRY for the delay!!! i answered every question for BOTH projects so you're in for like.... several thousand words of shit that makes absolutely no sense, but i hope you you enjoy it! :)
1. Who are two characters that don't like each other? What do they reveal about each other to the readers? Will they ever learn to put aside their differences?
White Crane: okay this is hard because like. so many people do not like each other. (I know I made a post once about how terrible it would be to be one of twenty-eight people that have the power of dead gods but are trapped in stupid human bodies and you're all a thousand years old and hate each other so so so so so much because you all SUCK.) But for the sake of simplicity, I will talk about Ciaran and Sihla who never got along but only played nice to keep Anwei happy. They absolutely do NOT put aside their differences lmao once everything kind of, um, blows up between the three of them, all they want to do is KILL each other. She makes it her life's goal to make him suffer, and he basically loses his sanity in the process of trying to find a way to kill her for good. The beef is unbelievable. ANYWAY, what they reveal about each other is that Ciaran is not nearly as innocent in anything as he likes to pretend and Sihla is not as guilty as everyone says she is. I mean, she is still a terrible person in many ways, but that does not excuse the things he did to her all those years ago. She hates him for many, many good reasons.
Old Blood: Andhira HATES the entire Ekion family, but specifically the oldest son (who does not have an official name yet.... oops). He doesn't much care for her either but is usually too busy trying to better his social standing to worry too much about her. Except when they're in the same room together (which happens semi-regularly because her brother is kind of in love with him lmao). They hate each other for the exact same reason and it's that they're both SO arrogant. They look down on everyone around them (which in Andhira's case is like. fair. She's the firstborn of the two most powerful people on the planet, and the only person that comes close to that level of power is her twin brother who was born a mere fourteen minutes after her) but think the other is completely unjustified in their actions. Really all it reveals to a reader is that they both kind of suck and need to get over themselves because all that behavior does is make people resent you. They only put aside their differences because she does kind of need his help once or twice, but they would gladly spit in each other's face and/or push each other down a flight of stairs in the name of pettiness.
--
2. What do you hope your readers will take away from your wip? Is there an intentional theme to the story?
These can be answered together! I started writing these stories because I wanted to have fun but they've both kind of morphed into a long-winded way of saying that like. it's okay to be messed up and hate yourself and have major internal struggles because there are people who still love you. I KNOW it doesn't sound like that from uhhhhhh literally everything I've ever said about this stuff but bear with me. The BIG theme is that love is EVERYTHING. All kinds of love. It's the reason to keep on going. You are never alone, even strangers can love you in their own way, etc etc etc etc. Also gay love fucking prevails always and forever.
--
3. What do you love most about your protagonist?
Yixing is funny and weird and definitely a horse girl and he kind of sucks sometimes because he's stubborn as hell and has terrible people skills and maybe also a drinking problem, but he is kind and empathetic and despite the absolute hell he's lived through, he still sees the good in people and knows that it's easy to make mistakes and that most people deserve second chances in life. Also I like him because he is without a doubt the ideal man and I made him that way on purpose. And god I wish we could drink together. I'm talking stumbling drunk, crying on the bathroom floor, please-hold-my-hair-i'm-about-to-throw-up kind of drinking. We would have a great time being stupid together I think.
Vera is resilient and mean and stubborn and cold and off-putting and hard to get to know, and she sucks for those reasons but it's also why I love her so much. She has also lived through hell and it didn't make her try to see the good in people like Yixing does. It just made her bitter and resentful. She warms up over time, but she fights tooth and nail against it. I also love her so much because she is the archetype of like. the washed up former prodigy that has to return sort of against her will to her old life, and she realizes that she misses it in some ways but also remembers exactly why she left. I would Not want to drink with her (because she doesn't drink anymore), but I would love to take one of her art classes.
--
4. Is there anything in the story that is implied but not directly stated? Will this become more relevant later on? How perceptive would a reader have to be to pick up on this?
White Crane: This is hard because I'm so invested in my own shit that it feels obvious to me, but I try to lay out a little candy trail that tells the reader that Ciaran and Anwei are Not What They Seem right from the start. It’s hard to explain without specific examples but it’s in the way they talk, they way they interact with other people, the way certain things they say don’t line up, etc etc etc. And there is a Big Hint of what will happen to Ciaran in the second and third installment, but idk if that counts. Also there are definitely implications that Yixing is trans but that's neither here nor there (honestly I’ve gone back and forth on whether or not he should be explicitly trans or if it should be left to reader interpretation because well... I don’t know if I'm capable of writing the nuance of transness because I'm not trans despite my complex and confusing relationship with gender but I'm also not a thirty-something year old Asian man NOR am I a god NOR am I a former vampire hunter NOR am I like. any of the things I write about other than a mean lesbian so. who knows?)
Old Blood: TRUE FANS already know this one, but regular degular readers that haven't participated in funny question friday or read my random late night posting would not immediately know that Josef and the Sovereign were once involved. Basically the only characters in the story that know are Josef, Luka, the Sovereign himself, and Tahire. But there are definitely some hints peppered throughout conversations and perhaps some photos and trinkets that Josef has kept after all this time... It has like no weight on the events of the story but I just think it's fun. Once again I am way too invested to know if it's easy to pick up on or not but I think it takes some theorizing about maybe? Other than that there aren’t any significant secrets.
--
5. Which character has the most intricate backstory? Is this backstory common knowledge from the start, or is it revealed later on? How does the backstory affect the narrative?
White Crane: this is unfair because some of the characters are almost a thousand years old and some of them are like. 35. I DO have a full timeline written out of the thousand years of history that Ciaran and Anwei have lived through, if that counts as an answer. Like it doesn't have every single day and year, but it has all the big events for sure. Barring that, Yixing definitely has a pretty complex backstory. The man gets around lol and I try (and maybe fail?) to make him seem not too complex initially but then things get revealed and you learn more about him and are like “oh my god no wonder this man has Problems.” Also if he was like. “normal” and perhaps “well-adjusted” the story would not exist at all because he is the way he is and makes some of the stupid decisions he does because of his weird little life.
Old Blood: ONCE AGAIN, this is unfair because the Sovereign is like older than god. And Vera is 37. But like. I haven't fleshed him or any of the old ass vampires out nearly as much as Vera so there's your answer I guess? And I guess the important things are known from the start (that she was a prodigy, that she retired because terrible shit happened and she couldn't handle it, that she suffers from significant ptsd because of it, etc), but there is a lot of detail that doesn't come out until much later when she has to confront her Feelings (ewww feelings). Uh... the backstory affects the narrative because it wouldn't exist at all if Vera wasn't plagued by her fucked up blood nightmares lol
--
6. Which two characters have the most complicated relationship? How does their relationship develop over time?
White Crane: Ciaran and Anwei totally. They love each other because they're brother and sister and were all the other had for a VERY long time (and even when they were still uh mortal, they relied on each other constantly), but also they hate each other because they're brother and sister. You know how it is with siblings. I love my brother and sister to pieces but I can't imagine being immortal and having to put up with the both of them for all eternity (sorry guys if you are reading this somehow.... I love you but we are all so annoying god bless). They handled their newfound godhood very, very, very differently and it kind of colors their relationship for the rest of time. There were times where they were extremely codependent and other times where they didn't speak to each other for DECADES. At the start of our story, they're on much better terms and have buried all their hatchets, but it doesn't take much for that to change....
Old Blood: Probably Vera and Andhira? They're only brought together because of their shared fucked up blood nightmares, and neither of them like that thought. They both resent the other for everything they are, and Vera is pretty much completely hostile to Andhira about it for a long time (and Andhira is only just barely cordial lol), but obviously a significant part of the plot revolves around them like. falling in love so they DO get over it after a while :)
--
7. What is the most heart-wrenching scene in your wip? Why?
White Crane: When Yixing fucking DIES. I feel like this one should be self-explanatory. But I mean if you would like further explanation, it's unpleasant and slow and agonizing and nobody can do anything to stop it (haha....... unless?) so Ciaran gets to hold him for a long time and feel really bad about it lol
Old Blood: idk if there are any really heart-wrenching scenes but there are definitely some miserable and uncomfortable scenes like where Vera relives in vivid detail the days that she witnessed the gruesome deaths of her young apprentice and her last lover. They're upsetting because those are the two days that basically ruined her life (and one was the final straw that sent her spiraling completely out of control) and it's painful to watch her have to live with the guilt of what happened even if it wasn't her fault.
--
8. What is a song that you associate with your wip? Explain.
White Crane: not to be basic but absolutely without a doubt in my stupid mind “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears lol it's because uh. well. Everybody wants to rule the world right? Basically way back in 2019 when I was crafting the ideas for the dnd campaign that became this thing instead, I was definitely having a metal gear moment (honestly I’m about to have a metal gear moment NOW lol) and was listening to a lot of like. mgs adjacent music and latched onto this song (and also promises, promises by naked eyes lmao) as some like thematic element. Like my brain making amvs. You know how it is. ANYWAY the point is. The concept was originally way different and was supposed to be more about the immediate aftermath of the so-called end of the world (yes Yixing was still there and yes he was still just some guy), and it focused a lot more on power struggles between all of these insane people that were granted godhood in the wake of the dying world. Which........ is something I'd like to write about at some point because it's intriguing in its own way but at the time I was unequipped to write about that when I really just wanted to write about people who are, for all intents and purposes, quite average getting caught up in the batshit drama of higher powers. (fun fact: Ciaran was supposed to be a tyrant king that ran a death cult and Anwei and Yixing were working together to figure out a way to kill him. Which is. Kind of what my dnd campaign is like now lol BASICALLY he's like if Big Boss was unkillable and could also rip souls out of people's bodies and eat them. I absolutely do not remember what this question originally was. Something about a song?)
Old Blood: THIS is the reason it took me so long to answer this whole thing. I thought long and hard and looked through all my playlists and listened to random songs that came to mind but it turns out the song I was looking for was right in front of me the whole time. DUH. It's “Golden Light” by Twin Shadow :) In my humble homo interpretation, I think it's a song about being afraid to fall in love and. Well. That's the whole point. Also #spoilers but the first time Vera sees Andhira and is like “oops I think I have feelings” is when they've just arrived at Andhira's home and the sun is rising and she looks over at her as they stand at the top of a hill and she has her eyes closed to the sun and she's bathed in golden light and OOUGGGGHGHHH poetic cinema. (honorable mention goes to “Groove is in the Heart” by Deee-lite because it’s quintessential early 90s music that Vera would be super into)
--
9. What does your protagonist want most? What would they do to achieve this? What is something they wouldn't do to achieve this?
White Crane: Yixing wants to be happy for once. Like actually really happy instead of just. getting by. There's a scene where they're making wishes for the next seasons during the summer solstice and someone asks what he wants and he's like “uh I guess I want to still be alive at the end of the year?” and the other person is like “isn't that what everyone wants? Raise the fucking bar please. What do you REALLY want?” and he's stands there for a really long time and thinks about it before finally saying “I think I just want to be happy for once” and everyone else is like. wow. Way to kill the fucking mood dude. Anyway. He has had fleeting moments of happiness in his life but wants nothing more than to feel that way forever. It's kind of hard to say what he wouldn't do for that because like. there's not really much you CAN do in the first place, so I feel like there's even less you couldn't do. I guess he wouldn't like sell his soul to the devil or something lmao (though by being involved with Ciaran he's pretty much halfway there)
Old Blood: to be left alone. Vera just wants a normal life. She really truly does want to pretend that none of the horrible shit happened to her and that she was never a world-famous hunter. And she wants to teach art classes and live a quiet life!!! I mean, she is already mostly doing that exact thing when we first meet her, but obviously she has some hindrances (aka fucked up blood nightmares). She is begrudgingly helping Andhira because she assumes that will fix her problem and that she'll be able to get to that quiet living as soon as all is said and done. The only thing she really wouldn't do to get what she wants is like... live somewhere far away from Josef and Luka lol She likes having them close by more than she wants to be left alone.
--
10. Within your story's world, were there any events that impacted every character (or most characters)? How would they be different if this event never happened? (Alternatively, erase an important even from on character's backstory and imagine where they'd be now.)
White Crane: well. If the stupid old gods didn't all kill themselves and almost end the world then I guess none of this story would exist lol But the actual answer is like. If Yixing had never run out on his girlfriend of ten years then he wouldn't have moved across the continent to Jengmi and wouldn't have made a name for himself way out there and wouldn't have been scouted and recruited and wouldn't have met Ciaran or Anwei and wouldn't have gotten in the middle of the batshit grudge between a bunch of ancient petty gay people and wouldn't have DIED and wouldn't have made one of the ancient petty gay people in particular lose his grip on his humanity via a lust for power in a desperate attempt to guarantee his safety and wouldn't have been the reason that tens of thousands of people die in his name and wouldn't have accidentally set off a chain of events that resulted in him having to hunt down and kill the Actual God that started it all in a fit of jealous rage. So like. maybe he should have just gone through with the wedding. All things considered, his life would have been way less stressful.
Old Blood: uhhh, that's tough because the stuff that happens only really has any effect on the mortal characters (I mean yeah people still try to kill the Sovereign but they're too dumb to know the ACTUAL way to kill him.... haha unless??), so it would be more like a what if Vera didn't witness the violent deaths of both her apprentice and her lover and have a full blown nervous breakdown and abandon her career? Well...... I think most things in the plot would transpire more or less the same, except she would be WAY less pissed off about it. In fact, she would probably be hyped as hell to get the chance to make the acquaintance of the Sovereign's family like Josef had before her. The thought of Vera being upbeat and not a sleep-deprived asshole that hates being dragged back to her old life..... ew. Not that I enjoy her suffering but you know what I mean. It just wouldn't be the same.
--
11. What is something from your wip that you just really want to ramble about?
Are you sure you're ready for this. This is going to be so so so so long I'm sorry in advance. It's Saturday night and I'm alone and kind of sad so I'm just going to let loose.
As I hone down plot elements for next two installments in my little trilogy, I have kind of become obsessed with the passage of time and how different it must feel to someone that, well, lives forever. One of the ways I'd written (that has since been kind of changed) for Yixing to start to figure out what Ciaran really is was that he would casually be looking through his bookshelf and find an old photograph of Ciaran, Anwei, and their mom standing backstage together after one of his performances. And when he eventually asks Ciaran about it, he gets upset because how dare you touch the one thing I have left to remember my mother? To remember what my life used to be like? There are so many names and faces and places and foods and sensations that I've forgotten in the 940 years I've lived like this and I would give anything I have to see any of it just one more time because I didn't know that the last time I would ever speak to my mom we would have an argument on the phone about how I need to go to the temple and pray for good fortune on my birthday, or that the last time I would ever see my best friend would be at 6am when we both came into the studio to practice and he asked me to go out to breakfast and I said no because I thought a nap would be more important. And there are so many people that I've watched die whose names I never learned and whose faces I forgot the moment I turned away, and there are so many others that I loved so dearly that I had to leave behind because they grew old and I didn't. And I have lived lifetimes in solitude to keep myself a secret from other people and I have died more than any person should ever have to die and I have witnessed atrocities no one should ever witness and I hate everything about this life so much but I love everything about this life so much and I wouldn’t trade it for anything but I think I would give it all away in an instant if only to remember the scent of my mother's favorite perfume and I think I would give it all away in an instant if it meant I didn't have to watch you turn to dust in my arms.
ANYWAY. I think a lot about the agony of loving things that aren't permanent and how it really DOES drive you mad because lately I have been unbelievably nostalgic for certain things that weren't even that long ago but..... I didn't appreciate them at the time and I feel so guilty about it. (And like. I too would give up my entire life to be able to remember the scent of my grandmother's favorite perfume.) And all my pent-up sadness is for things that only happened in my childhood. I have pictures and videos and other people to share those memories with, but what does it feel like to be one of very few people that watched the entire world fall apart and rebuild itself and have nothing to hold onto from that time? What does it feel like to foster dozens of generations of children and outlive every single one of them? What does it feel like to have only fragments of memories of entire lifetimes? How lonely is it? I mean, Ciaran and Anwei have each other and that makes a difference but it still has to be the most isolating feeling. And then there's the pain that comes with memories that have faded or otherwise become hazy. I doubt either of them remember their father's face. They hadn't seen him in years even before it all happened. If it wasn't for that single photo he has, they wouldn't remember their mother's face either. Do they still remember her name? Or her birthday? Do they remember anyone else? Cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, friends, coworkers? If they do, do they even want to talk about it? One thing I worry about in my own life (and this is how I know I have Problems) is that I'm so afraid that talking about memories will alter them somehow. There are so many things that I don't even like to share because once the words are spoken the little vhs tape that has all my memories has been recorded over, even if it's just by a single frame. Something about it has been changed forever each time I talk about it. Do they feel the same way and keep things to themselves instead of sharing the sadness? I think maybe they used to talk about the “old days” or whatever much more often back in the past, but as the years went by.... they just learned to keep it to themselves.
I think maybe I have a lot of anxiety about the passage of time and of being forgotten!
Anyway again. The passage of time drives me insane. And I think it would make me even more insane if I had been chosen to carry the mantle of a dead god and would live forever. My dog died a year ago and I still cry like every single day thinking about her. If I was doomed to live forever I don't know how the sadness wouldn't swallow me whole! No wonder all the people in this book are fucking CRAZY!!
And don't even get me started on the Sovereign lol he's like “oh boo-hoo you've lived for not even a thousand years? Bitch they hadn't invented fucking GLASS yet when I was born. The horse wasn't domesticated yet. Cry harder!!”

I can’t be bothered to make the graphics for my muses today, they’re mainly soldiers because we’ve been watching The Night Shift and NCIS recently and they’re all awake. Despite the fact that these aren’t all of my military, former military or soldiers of other kinds, this list is still longer than my usual but a lot of these muses have no interactions yet so feel free to hit me up for things with them.

Romance Tag
I was tagged by @pheita 1. How big a part does romance play in your novel? Hahahaha! It’s paranormal romance so a lot. For Dreaming it’s also pretty important even if it is more of a subplot. In TAHE it’s also more of a subplot but still pretty important. Look I like the love stuff okay? Okay.
2. What is the nature of the romance in the story? Are there any tropes it follows? (Infatuation at first sight, enemies to lovers, best friends to lovers, etc?) In the NBC universe, you’ll find a lot of different pairings. There is definitely the slow burn with Dimitri and Red, and even a bit of Enemies to lovers with Hope and Ciaran. Enemies to lovers or more maybe just opposite sides of the world to lovers is a common one for me I guess. I have cop and thief, cop and vigilante, general and mercenary.
3. Why did you decide to pair specifically these two characters? What makes their relationship compelling?  Wow, I have so many romances I don’t know who to address here. I guess I’ll go with Hope and Ciaran since I’m querying that book right now.
Hope and Ciaran are both so deeply flawed; they have so much to work through. They’ve experienced trauma and in fact, go through more in the book itself. I wanted to show that just because you have shit to work through doesn’t mean you don’t deserve love. I wanted to show that love can save you and still require hard work and commitment. It isn’t easy all the time. That’s life. I wanted to show that two people can both be incredibly strong and incredibly fragile, and come together to create something better of each other.  4.  How do you handle your characters’ chemistry? Each of my pairings has different flirt levels, Than being like a million and Miyu being a solid zero. I think in terms of chemistry and interaction it was important for me to show that the characters could have very different levels of obvious attraction and still work as a romantic group. 5.  At which point in your story do your characters realize that they’re in love? Oh, I like to put that off to the end. A perfectly timed I love you is like crack to me. Hope and Ciaran don’t say it to each other till the end and realize they do love each other while they’re apart. Red and Dimitri are pretty aware of their feelings when the book opens but are afraid to do anything with them. Again, they wait till the end to drop the L Bomb. In Dreaming it’s going to be complicated because Breech and D were a couple before she lost her memories. They have to re-fall in love. And Stark has a thing for them that they never vocalize until D is finally back. Complicated indeed. I tag @idreamonpaper @sheralynnramsey @incandescent-creativity @no-url-ideas-tho

Ornstein because why not haha.
How I feel about this character
Originally I only saw Ornstein as a really cool boss with a nice background. That’s about it, I didn’t really go into much thought with him being the last of the Four, the feeling of melancholy the lore about him gives, none of that. It wasn’t until I started RPing as him that I tried to learn more about him. One year later with some of the experimental and at times a little embarrassing threads done I really began to dwelve into his psyche, the idea of the character, my personal vision of him. Just how rad it is that he is a dragonslayer, the fantastic design of his armor, that odd feeling of mystique around him...
Like, there’s no point in denying it, I am super fond of Ornstein now. He plays a pretty big role in my life nowadays because he’s the catalyst through which I interact with all of you. It feels a bit odd to say this about a fictional character, but he really is the reason I have met so many of you, and what allows me to enjoy this hobby of writing with other writers. Because of this, I probably “overvalue” the character, so to speak.
It’s funny- I am at a point where I rarely feel insecure about my writing, something that did happen before. Of course, I am aware of my imperfections and I try to improve every day, but I am just so happy with this blog that I don’t even care if I don’t do things perfectly. And that is so difficult to achieve with anything, with art, sports, any discipline that requires effort.
Anyways- back to Ornstein.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
ALL of this blog’s ships. I actively try to stop me from shipping but I cannot help it, I love them all. I’m shipping trash.
That being said, separating the videogame character from my own personal version of him- I never really thought about his romantic relationships. He strikes me as the kind of guy who is a loner because of his job, really.
My non romantic OTP for this character
All the Four Knights. Ornstein and Gough, dragonslaying bros. Ornstein and Ciaran being really nice and trusting with each other the way the cannot be in their jobs. Ornstein and Artorias being the best of friendly rivals and oh my God having “Road to El Dorado” style interactions when they were younger.
And of course, Ornstein being a captain his knights look up to, while he also does his best to help them. Ornstein being really fond of Gwyn’s children. A younger Ornstein seeing Gwyn’s Firstborn as a master and brother he never had.
And don’t even get me started on Gwyn. I just realized that I have never RPed a thread with a Gwyn roleplayer and that baffles me so much. That man is like, the very center of Ornstein’s life holy shit.
My unpopular opinion about this character
With the latest information that Ornstein left Anor Londo to look for the Nameless King, and the apparent(and I say apparent because it might very well not be true, it’s not explicitly stated) implication that the Ornstein fought in DS1 was an illusion, this isn’t so unpopular, but...
One thing I didn’t like back when DS3 wasn’t out is how many people considered Ornstein to be a pushover compared to certain characters(the other Knights of Gwyn for example) because of his DS 1 boss fight mechanics. First of all, a boss fight should not indicate an enemy’s abilities. I don’t think it’s fair to consider Ornstein’s performance there a perfect indication of his speed and strength, since he was purposely made slower than some bosses(reacting, starting to attack) so that the player would stand a chance against two bosses. Plus certain areas being accessed later does not necessarily mean they have stronger bosses lore-wise.
Add to that the fact that I headcanon that fight as being against an illusion(at least Ornstein), and I don’t think we have fought the real Ornstein at his best. But then again, that could just be me being biased because he is my muse.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
I feel bad for saying this because there are so many other characters who get less love and definitely deserve at least a few more references(like Ciaran!) However, I cannot lie.
I really, really want to know just what happened to Ornstein. Where he is right now. Is he dead? Alive? Somewhere inbetween? What happened between him and the Nameless King? With every game, his fate seems more unclear.
This is just me being hopeful without reason(since, as far as I am aware, there is no more content planned for Dark Souls 3)... but I feel like there’s some unused lore about him. Something about him just feels... important, I don’t know. There’s like this odd attention to him, even if he is just a secondary character.

tbh,,, i like season 3. i like all the characters, aj is my wife, and i liked less drama. also liked not having to pretend i cared about a boy i didnt want to be with cheating when i was just trying to kiss Talia. also none of the going back and forth between im sure i want to be with you and i think this is just a summer fling and im gonna date someone else. dont care abt guys but the girls designs are so nice, and tai and ciaran getting together if ur with a girl is so sweet. aj actually cares about you and you cheating and shes adorable yall spend so much time together
i can see that anon! i definitely see it.
season three is not bad at all for the players that enjoy something light and fun, without the drama.
having a female li right away is high on the scoreboard, and having the first boy couple in the game, being ciaran and tai, is honestly what i wanted to have since season 1!
representation on season 3 is amazing, and i agree with you there. the different ethnicities, hair textures, skin tones, even names!
i’m just not the fluffly/bubbly type of person, and i think i would’ve enjoyed it if it wasn’t for the whole colorful friendships and rainbow vibes. i like cutthroat interactions, people being shitty and drama, in general. it’s one of those things, i like it in the games so i don’t have it in real life.
but honestly? a lot of players like season 3 and that’s valid too!

Football-mad mum makes light opposition of cancer and chemo to keep coaching
New Post has been published on https://cialiscom.org/football-mad-mum-makes-light-opposition-of-cancer-and-chemo-to-keep-coaching.html
Football-mad mum makes light opposition of cancer and chemo to keep coaching
When Tricia McAneny was told she had breast cancer, she had one immediate goal – to keep coaching football.
Football-loving Tricia grew up rubbing shoulders with talented players including current Dumbarton boss Steven Aitken.
When her son joined their local Erskine youth football club, she volunteered to help with coaching.
Seven years on, she has an array of professional coaching qualifications and has been mentored by top-flight coaches including Scotland women’s team boss Shelley Kerr.
Tricia loves nothing more than being on the training pitch (Image: UGC)
She wasn’t going to let treatment for breast cancer stop her from attending coaching sessions or watching her team’s games every week.
Tricia, 44, of Erskine, Renfrewshire, said: “When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, it was very important to me that life went on as normally as possible.
“Football is my passion and, when I was going through treatment, it gave me such a great focus.
“I didn’t make it to every training session and game but I made it to most.
“I couldn’t do a lot of the physical side of coaching but I could still shout instructions like a sergeant major and tell the players what to do.

“The boys I coach were brilliant with me, always treating me just as they normally would and I’ve no doubt that staying so involved in what I loved doing helped keep me strong.”
Mum-of-two Tricia was diagnosed in February 2017.
She spotted a suspicious dimple on her breast just days after losing her mum Sophia, 66, to breast cancer.
Tricia said: “My mum had initially been diagnosed with breast cancer 16 years earlier, when I was pregnant with my daughter.
“Then, 14 years later, her breast cancer came back – only this time it had spread into a lot of different places including her bones and lung.
(Image: Sunday Mail)
“My mum was told the disease was incurable and she died 18 months later, two days before Christmas in 2016.
“A few days later I was coming out of the shower when I noticed an indentation on my breast that I thought was quite strange.
“I spoke to my sisters about it the day before our mum’s funeral and they told me I needed to get it checked out.”
Tricia’s GP referred her to the breast unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.
She said: “I went along on my own because I wasn’t really worried but I started to get a real sense of deja vu – taking me back to my mum’s breast cancer diagnosis.
“The other women I was chatting to in the clinic were coming and going quite quickly but I was being sent for test after test and still there five hours after I had arrived. My worried husband and sisters kept texting to ask what was taking so long and I told them the clinic was really busy.
“But I knew the news I was going to be given wasn’t good.”
Tricia was diagnosed with breast cancer that had spread into her lymph nodes.
She said the hardest thing was breaking the news to those she loved, including her husband Scott, 49, daughter Brogan, 18, and son Ciaran, 14.
Tricia’s mum and dad Sophia and Patrick Gallagher (Image: UGC)
Tricia said: “My dad Patrick had been diagnosed with a type of bone cancer and died just nine months later in February 2012, which had been a huge shock.
“Then my mum was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer and we lost her too.
“As a family we had been hopeful that 2017 was going to be a better year for us all but here I was being diagnosed with breast cancer and I felt so guilty having to tell everyone.”
Tricia started to have chemotherapy but she had to stop the treatment after her body reacted badly to three different types of drug.
She said: “As a family, we joke that I’m quite jinxed – or possessed by a white witch – because of some of the things that happen to me but you just have to laugh.
“It turns out I’m allergic to chemotherapy, which is not good when that’s supposed to be the main part of your treatment.
“The first two doses of chemo I was given made me very ill and had no effect on my cancer at all.
“When I received the third dose, it caused an instant, very painful reaction – a burning sensation right through my body – as did the next type of chemotherapy I received. So I couldn’t receive any more.”

Tricia underwent a mastectomy followed by radiotherapy.
Throughout her treatment, she was determined not to stop coaching at the club, where she trains an under-16s team. She is also the club’s coaching coordinator.
She said: “I first decided to get involved in coaching when my son started at the club.
“My husband was badly injured in a car accident around 20 years ago and, after undergoing 16 operations, had to have his leg amputated.
“He wasn’t able to get involved with the coaching but I was happy to help.
“I started doing all my coaching qualifications and really loved what I was doing, although it was tough at the start as there was a lot of ignorance surrounding women in football.
“I used to work as an air hostess and sometimes I would dash to games with my big hair all still tied up and my make-up on.
“Sometimes men involved with other teams used to ignore me but that just made me all the more determined to do well.”
Determined Tricia is looking forward to the future (Image: Sunday Mail)
Tricia said she was overwhelmed by the support she received from the youngsters she coached throughout her illness.
A year-and-a-half on from her diagnosis, tests show no trace of the disease and while Tricia is continuing to recover, she is looking forward to the future and determined to do all she can to help raise awareness of breast cancer.
Next month, Tricia will appear as a model in the Breast Cancer Care Scotland Fashion Show, which takes place on Thursday, October 25, at the Hilton hotel in Glasgow.
Breast Cancer Care are the only specialist UK-wide support charity for people affected by breast cancer.
Funds raised at the show will help the charity continue to provide care, support and information to people affected by breast cancer.
Tricia is looking forward to swapping her tracksuit for something more glamorous.
She said: “Breast Cancer Care provided amazing support for me. I attended some of the charity’s courses, including Moving Forward, which helps women find their new normal after breast cancer treatment.
“I’m very excited about taking part in the fashion show and can’t wait to see what amazing outfits all the models will be wearing.”

IT’S TIME FOR A SHOW!
Islanders, we owe you an apology. This February we held a Valentine’s Day Carnival. We gave you rides, we gave you games, we sent you off on blind dates--but we forgot something important. We didn’t provide any entertainment. But don’t worry! We’ve realized our mistake, and we’re rectifying it. We here in administration have arranged for a handful of acts to perform this weekend for your entertainment--and not only that, we’ve arranged for a Meet and Greet with the performers this Saturday in the ballroom to help you decide which acts you want to see! Come on down, grab a snack, and socialize with our talented performers. We hope you’ll enjoy the show.
On the morning of April 27, those who participated in the blind date event (or who submitted their characters to be matched for this portion) will be brought to the ballroom and chained beside their partners. They will not be told why they are there. Supernaturals will have their powers bound and will be essentially human.
Those who are not in matches will be invited to a Meet and Greet with performers. They will not be told the true nature of those performances or who the performers are until they arrive in the ballroom. Spectators will be allowed to interact with those in chains throughout the day.
On April 28, those in pairs will be forced to participate in a warped version of the carnival game which they played on their date (or, for those who were just matched, a game assigned at random). One half of the pair will be forced to torture the other--these roles have been chosen randomly. Those assigned to the role of torturer will be given a chance to participate willingly; if they refuse, they will be spelled physically to torture their partner against their will. The powers of all involved in the performances will be be bound for the duration of the event--neither the torturer nor the victim will have access to any supernatural powers they may normally possess. For this portion of the event, those not in pairs are invited to watch these ‘performances’.
EVENT GUIDELINES:
The event will run from 11:59pm April 26 - 11:59pm April 28, and will last two in game days--one for the meet and greet, one for the punishments.
All non-event threads should be paused for the duration of the event.
As always, the starter rule will be in effect. Since we have been having issues lately with things not showing in the tags, or showing but disappearing a few hours later, please check the tag when you post your starter. If you do not see it, chances are no one else can too, so please post a link in the ooc group!
For multiple muses, please space your open starters at least two hours apart.
Beneath the cut, you’ll find a list of pairs, and the games assigned to them.
