Inseparable | Jax x gn! reader (romantic/sfw)

note: the reader is 21, and has only been in the circus for about a month before Pomni entered.

In the first month y/n had been in the circus, they had gotten a good handle on things around there and had gotten along with everyone at the circus.

Jax was beyond different though, he'd always tease and mock y/n trying to get a reaction out of them.

At first, this didn't seem to bother y/n, until they spent more time with the purple rabbit.

After a while, y/n and Jax had become inseparable, to the point you would rarely see the one without the other. It was almost like seeing Queenie and Kinger again.

That reminder had always made Kinger sad, but he was just happy y/n was happy (he sort of became their father figure over the course of a month).

As the month went on, y/n was slowly falling for their best friend, and was terrified to move forward with their feelings.

So they pushed Jax away, just like he always seemed to do with the others and sort of pushed the feelings away, trying to pretend everything was normal.

Jax of course noticed this, and had tried to confront them more than once, but they'd always make an excuse to avoid him.

It started to irritate him, to the point where he had to go to Ragatha and ask her what was wrong with y/n.

Ragatha didn't know why they were acting like this, and encouraged him to try to get them to open up to him about what was bothering them.

Against his wishes of not asking for help, he went with Ragatha's advice, which in turn did help a lot, because the next moment y/n was hugging him, terrified that he'd disappear.

He wasn't used to affection like this, so he just patted them on the head with his gloved paws.

"I'm sorry..." Would be the first thing to leave their mouth, which confused him as they continued, confessing that they were falling for him and didn't know how to act.

To say Jax was surprised was an understatement. They liked him? Why? And for how long?

The older man didn't care, he just wanted y/n to keep him close and never push him away again. He thought they were abstracting on him by the way they avoided him like the plague.

He harbored those same feelings though, he just didn't know how to show it.

Guess they had something in common that didn't involve teasing their friends (y/n was actually funny and not hurtful).

Plotting .. isn't as hard as people make it seem.

For the longest time I always thought plotting was this super in depth thing where you had to hash out a whole story right away and if you're like me who struggles to put something together on the spot, that's pretty intimidating. However, I've learned a neat little trick.

Think about how your character would interact with someone elses. Maybe hash some small things out with the partner. Don't expect things to go a certain way but rather have multiple options open as a muse can go down a completely different path than what you originally planned.

Plotting is something that should be done over time and not hashed out storywise in one go. Yes there are cases where you can have a beginning and ending plotline, but the whole middle part is empty. Instead of trying to plot out every move, suggest multiple things, see what happens, approach it slowly, etc etc.

Plotting is more like talking to your partner to see where your muses stand. It's talking out all things, big and small, and goes a lot better than just winging it at times.
