Fresh from pupating! A few days ago, I had peeped in on her little pupal chamber and saw that the pupa had turned black, and there appeared to be moisture gathering around it. My view was very limited, but I could see that the pupa had turned over so that the legs were underneath, rather than on top as it had been prior. I assumed that someone had jostled the jar, causing her to roll, and that this had somehow killed her--hence the blackened, moist(I assumed to be a sign of rotting) pupa.  But no, I guess she was emerging from it! Very cool!! I am so happy that she was able to pupate successfully despite my unpreparedness and lack of knowledge haha Oryctes rhinoceros [if you retweet this, please tag it appropriately. I hate to read post from folks who have a (very reasonable) phobia expressing a desire to kill my beloved bugs.]
