Things I realized about FFXVI while writing my FFXVI series:
- There is not (enough) much Jill and Gav interactions
- We do not know for sure how the destruction of of Origin will inflience the blight, akashic and / or the Dominants
- Dion and Terence are both the same age as Joshua. This is probably well-known, I do not know why I personally thought Dion is Clive‘s age instead
- This means Clive can big brother all of them
- Dion has similar experiences as Clive and Joshua both (will get into that in my fic)
- There is a Remembrance Ceremony at which Joshua and Dion met as kids mentioned exactly once, but that’s never picked up again. It is not mentioned if Dion also met Clive then
Will probably find more as I go but that’s thing that stood out to me as I collected info for the fics

The clangorous Blisheag
My response to this week's BestiaryPosting challenge from @maniculum
Here we have a lance (a group) of Blisheags, gathered round a quite expressive crow standing atop a makeshift podium. There's a couple of different Blisheags here, we can clearly see a couple of hounskull Blishaegs, some sallet Blisheags, and even the rarer frogmouth blisheag... Are they different but related species, do we have some sexual dimorphism here, or are these just different lifestages of the birds? The answer remains a mystery; the bestiary authors are not telling...
Hey! I managed to fill a new fountain pen to try drawing with... I think it's going to take a bit to get my hand in again :D I was thinking it would be much easier using a regular fountain pen, but clearly I've started to get used to the idiosyncracies of the weird pens I have been using! I also (still) need to listen to myself and draw larger if I'm working on A5 paper. Still pleased how this came out in the end!
Jinhao shark fountain pen with a fine, hooded nib (the hooded nib means it dries out less quickly, and can also prevent inky fingers to some degree) with Monteverde Raven Noir ink, over initial pencil sketch.
Also, thank you for the suggestions for animal anatomy/drawing books, I have some stuff to keep an eye out for!
As ever, reasoning under the cut...
Blisheags get their name, [redacted], from the creaking sound they make, like crickets, [redacted]. The sound comes from their mouth rather than their voice, because they make it by clashing their bills.
Okay, this is cool. So, the main thing we know about them physically is that their beaks make a 'creaking' sound (not the way I'd ever thought to describe crickets or grasshoppers chirruping, but I can absolutely see it). So we need to do something interesting with the beaks, but what...?
Blisheags are the heralds of spring; they share a sense of community; they are the enemies of snakes; they fly across the sea, making their way in flocks to Asia. Crows go in front of them as their guides, the Blisheags following them as if in an army.
This is where everything started to come together. In terms of the composition, I liked the idea of the Blisheags gathered round a crow, about to lead them all across the sea.
This also meant that I was figuring that Blisheags were probably corvids too (plus, corvids are awesome), maybe taking some influence from jackdaws, following their larger (and wiser?) cousins the crows?
Also, the birds being compared to an army, beaks creaking... like armour? Hence the decision to style their heads and beaks like medieval helmets. I'm sure I'm not the first person to come up with this idea, and I'm sure others have done it better, but it was fun!
There's also got to be some heavy inflience from @secondlina's Crow Time comics (which are awesome and you should check them out if you haven't already).
Blisheags possess a strong sense of duty towards their young. They are so keen to keep their nests warm that their feathers fall out as a result of the constant incubation. But their young spend as much time caring for them when they grow old, as they spend caring for their young.
I've included a nod to this, with one of the hounskull Blisheags near the stump - its chest and legs are all fluffy and we have some moulted feathers scattered around from where it has been incubating its nest. I wanted to go more towards the natural fluffiness from moulting birds, rather than having feathers plucked out due to stress (or other birds), mostly because it was more pleasant to draw!

I keep seeing people said Marinette will be saving Adrien and she'll fix the Agreste mess just like foreshadowed by Natch and Marc fairy tail and if that's true that she'll fix the Agreste mess... Then what's the point of Adrien being there? A thropy for her? A simple love interest who cheer on her for fixing his family?? Aren't we already have two examples why Marinette is not allowed to "fix" abused child family problem? Bubbler and Queen Wasp definitely a glaring example of how it end up being "good" for both Chloe and Adrien. /s why people thinking it's good for Marinette to step in and fix Agreste mess when she doesn't even know what it feels to live in abused famile. And now I couldn't help but thinking the whole Adrien being sentimonster is a way for Marinette to save him because she's the guardian and she'll figure out how to make him break free from the amok or peacock inflience
I don't think it will be pointless even if Marinette does end up being the main person to free Adrien from Gabriel's control, especially since abuse victims - ESPECIALLY children - can't always get out by themselves. It's pretty difficult when the person abusing you has so much legal power over you.
I do hope that Adrien's given some sort of role in his own freeing though. Even if he can't get to a better place on his own, he should be allowed to get at least partway there.
I do think that Marinette isn't necessarily the best person to try and help with an abusive family situation, since like you said she doesn't really understand it that well, but there isn't a perfect candidate for the role either. Felix and Kagami definitely understand (and Kagami's circumstances are nearly as bad as Adrien's), but if anything they're worse at navigating that sort of thing than Adrien is. They really need an adult who's actually gotten out of an abusive family situation to help with this I think. Failing that, Plagg's probably the most understanding, comforting option.

Loving the Koskelas isnt enough anymore. @zephyrone01 and I have ventured into new waters that are the possible Huotari history and their backstories 😪
And it’s angsty!
One option is that Ilmari was possessed. By the the Dark Presence and his brother Jaakoppi wanted to cover for him. But due to historical conflicts (hostility against Finnish immigrants, the language barrier) people misread/mistranslated Ilmari’s sudden possessed behaviour in a very bad light. And back in the 20s people were less familiar with the DP so they also didn’t know how to fight or counter it 😪 Ilmari starting similar to Ilmo, happy and energetic but unlike Ilmo the DP wears him down bit by bit and infliences him stronger. Usuallu Jaakoppi can break through the DP’s influence but at one point he doesnt and it’s what gets him killed (similar to what happens in Ilmo’s nightmare in the manuscript description)

People should really stop overcomplicating spirit work by making it sound like spirits have a whole different, special set of rules when in reality the best rule of thumb with spirit work is "if you wouldn't take it from another person, don't take it from a spirit." You're not going to go around telling people your boss is an evil cult leader just for bad business practices, so there's no point in labeling a spirit as "evil", "dangerous", or "malicious" when you'd call an incarnate being "an asshole" or "a creep" for the same behaviors.
Your language is inflienced by the subconscious, and your subconscious can be influenced by language in turn. Make sure you really, truly believe what you say about this sort of thing. Offer discarnate entities the same certainty of existence as you give to incarnate ones. If you wouldn't use the same word for a friend, coworker, parent, etc., don't use it for a spirit, god, landwight, house spirit, etc.
If a post, book, article, etc. is worth using, you should be able to replace any and all references to the metaphysical and supernatural with the mundane and physical. If a post says "spirit/entity/etc." you should still be able to comprehend it perfectly by substituting with "person/[person's title/how they know the individual]". You should be able to replace "spirit companions/SoulBonds" with "friends/family/partner/significant other". And you should be able to use any references to magic or energy as metaphors for someone's actions on a mundane level.
