#in the words of Ted Lasso

I was absolutely heartbroken about Julie and the Phantoms being cancelled. Believe me. To this day, it is still one of my favourite shows of all time, and it breaks my heart knowing that I will never see those characters in new settings and situations ever again. We can still create fan content (which is amazing!!), but obviously it’s not the same as.. ya know... getting season 2....
But here’s the thing; I feel as though Julie and the Phantoms (somewhat) got a happy ending? I mean, the curse is lifted, and the boys didn’t cross over, but they can interact with Julie now that’s something! And they got to perform at that cool venue (I forgot the name of it it’s been a while lol) and honestly, if we forget that ONE scene at the very end of the very last episode, that’s a satisfying ending!! Like sure, there is a lot of wasted opportunity and there’s a LOT more they could’ve done with it, but tbh if i just ignore the last scene, I’m happy with that ending!!
Now, the problem with OFMD is that... this isn’t a good ending.
This isn’t even an ending.
It feels like the end of act 1.
It’s not finished.
Stede and Ed (not to mention all the other couples) are seperated. The crew of The Revenge are stranded. Ed is broken.
This isn’t the end. This cannot be the end...

I could 100% see Roy’s sister seeing Roy and Jamie bickering over the stupidest most inconsequential shit just for the sake of bickering and her deciding to stir the pot by saying “Wow, you two really fight like an old married couple…”
And then Jamie making a face like that’s the most ridiculous thing that he’s ever heard and scoffing as he argues “We ain’t married”
And then Roy’s argument dying on his tongue as he full body turns to shoot Jamie the most incredulous look like he’s completely lost his mind and sounding confused and offended as he adds “We’re not a couple”
And Jamie would brush that off with a wave of his hand like “Yeah, sure, that too. But more importantly, he’s the old one. You can’t be an old married couple if one of you’s ancient and the other’s a sexy little baby”
Jamie would not think once about this interaction after it was over, but it would rattle around Roy’s brain annoying and confusing him for weeks

also. i could scream at how real it was when beard said other people in the room might be gay and every. single person. immediately clocked jamie. no hesitation. even ted looks at him. which means that every single one of them at least once has looked at jamie and had some variation of the thought “huh jamie’s kinda gay. okay then” and moved on with no further thought. also jamie was flattered but didn’t deny it so imo confirmed bisexual jamie tartt

Jamie dyslexic, flappy hands, jumping up and down, i don't know I don't know I don't know, tiny shorts, comfortable clothing, hands in shirt/sleeves, dissociation depression anxiety, tongue thing, not picking up on social cues, can't sit "normally" (curled up on the bench, sitting on the floor, etc), explains his feelings in ways a lot of people think are funny or weird but are actually very accurate and the only way he knows how to describe them, needs to be constantly fidgeting and moving around chewing on hoodie string messing with his mom's pant leg, exaggerated facial expressions, sensory issues Tartt, my beloved

Actually I will say this in regards to Beard, Wembley, and James Tartt Sr
I think Beard After Hours really shows how much the tone of Ted Lasso is seen through framing lens of Ted himself. Even if Ted says the story wasn’t really about him, the thematic weight of the show is absolutely about Ted. And Beard After Hours may be a crazy hallucinatory version in its self, but it’s still basically our only glance into this world when it’s not actively being Ted’s World.
And i think it being Ted’s World is why at Wembley, we only see the implication of violence. It’s always been the undercurrent when Jamie tells people about his dad - that he pushed him to dominate, that he’s a dick - but in that locker room scene? Man. Despite the show avoiding using the word ‘abuse’, everything from the acting to the staging to the dialogue fucking SCREAMS the impending threat of immediate violence from the top of the scene onwards.
I don’t think I have ever seen anyone disagree on the reading of that scene. The way Jamie tells him ‘don’t talk to me like that’ — we all agree that that’s something he learned from Dr Sharon. We are all in agreement, after watching him punch his dad, that it was the first time he’s ever fought back. And we all believe it, that when James got up saying ‘you can have that one for free’ that the threat was immediate and very real.
But before it can reach that point it’s cut off. Beard pulls James away. It’s a tense, hard scene to watch, but the actual violence shown is very minimal.
And then we get to Beard After Hours, where James has followed Beard out of Ted’s world, and we see the actual violence that just as easily could’ve taken place, and likely has before, in a world where Ted Lasso was not the lens with which we viewed things.

Mom, what’s wrong? Why are you here? I mean, if you got something you need to say to me, I'd appreciate it if you just went ahead and said it.

Roy and Jamie doing the celebrities read mean tweets thing but instead of from random people, it’s just all the bullshit they tweeted about each other that the other didn’t see in the time between Roy blocking Jamie on everything after Jamie tagged him in a tweet about how overdue Roy’s retirement was and Roy unblocking him but not telling him and just waiting for him to figure it out himself once they became friends (not that Roy would ever admit that that was what they were)
(Also, they definitely regularly seemingly unprompted tweeted horrible things about each other and fought online before that but neither of them blocked the other (or followed the other) because they preferred tagging the other in their bullshit for extra annoyingness but Roy was just at his limit for putting up with anything when he retired so Jamie said something not even as bad as usual and got blocked instead of the public argument he was anticipating)
Keeley’s like oh god this is a bad idea I’ve seen what they both tweeted and there’s no way this isn’t going to end up with them both pissed and probably getting into a physical fight
But instead, they both find them hilarious and there’s a lot of “oh, that’s a good one” and “that’s not your best work. You said worse to me this morning” and it’s the most Roy Kent’s been caught on camera laughing

seeing people say that ted shouldn't have left england because he has his "found family" there whereas he only has henry in kansas and that he's gonna be miserable is so wild to me. did we watch the same show. man was having breakdowns and panic attacks about being away from his kid he was NOT happy in england he was always going to go back to kansas 😭😭😭 "well henry could have moved to england" if you feel more empathy for a grown ass man who very much DID live in kansas for the first 40+ years of his life than for a kid who would have to leave his friends and family and start living in a different country with a completely different school system and who would either not see his mom regularly OR have the most insane split custody arrangement then i think you lack perspective about what is important for a child's stability 😭😭 like be for real
