So I’ve been joking for a while about how Inko manages to afford all of Izuku’s AM merch
But I decided to nerd out and look closer, and I’m pretty sure the only expensive piece Izuku owns is the poster he got from Sir
You might think his dorm looks absolutely stacked
but that’s only because it’s a very small room and he brought every piece he owns
If you look in his old room it’s all the same posters
so he’s owned it all for at least a few years, he’s been working up to this for god knows how many years, just to be the proud owner of 5 posters so basic even he would put tape on them
All of his figures are less than 50$
One of which he’s had since he was a child
And it doesn’t look like the other unidentified figures are anything special either(except maybe AM in his yellow suit)
Izuku only has generic fanboy shit, like maybe one of the posters is a custom but I honestly I don’t think he owns a single special anything
The dead guy poster is 100% the coolest thing he has, no wonder he’s so reverent about it 💀

So yeah Inko isn’t dropping stacks on merch, I’m pretty sure those sweaters were a 2 for 1 deal because they’re almost identical 💀

not to sound like a 13 year old but i've got particular beef with the idea of the districts of panem lining up with the geography of north america like i Get it i've seen the maps i understand the intent of the author and how it makes sense culturally but deep down inside it just feels wrong to me and i can't do it.
it's like u say "nuclear war wiped out most of the planet" and that's supposed to make me accept that the extraordinarily strong culture of american statehood just collapsed into 12 regional districts like that?? fine i guess if we account for a long long gap of time between nuclear war and the original inception of panem. maybe.
but also. the way it's described clearly implies each district is able to gather its entire population in one square on one day for reaping day and honestly strongly implies that each district + the capitol are comprised of only one urban center (of varying sizes) each implying that the area of these districts Has to be so much fucking smaller than it appears on any of the maps that float around. where is all the empty space. the north american landscape is Huge even with the amount of coastline taken away due to oceans rising and that space is like. a huge huge factor in living here. there is not that sense of geographic scale and empty spaces between districts except like. the forests outside of 12 (speaking of like. katniss is able to walk the entire fence by herself in less than a day to check for weak points. these districts are small. even if 12 is smaller than say 11. that's ridiculously tiny all of these districts have to be small and definitely not entire regions of the continental united states)
also many many other ppl have made this point lmao but. the foreign policy of panem is not mentioned except for those vague notions of a nuclear war in the distant past and it is just. stretching imagination beyond belief to imagine that if panem truly is north america president snow literally is only concerned with domestic policy even the most isolated authoritarian regimes on earth today still have to deal with foreign policy on some level (and north america is lucky to have near self sufficiency w resources bc oil and such but. we do not have rare earth metals to sustain the technology level of panem. i'd be willing to discuss the hypothetical that panem has zero computers and batteries it's not impossible but.)
all in all it's very clear that culture/resources of 12 is inspired by and modeled on appalachia and that the more extreme repression/resources of 11 are inspired by and modeled on agriculture and racist government styles of the deep south etc etc and that makes sense bc like. suzanne collins is deeply entrenched in american culture and so is the hunger games as a series and she absolutely nails the culture and political connections bc it's an extremely adept commentary on modern american society but. the geography just doesn't make sense and raises too many questions and i wish you all would accept like me that it takes place in a fantasy land of pure allegory

ok so. honestly have no hope but i cannot just keep quiet while facing five "this has been deleted. sorry!"'s straight.
thankfully, the bookmarks around them show it was my world trigger bookmarks, and by process of elimination i was able to figure out at least one (1) fic i remember because the premise was really memorable (but it also means those bookmarks were from the same author 😭)
the fic itself was titled something like "in pinkness and health" and it was set in a soulmate au where a sickness called "pink" would sometimes go around. basically, everyone has a limited amount of words they can speak, but the only way to know your soulmate is if their first spoken words would conjure on your skin. the consequences of running out of words was pinkness, where the person would turn pink, and general sickly attributes like fevers, and then die. it created this culture of reserving your words. the actual story follows yuma around who is an inventor, and his current invention replica, who would find people's soulmates. when traveling, yuma comes across a crying and yelling osamu, and they bond. oranges were a prominent part of the fic, osamu giving some to yuma and stuff. after some bonding, osamu, who worked as a choir boy, has caught pinkness and is close to death. yuma tries his best to find osamu's soulmate with replica, but they don't. osamu doesn't die, but i can't remember how they saved him TwT. i know at some point yuma goes to the government to like, bargain replica to help osamu, but everything has left me now

if nothing else, i want to immortalize that fic in this post because that story changed my fucking life, its prose was so good and the imagery so vivid. i remember in the author notes they mentioned that the concept of 'pinkness' was inspired while they themself were sick with a fever, if i remember correctly.
if anyone has read it and would like to add on, or have a copy, i would cry you a river /_ \
one instance during the fic had yuma helping two child soulmates, and their exchange of words were liken to "butthead" or something similar, and it was so cute

I agree, thinking about the potential fallout for Korea and Koreans from Abe's death, it's saddening and concerning. Here's hoping things won't come to the worst. (I have to admit though, I can't help feeling a bit of schadenfreude at Abe getting bumped off. Like, good riddance. Also, thinking about japan more generally, it's a bit of a shame the US had only two a-bombs in '45)
mm yeah, i’m definitely here for “let’s get rid of every single nationalist/imperialist/colonist scum of the earth”, so i do feel that. however, i personally would refrain from wanting japan to get bombed, and i actually lean on the side of thinking it’s a shame that the US bombed japan with atomic bombs to begin with.
is it absolutely disgusting that japan colonized korea (and, i believe, other asian lands), stripped away korean culture, forced korean men into japanese military, and created the system of comfort women and then proceeded to refuse to acknowledge its wrongs even after years of protest? absolutely. absolutely, 100%. as someone whose family is quite literally torn up because of the impact of japanese control + as someone who has had the same anti-korean sentiment tossed at them by japanese folks as a kid, i would like nothing better than to make those responsible beg for mercy that, honestly, i’m not sure they deserve.
however! however, i draw the line at the murder of god knows how many innocent civilians. japan committed horrific crimes against korea—but completely obliterating the japanese is certainly not what i want, and to commend those kinds of actions just feeds into the same kind of “must destroy as many as possible” rhetoric that any oppressor uses in order to feel justified in gutting a group of people.

okay i think. the presentation/traveling exhibit board concepts im putting together are going to focus on samurai and cowboys since i think both of those are popular historical groups in both the us and japan and now i just. have to read
#this is for my mock jet presentation since i havent heard about interviews yet#but i want to have it prepared anyway to show i am in fact dedicated and have ideas#for my proposals and to be able to walk them through my thought process for this topic#i think it will also be easier to make these interactive for the traveling exhibit part#bc they're just gonna be like the smithsonian traveling exhibits thats just a bunch of giant displays with text and pictures#but they still have a small part that is interactive like the one that i watched over for that one day in feb 2020#had a little mailbox you could put a note in and we could hang them up#that was like. answer one of these questions what would you do if you were mayor of your town#it was an exhibit about rural american history or smth so like#yeah i'll cross that bridge when i get there but im just trying to get ideas#im also gonna just. have a slide dedicated to characters in media in both america and japan#who are samurai and cowboys#just to show that they are popular character tropes and archetypes in media and would have at least#some sort of audience there that would be interested in visiting these exhibits#and the whole point of them being like the smithsonian traveling exhibits is that small towns can get them#and make the information more available bc its free and local and something parents can take their kids to for 30 minutes on a weekend#to learn more about history in their/another country#jdsomavpoisdf anyway#shay speaks
