my only submarine hot take is that i think there's something weirdly fascinating about the way that everyone knows they obviously imploded on that first day but there's been this make believe kind of funeral march towards the inevitable minute zero of the oxygen supply. everyone has been obsessing over these imagined people in this imagined space and it's been a totally ineffective conjuration since nobody really believed these people have been trapped on the ocean floor for the best part of four days and yet so many people have been talking and operating in this pretend realm. the Posts aren't about the implosion the posts are all about this imagined dragged out slow death by asphyxiation and i think it's just interesting how this blatantly unreal narrative is what everyone glommed onto as their mode of expression for this event. i can't really think of any other time people so readily leaned into the pretend version of events like this?

#:)#like obviously the sub imploded on day one and the company spent a day coming up with a disappearance story to report to dodge a lawsuit #and everybody also knows this but there's idk. less willingness in general circles to engage with the hard reality here?#even though 'billionaires being crushed by immense depth pressure' has as much dark comedy value as 'billionaires slowly suffocating'#at least one major factor is media shaping of the event but i also wonder what else led to everyone (for now) being on the same page here?

i cannot emphasize enough how much elon musk is very much not killing twitter on purpose. he is not that smart. you are giving him too much credit. he makes cars that melt. a few weeks ago a billionaire imploded several other billionaires and himself in the ocean because of this same brand of born-rich brainworms. destroying a social media site because of a petty, long held grudge over his paypal co-founders not letting him rename that to "X" is not a stretch.

a few billionaires + a 19 year old + one other person(?) went into a "submarine" that wasn't actually a submarine

it was controlled by a VIDEO GAME CONTROLLER

and they were supposed to explore the titanic

and the submarine thingie didn't actually work and they KNEW THAT before getting on

and it imploded

and they all died

the only person anyone has sympathy for is the 19 year old bc he didn't wanna go on but wanted to make his dad happy
