Peace be upon you, I stumbled upon your blog and was amazed that you wrote a piece on Abu Abdallah Al-Shi'i, I assume that you are well-read on early Islamic history and the history of the Imams peace be upon them, are there any books that you recommend about this subject? I am looking to educate myself and I think you would have some good recommendations.
Wa alaikum salam wa rahmatullah! So the first to come to mind would surely be Kitab al-Irshad by Sheikh al-Mufid. The old book has been translated and the scholar’s work is in depth, including ahadith and history. The first half or so is dedicated to Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib ع, while the second half covers the rest of the Imams ع. The free PDF is also easily accessible. Also in English, Sheikh Mahdi Pishavi’s The Lives of the Twelve: A Look at the Social and Political Lives of the Twelve Infallible Imams (in English, it’s 4 parts) has been translated. It gives a basic context to the caliphs and governments under which the Imams ع lived alongside some famous ahadith surrounding the Imam’s life which the author writes about at that given moment.
There are other works that are more specific. A Restatement of Islam of the History of Islam and Muslims by Sayyid Ali Asghar Razwy is a pretty solid piece for the Prophet ص to the caliphate of Imam Ali ع. Ayatollah Muhammad-Sadiq Najmi has authored From Medina to Karbala: In the Words of Imam Al Husayn; this piece is great as it is a collection of early sources, primarily quotes (and letters), from the journey of Imam Hussain ع and his caravan.
Of course, I would recommend you make use of al-Islam.org, the website full of free (and translated) books which can insha’Allah benefit you in your search for knowledge. May God increase your knowledge, hopefully this has been a help for you.

(Experiences)
"Every soul shall taste of death, and you shall only be paid fully your reward on the resurrection day; then whoever is removed far away from the fire and is made to enter the garden he indeed has attained the object; and the life of this world is nothing but a provision of vanities." S3 v185
This Xmas holidays lets make the most of our time and gain experiences and wisdom iA.
Experiences are what make us.
When we go for a job interview they ask you "what experience do you have".
When we look at an elder, we respect the experiences they have build up over the years.
Experiences are priceless and one we all should strive to develop a strong bank of iA.
Read 6 quotes by Imam Ali a.s on the topic of 'experiences' and importance of it:
1. "The worth of a man's opinion is measured by his experience
2. Experience suffices as a trainer
3. Experiences are a beneficial knowledge
4. Reason is to retain [and learn from] one's experiences
5. Reason is an instinct that is enhanced by knowledge and experience
6. A man who masters his experiences will be safe from harm, while a man who is devoid of experiences will be blind to consequences [of actions]".
But we should absorb as much knowledge from the Quran and Ahlulbayt a.s and and learn from history in the absence of experiences
As Imam Ali a.s said to his sons-
"I started teaching you manners before your heart hardened and your mind became preoccupied in order for you to comprehend with your mind what experienced people have spared you from searching and experiencing. Thus you were spared the hardship of search and the pain of experience."
Ponder on it

Letter 8: The Case for the Prophecy of Women, Part II - The Creation of the Universe According to the Mahasi Imam
Peace be upon those who follow the right path.
This letter will be a little different. I’m readapting a narrative attributed to Imam Ja’afar as I’ve found it in Khalil Andani’s “Metaphysics of Muhammad,” a fantastic article you should check out if you’re interested in Hikma.
Of course, as I have no business hiding, I am interested in how Hikma can make room for queer-positive interpretations of Islam, and I’m a huge fan of Christian literature and consider it holy scripture. So, this is my rendition of Imam Ja’afar’s narration of the creation of the universe and the lights of Muhammad and ‘Ali:
“God existed when nothing else existed. Then It created existence and place and created the Light of Lights from which all lights are illumined. It made this Light of Lights, from which all lights are illumined, flow forth from Its Light. This is the Light from which It created ‘Isa and Maryam.
These two were the primordial Lights since nothing existed before them. These two Lights continued to flow through pure purified loins until they separated as two pure persons in Muhammad and Khadija.
Trillions of years before the creation of the universe, ‘Isa and Maryam were a light before God, a light formed from the principal trunk from which a resplendent ray went forth. God said: ‘Here is a light taken from my own light; its trunk is Prophecy and its branch is the Leadership (Imamate). Prophecy comes from ‘Isa, my Word and Spirit, and the Imamate from Maryam the Pure, who I have uniquely chosen among all people in creation. Without them I would not have created any of my creation.”
In the Hikma worldview, Allah’s first two creations and highest intermediaries are the Pen and the Guarded Tablet: the Universal Intellect and the Universal Soul, or the Word and the Holy Spirit, to put it in Christian terms. In this myth, ‘Isa is taken as a stand in for the Pen, which is generally referred to by Hikma philosophers as the Light of Muhammad: a Prophet is an earthly human mirror of this Light which perfectly reflects Allah’s qualities. They’re still bound by human limitations, but they’re blessed with a unique Intellect that qualifies them to receive wahy, Revelation. This is why they are charged with risaala: delivering the message of tawheed to humanity. I’m gonna be using the different names of 1) Pen/Light of Muhammad/Light of 'Isa/The Word/The Universal Intellect and 2) The Guarded Tablet/Ruh/Light of Maryam/Holy Spirit/The Universal Soul interchangeably: don’t lose track, now. Cause here’s where I’m gonna get creative.
As for Prophet Maryam, in this myth, she symbolizes the Guarded Tablet, which is mapped onto the idea of the Light of the Imamate among Shi’i Hikma thinkers. The Guarded Tablet, the Holy Spirit (Ruh), the Universal Soul, the Light of Maryam embodies perfect imperfection. As the second creation, which eternally proceeds from the created Word of Allah, the Guarded Tablet holds the same perfect potential as the Word, but has an added limitation: existence in time. Whereas the Word, like Allah, is naturally in its most perfect and ideal state, the Light of Maryam, while perfectly aware of the actions it must take to reach its potential, requires time to do so. In the Hikma worldview, everything that exists is a microcosm of this Light of Maryam: filled with perfect potential, bound by time. The Light of Maryam has perfect access to the Light of Muhammad and thus perfect knowledge of Allah’s tawheed, and, as the Holy Spirit, it grants all of creation this access to Allah through the intermediary of the Light of Muhammad, the Light of ‘Isa, the Word. The human Prophet Maryam, then, is the perfect human reflection of the Holy Spirit: of course, she's still bound by human limitations and therefore not God, before people start throwing Recitation quotes at me about not worshipping 'Isa and Maryam (I don't). This is also, I must stress, not incarnation: 'Isa and Maryam are manifestations, mazhars, of Allah's eternal Pen/The Light of Muhammad and the Guarded Tablet/The Holy Spirit. They manifest the qualities of these two exalted Spiritual beings in so much as a human can: hence why Prophet Jesus Christ is known as the Word of Allah and the Spirit of Allah and no other prophet. But we can dive deeper into these terms in another letter.
Prophet Adam is the first bearer of the Light of ‘Isa: God’s first nabi. Prophet Hawwa is the first bearer of the Light of Maryam: God’s first imam. Each bear perfect fitra: hence, their status as Prophets, and their qualification to be role models for all of mankind. Both passed the Prophecy, the Light of ‘Isa, and the Leadership, the Light of Maryam, onto whoever their perfect intellects deemed worthy successors, and whoever they trained by their hand to be ready to accept the responsibility of Prophethood.
Could it be that, after Khadija’s generally unnarrated death, she passed the Light of Leadership to her love, the Prophet Muhammad? Did she not guide him and teach him, stand by him, recognize his Prophecy, hold a knowledge of Christian literature and tawheed no one else had? Was she not the first to accept Muhammad’s Prophecy? Did she not guide him in Mecca? Did he not become a Leader, an Imam, of the community of Medina after her death? While his death concluded the Prophethood, and left the world with no bearers of the Light of ‘Isa, did he not pass on the Light of Leadership to Imam ‘Ali? Does the Light of Maryam, the Pure Slave of God, chosen among all women of her species, not still shine in the Imam of the Time, Imam Muhammad al-Mahdi? Does he not continue to guide us all from his occultation via the power of the pure Holy Spirit?
You may very well just say: no. Don’t take anything I say on faith, do what your Intellect tells you. That’s what the Prophet would tell you to do. But I wanted to demonstrate how, in a Shi’i Hikma worldview, Prophetesses, who are basically unacknowledged in modern Islam, can have a unique role as leaders, mentors, teachers, as well as receivers of revelation, just like their male counterparts. That said, there are holes here: typically, there is only one Imam at a time, and the Imam is historically always a dude. I guess you could think of the preexistent lights as Risaala and Nubuwwa rather than Prophecy and Imamate, but getting into these weeds is not really the point. Raising the questions is.
I urge you to keep an open mind.

🍃🌹🍃 Lady Fatima al-Zahra’s (as) 🍃
🌹 Knowledge 🌹
🍃 Fatima al-Zahra (sa) acquired her divine knowledge from the clear spring of Prophethood and received the excellence of truth from the house of revelation. So her attentive heart was embellished with wisdom and her brilliant reason together with her brightness realized to the fullest extent the real meaning of every fact.
Yet, despite the fact that Fatima (sa) heard an abundant volume of narrations from her father what has been reported on her authority is limited to certain issues. The reason for this will be explained later.
Among the narrations reported on Fatima's (sa) account are:
🌹 1. Bihar, Chapter ~ Knowledge.
Imam Askari (as) said: "A woman came to Fatima al~Zahra (sa) and said:
“I have a weak mother who has become confused about a matter related to her prayer; she sent me to inquire from you about it.”
Fatima Zahra (sa) answered her; the woman repeatedly came with questions for Fatima, and she (sa) kindly answered her every time. One day the lady again approached Fatima (sa) with another question from her mother and said to Fatima:
“I shall not inconvenience you (any more), daughter of Allah's Messenger.”
Fatima (sa) replied:
“Ask me regarding anything, which comes to your mind. Because if a man had been hired to transport a heavy load to the top of a mountain for a reward of one thousand dinars, do you think it would bother him?”
The woman said: `No'
Fatima continued:
“My reward for (answering) every inquiry is more than that which fills (the space) between the ground and the Throne with pearls; thus, I should be more apt to answer your questions. Surely I heard my father say:
When the scholars of our Shiite (followers) are gathered (on the Day of Resurrection), they will be bestowed with garments of honor equal in quantity to their knowledge and struggle to guide Allah's worshippers, up to the point that anyone of them will be gifted with one million garments of light.' Then the caller of our Exalted and Glorified Lord will say:
`O you guardians of the orphans of Muhammad. (You) who inspire them when they are separated from their fathers, who are their Imams; these are your pupils and the orphans whom you guarded and inspired, therefore bestow them with garments of knowledge in life. Thus, they will bestow each orphan with that which corresponds to the amount of knowledge he received from them (the scholars); up to the point that some orphans are bestowed with one million garments. Like-so, the orphans bestow those who learnt from them.' Then Allah, the Exalted said:
"Repeat upon these scholars, the guardians of the orphans, the bestowment and double and complete it for them and for those who follow them"
Fatima (sa) then added:
“Worshipper of Allah, surely a thread of those garments is better than that on which the sun rises.”
🌹 2. Bihar (v. 10)
Yazid Ibn Abdulmalik (Nawfali) quoted his father, who quoted his grandfather as saying:
"Once, I entered the house of Fatima (sa) who was the first to greet me; she then said:
“What brings you here?”
I said: "I have come in search of blessing."
Fatima (sa) then said:
“My father (who was present) said: 'He who greets him or me for three consecutive days, will be granted Paradise by Allah.”
I said: “While you are living?”
She answered: “yes, and after we are dead.”
🌹 3. Kashf al Ghumma:
Imam Ali (as) quoted Fatima (sa) as saying:
"The Messenger of Allah (S) said: 'Fatima, he who praises you, will be forgiven by Allah; Who will make him my companion where ever in Paradise I may be."
🌹 4. Da'awat Ar-Rawandi:
Swaid Ibn Ghafla said:
"Once, Ali (as) was inflicted with hardship; so Fatima (sa)knocked on the Messenger of Allah's door, who said:
“I hear the movement of my beloved one near the door, Umme Ayman get up and see!”
Umme Ayman opened the door and Fatima (sa) entered the house.
The Prophet then said:
“You have come to us at a time that you have not previously come!”
Fatima said:
“Messenger of Allah, what is the angels food near our Lord?”
The Messenger of Allah said:
“By Him Who holds my soul in His hand, fire has not been lit (in our house) for a whole month; yet, I will teach you five statements which Gabriel taught me.”
She (sa) said:
“Messenger of Allah, what are these five statements?”
The Prophet (S) said:
“O Lord of the First and Last;
O You Possessor of Might, and Strength;
O You Who is Merciful with the poor;
O You most Beneficent, most Merciful.”
(Note: It appears as if the fifth statement has been mistakenly erased.)
Thereafter Fatima (sa) returned and Ali (as) saw her and exclaimed:
"May my father and mother be your sacrifice, Fatima; what have you to tell me?"
She said:
“I went seeking worldly things, but have returned (with the goodness of) the hereafter."
Ali (as) then said:
“Expect goodness, expect goodness!"
🌹 5. Bihar (v. 10): It is reported in Al-Kafi that Imam al-Sadiq (as) said:
“Once, Fatima approached Allah's Messenger with a problem. The Prophet listened to her problem and gave her a wrapped piece of material and said: `Learn that which is written in it.' (When she opened it) she found written in it:
"He who believes in Allah and the Last Day, shall not harm his neighbor.
He who believes in Allah and the Last Day, shall honor his guest.
He who believes in Allah and the Last Day shall say that which is useful or keep silent.”

Jumu'ah Khuthbah: 16 June 2023
This is how we were made to plunge in our deep ocean of heartfelt knowledge, only in the past week - Ya Shakur (Divine gratitude!)
#1. After listening to Shaykh Nishaat elaborate on an exegesis of a verse of the Qur'an; where Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth, and how it relates to our essence. I arrived at the very same place as Raeesa who was asked for opinion; sheer gratitude for our practice of daily Zikr, and I would add Wird and our deeply resonant Positivity Prayers. All of them combined contribute to channeling Allah's light / nur from our crown into our hearts and radiating Allah consciousness in our life's moments. So much so, we can better detect when we are enacting nafs vs our hearts.
Tumblr media
After all, as Shaykh Nishaat clarified it is with our freewill that we shape our realities by using thoughts, intentions and actions. Our practice of our daily assignment makes it congruent with the flow of Allah's light in every moment. We are choosing to be with Allah and His light and our personalities are being shaped by this consciousness. Allah is thus not a distant entity, He is having a relationship with us right now!
#2. On reflection upon the notion of tefekkur / tafakkur (deep contemplation) that we performed on the Qur'anic verse quoted by Shaykh Nishaat above; also beautifully described here, as the helix of light. I came by Sufi "poetry" to explain what it actually means:
Deep contemplation means a person’s forcing oneself to think about one’s own inner world, constantly scrutinizing things that exist and take place, and opening to more immense and deep thoughts by taking all of these into consideration time and time again. The original Arabic word tafakkur is inflected in the form of tafaul, which denotes burdening oneself. That is a person’s making serious effort to realize something and forcing oneself to achieve something, and giving the willpower its due in this respect. For this reason, we can say that with respect to its word formation, the word tafakkur expresses an act of thinking that is systematic, deep, and constant, rather than thinking in a simpler sense.
#3. Medet which is the practice at the onset of a Sohbet (spiritual address which flows from the spiritual mentor's heart) drawing on the spiritual inspiration of our specific Sufi order by remembrance of their names, crowned by Allah Himself and followed by our Prophet Muhammad SAW, the companions of Rasulullah SAW, Imam Ali, his sons Imam Hassan and Imam Hussain - followed by our specific Tariqa. Subhana'Allah, that we reflect how all inclusive we are, when we include Imam Ali RA and his blessed sons that may be disregarded as symbols of Shia'ism.
However, it didn't end there; in the medet of this particular Saturday Sohbet, it included the Angels as the transmitters of Allah's word, and the wives of the Prophets, who are undeniably our mothers. It left me in awe and gratitude of the current leader of our Tariqa, Shaykh Taner Vargonen Ansari! Ya Shakur that he once proclaimed that our Tariqa to be a champion of the wives of the Prophets and their children (Allah's blessings be upon all of them!). This being that much more meaningful when our Tariqa is next to be steered by the wife of Shaykh Taner, who we refer to simply as Anne (our spiritual mother).
#4. Shaykh Taner continued to inspire when he relayed that there is Allah as the Creator and us as the created. Allah wanted to pour Himself into a being that has the ability to know Him which Is us, because our brain is balanced. We have the ability to think, if we make it free to come to the right conclusion. But Shaytaan wants to derail this thinking properly, at our every turn.
However, Allah gave us a heart which He occupies as dzat (essence) and everything else is from His 99 attributes. His dzat is in our heart. Our heart is the Auditor as the checkpoint of whether something is right or not. Shaytaan occupies our brains and emotions and makes us follow the opposite of what Allah says. This is our makeup as body, soul and the connection between our heart and our brain which has to be free of pollution and attachments. We start these attachments from birth!
#5. Anne and Shaylh Taner profoundly reflected that we learn the universe around and within us. We stay connected to and surrender to Allah's love! We choose to pay attention to our connection to Allah in the moment with love, and we strengthen what we pay attention to, Insha'Allah...
This ends our deep swim in the ocean of Sufism, that defines our Islam as surrender and peace. This is ahead of Sunday's Father's Day where we must pay gratitude to Allah for gifting us with your Abbu:
i. With his leadership through his daily involvement in our lives:
Ya Shakur × infinity
ii. His affection which acts as non-verbal reassurance that is labelled by Ammu as his "Chi / Qi" hands, inherited by our Paupat and learned by Ammu and Pauppy!:
Ya Shakur × infinity
iii. Financial security that Allah blesses us with through him, where we have been equally blessed to find means to stay connected to him, when he's away from us! Because of his work for us, Ammu can dedicate herself as Haqqiqa Apa, Haqqiqa TV remote and your friend who's your mum 🥹
Ya Shakur × infinity

When the time for death arrives, your eyes wake up from the world that you have left behind, you witness the real truth. What you have done, what you have left incomplete, why you were sent here on Earth, how much time you had, how many signs came your way, what you were really supposed to do. Everything comes together like a jigsaw and makes sense and there’s not a single soul who does not reject. Each one then believes in God.
“You will come to know the reality of death, but in such a way that you will be unable to tell anyone about it.”
