this. THIS is the difference between serie and frieren. "magic is only a tool for killing." as serie's point of view because she is someone who craves battle. thats it. magic is for killing. magic beyond that is pretty worthless.
but for frieren, she collected the silliest spells, the most specific nearly useless spells as a hobby and because himmel loved her flower bed spell. he liked it. he loved her magic and thought it was beautiful when they met back then when he was lost. she saw him smile. and seeing him smile, in turn, got her to go on an adventure to collect grimoires and fight the demon king alongside her friends. and of course, of course magic is the world of visualization you know? this is why the world can be turned upside down, why heaven and earth could split, why even the most powerful demons and mages can be defeated in the end. because of the simple fact that frieren loved himmel, loved magic enough to collect any kind of it no matter what it was, her personality as someone who liked seeing a smile on a friend's face, her mundane spells that seem to be completely 'useless' in a fight can easily be transformed into something magnificent and powerful simply because her visualization and love allows her to transcend the impossible.

IM SORRY BUT I CANNOT BE STOPPED OR SILENCED I HAVE A LOT OF THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS AND NOWHERE TO PUT THEM BUT HERE. Don’t come for me.
Anyway.
What’s fucking amazing is how Gunn set up Rocket’s inventions to ALWAYS be one of the primary things that save the day, which is so meaningful given his VERY FIRST invention he made all on his own with no input from anyone else got his friends killed in front of him. He’s viewed that key as an albatross around his neck for a decade or so.
But in GotG the Hadron Enforcer is what gets the stone out of Ronan’s hammer so Peter can grab it.
In Vol 2 the aerorigs are a key component to the Guardians’ kit but it’s the bomb he builds with the Sovereign’s batteries that kills Ego.
It’s a little more understated in Vol 3, but Nebula makes a POINT to say Rocket built her new arm which was crucial in multiple conflicts (overriding the ship, stabbing Adam to get him to stop wrecking shop, etc.) And the thing that saves Rocket’s life when the High Evolutionary is rag-dolling him? Those gravity boots he was playing with in the opening scene.
Of course the story was always about Rocket. He’s the one who gives everyone the tools they need to win. He failed once to save his friends with an invention and that’s NEVER going to happen again.

kind of obsessed with the idea of gortash and durge never being official but gortash still trying to stealthily do things that legitimize the relationship. giving them clothes and jewelry because they should look nice if they're going to be seen with him, giving them a room in his house because they stay late anyway and they need somewhere to keep their new things, commissioning a portrait under the guise of celebrating the impending inauguration, inviting them to events as a part of his retinue. anything that pulls them closer and keeps them there, anything that can make him feel like they belong to him.
bonus points if durge knows exactly what he's doing but doesn't complain because they like it, too.

i saw someone say something like "maybe in another universe they protected each other" about the roomies and i dont think that could be more wrong. even if they weren't successful, they did everything they could.
etho used both of his lives to help his team by running away. he is a runner and by god he will do what he knows how to in service of those who cared.
cleo isnt as obvious. she's used to being betrayed at this point, so her support for her team is subtle but there in her actions. early season she funnels hearts to her teammates. they stick together, and after etho dies she's trying again and again to make sure her remaining teammate doesnt die trying to defend her.
grian, in his own words, goes anyway the wind blows. not this time. this time, his final life is spent kicking and screaming, fighting like a cornered dog to survive. to stall. if cleo can have one more breath, one minute closer to living, anything, he would surrender his hearts as a human shield.
they were all loyal until their deaths, contrary to past seasons. they learned how to protect for their team. it didn't work, but god did they try.
