gothic horror writers were soooo right. sometimes a family IS like a decaying house with rotting floorboards and cracked windows and uneven stairs. & no one really knows how to fix it or has the skills so it gets passed along from family to family with rot from the bottom up. & sometimes you visit it and even if you get the nicest room with a rug that covers the stains, there's still smell & a small creak as you walk and someone knocking on your door going 'isn't it great?' & you can nod & say yes & be polite and they keep knocking and they keep asking and you keep going 'yes it's lovely. I really love it here' as they go 'isn't it wonderful, I did it all just for you' and you can't say 'I don't want it. I didn't ask you for it', so you get it anyway and you just have to live as a visitor in someone else's fucked up house which gives you splinters, you know?
