I've gone on about how tiny fairywasps (aka fairyflies) are before, but I just found out that there are aquatic fairywasps (Caraphractus cinctus) who remain submerged for days.
... they are so tiny they must find a plant stem to exit water: surface tension being a force they cannot overcome!
The surface of a puddle is an impenetrable boundary between worlds. Plant stems are portals.
Somehow their tiny little minds can contain all the responses needed to navigate these challenges.
