To be honest, i dunno where to start my rant.

I'm totally overthinking once again and this time, this involves the complicated love story of the famous historical figures Pocahontas and the English settler John Smith. So here, I'm trying to write all of my thoughts about it so my mind can finally be at peace.

I've been spending my time off binge watching Disney and other underrated fantasy-fiction animated movies. Then ran into Pocahontas on the list. For a moment there, i hesitated watching it for the second time in my life. I like Pocahontas as a character but her story is the least of my favorite amongst all Disney princesses. I've grown having lesser interest on her story that I even confuse the ending of it with that of the ending of Disney's Tarzan oftentimes.

As time went by, I still know the songs since I always listen to the soundtracks on my playlist but I became unfamiliar with the scenes itself because 1.) I dont really remember when was the first and last time I saw the movie and 2.) I think i remember having watched Pocahontas in an installment basis -which really explains all the confusion of scenes.

So part 1 of the story revolves around a Native American princess named Pocahontas and her bravery during John Smith's supposed execution when she compulsively stepped in before her father's axe (or whatever it's called) could even touch the very neck of Smith -that of which could've sent him to his tragic demise. It was very noble and courageous of her to have offered her life in order to save John's. They were romantic. Which is why I never understood that in the second movie, she and Smith parted ways. She met John Rolfe, started fell in love with him and eventually left John Smith out of the scene.

As a child, I never had the slightest idea that the John in part 2 was already a different John that she originally fell in love with. You see, I wanna be happy that she got a new found love after all the depressing moments when she found out about Smith's death but i was waiting that somehow, somewhere along the way, it will reveal that John Smith is not dead and that in fact he and John Rolfe are actually the same person. Until such time, I think I remember not finishing part 2, because the story was no longer what I expected it to be. And thinking about the realization itself, it's hard to accept knowing for a fact that it's Disney, it's supposed be a happy ending, a happily ever after with someone you love. Well for Pocahontas, it is. But not with John Smith. He's no longer the man she loves, instead he became an ex, after all that's been done, after everything they've been through.

And this is the very reason why I never watched it ever again. I'm so disappointed that what I watched in the second movie was already a 360 degree twist from the first. Like seriously, all that happend in the first movie -the romance, the sacrifices went all to nothing because it wasn't Smith that she ended up with. It's like wow, my life was a lie.

I only learned quite recently that Pocahontas is in fact based on a true story after spending hours in social media and regularly checking out Disney related pages. I came across this article about the real Pocahontas and did a little research about the actual events after knowing that it was indeed based on true to life events. And up to now, it breaks my heart every time i think about it. What's more frustrating is that, what does it have to do with me? I mean, it's just a movie and should not really be bothering me but I just can't move on.

Nonetheless, it's based on a true story so people with sentiments like mine cant really do anything to change that fact cause Disney just did what they're supposed to. It's kinda depressing though. "If I Knew You" is one of my favorite Disney OSTs but I'll never be able to appreciate this song the same way I did ever again.

I still ship John Smith and Pocahontas..so i may not rewatch Pocahontas II: Journey To The New World for now. Maybe one day I'll do, when I'm ready, when I can finally learn to accept that reality can never and will never be like fairytales. No one would even understand anyway, so I guess I'll just have to leave everything in words.
