Keeping on is all we can do but I'm glad to hear you've been trying to enjoy yourself and live in the moment. I am using this pride month to be a lil extra ✨️fruity✨️. And yesssssss, Anthony looks so good, I wanna bite that man so much 😭
I know how it feels when you wanna write but can't really get anything out so anything you come up with is a victory in my eyes and one step closer to getting the mcalpine sessions ❤️ and honestly??? I would be a terrible beta, I need someone to beta my fics too 😮‍💨 ALSO PLEEEEEASE GIVE ME ALL THE FLUFF!!!!!! I love the will they, won't they especially when it comes to Sammy but I absolutely melt when it's just all loving and soft and taking care of each other.
And oh boy, the drama. 💀 It was nothing to do with you specifically, just the ship. And it was indeed stucky. A lot of the shippers have this problem with having Sam there solely to be a cheerleader or therapist to steve and/or bucky. It got worse after Endgame because now they treat him as a replacement or second choice for bucky. I had to distance myself from the ship because I'm petty and like to fight 😩 But I love you and your blog and know you are a big stucky shipper and I just didn't wanna project my feelings of the ship/horrible shippers onto you. 🥲 You don't have to do anything extra because I don't actually mind stucky....as long as Sam is treated with the same respect and you obviously do respect him. 😊
But anyways, I'm also doing well! Was able to see some of my family I haven't seen since covid hit and am close to finishing one of my fics as well 👀 I might just have to come off anon and give you a sneak peek 😉 I love our little debriefing sessions so you will be hearing from me very soon, babe!
With love,
Your friendly neighborhood McAlpine Sessions Anon 💜
YESS fruity pride we love to see it, i hope yours was happy and safe til the end!! fully support ur biting anthony efforts hahaha and i’m glad u got to see some family!! i used mine to do a bunch of things on my to do list, mostly involving organizing my stuff before i move, cleaning house, training dog, and oral surgery which wasn’t fun lol and sadly my attempts to be really gay w friends were thwarted by fate… sigh
i did however write a bit more of sessions as well as revise some other projects so not too shabby! and luckily for you it’s literally all fluff because when left to my own devices i am the WORST at writing anything else until i absolutely have to. i want to write in some more sambucky specifically because as it is i feel like most of the doc is ot3 or samsteve bc the first half bucky is literally unconscious 😭 and it’s about resolving conflicts between steve and sam. they definitely have a will they won’t they until it’s very very clear they will and then they just can’t fucking stop and the rest of the entire thing is just them all over one or the other lord help me HAHAHAHA
i also started an extremely arduous process of transferring posts from another site to here and continuing pull over EVERY post from my old blog so i can just delete it which is fun because i get to get rlly into cap brainrot but also A Task to be sure lol. i meant to start watching secret invasion too but i literally cant with the hour long run time mcu is asking a hell of a lot of focus for me from my extremely overstimulating home with that like if i’m expected to watch a feature film u better put me in a damn dark little box of a theater in silence but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ eventually ill get to it ig
i’m so happy for you getting to the end of ur fic!! it’s such a satisfying feeling so congratulations and you got this!! especially if ur looking for a beta, id be soooo down for a lil sneaky peak. the professional editor in me never sleeps so i loooove giving feedback on work :) however ur comfortable w it but i gotchu bestie!!!!! as for the drama, OKAY THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!! for reference #stevebucky is my tag for the ship (not stucky which i used to use but now find ugly in comparison lol) if you ever need to mute it. i definitely get what ur saying and the frustration. the way some fans can write sam, especially in older fic, is for sure a problem and it can be hard, speaking from experience, to break the cycle. however i will say now that i write him more and fingers crossed, better, its real fun how his dynamic with steve can be completely different from his with bucky's and stevebucky's w each other!!! like its more fun to write them not the same and have them all and let sam be his own character! sam doesn’t have to add to their already extremely enmeshed (affectionate) relationship by being exactly the same type of caregiver yk? im guilty of resorting to therapist friend in the past but as someone with real experience in psychology now both as someone who has been to therapy since and who was in the process of becoming a therapist it’s just not even accurate to write him that way??? you can be supportive of your friends but first thing you do if they seriously need help is find them someone unbiased and uninvolved on a personal level lol i know raymer fucking sucked but there are other options if one wants a therapist plot who arent steves best friend!! i see a lot of writers relegating sam to steve’s replacement for bucky too, esp in older works w past samsteve post catws, and yet even as his EX sam is still just calmly playing steves wingman and doing his emotional labor and not at all bitter or hurt to be dropped immediately?? lol okay.... sure jan... and now ive seen some do the same thing where sam is just buckys replacement for endgame steve and its like noooo whyyyyyyy. so i totally see the frustration, but i do hope ur able to find better fanworks that align more w ur desired depictions!!! bc theres some fantastic stuff coming out of the cap fandom :)))
i’m glad both that i’ve improved my skills in writing him and his dynamics with both other caps, whether that’s platonic or romantic, and that mcu has given us more insight into his character than before which for me makes writing him easier too bc there’s just more of a basis to work with. no matter how a fan is including his character in a work, regardless of the main ship, he deserves to be presented respectfully and not as a prop. i really really hope i can do him justice both in sessions as part of the ship and in my other wip, dublin au, where hes one of the main side characters because he’s been one of my favorite characters since catws premiered and this polycule has become so important to me. plus i definitely want to prove myself a bit since i’m not happy with how i’ve written him in some of my other works. wooooow that was probably way more of an essay than u needed sooooo maybe ill end here w my little obligatory snippet, as a treat <3:
Steve figures he might as well start in on some real breakfast, because with the way Buck was looking up at Sam from beneath the weight of his arms, they’re gonna end up with Falcon Flakes and milk all over the damn floor.
Too bad he forgot he can’t cook for shit. Looking extremely pleased with himself, Bucky wanders in and sits down at their dinette sans shirt to chomp down an extremely burnt stack of waffles.
“Good char on these, Stevie.” He lies like the bastard he is, while pulling a grimace in what he thinks is only Wilson’s eye line.
as always, its been a pleasure and i cant wait for our next chat! loveeee

ME TOO CLARI ME TOO my fav thing to do is making someone watch a film that i’ve enjoyed nd observe their reaction all the time hehehe i watch their reactions more than the actual movie pffft
moving onto ur fav film list, your fav film list made me SO happy!! i was so excited to see that most of them were films i’ve watched&wholeheartedly enjoyed ( ^ω^ ) FINALLY SOMEONE APPRECIATING THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS YES!! whenever i mention anderson everyone talks ab the grand budapest hotel so im so happy to see u enjoyed the royal tenenbaums 🥺 also omg u watched burning?!? isn’t it such an amazing film <3 also reservoir dogs and little women and spirited away and ahh i could go on and on forever ab ur list but this ask would be a whole essay so i’ll force myself to hold in cri cri
horror movies are so fascinating aren’t they!!! i love em sm too <3 ari aster n jordan peele r my fav favs when it comes to horror. +the shining and scream! i enjoyed the conjuring series as well :) wait can i drop u a rec, since u love horror i totally recommend a tale of two sisters by kim. one of my all time favs&i have a strong feeling u would love it too! that film has such beautiful cinematography as well (✿╹◡╹)
ahhh my fav films r like, all over the place cuz i don’t have a strong preference/taste, but some of my fav films (that aren’t mentioned above/in ur list) include jojo rabbit-waititi, the florida project-baker, dazed and confused-linklater, moonlight-jenkins, girl interrupted-mangold, your name-makoto, mid90s-hill, lady bird-gerwig, uncut gems-safdie and etc etc so many more but i feel like im oversharing hehehe i also love action movies too but that’s a whole different discussion ;)
honestly u can recommend me anything u want cuz my taste is all over the place like i said, but to narrow it down, hmmm 🤔 is there a movie that u think is a must-watch? or genre-wise, maybe horror/action/drama/coming of age!! love u so so much clari<33 how is tumblr allowing me to write this much huh -🐰
ehehehe okay i’m gonna answer under the cut because i knoooow i’m gonna ramble
RIGHT and like idek why i guess i just love sharing the things i love with the people i care about and observing how they feel about it???
AHAHAHA YESSSSS oh my gosh i love the royal tenenbaums so much!! like my favourite wes film is either fantastic mr fox or rushmore, but yes!! grand budapest is rly pretty tho and i think that’s why so many people gravitate towards it yk? I DID WATCH BURNING actually i was super lucky and got to watch it at TIFF before it ‘officially’ premiered + there was a lil q&a with the cast and director (w a translator ehehe) but it absolutely blew me away. i’m just in love with korean cinema as a whole. i have yet to watch a korean film that i don’t like!!
little women is just !!!!!!! i love greta so much and i can’t wait to see what else she creates; i just feel like greta is a woman director creating films FOR WOMEN. does that make sense??? well-known women directors are already so sparse, but there are some (ie bigelow) who create uhhhhhh films that cater more towards men and the masses??? and that’s not to say that bigelow isn’t a fantastic director, because she IS, but i really like sofia coppola and greta gerwig because their films are so feminine and focused on feminine issues and relationships that we really don’t see on widespread/popular screens (like at first run theatres ie multiplexes).
RESERVOIR DOGS AAAAAAAH listen listen i have A Thing for mr. blonde ehehehe yeah i really love quentin, as i mentioned. whenever someone says pulp fiction is his best film i really have to refrain from rolling my eyes, and i know that makes me sound like suuuuch a snob but like,,,,,,,,,, pulp fiction is his most popular film, not his best (in MY opinion!! since art is all personal opinion yk etc etc). and like i could go on forever about him, i love every single one of his films, i think he’s such a fantastic writer and just aaaaah <333333 love quentin’s work so so so much.
ARI ASTER AND JORDAN PEELE ARE FANTASTIC. i wrote an essay on get out and it was literally one of my favourite essays to write!! i’m really really really excited to see what both of them continue to create!! OOOOH I LOOKED IT UP AND YEAH IT LOOKS RIGHT UP MY ALLEY i will add it to the list n get back to you!!!
aaaaah ur taste!!! dw clearly my taste is all over the place too ahahaha i just love cinema so much, i’m always eager to watch new films and literally always feel overwhelmed with just how many i want to watch ehehehe. OH MY GOD YOUR NAME MADE ME SOB LIKE A BABY such a beautiful film!!!!!! loved it so so so much. eeeee i actually hate action movies ahahahaha 🙈🙈🙈
hmmm i’m gonna try n go with ‘must watch’ films just because i feel like i’ve already mentioned so many in most of those genres n you’ve already seen most of them, so!!
ladri di biciclette by de sica
masculin, feminin and pierrot le fou by godard
news from home by akerman (if you can find it, it can be a lil difficult to track down but if ur school has a decent film library/collection they should have it!!)
rome, open city by rossellini
in the mood for love by wong kar-wai
the 400 blows by truffaut
hotel by the river by hong sangsoo (i literally love this film so fucking much my gosh like another one we saw at TIFF one year and just !!!!!!!)
full metal jacket by kubrick
apocalypse now by coppola
bride of frankenstein by whale
nosferatu by murnau (honestly anything german expressionism is worth watching esp the cabinet of dr caligari and metropolis, too,, i just really love german expressionism lmaoooo)
peeping tom by powell
king kong (1933) by cooper + schoedsack
aaaah like tbh i’d be surprised if you didn’t know/watch these, too!! like, i feel like they’re fairly common in film programs but!!! recommending films to another film student is hard cause i’m sitting here like ‘well, they most likely know all of the american/hollywood ‘must watch’ films’, but then i’m all ‘but if they’re a film student, there’s a good chance they’ve watched these, too’ so aaaah idk i hope some of these are new to you, at least!!! i kinda just thought about my favourite cinema movements and picked a film or two from each ahahahaha
SORRY I WROTE U A MINI ESSAY LMAO JUST RAAAAMBLING but !!! i can’t wait to hear more about ur cinema adventures!!! lmk if you’ve seen any on the rec list omg omg and once again sorry it took me so long to finish answering this :((

What would you personally recommend to someone who wanted to get into classic books/movies?
Hello, Anon!
Honestly, it really depends on your personal taste — whether you prefer romance, drama, comedy, or just watching/reading something beautiful, etc.! So, whatever you like most, try to seek that in the films and books, and that will get you into it!
The list is long, so, this is your warning!
Some films I'd recommend (English language):
A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) - This was the film that reeeeeaaaaally got me into classic film, and I've never looked back since! A personal favourite of mine, but be warned it is quite dark, so, if that's not your cup of tea, brace yourself if you still intend to watch it. Not as dark as the original play due to the censors, of course.
Waterloo Bridge (1940) - If you like tragic romance and pretty visual aesthetics and ballet, this is the film for you! I've actually been only able to watch it fully once because it is so moving.
Casablanca (1942) - If you're not so fond of tragic endings, but love forbidden romances when everything seems to be falling apart and N*zis being critiqued during the occupation, then this is perhaps better fitting for you!
Queen Christina (1933) - Greta Garbo kisses Elizabeth Young on the mouth. Fucking iconic. Literally. Queer classic film enthusiasts go ape-shit for this film, as we should. The main relationship focused on is heterosexual and maintains a streak of the tragic, but it is certainly a must to watch for anyone curious about getting into classic film! Random nugget of information: censorship in the Irish Free State was so ridiculous that much of this film was cut, leaving only fragments of scenes to be threaded together haphazardly, meaning most Irish cinema-goers left very confused after viewing it. The full film was not seen there until after 1967, when film certification was re-standardised.
Ninotchka (1939) - This is a sweet comedy, mainly set in Paris, and it also has Greta Garbo starring in it. One of my comfort films that is actually not ridiculously dark bahaha. Why are you still reading this list? Go watch it!
If you desire a classic in colour and wish to be extremely brave, the Gone with the Wind (1939) is something I'd recommend. However, there's a lot of problematic shit going on in that, and the film in that regard reeeeaally hasn't aged well. Just keep in mind it's a period drama which was a product of its time, which leaves a lot to be desired in a modern moral and ethical perspective. Not sure if I'd recommend it as an introductory film, but fortune favours the bold and whatnot, so I thought to mention it. It is an absolute epic feat from a technical point of view.
If you're willing to watch non-Anglophone classic films (I can make a separate list if you so wish), I'll put a couple here:
La Belle et la bête (1946) - French. This is one of the most visually striking films I've seen in black and white. Simply breathtaking! It truly is like watching a fairytale you would have imagined in a dream (and it should, given it's Beauty and the Beast). An absolute must.
Nosferatu (1922) - German, but English intertitles available. Silent film. The OG vampire movie in German cinema!
[I've way more, but, I'm tryna move onto the books section now lol. Lmk if you'd like a longer list and I'll write one up for you <3]
Books:
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier (one of my all time favourite novels!! Absolutely fantastic — gorgeous use of aesthetic language, great, lingering pacing to add to the ominous atmosphere of the novel, just all-round a must-read!)
Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu - Lesbian vampires. Short 'n snappy but always fascinating! Complexities and ambiguities about what happen in the end are even more fascinating if you get the version which has the prologue (some people skip prologues but defo read this book's one, it's important. Read it again when you've finished the book and you'll see what I mean.).
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald - I've heard it can be a boring read if you don't read it critically (I had to study it in school lol so I have never known any other way of reading it), so just take note of Nick's social critique and you should be g.
The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde - Witty and fun! Obviuosly, better to watch it onstage, but if you feel like reading it, go for it!
King Lear by William Shakespeare - Drama. Tragedy. Action packed, but if you're anything like me, you'll adore it. Edmund is also an ass but v fuckable. As is Goneril and I won't take it back.
Animal Farm by George Orwell - Short but whew it sure does pack a punch.
The Lady of the Camellias by Alexandre Dumas, fils. - You can read either the original novel or the stage adaptation, if you so wish! I'm currently reading the novel in French. Haven't finished it, but if you love tragic plots, you'll appreciate the premise. La Traviata is the opera adaptation.
I'll end this here, but I hope you find some things which tickle your fancy on these lists! Just hmu if you ever want more recs! Wishing you much luck in venturing into these new waters, darling! <3
Happy viewing/reading! ^.^
