turns out whatever instinct in me makes me want to make tma aus is unstoppable and all consuming. so here's qsmp tma au focused on the brazillians:
cellbit- he HAS to be the archivist ok this man is so eye aligned it's not even funny. HOWEVER because qcellbit and fcell are the same person, Events happened to him before he became the Archivist, ala from the archives grian. local paranormal enthusiast finds dead half eaten bodies, gets arrested for it (he SWEARS he didn't eat those people), goes to prison for 10 years, goes nuts (becomes F!Cell), kills himself in the island, wakes up in his room and Felps tells him "bro you disappeared for 10 days are you ok" and he's just like. What.
Worth mentioning that he fucking speedruns the archives. also known as the qsmp. Cucurucho, who is kind of like elias but a bit less (I inagine the Host would be elias, wjoever they are), thinks "wooo new archivist I wonder how long it'll take them to find out abt the horrors" and then cellbit shows up 3 days later running on 2 hours of sleep and 20 mugs of coffee with a consipracy board connecting a bunch of statements and theorizing about entities
ALSO the web is around him like all the time. if you pay attention there's at least 2 spiders near him at all times, usually hidden because he squishes them when he sees them. he's tangled in the web of lies that is the plot I'm making for this au and his ass is NOT beating it
Felps- Stranger type of guy who doesn't even know and takes like. a year to realise something's up with him. don't worry abt it ok I don't know why he's stranger-y to me either. it's the vibes just trust me
Mike- ok so. I am Very unsure for pac and mike, PLUS I've not seen herobrine a lenda, which means I don't know all their backstory, BUT I'm thinking Lonely for Mike, so far? he kind of distances himself from everyone after richas dies with him, so far is the only person I've not seen much gay happenings happen to, tends to disappear to fuckall nowhere apparently, as one does. also the fact that, back in prison, he seemed to have the most difficulty connecting with others.
also, the Desolation hates him personally. he doesn't know why. his house has burnt down thrice. he gets burnt by the littlest things for no reason. he's banned from the kitchen. an avatar of the desolation tried to kill him once. he watched his own son die in front of him. this is based on nothing from qsmp or anything I've seen Mike do I just think it's funny
Pac- I can only think of Vast and Spiral for him tee bee eich. Leaning heavily towards the Vast because, you know. gestures to the giant hide and seek maps, and also O RAIO, even though I have 0 context for that. he just... he explores the world and made giant hole (yeah yeah holes are the buried but consider: it's big.). it's his "I can show you the world" vibes. again dude just trust me
note abt tazercraft: both of them are very, very touched by the Spiral. reason? Chume Labs
Forever- I'm thinking either the Buried (mostly the digging aspect- he's destroyed a whole mountain and dug up and entire desert), or the Hunt (his intense hunt for Phil's love, the insane grinding that could be seen as hunting for resources, the werewolf hc my beloved). Leaning more towards the Hunt bc dogboyyyyy
The plot I have in mind is very different from the tma plot, but I'm not sure of everything yet, so for now you get this little bpnus :)

We've been back from the Adoption Center for about a day now. Not a timely update, but things happened, and, well.
We found... we found a weird... creature. It- he? Acts human, although he can't talk. He communicates with us through a little notebook, and overall acts incredibly childish. He sure looks like a child. One with- with some material akin to... to egg shells as skin. He has hair, despite apparently being all... eggy. It's black and curly, covers his face. He doesn't like it when we try to move it away from there, but we're working on a safe way to see what's under there.
He seems not to know where he came from, but I know he's lying. It's- there's no way he doesn't, not with what he said, I don't care if Pac and Mike or, hell, Felps believes him, He called us fucking- he called us dads! That's the first fucking thing he said! It has to be some kind of trap, some kind of spy, I don't know yet but when I find out I'm going to fucking-
Shit. That wasn't too professional. Alright, where were we.
We brought him to the Institute. Forever and I weren't thrilled about the idea, but it was 3 against 2. I can't believe Felps would- I get Pac and Mike, there's something wrong with them I'm sure of it, but Felps? I underestimated his braincells. What am I talking about, he doesn't have any.
(Soft chuckle)
We, we named him Richarlyson, he seemed to like it. We asked his name first, but all he did was draw a- (Snort) a stick figure shrugging.
The only clothes he has are a singular oversized Brazil shirt. The moços and Felps want to go buy him clothes.
I don't know how they'll justify the kid having, I don't know, pure white hard skin, but they said not to worry about it, so I guess I won't! I won't. I fucking won't.
... I'm gonna follow them tomorrow. Just to be safe.
That's all for today, I'm gonna go- I'm going to check some statements, see if there's anything even remotely related to this.

Where are my bsd tma crossovers and aus!? Like what the fuck are you guys doing this has so much unexplored potential. I don't care if you do it with abilities or without, I just want my bsd tma au fics, and not just trying to make the bsd characters into the archive staff, or just having the bsd characters show up in the archive and beat everythings ass including the entities somehow even though the entities can't be beat EVEN with gravity, because Oh mY gOD sO sTroNg. No no no no I want to see them struggle, I want to see one of them get trapped, taken by the buried, went to the circus of the other and never come out, or something that is new and not one of the avatars from the og podcast, just something, even better don't have Ranpo figuring it out immediately, because number 1) that is just unrealistic even by Ranpo standereds, Ranpo is a man of logic, even if he does make some lapses in logic, but those lapses are possible to the world they are in, and we only really take them as lapses because we can't see Ranpo's process of thought, if we could see his thoughts then these lapses would probably make sense, however metaphysical entities (or possibly just one entity with a lot of variation) made of the fear of all living beings is nowhere near logical even in a world with abilites, which is another problem for Ranpo, because any avatars or weird shit could be blamed on abilites, of course it can't just be blamed on abilites forever, there are archives after all (archives and not archive because in the canon of tma there are shown to be multiple archives, which also brings up the possiblity of multiple archivists at the same time, which is something i chose to believe in) and there wouldn't be archives or at least not to the public, if none thought what they saw was supernatural. Ranpo also wouldn't have access to the actual archive only the library where there is barely anything of actaul note, which brings me to number 2) it could make Ranpo an eye avatar, now why isn't Ranpo already an eye avatar? Because he's never actually had to try, he always figures it out in just a few seconds so he's never really felt that drive to know, never had that feeling of curiosity or the need to know even if it kills you, because he has always known, but now he doesn't, there is to much missing, he can try and find solutions that might work but none of them feel right, like there is some missing puzzle piece that he can't for the life wrap his head around, this has never happend before even with Dazai, though he struggle figured out most of it at least, not this time, this time he has nothing, no idea of what is going on, he is stuck in a desert and ever time he thinks he sees water, or just some kind of salvation it turns out to be a hallucination, a concoction from the mind of a desperate man, and this is where shame sets in, because if he can't solve something so simple then could he really call the greatest detective, and this shame transforms into that need, that need to know even if it kills him. Now there is a lot of places you can take this idea, will Ranpo go to his local spooky eye place? Will he be a freelancer? Well it is almost a guarantee that he will drive away the other members of the detective agency with his obsession. Of course you can come up with your own ideas. This is just one of many ideas i have, and i am probably also going to post some of them too. Now onto a real question how are avatars going to attack ability users, well the entities are very adaptable, in the og podcast they just had to deal with normal humans, now however since there are gifted they are most likely going to make stronger avatars, plus because of gifted the avatars will have to be smarter about how they go about their hunting, also there are probably also going to be gifted avatars, but case and point the entities and avatars are going to adapt, so they will always be at the top of the good chain. There are a lot of fun questions that come about from a tma-verse. How faithful are we talking. Are they full blown Avatars? Do they have to feed their patron? If so how would they go about it? I do believe a subway system would be pretty rich in targets as they have commuters that come day in and day out.

It is very faithful to tma canon, because instead of being eebied to Hisui, Ingo instead ends up in tma London! So the first part of the au is quite literally in tma. There's a whole running gag that Jon used to be into pokemon, and he gives Ingo and Emmet a copy of Pokemon White to play and they mark it with the Spiral and Buried respectively, and eventually it just gets marked by so many different avatars that that's what starts the apocalypse instead of the statement Elias gives Jon. Ingo and Emmet do get back to the pokemon universe before that happens though so it's fineeeeee

Are they full blown avatars?
Yes they are!! Ingo became an avatar when he became the Distortion, and Emmet became an avatar to escape Ingo's subway :)
For context on that, when Ingo and Emmet first reunited, it. Didn't go well! Because Michael had latched onto Ingo as a perfect victim (he was literally questioning the entire foundation of his reality, how could Michael resist?) and used Ingo's vague memories to torment him with the idea of the man in white
So Ingo doesn't think Emmet is real, and they end up fighting, and in that fight it comes up that Ingo has been eating people bc. He's the Distortion, that's what the Distortion does. And Emmet is like WHAT THE FUCK. THATS NOT OKAY. And anyways things continue and Ingo is convinced of Emmet's realness and is like oohhhh. He was important to the person Ingo. He could make me be that person again (bc the Distortion is a what, not a who, but just like Helen, he wants that anyways)
So he says to Emmet, "I have missed you so much. We can catch up, on the subway" and there, impossibly on the wall, is a sliding door leading to a subway car
Ingo is Emmet's brother. He will always trust him. He walks through the door, and finds himself in an impossible, endless subway
By now their argument has caught up with Ingo, and he's like. Ah. Emmet, the thing that anchored me to myself for the first time, said I shouldn't eat people. So I won't. And he goes on a hunger strike
Problem is, because of him doing that, Emmet can't get out. There is no out
But, a pressure at the back of his head whispers, there is a way down. And he Becomes, and begins to understand why Ingo took those people. He understands, because he has his own subway now
Do they have to feed their patron?
Also yes :) and yes, the subway is a verrrry convenient way to feed, especially since their domains are both subways as well! Very verrrry easy to be in a rush to get to your destination and take the wrong door :)
It's a bit of a perfectly awful situation really! They're both each other's anchors, which is great because they're good anchors to their sense of selves. The problem is, they kind of have this massive echo chamber going on, where as long as the other agrees and says that the act was justified, anything goes. And of course, with feeding, it keeps the other person healthy and alive. Why wouldn't they want their brother, their anchor, to stay safe? So their morals degrade rather rapidly!!
As far are their domains go, they're both differently flavored subways that have some degree of overlap (meaning it's possible to start in one, and end up in the other). Ingo's an endless maze that should not be possible. Trains that just never stop, stairwells that go on forever only to lead to nowhere, windows that show cities that don't exist
Emmet's is much more centered around the claustrophobia of the subways. Passageways that are a little too small, ceilings that are surely too cracked to hold, the weight of the world bearing down above you, held off only by the flimsy, crumbling cement. The trains are tight, dirty. There's never enough light to properly see anything
This video reminds me a lot of Ingo's subway :)

Idk if anyone’s done this yet but I’ve had the basic concept for an rvb tma au bouncing in my head for forever now
Did this start purely because I realized how well the Director and Church would fit Elias/Jonah and Sims after MAG 160? Yes
Church as Sims
Isn’t quite sure how he ended up with this job, especially as the head of the department, but the pay’s good and he doesn’t 100% hate it so he’s not complaining
Doesn’t believe at all in all this spooky ghost stuff they have him reading
His assistants get on his nerves, especially whoever keeps leaving him hot chocolate and leaves their drawings around
Is confused why tape recorders keep randomly turning on when he’s at work but “maybe they’re just busted”
Doesn’t know much about the archivist before him
Caboose as Martin
So friend shaped
Lied on his resume so he could get a job to help support his sisters
Loves hot chocolate
His boss is super grumpy so he leaves him hot chocolate sometimes because hot chocolate makes him happy, so maybe it’ll help his boss too
He’s sure him and his boss are good friends because of this. The other assistants don’t thing so, but what do they know?
He likes using his time to draw and sometimes his drawings accidentally get mixed up with statements
He especially like to draw him and his friends fighting aliens in space wink wink nudge nudge

Actually wasn’t the biggest fan of Caboose at first, but warmed up to him by the time Church got there

The Dark World can be very dangerous. One dark night, hiding from predatory crows, Jon and Martin—and John and Arthur—have an important talk.
A Malevolent x TMA crossover. Part of the Just a Little Sidequest series.
Okay, I've started a new AU, and it's thanks to @captaincravatthecapricious. We are now following the adventures of John, Arthur, Jon, and Martin in the Dark World as they try not to be tormented by The Horrors… and try to find Faroe. Yes, this is Jasper's fault. Enjoy.

This is taking place in the Dark World, so understand, they are all dead - but they are also together, and that's what matters.
You don't have to see anybody die.

“Hey, Jon?” Martin’s voice was quiet, though that was likely pointless; the pecking thrushcrows on the roof definitely knew they were there. 
“Yes?” said Jon; his eyes (all of them) moved constantly, studying what dug relentlessly at their dwelling, what made the nightmare sounds.
Martin shifted. He knew it was silly to hide under the blanket; it wouldn’t stop even a normal crow from pecking him, never mind one of these things. It still felt better.  “We need to eat. We can be injured. I got a sunburn, preparing the place for these birds. I… I’m sorry. I know you’re busy.”
“It’s all right, Martin.” Jon’s voice was doubled, deepened, echoing the way it did when he was keeping an eye (ha-ha) on too much. “Ask your question.”
Martin shifted again. He thought Jon was lovely like this (so esoteric, so removed) and suspected it meant he was a little messed up in the head, but that was the least of his worries. “Those birds could kill us.”
“Strip the flesh from us,” Jon corrected, no emotion in his voices now. “Stain their beaks with our blood. Steal whatever they can peel off our forms and fly away to make gristly nests.”
Martin had heard all this before. Jon had been very clear when he’d gotten his vision, shouting instructions across the Chasm. It still turned his stomach. “Then what’s the difference between life and death, anyway, if we can just die again?”
Jon came back into himself. He turned toward Martin, extra eyes closing, green glow fading, and all the strange, inhuman polish disappeared as he turned toward his love.
Then it was just Jon. His softness, his gentle eyes, all for Martin. “We can’t die again,” he said. “We can be reduced to shredded veins like spaghetti in this place, but we can’t die again. There’s no escape. That’s the difference.”
Martin touched Jon’s cheek, swallowing hard. The birds banged on the roof and the walls, almost as if trying to make such sound as to panic their prey into running. “So we can suffer?”
“We can suffer. But we don’t have to.”
“Are there safe places in this Dark World?” said Martin.
“Yes. But so far away, Martin. So far. It’s going to take us months to get there when we finally decide to leave.”
Martin sighed, cheeks puffing out. “So it’s about staying healthy until we can go.”
“Yes. Preparing. It’s why sometimes I insist on legal tender instead of goods when we’re bartering.”
“Do we age?”
“Only if we believe we should,” said Jon.
Martin swallowed. “I don’t know how to not do that?”
“I’ll do it for you.” Jon drew him near. He was the smaller man, slight, significantly lighter; but that didn’t matter now. “I won’t let any harm come to you.”
“Forever is a long time,” Martin said.
“When you’re done here, we’ll go elsewhere. All the worlds end here; all their histories and peoples, arts and sciences and foods. We will never run out of things to see. I just want to be sure….”
“Sure of what?”
The beaks were like cruel rain all around them, startling, uneven. 
“I want to be sure we have… options. That they can’t separate us, or force us into some… eternal menial job, or worse.”
“So all of that sounds horrible,” Martin said softly. “What you’re saying is you want to lean into this god thing that Kayne guy keeps telling you you are.”
Jon fell silent.
Martin kissed him. “I don’t care, you know. Whatever weirdness is going on. It’s you I love, and you are very much still you.”
“Warts and all?” Jon’s smile was weak.
“Warts and all.” Martin’s smile faded. “Do you think he’s right?”
Jon sighed. “I don’t know. I can’t see myself. Apparently causing the apocalypse, killing your maker, and then dying by your lover’s hand isn’t the usual method of obtaining, but I seem to have hit some kind of metaphysical lottery.”
Some angry thrushcrow banged the boards nailed around their windows. Martin jumped. “Lucky us.”
“We are. We’re together. We have a leg up, thanks to whatever is going on. We’re going to be all right.”
“What about our neighbors?”
Tha answer came at once. “So will they. Whatever that John is… he’s growing. From what they’ve said, I don’t think he could do that back on Earth; it was too separated from magical folderol. But here? He’s absorbing it like… like…” Jon hesitated. “The… Hulk and gamma radiation?”
Martin laughed. “Gods, I love you. I accept your ridiculous analogy.”
Jon harrumphed. “It wasn’t that terrible. anyway. It’s only a matter of time before he’s back to full godhood—and whatever he is is significantly more impressive than whatever I am.”
“I disagree.” Another kiss. “John can go hang.”
They both chuckled, a sweet sound under the cawing like frustrated screams. “Be nice.”
“Never again,” said Martin loftily, then sobered. “And Arthur?”
Jon laughed softly. “I almost pity anything that might come after him once John’s come into himself.” He sighed a little. “That will be such a sight to see.”
“Sounds like we need to stick near them so you can.”
“I’d like to.” Jon snuggled closer.
“So would I.” Martin didn’t know how he’d do this without Jon. He also knew he wouldn’t have to. “I know this, though: I see all I really need right now.”
Jon wrapped around him. They shared air, and quiet kisses, and eventually fell asleep to the sound of rhythmic, futile pecking on the roof.

Arthur lay in their bed, windows boarded, room secure, but the pecking and cawing of the thrushcrows on the roof pinged at his nerves, making him tense as one of those boards.
It was still wrong, hearing the things the Archivist had described, and not even being able to peek. It was still unfair, that whatever death meant gave him back the strength of his youth, but not his sight.
“Hey, John?” Arthur’s voice was tight.
What? said John, whose attention was split, who gripped Arthur’s sleep-shirt in a tight fist as though to keep him from being carried away. 
Arthur’s jaw clenched. He knew he’d only see the ceiling of this bedroom in this tiny, two-story house, and not the crows that wanted to eat them—but he still resented the darkness tonight. “Did you know about these things last time you were here?”
Yes. John always had a particular tone about the Dark World from before they’d met. It was so grim. 
“Did you hide from them?”
No. They got me. Along with so many other things. 
“Got you?” said Arthur, voice jumping an octave.
The thrushcrows’ calls and sharp attacks grew wilder, briefly like a hailstorm, and Arthur gasped.
You’re all right. They can’t get in. They can’t get you.  John’s hand left the shirt and gripped Arthur’s hand, tight.
“What did they do to you?”
Exactly what the Archivist said. Strip your flesh. Leave you shrieking and wishing you could die.
“You went through all of that,” whispered Arthur. 
That was the least of it. You’d heal then and… it would start again. Like I told you—we can’t die again. 
Arthur swallows. “You had a body.”
Of… some kind. I’m sorry, Arthur—I’ve forgotten. I don’t remember how to do that, or even if I can anymore.
“I don’t care.” Arthur placed his hand over John’s. “I’ve got one for both of us. However it works.”
We’re responsible for however it works, but I don’t remember how to change that.
“You remembered how to taste through my tongue, but not how to give my eyes back.” Low.
Yes.
He wasn’t trying to blame Kayne anymore. They both knew this was somehow because of Arthur. Because of something in his head or heart. Their physical forms were created from their own perception.
But thinking of that made him think of Kayne’s final offer.
The last thing Arthur heard before being killed.
There, there, don’t cry! It’s almost over.
No! No! I’m not ready!
Shhhh-shh-shh. You’ve entertained me, Artie. I’m inclined to give you a choice. You don’t want to throw that away.
(John, shouting, but Arthur couldn’t make out what he said.)
Wh… what choice?
Arthur had never faced anything as inevitable as Kayne. So cruel. That choice…
We’ll find her someday, Arthur, John said, because he knew by now that’s where Arthur went when quiet.
Arthur swallowed repeatedly; the pecking and glass-sharp calls of thrushcrows pierced him the way Kayne’s fingers had in the end, in that final, dying moment. “I don’t regret my choice.” But he did.
Yes, you do. 
Yes, he did. “No, I don’t. Fuck you.”
He made you choose between us. I…. I can never pay you back for what you did for me. Now, John’s voice was tight. We will find her. I know what this cost you.
“No, you fucking don’t,” Arthur snapped between clenched teeth.
The thrushcrows responded to his anger. Their cries rose, maybe summoning more birds, maybe just performing nightmare-multiplication, hunger splitting in two, and the banging—roof, doors, boarded windows— grew.
John did not tell him to calm down. So that was good.
Arthur gripped John’s wrist and could not keep in one single sob.
We’ll find her. We’ll figure out how to do it.
“She could be getting eaten by fucking birds. ”
No. No. Remember the wording of his choice. She’s not.
Oh, Arthur remembered.
It’s simple! I mean, you’re bleeding the fuck out, so we’re gonna keep it simple. (Those fingers dug in.) Either I drop you at one end of the Dark World, and you’ll be in a better place, and in spitting distance of Faroe… but John gets dropped at the other end, alone. In an even worse place than the first time.
(Arthur makes a sound. It might have been a sob. He knew where this was going.)
OR… I drop you together. In still a pretty bad place , but… together. Just really fucking far away from her.
Kayne, please!
Shhhh-shh-shh. The way you dealt with Larson’s kid? Fucking delicious. The way you handled Epiales’ bastard? Gods, I couldn’t have predicted any of it. You get this one choice. Thank me, Arthur.
(Arthur sobbed.)
Thank. Me.
(John shouting, words smeared.)
(Could he even live with himself if he chose—)
Waiting, Artie. Do not spurn my favor.
(Hardest words) Th… thank… (words like bricks and vomit and regret) Thank you.
Good boy. Now, choose.
And Arthur had chosen.

That makes it both better and worse. Arthur chokes another sob, but his anger is dimmed.
We keep working. We figure out your sight, and my strength, and what we can do. We prepare ourselves so we can make this journey. Then, we will fucking find your girl.
Arthur pressed John’s hand to his lips. He was shaking.
Outside, the thrushcrows suddenly flew away, enormous wings slapping the air, caws dropped in favor of eerie, airborne silence.
They spotted some poor fuck, said John. We should be safe now.
“I’d rather wait until Jon—the Archivist—says all-clear.”
Me, too. Besides, it’s like… fuck-o-clock in the morning.
Arthur snorted. “That an official time?”
Clocks don’t lie.
They had no clocks. Arthur laughed weakly. He was still leaking a little from the eyes, but he believed John. 
They’d find her. Somehow. Some way.
John stroked his hair. Go to sleep. I’ll keep watch.
“I know you will.” And Arthur slept.

Being a travelling bard is a lonelier existence than one might imagine. There are no concrete places, only the misty morning road with brief, warm stops along the way, singing words of praise to people Martin can’t know well enough to decide if they’re worthy to earn his supper
Martin thinks, or hopes, or hopes he thinks, that he could compose for the Ward of Magnus Keep forever. Maybe he’s not good enough to earn Jon’s love forever, to earn the right to stay, but he works harder each season, to express sincere love. More and more of his poems and songs speak of longing for a sombre eyed, moonhaired love, out of reach.
Jon takes some seasons to realise that he is the remote, serious, illuminating beauty in Martin’s songs, his reason to sing, and had been hopelessly pining, chastely, using the laws of courtly love his grandmother taught him. Martin, who never really spent much time with people older than his own mother, does not in his turn understand why Jon owns so many diaphanous scarves, or how he keeps losing them and Martin keeps finding them. They work it out.
Jon is fated for the cloister. He’s known that since he was old enough to know anything at all. He was orphaned, and Jonah took pity on his plight. Jonah has no heirs, and a claimed bastard is better than nothing (everyone knows Jon isn’t Jonah’s blood. Everyone knows he is nonetheless Jonah’s creature.)
There was once a wizard named Elias Bouchard, a braggart and no scholar. He was made Jonah’s creature, too, hollowed out and claimed. If Jonah makes enough, perhaps, perhaps, he can make the very beast of death his pet as well. Be king of the world, undying, in an endless war of attrition.

Hello AAAA I saw your ruikasa tma au and if you don't mind can you share a little bit about them?? Are they connected to The Stranger and The Corruption? :0 I Need To Know More (only if you don't mind ofc),,, I love when silly little guys turn into unimaginable horrors and feed on fears or something
OMG!!! I am so happy someone asked this because it has been in my brain for months now! Okay so yeah, as one does I was trying to sort project sekai characters into the fears when it occurred to me that out of all of them, it would make the most sense if tsukasa was corruption(fear of bugs, need to be loved by all, being subjected to lots of sickness as a child even if it wasn't him who was sick, I'm sure that still left a pretty great impression on him) and then a second thing hit me which was: I'd feel so guilty making him corruption lol. So this led me to another train of thought, How can I make the corruption a little less upsetting? And then I remembered that I think about my interests 24/7 and I had already drafted a drawing of a butterfly corruption avatar so I figured I might as well use that idea there. I figured his descent would be sort of similar to jane prentice where he sort of hears the song coming except it's coming from his window and I also think the butterfly thing works here since they're a lot more palatable than other bugs. They promise give him love forever and make his dreams come true and slowly overtime he gives in. I haven't worked out all the details but I know the climax of his transformation would be at the end of a performance, he goes to bow and then sort of turns into a massive cloud of butterflies that fly away and everyone watching is really impressed by the "special effects" but the rest of wxs is horrified.
Okay so next my brain went to rui because my brain always goes to Rui. For Rui, I imagine that he already had been compelled by the stranger before. In tma, why exactly people get taken by the stranger is very vague but I do know the stranger is about otherness, something a little bit off from human. I don't really have confirmation of this in canon but considering how he was treated by his peers most of his life, specifically being excluded and called things like weird and creepy, I'd imagine that would make him feel like an other and the big thing is his machines which he literally makes to take the roll of humans at points are also very stranger. He kind of reminds me of the first account of the unknowing too. I imagine witnessing the whole incident with tsukasa might make him remember a previous account with the stranger and reignite that fear as well as tsukasa, the person who pretty much directly pulled him out of his whole "loner with only machines to support him" thing, suddenly disappearing (because I wouldn't want to kill him off :( ) would probably also contribute. I also haven't thought out all of the details for him but his design is sort of based on old wind up robot toys.
Some other vague things about the au are:
- Ena is the archivist and mizuki sort of takes the roll of martin
- Mafuyu and Kanade both are affiliated with the web
- Nene and Emu aren't associated with fears despite being very involved in my in brain idea of this au
- I think Shizuku would take the roll of the distortion but mainly because I think its funny

*cracks knuckles* so these are the ones I have every intention of writing in the future: either i've put words down for it, or have thought about it enough that I do think I'll write it. put under cut because. a lot.
MALEVOLENT: THE CASE OF THE MISSING LILY or FORMALDEHYDE or NOBLE EXPERIMENT, title in progress: First on the block is a 1920s Prohibition AU where John is kicked out of the portal and realizes he has to commit a human sacrifice if he wants to rejoin the KiY. however, complications arise with the sacrifice he's found, Local Drunk Arthur Lester. The two are embroiled in a case for a missing singer.
This one’s gonna have a lot of Prohibition fun facts in it. 
Unnamed Cybernoir Future AU - Arthur Lester and Parker Yang are your local PIs. when investigating a case, they find a game that they thought was only an urban legend: the King in Yellow (think Polybius). Accidents happen, killing Parker, knocking out Arthur's memory, and inserting one unnamed fragment into Arthur's brain. i have been wanting to mix Lovecraftian nightmares and Cybernoir forever.
Unnamed Dracula AU - Known pianist Arthur Lester is invited to Dracula's castle, to perform for a party. An alleged party, as days pass and Arthur finds that he's the only one there. During his investigations, he uncovers an odd book and receives an odd voice in his head - and he realizes he's not the only one trapped in this castle.
Some one-shots: a post-EP 26 where John is temporarily yeeted into the driver's seat of Arthur's body, a little cozy Christmas Parker & Arthur feels trip, etc.
TMA: Just some one-shots here for the time being! Looking at a jig-saw themed Scottish safehouse one-shot, an early S2 'John helps Martin move into his new flat' one-shot, and a Somewhere Else 'Martin finally helps John celebrate his birthday' one-shot!

Why did you create Ruby and Jane?
CW for mentions of infant and child death.
Ruby was actually one of my muses for a group rp I ran about 10 years ago at this point, which is wild to think about. I don't remember my exact thought process outside of having her be the favorite sex worker in this tiny fantasy kingdom's brothel, with magic eyes that enthralled anyone who looked met her gaze directly. She was veiled and pretty from the start, but had no surviving children at the time. 
After I moved her to indie RP, Jane was still canonically dead, but she played a much larger role in Ruby’s life. Ruby had been given a year to Raise her daughter, and ultimately was only lead to believe Jane was alive, being raised abroad. She was still a sex worker, more of an internationally renowned courtesan than a local one, and an agent for her criminal mastermind of a sponsor, while Jane was only alive in an AU here and there. Then I decided screw that, Jane lives, and they all lived forever after.
What is one aspect of their development that you hope for? What would you like to see happen to the two of them?

What do you hope never happens to them? What would you consider to be the worst case scenario outcome for them?
I don’t know that I have anything I specifically hope never happens to them since I do enjoy writing a good angsty plot, though I do have a few especially triggering plots I refuse to write. The worst case scenario outcome that I AM willing to write however, is Jane’s death (Again). The Jane that lives with Ruby in most verses is not actually a true living child, but a homunculus of some sort or another. In her main verse, Jane was created by the fairy who granted Ruby’s wishes, and thus can never grow. In her TMA verse, Jane was created by the stranger. 
In all cases, however, Jane cannot go far from the place of Ruby’s power. If she leaves the archival realm, the magic holding her together will break and she’ll fall apart at the seams for good. It would be such a painful end, Ruby having spent so many years protecting Jane from the world, all but keeping her as a prisoner. And the one time -- the one time she trusts the world enough to let Jane out into it, it immediately crumbles in her hands. I don’t know that Ruby would survive after that. There’s no person she can kill to take her revenge on this time. Nothing and no-one to blame but herself.
Could she die if she stopped eating? If she simply lay down and never got up again? It’s hard to say, but certainly it would be a long, long grief regardless.

Hello, I love your meta! I was just wondering if you had any thoughts on Martin's belief that he and Jon wouldn't have gotten together under normal, non magnusy circumstances? Because that made me sad.
Thank you so much!! Also apparently you unlocked a ramble, because it turns out I never actually posted all my thoughts about this in one place.
To start: I SUPER disagree with him, on two levels:
- One: Jon was just trying to daydream about "I wish we could have a life together without the constant abuse and trauma." Just desperate for a bit of escapism and comfort, not really asking for a "sorry Jon, you were too awful for that to actually happen." It was an odd subject-hop, especially since Martin was just trying to talk Jon out of a guilt-spiral.
- Two: All of Martin's examples of the "normal job" were already when Jonah's manipulation was in full-swing, and Jon already had two marks! Martin was hired to be a buffet of fear and secrecy! The cards were stacked against them from the beginning, and every bad thing that happened just made it more difficult to connect--but they pressed through it anyway. Martin could have just as easily become another Tim or Melanie, buckling down in blame and hatred of Jon the worst things got. Also something we rarely consider: JON could have reacted to all this abuse and torment by lashing out at those he actually has power over, rather than twisting himself into knots to respect and care for and protect them.
On a Doylist level, the writing for this scene honestly baffles me with the timing, missed opportunities, and implications. But for an in-universe interpretation, I think it's Martin's self-esteem issues at their loudest, colliding with his lack of understanding of Jon at that point.
S5 Martin's characterization really doubled down on his tendency to make assumptions about Jon, and then interpret Jon as being in denial if he disagrees (similar to his reaction in 154): he only wants to take Jonah's place because he enjoyed smiting people, not because he feels it's genuinely a way to help; he doesn't want to release the fears into the multiverse because he wants to martyr himself, not because he wants to prevent the fears from spreading; etc. It totally makes sense why Martin would have this habit with Jon: just look at how much deflection Jon does in the first three seasons, and how much we learned how the truth was very different from what Jon said. And Martin completely missed everything about s4 Jon's growth EXCEPT for him feeding on people!! He hasn't had time to adjust to Jon's new level of openness, especially when there are (seemingly) much more obvious explanations.
As for Martin's self-esteem issues, the way Jon treated Martin in s1 probably slotted right alongside how Martin's mother treated him, except Martin was in denial for years about his mother hating him. It makes sense that he'd be certain Jon hated him, and would continue to do so forever! Also apparently--and this takes an extreme stretch of disbelief for me--Jon and Martin got together without ever discussing how Jon used to treat Martin, so Jon never explained how it was all due to his insecurity and projection rather than actual hatred. Martin sees Jon's treatment as just because of how Martin is as a person, and seems to think that Jon only ended up with him because Martin's the only one who stuck with him after a thousand terrible things.
TLDR, I totally get where Martin is coming from, and am 1000000% in support of every AU or TMA epilogue fic that proves he's wrong (I read one the other day that was SO LOVELY). But at the same time I honestly refuse to believe that they were together for six months and discussed WHETHER GOD IS REAL, but Jonathan "apologizes for getting kidnapped" Sims never apologized for his s1 behavior after listening to tapes from s1 on repeat for who knows how long. So.

TMA Fanwork Appreciation Challenge: Time Travel
What a lovely way to pay homage to my favorite type of fic when I first joined the fandom! I read so many time travel fics near the beginning, and while I haven't picked up any new ones lately, I still have a list of favorites!
(For @themagnuswriters fanwork appreciation challenge, round two!)

I consumed this fic all in one sitting and adored it! An unconventional take on time travel (mixed with reality hopping) that was really captivating and heart-wrenching.

Sasha fixed Tim and Martin with a glare that was deathly serious. “But why should that stop us? It is— or was, I suppose, given... everything— our literal job to investigate supernatural events. If the police won’t figure out what happened to the Institute, we’ll do it. Doesn’t everyone deserve that? Doesn’t Jon deserve that?”
In the face of an unyielding apocalypse, the being that was once Jonathan Sims has a final, desperate idea. The archival assistants pick up the pieces.
I am obsessed with the concept of this fic! Jon goes back in time and kills his season one self, then kills Elias, so Sasha, Tim, and Martin are the only ones who survive from the Institute. They then embark on a quest to figure out what happened. It hasn't updated in a while, but I'm including it because I think it's still fascinating as-is and it truly is my favorite time travel fic in the fandom.

They have scars they don't recognize. Their hair is longer. 2018.
Martin seizes the calendar off the fridge and goes back into the living room. Jon's still at the coffee table, poking through the tapes piled there, but he looks up when Martin comes back in and says, "Martin, where…" with a familiar bite in his voice.
Martin ignores him, stops him mid-sentence to say, "Jon, what have you heard about time travel?"

Martin and Jon wake up two years in the future. It goes about as well as can be expected.
I loved the sort-of-flipping of the typical time travel trope in that s5 jmart goes back in time but s1 jmart also goes forward in time! Another fic that I read all in one sitting and adored immensely. The season one Jon/Martin dynamics in this are fantastic!

True to his word, he slumped down against the wall. Somewhere, a tape recorder clicked off.
"Alright," Tim said when the silence got uncomfortable, "We're not going to try and pretend that wasn't supernatural, right?"

Time travel but with Jon's consciousness confined to the tapes! Martin carries him around, and typical time-travel-esque shenanigans ensue. The 'Jon is tapes' is a very interesting twist on typical time travel fics, and I had a lot of fun reading this!

I really enjoy the exploration of the nuances of Jon's relationship with himself and just in general the mixture of character study and time travel fic. It also has a nice bit about gender exploration, with season five Jon using they/them pronouns.

Mod note: This fic... goddamit this fic. I read it halfway through s5 and I genuinely think this is one of the best endings the show could have had. It hit all the points Jonny made and then some. This fic is pain, yes, but the best kind.

Jon isn’t really Martin Blackwood’s biggest fan. And he knows it’s a him problem, because it’s not like Blackwood is a terrible person or like he loses on purposes just to ruin Jon’s life, but he can’t help it. In his defense, if you were on a hot streak and the same person kept coming in and ruining it for you every single time, you'd harbor a bit of resentment towards them, too.
Mod note: I’m so obsessed with this AU that I broke my vow of not making fanart for TMA and made fanart of it. Yeah. Sue me. It’s the perfect levels of pining, ridiculousness and it brought me (an argentinian whose only baseball reference is the HSM musical number) tremendous joy. As the us-statians would say: home fucking run. ALSO, MARTIN BLACKWOOD IS LATINOOOOO.

Martin forgets slowly at first, and then all at once. One moment he's grasping at memories, desperate without knowing why to retain even a single image of an angry, scarred stranger saying incomprehensible things about eyes, and the next, nothing. He can't even remember what had him so anxious just now. A car alarm, probably, or a dog barking in the distance. He's always startled easily.
Mod note: I still quote it to myself from time to time. ‘’Martin, you ate the megalodon’’ makes me giggle and also terribly sad. This is an excellent way of exploring entities lore, as well as grief and hope.

The collective shift that seems to come over them when heading in or out of the Institute. Not just the oppressive sensation of being observed, their every move catalogued for the voyeuristic cravings of some unseen Eye(s). That feeling remained with them even when they left the Institute these days, but it was always stronger inside its walls. That wasn’t the change. Nor was it the point.
The point was: making life worse for Jonathan Sims.

Mod note: Everytime I read this fic, I end up at least a little teary eyed. It’s not exactly happy, more bittersweet, considering, but I still love it.
Come Love This World (Come Hate It, Too) by cedarbranch. 3.3k words. Character Study, fluff and angst, spans s1-5. Canon Compliant. 
Jon never liked poetry, until Martin.
Mod note: Yes I am picking fics that personally came for my heart one way or another, not much else to say, besides that “it feels like loving you” haunts me still to this day, in a good way.

Martin was thinking of a poem. It’s name sat on the tip of his tongue, aching to get out. It was a lovely one, too: something about how life felt easy now, at peace; how the small things felt like everything, a poem about… the importance of the little moments. These last few days had been like that, he thought. He couldn’t stop smiling to himself recently, and even Jon teased him about it sometimes, though he was hardly less giddy. He thought of the immense joy the little things brought him now, the mugs of tea they made for each other, how he would lay in their bed late at night staring at the ceiling, his love nestled against his chest, overflowing with so much contentment and fondness he did not know what to make of himself.
Mod note: Short and sweet, it was the first time I read that particular poem, and now it’s forever intertwined in my head with little scenes of jon and martin in the scottish safehouse before 160 happens.

obvi the main ones are the terror (50 fics) and good omens (35 fics). beyond that: TMA, the OA, doctor who, LOST, red dwarf, what we do in the shadows, the aubreyad, legends of tomorrow, banished, MCU, bbc ghosts, jeeves & wooster, russian doll, true detective, twin peaks, fleabag, & it's always sunny.
so technically 19, but wow a LOT of those are because i am a fiend for crossovers. (true detective x red dwarf... twin peaks x hannibal... the OA x lost.... russian doll x doctor who...) and many of the others were one-offs for yuletide. i'm pretty monofannish when it comes to writing!
4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
lol they're all going to be for good omens... let's see
1. "it's a new craze" - the podcast fic. imho this fic is the definition of "The Claw," a.k.a. the phenomenon that sees some fics plucked out from the fray to become super popular. i'm not denying that it's good! i still think it's pretty clever! but its popularity was probably as much a function of timing as of quality
2. "what a way to make a living" - the uber driver fic. honestly still pretty proud of this one, it flows well and is structurally interesting and genuinely very funny and the perfect length. i had a blast in good omens fandom writing comedic fic, this one
3. "dearly departed" - another one i'm still very happy with. my first ever finished multi-chapter fic & the story that proved to me i could sustain a plot and original characters and also that people would actually enjoy it. so a pretty big deal!
4. "blame it on my juice, baby!" - the fake love potion one. i wrote this fic while delirious with horrible fever cooped up in a tiny council flat airbnb bedroom in london. i think it's still pretty strong although since writing it i've developed a severe aversion to the "meddling friend engineers a get-together" trope in fic & so cringe a bit when i read it back, lmao
5. "greatest hits" - the one with the original songs! the songs are still good.... the fic is ehhhhhhh i guess.
5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
i don't respond to comments on most of my gomens fic anymore because 🤷‍♀️ but i do try to reply to everything i get on my terror fic/smaller fandom stories! my replies are usually very lame but i do like to take the time to thank people for reading.
6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
i usually don't write angsty endings because i'm a weenie BUT the one exception is probably my terror/TMA crossover which cannot be said to end well by any means lol
7) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
dearly departed has a very lovely ending... i will also plug my OA fic heat rises which is GREAT and has a GREAT ending and nobody read it because nobody watched the OA. i'm fine it's fine
8) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?
as mentioned above, yes, compulsively... award for craziest simply has to go to It's Always Sunny In Another Dimension which is, yes, an IASIP x OA crossover. i apologize for nothing
9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?
not that i can recall, [bubbe voice] tenks gad!!!
10) Do you write smut? If so what kind?
i do i do.... when i first picked up fic writing again after college i thought smut would forever totally beyond me but after some very kind encouragement from friends i tried my hand at it & was off to the races.
i would not say i am an expert at it by any means but i have a lot of fun with it, & people seem to generally appreciate it, so i will keep going!
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

12) Have you ever had a fic translated?
yes, a bunch of my gomens fics have been translated into chinese and russian, which is so so super cool!
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
yuh, i had a few legendary cowrites in GO! the slow show metafic with cherry @fremulon and the shitscript crossover extravaganza with hallie @kalelraejepsen !!! both tremendously fun experiences
14) What’s your all time favorite ship?
that is a very tough one. if you go by my ao3 bookmarks it's aziraphale/crowley, which might be true still tbh... but i dunno. maybe ten/rose because that shit never leaves you.
15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
in terms of fic i already started posting, there's my one terror WIP with amnesiac tozer that i swear i WILL finish one day... and same goes for my good omens music & lyrics AU, which i fully expect to pick back up and finish off when i inevitably return to the fandom for series 2.
as far as stuff that never made it out of drafts, i started a hodgson-centric fic a few weeks ago that i got like 4k into before realizing i need to seriously refine my approach. so hopefully after exe fest i will get around to that!
16) What are your writing strengths?
well i am funny. so i've got that going for me. other than that ummmm i don't know. i don't think of myself as a particularly good or strong writer bc i really am just here for a laff. i think i can turn a phrase well and get the most out of imagery; i'm good at coming up with compelling story concepts and weird gimmicks, i guess?
17) What are your writing weaknesses?
i fundamentally don't know or understand how People Actually Act And Feel so i have a hard time getting realistic or interesting reactions and conflicts out of characters. my plots (when my stories have them at all) are very powered by external events, i wouldn't call myself a character-driven writer by any means. for the same reasons i struggle with voice and dialogue beyond superficial signposting via vocabulary/syntax. also, sustaining a long story/finding enough Stuff To Happen to fill it up/having the patience to keep writing... is something i need to work on for sure.
18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
i'm a lame american who only speaks english so honestly i don't really have thoughts!
19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?
i distinctly remember hand-writing in my notebook two or three pages worth of a story about what happened to the main precog in "minority report" after watching the movie when i was like seven. the first fandom i actually wrote fic for and posted it online was probably doctor who circa 2010 ish? but my warrior cats RP career predates that by a few years and i did a LOT of writing there. oh warriorsforest39 dot proboards dot com you are missed....

i’ve noticed that there’s getting to be a lot of jonmartin aus where jon isn’t human but martin is, which is interesting because there’s not a lot of other tma ships where people go for this dynamic, and also because... jon’s entire character arc revolves around the fact that he was never a monster, and doesn’t want to become one.
like, fae jon? that’s cool! but also... jon starves himself of statements to avoid hurting others. why did you make him a creature that delights in hurting humans and why did you make his love interest white. I’ve definitely seen this done well, but then there’s also fics that are like “what if jon was never human in the first place?” and its like... then he wouldn’t be Jon? if you’re going to tell me a creature just sprang into existence as the Archives, that means he was never a child, and never understood what it was like to be a helpless kid encounter a kind of magic no one in your life believes exist. The trauma of a near death experience, especially as a kid, is something that follows you forever. And it’s a big part of the reason Jon got interested in the supernatural in the first place! 
Jon’s not just some hoard of knowledge. he insists on recording the prentiss incident & taking everyone’s statements afterwards because he thinks someone is going to kill him and wants to know that there’ll be proof of that when it happens. so many of jon’s early decisions can be boiled down to being scared and human. that’s why he becomes the Archives. that’s why Jonah needed him to become Archivist. And I’m not saying that this means you can’t make an au where he’s a dragon or something but just... be mindful of the character you’re changing, you know?
