a bunch of sketches/concept art/wips of hs!slugcats because i thought it was interesting to share! (+ my commentary because i love to ramble)

first appearance of survivor and hunter, i did them in an aggie with my kismesis... although i drew on half of the canvas,, survivor looks very disasterous here because i was struggling to give them the most "neutral" clothes (the lines on their skirt is the the survivor karma/symbol) (ill get to it in the next image

concept ideas for all of the symbols for the scugs, originally was going to also include the karma theyre associated with, but i quickly dropped that realizing how "complex" it would be on their designs, especially rivulets. you can actually still see this in monks design! their necklace still has the monk karma on it x)

more survivor outfit failures... i think this would look too weird for me + unconventional in an environment where they have to run around the world (thats why i gave most of them shorts/clothes that make them move better. except for saint of course.) also, survivor with this outfit looks like toriel LOL

i reeeeaaaaally disliked spearmasters older design. it looks uncomfortable. there was another one where they wore long black gloves and thigh highs (again, i did not like it so i deleted it and kept redrawing it.) sm also appears more spiky here, but the texture was too rough for me if that makes sense. i did not like the scarf either...

oh, yeah. i kept the artificer pose from this because it was too cool to let go !!! amazing considering i drew it with my finger on ibis paint haha

this is the sketch for the second bundle of the designs, again i borrowed the artificers pose from the previous one x)) nothing to say much other than this is where i redrew the spearmaster (i still did not keep their long cape still, you can still see it in this sketch though)

heres the third bundle... i changed the rivulets pose because they looked like they were holding in a pee........... saint looked too dramatic so i changed it too

speaking of saint, this is their older design, i didnt keep the long hair because i thought it looked a bit too silly. i still prefer the one with short hair! also rivulet has way more frills in this than their current design

and hey! speaking of rivulet, coming back to this. i kept changing their colors because something was bothering me and i couldnt figure it out! was satisified enough with the current one though

going back to saint again, i was going to make them have a pink robe but it blended in with the tongue too much so i made it orange instead! strawberry saint would be... very interesting though!

now to the other stuff that doesnt have art/purely just text

heres vibes i wanted to have for each of the scugs and their shape language

monk = friendly, energetic, joyful, some sort of childish shape

survivor = neutral, unsure, wary, a mix of shapes intented to not make you feel anything

hunter = hostile, cool, alert, sharp shape

downpour ones!!

gourmand = "cool uncle" energy (i dont know how to explain it), silly, round shapes

artificer = dangerous, rough, unhinged, spiky shape

spearmaster = mysterious, elegant but still dangerous, agile, sharp shapes

rivulet = the "athletic dude" (gender neutral), bubbly (get it?), very long shape (i also made them the tallest scug due to how tall swimmers are the fastest)

saint = smirky, calm, quiet, cozy shape

id also like to mention this- the reason why hunters clothes are purple is because they are associated with nsh! not a detail that many people notice. also another thing that i put thd detail in, since monk and survivor are siblings i made their clothing styles similar to each other!!! the brainrot goes so hard!!!! i think thats enough rambling,, as i have many things to do..

k lol but i rlly hate the lower half of the face so bear with me. this is just a little sketch im doing trying to generate some ideas for a character im making a design for. (ill elaborate in tags so this post isnt super long)

22. What inspires you?

a lot!!! so ive been thinkin abt my biggest art insprirations throughout my life and rn the artists who really inspire me/i was obsessed w as a kid is: Jill thompson, Mab Graves, Elias Ericsson, C.E. Schmitt, Leslie Hung and theres a lot more but those r some of my current faves! I also am inspired a lot by theatre- i see a lot of local stuff and its always been a good way for me to gain inspiration as a visual artist since theatre has so many visual moments that have honestly changed my life. I wish i could explain a lot of the visuals that stick out to me in stuff i’ve seen but a) most of these moments are small productions/new shows that havent gotten another production since so no one knows them b) even the photos dont capture what it was like to be there/lack the context. I also went out and saw all kinds of art since i was very small, including performance, sound sculpture, instillation and other all emcompassing art and its rlly given me a wayyy more creative mindset then i could have if i wasnt exposed at an early age!

a bonus thought post for the night!!

on that nostalgia raising feelings train but it derails so it got long so its under a readmore :*

scrolling my old art made me a bit sad and nostalgic (who doesnt get those feelings though doing the same) specifically i really have my heart going out to kid me who got basically no notes on anything. (im not saying i shouldve, art was definitely kid art and questionably tagged etc!) but some i put effort into and it made me so happy to get those 10 likes or whatever. it made me post post and post even what i was working on and unfinished bits (Sure, being me? many of those never got finished bc posting gave the hit of reward chemicals, no response meant no motivation to finish to get more yknow?)

its weird thinking ive now as an adult got a handful of posts with -hundreds- of notes. one over a thousand!! (sure, the really good and popular artists may have thousands but hey they deserve it!!) its weird that i sort of maybe now know what to do to get a reaction out of my prefered niche of the internet. that if i tried w some more consistently, who knows?

im proud of everything in my current art tag. (mostly. no. i am proud shut up brain) i feel slightly like posting more wips. bc i have a ton. surprisingly? ive been drawing way more in the past year than ive been posting (new for me). of course, there is no obligation to post it. why post stuff im not happy with? only to get anxious abt it? sure posting that one teaser when i was actively working on making it better was kinda fun. sure maybe posting some wips would make me go back and finish them bc some of them are good ideas?? but also some are just. theyd make sense to nobody but myself. and why should i share every crevice of my creativity like i used to as an attention craving kid?

my blog is my blog its me, its not a nice art blog its got all my vents and whatever i like to reblog on a given day on it all together. i could make a new tag that feels less like a portfolio to post wips i abandoned or doodles that never went further. it might be nice having them out here. but somehow i feel like id be too embarassed to post them, for my few followers to actually see them. what if i actually tagged them and ppl in tags saw my nonsense doodles? is it worth it? right now my art tag feels like its: dinluke and finished at that ONLY. things that people who come on my blog would like to see perhaps...

hahahhahahha i just crashed my Krita trying to with brash abandon look at all the unposted wips i have at once

turns out i have like. a handful of original works that never got past a rough doodle stage which is fair yknow they were just ideas that could be fleshed out but dont need to. some of them are very personal vent art

ive got a few sketch to tiny doodle to questionable attempt at painting etc bits of the star wars ladies. reminds me that i should branch out in my star wars posting and that drawing women is just way easier and more natural to me why dont i do it more?

ive got a good few fic inspired sketches that never got legs and tbf? theyre olddd now.

ive got like 12 frames of the inktober challenge from last year... in the style of posting 5 at a time, theyve all been sketched out and like half are i think finished. obviously october went long and at some point it just felt weird to post them even if i finished them. i sort of decided if i finish them up early autumn i could get away w posting them for beginning of october while i had a try at the new inktober? idk why i like a challenge to force me to draw more than i do in a year. and then it takes me a year lol. i have a set of 5 that are all inspired by fic, and like. i still like the idea of them. unfortunately? some of the references were old.. A YEAR AGO. sure theres like, the appreciation for vintage and telling ppl we like their work ages on. but i worry the authors no longer are in the fandom or want to be reminded of their work? etc etc. some of them are meh, some i like.

ngl i am especailly happy w my oct 31 post, which i really wish id finished on time for last year. heres to seeing if i post it this year? maybe i’ll finish what i want to finish of them (theres like. 2 im just really not inspired for and never was) and then have a wee collage of them to post, w the oct 31 prompt seperate, as a sort of. hey wip clear out! these are the stragglers from last year :))

maybe ill post original art one day when i get drawn enough to finish one.

ok ok hi welcome indepth to my thought process, bonus thoughts for every thought included. this doesnt need to be on the internet SURE but its a small time capsule for myself ok?

i dont think right now making a doodle tag to post wips is gonna bring me anything but anxiety and feelings of inadequacy i know too well from posting art as a teen. maybe at some point itll help break the barrier and ill just. post shit but it doesnt have to be on my ““portfolio tag”“

i could pick up an wip to finish now, ive got a good few candidates. but i think i should best just, shake off the cobwebs on smth new so i dont feel like im ruining it. it might be a rey or a leia or other star wars heroine portrait. it might be grogu bc hes an already ugly gremlin. it might be something else. i might be talking a high load of shit bc its 3 am again and i should go sleep rather than push myself in delirium. odds are tomorrow im exhausted again, feel like i should do things that actually benefit me in my life and address responsibilites, and shut down under the weight of the thought of it and not do anything until i go crazy at night again? time will tell but rn im stuck in that loop.

perhaps i should never have posted this bc its very long and personal but also? i kinda doubt anyone will read it and thats ok :)) if you are here, hi sorry that you know me better now! uhhh thoughts on the above?

unless you oppose to it during the process, there's a chance that i might use the commissioned artwork on my social medias as a way to promote me and my services. if that bothers you or makes you uncomfortable, you gotta tell me.

you retain all rights over the intellectual property of the commissioned piece and i assure you i won't make any claims over it, but the artwork is mine nonetheless. it's for personal use ONLY until stated otherwise, and you CANNOT profit from it or use it commercially unless we discuss it beforehand.

i won't make you NSFW art if you're under age, for obvious reasons. any minors asking for commissions of any other kind need have permission from their legal guardian, unless they have their own bank account.

if you want to eventually print the artwork, please state this before we get started on the commission. my default set-up is made for small files that are going to pixelate once you size them up to make, say, a poster. it's going to reflect badly on the end result of my work and i can make it right from the start if only you warn me first.

and i won't lower the price of any commissions below where they are now. the prices are as accessible as they can be. i'll work hard on each and every piece ever commissioned and and i need money like any other person too, respect me and my work.

hrrg oc scrybe of tomfoolery

this is slowly turning into an inscryption blog, isn't it? ill post more robots soon i prommy im just a little lost in the sauce

anyways, heres a wip of my 'scrybe' oc its a lil ugly rn tho but when im done they will be pretty

when i finish they will look more like a jester, anyways i think they will be the 'Scrybe' of tom-foolery. I keep putting Scrybe in quotes because they wont be... officially a scrybe. Like, they'll draw like a child on some cardboard or something, and just put the bags that they call packs around random areas everywhere. their sigils will be specific non-sense [I can't remember if theres already a card like this in game, but maybe one will be "this card's stats will mirror the card it opposes" so if you put it up against a card that has 3 heart 2 attack it will have 2 heart 3 attack]. The ONE THING that shall stay though is that every time you do more damage than needed to win and get proof of it they will draw a little smiley on the back of that card :)!!

Maybe they'll have a grave stone thingy in That Area too but it will be made of like clay or something. possibly considering their backstory being that it started as a joke between friends but it got serious and people actually used their cards seriously in battle, so while unnoficial between the ACTUAL scrybes everyone just accepted them. so like, during stuff like leshy's takeover there might be just like a small refference but i dont think there would be bonified stuff for them like actual scrybes [i.e. getting Carded or joining in the plot to kill p-03]

i imagine if they even would be in the intro it would be like "[Name] used supplies they bought from the store to create silly little cardboard cards" bc their whole deal is that they arent serious!! they just some person found on the street!!!!

I use Autodesk SketchBook. It’s 100% free, with the caveat that you’ll need is an Autodesk ID in order to log in. It’s missing a few of the features that Photoshop has (I miss masking/clipping masks) but it’s really good for sketching or less technically-involved painting once you learn the interface.

As for brushes, the ones I use are homemade:

The two on the left are pencils. The right one is some kind of smudgy charcoal thing and I’m still not sure what I was going for when I made it. (At least I’m fairly certain I made it. I don’t see it in any of the other sets I’ve downloaded.

PS, making brushes in SB is also stupidly easy, which is another reason I use it.)

When I do commissioned sketches I tend to just use the pencils. But when I’m just noodling around for myself like with the stuff I’ve posted in the last day, I just lay down a bunch of charcoal and then pick out where the lines should be and carve back into it with the pencil tools. Then I kind of touch up the shading with the charcoal. I like leaving things messy. Feels more natural to me. It doesn’t take any less time, but I enjoy myself more.

Well, first the tumblr news of the fur/ry tag being counted as nsfw but now no nsfw at all. I personally don't post nsfw content but i sure as hell love to consume it! This is really going to change the tumblr landscape and seems many are getting ready to jump ship. It's really upsetting. I don’t think my work will get affected although I’m already seeing so many posts of people getting their stuff flagged that are nowhere near nsfw. The whole thing is one giant mess. Just FYI I don’t have plans to leave tumblr (yet) but I'm not sure where this is going to go. So to be on the safe side, here are my other social media handles. I generally try to be up to date with all of them. At least with finished works. and especially with news about cons and whatnot. But I do use them a bit differently. So a quick rundown:

How to write a rough draft*

*for really long fics

Thanks to the marvels of modern technology, there are reams of time-lapsed YouTube vids of artists plying their craft, and every now and then I stumble across artist livestreams, where people can watch them as they work in real-time. For developing artists, I can only imagine how unbelievably helpful these are: you can get a pretty solid idea of how an experienced artist goes from concept sketch to finished product, with a click of a button. As a writer, I’d give my eyeteeth for a comparable resource.

Problem is, it’s really hard to show that process for a writer. There’s a post somewhere saying that the OP would like to offer livestreaming while they write, but it wouldn’t exactly be riveting material—just half an hour of a blinking cursor on a blank page. That post is both true and accurate, and it explains exactly why “in medias res” posts for writing are hard to come by.

But it also gave me an idea.

Like any writer, I have approximately one billion wips, all in various stages of completion, which I can use to illustrate how I get from idea to end. In other words, I’m gonna try to “livestream” my writing.

The first thing I do is Get An Idea. We all know how to do this, it’s practically hardwired into the species. It’s why fandom exists at all: a bunch of nerds loved a thing so much that they Got Ideas.

Step two is expanding on the Idea. For me, this happens in one of two ways: I word vomit in an empty doc, or I word vomit to a friend. Word vomiting to a friend is usually preferable; even if they aren’t in the fandom they can still tell you if an idea is worth exploring or if you’ve been sniffing the wrong glue.

Honestly, I doubt I need to show what this looks like, but here’s an example anyway, after I copy/pasted it into a doc:

This is one of very few extant examples of what these kinds of conversations look like, because once I move them into a doc they tend to get polished up/cannibalized/deleted in short order. The only reason this one hasn’t is because I doubt I’ll ever write it.

These convos are where I let my id run wild with tropes/plot points, character bios, headcanons, etc. It’s raw creativity and frankly, it’s the most rewarding part of the whole process. When I feel the Idea has been sufficiently fleshed out, I move it to a doc and begin making an outline (step three).

Now, my outlines are not complex documents. They’re a loose “sketch” where I lay out all my brainstorming in roughly chronological order: how I want the story to start, a general idea for how I want it to end, and a handful of major beats in the middle. A fairly typical outline looks like this one, for the Lucifer fandom:

With this particular case, I wrote out the scene summaries in roughly the order I imagined them. When I actually start writing, I’ll expand on each blurb until they’re all replaced and the story is done.

Here’s a before and after for what expanding those blurbs looks like, from a fic set in the Exorcist fandom. Before:

I suppose I’m more of a gardener writer than an architect writer. I outline, but I also make up a lot of stuff as I go. In the above example, I knew I wanted Tomás to be hospitalized, but I had no idea that he would hallucinate Mouse plucking out her eye—a callback to a conversation they had earlier—until I wrote it.

Then step four: you write.

As for how I, personally, write, I tend to conceptualize it as filming a scene. I imagine the setting, I populate it with the characters, and I keep track of where the “script” says it needs to go. Then I describe what I see/feel. If I’m not sure where to start describing, I reset the camera angle (close up on a character or establishing shot?) or move the script around (start with a line of dialogue? Change up POV?). I keep doing that until I find a combo that resonates, and then I start writing. That’s specific to me, though; part of learning how to write is learning how your brain conceptualizes things.

And that is basically all I do for oneshots. Word vomit, tidy the words into a semblance of order, expand. The shorter the fic, the quicker this process goes, and the nicer the finished rough draft looks. The longer and more complicated the fic, though, the uglier and uglier the rough draft gets.

I have a Clone Wars OC fic that is a really good example of this. It’s going to be a monster, and it’s the kind of fic that’s both hellish and a valuable learning experience. To illustrate, the very first blurb in the outline is 47 words long, but it took 12k words to cover all the events it mentions—and now that I’m 50k words into the draft, I’ve changed my mind about certain characterizations, worldbuilding details, and even some of the plot points. Eventually, that 12k is going to need to be rewritten, relocated, or deleted altogether, and there are times when that’s all I can think about. But I haven’t let myself go back to do it, yet. That’s what this project is teaching me: how to ignore the part of me that’s itching to fix things in favor of pushing through. I leave myself a note so I don’t forget, and I keep writing.

This is what people mean when they say that your rough draft should look shitty: you will have plot points hanging over your head that don’t work anymore, or don’t fit together quite right. It’s okay to temporarily abandon them! Your goal is to finish the draft. Follow your outline, and if you get stuck, skip to the next section:

That is some real-time Doppler radar of my frustration. The hardest part of writing is maintaining interest and momentum. There are certain scenes I want to write more than others; in this case, I got halfway through writing a battle, stared at the blinking cursor for about an hour while I wished I was writing a different scene, then decided “fuck it, I’ll get this in rewrites. Let’s skip to the part I know I can finish.” It broke the momentum of the story, but as far as the process of writing was concerned, it got me back on track. You can worry about how the story looks and reads later.

The downside of the “push it back till later and keep writing” mentality, though, is that eventually, something will jump up and bite you in the ass. I’m at that point in this fic: I can’t progress forward, because the research I deferred has suddenly become extremely necessary. In this case, I don’t know enough about the layout and structure of the star destroyers to develop a setting for my scene, or enough about how the clone vs nonclone crew interact with each other to determine the tone of the scene. Sometimes, you just have to stop and look something up and/or worldbuild before you can continue. When that happens, I prefer to look everything up and keep it handy in the doc, so I don’t have to waste time later combing through google. My research binge is still in the early stages, but this is what it currently looks like:

The bracketed bit at the top of the page is the scene I’m currently stalled on, and the bit at the very bottom is my next major scene (barring any spur-of-the-moment tangents). When I’ve fleshed out the worldbuilding sufficient to my needs, I’ll move the research to the bottom of the doc so I can reference it without it being in the way. Hopefully by then I’ll have figured out how I want the story to progress :P

Another point of interest: I keep all my notes-to-self in [brackets], so I can find them later. I write them everywhere. No stretch of writing is safe. I have them before chapters, after chapters, in the middle of sentences—anywhere a thought occurred to me, but I didn’t want to break momentum to figure out a place for it:

I love this exchange, but it’s only half-finished and I have no idea where to put it. Rather than waste time trying to figure out where it goes, I have it stowed at the bottom of the doc for safekeeping. I keep a lot of stuff there; when I finish the rough, I’ll find homes for it all. And if something doesn’t wind up with a forever home, I’ll either make it into deleted scene or toss it onto the scrap pile. C’est la vie.

If this were a real livestream there’d probably be a lot more in-the-moment information about word choice and, idk, sentence construction, which would really be helpful, but the trade-off is those half-hour stretches where I fuck off to tumblr because I don’t know what to write next. This is the next best thing :P

In conclusion: the rough draft is an extended period of screaming into the void while you throw down words into a doc. I’ve compared it to childbirth in slow-motion more than once, because it’s drawn-out, painful, and the only way out is through—and if you’re fortunate, you’ll end up with a squalling bundle of scrunched up pacing and half-grown themes looking at you to edit it into shape. It’s not an easy process, and it’s not always as rewarding as we’d hope. But I think we can all agree, as writers and readers, that it’s worth it.

My Friend has been Falsely Accused of Tracing So I Will Defend Him

Okay I accidentally deleted the blog I posted this one because I’m a dumbass, so I’ll just repost it here even though I don’t use this blog anymore, but apparently I still have followers. Bless caches because I was able to get this back from google caches so I don’t have to retype everything. I added further evidence and refutes to claims that were not in my original post btw.

Anyways, I am making this post to help out my good friend @5ru9 aka Falco who has been recently accused of tracing/copy pasting other people’s / official art!

I’ve known Falco for over 3 years, and we’ve grown as artists together. Once in a while we give each other advice on art (thanks for the mech and armor advice and teaching me how you line and color!), but most of the time we just meme each other.

Anyways, a lot of people have pointed out that they’ve seen him livestream before, and he’s already posted some of his block outs and other wips as proof that he does not trace in his post here:

To further prove his claim with solid evidence, I shall present to you!

Times he’s asked for advice on his art, or I randomly decided to mention things I notice in his WIPs!

Exhibit A-1:

A Tenkai Knight he made up! I pointed out a few things I thought were awkward about the perspective in his WIP.

He started working on this way back in July and didn’t finish it until much later because he was working on several other pieces at the same time. I suggested lowering the eyebrows and drawing the eyes a bit narrower to get more of the playful expression he was aiming for. In his final piece here, you can see that Falco continued to refine the piece.

By the way! The reason he sometimes posts a lot of detailed artworks one shortly after the other is because he sometimes works on multiple pieces at once! And then finishes coloring them around the same time.

Exhibit A-3

Falco and I spent good time trying to figure out why he felt like something was wrong with his sketch! I thought maybe it was the trapezius and I decided to red line (or blue line i guess) it so it’d be easier for him to see approximately where i thought the line should go to fix it.

The gif-ing process turned white bg into blue… anyways! Falco showed me an early version of his Tenkai Knights OC that he eventually used in an April Fool’s joke to pass off as a new character in the series. He mastered the tenkai style enough that at first glance, people really did believe it was official! Like you had to get a good look to realize Shiyu was not really a real new character! Btw I had to go into my old twitter acc to find this…. (Edit: the gif wasn’t working bc it was too big so i had to make it smaller… and choppier and stuff to fit the mb max)

Here you can see his progress from 2014 Tenkai fan art to early 2015! It starts looking more and more like the official art, which is what he was going for.

I blocked out fan art by everyone except falco (which i marked) that shows up in this google search. Everything else is official art. The two fan arts by falco you see here are more recent, the angel one being from 2016 and the chicken one from 2017 (i think he also made a version with sonic instead of the chicken? lol). They’re both on his dA accounts btw! The 2017 one really looks like official art, doesn’t it? But it’s his artwork! He practiced a LOT to reach that point, and I hope the earlier arts I showed above this one are enough to convince you in his art progression! Side note: i only used images w/ceylan because 1. i’m biased because ceylan is my favorite character and 2. he drew ceylan a lot because ceylan is his favorite character Also you can see his handle change from s3iwashi to burningbraven. 5ru9 is is a pretty recent handle.

ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN IN THE TENKAI FANDOM FOR A WHILE CAN VOUCH FOR HIM!!!!!

Exhibit C

WHAT? WHO IS THIS???

This is my favorite character from a Chinese series called AOTU World! His name is Grey, or 格瑞。I commissioned Falco to draw Grey for me, and let me tell you it would be IMPOSSIBLE for him to have copied any of this. Why? Because the donghua is 3D and the manhua’s art is very inconsistent!

Let me show you the reference pictures I gave him to work with!

This is all official art from the manhua, except the 3D model is from the donghua. Look at how inconsistent the references are! There’s no way he could have copy and pasted or traced this! Grey doesn’t even do this particular pose anywhere. lol. I told Falco “give him a cool sword pose”. (I’m sorry for being so vague, Falco! But it turned out great!!) The style he ended up drawing in was a mixture of all of them.

Btw!! here’s the blockout and the sketch he sent me before I sent my payment for the commission!! You can see his construction in the block out!! The arm construction and leg construction is light, but it’s there. You can also see the block out below the sketch. Notice he actually fixed the leg length from block out -> sketch?

ARGUMENTS AGAINST SPECIFIC ACCUSATIONS

LOOK, thte actual drawing doesn’t even match the sprites that closely. Pay attention to the collar especially. The whole frankensteining the image and then painting over it thing is just way more effort than drawing it himself. They don’t even match that well in the overlays. Like wow it’s such a crime to try and stay on model.

WHO WOULD EVEN NEED TO TRACE A MOUTH LIKE THAT? IT’S SO EASY TO DRAW. I CAN DRAW IT PERFECTLY JUST BY LOOKING AT IT. (well i AM an animator so I also do style mimicking)

Doesn’t the fact that you have to edit the sprites to match his artwork prove that you’re just a tryhard in making up fake evidence and not a tryhard enough at art since you think it’s so impossible for people to draw characters on model?

Yes he referenced the broom and possibly the heels from this image, but your overlays for the leg and arms are disingenuous and you know it. The leg positions are different, and the overlay doesn’t even match up. Face tracing also makes no sense. You literally stretched the mouth to try and make it fit but it still doesn’t fit. Do you really think it’s that hard to draw mouths and eyes in the DR style? DR faces are really simple to emulate. Also you fool, if you follow Falco’s artwork enough, you’d realize the way he draws bodies is actually rather consistent even as he does different styles. Especially when it comes to hands. His way of drawing hands is how I recognize his art and know right away it’s his art and not official art or a trace (also his coloring style). The heels he drew are also reminiscient of how he typically draws shoes/feet. he draws them bulkier. The other art has dainty heels. At most he referenced how backside works because he’s used to drawing sneakers.

Also come on, if all you referenced from an image was a broom because you liked the style (his is also clearly drawn by himself since you can’t overlay it on the other one. like i said he mostly used the style as a reference for how-to-broom) and you referenced pieces from many other images, are you going to list every single thing you referenced? While yeah it’d be nice to, it’s a little ridiculous to expect all 5-20 references whenever they post the image. It’s a thing where, if someone asks, you’d tell them, but it’s too much to list all of it. This isn’t a 20 page thesis.

If it’s such a crime, then holy shit sue all those people who parody other people’s comics and sue everyone who dares!!! to ever draw something remotely similar to someone else. Dang.

Art doesn’t live in a vacuum.

Okay, this one is just plain stupid. You distorted the sprite to match it up with his, but what would be the point for him to distort it just to trace? Also if he traced, can you explain the rest of the fingers that are drawn nicely but clearly different from the sprite? Also the thumbs don’t even match up. His faces more downward while the sprite is facing more forward. Also explain the turned body in Falco’s sketch, then!! And the hair! OH WAIT YOU CAN’T EXPLAIN IT BY ANY OTHER WAY THAN HE DREW IT HIMSELF!!! BECAUSE NO SPRITES MATCH IT AND YOU CAN’T FIND ANY SPRITES TO DISTORT ENOUGH TO EVEN GET CLOSE TO MAKING FAKE EVIDENCE FOR IT.

By the way, the style he drew it in is closer to the drv3 than this sprite. while it’s pretty much the same style as the older games, drv3′s art is more refined than the older games. Falco’s art is also more refined as you can see. (wow not only did falco’s art improved from back when we first met; even professional artists improve. shocker. /s)

Dude what the hell? The overlays don’t even match up even ifi you tried to frankenstein them. And these are really common poses at really common angles, and once again, must every single thing we reference from be listed in the description of every place we post an image? Let me just list all 30 videos and 50 images i used as reference for one of my prints. jfc.

As for the saihara animation based on the digimon opening animation? It was pretty clear to everyone that it’s some kind of parody. Many people when making parody animations don’t mention the original video either?? It’s a fun thing for fans of the franchise to recognize the reference themselves. Yes he could have said it was the digimon opening on the description, but at least he didn’t say he thought of the idea himself? And if you talk to him about the animation, he will openly tell you it’s from digimon. And the fact that you think it’s a trace despite how much the overlays do NOT work out is practically proof that you’re just doing this maliciously and hoping that saying he traces enough with shoddy evidence will make people believe you.

ALSO PEOPLE LITERALLY TRACE ANIMATIONS TO MAKE PARODIES OF, DOWN THE STYLE WHERE ALL THEY CHANGE IS THE HAIR AND OUTFIT, AND YET SOMETHING WITH DIFFERENCES EVEN DOWN TO THE STYLE LIKE THIS IS SOMETHING YOU THINK IS A TRACE? Do you need a new pair of glasses?

I was gonna ignore this one because it was the same as a lot of the others, but you literally erased Falco’s face line so it would match the sprite, and you covered the bigger boobs Falco gave her, and totally ignored that the angle doesn’t even match properly. Like you covered parts of his sketch in your overlay just to make it look more like it matches, but if you actually fucking overlayed it correctly, even with squashing it, it won’t fit. (Also sorry to point this out Falco, but the circles on your goggle lenses are too small compared to the sprite; Maybe if you actually traced like this person claims you’re doing, they’d be perfectly like the sprite. OH BUT WAIT YOU DREW IT YOURSELF SO OF COURSE THERE’S SOME DIFFERENCES. JUST LIKE HOW EVEN THOUGH ALL YOUR OTHER WORKS ARE REALLY CLOSE TO THE STYLE AND PRETTY MUCH ON MODEL, THEY’RE NOT EXACTLY THE SAME WITH THE SPRITES! SHOCKER...!)

HOLY FUCK. I already pointed out and gave evidence that Falco started on the Nier Automata drawing waaaaaaay before he posted the actual picture. The 2 sketches are sketches! They don’t take a super long time. I busted out 10 inktobers in 1 day. (thumbnails of my artwork below)

Look I even even lined and colored 5 fairly detailed chibis in 1 day (i did the sketches earlier though. btw i hand drew the plaid on ray. it was annoying)

At the moment I have 5 wips. They’ll likely all be done around the same time. I know Falco often has multiple wips as well, and sometimes he also finishes some of them close to each other. Some artists (like my friend Fish) can pump out extremely detailed paintings in less than a day. WOW some artists can draw at a fairly fast rate. WHO KNEW? (manga artists in weekly magazines pump out 15-20 pages of manga in a week)

He’s still developing a style; he’s mostly doing style mimics of series he likes in the mean time.

At the moment he’s mostly experimenting with the drv3 style, but he was practicing p5 earlier. By the way, he DESIGNED a phantom outfit for mishima. Who the heck would he copy that from? He made it up because he loved mishima and wanted to make him part of the gang in some AU fan art. Mishima doesn’t have artwork like this for him to trace, so it should be obvious it’s his own work.

And the pokemon and crash bandicoot ones are actually not that close. The pokemon one looks like a good attempt at imitating the pokemon style, but since he hasn’t practiced it enough, you can tell it’s a little off model because, well, he drew it himself and doesn’t practice the pokemon style a lot. Same with the crash one. Had it been a trace, with his level of control over his lines (which you can’t refute), it would have been much closer.

And you act like it’s a crime to imitate others’ art style. It’s really not. What is wrong with you? Do you want to slow down animation production by only letting the character designer draw everything? Or do you want animation where the art has 0 semblance of consistency because all the artists draw in vastly different styles? lol. What do you have against artists that try to stay on model?

LOL THIS IS ONE IS SO STUPID WHERE DO I EVEN START?

Oh, I KNOW. Why don’t I do that same pose with my own hands?

IT’S A MIDDLE FINGER, YOU IDIOT.

Just because YOU don’t know basic anatomy and can’t tell a middle finger from a pinky, doesn’t mean everyone else is as incompetent as you. He wasn’t doing the rock-on hand pose (sry idk if that pose actually has a name lol), and he’s drawn the rock-on hand pose properly before.

Closing statement

I believe I covered a lot of things and provided a lot of evidence here that Falco and his other friends did not cover in his defense against the false accusations.

I even added more counter arguments in this repost because apparently my original post wasn’t enough to convince people.

Perhaps the person calling him out meant well (no, I doubt it because they made a new side blog just to diss him because they knew if they did it on their actual blog, they’d be called out for being a jerk), but they did not do enough digging to find out if their claims were true or not (and they probably know well enough that they MADE UP THEIR EVIDENCE).

If you’re going to make a call out post, please make triple sure sure of everything before you accuse people. Talk to them first. Talk to those who know them too.

Many jobs require you to be able to draw characters exactly in the style given. Animators for example! There are multiple animators working on one series, and they all need the skill to draw consistently! Some games also have teams that need to be able to draw in the same style so they don’t have to leave everything up to one person. Comic artists often have assistants that help them draw background characters, but those background characters can’t be too different from the main style either.

As for the people who believed the call out post before, it’s perfectly understandable. I am also guilty of falling for similar posts in the past. Due to that, I decided it was best to double check before retweeting (i say retweet because i use twitter far more than tumblr these days. heck i almost never post anything on this blog) things, and if i wasn’t sure, I would just leave it be.

I hope my post was able to convince you on Falco’s innocence and all his hard work. And if you already believed him but checked out this post anyways… Thanks! ObligatoryPleaseWatchAotuWorld.

Art does NOT exist in a vacuum. All artists are influenced by each other and MANY artists, especially professionals, use a lot of references, whether it be from photographers, their own pictures, others’ artwork, life, or whatever. We all use many different resources. If you’re going to say that’s wrong, you just dismissed millions of artists in the world.

so anyways firstly . those were just the intro pragaraphs im finally getting into my loving sejung essay :(( helloooo one of my favortie things about talking to you is how easily the conversation always flows ….us talking about shownus asshole and the questionable consumption of expired jello and orbeez at 3 am is most likely the more demonic things weve done while simultaenously being the more tame things…my head still aches when i remember that giagntic bruise i got from looking at that wonho+tentacles/changkyun+black hole sketch u made… god we somehow always go from topic to topic with absolutely no regard for cohesiveness and yet neither of us ever question it…we’ll spend hours discussing absolutely nothing …like that one night we stayed up for like three hours on rabbit talking about all the different mx stans and which member has the most stans internationally versus domestically and why….icons of developing complex sociocultural theories at 2am while occasionally mentioning “oh wow its late u should go to bed >:/” god its just that I always lose track of time whenever I talk to you…its like im so focused on that I Love Her mood that I don’t even realize its been 4 hours until I look down at my pile of unfinished homework and then back up at my laptop like. An over stuffed pencil case full of multiple pencils, inking pens, grey markers and an ever changing line up of erasers

My battered old Wallet, with its many many club cards, my glasses wipes, my donor card, ID and not very much money. It’s less a wallet and more a carry case at this point

Charging cables and spare battery(s), I like to always be accessible since I'm usually the one my family calls first and the idea of not being able to get help in emergencies makes me nervy

My sketchbook, I take it with me wherever I can, and if I'm bothering to take my backpack somewhere its certainly coming with me

Headphones, if they aren't in my pocket they’re in my bag, I like to listen to music whenever I can

All my assorted range of art supplies, from acrylics to polymer clays, its all in here because I don't trust my brother with any of it

My millennial cliche succulent garden, they live on my window sill, they all have names, and I love them.

Fans, I have one ceiling and one desk fan, and from spring to early autumn a pillar fan too, because I over heat ridiculously fast

Many posters and frames(Including an awesome art deco Ironman frame is still need to hand but have been putting off till I can get the cap counterpart), I display my nerdy loves like the exhibitionist I am

My big box o’ comics, my whole collection just about fits into a big cardboard box beneath my desk is have a constant brother watch over, its my own personal dragons hoard dammit.

Talking, as is no doubt obvious, I love to talk, get me going and I will not shut up, I like to be passionate and I'm blessed with so many friends who let me ramble till I tire myself out and then keep talking to me after

On the same vein as above, Replying to things; Comments on posts, Asks, or just online conversation, I enjoy it so much, Someone asked me about one of my Ults HC’s on twitter the other day and let me go on about it for 2 hours and even if we never talk again I’m a little in love with them for that alone.

Reading tags, sort of falls in with above, but reading tags makes me gooey n happy

Coffee, I’m addicted to the stuff and I love it.

Finally getting time to work on ideas, I have so many and theres not enough time in existence to get them all down

SteveTony, feels like a cop out answer, so wishing S/T I’m currently reading To The Victor, and despite being someone who doesn't cry at fiction easy, this has had me on the verge or tears more times than I can count

The Adventure Zone / MBMBAM, after watching a couple people I follow whether the finale, I got into it, and god is it good, I'm a couple episodes from the ending and desperate for it not to be over

Last Week Tonight With John Oliver: I don't know if this counts as a thing I'm “into” but its the only thing I watch on TV really anymore, I'm too busy to sit down with TV anymore but i’ll make time for this

I’m reading through The Ultimates, I found a way to get my hands on them and I'm making it my main reading quest, which is why I won't shut up about it ever

Uh I’ve run out of things, does school count? I’m so busy with it I barely have time to sleep, but I love this foundation course so much.

A hush hush super secret time sensitive project, more will be revealed soooooon

STH, I feel awful about how long this is taking, but I'm just about finished with the sketch for one and the planning for another, once the sketches are down I can finish it inside or 2 days, but its getting the time to flesh the sketch out thats making it take so long, apologies to both my auction winners!

Floomies, Ferret and I finished writing book 2 a couple days ago and we’re taking a short break before diving into the edit and filling in more little bits of the series we have planned. With all accounts we might be posting into April next year or even longer.

College work, there’s a lot of it and its perpetually on my to do list

Multiple comics! some 1 page short and some up to 10 pages long, some written and scripted and some just sketchy baby ideas, I have so many its stupid and I want to draw them allllllll, comics about Ults, comics about tony and the multiverse, comics about Riri, about steve and moreeee, I have a lot of plans and no time

This doesn't begin to cover my WIP list and ideas hutch, I’m stocked with ideas for years
