What’s your all time favourite Upstead moment/scene?

Dude... there's so many! But to this day, my favorite Upstead scene is the ending of 6x07. "The thing that works". It's so iconic. It was one of the earliest moments in their friendship/partnership where we see them trusting each other. Jay, someone who rarely talks about his military past, trusted Hailey and told her what was going on. He trusted her with something so dark and emotional from his past, something he had never told another friend/partner.

And Hailey knew what to say, how to respond. That's how soulmates work. They just get each other.

Ughh S6 Upstead was just superior. They weren't even together, but they still managed to capture our hearts. ❤️

You know what, I was just minding my own business but that stupid fucking person has really pissed me off, so I'm just gonna bitch for a while because upstead stans are the fucking worse and have literally been saying insane shit for over a year now.

putting this under a cut tho for my lovely mutuals who are upstead fans who are not part of the crazies and I don't wish for them to have to see my extreme bitchy and pettiness.

"Gwen Sigan doesn't believe that two ships can be happy at the same time" - yeah it's called have you fucking ever watched pd? LITERALLY been happening from the start it's not even unique to Sigan. This also really pisses me off because when I complained about Eid not believing in two ships being happy at once it was 'stop being dramatic' 'it makes for good tv' and, my absolute fucking favourite, 'burzek are just too toxic/traumtised for each other".

Oh but when your ship marries out of trauma (thank you gwen for pointing that out) and who's whole relationship was still very new and tested so frequently compared to ten years of loving, hurting and growing, it's oh no sigan is a shit writer.

There's also the fact that JESSE LEFT. I don't think there's any reason why Sigan shouldn't have re-written the divorce plans set from last season, and built up a happy upstead ending now we're also losing Tracy, but with Jesse gone, 'two ships can't be happy at once' CANNOT literally apply, because one half is gone, so it's no longer a viable plot point to the writers' perspective.

It's also not lost on me that upstead stans worshipped Sigan until Jesse left. 'Sigan didn't give upstead a chance' No, upstead stans didn't give her a chance. Which, granted, they shouldn't have to. If half of your ship leaves, it's perfectly valid to stop watching. But they evaluate sigan like they're fucking unbiased and not that they made up their minds about her as soon as the news hit.

(and that's not even talking about how before the news hit they were saying the 200th episode should be upstead focused, but upstead is broken and suddenly it's it should be about everyone).

And the marriage WAS born out of trauma. They had also barely been dating - it doesn't matter if you've been friends first, a relationship is different. And then they immediately went through A LOT at work, and they hadn't even been in the relationship long enough to learn how it would affect it, long-term.

"They're giving us burzek/burzek wedding to distract from upstead" get fucking over yourself.

"Sigan should admit she hates upstead/hates that the actors left" high talk from people who can't even fucking admit their ship is not the end all or be all of cpd. That they've been faced with the reality that upstead doesn't make or carry the show, like they've been delusionally believing. And that upstead is NO WHERE near the most iconic ship of the show.

Honestly, half the time these fucking people make me wish that Hailey is written out through a death/ or the linsteads get what they want - an off-screen reunion - even though my baby erin doesn't deserve that just to fucking spite them and I would HATE if that happened, but spite is a powerful thing.

Hallelujah!!!!! Shay have been known as the Upstead freak for years and thanks to them the Upstead fandom has such a bad reputation. Your group of friends treated them like a fucking twitter icon, Upstead’s owner and some other embarrassing shit, protecting and allowing them to say the most vile arrogant shit times and times again (their dozen twitter accounts are the proof) meanwhile we were all in the known of what a horrible person they are and yall had the audacity to gaslight us and making us feel like we were in the wrong. Thank god your eyes are finally open now!

Listen, I’ll be the first to admit that Shay has said some fucked up shit and started plenty of drama in fandoms, but gloating about a situation like this, and then apologizing for it as an afterthought isn’t quite the take you think it is right now.

We’ve been lied to and manipulated for years by a zionist freak who is applauding and encouraging genocide, who made themselves out to be a victim of that genocide, ghosted us for months, and we only just found out hours ago. There were times where we thought they were dead. A person we trusted, confided in, and who has personal information about many of us has pulled the wool over our eyes, and you have no idea how disgusted and betrayed we all feel for befriending and defending them all these years. We’re all absolutely gutted and feeling pretty damn ashamed right now. You don’t need to make us feel any worse than we already do.

Yes it was really from the episode, but for some reason it had been cut from the episode. I think we saw it in a promo for the episode, then it aired, and no hug. What I would give to see the extra footage from some of the iconic upstead episodes. Actually, there are a lot of extra footage I would like to see from every character. And the ungodly amount of money I'd throw to see their blooper reels.

my two fave shows & their new season posters:

chicago pd season 10 + the rookie season 5

vibes: 🧊 = chicago pd and 🔥 = the rookie

Similarities include:

both feature new characters who have gone from recurring to regular (benjamin & tru)

both have a varied size for cast members - some larger presence (unfortunately), some smaller

both have a strong female detective front and center of the poster!! (hailey & angela)

both ironically have a 3 word logo line (strength in family; answer the call)

and perhaps the most important one TO ME: both my fave ships are next to each other - upstead + chenford

the only difference I can find is that since Wopez doesn’t appear on the poster (Angela does, Wesley does not) then I can’t make a parallel between my fave ships from each show being on the posters together 😕

also: I included 5 other poster possibilities in the 2 collages because no offense to Hank Voight and John Nolan but their heads don’t need to be any bigger, you know? 🥴 besides, the trios/duos/groups are iconic!! ⬇️

OMG thank you!! I’ve loved the reactions to it & I’m obsessed with these questions!! Again, shout out to the lovely gif makers for these beautiful visuals with my answers!!🫶🏼

1. The Iconic White Sweater | 6x03: putting out a BOLO for this sweater. I miss it. It needs to make a comeback asap. Super cute, super flattering, and she was also bronzed and glowing this ep which made the whole look even better. Like LOOK AT HER!!

2. Blue Hoodie/Low Ponytail | 9x13: my sweet little baby was so sad in the micro-scene that we got this look, but she was so damn pretty regardless. Need the hair dept to do her hair like this again. I also wouldn’t mind seeing this hoodie again without the coat (though I did love the combo).

3. Black Leather Jacket | 6x09+ etc: the leather jacket is forever and always a YES from me. I loved this black on black look, but any other leather jacket fit is just as praiseworthy.

do you think we can hope that gwen will bring down peace to us upstead fans and jesse's departure and possibly tracy's departure from upstead in the end?

At this point, S10 being Tracy's last season is very 50/50. There are some signs that make us think that it could be her last season, such as it's her final year in her contract. But at the same time, we have to think, what if this isn't Jesse's final goodbye. What if we see him back on our screens again?

Ever since the news of Jesse's directorial debut was released, I can't stop wondering, what if Jesse really did want to direct episodes. So what if he and his team decided to take a year off of acting to learn the ropes of directing. And once he has done his directorial debut, he comes back as Jay Halstead. Many actors are now directing on the same show they act in. So what if this is just Jesse's way of doing it.

We won't know more until the S10 finale when the 8 months time period is met. We won't know if Jesse returns for good or if Tracy leaves until the end of this season. We also most likely won't know the fate of Upstead until towards the end of the season.

As of now, my gut is telling me Upstead will be fine. There hasn't been anything major storyline-wise that makes me concerned for Upstead's future. But again, the fate of Upstead is up to Gwen. And I have a very tiny sliver of hope that she won't ruin this iconic ship, especially since majority of Upstead's relationship has been written and formed by Gwen. Would she really want to throw away 5 years of her writing?

At this point, all we can do is be patient and hope for the best! 💙

6x02:

The ENTIRETY of this episode is ✨CHEF’S KISS✨

Hailey suggesting Jay should sit out on the case…Jay snapping at Hailey, “I’m sorry my heart doesn’t bleed like yours” and then the immediate look of regret that flashes over his face…

When Jay goes with Hailey and Adam to question one of the suspect’s sons and Hailey has to hold Jay back… 🥵🥵

Jay snapping at Hailey AGAIN when Voight benches him… “You’re just projecting whatever daddy-daughter crap got you screwed up.” I think all our hearts broke with that scene.

THE ENDING?? Hailey rushing towards Jay thinking he was shot, pulling open his shirt and checking his vest…the way she cradles his head… SWOON

Their little scene at the back of the ambulance…the relief on Hailey’s face and the guilt on Jay’s, and then that little touch Hailey gives of his knee… 🥺

And then… *sigh* Hailey saying “I thought he was dead” as her and Adam are walking off because SHE HAS FEELINGS FOR JAY AND THOUGHT SHE HAD LOST HIM. Dead. Gone. Goodbye.

6x06:

Jay and Hailey talking about the case at her house…Adam shows up and after he leaves, Jay makes the comment “I hope he doesn’t think you and I are…” and then the workplace romance comment. THE WAY I STILL SQUEAL OVER THAT LINE AND THE LOOK ON THOSE IDIOTS’ FACES 🥰

Also in the truck when Jay checks in on Hailey and assures her she did it right…the way they showed how much he cares about her in that 30 second scene is everything.

6x07:

When Hailey and Jay go into the house and he has a PTSD moment thinking it’s a bomb under the woman’s burqa, but it’s a baby instead. How Hailey is so soft with him when they’re talking afterwards and says “You’re not in Afghanistan anymore.”

The ending scene and the thing that works… 💗

6x10:

Hailey apologizes to Jay for not telling him about her and Adam. Jay says, “We’re good and we’re always gonna be good.”

6x12:

This episode was full of worried Hailey and it was wonderful, but that ending scene between her and Jay at the bar… the look in their eyes that just tells you they feel something more between them. When Jay asks her if it’s Adam calling her and tells her she should go, you can see the hesitation on her face…the look on his that says he wants to ask her to stay. Ughhhh. The way they communicate with their eyes alone should be a required element of all ships. No one is doing it like them.

6x14:

When Hailey returns to the bullpen, Jay immediately stands up and when he sits back down there’s a moment where we see the concern for her and the guilt he feels written on his face. It’s just a few seconds, but it’s so good.

6x15:

There are four moments in this episode where Hailey and Jay share a look between them and communicate only with their eyes. *happy sigh*

Hailey and Jay talk in the viewing room and he asks her why she backed him. She says he looked at her and she got it, then says the iconic line, “I’ve trusted you from the day I met you, and if I was gonna follow someone blind it, it’d be you.”

6x22:

Jay tells Hailey, “I’m going where you go.”

THE. VAN. SCENE. If that scene isn’t one of your favorite pre-canon Upstead moments, then sorry, but you’re so wrong for that. The way Jay covers her body with his, reaches for a Kevlar vest to protect her instead of himself. That man really has loved her for YEARS. 😭

And then the break room scene…their first almost love confession…

Hailey says, “Kelton is who he is…his time for reckoning is coming” and Jay responds with “Yeah, but not in time for this unit…for us.” Hailey tells him, “We’ve only been partners a couple years. You’ll forget about me just fine.”

Jay breathes out her name and kinda shakes his head, and she says they’ll be alright. They share a look and it’s very obvious there are feelings between the two of them. Goddddd. The chemistry is so palpable between them. ❤️

Season six truly is the superior pre-canon Upstead season and I will never not swoon over it. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
