I don't mind it but I thought I should let you know that there's some sort of error in the tags of a few of the posts you've made today. (It might be just me though)

The [caption] thing? It’s not an error, it’s some accessibility thing that I’ve been asked to do for months but kept forgetting. Sometimes the text is hard to read or people want to translate it. I’d use tumblr’s built in captioning but that only works on photosets and not single image posts, unless I’m missing something.

Hey Cass! I have a question for you if you don't mind: With 60% of songs today being about romance, how do you relate to music and lyrics as an aro/ace? Just curious

OMG that’s a really good question…

You’re certainly right; looking at my phone, which contains at least 20GB of music (i have a 64gig micro sd card in it for specifically that purpose lol), well over half of it is about romance. Heartbreak, love songs, a whole lot of ‘i can’t live without yous’ and ‘i’ll do anything if you take me backs’.

I don’t personally relate to any of it. I can’t listen to songs with the lines like “when you’re gone, how can i even try to go on” or “i can’t live without your love affection, i can’t face another night on my own” and have any personal reference points. The idea that you would be unable to have a night by yourself seems rather absurd to me, honestly. The idea that your existence is defined by another human being, in that way, is strange. (i’m pretty sure you could live just fine- you won’t like it, but it’s physically very possible).

But while I don’t understand those specific thoughts personally, I can relate to raw emotion. Things like despair, heartache, sadness, feeling lost, feeling alone, emptiness- all very common themes in these romance songs, and while I’ve never felt them in the frame of romance, I’ve certainly felt them for other reasons. Honestly it would be ironic that Phil Colins is one of my favorite musicians and songwriters, except for the part where his work has so much raw emotion in it, and that’s what draws me in.

As for straight up love songs (I’m thinking of more than words by extreme or paradise by tesla) are usually more about being uplifting (this is great this person is so happy about this other person) but it’s sort of an outsider’s view. Some of them I can apply to non-romantic love, just like I can apply some heartbreak songs to non-romantic breakups. (friends do ‘breakup’ or just sorta… stop being friends and it sucks).

So yeah. I relate to them in an abstract sorta “oh yeah it’s that romance thing everyone else gets but me” but also, the emotions behind them, aside from all this specific romance stuff, can be applied to my life in general, and that’s where I end up doing most of my relating.

Sexual songs, I do not at all relate to and being somewhat sex averse, I really don’t tend to enjoy them at all.

On a side note, now that I think about it, it is kinda interesting that my favorite band didn’t really do much in the way of love songs…

How long have you been writing? Do you do any for profit, or just for fun?

since I discovered WordPad on my battered computer when I was like, 7, to be honest. though I actually got.... tolerable at age 14 or so.

and no, not yet, alas, unles I start a patreon or something in the (unlikely) event that people like me babbling about creepy magical girls enough to throw money at me. I’d like to get published, though!
