Books of 2024: ADHD FOR SMART ASS WOMEN: HOW TO FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR NEURODIVERGENT BRAIN by Tracy Otsuka.
I saw this on a new release promotional email and thought "well shit, that looks like my life, I should Investigate That™," only to realize it was a brand new hardback and I didn't want to pay $29 for 200 pages of information. Since I found out about it on release day, my next thought was, "Oh, I can check and see if my library has any copies!! We love supporting our libraries in this house!!"
Reader: They did Not.
But! I did find the "request a book" option on their website, and I entered this book, and I got a robocall within a week saying my hold was ready to be picked up! Y'all!! The library literally ordered this book for me (it was stamped into circulation one (1) day before they called me!), and now I have it to read! I love libraries!!
(book pic featuring the super cute coaster set @asexualbookbird made me that I love with my entire heart!!)

🪞 Fallen angel... who do you see staring back from the Mirror? 🪞
(ID: Kirby series fanart of Galacta Knight and my personal interpretation of his Mirror World counterpart. GK hovers above facing slightly to our left, his feathery wings spread wide, shaded in lilac and tipped with gilded wing talons, a swallow-like tail visible. He holds his shield forward in his left hand (our right) and his lance to the side in his right (our left), a single magenta eye leering at the viewer through the visor of his mask. A halo of heart spears floats and shines angelically behind his horns. Below him, M!GK hovers in the same pose but flipped horizontally and without the halo. Visually, M!GK has mostly the same features as GK, with his color palette being darker and less saturated (dusty purple body, dark gray armor, gray mask, maroon lance, rose-gold horns and weapons accents). His eyes are not visible in the shadow of his mask, but there are signs of erosion running down the metal surface in rusty orange lines, almost like tear tracks. Instead of feathery wings, M!GK has wings composed of jagged shards of pink crystal, glittering and lit from within by a luminous glow. A few pale feathers can still be seen peeking out from his back. END ID.)
Hey, so... what if... I went a little insane for a minute? What if I just... concepted a character... for the sequel... to an AU... I've told no one about... and haven't even finished writing yet? What if I then... pulled the salt shaker labeled "ANGST" out of the pantry and just... unscrewed the cap all over this poor lad? Oh, and Galacta Knight's here, too, I guess.
Sketch started 02/21/24, render started 03/01/24, finished 03/06/24.

falin's harpy form is Bangin. as i'm sure everyone is already aware. i'm sure everyone who's been telling me to read dungeon meshi has been waiting with bated breath for me to discover just how bangin falin's harpy form is, so rest assured: Wowza. I'd Like To Thank The Academy,
anyway. i'm pretty sure too much plot and drama and murder-horror is gonna get in the way for this to happen, but there's a canon divergence in my head where falin and laois get into a huge shouting match not long after this high-stakes harpy fight because laois is like "if you hadn't saved me then I'D be the one with the sickass harpy form, i can't believe you let yourself get eaten and you DON'T EVEN HAVE A VORE KINK" and falin is like "......YOU ARE AN INSANE PERSON??? I'D TELL YOU TO GO TO HELL IF YOU WOULDN'T THINK IT'S HEAVEN.....??"

finally saw Dune Part 2 again and decided to keep track of when/if characters' names are said on-screen for the first time. in order:
Leto Atreides - right away in Irulan's opening monologue
Rabban - early on, addressed as "Lord Rabban" by underlings. his first name is never said and iirc he's never directly referred to as a Harkonnen either.
Jamis - once the Fremen bring his body into the sietch, multiple people exclaim his name, including several subtitled lines in their language ("You killed Jamis!")
Stilgar - shortly upon returning to the sietch, in council with the elders. his name is said often compared to other characters, possibly the most frequently in the film?
Paul - approximately 30 minutes into the film, addressed by Jessica once she wakes up after her Water of Life ordeal
Chani - approximately 40 minutes in, called out by Paul during the Fremen attack on Harkonnen harvester scene
(Usúl and Muad'Dib - in quick succession during Paul's naming scene after the successful attack, approximately 45 minutes in)
(Sihaya - in the following scene)
(Paul Atreides - by Irulan to the Reverend Mother Helen Mohiam, approximately 1 hour 10 minutes in)
Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen - during Irulan's discussion with Mohiam, approximately 1 hour 10 minutes in
Vladimir Harkonnen - subtitled announcer's dialogue in the Harkonnen language, approximately 1 hour 15 minutes in
Lady Fenring - addressed by the other Bene Gesserit in the same scene, introduces herself as Lady Margot Fenring to Feyd-Rautha in the next scene (approximately 1 hour 20 minutes in)
Gurney Halleck - addressed by his full name by Paul in the scene after their reunion, approximately 1 hour 30 minutes in
That's it! I originally wanted to track this because I noticed the name of Chani's friend is never said and I had to learn it from the credits. But it is interesting how many important characters get called by name so late into the story, or not at all.
Some characters whose name is never spoken on-screen:
Jessica (!) - addressed as "mother", "Reverend Mother", "woman" (by Stilgar early on)
Alia - only addressed as "sister" by Paul. Jessica never calls her anything in particular. I guess she doesn't need to with their psychic link.
Irulan (!) - she takes part in many conversations but is rarely addressed herself. the Emperor simply calls her "daughter". she is referred to but never by name.
Shaddam IV - only ever called "the Emperor", by an honorific, or as Irulan's father.
Helen Mohiam - similar situation, called by her title.
Shishakli - she and Chani speak a lot but never call each other by name.
