TOTK Trailer 3 Analysis
Alright, let's do this. There was a whole lot in this trailer, and just so you know i'm not going to be dissecting every second or everything that made me go 'oh cool!' Like, the rocket is way cool but I won't be providing a picture. Anyway, without further ado, here we go!
Tumblr media
I really liked seeing the little robot guys doing stuff on the island, especially this little one fending off a chuchu :D I think it adds a lot to the understanding of the role of these robots
Tumblr media
Not sure what's up with all the mushroom stuff but I love it! I like seeing that the villages are going to be changed :D
Tumblr media
Yay, settlements! People trying to move into this area! A shame that the castle is gone now. I also really like the birds on the old fountains.
Tumblr media
Big round rock is very interesting. It reminds me of the speed boost things in skyward sword, so that's my theory on what this one does.
Tumblr media
Big thing rising from the Gerudo desert. It's probably going to end up just being Ganondorf's castle, but I really hope it's Arbiter's Grounds because that place horrifies and fascinates me.
Tumblr media
Presumably a back shot of Ganondorf, and I gotta say I love his hair all glowing and crazy like that. He seems to be watching something explode, but I'm not sure what? Baby theory with the only proof of 'idk it'd make a modicum of sense', maybe it's the great plateau he's destroying?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Putting these two together since they seem to go together - ways to get below ground? Very interesting. Not psyched about having to wear the lame lava armor again, though. (and when I say go together, I realize this is probably an underground cavern in the Eldin area and not in Lanayru)
Tumblr media
Flying ship flying ship let's go!!! Looks way cool and makes me wonder who is manning it. Robots? Monsters? The Zonai???
Tumblr media
Floating balls of water are cool, but more than anything make me wonder if there will be a better swimming mechanic, maybe even diving?
Tumblr media
Mostly took this picture because I like the red bird outfit Link is wearing. Presumably it'll slow his fall more than other clothes, but I also like the reference to the crimson loftwing.
Tumblr media
Finally, the being we've been seeing on the wall carvings and ruins. What's her deal? Is this what all Zonai look like? She looks rad that's for sure. I've heard some people say she looks like a lizard, but personally I think she looks more like the three dragons.
Tumblr media
At first, this is kind of a boring shot, until I remembered that Hyrule castle probably was very much destroyed in the final battle of BotW. Was it repaired? By the little magic sparkles around, I'd guess either Zelda is repairing it with magic, or this is some kind of memory.
Tumblr media
Finally, the girl. Strange dais she's standing in front of, I'm so worried for her.
Tumblr media
The Baby! Teba really said 'I'm too old for this shit' and is having his baby fill in for him! Rip Teba you were, well, a normal guy opposed to all the other champions. Here's to your cool kiddo.
Tumblr media
I think I said this in my analysis of the last trailer, that I thought Link's vehicles would be able to transport Hylians, and I feel soooo vindicated right now! Yes, helping the citizens! I love it!
Tumblr media
This is ridiculous and I love it. Just us with our dumb machine against a bunch of monsters. Reminds me of that woodcutting machine from beauty and the beast, I think because of the little arm making kind of chopping motions
Tumblr media
BIG FUCKING MONSTER ATTACKING THE LITTLE BABY! I'M SO EXCITED FOR BOSS BATTLES NOW!
Tumblr media
No idea what the little magatama is still other than 'probably what they mean when they say tears'
Tumblr media
I have mixed opinions on ganondorf's design, but overall I think I like it :) He's green still, which is a little weird, but I guess he is technically a zombie, and damn did he rehydrate well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Putting these two together to make a point (may also make it it's own post too) that I think Zelda isn't just wearing the above woman's outfit, I think the above woman is Zelda, the one from 1000 years ago. (I'll also mention now that what if the male voice talking to Zelda is some version of Ganondorf?)
Tumblr media
At one point I was going to make a video about TotK theories, and one involved getting to fight with civilians. It was more of an escort idea in there, but hey, still looks exciting! I love all these people who are stepping up to the plate and aren't just going to let another calamity hit them!
Tumblr media
Riju haircut! Sidon is King! Kind of weird that we say three of the four races, really hoping the gorons are doing okay. I'm really excited to see how the powers and strengths of the allies have evolved. From the footage, you already get the idea that Riju has started to use Urbosa's lightning powers.
Tumblr media
Gleeok! We've all seen him coming, but hey, he's officially here! That's pretty rad!
Tumblr media
Hard to see, but we're getting more of the wall mural thing, this time featuring ganondorf. I hope this thing will be, like, a physical thing in game so we can look at the whole thing.
Tumblr media
And finally Zelda. My bets are that she's a) going to be found sleeping on that thing, very similar to Zelda 2's ending or that b) she's going to end up being sacrificed on it :(

My probably spoiler free TotK review-🏹
I was honestly kind of disappointed, I’m not going to say it was just a $70 expansion pack because it wasn’t and I know this disappointment is my fault for having such high expectations. This game super fun and amazing moments but it also had moments I avoided after once because they were just so boring. For me, BotW was something I could play 3 or 4 times without getting bored, I don’t think I could play TotK again, maybe it’s because I’ve already played BotW and have already explored this hyrule bottom to top, but it’s just missing that thing that makes it replay able. I actually do think that the reason my expectations were so high were the trailers, and that the game just seemed I guess more “blah” then the trailers.
Hey, we all experience the game differently! I’m glad you still found good moments in it. :) I personally really enjoyed the game, the story was meh but man when it hit hard it hit hard. I have never screamed during a boss battle so much in my life lol, that final fight was amazing. Also I found the side quests hilarious and fun! Honestly more engaging than the main story most of the time 🤣
I definitely like botw better than totk but I very much enjoy totk too.

Why TOTK Ganondorf is the best Ganondorf in the series
This became a bit of an essay by accident hehe
Goes without saying: HUGE MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR THE FINAL BOSS AND ENTIRE STORY!!! All the gifs used are my own, and even though they're a bit crunchy, feel free to use them as you wish!
Anyways, starting at the start.
The Character
Tumblr media
I'm not exactly a long time Zelda fan (botw was my first proper zelda game), and therefore didn’t know that much about Ganondorf before I saw him in the trailer and decided to research the lore like a crazy person. Based off of that, I think that Wind Waker Ganondorf is the best by far.
He had such an interesting aura to him- less like a power hungry madman and more like a wise old king who was also very evil, and his motivation made it difficult to see him as a true villain. As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. His whole plan revolved around the fact that the Gerudo people, his people, were left to suffer in the desert while the rest of Hyrule prospered, and he decided to take action. At least, that's what I remember. Please correct me if I have that messed up!!
Anyways, I think that motivation is what makes WW G-man cool- he's a total asshole, yes, but he has this kind of twisted honour that almost makes you feel bad for him. And this brings me to my one little gripe about TOTK Ganondorf- he doesn’t really seem to have a motivation? At least, not that I heard of. So in that sense, he doesn’t really feel as driven as WW Ganon. We never learn WHY he wanted to rule over Hyrule, he kinda just did. He wanted power, that much was obvious, but that was it. On the other hand though, it’s always fun to have a villain who’s evil for the sake of being evil, and it didn’t detract at all from his presence in the game.
And boy, is he a PRESENCE. Some of his lines are incredibly cold- "I will rule. That is what a king must do" WITH THE ORGAN IN THE BACKGROUND AND HIS DEMON KING TITLE ON THE SCREEN, or "Do not look away, you witness a king's revival" (the line that drove the whole community insane for a little while- if you know you know) as he draws his sword with all the confidence of a centuries old evil incarnate.
Even better- "I will be taking far more than your arm this time", as if Ganondorf, through the Calamity, hasn't taken away everything Link knew and loved already. This dude is crazy.
(And a little bonus that I found out about right before posting this- apparently in the Japanese version, he does have a very clear motive? But it was lost in translation? I need to research that a bit more though. If you know anything about that, do tell!!)
Now, with that out of the way...
The Build Up
Tumblr media
Thematically, I think that the build up to his fight is pretty awesome, even compared to the other three G's. If you did the entire story (geoglyphs included) beforehand, then you know that this dude:
a) straight up killed someone with his bare hands (he wasn't holding the knife when he killed Sonia, so I kind of just assumed he broke her spine or something)
b) is so powerful that 7 of the strongest warriors in Hyrule WITH secret stones couldn't defeat him, and was only taken down by sealing his power away- which is still only a temporary solution
c) lived on after reawakening despite being an actual emaciated corpse
d) was so busted that even in (kind of) death, the essence of his power (the malice) that leaked out of his seal was strong enough on its own to completely DECIMATE Hyrule
So yeah, I was a little scared on my way down because I knew this guy was going to kick my ass (spoiler alert: he did).
The little gauntlet of monsters to fight as you descend was pretty sick, and serves as a fairly good warmup for the army later on. The silver lynel totally caught me off guard though. As you get closer to the lowest point in Hyrule, you end up amassing some of the most powerful weapons imaginable thanks to all the silver enemies, which got me feeling so goddamn strong! That's important later.
And eventually, getting to the Forgotten Foundation and realising that I was back in the prologue area as that scary music started back up sent chills down my spine.
And the music. THE MUSIC.
youtube
Give this a listen (youtube because soundcloud links are jank, sorry)- skip to about 2:00 because that's the bit I'm talking about!
As you get deeper and deeper, the music gets more and more intense- and if there’s one thing I absolutely adore about TOTK, it’s the dynamic music throughout (see example: THE DUNGEON THEMES). The use of music that changes as you go- and this is by far the best example.
At first, you don’t really notice it while you’re preoccupied. You’re more focused on weapons and monsters and all that mess. But the first time I really noticed it was, as I said, when I realised I was in the prologue. The cut up voice clips and the drone in the background are a little creepy, and remind you of what happened the last time you tried to fight this guy,
Then, it starts to develop once you walk past the mural. There’s the choral singing, the drone in the background picks up into something with more melody, and the entire run up to the boss is completely enemy free- it gives you time to let the circumstances sink in as the music swells and you approach the heart of the depths. Also, the music builds as you get deeper and deeper, which from what I know is a subversion from the usual "music building as you climb his tower" or whatever he's in normally. Very nice.
Idk about you guys, but I slow walked down there for the DRAMATIC EFFECT.
At about 3 minutes into the video is how it sounds when you dive into the imprisoning chamber, where it all started (and I'll talk more about the parallels between this and the prologue another time... THE TORCH AUGHHSYWJHFH) and keep trucking on through the gloom, the horror movie piano kicking in as you walk through the final tunnel and stand on the precipice overlooking the dark, unknown pit below...
And jump.
Then the track finally reaches its climax as everything starts to overlap, the bells and organ (i think thats what it is?) screaming at you in the background as you fall, making the song feel like an epic of vengeance. There's so much dread, and an underlying ominous/threatening feeling that encapsulates the fact that Ganondorf is the embodiment of an ancient evil, one that has tormented Hyrule for centuries- but at the same time, there's an element of finality and inevitability, because you're going to put that evil down, and make up for all the grief and the death and loss that constantly follows in his wake.
I mean, just listen to the last 30 seconds or so of that track and tell me you don't feel excited. In awe. Because I deadass teleported back up to the mural just to hear it again.
I think I got a little carried away there, but moving on to the bit you probably came here for…
The Fight
Phase one - The Demon King's Army
Tumblr media
Remember how I mentioned that the earlier monsters and busted weapons make you feel powerful? This is basically that x10.
The whole sequence feels very epic, ESPECIALLY after the build up, and with the appearance of the Sages mirroring the attack of the Champions from BOTW, it almost feels like victory is assured already as you cut down hordes of monsters with practically no effort, all while the strings in the background kick in and get more intense with every wave.
This serves to make you feel even more like God- taking out waves and waves of fairly tough enemies made me feel like I was on top, like nothing could stand in my way. It's pretty cool, a good way of integrating the monster army you keep seeing in the cutscenes, and manages to keep the energy from the descent going pretty well, while also being a casual reminder that this Ganondorf bloke can summon world ending horrors at will. ESPECIALLY when the dungeon bosses come back to life and force the Sages to stay behind.
Phase two - The Menace Unleashed
youtube
Once again, the music goes absolutely crazy. The first phase feels intense, but still like the fight is only just beginning. Just an ambient drone, near silent as he approaches, picking up as you start to duel. No one is here to help- no Sages, no Zelda- just Link and Ganondorf, a rematch that's been in the making since 2006.
Tumblr media
If the army battle makes you feel powerful, then the first few seconds of this fight are what takes that power away- because this guy is a total damage sponge and moved a lot faster than I could predict. Additionally, you can't fast travel outside to heal gloom hearts if you have medallions set up (i thought i was so smart for that too), so if you used all of your sunny food during the army, you're doomed.
Most of his attacks in this phase are fairly simple, with only one or two for each weapon he can wield (and tbh the switching weapons really threw me the first time), but like I said, he goes pretty fast. Therefore, if you're like me and can't differentiate some of his tells, you're also going to lose a lot of hearts very fast. And did I mention he gives you gloom hearts instead of normal damage? Again, no sunny food = death of the instant kind.
On top of the general stress of trying to get the timing down, there were a couple of moments in this phase alone that had me yelling something along the lines of "WHAT THE ACTUAL SHIT"- one of which being some of the tricks he pulls under certain conditions. For example; a standard looking sword attack where he swings once, then as you lower your shield to get a hit in, as you naturally would, he swings at you again. He also kicks you if you hang too close, and fires off some of his gloom attacks faster if you're trying to attack him as he charges. It makes him feel more like an actual person you're fighting, and stops you from hanging close and swinging wildly the whole time.
Tumblr media
(i was going to make this a video, but tumblr only lets you add one. anyways, see what i said about him swinging again if you lower the shield?)
As well as that, he taunts and mocks you when you get hit- make any misstep or stumble into an attack, and he'll laugh and insult your skill while he casually walks up to you like the absolute gigachad he is. It's not like the Twilight Princess walk where it feels a bit slow- this walk made me feel THREATENED. Circling in the opposite direction when he circled me with the spear made me feel like a pro swordsman. On one hand, I thought the taunting was super cool as a mechanic! On the other hand it made me want to kill him even harder.
And the other moment that made my jaw drop? This guy. Can DODGE your regular attacks AND FLURRY RUSH. And by flurry rush I mean take a really tough/fast swing at you. BUT STILL.
For as long as I can remember, the perfect dodge and flurry rush have given Link an unfair edge over most enemies and bosses- it's an opening to deal mass damage with no counters. It’s made link OP against everything the game throws at him- up until right now. This highlights the fact that Ganondorf is no pushover- him and Link are evenly matched, and you’ll need some actual consistent skill to take him out. The good news is that your own flurries are still pretty powerful, and 5 or 6 are enough to start the next phase.
As the fight progresses and his health starts to go down, the music starts to build up more (at about 1:25 in the video above)- the barely present drums starting to speed up and get louder, accompanied by sporadic piano, more choral snippets, and an ominous undertone as their duel grows more intense, eventually building to a climax and slowing down a tad (2:45) as he activates his secret stone and transforms, beginning the third phase.
Phase three and four - Master of the Secret Stone
Tumblr media
Well this one was certainly something. Once again I jumped out of my seat and YELLED when his health bar started to refill past the normal amount, all the way off of my screen. It just didn’t stop. There are no words to describe the primal fear of realising how insanely busted this dude was. I tried to get it on the gif up there, but that made the video too long to convert :(
The music here is my favourite bit of the whole phase- as you face down the powered up Ganondorf and his phantoms, you hear the familiar but melancholy motif of BOTW/Dark Beast playing around the same time the Sages show up once again to deal with said phantoms (at about 3:22). For a second it's just that- melancholy, encapsulating the same kind of hopelessness that followed Calamity Ganon 100 years ago. But at the same time, as your squad comes to assist, you're reminded of the Champions and their aid, and suddenly it feels like you could still turn the tides of this seemingly impossible battle. Just like you did with the Calamity.
Yes it was cool, and yes I nearly cried.
The phantoms were actually the worst for a minute or so- it takes a while for the all of the Sages to appear and lighten the burden, meaning that you end up needing to take on 2-5 of these guys at once as well as the real deal. This got me killed more times than I'd like to admit. Once all the Sages arrive, the arena becomes a complete warzone with everyone duking it out at once, the real Ganondorf’s attacks start to get faster and harder hitting, and he starts to dodge and rush you more often- even dodging more of your attacks and forcing you to flurry him, so if you don’t have your timing down, this is awful. Not to mention, it's very easy to lock on to the wrong Ganon, which makes it harder to block the real attacks with a shield.
And also, this is the point where he starts destroying literally all of your shields in just a few hits, meaning that if you can't dodge or parry, then it's only so long until you're left defenceless.
Aside from that, this phase plays out like the Phantom Ganon fight in the Castle until you get his health bar down about halfway, when he recalls the phantoms and biden blasts the Sages away, beckoning Link forwards and starting phase four, which is basically phase two again but insane.
Tumblr media
This is where the fight- for me, at least- became incredibly difficult, since Ganondorf not only dodges your regular attacks, but also dodges your flurry rushes and counters with his own EVERY SINGLE TIME, forcing you to flurry rush again to hit him. Not only does this require perfect timing, but is also the only way to damage him for the remainder of this fight (unless you cheese it with arrows or sneak in some hits in while he's switching weapons- but the latter is dangerous since he still attacks faster when you're close).
A little video to emphasise the flurry rush thing; the timing for that second dodge had to be dead on. What you can't hear is me yelling something along the lines of "GOD, FINALLY" after dying to this phase many times and mashing the y button like my life depended on it. LOOK HOW FAST THAT MF IS ON THE SECOND ATTACK
The soundtrack becomes super crazy again, this time using the motif of Calamity Ganon/the Blights (starts at 5:00, and you can also hear it in the video above) and bringing back that sense of hopelessness again- but this time with with a strong side of excitement since you're now in the final stretch of the fight. Because the Blights were supposed to be the equal match for each Champion, this bit of the theme makes it feel like Ganondorf is an equal match to Link- which I know I've said already, but that's kind of the thing that's blown me away the most about the whole battle.
It's the fact that you can't just wail on him and spam flurry rushes without him countering you in some way- which in this case mostly consists of him dodging you and attacking back at an insane speed. This isn't like Calamity Ganon where you just hit and dodge for five minutes, this is an actual proper swordfight, and exactly what I'd been hoping for from the final boss!
Additionally, the Blight/Calamity motif (well, more like entire theme) represents his ties to Calamity Ganon, the force of nature that took Link 2 tries to beat (with death included), and it's use in this part of the battle tells you that right now, Ganondorf possesses the same level of destructive power as that thing- and he's sure as hell going to make sure you know that.
As well as the whole "dodging the flurry rush and forcing you to pull it off twice" thing, he also pulls out a few more projectile based attacks. These aren't too bad (WE GET THE RETURN OF ARCANE PING PONG FROM OOT), but he usually follows them up with a quick swing, making them a distraction that takes a while to get used to.
And finally, as a last little surprise, getting hit by any of his gloom projectiles in this phase takes away one of your maximum hearts. PERMANENTLY. Not like the gloom hearts, where you can get them back and then heal. Nope. That shit is gone gone.
Once you finally whittle down his ridiculous health bar, we launch into the customary "massive beast" style phase as he straight up just rips the secret stone out of his head and eats it, giving up his mind, body and soul for the sake of defeating Link, becoming a Dragon and escaping through the top of the arena.
Phase five - Draconified Demon King
Tumblr media
So like I said above, the Demon Dragon is basically Dark Beast 2, except it's so much cooler! The cutscene does a great job of highlighting the insane size of this guy- it's like 3x the size of the already massive elemental dragons and emerges from the depths in a way that eerily resembles the Calamity, right down to the glowing yellow eyes. And yeah, that's probably the point, but it's still cool.
Luckily for Link, Zelda/the Light Dragon swoops in and rescues him from the jaws of death (literally), taking him high up into the air so he can attack from above. It's an absolute spectacle, and the epic style remix of the game's main theme that plays makes it even better, instilling the same level of awe that Dark Beast does- at least for me.
Tumblr media
Just like DB, the fight has you up against a massive malice/gloom infused monster (the dragon, in this case), getting close and attacking it's weak points and then finishing it off by destroying the secret stone on it's head. There's a lot of downtime, which is kind of to be expected with this style of fight, but I honestly don't mind because these colossal battles are supposed to feel less like a Dark Souls boss and more like a victory lap- like a "you're Link, the legendary hero, slaying this massive beast in the name of Hyrule" kind of thing.
My personal favourite bit of this whole phase is the fact that when you dive down to the Dragon's weak points, Zelda dives down next to you to get underneath and catch you afterwards. So sick. I also really like the use of skydiving! It pairs super well with the music and made me think of that final trailer we got in April- like THIS is the epicness we were promised.
(and also dodging the fireballs was way more fun than slowly sidestepping a laser. sorry dark beast, but i gotta say it </3)
Final thoughts
I'm gonna be honest: I kind of forgot to compare his fight to the other 3 mainline ones, but doing that now would make this way too long! I just love the TOTK fight so much and needed to get it out.
While I'd still say that each Ganondorf (in the mainline games) has their own unique trait that makes them cool: OOT Ganondorf is the original, and the most cunning, WW Ganondorf has the best character and TP Ganondorf is the most evil by a mile- TOTK Ganondorf feels like a combination of those best traits (minus the characterisation) paired with the greatest final boss I've ever seen in a Zelda game, which makes him the best for me.
The first phase in particular was my favourite- wayyyyy back in April when I saw big G in the trailer, my first thought was "oh man i hope we get an actual sword fight boss instead of calamity ganon 2.0" AND MY PRAYERS WERE ANSWERED!!!
Ganondorf literally just rolled up, delivered some cold lines, and then kicked my ass with his cool sword. Many times. And I think that's exactly the kind of boss fight he deserves. I'm just so happy that it feels like we're in an actual duel, mano a mano, instead of just being able to chance a win like with Calamity.
FIN
thank you for reading my zelda obsessed rambles! i just beat the boss last night and have been working on this on and off all day, so any reblogs or shares would be massively appreciated <3

I'm sorry I know it's been more than three hours but I'm still deep in my feels about totk and literally crying at the fact that Link, deeply hurt Link dropped the Master Sword and jumped into the void to try to catch and save Zelda, I'm so unwell about this, excuse me...
After everything these children have been throught, the fact that their friends and families died, the kingdom came to ruin, Link died and woke up an hundred years later, had to fix a past he doesn't remember and fight for a better future while trying to piece back his own memories and identity, meanwhile Zelda was imprisoned and had to fought against a monster all alone for so long while grieving but still trying to be hopeful that Link might wake up someday without any certainty... And the fact that they were already both suffering because of their destiny even before the tragedy hit, and thinking that at the end of botw they thought they could finally be free and heal, finally gain back their lifes and get to experience the freedom they never had like the teenagers they are...
But no ganondorf is still here and everything they went throught, the time and peoples they have lost, the suffering, sacrifices, and destruction were all for nothing ! And just that fact alone is enough to break my heart but it doesn't end there, Link gets deeply hurt, adding more scars to the ones he already has especially the ones that killed him an hundred years ago (according to Robbie they are visible), but he stands up to ganondorf like he stood in front of the guardians in the blatchery plain, because Link will fight till his last breath especially to protect Zelda, but Zelda falls and he literally drops his most precious weapon in hope to join and save her, and then zelda begs to save him? (the "lend him your power" thing) because Zelda would do everything to save him like she did in these fields an hundred years ago... These children would do anything for each other and the worst is that they will probably get separated again, and who knows what will happen to Zelda...
Also seeing hyrule which got the time to heal and thrive in the last hundred years, dear beloved hyrule in which Link spent so long adventuring in, in such a state of ruins and despair hurts.
Botw felt like hope, freshness and somehow innocence, a slow, almost kind and sweet rebirth after tragedy, the turning of a new page while still honoring the past, almost like moving on and healing while the scars are still there but slowly fading, not hiding them but rebuilding and growing around those scars... But now totk seems more like despair, and the inevitably of tragedy, of this endless cycle of suffering the three protagonists are stuck in, that they can do anything, fight throught countless lifetimes like the hero and princess before them, they can't escape fate, it will still catch them up and this curse won't break nor end, and even Zelda is not so sure that they will be able to stop ganondorf this time.... idk we still don't know much about the story but it's some things I've felt watching all these trailers even thought the adventures in the sky and all the past elements, with the ancients tunics etc seems more joyful...
Anyway I spiraled a lot as you can see, it's so long and I didn't make much sense like my broken English but I needed to talk about this, I'm so sorry haha... But my point is that Link and Zelda are literally two children all alone at the center of all these tragedies, burdened by their fates and the responsibility of saving hyrule and everyone, but they got each others and would do anything for one another and if they don't at least hug or hold hands in totk I would be sad.
Same anon as that long ask from before, I just realised but Link might have jump after her also because he didn't want her to be alone, he didn't want to be alone, he didn't want to be separated again, that at least this time they stay together whatever danger awaits them... this is giving big percabeth fall into the tartarus vibes and I'm still crying about zelink....
Don't worry, I understood you perfectly and agree with everything. I AM SO SAD!!! The first game is all about how even after apocalypse there is beauty, there is a second chance, Zelda is constantly telling you she believes in you and so is the world itself,,,, so seeing Hyrule all dark and empty and littered with unknown objects and hearing Zelda saying she doesn't think there's much chance this time FLOORED me. I mean yay, a sequel, but also MY EMOTIONS HURT. They were supposed to be safe!!!! She was supposed to feel good about her lack of power because for the first time it didn't matter if she had it!!!! HE WAS SUPPOSED TO WALK IN STEP WITH HER INSTEAD OF SEVERAL STEPS BACK BECAUSE THEY WERE NO LONGER THE PRINCESS AND HER KNIGHT!!!!!! He jumped after her.....................

!! TOTK related but no spoilers !!
If anyone is curious about the artbook but doesn't want to get spoiled this for you
I looked at the artbook to see what would be safe to show to people who don't want to get spoiled but are still curious about what's in there so this post is totally safe and will only show a few pictures of what's completely spoiler free with the Japanese text removed just in case
Still spoiler warning just in case I accidentally post something spoiler worthy but I'm being careful so that shouldn't happen
(also I'm pretty sure someone else has made a post like this but I'm doing it anyway)
So first of all
Cheese.
Tumblr media
It's probably unnecessary to censor it but I said I was gonna do it so I'm doing it. Yes this page is just cheese. My personal theory is that link has to fill those little vials on his hips and each one is connected to a cheese piece and he has to reconstruct the sacred gouda (I will not accept any criticism on this theory).
Next and very important we have :
Bear print paraglider
Tumblr media
Hudson paraglider (with censored hylian text just in case there's spoiler in there and since I can't be bothered to translate I'm just censoring it)
Tumblr media
I won't post all the designs but just so you know there's a cut korok design, a sheika design, a stable/malanya design, and blupee/lord of the mountain design which I think is cute and some other stuff
Next we have closeups of enemies that we have seen in the trailer and only those types so I won't show the designs for the higher tier enemies and the redesign for the other enemies we haven't seen yet (the keese have slight color changes but since we don't see any in the trailer I won't show them)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So first we have the moblins, it seem their drops will be similar to botw, so we will have their funky new horns as drops
Tumblr media
Green lizalfos, same as the moblins so smart drops so new funky blade-looking horn
Tumblr media
Here we have the bokoblins, I will refer you to what I said previously about the drops (and may I add that the silver bokoblins have a funny pom-pom looking thing at the end of their horn so it looks like they have a weird party hat)
Tumblr media
Next we have whatever this is, I've seen theories that they could be this game's version of kargaroks so we'll just call them that. Not much to see just slightly better quality than the trailer and it seem their drops are a but similar to keeses and since they look very similar I didn't censor the eyes that look like the drops (I'm starting to be incoherent so bear with me)
Next:
There are new NPCs which I won't show, just know you won't have to keep talking to the exact same NPCs as botw, though their are a few sheika people that just look like those in botw so I guess we still have some old NPCs.
On the topic of the sheika, again no pictures but, very important
Impa has little stilts because she's short as fuck (to be fair their not really stilts but those Japanese shoes with tall wood soles but they look like stilts and it's funny to me)
For those who didn't like that the sheika stuff was omnipresent and got bored of it, worry not my friends, we have new environments and the architecture seems varied so you won't get bored as fast
Finally and again no pictures, link will have news clothes, which was a given but still, I'm just confirming the fact and some old armor pieces form botw will still be in the game and to end this post here's a censored picture of link in his sky outfit which is on the promotion for the collector's edition so we've seen it it's just slightly better quality and without the Japanese text

I got two anons in regards to Zelda.
I'm going to answer them here to maintain spoilers. So spoilers below for Totk.
I'm of two minds about totk's story, personally. Keeping it vague for spoiler reasons, I think the twist with Zelda was a really cool idea, and the final boss was a really grand spectacle that made for a great finale. The new characters, Rauru and Sonia, were welcome additions too, but getting the memories out of order slightly ruins the impact, and I think the scenes in the past should have been playable instead. I love this take on Ganon, but I think his motives should have been explored more.
So, my own thoughts on your specific thoughts.
I personally found the dragon thing.... dumb. It doesn't feel like it belongs in a Zelda game. A friend of mine and I always discuss how much we hated it, haha. But I understand why others like it.
The human side of the final boss was great! The dragon was dumb. But that was because I found the entire dragon concept incredibly dumb.
Rauru and Sonia are.... fine. They aren't really anything special, imo. We don't really get to know them. They are just... nice. That's pretty much their only defining personality trait. I don't hate them or anything, I just don't find them anything special either.
This Ganon is.... meh. He's pretty stupid. He literally leaves Stones out in the open and doesn't take them for some reason. That's dumb villain behavior. His motivation is slightly more clear in the Japanese - He thinks peace makes people weak and he wants people strong. So... that's it, really. I just wish they gave him a Trident and not a samurai sword. Where is my Trident, Nintendo? That's literally his thing, you even had it in the OG teaser trailer! Character-wise, he's no more special than OoT Ganon, except OoT Ganon is actually given screen time to build a rivalry with Link. And was actually a more successful Ganon than this one.
To be frank, I found there to be very little to enjoy from this game's narrative. It's so sloppy, childish (note, I don't mean for a younger audience either, I mean it's like a 9 year old wrote it), and devoid of anything meaningful. The only thing I can recall truly loving was when Dragonroost Island theme kicked in during the Rito boss fight. And that made me tear up a little. And only because of WW, not because of BotW.
To be clear, I enjoyed my time with the game on the whole. But the only reason I plan to replay it is because I want to make a video explaining every microscopic detail as to why this game's story was poorly conceived.
In hindsight, I feel like Botw was to Zelda what FFXV was to Final Fantasy; games that changed the direction of their respective series for better or worse and given Aonuma's whole thing about the previous 3D zeldas being "restrictive", I think we're stuck with the botw/totk formula for a long time.
We are. I'm not exactly.... opposed to the open-world design. I just don't think they figured it out yet.
I know so many people think BotW and Totk are perfected open-world games. To me, a perfect open-world game doesn't look like what these two games gave me.
Here is what I want from the next Zelda game.
A narrative that adapts to the players actions, so the choices we make matter more
A smaller map but at least 8 dungeons. The dungeons should not require an entire sequence to enter, but can be wandered into when discovered. Imagine looking into the lake and seeing a temple! And then imagine swimming into the lake, and entering that temple for a new dungeon. Or, searching the forest and finding an ancient ruins buried deep within the leaves.
The smaller map should have more NPCs. I want real, large cities! Lendyell's, not the pathetic Rito village. I want Goron City to BE a city! Come on, Nintendo, make it happen!
Please do not make Princess Zelda a whiney baby this time, please. Or, in the case of Totk, an uninteresting Mary Sue.
Make horses actually good this time.
Stop forcing me to menu all the damn time.
No building! Lame! Stop it!
Can we make Link emote again, please? It's so embarrassing that the n64 Link has more personality than the latest Zelda game on better hardware.
I have more but this is what is on the top of my list.
Of course, I know I sound like a negative nilly. But I don't really hate the idea of these games like a lot of fans seem to do. I just can't love them yet because there are still too many issues.
I want to love the new format desperately. Totk, while a crappy story, actually gave me glimpses into greatness. I can see how the team tweaked it, tried to find a perfected formula in there. I can see them trying, and that gives me hope!
Like, if you were to give me a choice between Totk and Botw, and I can only play one of these for the rest of my life, I'm going with Totk. It's not a better story, but it's a better game. It doubled down on Botw's weaknesses, but I think that just comes with using BotW as a base. Maybe an entirely new game can finally do away with those weaknesses.
Hopefully, we won't wait 6 years to find out! Hopefully no more than 3? We know that they have already started the planning phase of the new game. And it possible that they started a year ago. Totk was finished over a year ago, and had a year of testing before release. Hopefully, they delegated, and had a small team begin the start of the new game.
Plus, no covid this time to slow them down!
Here's to hoping!

ive done a terrible thing and accidentally turned on gloom hands for the map. i was only doing korok seeds/wells/caves/other bosses - i wanted shrines and hands to be a surprise, so i was just turning shrines on and off now and then to make sure i wasnt walking past any. but then i turned on hads to see how many there were and there's two in the next place im going for my korok seeds (crenel region). i would have rather not known :(
ugh man my compendium is SOOO empty...i miss the camera being on the first-person view. having it as an ability is so clunky! if i wanna 100% this i really gotta get on that bc no way do i or will i ever have the rupees to buy my way to victory
i looove btw, if i havent said. that if you kill an enemy while gliding/skydiving, you get the drops anyway. like they just appear in your inventory. VERY good
five bomb flowers in this chest! i appreciate it, but i almost have more bombs than arrows. (80-something arrows, 60-something bombs.) i got used to living without them. im a muddlebud girl now
ah i see. mining.
a well with nothing in it...there's gotta be more to it. haha it's the moor garrison ruins well so. that's a little joke. anyway im googling
okay, apparently google doesn't know shit either? surely there is something else here........
i guess not :/ bet i'll have to come back later...
WAIT I FOUND. STEPS THAT GO UNDERGROUND BUT THERE'S BARS HERE AAAA LET ME INNNNN
lmao the wall in the well is cracked can i actually bomb it?
answer: no
OH....................................
i thought ascending thru the ceiling would just take me back topside, but the well room was under this underground room! so i got in! ooough that dopamine. puzzle SOLVED all on my own!!!!
theres a treasure chest in one of these rooms, but the map tells me it's another fucking shield so im giving it a pass. i got the trick, thats what matters
shrine BELOW me? girl wtf
if i have to go back in that mining cave i just went thru.
ugh i checked and i DOOOO how did i miss it!!!
i DIED getting over there >:(
UGH and the enemies are back cuz of a blood moon :( i wasted 2 muddlebuds to NOT fight these guys...
i wish the totk fight music was better. i mean don't get me wrong, it's fine, but because of the way the soundtrack works the 3 songs i hear most often are the fight music, the shrine music, and the ambient bg music, which sometimes changes when in a snowy/high/watery area. i hear the fight music more than any other song and it gets stuck in my head CONSTANTLY and while much of this game's soundtrack is mindblowing and incredible, the fight music Is Not. it's simply not good enough for the song i'm listening to the fucking most. i'm already tired of hearing it and i'm only (checks) 95 hours into this game. ugh
>:( i'm mad that i probably won't be able to 100% it before i hit 100 hours...i wanted my whole hero's path on record...
anyway i found the shrine. finally.
NOT MORE OF THIS EVENTIDE SHIT
ugh i'm just gonna do it. honestly why couldn't they have just refined it to one island instead of microdosing us.......
COOL...there's a battle talus just patrolling back and forth along the road here!!
oh, a big tower fell over here...idr that from botw but i think it was in the trailers! neat
ok, i'm getting close to the area where the hands spawn :( i turned them back on on my map cuz im scared :(
oh man. so they spawn in these stumps full of water right...i can literally see those. they are so close to me. if i didn't Know i'd wander right in, unsuspecting...this is why i had that turned off. it's better not to know!!! than this anxiety!!!!!
what if i just...make them pop and then despawn them...
i can't do it. i can't. that is a TRAP i can see it's a trap those are high sides there's water like no fucking way. no way
GOD fuck a like like made a noise and i jumped out of my skin. the way the hands can scare you when you arent around AAAAAAAAAAAA
rauru settlement ruins...an innocuous reference to the ocarina of time sage in botw, but now...
i still have a few seeds left to get there and i know what i said about not doing shit today but i do actually have to do shit today. rip!

Tears of the Kingdom Trailer analysis
-First off the into sequence to the trailer is sick. I don't notice anything new in there but it does look really cool.
-Hateno Village has gotten a makeover. It looks like it's been expanded or otherwise upgraded. Love the mushroom thing they've got going on, it's really neat.
-It also seems like attempts are being made to resettle Castle Town, though right now it seems like it's just a camp. Perhaps we'll get something like the Tarrey Town side quest to rebuild Castle Town? That could be neat.
-Next shown is Kakariko Village or at least the mountains overlooking it. I can't really make much out of the village itself though I'm guessing it's probably seen it's own improvements like Hateno, though the shrine seems to have been replaced with... something? Perhaps it's meant to give Link a way to the Sky Islands? There is however one new thing in that giant stone ring which seems like it's a part of something, definitely looks like it was carved on purpose.
-I'm not entirely sure where the next scene shows. My knee jerk reaction is somewhere in Faron, though the cliffs and the like also look like it could be somewhere in Tabantha. Not 100% sure.
-Next is definitely somewhere in the Gerudo desert and we watch as some structure rises out of the sand. It looks like a dungeon which has me really excited. Maybe a future version of the Arbiters Grounds? Or the Spirit Temple perhaps? Either way that structure is just screaming "dungeon"
-The castle surrounded by falling rocks. I think this is probably a scene from early in the game. The castle also looks very ominous, dark and foreboding, made only more true by the tendrils of malice as the rocks hit the ground and what I'm pretty sure is the theme BOTW used for the Blood Moon. We see the same scene from a far before
-Ganondorf looking at the Blood. God he looks terrifying and I love it.
-Another familiar scene Link trying to catch Zelda as she falls but failing
-The Gerudo desert filled with sinkholes. I think another of those things we saw in the Kakariko scene is in the background. The is just confirming my old theory that we would have to return to all the regions to fix something going wrong. Death Mountain is full of malice, the desert seems to be sinking and I can't imagine things are going much better in Zora's Domain or Rito Village.
-Speaking of Death Mountain, that next scene is definitely in Death Mountain, seemingly a mine of some sort. Link trying to fix the Malice spewing out of the volcano perhaps? Either way this area also screams "dungeon"
-A sky ship in a thunderstorm. Perhaps not all the being living on the sky islands are as hostile as the constructs? Or perhaps this is connected to another dungeon.
-Next scene is Link doing parkour in the sky, quickly shifting to Link (or someone else) skydiving through laser grids, and then to Link doing a puzzle which also seems dungeony. Next is Link paragliding through a narrow passage, which reminds me of the labyrinths, followed by Link fighting on horseback alongside a bunch of human allies, and finally Link rinding up an elevator, seemingly Shiekah tech. Looks like we're not as done with that tech as people thought.
Tumblr media
-I don't know who this dude is but they give off very rancid vibes. I think it's the mouth. Either way I don't think they're friendly. They're definitely not a race we've seen before though. Perhaps our first example of one of the Zonai? Or maybe they're something else? An interloper? A Twili? A demon? Whatever they are they fail the vibe check.
-Two more super quick scenes, one Link on a horse on a cliff and the other is some giant construct thing awakening. And that construct thing is just screaming "boss"
-A longer scene this one Link in the castle but seemingly completely rebuilt. Is this a flashback? Has Link been sent to the past? An illusion? Either way I don't think it's the castle in it's current state, not with the scene we saw earlier.
-Zelda is okay! Though I have no idea where she is. It looks like a brand new location. We also hear a voice that I first thought was King Rhoam but no it's definitely a new voice. Probably belonging to the character we see Zelda talking to after the shot of the master sword and Link drawing it. We don't see their face but unlike the last dude I definitely think this guy is on our side. The voice is calm and almost comforting and Zelda doesn't seem afraid of him. I've seen some people suggest he's a previous hero, which it might be but whoever he is he comes off as friendly rather than intimidating.
-Link flying on that bird thing again. Probably a method of travel across different sky islands or to the surface without diving.
-Link has fused his sword and shield, which seems to allow you to block attacking with your weapon. That is cool.
-There is a ball in the sky. It seems to be hollow inside and able to be entered.
-Link fighting something. It makes a keese noise so it might be some new keese or something.
-Link being launched up alongside a young Rito. I think it might be Teba's son Tulin, but whoever they are they appear a couple times so I think they might be replacing Teba as the new Rito champion which kind of sucks tbh I liked Teba. I liked having a more serious established warrior as one of the new champions alongside the more cheerful other three.
-Link escorting a wagon which he seems to have made himself. I'm guessing we're gonna have at least one escort mission where you have to get a ground from point a to point b without them getting killed.
-And we see the combat capabilities of the recall (rewind? I don't remember) ability as Link uses it to launch an octorock's projectile back at it.
-Link using some sort of rocket to propel himself up on an island, probably one off the coast of Faron based on the plants.
-More Link doing parkour in the sky. This is definitely some sort of big challenge whether an open air dungeon or something else.
-Link riding a mine cart while fighting a construct. This looks like it's the same area of Death Mountain we saw Link in earlier which just adds to the "dungeon" vibes.
-Mech battle! Except one of the mechs is actually a talus. But it's still cool.
-Horseback combat, seemingly in the wetlands near Zora's domain followed by Link shooting some sort of device which activates a bunch of lasers. This game loves it's lasers.
-Then we have Link and the Rito from earlier fighting what looks like a giant ice monster which is also giving off boss vibes into an explosion of malice as it closes its mouth
-Zelda again this time with dialogue. She mentions knowing what she's there for and that it's something only she can do. She's holding some tear shaped gem that's glowing yellow.
-Ganondorf firing his malice laser into the sky which seems to summon a bunch of monsters before dialogue from him. It is very intimidating and I love how good a job Matt Mercer is doing. Under the dialogue we also see Link's arm get attacked by malice. Probably how the master sword gets damaged and how Link's arm ends up all weird. We then see Ganondorf and once again he looks terrifying.
-Link fighting what looks like a miniboss before cutting to Link and the Rito child.
Tumblr media
-Another new character. She's wearing the same outfit as Zelda was and seems to have the yellow tear she was holding previously. I have three theories about her identity. 1 is that this is Zelda transformed in someway. 2 is that this is Hylia herself separate from Zelda. 3 is that this is the Zelda from 10000 years ago. I've got a slight theory connected to this one but I'll talk about that one later.
-Riju! She's here! She doesn't seem to look different in this shot so I suppose it hasn't been that long since BOTW since she doesn't seem to have aged any. She does however now have a sword. Edit: She doesn't just have any weapons, she has Urbosa's scimitars. Look at the official art!
-Link and some fighters on a hill. Most are hylian but we do see a Gerudo and a Goron among them. Perhaps Link will have to lead various fighters in battle at points?
-Link fighting alongside Sidon though Sidon looks different here than he does later in the trailer. We also hear a woman's voice saying something about "you" (presumably Link) not being alone. I'm guessing this voice is the dark skinned blonde woman shown earlier.
-Next we see Sidon, Riju, and the Rito youth from earlier charging. The Rito looks like they might be wielding Revali's bow and Sidon is whether wielding the light scale trident or a replica. Sidon is also wearing noticeably different things in this shot, wearing much fancier jewelry and more importantly his father's crown. He was not wearing the crown earlier he had the same appearance he had in BOTW. Sidon also seems to have another tear shaped gem on his hand, this one blue. My theory mentioned earlier is that perhaps these gems were used in the battle against Calamity Ganon 10,000 years ago and that's why the Divine Beasts weren't enough 100 years ago. The gems weren't mentioned in the stories, they didn't go looking for them, and perhaps not having them is how Ganon was able to take control of the divine beasts. Perhaps the original champions used them to enhance their abilities or otherwise protect themselves from Ganon and thus without them the champions of 100 years ago were left vulnerable.
-Link fighting a three headed dragon. I don't think I have to say what vibes that's giving off. But in case I do. Boss vibes. It gives off boss vibes.
-Final shot is Zelda standing on some sort of pedestal thing with the line "Link. You must find me" I'm guessing we have to reunite with Zelda somehow, figure out where she is, how to get there, and how to get back to her.
But yeah this trailer is jam packed and I am sooooo excited for Tears of the Kingdom. Fingers crossed I can get that day off.

what are your top five video games?
Had to think hard about this since I am objectively bad at video games and haven’t played many. However, they hold such a dear place in my heart that I feel qualified to make a top 5 list:
Minecraft- No surprise there seeing as it’s the only game here the I have/can actually play. Grew up with it all around me, not only from youtube but because it’s been my dad’s favorite game since it’s beta (guess who got me into hermitcraft and third life lmao). Shout out to the Vault Hunters mod pack for being the best ever. My vh propaganda will never cease.
Splatoon 3- Was considered not included this, let alone putting it this high, until a vid about brella buffs in patch notes released and I was hyped as hell. So yeah it’s here. It’s such a good game, easy to watch and understand, and is not afraid to be uniquely itself (considering it’s a nintendo ip). Will always boast the fact that I predicted N-ZAP becoming meta during release. I tried to play it once… I don’t know how to use a controller lmao.
Street Fighter 6- I originally heard about it because of the cast’s elevated character designs and was intrigued. Pro tip: if you ever want to get into a game franchise, watch other people’s reactions to character/gameplay trailers. The amount of second hand serotonin I’ve felt from the sf community, devs finally listening to the player base and giving them a game centered around having fun instead of the competitive scene, is unreal. The visuals are stunning and easily recognizable/understandable for someone who has never set foot into the fighting game genre.
Needy Steamer Overload (Needy Girl Overdose)- Never understood why people held video game soundtracks so highly until this popped onto the scene. THE SOUNDTRACK ABSOLUTELY BANGS. Someone did drum covers for some of the songs and they are just so good. The game itself is no joke either and is so fascinating on a visual and psychological level. It’s a psychological horror steamer sim for a reason. My number one game recommendation for any streamer to play. 🙏BLESS🙏
Kirby: Planet Robobot and The Forgotten Land- I LIED I HAVE PLAYED THIS ONE I FORGOT ABOUT KIRBY. It’s Kirby! What more can I say? Both are on here cause idc it’s my list they’re both incredible games. If you like traditional Kirby games, play robobot. If you don’t like them, play Forgotten Land.
honorable mentions: p5r, stanley parable, don’t starve together, acnh, pokemon sv, and totk (it’s sooooo much better than botw seeing as it had an ACTUALLY TUTORIAL IF I SEE ONE MORE PERSON COMPLAIN ABOUT “POINTLESS TUTORIALS” IN GAMES ITS ON SIGHT I DIDNT EVEN KNOW HEADSHOTS EXISTED IN BOTW SHUT UP)

okay. final words before i go to bed after this long, long day.
remember that big trailer for the original botw? the really epic and cinematic one? watch it again. you'll probably notice it kind of... makes zelda look lackluster. like she just isn't doing a whole lot there. you have to play botw and complete the full story to understand how powerful she is, and how much she matters to the storyline and the themes of the game.
so keep that in mind when you're thinking about today's botw2 sneak peek. yes, it's a little disappointing that it focused on link and not zelda, but it isn't even close to showing the whole story. nintendo could very well have some surprises up their sleeve.
also, don't forget about the first trailer. there's a heavy emphasis on the caves/underground exploration and a big focus on zelda as well. nintendo wouldn't do that for nothing; those things have to be significant somehow.
so, will zelda's role in botw2 be perfectly executed? probably not. it looks like we aren't getting the zelda-saves-link narrative we deserve. but still, she's not going to be completely out of the way. i have faith that she'll be vital to the plot and will kick ass alongside link at some point. exactly how groundbreaking it is remains to be seen, but i think nintendo knows better than to make four swords 2 electric boogaloo. surely they notice how much their fanbase wants to see zelda take the lead 😅
tldr: despite all my various comments today, this is gonna be a good game. i'm keeping my hopes up. and nintendo is working so hard for us and i can't not respect that

New trailer for Breath of the Wild 2 was released today!!!
Anonymous asked:
Hi! I remember you've done some interesting Zelda meta, so do you have any thoughts on the new botw 2 trailer?
SO.
disorganized thoughts under a cut:
Not sure if Link lost his arm entirely or if it's just really cursed now. It has fingernails so cursed I guess. This sure doesn't have horrifying implications for the fate of the previous Hero.
People funnier than me have quipped about it but if Zelda just drops down a hole and spends the entire game in some kind of captivity or otherwise Waiting Helplessly For Us again I'm gonna be... not really angry just disappointed. I'd have to have expected better to be angry. Sorry that's a downer just. really nintendo? really?
The new rune mechanics look really interesting, possibly a sleeker integration?
Personally I'm really hype for the sky islands. It feels like they're trying to do Skyward Sword's sky overworld right this time using BotW's more robust physics engine. I really hope it works out. Also after all those memes about Link troll physicsing himself into the heavens I guess they Heard Us. Little disappointed it's not a subterranean adventure (unless it also partially is? Link does seem to fight some kind of big underground worm thing) but sky is fun.
I just really really want to get horror-monster pursued through areas by Ganondorf. I don't want him to be just waiting for us either. I think it'd be great if you can just play chicken with parts of the overworld and get hunted for sport by the final boss before you have the resources to face him. OOPS.
His horseshoe belt accessory honestly makes me a little sad. I get they're going for withered zombie look but this is the closest we've seen him in something like casual clothes since Wind Waker. It's kind of a reminder that he did have a life at some point.
I absolutely love the domesticated (?) Talus outpost. I hope we see more of different creatures interacting and banding together. Imagine getting chased by some moblins riding a molduga. Fantastic. Big robot thing that reminds me of Gohdan?
It's weird to say it but I'm actually cautiously optimistic that they said this was going to be a darker game. I'm interested to see what they pull out when seemingly they were permitted to open some stops on the writing end. Hopefully the success of the first BotW is going to embolden them, even if it's just a little.

E3 hopes and dreams waiting to be crushed
I am not doing predictions cause let's be real E3 is about hyping up every game you would like to see and then getting either none, one or something you didn't even know you wanted. I am very excited.
So here is a list of things I would like to seeat E3 this year:
Xenoblade Chronicles
GIVE ME ANYTHING. But mostly X or X2. X deserves more love and attention. It deserves a second chance now that we have a popular console and the series has gained a lot of new fans with 2 and DE. Just pls give me Xenoblade. (X won't happen. Nintendo does NOT like to acknowledge that game even exists. But I will proudly clown with the like 5 other people in the fandom)
Fire Emblem
Honestly once again: Anything. A new game would be fun but seems to early for that. An Echoes like remake of an old Japan only title would be cool too. I also would really like Tellius ports or remakes. It's just time for more Fire Emblem. (I feel like FE is actually one of the more likely things to happen but would not be surprised of it didn't)
Zelda
Like obviously I (and everybody and their mothers) would like to see BOTW 2. I think now is the time. At least a trailer or teaser. My hopes for BOTW are actually very simple. 1. Playable Zelda. 2. No spiders. Really all that is needed to be perfect. Other Zelda things I'd like to see are a more classic top down game like A Link Between Worlds. But let's be honest we all just really want botw 2
Kingdom Hearts
Considering I now own a PS4 and recently started KH1 I will no longer beg for Switch ports. Now I am here to say it would be nice to see the next KH game but we all know it will take Nomura like 13 years to make it so maybe it's better if we don't get a trailer too early. Also it would be for next gen consoles so I wouldn't be able to get it anyway. I'd still like to see it tho. I am back on my KH bullshit and you will suffer with me
Final Fantasy
On a very related note: Show us the next part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake! Allthough it will take Nomura 7 years to make it and it would be PS5 so I can't get it. I'd still like to see it tho. Also I should finish my playthrough of FF7R... Another thing I'd like to see is more FF ports to Switch. I am curious about 13 so pls port those games?
New Style Boutique/Style Savvy/Girls Mode
Now you are probably thinking: wtf. This is a series of games that has a different name in each region (listed as Europe/Murica/Japan respectively here). These games were my jam on 3ds. You own a fashion boutique and are like a stylist and it is so much fun. Core gameplay is making outfits based on your customer's wishes. It is a great no pressure relaxing game but doesn't require the dedication of building a town in Animal Crossing. Really a guilty pleasure. I could write a whole post about what I would like to see in a new game. Maybe I will. Anyway I really hope this series didn't die with the 3ds. (Also remember the song Ring a Ding in Smash? That's from this series. It's great)
Tomodachi Life
I have been curious about this game and would like to try it and with Miitopia on Switch I feel like they could (and should) port Tomodachi Life too. Or make a new one. I don't know details about this game tho so I don't know how much they need to change for the new platform and making it more up to date in general (is gay marriage a thing in that game? If not it should be)
Anyway that is all I can think of right now. Really shows I really only play/watch like a few select series.. oops. Anyway I am looking forward to get literally nothing from this list. Clown make up at the ready!

Now TGA is all wrapped up, I can say I didn’t see a Raid Shadow Legends ad on a bingo card. But, I’m gonna sum up all my thoughts about Sonic in one big post.
First, the movie trailer. Ben Schwartz came on stage and was just an absolute joy. That man is amazing. The actual trailer though, oh my god it was so good. All the call backs, TAILS!!! THEY WERE WEARING TINY PUFFY COATS!!!
Tumblr media
Also, the Master Emerald? Knuckles seemingly working with Eggman implying he might’ve been tricked, as is customary in his early appearances? Yes? Give me more? This movie feels so much more Sonic than the first I am really excited for it. Won’t be seeing it in theaters because I hate theaters, but I wanna see this one even more than the first film.
On to Frontiers. It appears, ironically, the 4chan leaks about Rangers were correct. The “ghost girl” guiding Sonic, it being open world… I am really interested in seeing what they can do with an open world game. The controls and acceleration will have to be fine-tuned or else it’ll be an absolute pain trying to do anything, but hey Sonic himself is already an in-universe explanation for skip travel.
Also, I must say, the environments are beautiful. (This one in particular reminds me of northern Primordia in Xenoblade X)
Tumblr media
I am so glad the annoyingly cartoony look from Lost World is gone. Forces was alright, but the art style wasn’t my favorite. This, this is beautiful. I wonder if it’s running on the Hedgehog Engine 2 or something else entirely?
Although, with the open world confirmation, I am seeing folks complaining that it’s a “BotW rip off.” Some people say this in jest which is fine, but others are holding it quite seriously. Firstly, Breath of the Wild isn’t the only open world game and I’d argue not even best, but so few people owned a Wii U and missed out on Xenoblade X so I’ll put that aside. Actually, from the shots we saw it gave me huge Rise of Lyric vibes, like THIS is what that game was supposed to look like before half the content got axed. Either way, they’re trying something new and that’s half of Sonic’s history, so I’m down for it. I don’t think it can beat out Xenoblade X for me, but I’m still interested.
We did get a small story synopsis, found out the area is called Starfall Islands and there’s ancient technology within it that Sonic will be discovering the history of.
Tumblr media
SOMEONE TRY AND TELL ME THIS DOESN’T REMIND YOU OF THE ANCIENTS FROM RISE OF OF LYRIC.
But something else interesting is we’re FINALLY getting a new English writer, Ian Flynn is going to be “penning” the story.
Tumblr media
I generally like Ian Flynn’s writing, there’s some issues I have with it, but overall I find it enjoyable. Do I think he’s the perfect Sonic writer? Of course not, but I’m interested in seeing what he can actually do with a game. Writing a game is very different from a comic, it’s something entirely new for him and I’m optimistic about the outcome.
It’s also worth noting that we don’t know if he had full creative control over the narrative or if he’s doing translation touch-ups. Let’s not forget SEGA of Japan wrote Forces, Pontaff just did the localization. The narrative was set before they were even brought in. No matter what happens, I’m sure we’ll still see people subbing the Japanese version like “look how much better this is!” when they’re nearly identical.
Maybe I went on a bit of a tangent, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but it’s kinda hard to be excited and optimistic when tons of people are shitting all over something we know very little about. Either way, I can rejoice for a moment because there’s a Steam page for the game and next year, I will definitely be picking it up. I hope my graphics card can handle it.

Quick Thoughts on Genshin Impact
Against my better judgement, I decided to give Genshin Impact a shot last night and a bit of today. After seeing some trailers and fan content I got very curious about it and finally caved to play it. After about 6-ish hours of playing I have some thoughts on it. Overall I find this game an enjoyable experience, but I don’t think it’s going to tear my away from Arknights any time soon. And figured I’d write something a bit shorter than my usual essays as a bit of a warm up before getting to the grindstone of belting out that essay about Arknights’ Gavial Event and the fourth essay in my Liking Guilty Gear series.
Some Things of Note
This game is best played on a decent pc/laptop running at 60 fps. I tried playing this on PS4 when it first came out and found it very underwhelming due to some of the controls and slower framerate. Playing this game on my gaming PC with an Xbox 360 controller is a much better experience.
The game itself runs very smoothly even on my (comparatively) average gaming PC, so that’s something.
If you play on using a controller for this game, then I recommend an Xbox/PC controller. I’ve got some software installed to rework my PS3 dualshock for most PC games, but with Genshin Impact, a proper 360 controller works best.
The fact the A is cancel/back and B is confirm/advance is cancerous and needs to die. This is straight up sacrilege right here. It’s has to be breaking some kind of unwritten law somewhere.
Gameplay Thoughts
Really like how the elemental system works. There’s a lot of fun to be hand messing with the environment and enemies, testing out different reactions and maximizing damage by clever use of the elements and character switching.
Character switching feels good too. I don’t really care for the cooldown timer, but it’s very short and makes you plan things out a bit.
I know this game is seen as a Breath of the Wild lite, but there’s a lot about this game I like more than BotW. For one, your weapons don’t break and you have more generous inventory management. This game took out the most annoy parts of that game and it’s better for it.
Got Noelle in that free roll thing and she’s... okay. I hear you have to really build her to make her work out well, but the free characters do everything they need to do well enough. Just hope there’s a free/cheap hydro user along the lines at some point.
Every character’s functions seems clear enough by their kit, which is nice. I do find everyone a little too simple for my liking in terms of their function and kits, but they work well enough. I feel like one more elemental skill would be nice.
Story Thoughts
Only got through enough of the story to get Kaeya, Lisa, and Amber and do Amber’s first(?) story quest, but so far everything works out okay and doesn’t feel too ridiculous.
Aether/Lumine don’t suffer from the same issues I have with the Doctor from Arknights, which is very good. I wish they actively talked more in the story though, especially since they talked a lot in the intro cutscene.
The storyline itself seems simple enough and good excuse to have the Traveler explore and learn about the world while trying to find/reach their missing sibling. Very little seems like it doesn’t have a purpose or is too much of a diversion from the main quest so far.
Gacha Thoughts
For those of you the read my last essay/opinion piece on gacha games, yes, that 0.6% gacha rate bothers me something fierce. And unlike Arknights I haven’t found anything in the game’s pity system or other mechanics yet to give Genshin Impact a similar exception. If not for my nagging curiosity I would had seen that 0.6% and immediately deleted this game from my hard drive.
That said, the free-to-play party functions well enough so far and I can make it work. A free/cheap Hydro character along the way would be nice as well to have the tools to mess around with all the elements, but the free team is good in terms of function.
The one thing I can say is that I understand the harsh gacha rates from a business angle, as Genshin Impact is a much more complex game than other gacha titles and requires much more energy and time built into every character, as these aren’t basic sprites and PNGs. However, I’m still gonna’ stick to my guns in regards to how I view this as a gacha game and I can’t say I’ll be playing this game past March unless something really wows me into staying.
And those are all my immediate thoughts on the game. So far I like, might keep playing it throughout March, but can’t say I’ll continue past that much, nor can I recommend it until I play through more of it.
