Sorry to bother, but where do autistic and adhd brains overlap? Because both are neurodivergent (and beautiful, I agree) But how can I find out which behaviour belongs more to me being autistic (got diagnosed this year) and which is adhd? (No Matter What Deadline, after several years in hostile environment (failed university, then call center work) I panic. Hard.) How do I disentangle adhd and autism to find out what strategies to use to function better?

Please don’t feel like you’re being a bother, because you’re not! Honestly the fact that someone is coming to me to ask ADHD questions makes me teary-eyed, because I’ve fought so hard to learn to function with ADHD that people Asking Me Things like I’m a trusted expert just makes my heart grow three sizes, the opposite of the Grinch.

I’m probably not the best person to ask about how ADHD and autism overlap specifically, especially if you’re taking this from an autistic POV. And I’m also not a behavioral expert, which is a very strong preface. But I can (and am very happy to) talk a bit about my experiences with ADHD and how I’ve learned to make things work for my brain.

I’m going to put this under a cut, if that’s okay with you, anon. It got kind of long and I don’t want to overrun anyone’s dash. And you can always, always ask me ADHD questions, and I’ll try my best to answer.

My ADHD tends to manifest specifically in the following ways:

Extreme hyperfixation that has its own varying degrees (e.g., I’m really into Fire Emblem: Three Houses, but I have so lack of interest in Byleth/Claude that my lack of interest feels like an actual void)

An inability to process feelings regarding things other people care strongly about that I don’t. If we’re using the same fandom example: I could rant forever about how Byleth/Edelgard gives me ALL THE FEELS, but if I friend I care about started to talk about Byleth/Claude, I would immediately lose all interest in the conversation and struggle to react in a way that doesn’t present me as a selfish monster who doesn’t care about the person I’m talking to.

I tend to monopolize conversation if I’m given the opportunity because I LOVE getting the chance to talk about my hyperfixations. If someone cuts me off when I’m really into a topic, I get incredibly irritated and have to try to restrain from myself from acting petty in response. The number of times I have smiled my mouth is a knife and said, “ANYWAY, as I WAS SAYING…” is beyond count.

I don’t recognize or remember people until I have something meaningful to associate them with. I also don’t tend to notice things that don’t clock themselves as Important in my brain. I usually describe this as “background furniture.” Even PEOPLE become background furniture. A girl I work with mentioned a person on her team had quit, and I’d literally walked by that person’s desk earlier that day and didn’t notice it was empty, because that person and the entire space they occupied was background scenery.

If something affects or touches me personally, it hits me Very Personally. I had a complete fucking breakdown watching the video of Philando Castille’s shooting, because I heard his daughter crying while she watched him getting shot and went down onto a spiral of personal loss over my own father to gun violence and started to immediately correlate the two. Separating ADHD brainness from my whiteness is complex and hard and (said sarcastically) so, so much fun.

The direct inverse of that are things like: I’m talking to my mom, who’s telling me about a high school friend of hers just got into a horrific vehicle accident and is in the ICU. My mom then goes on to give me regular status updates on this woman I don’t know. I get out of work, and she talks about this woman’s surgery. I get out of work, and she talks about this woman’s family’s attempt to find an adequate rehab center. They find a rehab center, and my mom shows me how her friend decorated her daughter’s room. My mom shows me a video of the girl working with a physical therapist, who gets her to push herself upright with a walker and take her tentative steps. “Awesome!” my brain thinks. “Great!” my brain thinks. All of it spans over several days, weeks, months. I have nothing to do with this constant influx of information. I don’t know how my brain should file it. I don’t know this woman who was injured. I feel for her in theory because no one should ever have to go through that even though so many people do, but I haven’t ACTIVELY PRETEND like I personally am invested in the situation or else my mother gives me Concerned Eyes because I seem to be In A Bad Mood Today.

When it comes to organization, I tend to lean towards hyper-organization rather than hypo-organization. By which I mean I over-organize to combat the fact that ADHD often results in disorganization, and disorganization results in chaos, and chaos gives me COMPLETE PANIC ATTACKS. At work at one point, I had my emails auto-tagging every incoming email based on the email type, on top of tagging for my clients. Every label had a different color, and it all made sense to me, because I’d made it. When my team had cover my stuff on a day I was out, my inbox was such a horror show that it left them feeling drained and distressed.

Let’s talk about socialization! I have a rocky relationship with my childhood best friend. When I discovered social justice in college, I started picking fights with everyone over everything Problematique. The first major fight I had with my best friend at the time was because she felt I was over-aggressive towards a mutual male friend of ours. She was probably right, because I know the kind of bullying behavior I later developed. I thought I learned from it. After the 2016 election, I messaged her on FB, thinking I had a sympathetic ear, to say that seeing her mother post constant messages of support for Trump and sharing stuff dismissing Trump’s sexual assault allegations was particularly hurtful considering I’d told my friend that my mom had been sexually assaulted.. I’m not going to share what she said, but she wasn’t in the wrong. We didn’t talk for several months after that.

Speaking of her! When she started dating the guy she’s now married to, at one point I asked her if they’d had sex yet. I asked it because I thought it was a thing you were Supposed To Talk About as friends, and also because I was, in a way, morbidly curious, because I’m grey-ace and queer. She confirmed that they had, but I still felt so icky and uncomfortable about that for so long afterwards. It was only after I started to understand that I’m not cis and not allo that I really understood why: I was forcing myself to perform what I thought female friendship was based on how it’s portrayed in media, and it’s only once I began to understand that I’m on the ace spectrum and that I’m nonbinary that I really started to understand how forced mainstream conversations of attraction are.

I’m loud! I’m loud! I’m loud! I’m loud all the time! I live with my mom and I socialize with my mom and when we’re in public spaces and I’m talking about something that interests me, she always, always, always feels like she has to shush me. What makes it ironic? If there are other people being loud around me, I can’t function. I can’t process the noise. It’s EVEN WORSE if they’re speaking in another language, because if it’s English I can process the words at least, but if it’s another language, it’s just pure, inescapable sound that I know has meaning but can’t intuit, and if I can’t understand something, that’s as bad as dying.

From what I’ve read about autism, here are ways I THINK my ADHD traits overlap with autistic traits:

I can’t read facial expressions. I think I have a better concept of emotional nuance in facial expressions than someone who’s strictly autistic, but I’ll still panic when I see a smile that isn’t bland enough. RDS (rejection-sensitive dysphoria) will kick in. They hate me, they hate me, they hate me, is the track my brain will play on repeat until I’ve drunk myself into oblivion. Whenever someone smiles, I mistrust it immediately.

Eye contact is incredibly fucking frustrating. I understand that it’s expected, but it’s SO UNCOMFORTABLE. Why do we need to stare into each other’s eyes to understand one another? How can you people write whole treatises on the sanctity of locking gazes and finding an instant intellectual bond without realizing that eye contact that’s not called for is personally invasive?

I can’t understand flirting vs not flirting to the point that I’m absolutely paranoid someone is flirting with me, at which point I usually become hostile if I think they ARE, because DON’T FLIRT WITH ME. TALK to me!

I hate, hate, hate unsolicited physical contact. If I’m in a state of over-expression, I hate it even more. I’m not physically withdrawn, because I love hugs, and cuddles, and human touch. But when I’ve spent the entire day listening to other people talk and I have to walk into a room where people continue to talk, if someone touches me, it’s fucking No-Oh-One.

Someone is interested in a thing I’m interested in. We’ll use Persona 5 as the concept, because this honestly happened recently. I talk with the guy whose desk is across from mine about Persona 5 all the time. He’s also excited about Royal. I started going into my Sophia theory that I’ve really only lobbied at @softspokensansa. I could see, I could viscerally see, the interest drain from his expression. BUT I HAVE AN IDEA SO I WILL TALK ABOUT IT ANYWAY, and then afterwards I felt incredibly resentful that I was being filtered through a cookie-cutter drain.

It’s painful–it’s really painful!–to try to talk about my spiritual ideas with other people. I have a side blog I just started and am preppy myself to share, and I’m absofuckinglutely TERRIFIED everyone is going to write me off without looking at what I have to say. IT’S THE RSD AGAIN! Nothing I ever said has actually mattered before, so why should it now?

I feel, constantly, like I’m halfway between a point of reality and a point of something. What that something is is indefinable, but regardless of it, I exist.

I’d like to direct you to two very positive youtubers I know; I meant to do this earlier, but now feels right in terms of how I’ve written: How To ADHD and Amethyst Schaber.I credit both of them in helping me find a safe place with ADHD before diagnosis. There are stories other than yours that matter.

I wish you the best, anon! If you think you’re autistic and ADHD: given the comorbidity between the two, you probably are! And ADHD is just as beautiful, complicated, and misunderstood as autism is.

Hello! Not sure if other people asked you about this already but have you read Ashihara's comment for this Jump SQ issue? In Viz's translation he said "20-page increments", what does that exactly mean? Or is this a mistranslation?

Hi back! First, some apologies as I have been on Tumblr even less recently. Some of it is me being distracted (and let me take this chance to thank the people who were very understanding about my distractions and other nice messages! 1. I always enjoy noticeable character growth, and their last match didn't really show much of how Azuma squad's Attackers learned from their experience in the Invasion, so it's nice to see it being highlighted here. I really hope we get a double POV with both the expedition and what the ones left behind are doing because I'd love to see more of Azuma squad once they've dabbled more with sub-triggers since I doubt they’ll be going on the expedition (and the thing is, in another manga it'd probably cut straight to Azuma squad showing up later with new sub-triggers and a short flashback to let us know they started due to the results of this match, but because this is World Trigger it's seeded early in the story to be expanded on in the future)

2. As usual, there are some interesting parallels between Tamakoma and the other teams - this time both Osamu (and Yuuma's) protectiveness of Chika like Suzunari's protectiveness of Kuruma get used against them. In fact, Azuma in general acts a lot like Tamakoma squad has been up until now: creating a target Tamakoma has to react to (what happened to Arafune squad in R2), making his enemies think he's somewhere then popping up somewhere else (what happened to Akane in R3) etc etc

3. The thing is, Osamu's reasoning isn't even wrong necessarily, about the importance of Chika to their strategy. The problem is that this reasoning of Osamu's is really noticeable (to both Arashiyama and Inukai) and really obviously being used by Azuma. Guaranteeing a way for opponents to make Osamu act in a specific way is just asking for trouble (and that's basically Tamakoma's main strategy). Of course, Tamakoma also knows Azuma just as well, and at least Yuuma is always there making up for Osamu's actions.

4. Back on the subject of parallels, we also have Kitazoe and Hus and how their actions managed to benefit their team even as they bailout.

5. A good reminder from Azuma about making sure their trion can hold up to new triggers, since Koarai at 4 has one of the lowest (in fact, he's tied last of the Border characters we have trion values for, except for Osamu the exception of course), but if Kitora can be an A-rank Allrounder with that then I'm sure Koarai will be fine.

5. Also some nice parallels to Ninomiya and Izumi's first conversation in-story as well, with Ninomiya using the exact wording even.

6. In conclusion, is it just me or is Tsuji's jacket shiny...? Is this a Koma-san fashion disaster again, or just what Ashihara thinks happens with boys who can't talk to girls?

On unreality, this somewhat relates to the above, I use this as a catch all phrase for images, vivid descriptions, and most especially videos/gifs of things that basically don’t behave or seem to behave as they should. Sometimes, I’ve seen these things tagged as “trippy” and the like, but they those posts tend to be too…idk how to put it. Extra? What tends to get me is when things are going fairly linear and then suddenly go for a loop. Hayner is a young lad who resides in the sleepy Twilight Town. He is described as “impulsive and determined, and is always looking for a new adventure. He is bold to the point of recklessness…He gets bored easily during uneventful times… also easily angered/irked…thirsts for some kind of recognition…” During the events of KHII, he is 15, the same as Roxas/Sora. He has deep brown eyes, dirty blond hair and is a bit tall and, while still skinny, muscular for his age. He is the leader of his quartet trio including Pence, Olette and Roxas himself.

While he does have parents, he’s rather distant from them. While he does receive support from his folks, they were just never really there. Because of this, his loyalties lie greatly with his chosen family, his friends. He considers it his duty to help, lead and, if needed, protect them, even if he’d never admit as much even to himself. If any of his actions or ideas end up hurting someone he cares about, he takes it very much to heart, often beating himself up about it for weeks and weeks after.

Hayner, despite his hotheadedness and brashness, is a very observant leader. His tough guy act, while not entirely based on this, is partially to build himself up, make other less inclined to pick fights with him and his friends. Whether or not this works out, however, is certainly debatable. He also does his best to incorporate his friends’ wants and needs– or at least what he perceives these as– into his plans.

As oblivious as he may seem, he is quite mindful of the people around him. Whether it’s picking out the shady figure on that street corner or this one, or noticing some random kid’s not having a good day - he sees a lot of it, but often it doesn’t strike as a huge priority. He thinks things through a lot more than he’s credited for, but unfortunately, he doesn’t go through the whole process before starting his plan of action.

Hayner also isn’t exactly the most social person. He is outgoing and nice to people out of politeness and giving people the benefit of the doubt, but as a whole he’d much rather just stick with his friends. The only exception to this has been Sora, as he feels a “familiar vibe” about him, and therefore is also open to his circle of friends.

A couple more misc hcs below:

Is a very exceptional swordsman (at least with the training swords). However, his skills do not seem as outstanding compared to that of Roxas and other more major characters.

As much as he hates school, his best subject science. And although one would think he’d be a good athlete because he is competitive, he actually doesn’t have good PE grades because he doesn’t try if he doesn’t have to. The only way to get him to really participate is to make it a competition.

Hello everyone! Toby here, the blog runner and artist behind it all. Sorry to post another OOC thing, but this i think it’s really important i do this because i REALLY wanna get back into the swing of having sonic, amy, and shadow answer shit but there’s something i need to get out of the way first. TLDR: i’m making some retcons for some stuff so i can get this blog back on track, and also gonna clean my inbox out so i update more regularly

I know i probably sound like a broken record at this point, but i wanted to once again apologize for all the inactivity. i’ve been... busy with other things like irl stuff, drawing things for myself and working on some biiiig projects so my art motivation has been other places. however, those are not the only reasons i’ve been on standby. i have a bit of a confession to make, and i’m gonna need y’all to hear me out on this...

i’m kinda stuck?

see, regarding the last couple updates i made with this blog (regarding sonic and amy’s situation), i kinda feel like i ran myself into a corner in a way. originally, i saw this as an opportunity to throw in some nice character development for amy and sonic’s friendship since that kinda stuff is my ultimate jam, and i wanted to flex my amy headcanon’s too. i’ve seen other ask blogs do stuff like that before and thought it would be a fun thing to try out since this is well, kinda my first time running a successful ask blog O.O

but it didn’t really occur to me until after i posted the answered ask that while i may love that kind of stuff, it’s not really...the theme i previously established for this blog? this blog is mostly a parody ask blog for silly doodles, memes, cute asks, and satire humor with a little bit of ambiguous shipping thrown into the mix (its up to the viewer’s interpretation really)

the characters on this ask blog having drama and emotional flair ups and essentially things being taken seriously like the last couple updates isn’t really what i had envisioned for this blog when i started it, and now that i’ve laid out this situation for amy and sonic... i feel like i’ve strayed away from what the big picture is. plus, it also ended up with shadow being a bit of a third wheel which is what i dont want, either. all characters on this ask blog are important and what make their interactions so fun.

i’ve been debating on if i wanted to just continue on with this well...story that’s kinda snowballed and let it sort itself out, but the more i think about it the more unmotivated i become because honestly speaking, i don’t really have the time or energy to keep a consistent plot moving for a blog like this. ^^; (another reason why this was originally just a parody blog)

and well... i’ve come to the conclusion that if i wanna continue this blog the way i wanna continue it, then i’m gonna have to do some unfortunate retconning. now this isn’t because i dislike sonic and amy having character development on their friendship (because chaos knows i love it), i just don’t feel the theme that post has to it fits here on this blog’s overall vibe. it just doesn’t work here. and i’m really sorry if that post was what you came here for DX i promise it was never my intention to trick anyone into thinking this blog was something else...

that being said, i’m gonna take the last two posts down. i’m sorry to say... but i want this blog to be an overall place of humor and fun and i want the theme to stay as consistent as i can make it. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean the sonic and amy post will be no longer available to view! i plan to reupload it to my art blog so it can be its OWN self contained little thing, because personally i think its short and sweet enough in it’s own right to exist as its own little comic, i guess :O plus, it would be a little awkward to add shadow in with the ending i gave it...

sorry about this guys ^^; i hope you can understand, this blog has been a learning experience for me and well, we all make mistakes sometimes. even if some people don’t perceive them as real mistakes... i have a better understanding of how i want to portray sonic, amy and shadow on this blog now. i think that is what’s important :O if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to message me through instant messenger! i’d rather not talk about it through asks since that is more for answering questions for sonic/amy/shadow :O if you do send me an ask about it... i’ll probably delete it. sorry ^^; thats just gonna be the way it is (for now), because i really wanna cut back on the OOC posts.

“POPCORN” is the keyword that gets placed in the body of the message.

“555555” is the shortcode that gets put in the recipient box.

When a customer sends that message, they’re “opting in” to your campaign. It’s as easy as that.

From there you can do a few different things.

Go ahead and send them a single, automated response to follow up and let them know what to expect next. Or you can just add them to a list that will send additional texts over time.

There are other ways to get customers to opt-in. Let them check a box on an order form or

submit their phone numbers online

Numbers received this last way have to be confirmed, however, since a customer could always enter a number incorrectly.

So before you add them to a campaign, you’ll have to confirm their participation with another message.

For example, you could send. “Text ‘YES’ to receive weekly coupons.”

Once they’ve opted in, customers can also respond to your messages with sub-keywords.

For example, sending the phrase “Hours” could trigger an automated text to send business hours, and “Stop” could remove the subscriber from the list.

Allowing customers to use sub-keywords gives them a way to interact with your business. It also enables them to opt-out of your campaign if they wish to stop receiving messages.

Once you’ve got the basics down, you can tap into creative ideas — like Chipotle’s game, which we covered earlier.

Mobile texting tactics are diverse.

However, they should be pretty familiar if you’ve already run

For example, you can send coupons, drive traffic, or engage people through fun, simple games.

Here are some of the best potential uses for SMS marketing.

SMS Marketing Tip #1. Coupons and Exclusive Deals

Start by creating uniquely-generated coupon codes to prevent non-subscribers from taking advantage of your deal.

That way, people have to subscribe to save.

Redbox also takes advantage of “add to wallet.”

It’s giving you a simple one-click option to hook up your phone’s payment system with its offer.

Plus, the subscriber gets an extra incentive for taking this additional step. Customers don’t have to take an extra step to pay when they want to rent movies.

Drip campaigns

are automated messages sent based on specific factors, such as how long someone has been a customer.

Think of this as just another form of

In the context of coupons, for example, you could send a 5 percent off coupon right after the subscriber signs up, a 10 percent coupon after three weeks, and a 20 percent off coupon after two months.

After you’ve set your target audience, budget, and placements, head down to the lead form option to set up your ad and collect phone numbers.

Here’s what the finished product should look like.

Now you get a multi-step form that doesn’t bombard the user with an instant information grab.

Instead, it uses multiple steps to warm them up to your offer.

Pretty cool, right?

Here’s what the second step of the form looks like.

Once you’ve configured your settings, you’ve got a simple way to collect phone numbers immediately.

That means you’re almost ready to start getting your first SMS campaign off the ground.

How to Automate SMS Marketing

Since we’re into the idea of working smarter and not harder, I suggest automating the SMSM marketing process.

Let’s face it: Marketing automation saves precious time you can spend

growing your business.

For example, you don’t have to manually export and import lead data. Instead, you can use a tool like

Zapier

to quickly build out an automated process.

Zapier connects with just about every marketing software you can think of, including MailChimp, Gmail, Facebook Ads, Slack, and many of the biggest CRMs on the market.

So if you get a few people submitting phone numbers in your Facebook lead ads, you can send them directly to your CRM, your messaging platform, and even various SMS marketing platforms. All at the same time!

Here’s a few of the texting apps they work with, or you can

search here.

Let’s dive straight in, shall we?

First, select Facebook Lead Ads from the workflow ideas list.

Next, select it as your trigger.

So whenever a lead fills out your lead capture form, it will trigger the following action that you want to set.

I’ll show you how to set that up in one second. But it could be anything from sending that lead form information to your CRM to connecting it to your SMS marketing software.

Now, let’s select this action once you’ve connected your Facebook account to Zapier’s workflow.

The action determines what happens with the data from your lead forms.

For example, you can instantly add a new lead to your SMS app of choice. Then you can even automate the first message that will go out to them after they’re added.

All of this automation saves you countless hours of manually transferring data and information.

Hello! I hope its okay to ask! I'm currently making a rp group that I hope to open next week, but the more and more I work on it. The more and more I feel like its going to fail, not because I don't love the plot or the bios I'm writing up! Just because I think people won't take it as serious as me, or even hate it! Do you have any tips or advice that could help me out?

hey there sweetpea!! you’re fine, don’t worry. so, this is a problem i think most people go through including myself (&& that’s coming from an admin that’s had multiple long lasting rps on && off tumblr, including some that had been open for more than a year). the tips i can give you only work if you don’t give up after being open for a day && seeing no apps in the inbox, so keep in mind that these rely heavily on your own dedication to your rp. these are in no particular order.

REALIZE IT WILL BE TOUGH. for some admins, this can be their fatal flaw. they don’t realize that building a community takes time and, after the first few days with seemingly no response from the rpc, they give up. there may be a select few rpgs that have instant success and lots of attention from jump, but you never need to expect your experience to be the same as someone else’s. expect that you will have to go days and days without applications or questions, but don’t give up hope that as long as you stick with it, they will come. basically, as my mama says, “hope for the best, but always prepare for the worst.” remember that you are trying to build a long lasting home for writers to enjoy staying in, so that will take time, dedication, and effort from you as an admin.

REACH OUT TO RPTS/RPHS FOR OPINIONS AND SHOUTOUTS OFTEN. when you ask a rpt/rph for an opinion, expect some criticism back. seriously consider making changes in areas they mention, but ultimately whether or not you do is up to you. do not stop asking for opinions / shoutouts or sending in promos to different rpts when you get a comfortable number of people in your group. just because it’s booming now, doesn’t mean your member count can’t drop significantly on a dime. you want to keep your rpg’s name in the rpc as frequently as you can so no one forgets it exists.

BE PROFESSIONAL AND POLITE. unfortunately, some people are going to come off as rude in your main’s inbox from time to time, but do not let them get under your skin. you will be well respected and liked as an admin if you remain as calm, professional, and polite as possible. this does not mean bend to their will, but always look for the most polite way to respond to them. keep in mind that a lot of the times, potential applicants will read other messages and determine what kind of an admin you are, and if you’re rude or unprofessional, they may be deterred from joining your group.

A PROMO BLOG WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE. the promo blog will need to be queued often, but it’s the most effective way to keep your rpg in the tags at all times, so rpers from all over the world can see your ad at any given time. adjust your queue settings to something you’re comfortable with, but i recommend no less than 30 a day. do not slack off of the promo queue ever.

EXPECT DRY PERIODS. every rp has them. expect a time or times that it will seem like nothing is going on. the dash is slower, you’re not getting apps or questions, and you may feel like the roleplay is dying. this is not true. members rely heavily on the admins of a group to keep it alive, so do not give up on your group if you think it’s slipping into a dry period, just remember that it will pick up again. these can happen several times a year: school semesters, holidays, vacation season etc etc.

FOLLOW YOUR OWN RULES. i see way too many admins not following their own rules, and it’s mostly their own activity rule. keep in mind that you are the very first member in your rp, and the face of your rp. other members will expect you to set the bar for how to act on the dash. if you’re going inactive and not following the rules you set, then so will the others.

DO NOT GIVE UP ON IT. this is the last tip, but it’s ultimately the most important. it’s been mentioned several times, but i believe i should say it a few more. if you are truly passionate about this rpg and the bios and you really want it to last, then you can not allow yourself to become discouraged and give up. you have to be dedicated and active on the main, keep it updated and be around as much as possible, answer questions as soon as they come in, keep the promo queue full, and do not sweat the small stuff. if you don’t get 20+ apps on the first day you hit the tags, don’t make yourself believe you’re a failure. barely any rps that last longer than a week get instant attention. you have to believe in yourself as an admin and as the creator of the rp that you can make it work and you have to refuse to let it fail. don’t be afraid to introduce an idea that you love to the rpc, and as long as you work hard at keeping the place alive and active, applicants will come.

that is all of the advice that i can give you, but i will extend a few offers to you. i do opinions, shoutouts, && promos on this blog. if you need any of those things, don’t be afraid to come to me again && i’ll help you in any way that i am able! i truly wish you the best && hope to see your new rp killin’ it in the community soon!!

You guys maybe could, but probably can’t understand just how much people asking my stupid characters questions actually means to me. Or how like, just in general wanting to write with me/being supportive even if our muses haven’t interacted yet or just being here changed my goddamn life. I have been working on these marines on and off since 2012. I made scum in 2009, and she was a loyalist at the time. Just functioning as an avatar. Clearly things changed a lot for me since.

Those of you that follow my personal blog have probably seen me be big and vague about a long stint of emotional abuse, from two particular people, and I’m sadly not here to clarify much on that, just that it more or less stunted my growth as a writer, and as an artist, as well as socially emotionally blahblahblah it fucked me up and it still fucks me up from time to time. I gave up drawing for something like 5 years when I used to draw every day. I had only dabbled in creative writing beforehand and the rest of it was just telling myself stories in my head or instant-messaging roleplaying with people I could explicitly trust (and, obviously, some I really shouldn’t have.)

I wasn’t able to imagine a life where I could show the world my work and actually have anybody care, or like it. Not fanart, that always has an audience, but... my things. Or want to hear more about them. Or actually want to smooch my boys instead of just treating them like some kind of fucking....extension of their personal property and some smutt toy. Or think that my once shameful avatar was compelling enough to let her have an arc and be more than just a moe blob.

Like, this thing that I’m living right now is basically akin to wild fantasy. I don’t know how to describe how impossible this all feels.

and people are willing to let me be slow and nervous and figure this shit out on my own time

Basically, I owe ... a lot, of this recent progress in my mental health to you guys. When my tumblr first blew up I was scared. I panicked and cried a lot. I had nightmares that I would become immediately struck down because I drew something wrong, or that I was trying too hard to be funny. I had actual nightmares about waking up and seeing my inbox full of people telling me to kill myself, and having no idea what I’d done.

But that didn’t happen. People calmly poked me and waited, even if I started crying in complete terror just trying to hold a conversation. People let me settle in and find footing and (mostly) didn’t pressure me. I drew more and more. I drew more than the last 4 years combined in June/July. People started...to ask...me stuff. On my personal blog. Like they actually wanted to talk to me and I just...

Was this... real? I don’t know. I wanted it to be because I liked it. I liked being talked to, or just feeling like my dumb opinion mattered. Even if its just the same anon because I can’t prove its not, haha.

All of it’s culminated in a person that I’m happier to wake up being. I am slowly getting more confident with my writing even if I still panic and edit 2 1/2 paragraphs for six hours sometimes and finally moving ahead with characters that have been sitting in rough concept stages for years. Like... fuck guys. Even when I’m burnt out, I don’t want to stop, and I think that I can even keep going.

It wracks my brain in a good way, trying to wonder what you all see in me because I still don’t see this good person or talent you talk about, but I’m getting better and better at not doubting that people mean it when they say it and... and that, for me, is huge.

So just... Thank you.

By March 2019, Google Inbox, one of Google’s email platforms, will be shut down, with most of its features to be integrated into Gmail. Launched to the public in 2015, Inbox was the platform in which some of Google’s experimental email features were explored, with some of them receiving praise for being innovative and reliable.

With some Inbox features about to arrive in the new Gmail, it is worth taking a look at some of its most popular features and see how it will affect Gmail as a whole. Here are some key features that are bound to arrive soon or have already arrived on our Gmail accounts.

Snooze Emails

One of Google Inbox’s most well-known features is the ability to snooze emails. This allows users to be able to temporarily move certain emails out of their inbox and have the option to check on them at a later time. To make sure that you will not completely forget to read these snoozed emails, users can set up reminders for each email, which helps make it more efficient.

With Gmail most likely going to receive this feature, this comes in very handy, as it ensures that you will not get swamped with the number of emails that you need to view, and only view a specific set of emails for the time being. While this feature may still need updates and refinement to craft longer and more elaborate replies, having this option makes communication much more efficient, and with Google improving their AI technology, expect Smart Replies to become even smarter.

Mail Bundling

Perhaps the most important feature that is yet to be fully integrated into Gmail, Mail Bundles are a standard Google Inbox feature. This feature allows users to group incoming emails based on urgency, which allows you to view emails in a more organized manner and making sure that you would be able to reply to the most important message first. While Gmail has its own way of bundling emails, it is not as refined as the one on Google Inbox.

Having a more refined bundling system on Gmail makes going through emails more manageable and keeps each email to a specific category. For example, if I want to separate emails related to work, I can create individual folders for each part of my team, and even our clients. Having a more organized email inbox would allow us to work as a team more effectively, and make sure every need would be addressed without fail.

By now, you’ve probably heard the story.

Last week, an actress and photographer, Rosey Blair, asked to switch seats with a woman on a plane from New York to Dallas so that she could sit next to her boyfriend. Blair proceeded to live-tweet as she observed the woman and her new seatmate chat and eventually start flirting, discussing their mutual love of working out and subtly touching elbows, all details captured and posted by Blair. Her thread went mega-viral, racking up 900,000 likes, getting picked up by national news outlets and earning Blair thousands of new followers.

Many initially thought the story was adorable, even if others found it creepy and intrusive. Then the incident took an even darker turn.

An online hunt began to find the identities of the couple, now identified by the hashtag #PlaneBae. The man, a former professional soccer player named Euan Holden, embraced the media circus, but the woman, uncomfortable with the newfound spotlight, hesitated. That didn’t stop the online mob from tracking her down. She began receiving crass, sexually explicit messages in the comments of her personal Instagram profile.

She deactivated her social media accounts and declined an invitation to go on the Today show. Blair and Holden appeared without her. No one asked her if she had any reservations or concerns about being made part of a viral story. All she did was board a plane and chat with her seatmate. Now she is a public figure, a hashtag, and a target. Millions of strangers on the internet want to know about her personal life.

The erosion of the division between public and private has been coming for a while now. Maybe it started with reality television and the dramatic storylines broadcast to millions about people just like you falling in love. (Though those people willingly signed up to become public figures.) Maybe it was already in the works before then: People have always turned other people’s lives into public spectacle regardless of their will.

When I was 22, I wrote my first paid article for a publication on the internet. My essay, written under my own name, was about what it was like to date with genital herpes. I expected maybe a few thousand people to read it on the Women’s Health website; it wasn’t even going in the physical magazine. At the time, I was an intern at a media company, less than a year out of college, and my only brush with fame was as a 13-year-old writer of moderately popular Harry Potter fanfiction.

The herpes article went viral. Not just “few thousand retweets” viral — I mean invitations to go on daytime television viral. Two days after my essay went up on Women’s Health, I was featured in a trending article on the Washington Post website. It was aggregated from there on Yahoo, Jezebel, and eventually even The Daily Mail, where an enterprising staffer tracked down my private Facebook profile and raided it for photographs to use in their article.

There I was, smiling brightly in a picture my mother had taken as my father blew out his birthday candles. Of course, they cropped my father out, leaving me grinning and alone as hundreds of Daily Mail readers wrote comments underneath attacking my character. This slut, this shameful whore. She should kill herself for having an STI.

The next year I would find myself at the center of a new controversy when Genius, a well-funded startup that mostly writes annotations on song lyrics, launched a new tool allowing their users to annotate any website, anywhere. I wrote a blog post detailing why I thought the product was unethical, as it ignored the consent of the website creator and let strangers essentially scrawl graffiti on our intellectual property. I was also concerned it would be yet another tool in the hands of abusers, stalkers, and harassment mobs to come after me on my personal blog; since going viral, I had spent a year receiving horrifying sexual emails from strangers.

Sam Biddle, writing for Gawker, found my case unconvincing. His argument boiled down to my status as a public figure. “It’s brave and noble of Dawson to publicly try to combat the stigma of STD infection,” he wrote. “But when she writes ‘we need more voices to challenge the single narrative of herpes,’ she’s already acknowledging her place in public—it’s right there in the ‘we.’ If you want to advocate for a cause in front of an audience (and judging by the fact that her website has a ‘Press’ section, I’m assuming she does), you have to take what comes with it. Dawson says she has a blog ‘to have total control of how I write and who interacts with me.’ If only this were possible! Unfortunately, this is a fantasy, and will always be so.”

Chelsea Hassler, writing for Slate, argued the contrary position: That as a blogger with a few articles published, I was not someone who rose to the level of a “public figure.” I was an individual, an amateur. She wrote, “There’s a substantive difference between critiquing the work of a professional journalist or blogger and critiquing the writing of an individual who is using her blog as an outlet to communicate with other likeminded people.”

People like me pose a challenge to traditional understandings of the public-private divide. I write about my personal life, and sometimes I get paid to do so. I have fewer than 20,000 followers on Twitter. I’ve had a handful of short stories published in anthologies by indie houses and my blog has steady traffic, but I don’t have a Wikipedia page. Would you consider me a public figure? At what point did I become one? Would it change your mind if I told you I’ve never wanted to be one?

I don’t think there is any such thing as a “private person” anymore. The vast majority of us constantly groom our internet presence, choosing the right filter on Instagram for our brunch and taking polls of our friends about our next Facebook profile picture.

We don’t think about this as a public act when we have only 400 connections on LinkedIn or 3,000 followers on Tumblr. No one imagines the Daily Mail write-up or the Jezebel headline. We actively create our public selves, every day, one social media post at a time. Little kids dream of becoming famous YouTubers the same way I wanted to be a published author when I was 12.

But there are also those of us who don’t choose this. We keep our accounts locked, our Instagram profile set to “friends only.” Maybe we learned a lesson when a post took off and left the safe haven of our community, picked apart in a horrifying display of context collapse by strangers who we didn’t intend to speak to. Maybe we are hiding from something: a stalker, an abusive ex, our family members who don’t know our true queer identity. To some of us, privacy is vital.

A woman boarded a plane in New York and stepped off that plane in Dallas. She chatted with a stranger, showed him some family photos, brushed his elbow with her own. At no point did she agree to participate in the story Rosey Blair was telling. After the fact, when the hunt began and the woman took no part in encouraging it the way Holden did, Blair tweeted a video in which she drawled, “We don’t have the gal’s permish yet, not yet y’all, but I’m sure you guys are sneaky, you guys might…” And her followers did not disappoint.

When people called Blair out for this blatant invasion of privacy, she blocked them. Because she, apparently, wanted to control her own boundaries. Later she tweeted about wanting a job at BuzzFeed.

I don’t know what the woman on the plane is thinking or feeling. I don’t know if she’s afraid or angry or mildly amused but inconvenienced. But I know how it feels to see strangers scrawling obscenities on social media accounts and email inboxes you once considered safe, commenting alongside your friends and family members. I know the sour humiliation of knowing everyone in your life can see that strangers have written about you — your parents, your co-workers, your exes.

Even when the attention is positive, it is overwhelming and frightening. Your mind reels at the possibility of what they could find: your address, if your voting records are logged online; your cellphone number, if you accidentally included it on a form somewhere; your unflattering selfies at the beginning of your Facebook photo archive. There are hundreds of Facebook friend requests, press requests from journalists in your Instagram inbox, even people contacting your employer. This story you didn’t choose becomes the main story of your life.

There is no opting-in, no consent form, no opportunity to take it all back. It feels like you are drowning as everyone on the beach applauds your swimming prowess. What do you have to complain about? Why wouldn’t you want publicity?

It’s clear that to Blair, the violation of this woman’s privacy is less important than Blair’s growing platform and ambition. It is not a romantic comedy for the digital age. It is an act of dehumanization.

A friend of mine asked if I’d thought through the contradiction of criticizing Blair publicly like this, when she’s another not-quite public figure too. But Blair is not just posting about her own life; she has taken non-consenting parties along for the ride. While Blair uploads gorgeous Instagram photos to celebrate her body on her birthday (I say this genuinely: You go, girl), the woman on the plane has deleted her own Instagram account after receiving violent abuse from the army Blair created. As the content creator of this media circus, Blair is responsible for the behavior of its fans. When faced with the opportunity to discourage their privacy violations, she has done the opposite: “I’m sure you guys are sneaky.”

You become a public figure the instant that someone else decides you are worthy of interest, even if you are minding your damn business. Maybe you will tweet a joke. Maybe you will squint in a friend’s photograph. Maybe you will yodel in a Walmart. Or maybe you will board a plane.
