Miracles in December Special 2021 - Chapter Three

Chapter Three - Christmas Day Present

2021….

This is a devastating, disheartened year for you as you just broke up with your ex-boyfriend. He cheated you on another woman and they even get married. The weird thing is, he still sending you text messages asking how are you and such, disgusting yourself. You cried for a few days, and you are thankful for the emotional support from your friend and, you decide to tell D.O. and Kai about it too.

One night, you and Kai made a video call, asking about each other lives. “Kai!! How are you? Have you got vaccinated?” All of a sudden, Kai cries. You stunned. “I miss you Y/N! Come back here!!” And you can only laugh seeing his behaviour. “Y/N! I have been vaccinated too! The pandemic situation over here is worst now. Plus, with the new variants and all that….” You heard another voice, and soon after you see D.O. joining the conversation.

“I know right! It’s hard to predict when will all this ends…. Gosh, Y/N! How are you?” And you sigh hearing D.O.’s questions. Both of them sense your trouble, and ask you to share the troubles with them. You finally break down and cry while sharing the story with them. Kai and D.O. shake their head and try to comfort you the best they can. “Oh, wait. You got cheated. He got cheated too, right hyung?” Kai instantly raises a question, and you stop crying straight away. “Who got cheated?” you ask.

D.O. sighs. “Y/N, do you still remember last time we saw Baekhyun holding hands with a girl? Yeah, well, they got into a relationship around earlier in 2019. But, they also broke up towards the end of the same year.” You are shocked to hear the news and ask D.O. to tell you further. “The girl cheated on him. She still connecting with her ex-boyfriend and from what I heard and understand, she said she is not happy with Baekhyun because of his busy schedules and all that, and many more…. But yeah, that made Baekhyun feel so small since he’s a sensitive person. He’s like, he’s having trust issues with everyone right now.” D.O. continues. Kai added. “It’s called fate Y/N! You got cheated, Baekhyun hyung got cheated, that just means you are just meant to be together and the Heaven wanted you two to be together,” Kai continues, before D.O. smacks him on his shoulder.

You can only chuckle. “Guys, who will be discharged next year?” You immediately ask. D.O. almost answering you when Kai jumps and screams. “Yay!!!!!! Y/N will come next year!!!! Oh, no but I also get into the military next year? Oh, noooooo I can’t meet Y/N, my friend,” Kai’s mood changed in a split second. D.O. just shakes his head. “If I’m not mistaken, it will be Suho, Chen and Chanyeol? Yeah. Because Baekhyun hyung will be discharged in the year 2023. Why?” D.O. asks. “I’m thinking of visiting you all…. Or, good news I say? Next year, I will be an examiner at one of the universities in Seoul. I mean, if the pandemic subdues.”

You could see D.O. and Kai are delighted to see you again. However, this is too early to confirm; with the pandemic going on, it’s hard to travel even to Seoul. Thankfully you have completed your vaccination, and travelling to Seoul would be a step easier than before. You ask them to keep this from everyone first, and they agree to seal their lips. Despite being unsure about your decisions, you still ask him. “Kai? Can you help me with something?”

2022….

“It’s almost December….” Baekhyun sighs heavily while looking outside the base camp dorm window.

“Yup, and it’s almost time you discharge from military, hyung,” another voice replied him. He turns and sees Kai coming towards him. Baekhyun flashes a fake smile towards Kai. “Can’t believe it’s 2023 soon,” Kai continues, but Baekhyun keeps silent. “Hyung??” Kai calls and Baekhyun is surprised. “Hyung, you look miserable,” Kai continues. “I just…. miss her very much. Will she return….?” Baekhyun questioned in a weak voice, sighing while tears fell from his eyes. “I know she always keeps her promise. She will return, don’t worry hyung.”

Baekhyun chuckles. “Why all of you sounds so confident when talking about Y/N? Well, I know you may be excited since you have just released another album, but…. I also feel like, all of you talking to her every day”, Kai didn’t answer him, instead of taking out a letter and give to Baekhyun. “It’s for you”, then Kai leaves the room. Baekhyun closes the door, and start reading….

Dear Baekhyun,

Have you got vaccinated? Don’t forget to eat. Don’t forget to sleep. Go to the military properly. Discharge properly. Oops, you’re in the public service division, right? I don’t know how is the military life there. Do you need to return to the base camp?

If you receive this letter, that would be awesome. Because I thought Kai would be forgotten to give to you after a year later since he was also too excited hearing from me, ha-ha. Well, I purposely send it earlier. The nostalgia of sending letters, sending snail mails, waiting for the letter to get dusty…. Hmm, what am I talking about? Oh well, never mind.

It’s 2022. What’s your wish for this Christmas? I hope it all comes true.

See you again, Baekhyun. When I say I will return, I will usually return. You do know that I never break any promises I made since you were still a trainee.

Baekhyun’s heart is full of hope instantly. Are you coming this Christmas? Why are you making him wish for Christmas? Baekhyun overthinks, but silently wishes and prays for your return this Christmas since he knows that he will be taking off day during that time. “God, please let me see her again…. I miss her so, so, much. Please let me see her smile, please let me see her beautiful face, please let me see her hearty and cute giggles, please let me see her romantic side, please, allow us to feel love for each other again.”

One day….

“Tsk, yah! Hang that properly!” Xiumin scold Sehun for not doing the job as he asked. Chen tries to calm them down, while D.O., Chanyeol and you are in the kitchen dorm preparing meals for Christmas. “Are you excited to see him again?” Chanyeol suddenly asks you. D.O. looks at you too, making you anxious. “I don’t know. I feel weird and nervous somehow.” Both of them just smile. “I told you! It’s fate! It’s fate! Angels wanted you two to get together, as we all wish from day one!” Kai enters the kitchen, making a fuss over there. Right away, the three of you seem to think of a similar, so-call-evil plan. Kai tries to run seeing your reactions, but it’s too late.

They heard a bell ring at the door. “It’s Baekhyun! Baekhyun is coming! Hurry up! Hide Y/N, go!” Suho alerted the members. You followed Kai to the room, while everyone gathers in front of the door to celebrate Baekhyun’s entrance. “Guys, you celebrate me as I’ve just returned from the war…. Wow! Lay!! Gosh, wow, thank you for being able to spend Christmas with us,” Baekhyun flabbergasted seeing them and Lay as well, but they don’t care, as long as Baekhyun hasn’t seen you. They greeted each other, hugging each other. D.O. and Chanyeol place a meal at their big dining table, and they keep Baekhyun busy so that he won’t sense anything.

Meanwhile in the room….

“Okay, Y/N, I’ll do some tricks and small performance first, then when Lay and a few of the members standing, you go behind Lay, okay?” Kai instructs you, and you give a thumbs up. You two heard Suho’s voice from the dining room calling for a performance. As Kai comes out in a Santa costume; the members laugh at his appearance. “Yah! Don’t laugh at me!” Kai pouts, but the members keep guffawing. Soon after, his dance performance and magic tricks start, while you get ready in costume too.

“Now, the final one. Does anyone want to see my last magic? It’s really, magical, I tell you.” Lay interrupts him. “I want, but let me go to the toilet first.” Kai’s mouth wides open seeing his reaction, but the members are cracking up again. Lay isn’t going to the toilet, instead, he goes to the room where you are and ask you to come out softly. Meanwhile, Kai continues with his magic show. “For my last trick, I want everyone to stand up.” All of the members stand up, and Lay quickly ask you to stand behind him along with the other members, since all of them are taller than you.

“Do you believe if that person really appears if I call their names three times?” Kai asks the members. “No.” Xiumin simply answers bluntly, and the members are cackling again. “Who do you want to call?” Baekhyun shows his interest. Kai is starting. “Xiumin hyung, Xiumin hyung, Xiumin hyung, answer my call and come forward.” Xiumin refuse. “I won’t” Kai pouts. “Fine! Okay, Lay hyung, Lay hyung, Lay hyung, answer my call and come forward.” Luckily Lay cooperates with Kai and they hugged. Kai takes a deep breath. “Now. Y/N, Y/N, Y/N, answer my call and come forward.” You take a deep breath and goes next to Kai. “Yah! That is so lame. Next time, think of something else. I think I can do better tricks than you.” Kai lets out a big scoff. “Yah! Who dragged me just now? You, Chanyeol hyung, D.O. hyung. You ask me to do this” Kai pouts make you giggle; the view which Baekhyun missed so much.

Baekhyun’s eyes, his mouth wide open too. He cannot believe what did he just see in front of his eyes. Suho nudges him. “Go, hug her. She’s here now.” Baekhyun slowly gets closer next to you. “Y/N…. Is, that…that…. You? Y/N?” He stammered, still in a daze. You simply nod. Baekhyun cannot help his excitement and quickly hugs you tightly. “Y/N! Oh my!! Y/N” He cries while hugging you.

The other members chat to each other, while you are standing outside, enjoying the night cool breeze when someone approaches and hugs you from behind. “Y/N….” and you know it’s Baekhyun. “Yes, Baekhyun?” you turn to him, still hugging each other. “You look nice in short hair” You compliment him. “You like it?” Baekhyun asks, and you nod. “I miss you, Y/N…. I miss you so much.” You let out a sigh though, making him uncomfortable. “Y/N, let me explain everything from the start?” You agree to hear him this once.

He told you how bad his decision before…. How immature of him to not be able to think deeply about the consequences of his own life and relationship. You heard how badly he got cheated by his ex-girlfriend, and making him feel very small, and he felt like that was his karma. The story told by D.O. and Kai were aligned with his explanations. You are sorry to hear his experiences, but instead, he is now happy because he has moved out from the negative connection and has moved on from his past. What’s more, you could see the maturity in him had grown over the years.

“Y/N, can we start again? This time, I really, wanted to make things right. I wanted to show the best version of myself, by understanding, loving and taking care of you. I don’t expect you to forgive me for my stupid, immature past. All I hope now is a second chance, and I hope you could give me that,” Baekhyun pleads. You look deep into his eyes and vice versa. “Baekhyun, do you still remember what I told you at the Han River?” Baekhyun sighs. “You want me to focus on my career….”

You let out a small laugh, raising a big question mark within him. “You really forget about it,” as you keep chortling. “Remind me, what is it?” Baekhyun asks you in a low voice while cupping your face, making you blush. “You know I’ll always be with you…. You are successful now, the world has recognised you, acknowledge you as a double million-seller. After this, you could be a triple million-seller, you could be anything big in this world, but…. no matter where you stand, no matter what you do, you should know by now, that I, Y/N, will always be with you. You may think that I’ll be close to you just in physical terms; but actually, it’s way more than that. I will always be with you, emotionally, spiritually, and now, right here, physically be with you.

He is impressed and moved by your words. He never knew those words brought deep meaning into his life. A tear of happiness fall from his eyes, currently thankful to the Heavens for giving him the biggest Christmas present; another chance to be with you. “I love you Y/N. I don’t think I can let you go anymore. Please stay here with me. Please don’t go….”. This time, you plant a lovely, soft kiss on his lips. He stops crying. “Can…. can we, do that again?” He asked, and you give a smile. He understood you, and kiss you passionately. You break the kiss. “When will you discharge from the military?”

He sniffles, thinking for a moment. “February 2023. But since the pandemic, the organisation always let us discharge a month early from the camp, but I had to stay quietly from the public until the actual date.” You hum. “You’ll be back to the camp tomorrow, right? Well, that doesn’t matter. Just a week left before you can return to your…….. House.” He gazes at you, then grins from ear to ear when he finally realises what you are trying to say.

“I’ll fetch you next week.”

What was it like when the two first hooked up. Like how did it progress to that? We’re they like a couple for a few years before they had Mia? Was it two years? Or four?

Ok so this is a really poorly written out timeline lol but hopefully it helps enough 🤣

October 2016: they met for the first time after she went to watch Mitch play in his first NHL game but it was literally just that, they met

Halloween 2016: they ran into each other at a bar, recognized one another, talked and then as she was getting ready to leave y/n mentioned how she was getting brunch with Mitch the next day and invited Auston to join and exchanged numbers. He went, and the three had a really great time

Beginning of November to end of December 2016: they began talking all the time, hung out and did lots together. They became very good friends in this time and it was completely platonic until it wasn’t. He even met Nate and her dad and everything, as a friend (and they were very much so catching feelings for each other but were too nervous/stubborn to do anything about it

December 30th 2016: the whole thing that went down with Chris at the bar on Lexie’s birthday happened. Y/n was v drunk and stayed at Auston’s place. They had a heart to heart *almost* kissed but didn’t

December 31st 2016: y/n wakes up full of regret, is upset about Chris, remembers the heart to heart with Auston (and the almost kiss) but is embarrassed and tries to get tf out of there but Auston is a sweet boi and made her breakfast and had Advil and water ready for her when she woke up so she didn’t have it in her to just dip. So, they talked. She stole some of his sweats and ended up staying with him well into the afternoon until he had to break it to her that his family had just gotten to the city and he had to go see them. Which she was fine with, she went to leave and he asked if she’d go to the centennial classic the following day. She said “yeah, me and Steph are going cause mitch and all” and then he said “no, I mean will you go to the classic as one of my plus ones?” Cause he wanted her to be there for him, cheering him on and she was shook, but said yes before leaving and going home for the night

January 1st 2017: she goes to the game, meets up with Steph and a couple of the girlfriends of the team that she’d gotten to know a little bit from always going to games and just being Mitchys “twin” Steph then handed y/n a bag and told her that she was asked to give that to her and in it was a Matthews jersey. Obviously y/n was surprised but also 🥺 so she put it on, they watched the game, Auston won in overtime. Then after the game when she finally got to talk with him, they were so freaking cute and awkward cause they were both feeling all types of ways especially Auston after seeing that she actually wore his jersey (much to mitch’s dismay) and then he officially introduced her to his family, who had all heard lots about her from Auston. It was very sweet, Ema then invited her to join them for dinner and she didn’t want mitch or steph to think she was bailing on them but they told her to go so she did and had a lot of fun. Then that night after they all had gone back to Auston’s condo, his family soon left and almost as soon as they were out the door Auston had y/n pressed against the wall and they were making out. She stayed the night that night.

January 22nd 2017: the two get into a fight. They’ve spent the entire month basically hooking up, spending all of their free time together and seemingly dating to anyone who didn’t know them. They were crazy about each other but then when y/n hinted that yeah, she would maybe like to try an actual relationship out with him, he froze up and made a comment basically saying that he thought what they had going was good (because he’s a stupid boy) and y/n said “I’m not going to be your fuck buddy, Auston. If you don’t want a relationship that’s fine. But I’m not doing just this especially with how I’ve completly fallen for you. I can’t be strung along, not after what happened with Chris. So, if you don’t want whatever this is going on between us to happen then please let me know and I’ll leave you alone.” And she left, pretty heartbroken because she was feeling that all she was good for to him was sex

January 28th 2017: he texts her in the middle of the night after not speaking all week to go skating with him. They go to the rink at harbourfront, which is empty cause it’s so late. They talk, skate, have competitive one on one matches cause Auston brought hockey gear. Then he, out of nowhere, asks her to be his girlfriend and how he’s wanting to give the idea of them as a couple, a shot

February 12th 2017: they’re officially official, everyone knows. Mitch has already sassed them. And she is his date to the centennial gala where they are pictured together as a couple and everything

Off-season 2017: Auston goes back to Scottsdale, y/n stays in Toronto and they do long distance but she does go to Arizona to visit him for two weeks. She meets his friends, really bonds with his family, then goes back to Toronto and he flys back too a couple of weeks later just before summer ends

2017/2018 season: not much happens, they’re very much so together and are just your typical couple. Y/n is in third year at university, spends a lot of time with her boyfriend at his place, but he goes to y/n and Lexie’s place a lot even though it’s not as nice as his condo downtown. Nate moved to Montreal for university after graduating high school that June, y/n’s dad moves to BC

Off-season 2018: y/n again stays in Toronto but does classes online so she can finish her degree a semester early. Auston is in Scottsdale again, but she does go stay with him for a couple of weeks again and brings him to BC with her and Nate to visit her dad and Mya

2018/2019 season: again, just typical domestic relationship stuff. Y/n finishes university early, works full time at her retail job she had throughout university so she can save up some money because she wasn’t renewing the lease at hers and Lexie’s place since Lexie was moving come September (2019) and she needed to figure something out. Y/n graduated from her program in the spring. Auston, her family (including mitch and Steph), and Auston’s family were there to cheer her on

Off season 2019: y/n works in Toronto, gets hired by an office in her field and is set to start her “adult” job in September. She goes to Scottsdale for a month this time, from mid July to mid August to be with Auston. He’s decided he wants to ask her to move in with him but is a chicken and fucks it up. They fight and she almost goes home but all ends well and she agrees to move in with him

September 2019: y/n starts her job and news of Auston’s charge from when he was in AZ comes to light. Y/n didn’t know about it, was livid and hurt that he didn’t tell her something like that. It was almost a month of them living together, they got into probably their worst fight ever and she stayed at mitch and Steph’s for a few days (it took a bit but they worked it out)

2019-2020 season and 2020 offseason: the events that happen in “Good Life” (keep in mind I wrote that before covid, so that doesn’t exist in this universe)

December 2020: Auston proposes (like in Good Life) and Frank is introduced

End of June 2021: they find out y/n is pregnant

Rest of 2021 and into 2022: the events of “Along For The Ride” part 1 and eventually 2

January 25th 2022: Mia is born

July 30th 2022: they get married

September 2022: they move into their house and out of the condo

Rest of 2022 into 2023: there’s a couple of pieces I wrote like Mia’s 1st Christmas and “Island In The Sun”

Late November 2023: they find out about baby number two, which is where we are right now in the story
