With the tentative and rough translations out, i have to say, yeah, Hori really doesn't get what he's actually writing and if he was trying to make Toga's entire deal a metaphor for queerness, he's ended up being quite offensive.
Like first off it seems he has Toga say she falls in love easily with boy and girls and...animals. Which, I always felt the bird thing as a kid could have negative connotations, but wrote it off as 'she was a little kid and this was before her desire for blood was wrapped up in her romantic feelings' type things. So having Hori reinstate that yes, she does still love animals to the point of blood drinking desire--a desire Hori coded as sexual/romantic is not a good look.
It also just makes me question if she could ever own a pet or if she'd end up killing it because she loved it to much and she needed to drink it's blood.
Also getting her perspective on the boy she attacked isn't great either. The translation is rough and basic so it could change, but I don't think there's any translation that could make the situation not read poorly.
In the rough translations she says something along the lines of "I didn't ask to drink his blood because I was afraid he'd hate me and think I was a decent monster."
I could see an alternative translation being "I asked for his blood and he called me a deviant monster, and I sucked his blood."
Again if Hori is trying to make a queer metaphor with Toga, this is a huge issue. Her attacking the boy was always a big problem, but if he didn't bring it up again I think a lot of casual readers would have forgotten it. But now it's front and center again and brings back bad connotations for Toga and a queer reading of her character.
Because again if we read her blood drinking as queerness, and Hori has already coded it in the past as lust while just last chapter confirming that Toga sees it as kissing in the very least we get two equally bad reads.
A) Due to fear of rejection Toga did not ask for consent and decided she'd just make sexual advances toward someone she had a crush regardless.
or B) She got rejected and told no, and then made the sexual advance anyway.
With a queer reading this only becomes worse because it pays into the really negative and even dangerous idea that same sex attracted people will go after anyone regardless of consent or the other persons orientation. It continues to perpetuate the idea that queer people are sexual predators, who target straight people or in the very least do not care about consent, or are unable to control themselves long enough to get it.
But even without a queer reading what Toga did is wrong. It sucks that people don't get her way of showing love, but consent is still needed regardless. You can't just do what you want to someone because you were to afraid to ask them out. You can't just do what you want with someone after they tell you no. Even if the boy had called her a monster that would not make it ok for Toga to, essentially sexually assault him (yes, kissing someone against their will is sexual assault, which is what Toga sees her blood drinking as).
And I think that's why Toga's character is really hard to get behind for some people--because at the end of the day she's literally just saying "I can't help but sexually assault people (and animals apparently)', and the solution to this is to give her exactly what she wants and apologize for not seeing how much pain she was in when she was actively trying to sexually assault people.

just imagining how frightening it would be to be out in public and perhaps doing things that are normal, even though you are a career criminal (or, your character is, more like. and particularly in the DC verse), but then you hear people suddenly start gasping around you. and how is someone going to ignore something like that? so, you stop doing what you're doing and then, things just get more strange because you see what almost looks like people seeming to clear a way for someone. thus, you've FINALLY turned around at this point and all you see is this otherworldly looking woman with green skin wearing a bunny mask, whom is dragging a dead body with them and has abruptly dropped it at the end of all of these people around you. and at first, you think, what the hell is going on? should i start running? because she certainly doesn't look friendly.
but then thing's just get worse because this bunny mask clad person, or whatever they may be, is looking at you straight in the eyes and yeppp... this is your cue to start running. but just imagine ALL of the tension that would be building up in a scene like this while this opposing criminal character, whoever they may be, hears people react and that's the ONLY reason why they even had a chance to run away from bunny mask. like OMG. and a chase scene afterward??? this is now going on my wishlist because, god damn, can bunny mask be intimidating. but i'd love to be able to roleplay her more ' brutal ' side with someone even so

I feel with all of Shauna's..questionable decisions/ shitty actions, people forget that teen shauna can actually be..pretty kind/empathetic? Obv not the most out of the yellowjackets but she still has plenty of compassion, theres the stuff with Jackie you mentioned, but she was also by far the kindest to Javi, going up to the attic for Tai, she has a tendency to jump into action whenever someone's hurt/freaking out (Van, Mari , Lottie at seance), etc..some people will act like shes evil lol (sorry I'm pretty defensive of teen shauna😅)
OKAY THANK YOU 😭😭😭 i am also really defensive of teen shauna and i think her good side gets overlooked a lot because it's generally more interesting and plot-relevant to talk about is how fucked up she is and how much she sucks...and im not saying its not true!! but at the same time, yeah, i think it's easy to forget that she really can be sweet and kind and empathetic and like, just an actual decent person. going up to the attic with tai is a great example, and the seance too like you mentioned, i always think of how she's one of the first to try to comfort lottie and try to like, get her through the moment, because yes she is very good in a crisis. and i loved getting to see shauna take javi under her wing. its funny cause i saw a post about how shauna is nurturingcoded but not actually nurturing and i DO AGREE at least in regards to adult shauna but teen shauna was really sweet with javi, very big-sisterly, and i also think that instinct to jump in during a crisis and try to take care of people is pretty nurturing of her.
i dont have like a big unifying statement or psychoanalytic theory about why shauna is both compassionate and cruel but you know what, maybe it's a simple answer: she's complicated and contradictory, like most human people (and teenage girls) are! and it just so happens that the things about her that are fucked up are like, super fucked up. but thank you for mentioning her genuine good traits because i think they are underappreciated and its nice to remember that they do exist.

sorryyyyy sumiko is still the fucking character of all time like at the beginning of the series you're like yeah whatever. mom's not in the picture. dead anime mom we've all seen it. and then you find out she's not dead she's just like. wandering the country doing deadbeat mom business. whatever. more important things are happening. her first appearance in person is her dropping a dragon on top of her son. she doesn't even say hi. then someone comes in and says "hello I'm the supernatural government and your mom has been committing god murder aka supernatural treason. how are you feeling about this, besties?" and then you find out her husband really really loves his wifey (despite her being so absent). and then you actually meet her for real and you're like oh! oh. oh yeah she's so fucked up hahaha jesus fuck

Anyway. My last post for some reason did t post so I’m gonna post it again and rewrite (lmao it was just like ‘summer whump here we Go’ and me going off in the tags) anyway I won’t even bother to proofread this have fun <333
SUMMER WHUMPE NYOOM
- Sunburns
- Heat exhaustion
- Heatstroke
- Sunstroke (which I believe to know is something different from heatstroke and heat exhaustion)
- Whumpee going swimming and severely underestimating the freezing temperatures of the lake despite the otherwise high temperatures
- Going swimming in a lake or otherwise unclean water with wounds which causes them to get infected
- Headaches from dehydration/sun
- Light sensitive Whumpees <3
- Stepping into something underwater
- Falling onto something underwater
- Falling into the water and onto something like the ground or whatever because they couldn’t see it coming because of. the water
- Sudden temperature drops after sunset, which leave Whumpee freezing because it was so warm earlier, they didn’t bother to bring a jacket
- getting pushed falling off a boat
- bugs. need I say more
- (to the point above. Just imagine whumpee who’s scared of bugs, or getting bitten by something that makes them sick or something, or just the plain discomfort of having 74572959220 mosquito bites)
- Whumpee falling asleep in the sun. A classic
- Falling off a tree they were trying to climb
- I also noted down train whump
- Because. Trains can be ultra packed here when holidays start. So imagine claustrophobic whumpee in a horribly packed train <3
- Or simply an overheating train because the AC failed
- generally being stuck in a train and no one knows why or when or if they will keep going
- allergies. Another classic
- scar reveals because it’s too hot for long clothes <3
