so emotional about yasammy. watching that scene with yas and ben plus the realness of discovering your sexuality and all I can think about is the fact some kid out there definitely will take that to heart. especially sapphic kids who are also discovering their first crush on a girl and sapphic kids of color who have only seen white people allowed to express these feelings and kids who don’t know what they are but didn’t even know you could be like that.
jurassic is a huge franchise with extremely lacking rep. zia and kayla are great but one liners aren’t life changing. they’re fun easter eggs that don’t lose you money from conservatives. yas and sammy? their relationship can’t be cut out of the show. it was built up for four and a half seasons and they are core characters. you can’t censor them without losing the whole show. which is a huge step jurassic took.
yas and sammy are two girls of color who are encouraged to love each other. sammy is also chubby!! none of these things make them less deserving of love and every other kid is so excited to see them happy together. that means something!! to kids who are bullied for their weight, to queer kids of color who’ve never seen themselves on screen, to sapphics of all walks, to kids who just want a supportive friend group!! yasammy matter so much. it’s so meaningful to have a kids show do this and a kids show that’s part of a multi billion dollar franchise
this show would’ve been my everything if I had it as a queer kid who was weird and fat and not white. this show will be everything to a kid like that now

Being in a theatre full of queer people screaming “they say I’m an abomination, but I am god’s creation” is something that can be so personal and cathartic

Queer masculinity is so dear to me actually.
Every time a queer person does masculinity it is always so good. I just love the recognition of gender as performance and presentation and the people who embrace that. There is no better cure in the world to the misery of patriarchy and toxic masculinity than watching a butch woman, a gay man, a trans man, a non-binary person embracing and reshaping what masculinity is and means into something euphoric.
And while I don’t necessarily vibe with any of the labels attached I am so glad to have these role models for queer masculinity and something that I can embrace for myself without shame or censure. It is so important to me and I know it is important to many others.

one good thing about being openly trans in retail is other gay customers will go out of their way to validate me. like no one ever ever EVER calls me sir except for the lesbian couple that I had when I was working checklanes and then the girl with the bi pins on her backpack in our Starbucks. they saw the pronouns on my name tag and went out of their way to call me sir it makes me feel so warm
