Well I’m awake early. Grudgingly. Stupid door bell.

Anyway, Johto is less of an offender than Kanto overall on the “kinda boring” scale, and has some real hits. It’s not really the Pokémon that has me so overall eh on the gen.

@crystalelemental I will fight you for Snubbull

S Tier - Chikorita is baby. One of my top 3 favorite starters as a starter itself. Furret is one of the best rat lines, agreed. I love the Togepi line. Mega Amphy - look at that FABULOUS hair, you go funky dragon mega. Only good gen 2 mega. Espeon was my favorite Pokémon for the first three gens I played, and is still second overall. Dunsparce is great, it’s so dopey. I have a build a bear Snubbull cause I got attached leading up to the Detective Pikachu movie. Skarmory is in my bird bias. Blissey, my girl. I like stall tactics in the regular game (throwback to scaring the hell out of Pixelmon players with a team of six fully EV trained Blisseys). I like Entei most of the beasts. Lugia is great (I’m gonna be generous to a lot of legendaries oops). Onion fairy my beloved.

A Tier - The rest of the Chiko line and the Cynda line are really good. Sentret is good just not evolved. Noctowl line is cool. Pichu and Cleffa are some of the most successful pre-evo additions to me. The non-Mega Ampharos set is great. Umbreon isn’t Espeon but it’s still an Eeveelution. I love pufferfish so Qwilfish gets a pass despite I know it was considered much more forgettable prior to Hisui. Don’t fuckle with Shuckle. Corsola is a little demon. Delibird is funny. Porygon2 is so round. Miltank has REALLY grown on me the last couple years for various reasons. The other two beasts in the trio.

B Rank - Okay Crobat I could have put you higher, but here you are. You have absolved Golbat’s sins but you’re still not cute. Rest of tier is mainly “yeah I like you”. Ho-oh is. Fine. I don’t have the nostalgia for it that a lot of people do.

C Tier - Meh. Stuff that’s fine but I don’t really care that much? The one mistake is I should’ve put Sunkern higher cause I have a soft spot for it, but I auto-piloted it. Whoops. Also T-Tar isn’t really that great sorry thems the breaks.

D Tier - Why? Either boring design or weird evolutions.

E Tier - I never liked Quagsire line or Heracross. Tyrogue is an awful design, Smoochum is an unnecessary addition to a line that should’ve been forgotten. Why are so many of the Gen 2 Megas so ugly?

Fuck You - Aipom is a little bitch. Haunted me in early games, absolute nightmare fuel in Detective Pikachu. Probably my least favorite Pokémon period.

Overall feels a lot like a step up from Kanto, if still a lot in the average range. Maybe not as bad because there’s 51 less filler ‘mons, lol.

Plushies? I love plushies!

I'm sad right now because I forgot two of my favourites, Happy Lamb and Bilby, when I was visiting my grandma up north in October, and because of scheduling/pandemic stuff I haven't been able to get them back, they came back down with my sibling but we live in different cities, only an hour away but haven't had a chance to retrieve them yet, hopefully soon. Happy Lamb is very helpful with meltdowns so not having him around sucks, but I've been getting help from others. Bilby is the one I've had longest, he's a bandacoot that was gifted by the Australian exchange student who lived with my family when I was 2.

Another really special plushie is my Toothless Build a Bear that my boyfriend/future fiance gave me. His tail is a little extra wrecked because Valkyrie, our Bernese Mountain Dog, chewed it a bit when she was teething, but it's ok. He's been my main substitute while Bilby and Happy Lamb are with my sibling.

I also have so many old Ty Beanie Babies, and newer ones, and some really nice Pokemon ones too. For Christmas a friend gave me a Gigantomax Eevee. It is super cuddly but currently on display in a cabinet where Val can't chew it. She loves plushies too but unfortunately sharing is a little dangerous for the plushies. She is good with her own toys though.

There is a Pokemon pillow pet that I share with her, it's an Espeon. She's been good with it and it alternates between sitting on the couch in the living room and being in her little corner of the room.

This turned into a partial tangent about my dog, whoops. But yeah, love plushies!

Aww i love this!! My dog couldn't be around any plushies when he was younger, but now he's thankfully really good with knowing which ones are his and which ones are off limits for play.

I hope you can get them back really soon <3

What are your favorite and least favorite Build a Bears and other items that you have bought in the last year or so directly from Build a Bear? Why? (If possible, can you please exclude non licensed animals and products or list them separately?)

I don't really have least favorites (I wouldn't have bought them if I didn't like them, so picking a least favorite from ones I have seems kinda...negative?) but I will pick a top 3 from licensed and unlicensed BaBs that I've gotten in the past year! So from April this year to April last year. I'll separate Pokémon from other licensed ones, otherwise the whole licensed list would be Pokémon lol. I'll list them under the cut!

Top 3 Build-A-Bear Originals:

♡Werewolf- I am a sucker for werewolves. I have all of them, and I hope they do more!

♡Lucky Ducky- best duck that BaB has come out with! Very soft

♡Curly bear- I love a good teddy bear, and this one is a really really good bear.

Top 3 Pokemon:

☆Espeon- espeon is my favorite eeveelution, and was my favorite Pokémon for a long time! So of course she'd be on the list

☆Leafeon- the leaf detail is so pretty!

☆Gengar- fat spooky ghost pal

Top 3 Licensed BaB that aren't Pokémon:

♤Carol, Where the Wild Things Are- Looks just like the pictures in the book! Fun mix of textures and very huggable.

♤Tails- a baby

♤Black Widow- I love Marvel bears, and although I prefer the older style of them, I really like Black Widow even with her built-in outfit.

Thanks in no small part to @icibue I just spent the last day crafting RWBY/Pokemon AU headcanons. Please keep in mind that this is 50% funny, 50% serious and 100% self-indulgent!

· Ozpin gives each new student an Eevee egg to hatch and train as part of their course work.

· All the schools give different particular pokemon, Ozpin is just very fond of Eevee because of how much it can ‘change’.

· Mythical and God-like pokes cannot be captured and instead ‘choose’ trainers. Being chosen by such a Pokemon is considered a very high honor but also puts that trainer at risk of being targeted by Salem.

· Xerneas and Yveltal take the place of the God of Light and God of Darkness.

· Celebi chose to be Oz’s partner centuries ago and is always the first to find him again after reincarnation.

· The Xiao-Long family have raised the Kommo-o line of Pokemon for generations and it is customary for a Jangmo-o to be their child’s first Pokemon.

· The Roses were known for raising Roselia and Roserade for show.

· The Honchkrows Ozpin and Qrow have are from the same clutch of eggs.

· Ozpin owns and cares for many pokemon but keeps two teams at the ready. One is a public team that is well known. The other is a private team that contains pokemon he has had through many lifetimes.

· Because of the presence of Pokemon on Remnant, the world is a little safer for everyday citizens, though Grimm ARE attracted to pokemon just like humans.

· The Huntsman Academies teach how to hunt Grimm and how to raise Pokemon.

· Beacon Academy focuses on living in harmony with Pokemon and working together with them. Using pokeballs is optional for Huntsmen who have demonstrated close bonds with their Pokemon.

· Atlas Academy focuses on Pokemon’s use in military tactics and has an extensive breeding program focused on breeding the strongest Pokemon. Pokemon are not allowed to be out of their pokeballs without military sanction.

· Haven and Mistral are well known for their Pokemon Contests and shows. Battling is taught at Haven but definitely takes a backseat to the ‘art’ of raising Pokemon.

· Since law and order is rare in Vacuo, almost anything goes. Having a strong team that can protect you and yours is what gets taught at Shade Academy. Since pokeballs are easily stolen they are very rarely used.

Now for Team Headcanons along with my personal reasoning for why I chose the teams I did. I was getting very tired towards the end of the team building, so I apologize if some teams aren’t as ‘fleshed-out’ as others.

STRQ

Summer Rose

1. Shiny Roserade – Obvious choice honestly

2. Alolan (Menagerie) Cubone – Summer having a poke that lost it’s poke-mom and human mom was too entertaining to not do.

3. Sylveon – Summer being the ‘heart’ of team STRQ

4. Blissey – Since Yang described Summer as ‘super mom’ having a pokemon described at ‘nurturing’ seemed fitting.

5. Gardevoir – The entire Gardevoir line is very sensitive to emotions and I headcanon Summer as being fairly bubbly.

6. Altaria – I didn’t have any super specific reasons for this one. Just seemed like a poke Summer would have ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Taiyang Xiao-Long

1. Jolteon – Jolteon fits Tai’s color scheme. Sue me.

2. Pangoro – A fighting type that doesn’t like it when the weak get picked on

3. Kommo-o – The only fighting dragon pokemon and it just so happens to fit Tai’s color scheme

4. Herdier – I mean, it’s obvious isn’t it?

5. Bewear – Another fighting bear but this one loves hugs

6. Drampa – A dragon that protects kids

Raven Branwen

1. Mandibuzz – Specifically said to hunt ‘weak’ prey

2. Salazzle – Rules over similar pokes and fits Ravens color scheme

3. Weavile – Hunting in small groups to take down larger prey sounds a lot like the Branwen tribe

4. Umbreon – The only Eeveeloution that fit ravens color scheme ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

5. Hydreigon – Brutal and destructive

6. Bisharp – Rules over packs of similar pokes and is called ‘pitiless’

Qrow Branwen

1. Honchkrow – Do you have to ask?

2. Absol – A pokemon said to bring misfortune/bad luck.

3. Umbreon – Fits Qrows aesthetic and the twins having the same Eeveeloution is funny to me.

4. Alolan Marowak – This is actually Summers Cubone evolved and I felt like Summer wouldn’t have brought a young untrained poke on a possibly deadly mission. Also seems fitting that Qrow would take to raising it since Tai would have his hands full raising his own team and the kids.

5. Staraptor – A loner birb that leaves its flock after growing up fits Qrow pretty fucking well.

6. Scrafty – A poke that comes off as rude and actually cares about its loved ones.

RWBY

Ruby Rose

1. Scyther – It has scythes for hands, what’s not to love?

2. Roselia – Wanting to keep Ruby’s family legacy going, Tai gives Ruby a Budew as her first Pokemon

3. Shiny Eevee – I mean silver Eevee… silver eyes… Also, it hasn’t evolved yet cause Ruby and Eevee are unsure of what they want it to be.

4. Rockruff – A pup that turns into a wolf, nuf said (it will probably turn into the midnight form…).

5. Electrike – A speedy boi that gives of showers of sparks as opposed to Ruby’s showers of petals

6. Zigzagoon – Another speedy boi

Weiss Schnee

1. Glaceon – Obvious is obvious

2. Alolan (Atlesian) Vulpix – Pretty snow fox for the pretty ice queen.

3. Dratini – Of course the rich kid would have something really rare

4. Furfrou – Fancy dog for the fancy girl

5. Brionne – A pretty poke that sings? 100% Weiss’s aesthetic.

6. Braixen – You can only have so much blue and white before you need a splash of color and a poke that uses a wand like how Weiss uses her weapon seemed fitting

Blake Belladonna

1. Litten – A cat that like to be solitary and doesn’t often display emotion… sounds like Blake to me!

2. Umbreon – Somehow Umbreon just fits for way too many people but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

3. Purrloin – Cute purple cat

4. Litwick – Blakes shadow clones kinda remind me of a ghosts sooo purple ghost poke?

5. Frogadier – Blake is a ninja. She absolutely needs a ninja Poke

6. Noibat – It’s purple and has great hearing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yang Xiao-Long

1. Jangmo-o – It’s a punchy dragon and fits her color scheme ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2. Makuhita – Yellow, punchy, never gives up

3. Flareon – Yang’s hair literally lights on fire. I would be dumb to NOT give her Flareon

4. Combusken – I mean it’s fire, it’s fighting, and warn when hugged!

5. Rufflet – Ok SO Rufflet and it’s eventual evolution into Braviary fits Yang really well. Rufflet starts out feeling like it needs to prove itself and fighting everything it can (including it’s own parents). After evolving it still fights like a champ, but for more ‘noble’ reasons, aka to protect friends and loved ones.

6. Corphish – JuST hear me out on this one. Corphish are said to be REALLY hardy and able to survive in the worst conditions. They also like to fight a lot.

JNPR

Jaune Arc

1. Growlithe – Friendly and loyal ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2. Eevee – His Eevee eventually becomes Sylveon because Jaune is a cinnamon roll

3. Buneary – Won the egg from cereal box tops

4. Riolu – Riolu and Lucario are described as loyal and having a very strong sense of justice

5. Honedge – This one has been in has family for a long time

6. Skarmory – Jaune only had a team of 5, but when Pyrrha died her Skarmory was the only survivor and Jaune took it upon himself to raise it.

Nora Valkyrie

1. Jolteon – What did you expect?

2. Rhyhorn – It has the lightning horn ability for obvious reasons

3. Flaaffy – Happy, fluffy, pink, and electric

4. Teddiursa – Cute, loves sweet things, and it’s evolution is a rage bear. Nuf said.

5. Munchlax – They both have bottomless stomachs

6. Woobat – If Nora’s heart cannons are anything to go by, she would love this Pokemon

Pyrrha Nikos

1. Magnemite – Polarity… Magnetism… Magnemite… I’m not very original

2. Eevee – Pyrrha’s Eevee would have become a Jolteon if she were still alive.

3. Skarmory – Steel types really are obvious choices.

4. Nosepass – It’s nose is literally magnetic

5. Victini – With all of the talk of Pyrrha being ‘fated’ for victory, it would be silly to not give her the pokemon that makes that true.

6. Buneary – Pyrrha ended up being given one of the Pumpkin Pete mascots

Lie Ren

1. Espeon – When I think of Ren I think of psychic pokes so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2. Natu – Calm and cautious like Ren

3. Nincada – Only other ninja poke that isn’t Froakie

4. Espurr – Another calm psychic ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

5. Joltik – A cute little critter to remind him of Nora

6. Zorua – Can hide it’s self which is closeish to Ren’s semblance

Misc.

Ozpin – Public Team

1. Espeon – Espeon’s tail fork is said to be able to sense danger so it makes sense Oz would keep one around.

2. Klinklang – I mean, the gear aesthetic it obvious isn’t it?

3. Mimikyu – I headcanon that Oz can very easily see the worth in literally anyone so giving him a poke that thinks it can’t be loved was a no-brainer

4. Shedinja – Pokemon with no soul VS man with too much soul

5. Honchkrow – Oz having a ‘dark’ pokemon and people think he’s shady? No way! (also, I’m a shipper shhhh)

6. Ninetales – Of course Oz would have a stupidly long lived Pokemon

Ozpin – Personal Team

1. Celebi – Of course the one person who can be found in almost any time period ever would be chosen by the literal time travel Pokemon… Also, Green.

2. Dragonite – Dragonite’s are kind, altruistic, and long lived.

3. Magearna – Man-made poke that has a gear aesthetic ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

4. Metagross – Made from fusing two Metang together.

5. Aegislash – Despite Ozma being a ‘wizard’ he was also a ‘warrior’

6. Zoroark – Uses illusions and would even sacrifice its life to protect loved ones.

Excerpt: “The Storm Feather”

Hello, readers!

Like the last post, I’m sharing excerpts from my “Extinction of Team Rocket” series, this time coming from the second installment, “The Storm Feather.” Read below for the description and excerpts, and you can download it from Smashwords here. Happy reading!

The second installment of the Extinction of Team Rocket series, The Storm Feather, finds Drew, a newly exonerated criminal making sense of the shattered pieces of his life and his newly bestowed freedom. In spite of not feeling like a hero or worthy of others' praise, he resigns himself to accepting the role and resting and healing as best as he can with his gym being closed to the public. However, a fateful reunion and subsequent adventure arises, giving him the journey he never had. Despite building a new team and making new friends, he's forced to face his demons head on, both in his mind and around him, unfolding into an eye-opening adventure he'll never forget.

“Welcome to the Lavaridge Gym,” Flannery said, her eyes giving off a fiery glow, “the pride and joy of town.”

“Wow,” Jake said. “How cool.”

We followed them through a gate and found ourselves on an outdoor battlefield.

Flannery turned around and faced us, her smile spreading to each of us.

“Thank you for your hospitality,” I said, bowing to her. “It’s wonderful being a guest on a battlefield.”

“It’s my pleasure,” she said, returning my bow before taking the left side of the battlefield and tossing one of her pokéballs. “Come on out, Meg!”

Out of the flash of light came one of Flannery’s slugma, looking ready to battle.

“So who wants to be my opponent?” she asked.

Jake and I looked at each other.

“Go for it, Jake,” I told him. “Use this as a chance to put your training to the test.”

He smiled and nodded. “Right. Any advice?”

“I can sense Flannery’s passion is unparalleled in this area, so I’d fight fire with fire.”

“Fire… with fire?”

I nodded. “Just remember - each pokémon has its own unique strengths, so tap into your pokémon’s strength… You can do this, kiddo.”

A fire appeared in his eyes as he grinned. “I’ll make the Viridian Gym proud.”

Jake jogged to the opposite side of the field. Flannery hadn’t expected him to rise to the challenge, as a more surprised expression replaced her smile.

“Flannery, I accept your challenge.”

“All right, Jake!” Sandi shouted from the sidelines. “This’ll be incredible! Best of luck!”

Flannery’s smile reappeared. “Well, I can’t say I’m disappointed, Jake. Sandi and I both love hot battles, so I won’t be holding back.”

“And neither will I,” he replied. “It would dishonor those who believe in me and what I train for to not bring my best.”

She nodded. “To fight for honor and hard work is more noble than other ambitions of this world, so you’re among family here… tell me, what drives you, Jake? Since you were all too keen to be my opponent, I want to know what fuels the passion I see in you.”

Jake was silent a moment before responding. “It took a lot for me to be here… I wasn’t a confident trainer the first time around… and when I was in Team Rocket, I discovered I’d wasted my opportunity… Drew helped me see that being a great trainer is a process, and I promised myself I’d give it my all… I challenge you to not only honor my promise to myself but to bring honor to my mentor.”

His words choked me up, as I was proud of being a witness to this moment of bravery.

Flannery must have caught something from my demeanor, but she smiled and returned her gaze to him. “Your fire burns bright, Jake, so whatever you’re doing is bringing you closer to where you want to be. If you can defeat me, then I’ll grant you a Heat Badge.”

Shock replaced Jake’s calm, confident demeanor. “A-a gym badge? Seriously?”

She nodded. “You’re right - becoming a Master isn’t easy, and it’s the job of a gym leader to be a guiding light for visiting trainers… Drew’s guidance has kindled an ember into a bright burning flame, so if you can defeat me, the Heat Badge will not only signify your victory here, but… it will be a confirmation that your hard work and promise to yourself made you a great trainer.”

I stayed silent, with Espeon’s head in my lap, following Jake’s steady breathing pattern as he dozed. His face still lacked color, but I refused to do anything so as not to distract myself from detecting any changes to his condition.

After a while, with the sun having already set and the moon beginning to rise, sweat appeared on his face. I walked over to him and unzipped his sleeping bag, seeing it all over his body. It must’ve been trying to defeat whatever was inside him.

To help it along, I took more water from my canteen and froze it with the same means as before and repackaged it inside the compress before returning it to his forehead. I also rubbed his body down with cold water.

Our PokéNav had no signal, and without the moon and stars we’d have no means to tell time. It hurt not to hold him to keep him warm, but I didn’t want to add heat to his fever. Tears coated my cheeks as my worry remained. I took his hand and cradled it within my own, tears splashing onto them.

“You have to recover, Jake… I can’t lose you… everything wonderful I have is all because of you… I wouldn’t be able to live if you left us...”

Out of nowhere, I remembered something Mom mentioned to me. Doctors not only used pain relievers for pain management but also for fevers. I searched through my bag and found them, thankful we still had a few. I propped him upright again and had him swallow two tablets and some water, and I remained at his side.

As the clouds continued to dissipate, and night drew on, Jake seemed stable. I had continued to wipe him down with cold water until his sweating ceased, and his forehead was less hot, which meant the worst was over. I took a moment and smoked a cigarette to calm my nerves, now that I didn’t need to track his condition so close. The surrounding view was gorgeous. I only wished my companion was well enough to enjoy it with me.

When I returned inside, I found Jake shivering with nothing to keep him warm. The temperature had plummeted because of the storm, with goosebumps covering my skin. After adding more wood to the fire, I brought over my sleeping bag and unzipped it, doing the same with his and zipped them into one large sleeping bag. I laid it flat on the ground and set him on one side, with Poochyena flanking him, and I zipped the sleeping bag closed with me on its other side. Espeon laid next to my head, purring, and Growlithe and Electrike laid next to Jake.

I laid still for a while, trying to calm my thoughts. For tonight, we were fine, and for that I was grateful. A yawn caught my attention. I turned and checked Jake’s forehead. His fever was still dropping, so it was more relief from my anxious mind. He turned onto his side, shivering, so I turned over and brought him into my arms to keep him warm, hoping everything I’d done had saved him. I wept, unable to restrain myself. I couldn’t bear with losing this kid I’d grown to care about so much. Soon, after my tears left and my spirit calmed, I was asleep.
