Yandere!AU and Ada's no good, very bad day.

For @incorrect-nevermore that told me that otherwise she would take the band!AU in the divorce >:(

Warning: this gets fucked up. Pretty bloody and horny because they are my blorbos and they have every disease 💝💖💕💕💗💝💖💘

Annabel has an horrendous bite etched onto the skin.

That's not the first thing she notices, obviously. That's reserved for Lenore, slouching on the other woman's shoulder, her face cut by a tiny grin and her brows a bit scrunched, as she whispers and giggles in her hear.

But then the bite becomes visible and. Wow. (It's a bad wow. It's a very bad wow and she feels sick)

She can see it from a distance, ugly and red, sprouting from Annabel's unbuttoned blouse and hastily thrown on jacket. There are still droplets of blood slowly making their way from her pulse point down her shoulder.

And Montresor knew it, and even if Montresor was the worst of the worst he knew it and he said it, that between them they had something absolutely and truly and incomparably

Fucked.

But Montresor has been gone for a long time now, and nobody knows how or where or why.

(Students say that if you go near the ex-magazine on the first floor you can still hear his screams. She thinks they should stop talking about it because otherwise Annabel will make them)

Ada tries to make peace with the situation as quickly as she can: she just has to make her way down the corridor, enter her room (good God she doesn't want to know the state her room is in) and act like she hasn't witnessed the most unholy thing in her life.

Then she locks eyes with Annabel.

And she feels like swearing for the second time that evening.

The blonde gets a bit of a crease on her forehead, but she leisurely makes her way towards her, like it's alright. Like it's normal.

She laughs with Lenore, and the dark-haired outcast throws a "hey Ada!" In her direction. Her tone is kind (she is always kind, even with cowards like her) but she looks... weird. She's still leaning heavily on Annabel and she feels like her hears are there only to capture her every word and every breath and her eyes to track and drink and worship every movement of her body.

She looks drunk.

Drunk on her.

"You're just the woman I wanted to see, love! I wanted to discuss a little... situation with you." Lenore snorts and Annabel stops breathing for a second just to bask in the sound.

Ew.

"Can't you wait until tomorrow?" A glare. "I-I know that if you sought me out you must have something important to discuss but..." she forces out a yawn as one last desperate attempt to just go to sleep and forget this nightmare of an evening. "I'm pretty tired and I'm afraid I wouldn't give it the attention it deserves." She cracks out an apologetic smile, for good measure.

The crease in Annabel's forehead is more evident now.

Ada is not keeping count of the swears anymore.

"Bu- but, obviously, what you have to say comes first!" It doesn't. It really doesn't and she has to bite down her lip to not let the tears spill.

Annabel, luckily, smiles. Ada hopes.

"Good!" She says, then she claps her hands like Ms. Poppet before she gives merits. "You see, my darling pet here," she pops a bit the p and Lenore nuzzles into her a bit more, "was telling me all about your recent attempts at... befriending her. She even mentioned a striking collaboration between the two of you in the "Mistery Manor" and..."

Her expression crumples.

"I don't like it."

Fuck fuck fuck FUCK they have sorrounded her. While spouting sugar coated words they have sorrounded her and she feels her breath become heavy heavy heavy and there is no

goddamned

way out of their grasp.

She dies tonight. Of that, she is sure.

(And has been sure of for a while).

"Calm down love!" Annabel's hand on her shoulder feels like poison seeping under her skin. Her smile is so fake she feels like puking.

"You see, my pet is really attached to her little group of friends." Annabel caresses Lenore's cheekbone as she talks, "and as much as that irritates me," she's fucking scratching it now and Ada feels herself go paler, because Lenore is loving it.

"I would do anything, anything, to keep my pet happy." They are looking in each other's eyes now.

Annabel takes a drop of blood from Lenore's cheek and looks at it like it's a treasure.

Then she licks. It. Off.

"So," she keeps going why does she keep going "say it."

It isn't an order. It's divine judgement.

Lenore talks for the first time in this insane conversation, asking: "are you my friend, Ada?"

And Ada thinks and thinks and thinks of Montresor's growls as he said to stay away from Lenore, of laughter, of Morella's worried eyes and of Annabel's freezing glare but she also doesn't.

This life, or death.

She begs, between the tears and the sobs, blurting out: "yes! Yes- sure, without doubt, I care for you so much Lenore I-"

BANG!

The bullet crushes her skull and bludgeons her brain and Ada falls on the floor cracking what was left of her head in a disgusting, apocalyptic, and final

CRUNCH.

It was the wrong answer.

Ada is no more.

The other orbs it the forest tell her what happened next, because they are eyes and they are ears and they are all.

They tell her that Annabel worriedly cupped Lenore's face, with tender hands still dirty of blood, and she asked: "but wasn't she one of your little playthings, Lenore?" And that Lenore threw her gun away and gently took those killer hands in hers, correcting her, "Friends, my darling." then curing the thunder of anger the correction caused with a kiss on the sweet skin of her wrist. "I love my friends a lot, and you know that." A peck on the forearm, "I would die for them," on the shoulder, "kill for them." on the neck. "But for you, Annabel Lee,"

She nibbled on the soft soft skin of her ear. "I would burn the world down."

Annabel ended up backed against the wall of the corridor, her boots on Ada's cold fingers and her breath ragged.

Their mouths were so close they were burning while their eyes were already tasting what was to come, when Lenore whispered:

"She, was neither. She wasn't worth a single crinkle of your brows."

And Ada has been mocked many times, but that was maybe the one that cut the most.

They kissed, voraciously. Like animals, touching and biting and scratching, hands getting hungrier and hungrier, and bodies rowdy and loud in a tango of damning love.

Then the orbs, that were all, that saw all, that witnessed wild monsters and an even more monstrous academy, start shivering, and hesitating.

They tell her, in what feels like a whisper, that while the women were undressing, the spirits saw their backs, in that hall.

Haunted backs, they say.

They were full of red from cuts, and blue from bruises, and a sickly, rotten orange from badly healed burns. Words were scarred onto their skin, and they looked like wedding vows.

Then Lenore and Annabel retreated into her room, and the spirits refuse to tell her more.

Currently, I really only write Doctor Who aside from a handful of other one-offs I've written, but I literally have at least a hundred WIPs/ideas in my drafts.

Fandoms that I have tons of ideas for are Broadchurch and Jessica Jones (TV series), which I hope to get around to publishing. But I have a fair bit of range hiding away haha.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Pretty much as soon as I can! I appreciate engagement so much and I want to make that known to commenters. Plus, I love a bit of banter and discussion where prompted - it's a delight!

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Oooo, boy. Probably Happy Together? Or maybe the first chapter of Sunburn? Violet Hill was also pretty sad. I love me some dark, heavy stories that fuck up my beloved blorbos.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Although I haven't updated in it in quite a while, I've written a fair bit of the sequels for the A Lesson in Romance universe, and, boy, have I made those two have a (mostly) happy life together.

In terms of published stories, I think Study Buddies would take the cake or one of the many TentooRose pieces I've done. The former is very classic, high school sweetheart vibes with just enough angst dashed in, and I tend to keep the latter sweet, fluffy and horny.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I received some very intense 'constructive' criticism whilst writing A Lesson in Romance - like I'm talking extremely long paragraphs pretty much deconstructing my writing and questioning my content. I was young at the time, it was my first multi-chapter Doctor Who fic, and the fact that this person also pretty much outright told me how I should write my story pissed me off a bit, so I, in the most polite way possible, asked them to stop reading my story and leaving these comments.

Aside from that? I've really only had one sort of bad comment since then, but I opted to not reply.

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Oh, you know I do ;) I currently only write F/M; have explored M/M in the past so I'm down to write queer smut if the inspiration ever strikes.

I'm not really a fan of overly kinky stuff that is, say, explicit/specific (e.g. BDSM), but I don't mind stuff that is vaguely/lightly kinky (i.e. I tend to include voyeurism in my stories, but it's generally accidental). I mostly write either very horny or emotional, intimate stuff - I'm a sucker for the feelings associated with the couple.

It honestly depends on what kind of story I'm writing! But as of recent, I've been mostly producing first-time, emotion-heavy smut with a good serving of horniness/wantonness to build up the tension.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I've written two - Broken-Hearted and Fobwatched (if you've been waiting for an update, I promise I think of her often... I'll revive her one day). I'd say BH is crazier, as it does entwine itself with the Human Nature storyline from Doctor Who, but Fobwatched has also had some pretty wacky moments!

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge, and I really hope not! I have, admittedly, been a bit fearful of it in recent months.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Again, not to my knowledge! But I'm always open to that conversation if people are interested.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Back when I wrote band/music fanfiction (please forgive me for my crimes), I had started drafting out a fic with someone, but it never went anywhere and we didn't communicate very well either :,)

However, I have been beta-ing the lovely @quite-right-too's fic Dona Nobis Pacem, which has been a lovely collaboration <3 I'm so proud of Cody's work and highly recommend you read it if you haven't!

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

It would probably be DoctorRose! I've never really been more enthralled with a ship before, and the fact that the special interest is still going strong three years on is a pretty good sign. I also tend to come back to Ellie and Alec from Broadchurch quite often.

In the past, I was a hardcore Reylo fan, and I've always enjoyed random, niche ships within my realm of interests (i.e. Evey and V from V For Vendetta; Jackson and Lisa from Red Eye; an array of ships from my horror movies because I love being delusional).

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Look, I'm quite stubborn in my belief that, ultimately, I will finish all my drafts, but I can say that the drafts from when I first started writing Doctor Who fanfiction have been quite difficult to work on because my writing has changed so much since then!

There are also maybe a WIP or two that I have written purely for myself and will never publish. I will probably take these to my deathbed lol.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Hm, I've always been complimented for character accuracy, which I do think I have down pact - writing characters like Ten and Rose have gradually become more comfortable for me over the years and I feel like I know them quite well by this point, which is really surprising considering I've never done a proper rewatch of the show since finishing it aside from some scenes/particular episodes!

I've also always been very anal about detail in my stories - I love including the most unnecessary shit in my work!! Do you need to know what Rose had for breakfast? No. Are you gonna know anyway? YES!!! I just love making my stories feel as organic and lifelike as possible.

I've been working really hard on scenery recently, which I've been getting compliments on! I have aphantasia, so this is something I've put a lot of energy and focus into as I've come to realise it's pretty important for readers lol.

And, not to brag, but I do think I write some pretty banging smut. It's taken ten or so years of practice, but I got there in the end.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Eh, I feel I'm not super great at coming up with like... proper action/plot. Like I can do circumstances and events quite alright, but coming up with something like... say, escaping from a villain/bad situation, I've always felt pretty shit at accomplishing. However, I always try to improve.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I only speak English, so it's a bit daunting! But I just use Google Translate and consult others where possible. And, as Niyati has mentioned in her own post, I recently used her technique of writing from the non-speaker's perspective and it's been a welcome addition to my skills! Shout out, girlie <3

19. First fandom you wrote for?

It would've been 5SOS, but those fics are long gone - I deleted them from Wattpad, and the iPod that the original drafts are on doesn't work, unfortunately.

I also wrote about other bands that I listen to - Asking Alexandria, Of Mice & Men, You Me At Six, Pierce the Veil, and Bring Me The Horizon. I still have most of the drafts, but I deleted all but four of them from the internet lol (the ones that were deleted were unfinished works).

I don't write about these people anymore as I did come to realise, Wait a minute, it's kinda weird and gross to write about these people like this lol (no hate on anyone who does). But I'm always down to chat about my sordid past haha.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

I would have to say "Come, gentle night, come" as it's probably the most amount of effort I put into writing. I think it's my best smut and cherish it deeply!

it's my day off and I have already had one formal phone call and I'm now waiting for my new desk chair to be ready for pickup and I had an exhaustive day yesterday hosting vaalikahvit for five adults, one toddler and two dogs, so may I pleeeeaaaaaasssseeee get to fuck around and imagine blorbo nonsense and draft an AU fic I'll never write because I still haven't made that sideblog for this kinda shit instead of doing anything useful?? 😩🙏

so today I'm thinking of a no-band-AU semi-inspired by this post I made a week ago

in which Olli and Aleksi have recently moved in together in their new fancy house and they're so happy and in love and having a lot of sex (yes this is an important plot detail 🥰)

(spoiler alert: there is no plot. not even a little bit (hence I won't be writing this))

their relationship had a controversial start because they were still dating other people when they fell in love

Joonas is pining for Joel who's in a toxic on/off relationship with Samy

Joel may be struggling with something else too idk haven't decided, but Joonas is there for him always and he loves Joel so so much

as for Tommi and Niko: maybe Tommi and Olli used to be an item at some point, although he's not the one Olli broke up with to be with Aleksi

and maybe Joonas and Niko had something going on but Niko ended it because he saw how in love with Joel Joonas was

so Niko and Tommi have lots of deep discussions about whether it's weird for Tommi to see Olli with Aleksi (not really because it's been a while and he can see how happy Olli is now (way happier than he was with his previous partner))

and about how it is for Niko to see Joonas suffering so much because of Joel (it's hard but there's not much niko can do about it is there)

and yeah they end up spending the night together at some point 👀 they decide to keep it casual and low-key though so they tell no one

eventually it becomes maybe a little more than just friends hooking up but they're still sorta chill about it and it feels very natural (for Tommi it's better than the random one-night-stands he's been having and for Niko it's definitely better than worrying about Joonas all time time)

and yeah, as it is a non-band-AU I've also given some thought to what they all could be doing instead of being in a band (which is my favourite part of non-band-AUs hehe)

first of all, Tommi is a paramedic because I recently re-watched this old interview in which they all tell the what they'd be doing for a living if they weren't musicians in a band and that's Tommi's answer

ngl it would be kinda funny if I gave everyone the occupation they mention in the video but I think 'gravedigger' for Niko would be a tad too gloomy for the purposes of this AU lol, so he's a writer. a struggling one maybe, but still, and he spends a lot of time in his head (very in-character I knoooooooww <3)

Olli is a graphic designer at a... ummm... a place where graphic designers work? idk just some company, he works from home a lot (so that he can have sex with his bf during his breaks)

Aleksi is still a producer, has a fancy-ass studio in the house. Robin is one of the artists he works with, because of course he is

Olli and Aleksi secretly want to ask Robin if he'd be up for a threesome but he's a literal puppy and oblivious and they don't know how to bring it up lol

and maybe Johnny's Aleksi's co-producer and they also fantasize about having threesome with him 😂 sorry yes they are very horny and kinky in this AU

not sure what Joel and Joonas could be doing, but I like to imagine them as co-workers in some kinda music business or whatever. maybe they're also roommates, just to make it extra painful for Joonas 😭 and maybe Joel is a musician on the side (plays covers at bars etc.), because I simply can't imagine him another career than music

(Joonas goes to see his every single gig, sometimes without Joel knowing it)

a random "scene" I've thought of includes Niko and Joonas coming over to test the new sauna at the Matela-Kaunisvesi residence, but because Niko and Joonas feel awkward having sauna together, they end up mixing the pairs and so we have Aleksi and Niko having deep discussions in the sauna and Joonas and Olli talking about sex while waiting for their turn lol (they've been friends since forever and maybe had some experiments together when they were teens so it's very natural for them)

but yeah, the reason why I'm not writing this AU is because I have no clear plot for it 😔 but honestly? sometimes it's fun just creating these AUs and characters in my head 🥺

I wish I could write all these ideas into actual stories but I'm scared of biting off more than I can chew, so I intimidate and overwhelm myself from even giving it a fair try 😭

Hermit Age: Impulse

This is a post in regards to an AU that I am trying to make that combines Hermitcraft (and any HC-adjacent series) with the universe of Dragon Age. If you haven't seen my plans for this AU, check this out!

This post will start off with my interpretations for of course... the blorbo himself... Impulse!

Appearance

As with the current season of Hermitcraft, Impulse would obviously work well as a dwarf warrior already. Average dwarf height, strong and stout like one as well. Colors of yellow and black apply immediately. Just think of his Minecraft skin and then we make some few alterations to make him fit in with the world of Thedas. He has gold jewelry and piercings as well!

He also has a branding tattoo on his face in the colors of gold and yellow. These tattoos are to represent him as a casteless dwarf.

Origins and History

His origin is going to be a surface dwarf that came from Orzammar. He wasn't a part of the noble caste but he had history with both the warrior and mining castes. He started as a miner and worked well with it until he proved his efficiency with combat to the point he got put there with the warriors. Skilled with mining and proficient with melee combat, he was doing well... Up until the point he felt like Orzammar was chafing under the rule of the Assembly and the King. He got fed up with the royal politics and left for the surface. Though he has become a surface dwarf, he still misses Orzammar though, but he may never see the thaig again.

At this point he is a travelling mercenary, wandering here and there around Thedas, looking for companionship of which he would find eventually with Gem, Pearl, Skizz, and more of their friends.

I'll say though that he was in Orzammar since just after the Fifth Blight but left for the surface a few years later. Has been a surface dwarf for nearly a decade (by the point of Dragon Age Inquisition) and enjoys the mercenary life.

Name

How he got the name Impulse is due to the fact that his parents always called him "impulsive" for his quick actions as well as stubborn attitude. He would never actually reveal his true name to anyone though but he stuck around to be called Impulse by the other dwarves (as well as his companions and party members).

Personality

Impulse is a man of humor and enjoys a good laugh. During fights, he has a certain bloodlust that can intimidate people and oh boy, he will fight. When outside of a fight, he's passive and more docile, becoming a mediating presence. When threatened, he typically isn't aggressive but he will keep caution. He is competitive and loves a good challenge and he can and will challenge other people with what challenges he can make up. Generally a friendly and outgoing man and loves and trusts his companions a lot.

Headstrong and stubborn at certain moments and can act on instinct without thinking about it. If given more time or opportunity, he can think deeper and become more strategic and tactical about any situation.

Equipment and Combat

As for equipment and combat, he wears heavy armor and he definitely has a battle axe. He loves to try and tank for the party but he fails spectacularly (leave it to Skizz, Impy). He is simultaneously strategic and headstrong and he will cleave his way through what enemies are in front of him, be it darkspawn or bandits or creatures. He's there to deal damage but he tends to get a little reckless to the point that Pearl may have to do something to help him out.

Like other dwarves, he has resistance against magic and that can help a lot when he and his companions are fighting a mage or any enemy that can cast spells.

That's it for now! I'll probably do my interpretations of Gem next or Skizz or Pearl and then I'll eventually make some history of their mercenary band or party and probably even a fic!

The Prince and the Gecko: Evil Twink Jay, and Zane kisses a gecko. After being offered a deal, Zane falls into a new world of magic and curses, as he tries to break the curse of a talking gecko.

Whoops all avatars: There's been a mess up, now the avatar is one of three firebenders (Kai, Lloyd, or Jay). Who is it, and can they handle it?

2. Where do you get your fic ideas?

Usually just from What Iffing canon, I think, but that's a good question. A surprising number of my longfics are historical AUs or dystopian AUs, so I think probably What Iffing the world in which the story takes place, and asking how it would affect the characters -- I always want my characters to be in-character/canonesque even in an AU. I HATE OOC AUs. What's the fucking point then?? And I'm never interested in straight-up Modern No Powers AUs for any fandom. (Which makes it weird that I wrote so much boy band fic in my life, who are, really, just modern boys without any powers except the power of Charisma and Homoerotic Beauty.)

4. How do you choose which fics to write?

Ooh, I feel like it's not a conscious choice. There are WIPs in my folder that I really love! And I want to finish them! But the stars are not right. I want to finish my TOG/The Good Place AU so badly! I want to finish In Screaming Color! But no. Steve/Joyce, apparently.

10. Do you work on multiple wips or stick to one fic at a time?

Almost always multiple until I get close to a hard deadline (for a big bang or an exchange, etc.) and then I go, "Shit, I need to focus on the one thing," and then I do. But I generally always have 4 WIP documents open at a time -- daily drabbles that I should get back to soon, another themed drabble set of some kind, a shortish one-shot, and a longfic.

14. What is your favorite location and position to write in?

I can ONLY write at my desk these days. I try to write in coffee shops sometimes but I get very !!!! about Other People Seeing, even though it's not like I'm ashamed of anything I write? I did manage to write a bit on my vacation with @soundssimpleright back in October, which was nice. But I legit once went to a week-long writing retreat out in the middle of the Vermont woods with a bunch of National Book Award finalists and fancy people, and I just played Nancy Drew the whole time because my brain wouldn't let me write at Not My Desk. It was so bad. It was so bad. I mean I loved the retreat, 10/10 would go again, but I got nothing done.

15. What’s your favorite time to write?

I get the most done either first thing in the morning (4-5AM until work) or late at night (2-3AM until I fall asleep). These days I mostly write early in the morning before work.

24. How do you choose whose POV to write in?

I feel like it's not a conscious choice, which probably means that I'm making the easy choice and not challenging myself. I mean, do we not all write from Our Blorbo's POV? I think maybe the writerly answer is that I write from the POV of the character who will undergo the greatest metamorphosis in the story, but again, that's usually just Blorbo. I know though that in my original work, I generally always write the first draft in completely the wrong POV and then someone much smarter than me reads it and goes, "V, you did the thing again where you went out of your way NOT to have to write any conflict by having it in this POV," and I go, "Shit," and then I never finish it because I hate writing conflict.

33. Is there a specific word count that you hold yourself to/enjoy writing the most?

LMAO we all know that I love a 100-word drabble. For non-drabble stuff, I still like Round Numbers. 1,000 words, 5,000 words, 10,000 words. I like Round Counts even though it doesn't make any rational sense.

48. Who is your favorite character to write for? Has this changed since you’ve started writing for that fandom?

Currently, my favorite character to write is Steve Rogers, but that's pretty emblematic of my Favorite Character To Write For Fanfiction in general -- I like the Noble Hero Guy who puts duty ahead of himself to the point of self-destruction and doesn't realize that the people who love him want him to survive the fight more than they want him to win the fight. Your Steves. Your Poe Damerons. Your Percy Jacksons. I also like a good Tortured Resilient Angry Woman, like your Yelenas and Natashas and Wandas and Quynhs and Rachel Elizabeth Dares. In non-fanfiction stuff, I only write women. So.

51. Does what you like to write differ from what you like to read?

I definitely read more smut than I write, but otherwise it's not that different. I still hate a no-powers Modern AU generally speaking, and I 99% read canon-adjacent stuff. The only AU I really ever read is A/B/O that still takes place in the canon universe (like Marvel is still Marvel, the genitals are just different, or whatever). I read more angsty stuff than I write, too, I think, but having just said that, my THG stuff is all dark as fuck and that's the fandom where I read the darkest angst, so maybe not.

71. Do you spend more time reading or writing?

I go through phases with reading a lot of fic for a month and then reading none for a month? So writing, for sure, I do a lot more consistently and spend more hours per day on. I'm currently in a reading-actual-books phase so I'm not reading much fic outside of a few WIPs that I'm subscribed to, but I know that will change and I'll be in a fic-only reading phase soon enough. But I try to spend at least two hours a day writing. Try. I don't always succeed.

76. How do you deal with writing pressure, whether internal or external?

HA! I just cry. The biggest pressure that I get on my writing other than internal is my dad being super angry all the time that I haven't published original fiction yet, so. I cry.

77. Why do you enjoy writing fanfiction?

Ooh, that's a big question. I think the shortest, most immediate answer that came to mind is that it's the natural extension of how I interact with media, just naturally -- I can never consume anything and NOT wonder what happens next, or what came before, or what if X had happened to [Character] instead of Y. Fanfiction is the way to explore answers to those questions. I truly cannot fathom consuming A Media and NOT wondering those things upon finishing. Like, it boggles my mind when people can consume A Media and then just be like, "That was enjoyable, I'm gonna go not think about it ever again." WHAT?!?

Long post about fandom, specifically STs, on other socials. I’m just not happy with the recent fandom containment breaches rn and am ranting, just scroll if that sounds annoying. I’m intentionally not tagging any fandoms or characters i mention, LMK if this post is in your tag and I’ll fix it.

It’s not even the usual kind, like when fandoms start invading other fandoms or when a piece of content made by the fans becomes popularized without context or people realizing it’s fandom (… idk if this counts but I love the “shut up terf” meme being printed and shown to UK Parliament as an example.)— it’s the surface level fans sinking into the actual fandom and not realizing that their thrashing is making them sink faster.

It’s not a native-to-tumblr issue wildly enough (woo! No algorithm!), but on other socials that fandom is big in, the algorithm keeps pushing fandom stuff toward people who usually don’t interact with fandom but like certain popular games and shows. Normally this wouldn’t be a problem, and to be honest it really wasn’t when this happened with FN@F, but with ST non-fandom fans it’s so bizarre. Maybe FN@F is a different case, fandom is what made the game popular, and creators with large followings and fandoms put it on the map. ST, however, is a Netflix show, and you don’t need to have an association with fandom to watch a show on Netflix. On top of that, if you don’t already want to end up in a fandom space, you wouldn’t see stuff from deep in the fandom unless you interacted with progressively more and more actual fandom things, even if it’s just to hate comment and bicker. However, the surface level fans and ST fandom have stayed separate for years, and while i blame algorithms for overstepping and the surface-level fans for not knowing how algorithms work, Iiiiiii think we all know it was Eddie specifically that caused the breach to happen.

Like. Those of us who have been in fandoms for awhile know there’s going to be a character the fandom latches onto more than others, and therefore gets more theories, content, fanart, AUs, and cosplays then others. It’s not a problem, it’s just the fandom blorbo. This usually aligns with sexymen— (sans undertale, the onceler the lorax, bill cipher gravity falls, tony the clock from dhmis— junko danganronpa if you count her?) and sometimes there’s a split (like from Resident Evil Village, Heisenberg verses Lady Dimitrescu, FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!!!) Normally what winds up happening is that a character blows up in fandom and people on the outside don’t notice until Months later and only if it breaches containment. (I think this happened with Bill Cipher?) And during these months we do what fandom does best; we create stuff! We make art, comics, songs, fics, theories, alternate universes, crossovers, cosplays— this has ALWAYS been a thing. What happened now is that the first properly centralized fandom-favorite blorbo for ST? He was heavily merchandised, a huge focus on the show was his survival, and he was a weird nerd. Maybe he’s hot or something too I dunno I can’t actually recognize that stuff.

People who aren’t in fandom but are fans buy merchandise, they express interests in characters well-beings, they’re sympathetic toward characters who the narrative are sympathetic to, and maybe they like hot characters— I don’t actually know about that last one— on top of all that, they could be just as avid watchers as people who are in fandoms. It doesn’t seem like a surprise to me that most people cringing at Eddie cosplay today also say “I tried to find a H/llfire c/ub shirt when season 4 came out and now I’m glad I didn’t”. Or that they found the Eddie Memoriam fan song that several actors from the show referenced, reacted to, and one of whom did an interpretive dance to. Or they jumped past the character and expressed interest in the actor like you would a band or something. They didn’t realize their apps tracked their interests and searches. Also. After using TT for awhile, it listens to you. I know it SHOULDN’T, but it listens to the words you say and will adjust your FYP to learn more toward things you talk about a lot. Despite not interacting with Danganronpa anything, after talking about it for a long time with a friend who Does enjoy it, it became my FYP. And it was predominantly cosplayers.

Not to mention unlike security breach, it’s convention season this year! Conventions are wicked popular during the summer and early fall, Comicon happens in July, and with COVID over, so many people are/were bustling to go to one. The new STs season came out in late May, and the character with the most exciting storyline has an easy look to replicate that doesn’t change over the series. Not to mention unlike other STs characters, he’s a young adult with a style that is very specific and recognizable even with massive changes while also being easy to thrift. With emotions high about this character, conventions coming soon, and interests in the show and characters running high, of COURSE fandom, specifically cosplayers, flocked to this man! This is not an unnatural thing that happened! I knew this was coming as soon as I saw him in the TRAILERS.

Like. It’s not even our fault this time, we’re just minding our business and having fun, right? And then a metric Ton of people who seem to have never looked up a show they liked on social media before start bullying cosplays for… cosplaying… Y’know, that thing a lot of them put backbreaking amounts of work into just so they can have fun and sometimes even get paid? Like. Do they know about fanart? Fanfiction? Years-spanning fancomics? Webcomics that started as fan works? Have they ever read a fic? Do they know what the concept of shipping is? Do they know how horrific some popular ships are?? Have they ever read a fic that combined fandoms or ones that decided canon was dead and we killed it??? The entire fantasy genre? Do they know the simple joys of watching podcast fanartists interpretation of the characters become canon? Do they know the more excited joy of watching an artist’s interpretation of characters with a visual medium become accepted as fact by the fandom? Where WERE these people during the past seven or so years when there was a raving fandom for every show meant for teens??? Do they not know what a body pillow is??? Do they know what rule 34 is??? Do they have any idea what conventions are and what happens at them??? What do these people know and why do they hate it before they even know it???

I don’t think people in fandom are better than people who aren’t, there are a Lot of things in fandom I’m not happy with either (including rule 34 tbh). However, I’m not upset with people who don’t interact with fandom. I’m exhausted by the people who accidentally fell into fandom like quicksand and is just thrashing around and getting mad at people yelling at them to stop moving. So instead of rolling their eyes and scrolling, they put cosplayers who are just cosplaying on blast with the intention of having their audience chase them like wild animals. “Wow I’ve been seeing that on my FYP too!!!” You moron, algorithms push the things people you follow interact with toward you. It’s probably BECAUSE of this person picking a fight with the fandom that you’re seeing the same posts as them. “They won’t shut up, why are new fans like this, this has never happened before!” This happens in EVERY FANDOM. Don’t believe me? Look one up and start scrolling. Especially if it’s a tv series, book series, game series, or podcast that’s appeared as a popular hashtag in the past 10 years.

It makes sense that this isn’t happening on Tumblr tbh, we know why we’re here.

27. What do you listen to when writing?

this year as i was driving around imagining stories, i'd put on two playlists: the princess luz playlist, which is about being unbelievably sad, and my devin and nova playlist, which is all songs about having a HORRIFICALLY dysfunctional relationship.

when ACTUALLY writing, i gravitate toward instrumentals. i have still-very-much-in-progress instrumental playlists collecting music for each of the OCs, but they arent curated enough to link. if i'm writing a scene with a specific mood, i'll go on youtube and type "[x mood] epic orchestral mix."

if you've never done this for writing, it's a GODSEND. my most common searches are shit like "horror orchestral music," "drama/suspense epic orchestra mix," "devastation orchestral music mix," "powerful and emotional orchestral music mix"

there are too many bands and production companies i like to list them all here -- a LOT of musicians make electronic and orchestral scores that would fit intense movies. i've heard people say they use these mixes for setting the mood in TTRPGs, it's just as effective for writing.

as for specific instrumentals, i HAVE to recommend any and all of within temptation's. the instrumental versions of their songs showcase INCREDIBLE violin, piano, guitar, and general musical craftsmanship that usually gets lost under the vocals. they are fucking STUNNING.

my favorite one always fluctuates depending on my mood but for now i'll suggest trying shot in the dark to see if you like it. it's a pretty good preview of what their stuff sounds like.

30. Biggest surprise when writing this year?

honestly, i was surprised to rediscover how much i love horror writing, and equally surprised that so many people could get invested in my horror writing.

i know i'm a Good writer obviously. but i often think about fandom in terms of interaction with other people. i write a lot of dark shit in my own time that's just for me, but i'd sorta gotten used to thinking of fandom as being somewhere that i should write easy-to-read stuff. i didn't expect anybody to want to read anything else

(this isn't a Totally unfounded belief -- in my fandom immediately preceding this one, i was extremely invested in a main character with the darkest storyline in the books. at one point i wrote a novella about her and the people surrounding her that she killed/drove to suicide/emotionally destroyed, and unsurprisingly it's almost exclusively been read by like. tumblr mutuals. like ~12 kudos on each installment. which is still more than most writers would get!)

i started writing the longer luz fic bc horror has always been the easiest thing for me to write & i was in a lot of pain that needed venting. i didn't expect there to be an audience for it, i actually had braced myself for pushback bc sometimes certain toh circles can have...... interesting opinions about what is or isn't OK to do to a blorbo.

i really didn't think anyone would like reading my writing if it wasn't funny enough. and it's 100% true that the princess AU has a fraction of the kudos-based readership of wwaitsoatl. but the investment of that small readership is WILD.
