Hey Gene :) Come from my Inkstone 1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?2: What scene did you first put down? and for DMP... 3: What’s your favorite line of narration? 9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?
Come From My Inkstone:
1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?
So, the original fic that inspired Inkstone is The Yiling Patriarch’s Harem Drama by robinthelabyrinth, which is a wacky comedy where NHS writes porn to fundraise for the Burial Mounds, and shenanigans ensue as the gang reacts to fan response. After I got the go ahead to write an adaption of it, the original plan was to alternate between fluffy shenanigans with matchmaking and excerpts from Nie Huiasang’s stories, all heavily flavored by the opinions and political agendas of the Burial Mounds crew. (Jiang Cheng stars in a propaganda style war story as an overture of peace and WWX bragging about his brother, Jin Zixuan gets a story about how he’s much cooler than his dad so please help us, highly romanticized flirtering between NHS, WN, LWJ and WWX, etc) it’d end with political (but also romantic) marriages for everyone and a tentative peace, happy ending, etc.
Unfortunately I have this condition where everything I write turns into a political drama or food porn, and the Burial Mounds don’t have any food, so. Things got more serious than I intended, and trying to track down all the political ramifications for things - and also the amount of fun I was having with the goofy bits - means that the fic’s outline has expanded a lot xD  Also I have all these Nie brothers feelings and they ended up bursting out here
2: What scene did you first put down?
NHS and NMJ’s argument over NHS’s drinking and NHS’s subsequent snit, the first scene of the fic! I tend to write in chronological order, and I didn’t have a super strong idea of what to write, but -
Ok, tangent. When fanwriters talk about muses, there’s usually jokes about the characters kicking the door down and yelling in someone’s head, right? But in general, (or maybe just for me?), it’s more of an intuitive feeling about what a character would do or say. It’s a metaphorical yelling.
So I sat down, not exactly sure of what to write, and was suddenly possessed with the notion that I had to start with the Nies having an argument because there would be no NHS fic without an NMJ to go with him!
Dead Men’s Party:
3: What’s your favorite line of narration?
this is hard, DMP is a very long story xD But “Lexaus had hair the color of a brick and shaped like many little bricks” is a line I’m fond of, in part because one of my friends keeps on riffing off it with me!
9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?
The first several years of writing DMP were with the intention that it would be mostly canon compliant, and would involve a finale where Luxord and Facilier turn into a Nobody and Heartless boss duo due to the endings of KH2 and PatF respectively, and Kairi and Tiana would have to use the power of friendship and also Kairi’s big keyblade to help them return to normal and and chill out.
KH3...radically changed the direction of the fic and the canon compliance of it. [shoves the Luxord is a KHUX implications in a corner. none of this goodbye] Things haven’t diverged yet but we’ll be going canon divergent by the end of Days!
10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?
So! When Princess and the Frog came out in like...2009, I went, I saw, I really enjoyed it, but didn’t think too hard on it - until a couple months later, messing around on a disney kink meme and finding a prompt that was approximately
“Facilier has some legitimate grievances and has gone through some shit - can someone get this man a happier ending and a boyfriend?”
and like, yes. yes he should, actually. but who would be a sufficient boyfriend? they’d need similar interests, of course, gambling and divination, probably another antagonist (but a lovable one), someone from a disney franchise - hey, weren’t those shadow monsters in the movie like the Shadow heartless in kingdom hearts? isn’t there KH villain who fits the bill?
Which is to say that Luxord is Facilier’s manic pixie dream boyfriend!

Luxord/Reader~ Cost
Gently setting down your cup, you sheepishly pulled your scarf over your chest, hiding away from the growing number of men in the bar. It was typically like this on a Friday night, but you didn’t anticipate the growing number of gamblers in at the bar area, all taking their seats close to a blonde in a black coat. According to the bartender, he was a regular on Saturdays despite his Friday appearance, his focus loosely tied to the growing amounts of bets placed on the table.
He didn’t fit the typical rugged scene of the bar; his hair was cut short without rattiness, the earrings the wore were kept and even on both ears, and his simple but put together attire of a black coat, black pants, and black boots. He looked too put together for a place like this, with drunks and knives in the walls, but then again, neither did you.
You attempted to come early as you always did before every rough man entered the bar, but your late arrival sealed the fate of your growing anxiety within your gut. With the bartender being a friend of yours, you were guarded against the rude drunks who want a quick night no matter how they could get it, but not shielded from the rough atmosphere that made your gut turn.
You looked back up from your drink, your gaze focused on the man yet again. There was something elusive about him, about the way he won every game, about the way his calm demeanor broke through the drunks who lost their money to him- something considered something that ruined families becoming a graceful game at the hands of the man. His tanzanite eyes piercing but contained as they darted from each man’s face, his gloved hands moving with a sophisticated eloquence, everything pointing to a standing of a rich man despite his foreign attire.
Shaking yourself out of your trance as a wave of self-consciousness hit you, you took a drink before your eyes wandered back to the blonde- just for your eyes to meet his. His look filled with a rush of curiosity while your face flushed, pulling yourself away to mess with your drink, trying to calm your nerves. Your gaze in your topaz drink pulled your attention to the nearing footsteps as you continued to aimlessly stir your drink.
“Hello, darling, if I may join you?” His accented voice made your voice catch in your throat as you felt your blush start to run down your neck.
“Yes, of course,” You quietly affirmed, his gloved hand gently taking yours, his lips ghosting over your skin.
“Luxord,” He introduced himself as his eyes met yours, his breath ghosting over the skin of your hands before he took his seat beside you, “If I may ask, what brings one of your statures to as lowly of a place like this?”
“I normally come midafternoon, but I ran behind today and attended despite the rough nature it changes into,” You softly explained, his eyes locked on you as you spoke- something that should arise more anxiety calming you to his trust.
“I am surpised a lady of your beauty was not accompanied by a partner,” Luxord noted, his eyes scanning over your body, “Dressed in a modest attire for this area.”
“Well, I do not intend to conduct in those activities,” You explained, taking a sip of your drink, “I intend to use this as an escape of my tedious life of a storekeeper. Tell me, what do you call your work?”
“Those titles should stay a secret for now, but my title does name me as a gambler,” He smoothly avoided your question, “Tedious, you say?”
“To explain, I put things people have sold me into a backroom and my father takes over from there. The man is terrified I’ll marry a man and have more freedom than a tiny shop and bar allow me.”
“If you permitted, I would greatly enjoy to whisk you away from here,” Luxord offered, his hand gently taking yours, “That is, at a cost.”
“A cost you say?”
“You stay with me as my lady,” He explained with a smoothness of a nonchalant idea, despite it being a gravitating change, “And I will provide you with anything you desire.”
“Anything?” You cocked an eyebrow at him, softly chuckling, “I believe that to be impossible.”
“Would you indulge me to show you it is possible?” Luxord stood, gently leading you out of the bar.
“I need to pay-”
“I already have for you,”
You paused, staring at the man who offered you an offer impossible to refuse but impossible to understand.
“If you must, prove to me it is possible.”

The First Annual Staff Party of the Castle That Never Was
Chapter 2: The Freeshooter
Pairing:  Reader/Organization XIII
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Rating:  M
Read on AO3
Summary:  [Reader-insert Seven Minutes in Heaven with Organization XIII] When you woke up, you were expecting a quiet day off from missions, shared with no-one but yourself. But your day off went terribly, almost predictably, wrong, and by that evening, you'd been roped into contributing towards a potluck dinner and playing some mashup of Seven Minutes in Heaven and Spin the Bottle with your Organization XIII colleagues. Kingdom Hearts help you.
Notes:  Saturday night update time!  Xigbar is awful and I love him so much.  He is for sure in my top 3 favorite Nobodies, and a lot of the time is my actual favorite (sometimes dethroned by Saix, Axel, or Xemnas).  As always, I always follow back!  Requests are open on my main page!
                                       _____________________
The bottle was pointing to Xigbar.
You let out a breath you hadn't even been aware that you'd been holding.  Seven minutes in a closet with the Freeshooter wasn't intimidating at all; heck, you needed both hands to count the number of times the two of you had spent over an hour in various cramped, obscure spaces, waiting for the right target or intel on reconnaissance missions.  This was nothing.
“Looks like you're stuck with me, sweetheart,” the Freeshooter joked, elbowing you playfully as he stood up from his seat next to you.
“However will I survive?”  You grinned, giving his shoulder a playful shove in return.  Much to your surprise, the Freeshooter’s ever-present smirk softened, and he offered you a calloused, un-gloved hand.  You raised your eyebrows at him in suspicion; it wasn't often that the devilish man actually tried being considerate.  Xigbar raised his eyebrows back at you, moving his hand closer in what appeared to be a genuine desire to be gentlemanly for once.  Who’d have thought he had it in him?
With a tentative smile back at the man, you placed your un-gloved hand in his palm, noticing how strange it felt to actually be touching skin-to-skin.  All the Organization clothes normally prevented much direct contact, after all.  If you were being totally honest with yourself, Xigbar's broad hand felt nice in yours.  Reassuring, almost.
The Freeshooter pulled you up to your feet, and you motioned to pull your hand away now that he had done his job.  But Xigbar’s smile quickly returned to his usual shit-eating variety as his grip tightened, nearly crushing your hand and preventing your escape.
“Look at them, holding hands!”  Axel jeered, while someone else – Luxord? – wolf-whistled.  “Told you they were more than just friends!”  The redhead elbowed Demyx, his seatmate, with a knowing wink in your direction.
“Go Xigbar!”  Demyx laughed, clapping amusedly.  “I always knew you’d score with her eventually!”
You very suddenly felt like punching Demyx.  Hard.
If you didn't punch Xigbar first.
The impossible man was laughing that downright impish laugh of his, dragging you off to the closet amidst more jeering, still clasping your hand tight enough that you couldn’t get it out.  Why were you friends with him again?!
As soon as the closet door was opened, you stumbled in to the darkness and away from your atrocious colleagues, finally wrenching your hand away from Xigbar.  You were blushing so badly you could feel it in your cheeks and hear it in a roaring in your ears.  Xigbar paused before entering, yelling something out to the partygoers – you were sure you didn’t want to know what, and actually felt grateful you were too flustered to make it out – before finally closing the closet door behind him.
“You're probably the biggest jerk I know.  I hope you realize that,” you growled, sliding down to a sitting position against the far wall of the closet.  Xigbar laughed, and you couldn't help but smile just a little bit too.  As much as you didn't want to admit it at the moment, his antics always did amuse you.
“Yeah,” Xigbar agreed in a lazy drawl.  His shoes softly pattered on the ground, and you figured he was walking over towards you by the sound.  As your eyes adjusted to the darkness of the closet, you could make out his silhouette approaching, illuminated by the crack under the heavy closet door.  “You don’t even know the half of it.  But hey, I keep things lively around here, and nobody really gets hurt.  Most of the time.”  A soft swish met your ears as Xigbar pressed his back against the wall, sliding down until he was sitting by your side.  Ever confident and casual, he draped one arm, surprisingly heavy with lean muscle, over your shoulders.
“Most of the time,” you echoed, a tinge of amusement leaking into your voice.  You were pretty certain that you'd never again be able to convince Axel or Demyx or Luxord or…anyone, really…that you and Xigbar were just friends.  The rest of your nonexistence would probably be spent enduring their teasing.  The thought was a little bit less than appealing, but you just couldn't stay mad at Xigbar for it somehow.
“You're pretty lucky you only got stuck with me, though, sweetheart,” Xigbar laughed, giving your shoulders a friendly squeeze.  “Imagine if you had to be in here with Vexen?”
“Hey, he's not that bad,” you said, aware that the Freeshooter would probably always be at odds with the Academic.
“Whatever.  The point is, you coulda been stuck in here with someone like Xemnas or Saix.  I know I'm not Marluxia -”
“Ugh,” you interjected, wrinkling your nose at the thought.
“No?”  Xigbar drawled.  “Here I was, thinking that Flower Boy was your little crush all this time, what with that face of his…”
“No!”  You laughed, shaking your head vigorously at the thought.  “He’s so not my type!”
“Then what is your type?”  The Freeshooter asked, his voice suddenly very serious.  In the dark, you could see his golden eye watching you with alarming studiousness; you’d seen that look on him before, when he was sizing up a target on a mission.  You were vaguely aware that alarm bells were going off in the back of your mind; Xigbar was an easy-going jokester on the outside, but you knew that at his core, he was clever, cunning – conniving, even.  The Freeshooter was planning something, and you had a feeling he was going to make sure you would play right into his hands.
“Man, I don’t know,” you sighed, tipping your head back against the wall, trying to choose your words carefully; the slightest slip could be what Xigbar was looking for.  “I guess…I’m more into guys with more of a rugged handsomeness, you know?  Don’t get me wrong, Marluxia is definitely handsome,” you added, stopping Xigbar before he even started.  “But his face is so perfect it’s almost, like, scary.  I want more of a manly man, who’s a little less…”
“Pink?”  The Freeshooter offered, a pleased grin spreading across his face again.
“I guess, yeah,” you admitted, unable to restrain a giggle or two.  You changed the topic abruptly, wanting the focus off yourself and that dangerous gleam out of your friend’s good eye.  “But okay, what about you, Xig?  What’s your type?”
“Well,” Xigbar murmured, the hand around your shoulders sliding down to your waist.  “If you really want to know, little lady…”  His breath was in your ear, whispering conspiratorially as it had so many times in the past, but this time, there was more than simple scheming in his tone.  “I’d say my type is you.”
“C’mon, Xig, quit joking around,” you sighed, rolling your eyes.  He could be such a tease.  Ordinarily you found his ragging amusing, but this time, it irritated you.  Xigbar certainly had his own sort of devilish charm, even despite – or maybe because of – his scar and eye patch, and you’d be lying if you were to say that you hadn’t noticed your attraction to him the moment you met him.  Hearing him joke about being interested in you only stung.
     “Joking?”  Xigbar scoffed.  “As if.”
The hand around your waist tugged you just a little closer, and you found yourself turning towards the Freeshooter, watching his face carefully – suspiciously, even.  Your eyes darted down to his mouth – that attractive, always smirking mouth of his – and back up to his golden eye, which was fixed on you with an intense gaze.
Maybe he really had been serious.
You barely had time for that thought before Xigbar pressed his lips to yours gently.  Your breath caught, your head swam, and you did the only thing that made sense.  You kissed him back.
The Freeshooter pulled away too soon for your liking, and you made a small sound in the back of your throat, immediately hoping against hope that it had gone unnoticed.  Xigbar heard it, though, and laughed.
“I'll take that to mean that you want more.”
The strong arm wrapped around your waist pulled you onto the Freeshooter’s lap so that you were chest-to-chest with him, your legs straddling his.  The position seemed undignified to you, somehow, and you were about to protest when Xigbar's lips covered yours a second time.  Instead, you melted into the kiss.
Xigbar snuck one hand up the back of your shirt, teasing your bare skin and fiddling dangerously close to your bra clasp.  His other hand traced circles on your inner thigh, making you shiver.
And then, just as you let out a quiet moan, a sudden flood of light overwhelmed the room.
"Time's up, lovers!”  Axel jeered, a camera in his hands.
“Out of the closet, Xiggy.  You two will have to finish things up later,” Demyx added with a suggestive waggle of his eyebrows.
“As if,” Xigbar grinned, wrapping one arm around you more tightly, shifting you out of the way just the tiniest amount.  An arrowgun appeared in his other free hand; the Freeshooter waved it lazily as he spoke.  “Let’s get something straight here, kiddos.  I’m Number Two in this Organization.”  A single bullet tore out of the gun, finding its mark in Axel’s camera.  The device fried in the Flame’s hands, electricity crackling as it short-circuited.  Xigbar’s grin widened.  “And I don’t take orders from you.  So I’ll be finishing things up whenever my little lady wants.”  You didn’t miss the way he had deliberately called you his, or the triumphant gleam in his eye as he said it.  So this was what the Freeshooter had been plotting…well, you had to admit, you didn’t mind playing into his hands on this one.
“Well?”  Xigbar murmured to you, keeping his gun fixed on the figures in the door.  You had a feeling, somehow, that they wouldn’t be harassing you about your relationship with Xigbar anymore.  “Just say the word and I’ll teleport us out of here to somewhere more…fun.”
You couldn’t help but smile as you nestled closer against Xigbar, wrapping your arms more tightly around his lean-muscled shoulders in anticipation of his use of his space powers.  Planting a kiss on his scarred cheek, you whispered in his ear.
     “Let’s go.”

Can I request some scenarios where the Organization members think their lover is missing but it turned out they were napping in another world and forgot to RTC?
Y’know, that’s something I could very easily see happening with myself. Both as the one napping, and as the one getting worried.
Xemnas
Xemnas can’t quite parse what he feels when you take far too long
(Well, first of all, he shouldn’t be able to feel in the first place, but that’s besides the point. It’s definitely not what he’s thinking about now.)
Starts making plans for your rescue missions. Saix has had to send Roxas to fetch Xaldin, too, so it’s not like it’d be the first time one Organization member has to look for another
He does catch himself wanting to hand out far more missions for finding you than he would for any other member of the Organization, and forces himself to make less
He leaves his room to hand Saix the mission plans when he sees you
You’re still kinda sleepy, and don’t even notice Xemnas at first until he speaks
“Well, where have you been?”
Just like before, he can’t quite parse what he’s feeling (Hint, Xemmy, it’s called relief)
He has to dump all the mission plans into the trash, of course, but strangely, he doesn’t even care about that
Xigbar
Yeah, no
The moment there’s any doubt you’re safe, XIgbar warps outta whatever he’s doing
He doesn’t even explain. He just goes.
Even if it was in a conversation. “Oh, Xigbar, they haven’t come back from their mission yet–” - “Okay. *leaves*”
He didn’t plan on getting attached, he didn’t want to get attached, but now that he is, he’ll make damn sure you’re safe!
When he finds you napping, he’s in equal parts relieved and amused
He manages to pick you up without waking you, and puts you back down in the most outrageous place he can think of, to give you a moment of confusion and/or shock when you wake up
Of course, he’ll stay nearby to see it
And he won’t let you live it down for ages
Xaldin
He completely ignores how worried he is
After all, he’s a Nobody. He can’t feel such things.
Lexaeus comes to check on him, ask if he plans on going out to look for you, but Xaldin blows him off
He pretty much just distracts himself with work, pushing out as far out of his mind as he can
He’s… More or less successful
There is this voice in the back of his head, wondering whether you’re okay, whether he should go looking for you after all
And he doesn’t manage to silence it, not really
Still, Xaldin stays until you finally come back and go into his room
He drops whatever he’s doing - Literally, if he’s currently holding something - to pull you into a tight embrace
He doesn’t even notice he’s crying until after he lets go of you
“I was worried you might be gone…”
Once he notices how he’s acting, Xaldin very quickly pulls himself together and puts on his cold demeanor again
However, it does make him think about the whole “I don’t have feelings, I’m a Nobody” thing
Vexen
He… Honestly might not even have noticed himself
He was busy in his lab when one of the others comes in to ask if you’re down there
That’s when he notices how late it is
He could’ve sworn it was several hours earlier
He asks how long you’ve been missing - a couple hours - and immediately starts getting worried
Since there’s no proof you’re hurt, he does take the time to wrap up his experiment, at least enough that nothing will be messed up when he returns, even if it ends up taking longer
Once that’s done, he starts questioning Saix for details about your mission - Where it was, what you were meant to do, etc
He’s just about to go look for you when you return, a few blades of grass still stuck in your hair
While Vexen does remind you to come back first before goofing off, he’s not really mad
And while he’d be really bad at admitting it, he’s really happy you’re back safe and sound
Lexaeus
Lexaeus knows that sometimes, missions just take a little longer. Maybe it was harder than expected, or maybe you just got distracted
But despite that, he’s kind of worried
Once his work is done, he requests permission to go look for you, which is granted
Lex is very systematic in his search, which makes it a lot faster than it could have been
When he sees you asleep, he’s more relieved than he thought he’d be
He picks you up and goes back to the Castle - More precisely, to your room, where he drops you in your bed
Afterwards, he informs Saix you’re found and save, but that your report will take a little bit longer
The good thing about consistently being reliable: People don’t question you too much
In this case, it means Saix just accepts what Lex says and focuses on other things
Zexion
Claims he’s not worried at all
... claims.
In fact, he’s seriously worried. But, well, he’s a Nobody, he can’t admit he’s feeling stuff like worry, right?
He pretty quickly ends up in the library, being surrounded by books calms him down
And that allows him to think about it a bit more logically
Members being somewhat late is normal. And it’s neither your first mission, nor is it supposed to be much harder than the others
On the other hand, while some hold-ups are perfectly harmless, when missions don’t go according to plan, it can be dangerous
And in those cases, help arriving earlier means lower chances of lasting harm
Thus he makes his decision, to go and look for you
Zexion was prepared for quite a few things, but not for finding you asleep
At least that means you’re safe and sound
He gently shakes your shoulder to wake you up, reminding you that Saix would be furious if he found out
Saix
Outwardly, he seems calm
Well, at least as long as others are around
Inwardly, he’s really worried and impatient; and when nobody else is around, he’s constantly tapping his fingers, interrupting his work to look out the window, etc
He can barely focus, but he doesn’t even care about the extra work he’ll have to do tomorrow; he just wants to know you back safe
He already decided to wait a while longer - He knows that unforeseen things can happen during missions - and send someone to look for you tomorrow
Yeah, that goes against what he said when Xion was missing, but he doesn’t care
Luckily, you’re back before that
Saix calls you to his room; he doesn’t want to lose his composure in front of the others
Once the door is closed, he rushes to your side and puts his hands on your shoulders
“What happened, dear? Why did it take so much longer?”
When you tell him you were just napping, you can see his face harden
If you’ve known him for long enough, you can see that it’s thanks to a mixture of anger, relief, and embarrassment
Saix might be rather cold to you for a while, but he does ask you to please report back between finishing a mission and napping in a different world
Axel
He tries to play it cool
Tries
Paces all around his room, trying to decide whether he should go look for you or trust that you can manage on your own
Last two times someone he cares about being late did not mean good things
Xion who had lost her ability to wield her keyblade
And before that, Saix, who came back with a huge scar, a different eye color, and was overall different
He decides to go look for you when he can’t bear just sitting around anymore
He finds you pretty quickly - After all, you weren’t lost. Just napping.
He’s way too relieved to feel angry
You wake up because he throws his arms around you and pulls you close
“Oh, please never scare me like this again!”
Demyx
Honestly, Dem has done the same thing
So while he is worried, he’s not that worried. He knows you, and he knows that it’s pretty likely you’ve just fallen asleep somewhere
He pretty much uses it as an excuse to slack off himself
Claims he’ll go look for you, in case you’re in trouble - And if you were in trouble, he would! (Probably)
When he finds you, he just flops down next to you and takes a nap as well
So when you wake up, you notice him next to you
And it’s already way later than the time you’d have been supposed to return
Demyx comes up with a pretty good cover story about a strong Heartless you didn’t expect, and that you’ve really been fighting until now!
(Of course, Saix doesn’t buy it. But he also can’t proof it didn’t hapen)
You do notice that you end up with some more and harder missions for a bit, but you can imagine it’s much better than what you’d have ended up with if Demyx hadn’t made up his little story
Luxord
One of the few who’re genuinely not too worried
Yes, he’d prefer if you’d be back already, but by now, it’s hardly an unusual amount of time
And he knows the mission was one you could handle
So he just spends his time doing reports and other necessary stuff
He does, however, take a few more small breaks to ask whether you’ve returned by now
But unless your “nap” ends up being more than 8 hours, he can manage waiting
Once you do finally come back, he’ll be waiting with a game and maybe a nice glass of wine
Marluxia
There are two options with Marluxia when you’re late
Usually, he’d have absolutely no problem waiting for you in the Castle
He’s not even really worried; it’s not that he doesn’t care about you. He simply trusts your strength and that you can handle the mission
In those cases, he simply does what he does when you’re not together - Work, tend to his garden, et cetera
However, there is also the chance that he suddenly gets almost ridiculously worried about it
Marly isn’t really sure what causes that. It seems like it’d be more likely to happen if he hasn’t slept well the night before, plagued by dreams of flowers and dawn that he can’t quite remember, but that’s not the only thing that can make him worry this much
In those cases, he starts worrying if you’re just a few minutes later than expected
And while he can hide it well enough when other people are around, once he’s alone, he can’t focus at all and would just pace around his room
And since he can’t really do much else, he usually just goes to look for you; if Larxene notices, she might even help him out, though he wouldn’t ask her
When Marluxia finds you, he plays his worry down, a lot; at least partially because he doesn’t even quite understand it himself. He knows you’re most likely not in any danger, and there are so many times he didn’t worry, so why now?
Larxene
She waits for a while, rather impatiently, to see whether it was just a normal hangup, the kind that happens from time to time
And then she leaves to go find you
Doesn’t matter if there’s still work for her, or if Saix tries to stop her
If he tries, she just glares at him and leaves anyway. You’re more important than anything that self-absorbed bastard could want
It takes her a bit to find you, since she starts at the place your main target was meant to be - If you’ve run into problems, that would be the most likely place
But when you’re not there, she starts searching the area
And finds you napping
Larxene actually facepalms. That was why you were late?
Of course she’s glad you’re not dead, but she’s pretty pissed off that you made her worry
You wake up thanks to a small electro shock. Nothing harmful, but definitely a bit painful
“That’s what you get for scaring me like that.”
She gives you a hand and pulls you to your feet, giving you a quick kiss (and another, way weaker shock) in the process
“Good to know you’re just lazy, not dead.”
Roxas
Really worried really quickly
Asks Axel if he should get Xion and have all three of them look for you
Axel first tries calming him down, but tbh he’s worried himself - As Roxas’s partner, you’re pretty much one of his stray puppies, too
And yes, the boys do grab Xion and go look for you
Since there’s three of them, it doesn’t take long
Axel finds you, and pretty much just slings you over his shoulder so he can take you to Roxas, show him you’re all right
He is… Not sure how to react
He’s definitely happy, he just doesn’t know what to do now, so he just ends up saying something like “Oh, it’s… Good you’re safe.”
(Will hug you back if you hug him though)
Xion
She takes a bit longer to really worry than Roxas did
After all, when she was literally days late rather than just hours, she wasn’t hurt. There were some problems, yes, but she hadn’t been in imminent danger
Still, she does end up worried, and asks Roxas and Axel to help her look
(They agree, of course)
It takes some searching before Xion literally stumbles over you; your napping place was kinda hidden
Someone tripping over you of course wakes you up
Once Xion notices who she’s tripped over, she kneels down to give you a hug, and asks you not to disappear like that again
When that’s taken care of, the two of you go to Axel and Roxas to tell them you’re found and thus don’t need to be searched for anymore

talk to me about ienzo spending his growing years being an emotionless husk and therefore not understanding what it means to be a person because he literally never learned out how, the years a person uses to discover themselves, establishing an identity were robbed from him, killed as a child and then waking up as an adult, how does this make you feel
Oooohhhh fuck yeah babey! Whippin' out google docs for this one. I've made so many essays on Ienzo and his emotional/mental development, or really lack thereof, and how absolutely pissed off it makes me. Like it really all just loops back around to me hating adults, but kfjvivjck here we go for the hundredth time cuz I literally cannot shut up about best boy and how tragic he is.
Okay so, like,,, we gotta start at the beginning here. Cuz Ienzo's got no parents. We don't know for sure what happened to them and if it was tragic or not and if it was we also don't know if Ienzo happened to see anything bad or not. There's just no way to know. But regardless! At some point Ienzo was taken in by Ansem the Wise. Surrounding Ienzo is Ansem, obviously, Even, who's pretty cranky and kinda egotistical, Dilan, a very uncaring guy, Aeleus, who obviously did care but clearly never did anything, and Braig, who well… regardless of if you think he was Luxu the whole time or not, is still not a good influence. So this is a small child sorta being raised by some not so perfect father-figures. Even tho Ansem cared I'm sure he was still busy a lot. Even was shown to be in charge of watching him but Ienzo did run off at one point implying him sneaking away is a common occurrence and/or Even isn't good at watching him like he's supposed to.
And let's keep in mind that even before Terranort showed up human experimentation was something that was happening in the castle. I dunno if all the apprentices were partaking in that before Terranort's arrival, but they definitely were afterward. And now we get into the beginning of the worst part.
Ienzo starts getting manipulated. Ansem the Wise's reports say the lab in the basement was a decision spurred on by Ienzo. Ansem had that lab built cuz Ienzo convinced him. A small child told his father figure that building a lab meant for human experiments would be a good idea. There's no way in hell Ienzo made that decision himself. He is a child who trusts the only adults that have raised him so far. If they tell him to do something he would likely do it. So Ienzo was manipulated(most likely by Terranort or Luxu) into manipulating what's basically his adoptive father.
Then it all just keeps getting worse! Eventually Ansem finds out what's going on in that lab in the basement. He wants it all shut down, but no one's going to listen to him. They've been too manipulated themselves by Terranort and Luxu. The other apprentices banish him to the Realm of Darkness and at some point Ienzo's going to have to know where Ansem went. So what do they tell him? They tell this little boy that his adoptive father went fucking mad. And not only that, but also that he fucking abandoned them! Just lost his mind and left them all, Ienzo included! And like, sure! They don't want Ienzo to know that they've become the bad guys, maybe they think it's the lesser of two evil explanations, but by how pained the poor man looked in 3, clearly what he was told had been eating at him for a whole decade. He'd been clinging onto that answer he was given ever since that day and realizing that he'd been lied to brought out just as many emotions as seeing Ansem return did.
And just when you think it can't get any worse, we reach the pinnacle. The day everyone became Nobodies. It was pretty much a choice everyone made. Dilan being the most willing, and Luxu apparently having no idea that was part of the plan considering his reaction. Or he at least didn't plan on getting stabbed by Terranort with his own Keyblade to make it happen. Anyway, I highly doubt Aeleus was truly okay with the whole thing without a ton of manipulation. And for Even it probably took less manipulation but, my point. Those two did need at least some manipulation unlike Terranort and Luxu. But Terranort was obviously being manipulated Luxu but that's not really what I'm talking about here. Anyway, Dilan has been proven to be just kinda shitty in general in a previous analysis of mine so I feel he was pretty much on board from the start, he just needed some talking to first.
So back to Ienzo! Again, there's no way this child willingly made the decision to become a Nobody. But, at this point the kid has lost his adoptive father, these are the only people he trusts, and he's a damn child! He is malleable and would believe whatever he's told since he believed Ansem really did abandon them. He's gonna trust that whatever becoming a Nobody means would actually be a good thing. And I doubt that even if Terranort and/or Luxu explained the whole deal to the other three that they'd also give the full picture to Ienzo.
So poor boy gets stabbed by Terranort and ends up a Nobody. At some point they go to The World That Never Was and take up home there. Zexion isn't the only kid in the Org, but Axel and Saix likely did keep more to themselves, plus they're teenagers and at this point 16/17 so they're almost adults. But anyway, he's in this new place that's all white and honestly to me feels like a stone cold prison from the atmosphere it gives off in Days.
And included in the whole ordeal is what comes with being a Nobody. Obviously we know everyone was lied to about not being able to get their hearts back without Kingdom Hearts, but they didn't know that. Zexion's just a kid and he's being told he doesn't have a heart anymore nor can he get it back unless they work on completing Kingdom Hearts. He's told he can't feel emotions without a heart, so he's going to question every little thing he feels and be in denial about it being emotions. And even tho he doesn't believe he can feel emotions, he still can. How else is he supposed to get a new heart eventually if he can't anyway?
So, like plenty of teens, Zexion gets angry that he can't control his life and he's stuck in the situation he's in now. He becomes the snarky Zexion that we all know. All his backhanded talk is his way of letting out even the smallest amount of frustration he can while not acting out in a way that'll get him in trouble with Xemnas. All his caretakers have become kinda worse people and he ends up surrounded by even more people that are kinda shitty. I mean, Luxord's pretty normal tho so he might be excluded from that. But then there's Lexaeus, who was shown to be regretful of leaving Zexion alone after he loses to Riku. It's pretty clear that he's the first person that really regrets the way everything has turned out, or who has at least expressed it at that point, and is upset that Zexion had to be apart of it all. But other than that it doesn't seem like anyone really cares for Zexion. He and Vexen have mostly been shown bickering and in the extra scene in KH2 Xigbar/Luxu seems to just like teasing Zexion. He even brought up the experiments they did which is likely a sore spot for Zexion considering everything he's been through.
And then there's the way he goes out. Getting strangled to death by Repliku on Axel's orders. I've gone over this one in detail before but if I'm gonna have everything on this post I might as well do it again in a condensed form. We don't really know the extent of Ienzo's relationship with Lea and Isa, but they had to have at least known each other when the two ended up becoming apprentices. And growing up in the Org together they had to have done missions together at least a few times and they were in meeting together and all that. Since those two were on the younger end as well, they had to have some understanding of how Zexion was feeling through it all. And yet Axel and Saix had it planned the whole time that Zexion was going to die at Castle Oblivion along with everyone else. This little kid that they'd known since their Radiant Garden days, dying like the others so they could get closer to having a chance to figure out what happened to a girl that Saix started questioning the very existence of. And then you have to wonder about how that affected Ienzo. Was there ever a moment where he was scared to see Riku again after a fake version killed him? Does he secretly hold it against Lea? Does he have nightmares of getting choked???
And after the worst of it is over, he finally wakes up and he's himself again. He's home, but during his reunion with Ansem is when we finally see the lasting effects of everything he's been through. He says he was just a boy, but he should have known better. That means all these years Ienzo believed he should have done something. Even as a child he should have been able to see past the manipulation and put a stop to it. But that's wrong. So completely wrong. He was a child while everyone else was an adult. Ienzo shouldn't have to keep all that guilt of not being able to do anything on his shoulders. It should have been the adults' responsibility to protect Ienzo. Being a child in the first place means he's prone to blaming himself and thinking everything was his fault. If only he could have seen through the manipulation, told Ansem when he was still around, or another adult not involved, or stopped them all himself then none of this would have happened. That's what he tells himself, which is so horribly wrong. And even as an adult he carries all that guilt around which means he was never able to realize that he couldn't have done much, if anything, and he shouldn't have had to in the first place. He doesn't realize it was the adults' responsibility. That's where the stunted maturity comes in. In that aspect he still thinks like a child cuz he never truly got to grow up from being one. He still has all that guilt even after eleven years.
And it all fucking kills me. That's how it makes me feel. It makes me continue to feel my life long contempt for adults that don't care for children cuz children are apparently inferior. And no matter what kids are going to blame themselves, even if they know they shouldn't. Even if they're self aware enough to know it's a thing kids just naturally do, they're still prone to it. And by God if there's anything so deeply realistic in anything Nomura has ever done, it's Ienzo's characterization. It's how real and human he is despite being a fictional character. Him and his struggles feel so real because we were all kids and so many of us have had fucked up parts of our childhood and if there's one relatable thing in Kingdom Hearts it's the guilt Ienzo has felt for eleven goddamn years and I'm gonna fuckin cry and this time it's not about the reunion scene. Ienzo just means that fucking much to me for all the bullshit he's had to unwillingly put up with cuz of crappy adults.

It's funny that Organization Rehash was somehow more treacherous than the first one when part of the idea behind Xehanort putting his heart into all of them was to get around that problem
Tumblr media
I know! The way the Seekers of Darkness were handled pissed me off so much! Most of them were ruined. The whole point of Xemnas completing Kingdom Hearts was to put Xehanort’s heart and mind into all the original members so that they had no free will. They would literally become another Xehanort. Being a Nobody was not enough to Nort someone. KH3 got around this in the most lazy way possible by saying that they all just joined the True Organization by choice. How lucky for Xehanort, right? This is a relevant post I’ve done about this subject. I’m actually surprised I haven’t seen more people complaining about this egregious plot hole. I brought it up before on a different forum and some fans would just make the dumbest excuses, I swear. “Saïx only had a small piece of Xehanort’s heart in him!” (LOL.)
Ok, so what difference did it even make then? Why did it even matter that he, along with Xigbar, had yellow eyes and pointy ears all along? Weren’t they supposed to be different from the other members? Also, what’s the point of vessels being “raw material” for the X-Blade? Why was Xehanort conducting mind control experiments? Why go to such lengths to show Axel grieving about how much his best friend had changed, if Xehanort’s heart had literally no significant influence on him? God, even Xemnas was treated more respectfully than Saïx was because of this. I actually liked his dialogue at the end about how being human must take incredible strength. It was one of the most memorable lines in the game for me.
Tumblr media
How did Xion ever become a Seeker of Darkness? Her switching sides was laughably easy. Roxas and Xion’s dialogue was just so atrocious. I was embarrassed while watching all the scenes with them. Also, if Saïx was supposed to be the one who brought back Roxas and Xion, why are we supposed to take pleasure in his boss fight again? It was treated like Roxas and Xion were getting revenge and it was supposed to be enjoyable to clobber him. Then Roxas and Xion felt pity for him afterwards. And Roxas even acknowledged that he knew Saïx helped to bring him back before their fight. How did he even know that? Well, because his dialogue was written so that the audience could know. Since all of this was shoehorned in at the last minute, Saïx’s redemption happened off-screen. So Roxas had to fill us in on why he was there. It was all so forced, just like the Subject X info dump.
The game totally wanted to have its cake and eat it, too. They wanted Saïx to betray Xehanort so he could be Lea’s innocent ice cream-loving childhood friend in the epilogue (which was his intended role in the ending all along). But they still wanted to treat him like a villain for Roxas and Xion to clobber. The problem is that both of those things clash very badly. They’re not compatible with each other in the slightest. You can’t do both. His redemption didn’t feel convincing at all because of this. And his scene at the clock tower just made it seem like he had no excuse for his actions from the previous games. Why the hell is he all friendly NOW when he was previously trying to kill Axel?
Tumblr media
I did see a lot of complaints about how all the villains got “redeemed” at the end. They spent the whole game being evil, then they act all nice to Sora after they’re beaten? Why? Well, it was extremely obvious to me that they were supposed to be possessed.
Their actions would have made perfect sense if Xehanort had simply been controlling them the whole time. Then of course they’d be grateful to Sora for releasing them. A big pillar of darkness gets expelled from them after they’re defeated, then they act totally different. Gee, I wonder why? Larxene actually acted confused after she was beaten. She did NOT act like she was in control of herself prior to this.
Tumblr media
Furthermore, once she became aware of herself, she was horrified. She looked like she felt violated. Like she had something done to her without her knowledge or consent. I don’t think for a second that Larxene signed up to be a Seeker of Darkness.
Tumblr media
I also found it interesting that she spoke as if she weren’t already that geezer’s heart tank. Once Xehanort’s heart is implanted, it’s supposed to gradually take over the person’s heart. Maybe Sora just needed to defeat members like Larxene, Marluxia, and Luxord. They’d go back to normal afterwards because they were not Norted for that long. They had yellow eyes, but their ears weren’t even pointy.
I also think they became vessels by being turned into Nobodies again, so it made sense that they faded away after their battle. They’d be recompleted. But Terra and Isa were supposed to be different. They needed to have the power of waking used on them because their hearts were lost like a decade ago. And neither of them were Norted as Nobodies, either. Saïx shouldn’t have faded away after his battle.
Tumblr media
Marluxia also did not act like he was aware of himself beforehand.
Tumblr media
He also said his heart was remembering how to feel. I’m sure he was supposed to have a different backstory than what he has now to explain this.
Tumblr media
He was all grateful to Sora after being defeated. This makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever unless he was being totally controlled.
Tumblr media
Luxord and Sora were acting like old pals after their battle. Luxord never seemed like a bad guy, anyways. He gave Sora a wild card and then said he’d like to play a game with him. I think Marluxia, Larxene, and Luxord were done a tremendous disservice by making it so that they were self-aware for the whole game. But Isa by far came out the worst because of this. He was utterly decimated beyond repair. His whole character revolved around being possessed. That was THE most important thing about him. It was the ONLY thing that could excuse his actions and allow Lea and Isa to go back to being inseparable right after the final battle. Since he was possessed, they didn’t hold back making him as nasty as possible. Now it’s biting them in the ass.
Tumblr media
Braig joined Xehanort to wield a Keyblade. And he actually doesn’t fade away after his defeat like the others. I don’t think that was a coincidence. It’s probably because he became Norted as a human. He wasn’t a Nobody during his boss battle.
Tumblr media
I’m also 100% sure it wasn’t a coincidence that he just happened to “pretend” to commit suicide after his defeat. That was no doubt the original end planned for Braig ever since Days and BBS. He was always haunted by the things he did. I think he was especially haunted by what he did to Isa, which was why he always had such a bone to pick with Saïx. If he was a Nobody, then his suicide wouldn’t have even mattered because he’d just be recompleted afterwards, anyways. Sora and Riku’s reaction only made sense if he was fully human when he fell off that ledge.
Tumblr media
I will never ever forgive KH3 for its treatment of Isa (and Lea, since Isa was a HUGE part of his character). I’m still heartbroken and angry over it. Isa was treated like a plot device—he only mattered because he brought Lea’s REAL best friends Roxas and Xion back. He wasn’t treated like he mattered as an individual character. He didn’t get a real backstory that showed his pain, how he became Norted or his close relationship with Lea. All this did was make me hate Roxas and Xion in KH3, even though I really liked them in 358/2 Days. It was just so unfair that they got ALL the spotlight at Isa’s expense.
Tumblr media
It was always, always implied that Axel had a VERY sad backstory. He was NEVER EVER comic relief. Not at all. He was the most serious character. His canon backstory was a joke for how poorly it explains his behavior in Days and KH2. He was actually an apprentice all along? And suddenly the only thing that mattered to him was two kids that the story went out if its way to show never even came CLOSE to understanding him?
Not his REAL best friend who became an organization member alongside him and who would understand his suffering? It was heavily implied they were both lab rats. I couldn’t believe Lea even blamed Isa for getting Norted. And apparently all Saïx had to do was admit he was jealous and things are instantly patched up between them? God, it was such a slap in the face as a fan. I felt personally insulted by Isa’s “redemption”.
Tumblr media
Now, it was obvious that they tried to limit the amount of physical contact Lea showed Saïx after his defeat. And they also tried to limit the amount of genuine emotion they were allowed to show at all times. This happened on the clock tower, too. Lea wasn’t allowed to cry for his friend. And even when Saïx admitted he was jealous, he HAD to follow it up with something snarky. He wasn’t allowed to bond with Lea in a genuine manner. I noticed all of this right away. It made me laugh to see how stilted their interactions were.
Apparently Saïx was putting on an “act” the whole time because he was afraid to show his true feelings, I guess? They’re just gonna write off all of his past deeds that way, instead of him being ya know…Norted? Wow. And to top it all off, they tried to make Lea and Isa’s whole relationship revolve around some stupid random girl, which pissed me off so freaking much. It definitely came across like KH3 was extremely paranoid that they might seem gay. So they did everything possible to make their relationship lack genuine emotion and intimacy, destroying it in the process. The handling of their subplot went against all the most important themes of the series. It was utterly pathetic.
Tumblr media
And yet Lea was still holding Saïx in his arms. And it was still pretty intimate from a physical perspective. In fact, Lea shows more intimacy with Saïx in this one single scene than Axel had with Roxas in all of their moments put together. Guess that’s why they had to throw in all the other stuff. To “balance out” more tender moments like this.
The way Lea smiled at him is how I always imagined he would look once he finally rescued Isa. They said “See you” (”Mata na” in Japanese) to each other in a pretty intense and personal way. Especially in the Japanese version. Saïx said it so softly he almost whispered it to Lea. This was obviously something pertaining to their original backstory.
Roxas said “Mata na” to Axel when he was going back to Sora in KH2FM. This made Axel cry. “Mata na” had a LOOOOT more meaning to Axel than it did to Roxas. You see, Roxas was saying it in a casual way, like most would say it. See you later. It was as simple as that. But I think “Mata na” was Lea and Isa’s way of saying they’d see each other again in the next life. Just more evidence that Axel was really crying because he wanted to see Isa and was remembering their promise. Roxas really couldn’t fill the void of Isa. That was the impression I got from that scene.
Tumblr media
People probably would have been very accepting of Lea having strong feelings for Isa. But I think Square/Disney were terrified people would be grossed out if Axel had those same feelings for Saïx. KH3 just sent very conflicting messages due to this identity crisis. Lea was holding his arms out like he could still feel him there after he faded away. It looked VERY similar to when Xion faded away in Roxas’s arms. This demonstrated that Lea had extremely powerful feelings for Isa. The thing is, this was never properly SHOWN in the story. There was all of this implied intimacy between them, but it wasn’t able to be explored in-depth after BBSV2 got axed. And so, KH3 wasn’t allowed to show them being too close because there wasn’t enough time to properly differentiate Isa from Saïx.
And this ruined their relationship. We saw almost nothing to understand why Lea would feel so attached to Saïx or why Isa changed so much since they were kids. All we saw was Saïx being evil and a very short scene of them as kids in BBS trying to sneak into the castle. The audience has little reason to care about this relationship or empathize with Lea’s affections for Isa. They didn’t get enough development. There was no way that Saïx was written as Axel’s best friend if THIS was how the resolution was going to be handled. Their story was incomplete. The way it was handled in KH3 was a complete and utter joke.

“May your heart be your guiding key” (Full thoughts on Kingdom Hearts III below!)
Graphics:
Ø  The game is bloody gorgeous, which helps mitigate the long and frequent cutscenes
Ø  The lip-syncing rarely fails
Music:
Ø  The new remixes are awesome and the brand-new tracks don't disappoint either
Ø  What does though is the actual audio mixing:
More often than not I struggled to hear the music over the sound effects during gameplay and the voiceovers during cutscenes
Ranking the Worlds:
Ø  #1: Corona: The world is huge, with varied terrain and a kick-ass final boss
Ø  #2 Olympus: The sheer scale and scope of the world took my breath away, plus we (finally!) get to fight all four titans
Ø  #3 The Caribbean: Assassin's Creed IV meets Kingdom Hearts, what's not to like
Ø  #4 Monstropolis: While not as eye-catching as some of the other worlds the way it intersects with the broader KH lore is really neat and the final cutscene was a delight in that it averts the Disney characters being useless when dealing with the original KH villains, on top of which its straightforward design is a nice change of pace, my only complaint is that there are only four types of Unversed
Ø  #5 San Fransokyo: The story is surprisingly short, which means you don't really get the chance to explore the environment, which sucks because the verticality and day/night cycle are awesome, plus there are a number of memorable boss fights
Ø  #6 Twilight Town: If it had been fully recreated based off the KH2 version the world would be much higher on my list but despite how small it is I love the liveliness, not to mention how peaceful it is in comparison to the other worlds, the same can be said for Hundred Acre Wood
Ø  #7 Keyblade Graveyard + Final World + Scala Ad Caelum: Though jaw-dropping in terms of visuals and audio they're not fully realized worlds, the same can be said for Dark World
Ø  #8 Toy Box: I loved the final boss as well as how the story tied into the larger plot of the game and I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy exploring Andy's room while "You have a friend in me" played in the background
Why then is Toy Box so far down on my list, world design
Even with endgame stats (LV40-45) the Gigas are tough to take down and as a result they come off as gimmicky in the worst sense of the word, beyond that the fact that the majority of the world is set in Galaxy Toys made me feel constrained and claustrophobic, which could have been partially alleviated if we'd been allowed to make our way through the parking lot outside, finally, the story kind of got repetitive with the backtracking whenever the characters were about to leave because "someone went missing yet again"
Ø  #9 Arrendelle: Though it has one of the best final bosses in the game along with Corona there is so much wrong with this world that I wonder if it's less Square Enix's fault and more Disney placing an insane amount of red tape on their favorite cash-cow:
1) Elsa does not become a party member even after you beat the world
2) You do not get to explore the city or the ice palace despite the latter being fully rendered on the map
3) Larxene, a lightning-based character, randomly traps you in an ice labyrinth when that would have made a lot more sense both logically and thematically if it had been Elsa
4) Speaking of Larxene, she does practically nothing the whole time you're there unlike Marluxia and Luxord, who are at least semi-active
5) You climb a mountain and get knocked off of it so many times that even Sora gets fed up
6) The bloody minigame where you have to find Olaf's body parts
7) Forcing us to watch the entire "Let it go" sequence and then having "Do you want to build a snowman" play over Anna's voice as she's explaining herself to Sora
8) So much of the story is excised that you have little clue as to what's going on to the point Hans appears for all of five minutes, doesn't say any lines, and isn't even named when it would have been cool, not to mention, just plain better, if he had started off as a guest member of your party
9) As a result of #8 Sora, Donald, and Goofy's presence feels like even more of an afterthought than usual in the sense that them not being there wouldn't have changed anything at all apart from Hans' Heartless then having no one to defeat it which can be seen by the fact that when they leave no one tells them goodbye unlike in every other world
10) The visual design was bland and tiresome after a while
11) The world's gimmick was uninspired to say the least
12) Fighting alongside a giant snowman (AKA Marshmallow) was awesome and in terms of pure gameplay the labyrinth was actually quite fun
Story Pros:
Ø  Master Xehanort's new voice actor is good but after hearing Leonard Nimoy's voice for the past couple of games the change is a bit jarring
Ø  The way previous games are referenced and tied together is a nice way of bringing new players into the fold while also setting up the finale's resolutions
Ø  The game has a better sense of humor than previous installments
Ø  Sora is more like his KH2 self than the bland caricature we saw in 3D and quite a few characters display some degree of genre-savviness
Ø  Master Yen Sid gets out of his chair to lend a hand for once
Ø  Donald Duck is the most powerful mage in Square Enix canon (and I am not making that up)
Gameplay Pros:
Ø  Being able to switch between different save points in the same world is a welcome addition
Ø  The secondary ability of all shotlocks to airstep is ingenious
Ø  You can have more than two party members finally!
Ø  The secret ending isn't too hard to unlock
Ø  You can upgrade your Keyblades, which means older ones aren't automatically relegated to redundancy
Ø  Donald and Goofy are useful again after being nerfed into uselessness in KH2
Ø  Towns and cities are actually populated by fully-voiced NPCs!
Ø  Cutscenes in Theater Mode are unlocked after completing each world rather than after beating the game
Ø  I never tried the Classic Kingdom minigames but the cooking one with Remy was a nice break from the normal gameplay (I suck at the egg-cracking one though)
Ø  The camera doesn't get in the way like it infamously did in KH1
Ø  I like the new main menu design (Feel free to disagree though)
Ø  The Gummi Ship is entirely optional outside of a few mandatory boss battles
Ø  Moogle Tickets are a nice way of giving players a second chance during difficult encounters (I do wish they didn’t activate so quickly though)
Gameplay Cons:
Ø  The game never once tells you that you can switch between Situation Commands using L2
Ø  The game never once tells you that you keep all your lower-tier magic (Fire, Fira for example) and that your shortcuts don't automatically update to include the higher-tier version of whatever magic you have equipped
Ø  There's no real incentive to switch between Keyblades (That being said, my favorites are Wheel of Fate, Nano Arms, and Happy Gear/Ever After)
Ø  Attractions lose their charm quickly and completely ruin the flow of combat
Ø  Summons aren't too big of a deal since I only ever ended up using them once and even then it was by accident
Ø  Donald still heals you at the wrong time more often than not
Ø  Even on Proud Mode the game is way too easy for the most part (Apparently Critical Mode addresses this but I can't confirm that)
Ø  There is a lack of sidequests and post-game content that contributes to the feeling Square & Disney gave us half a game (For example, there is only one secret boss, said secret boss has a generic design, no ties to the story, and can be defeated at LV40 on your first attempt)
Ø  Hollow Bastion, Mysterious Tower, and Destiny Islands are not playable
Ø  The parkour from 3D has been nerfed too much in terms of distance to actually be useful
Story Cons:
Ø  Nomura fridged Kairi and he worfed almost everyone the first time you arrive at the Keyblade Graveyard!
Ø  The wrapping up of plot points and character arcs from prior entries was a little too nice and neat for me
Ø  The out-of-nowhere introduction of Subject X
Ø  Pete and Maleficent do literally nothing the whole damn game
Ø  The pacing is awful:
Almost all of the game's resolution is held back until after you've beaten the last Disney world
Ø  There are two important cutscenes in the Final World that you can accidentally miss because for some reason they are optional
Ø  We don't get to see what happened to Lingering Will, which also means we don't get any more insight into the third aspect of being (AKA the soul)
Ø  There are no Final Fantasy characters in the game, not even Sephiroth!
Ø  What happened to Demyx?
Ø  Master Eraqus has absolutely nothing to do with Terra’s restoration
Changes I’d make:
Ø  Require us to go through the Disney worlds a second time like in KH2
Ø  Have Aqua and Ven be saved halfway through the game instead of at the end, they could then spend the second half of the game resting or join you on one of the Disney worlds to refresh themselves
Ø  Have Lea and Kairi join you on one of the Disney worlds to get practical experience
Ø  Make the Keyblade Graveyard sequence be a series of one/two/three-on one battles so that members of Organization XIII can use their full arsenal of attacks from previous games
Ø  Let us play the second battle between Lingering Will and Terra-Xehanort
Ø  Speaking of Terra-Xehanort, we should have fought him alongside the Guardian Heartless
Ø  Have us explore Scala Ad Caelum while hunting down the individual replicas before then making us fight all of them in a boss battle
DLC
Ø  The presence of it says a lot about the game and not in a good way
Final Score
Ø  7/10-8/10

[ID: three images of a digital drawing of kingdom hearts character, luxord. the background is light lavender.
in the first image, he is shown from the knee up in his organization 13 coat, leaning back on his throne in Where Nothing Gathers. an arm is propped up on the armrest, with the hand curled under his chin, and the other rests on top of a crossed knee. over his face, except his eyes, is dark static. Some of the outer edges of his body are highlighted with bright primary colors.
the second and third images are close-ups, one with the dark static and primary color highlights, and the other, without. /End ID.]

ULTIMATE SHIP MEME!  Send in two (or more) names and I’ll fill all this out about the ship! Xaldin/ Luxord  General:
Rate the Ship -   Awful | Ew | No pics pls | I’m not comfortable | Alright | I like it! | Got Pics? | Let’s do it! | Why is this not getting more attention?! | The OTP to rule all other OTPs
How long will they last? They’re married
How quickly did/will they fall in love? VERY SLOWLY. Their romance is a slow ass burn, like a well done steak
How was their first kiss? Tender. Luxord betted on it during one of their many private games, only he didn’t dare to follow through with it when he won. Later during one of their discussions on their respective philosophies, they kiss. And Xaldin’s the one that instigated it.
Wedding:
Who proposed? Luxord kind of did first by giving Xaldin a protection ring during their Org days (based on this hc i have about KH’s social customs), but Xaldin/Dilan made it an official thing later.
Who is the best man/men? Ael, Braig & Axel (he's there ‘cause i think he and Luxord got along fairly well)
Who is the best maid(s)? N/A (Nomura, give me more ladies to work with)
Who did the most planning? Luxord took care of most of the planning
Who stressed the most? Both
How fancy was the ceremony? -  Back of a pickup truck | 2 | 3 | 4 | Normal Church Wedding | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Kate and William wish they were this big. Very small and discrete, only close friends and family.
Who was specifically not invited to the wedding? Ansem the Wise
Sex:
Who is on top? Xaldin
Who is the one to instigate things? Almost always Luxord.
How healthy is their sex life? -  Barely touch themselves let alone each other | 2 | 3 | 4 | Once a couple weeks, nothing overboard | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | They are humping each other on the couch right now
How kinky are they? -  Straight missionary with the lights off | 2 | 3 | 4 | Might try some butt stuff and toys | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Don’t go into the sex dungeon without a horse’s head
How long do they normally last?
Do they make sure each person gets an equal amount of orgasms? YES
How rough are they in bed? -  Softer than a butterfly on the back of a bunny | 2 | 3 | 4 | The bed’s shaking and squeaking every time | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Their dirty talk is so vulgar it’d make Dwayne Johnson blush. Also, the wall’s so weak it could collapse the next time they do it.
How much cuddling/snuggling do they do? -  No touching after sex | 2 | 3 | 4 | A little spooning at night, or on the couch, but not in public | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | They snuggle and kiss more often than a teen couple on their fifth date to a pillow factory. They’re both very cuddly & needy, only difference is one is more ‘open’ about it (Luxord). But never in public, tho they will hold hands and such.
Children:
How many children will they have naturally? -
How many children will they adopt? They’ll probs wait for a bit, but if Lea and Isa dont have them: Roxas and Xion.
Who gets stuck with the most diapers? Neither
Who is the stricter parent? It depends, but mostly Xaldin
Who stops the kid(s) from doing dangerous stunts after school? Xaldin
Who remembers to pack the lunch(es)? Both, but mostly xaldin as the designated cook of the house
Who is the more loved parent? Both
Who is more likely to attend the PTA meetings? Neither
Who cried the most at graduation? Xaldin would be a little teary eyed
Who is more likely to bail the child(ren) out of trouble with the law? LUXORD
Cooking:
Who does the most cooking? Xaldin
Who is the most picky in their food choice? Xaldin
Who does the grocery shopping? Both
How often do they bake desserts? Weekends and Fridays, they both have a sweet tooth
Are they more of a meat lover or a salad eater? In-between
Who is more likely to surprise the other(s) with an anniversary dinner? Luxord
Who is more likely to suggest going out? Both, they’re both outdoor people
Who is more likely to burn the house down accidentally while cooking? Neither
Chores:
Who cleans the room? Both, but mostly Xaldin
Who is really against chores? Luxord understands its a necessary evil
Who cleans up after the pets? Both
Who is more likely to sweep everything under the rug? Luxord, if he’s feeling lazy
Who stresses the most when guests are coming over? Neither

Who takes the longer showers/baths? Neither
Who takes the dog out for a walk? Both
How often do they decorate the room/house for the holidays? always
What are their goals for the relationship? they don’t have a set goal, they deal with things as they go
Who is most likely to sleep till noon? Luxord, if he had a rough day of work
Who plays the most pranks? Luxord, but Xaldin is fully capable of paying him back in kind

other kh oldfic things:
riku or vanitas playing the piano because theyre BAD BOYS but with class
axel works in a tattoo shop like, in every single au ever
he also smokes constantly
or is a literal actual pyromaniac, for some reason
for some reason there was also like, a ton of rokunami fics where roxas was a punkass jerk and namine was a by the books loner and they’d have this like hatemance where they annoyed each other a lot
people pretending axel is a teenager
people pretending larxene, marluxia, demyx, and saix are also teenagers
zexion too but thats more passable i guess? ??? hes like 20-22 or something
drunk luxord
normal aus where paopus are either still a thing or like metaphorically a thing (friendship bracelets or w/e)
aus where aqua is somehow the mother of kairi, xion, and namine who are somehow triplets
speaking of remember when everyone thought terra was going to canonically be sora’s dad
REALLY angsty songfics that were basically just linkin park lyrics set to roxas’s last thoughts while fading away, or whatever, with little actually happening other than internal dialogue descriptions
those fics where kairi is just a bitch for like no reason. you know the ones
this is a general rule but even in canon kh fics literally nobody ever mentions the disney characters, ever, at all
the sheer amount of spin the bottle fics out there honestly
angry roxas. and i mean ANGRY roxas he literally was in therapy in 9 out of 10 fics back then like you were more likely to find a roxas fic with anger issues than NOT
like really riku was usually portrayed as this suave gentleman bishounen sadboy but roxas was the fandom’s TORMENTED SOUL he was ANGUISHED
those chatfics that would somehow end up being storydriven with sora unlocking new forms and beating new dangerous villains  and all these other intensive original concepts being presented in. chatfic form.
vexen being the creepy science teacher in every possible scenario
shoutout to the repliku fics where hes just rikus twin he suddenly has with a slightly different name that is very obviously not a normal person’s name
marluxia/vexen used to be one of the frontrunner organization ships and it was ALL hatefucking ALL the time and i am just so glad that is over jesus christ that ship was everywhere and it VANISHED

Top ten KH3 moments?
***SPOILERS AHEAD! SPOILERS AHEAD! SPOILERS AHEAD! DON’T READ UNLESS YOU’VE EXPERIENCED THE WHOLE GAME OR YOU DON’T GIVE A DANG ABOUT SPOILERS!***
Confession: in trying to come up with my answer for this post, I came up with THIRTY. I’ll just put the ten here, but if anyone wants to ask about those other twenty, feel free :-D
10. The reveal of who Luxu really was the whole time. It tied together a lot of things that made sense and it set up EXACTLY THE CHARACTER IT NEEDED TO to take up the villain helm in place of Xehanort. I’m actually going to skirt saying this name, even though I warned for spoilers, because this reveal is just SO good. And a lot of the endgame made me feel sour and numb due to THE HORRIBLY TRAUMATIZING DEATH OF KAIRI, but this scene picked me almost all the way back up to normal again.
9. When Xemnas assembles Demyx, Larxene, Marluxia, and Luxord at the Keyblade Graveyard and it’s NONSTOP BANTER. Larxene firing off the most hilarious insults at Demyx (a CEREAL BOWL), Demyx openly admitting that he’s not imposing on purpose, Larxene trying to get Marluxia to start another coup, Luxord listening in the whole time and not letting on until his name is called, Luxord fiddling with the cards and making gambling metaphors, Demyx playing his sitar the whole time…and let us not forget the line that embodies a Big Mood: “Ugh. Xemnas.”
8. When Sora reunited with Hades. It was less “MY MORTAL NEMESIS WHO MUST BE STOPPED” and more “Oh, my weird friend of opposing morality who I don’t really like but have to say hi to.” Their reactions to each other were so hilariously casual. Then Hades introduced the Titans in the most EPIC way…only to realize he sent Sora EXACTLY WHERE HE SHOULDN’T GO and deciding this was fine. Also, bonus points for Sora later calling him “the H-ster.”
7. When the Demon Tornado (my personal name for the GIANT CYCLONE OF SHADOW HEARTLESS; canon will probably prove this wrong later) is about to wipe out everyone, but Ephemer helps Sora summon ALL THE KEYBLADES OF THE DEAD WIELDERS OF THE KEYBLADE WAR IN ORDER TO PULVERIZE IT. There’s so much going on there: the epicness of using a hundred Keyblades at once, the beautifully victorious arrangement of “Dearly Beloved,” the shout-outs to the player names in the commands, and, perhaps most of all, the realization after the fact that these blades were all of people who died killing each other for petty reasons…and after death, their spirits realized it was time to set aside their differences and focus on not letting Xehanort win.
6. Battling Davy Jones and the Kraken at the same time. The Kraken is one of the two Disney boss battle fights I have wanted for a DECADE (the other was Randall Boggs; you had your chance and you BLEW IT). I actually was half-disappointed with the naval battle portion because I had imagined it should be melee, but then Davy Jones turned out to be the first true Disney villain boss fight that wasn’t transformed into a Heartless or somesuch, and I’d been thirsty for content of him since arriving in that world. But then it turned out THE KRAKEN WAS WAITING IN THE WINGS TO ASSIST HIM and I actually DID get to fight it melee and it was just the PERFECT way to close out PotC’s role in KH.
5. Fighting Ansem, Seeker of Darkness; Xemnas; and Young Xehanort at the same time. First of all, BEST BOSS THEME IN THE ENTIRE GAME. It was the perfect culmination of putting all the Xehanort themes into one piece that flowed and made sense. Second, the sheer epicness of this CONCEPT. Third, the coordinated triple attack they make where Young Xehanort freezes Sora, Xemnas shoots him with the vines, and Ansem lets the lasers fly.
4. Even and Demyx’s one interaction. While I still don’t think Vexen/Even is hero material, the one thing that made that redemption worth it was this. Seeing these two diametrically opposing personalities, who you think would hate each other, play off each other perfectly. They’re just the right amount of annoyed with each other to be hilarious, and then there’s obviously some genuine respect passed between this odd couple. I will never be over how they have to shush each other in succession.
3. Ienzo’s intro to the plot, though this is kind of in two parts - I’m counting his initial reveal as Sora’s guide with his almost immediate return to help with tech stuff when Pence logs into the computer. Ienzo is just such a CINNAMON ROLL. He just wants friends now, he’s a total ambivert, he keeps slipping into jargon before realizing he’s the only one in the room who knows what he’s saying and reverting to layperson’s terms without being condescending, he flinches at sudden loud noises, he has a cute smile and a nervous laugh…oh. Oh, no. JCMorrigan has a crush.
2. When Vanitas is on the cusp of wrecking Sora on the Laughfloor…and Sulley intervenes by picking him up and YEETING HIM into a door. Oh, but not just that. Taking that door and THROWING IT INTO ANOTHER DOOR, THEN INTO ANOTHER DOOR, THEN INTO ANOTHER DOOR AND SHREDDING THAT ONE. I could NOT stop howling with laughter through this whole sequence. And about four hours later, it hit me that Vanitas could just Corridor out of wherever he got thrown, so Sulley basically did all that for nothing, AND NOW IT’S EVEN MORE HILARIOUS. BONUS POINTS STILL IF YOU THINK ABOUT THE KIDS’ ROOMS WHO EITHER HAD A DOOR FLUNG INTO THEM OR VANITAS HIMSELF. Also, can we appreciate how Sulley somehow knew after five minutes that Vanitas was THAT much worse than Randall that he’d need this treatment?
1. Randall Boggs hijacking the Monsters, Inc. factory. Randall is a legacy favorite villain of mine. He was a big part of my late childhood/young adolescence, and I was CRAZY over him. Over time, I’ve found he still holds up. I could gush about how KHIII’s additions to his entire characterization pretty much renewed my love for him afresh, but let’s focus on his finest hour. Normally, the designated villain of a KH world just peaces out and waits for you to find them at the boss location. Randall, instead, turns the entire factory into death traps and TAUNTS HIS QUARRY OVER THE PA SYSTEM GLADOS-STYLE. Not only that, but he makes TERRIBLE puns (”This one’s got some spark in him!” during the electric fence, “I’ve decided to ramp up the difficulty” as Sora climbs an upward-headed conveyor) and he easily slides from Large and in Charge (”Enjoy what’s left of your miserable little lives!”) to realizing he’s getting humiliated and trying to cover (”You get one freebie, but that’s it.”). KHIII did Randall so good I can’t even.

here it is folks. my kh3 review/rant/thing
im gonna disclaimer and say that i try my damnest not to compare games to another, but in this case I am (at least SE made titles) because for as cool KH3 was I felt it took a few steps back.
First off, I enjoyed the game. It is not my favorite game for miles, and not my favorite KH game (Re:CoM), but I had fun with it.
The environments were amazing, I had fun looking through them and just taking in the scenery. I had some fears of KH3′s models looking weird but they did a pretty good job (sometimes it does look like clay though). The enemy designs were clever, and I love how the Nobodies look weird. Though the Unverse were not too good design wise. Bosses were ok,. However the ending boss fights was.. underwhelming.
I understand expectations tend to be different than what is given, but in this case my expectations for the boss fight was shattered then stepped on. Should have I expected each Organization member to have a cool transformation sequence? No, but for characters like Xemnas? Ansem? YX? Marluxia? Maybe. For Xehanort himself? Yes, I think I am just to think so. And I think Xehanort’s boss fight was underwhelming and frankly I was very disappointed in it. In fact, I thought we were going to have four forms, one the multiple armor battle (which I thought was cool), the normal armor battle, then Xehanort turns into some dragon or whatever, then a good on head to head battle. Well. No turning into some monster. Ok, thats fine, as long as his ending battle has some cool movesets and stuff you have to get out of based on all the Org13 members that would be coo- oh I’ll just go rage form I guess. It wasn’t hard. It wasn’t even that fun. I think I tuned out as soon as I went to the underwater section. Keep in mind, I went into this thinking that Nomura was going to crash my PS4 with the amount of big he was going to make Xehanort. I mean, Ansem turned into a ship, Xemnas turned into a LITERAL DRAGON which you fight THEN you fight his armor formed merged with the dragon AND you run to him getting buildings tossed to you AND you-- well you get the point. On a purely gameplay point? Come on. Even Marluxia had a cooler boss. I mean, even BBS had a bigger build up to Xehanort which was literally fighting Xehanort THEN YOURSELF??? IN TERRA’S STORY?? but KH3 just.. was that.  i guess.
Which brings to... HOOO the story. A few parts they did good. Those parts? Sea salt Trio. Thats IT. FUCK wayfinder trio, FUCK the organization, FUCK everything. There was NO build up to the new organization. I was expecting to fight them in these worlds, as you do in KH2 to build up the hype and make you think WOW these guys mean something! but instead we are all thrown a boss rush and for PLOT reasons I GUESS but at the same time it felt so.. bland. There were no stakes! You fight Vanitas ONCE and then he goes “ok im out” to fight later. Which would have been a cool build up if they did that with the other members but instead we see them once? They say something weird? Ok bye??? I’ll fight your Nobodies now???? I guess I’m racing Luxord now??? eeehhhhhhhhhh??? Overall the story felt so disjointed. I mean in KH1 it made sense you tried to protect the princesses of light, they came back later for the story. It made sense you went and beat up the Org in KH2, they were trying to bring people to darkness. But in KH3 it felt like they were just there to be there? Ok we are getting the power of waking OH it doesn’t matter anymore I’m just going to go to the realm of darkness anyway. And yes, I know that disney worlds tend not to be the biggest points in the series but in BBS? Hell I never would have thought to ship Cinderella/Aqua but you know what Nomura did it. And he did it Well. There was no build up to the final boss, there was nothing that connected everyone together, it felt like everything was there to be there. What happened to Demyx? What about that data twilight town? Some things were NEVER brought up ever again! If you’re not going to bring it up or have an overall meaning to the story then DON’T PUT IT IN YOUR STORY. I feel like if they just cut out explaining a bunch of stuff that was already established in past games then the game would have been better. And, yes its FF14 YES I KNOW, but FF14 does a better job in explaining past events that happen via just mention or actual dramatic sequences that has bearing with the plot.
Characters? Vexen had the most character development in that entire game. Hands down. I mean, I really don’t know what else to say. I felt like Sora took a few back in what was already established in previous games. I mean, you go from Sora screaming and yelling at Xemnas for lying to Org13 for lying to them about having no hearts then you turn around and call Marluxia a has-been? We spent an entire game, the entire KH2, talking about how Nobodies just wanted their hearts back, how they wanted to be whole, how they wanted to BE SOMEONE, you slam that nail in the coffin shut with DDD, then you make Sora turn around and say “well you work for xehanort even though you probably are being forced haha!!” YIKES! It kind of made their deaths a little disjointed? You go from Sora not caring or even trying to reach out to these Nobodies to ‘so those emotions huh?’ I’m not even going to get into Kairi being just a damsel in distress, or Namine coming in for .2 seconds at the end.. but man... you done did it.
Gameplay? uhhh hhhgeeeh ghgughghghgg. it was fun? I felt overwhelmed with all the stuff happening though. You put everything from previous games into one and... it worked out but it didn’t? I don’t know. I think its fun but it wasn’t hard. There was no real tactics in it. It really became a press X to win game. Ariel Recovery and defend are busted which makes me REALLY salty but hhh . Overall it was ok, I think KH1 still is the best with battle mechanics, but that’s just me (please bring Goofy’s old stats I’m begging you SE).
Can I say I’m happy with some of the plot? Sure. I guess. I’m glad Xemnas had his moment. I’m glad Marluxia had his. Same with RepliRiku. I’m happy marlar became canon bay bee. But uh, as far as Vanitas goes? mmmmmmmm yeah.... not... really. As far as Xehanort being a good guy all along? I can’t really say what I feel about that. I’m conflicted. If nomura was going for that, good on him.
overall? 7/10, maybe 6.5/10. Not my game of the year but hey, it was fun.
