Just Friends
Eep sorry this chapter is soo late!! I was superrr busy today. Anywho, I hope you like this chapter! Not sure if I’ve ever written post-reveal pre-relationsip for Ladrien before but boy oh boy it sure was fun hehehe.
AO3
It was official.
Adrien Agreste was melting. Honestly, it was a wonder that it had happened before. Especially now that he knew that the two people that he had completely and utterly fallen for were one and the same.
Marinette was Ladybug and honestly finding that out had been the happiest day of his life. Nothing would ever... could ever compare.
It had been an accident at the time. He had dove into the locker room and mere seconds later had transformed back into Adrien. Giving Plagg his cheese to give him time to recuperate after the akuma attack, he was about to duck out when someone else crashed into the room.
Ladybug’s wide eyes greeted him mere seconds before pink light enveloped her. Adrien didn’t even have time to think about closing his eyes before she detransformed into Marinette.
His heart was racing as he gaped at her. Because wow. Suddenly everything made so much more sense now. Why he had gotten tingles for the brief second Marinette had kissed him at the Grévin Museum. Why he always wanted to be near her. Why his heart pounded whenever she giggled or laughed or even smiled at something he said.
How had it taken him so long to notice?
Whilst Adrien was still experiencing the high of euphoria, though, he noticed that Marinette’s breaths were coming shorter and shorter. She was panicked. Completely and utterly terrified. He had to say something. Had to reassure her that everything was going to be alright.
Clearing his throat, he took a cautious step toward her. “Marinette, are you okay?”
She shook her head, clenching her eyes tightly shut. Adrien took another step towards her, noticing Tikki glancing between the two nervously. Slowly, he reached out, touching her hand softly. When she didn’t pull back, he took it and gave a quick squeeze.
“It’s going to be alright, Marinette. We’ll get through this... together. Just like we always have. You and me against the world, remember?”
Her eyes slowly peered open, confusion swirling in them. He simply grinned at her until recognition mixed with uncertainty in her expression. “Ch-Chat?”
Intertwining their fingers, his grin got even larger. “Hey, bugaboo.”
In the next second, Adrien got an armful of Marinette as she threw herself at him. She wrapped her arms around his neck, burying her head in his shoulder. This must be what heaven was like because he couldn’t imagine anything sweeter. Closing his eyes, he hugged her back, inhaling the wonderful aroma of vanilla and strawberries.
Adrien could have stayed just like that. With Marinette cuddled tightly to his chest and his nose buried in the scent of her hair, he could have stayed there for an eternity.
The sound of the bell was a brutal reminder of why they even had the opportunity of revealing their identities. It was time for class which unfortunately meant he’d have to part from her arms.
Reluctantly, he pulled back, already mourning the feel of her warm arms around him. Marinette’s eyes simply sparkled as she grinned up at him.
“Later,” she murmured. “We’ll talk later.”
Talk later they did. In fact, it was difficult to get them to stop talking now. They grew even closer because of the reveal, sending each other secret looks and smiles during class.
Some days Adrien snuck over to her house as Chat Noir and other days Marinette snuck over as Ladybug.
They were at his house at the moment. They were stretched out across his white sofa. His head was in Ladybug’s lap as something played on TV. He wasn’t paying attention though. The only thing Adrien was listening for were her soft breaths and chuckles at the show. Every so often, she’d swipe a hand over his hair causing his eyes to flutter shut.
He loved her. Every single giggle set his heart aflutter. He was practically bursting at the seams to tell her. To declare just how overjoyed he was about the fact that he had fallen in love with her twice.
But Adrien couldn’t... not anymore. Not now that it had the potential to ruin any closeness that they had garnered.
No. They were just friends. And that’s all they’d ever be.
Honestly, though, that’s all he needed. Ladybug was amazing and he’d rather have her in his life than not at all.
Adrien couldn’t stop himself from shuddering at the thought. Yep. Friendship was just fine for him. Besides, he already knew that she was in love with someone else.
A thought caused a furrow to form between his brows. He peered up at Ladybug some of the curiosity fading as he saw her bright smile. It wasn’t enough to keep him from asking the question though. “Is the guy you’re in love with and Buttercup the same person?”
Adrien watched as Ladybug slowly tensed. Her shoulders stiffened as she glanced down at him. Her blue eyes were wide, filled with... fear? Just as soon as he saw the emotion, though, she flicked her gaze away. “Where did that thought come from?” She chuckled almost nervously, waving a gloved hand in the air.
He shrugged, shifting slightly in her lap as he tried to push down the bitterness. It was almost definitely the same person.
“Just curious is all.”
“Oh, um well...,” Ladybug trailed off before looking back down at him. Her eyes were soft. Softer than he had ever seen them before. “Yes, yes, he is,” she whispered.
There was something loving about her tone and this time Adrien couldn’t clamp down on the wave of jealousy. Her declaration had been beautiful. Whoever it was was so lucky, and he didn’t even know.
Adrien crossed his arms, scoffing quietly. This time it was Ladybug’s turn to frown and how was it possible for her to do that and still look so adorable? That little wrinkle in her mask was so cute. It was hard for him to remain jealous.
“I-Is something wrong, Adrien?” she asked, sounding worried again.
Immediately, he blinked, shaking his head. He couldn’t let her feel bad! Not for his own sour feelings.
“No, not at all! I was just thinking.”
“Thinking about what?” Ladybug murmured, brushing some of his hair away from his face.
Don’t do it! Don’t do it!
Adrien’s thoughts begged him to stop but he couldn’t stop himself from blurting out, “I just think it’s kind of stupid.”
Her lips parted and she looked astounded and a little bit hurt. Quickly, he rushed to clarify, “I-I mean because of how oblivious this guy is! Obviously not because of you. You’re amazing. I’m just mad that he doesn’t reciprocate your feelings!”
The hurt left Ladybug’s face, leaving traces of what seemed to be amusement glimmering in her sapphire eyes. But why was she amused?
“I’m not so sure he even knows.” She giggled softly.
Adrien frowned. Surely Ladybug should’ve been upset by this notion but instead, it seemed like her amusement simply grew. A hint of mischief teased across her smile as it grew.
Either way, he sat up, gesturing wildly as he scoffed again. “Well, then that’s even more ridiculous! If it were me you lo—”
He clamped his mouth shut. Ladybug’s eyes had widened to the point of saucers. He was sure his own mirrored hers. What had he been thinking? Now he was going to get rejected again.
And what if—now that she knew—she left? What if she decided that she was done with their meet-ups and silly talks and glances at school and left him? Adrien bit down sharply on the tip of his tongue, ignoring the pain. He was doomed. All because he couldn’t keep his jealousy to himself.
“Y-you’d what?” she whispered, her voice sounding choked.
He clenched his eyes shut. How could he fix this? Chuckling nervously, he scratched the back of his neck as he tried to brush off his slip-up. “Can’t we just forget it? I shouldn’t have even brought it up in the first place.”
“Adrien.” The word sounded so important—so vastly important that he simply had to turn his head to hers, connecting their gazes. Ladybug’s eyes were so intense that he found himself holding his breath. “P-please... what would you do?”
He was drawn to her. To the hope in her voice and the something that was flickering across her face. Slowly, ever so slowly, he scooted closer to her. He had to try.
“I’d... I’d,” Adrien trailed off, biting his lip as worry overwhelmed him. He glanced down as nerves churned in his stomach. What if he was wrong and the hope was actually panic? Before he could spiral any further, though, a hand gently rested on top of his.
Blinking back up at her, he saw the soft, sweet smile on Ladybug’s lips. She nodded her head as if to say it was okay and that was all the reassurance he needed.
“I’d tell you that when I first heard that beautiful confession to Buttercup at the end of our trip to the movies I was suddenly struck by two different emotions. Awe and envy.”
Ladybug tilted her head in confusion. “Envy?”
He nodded, his heart pounding. “It was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard, Ladybug. And, at the time, I was confused by the sudden pain in my chest I got just from knowing that confession was for someone else.”
She gasped. “Even then?”
“Even then.”
All at once, he was wrapped around Ladybug as she threw herself at him. Her lips found his in a desperate kiss. It took a great deal of effort, but Adrien had to know the truth.
Just barely managing to pull himself away from her, his eyes flicked between hers, searching for any sign that she was lying to him. “A-are you serious? Buttercup’s me?”
“Always has been.” A wobbly smile was on her face as she sniffled.
Adrien felt dizzy, struck by the fact that he was the idiot the whole time. Even still, that didn’t stop him from being the one to surge forward this time as he connected their lips once more.
How could he ever have been content with just being friends? Ladybug’s lips were sweeter than he had ever dreamed them to be. He could spend the rest of his life kissing her. And, suddenly, he fully planned on doing that. Was marriage too soon to propose while they were still in school?
He’d ask her later. Right now, he was too busy nibbling on the bottom of her lip as she moved even closer to him. There’d be time for serious discussions later. Right now, Adrien just wanted to kiss his future wife.

Free to Be You and Me: chapter 1
Rating: T
Summary: “I told you. You’re special. I just can’t stay away.” Ladybug groans and ducks her head. “That probably sounds really silly.”
“Not at all! I’m just glad you came back. Really glad. I was worried you wouldn’t.”
“I can’t stay away,” Ladybug repeats. “There’s something about you that won’t let me, especially after you talked me down today. I’ll just have to be extra careful that Shadowmoth doesn’t find out I’m here. Especially after…you know…the whole Miracle Queen thing.”
Where Ladybug is the one to visit her prince in his tower after the events of 'Ladybug' and things go from there.
Pairings: Ladrien, DjWiFi, background Julerose, hints of Alyanette best friend crushes (as you do), brief S3 finale/S4 start relationships

Chapter 2
Disclaimer: I don’t own ML.
PART ONE
It’s the SMASH that jolts Adrien out of the funk brought on by the brunette demon he’s cornered himself into dealing with. And it’s the bright scarlet of both his wildly beating heart and the angelic guardian of Paris – the very antithesis to the demon gripping his arm even when she’s not there – that leaves him rooted to the spot, unable to even filter a single thought through the brain sending smoke pouring out of his ears.
Okay. This is either an akuma or an incredibly vivid dream. There’s just no way that the spotted superhero of Adrien Agreste’s dreams is plastered across the window like a mirage, cheek smushed against the wet glass and a mix of otherworldly terror and resignation in her wide blue eyes.
‘Ladybug?’ he mouths. Ladybug’s face twitches and she frantically throws her yo-yo above her; whether to zip away or just anchor herself so that she doesn’t slide down the window, Adrien’s not sure. But he’s not going to take the chance that it’s the former. Before she can flee, Adrien rushes over and opens the window beneath her, then leans out far enough that he can look up at her through the open glass pane.
“Ladybug!” Adrien exclaims. Ladybug pastes on a smile and waves, as though slamming into people’s windows and almost losing her teeth is something that she just casually does every day. It makes her so much more human, more accessible, within reach, and Adrien loves her just that much more for it.
“Hidrien!” Ladybug blurts out. “I mean – Adrien! Hi! Um…nice weather?”
Adrien can’t hold back the laugh that bubbles out of him at her antics. “I’ve always liked the rain,” he says. “Um…is there an akuma?”
There shouldn’t be. Hawkmoth and Mayura should be laying low for at least a couple of days now, between the almost-Scarletmoth round two after Lila had pulled her “getting Marinette expelled” stunt and then the Mayura Bugette thing (and yeah, Adrien wasn’t going to linger on that, not unless he wanted to end up drowning in emotions because how dare Mayura get to decide that a living, breathing person should just be snapped out of existence? For choosing to make her own decisions instead of being a puppet?). But if there is – and, just Adrien’s luck, it’s probably Lila and she’s after him for some reason – then he’s most certainly glad that Ladybug got to him first. After all, Volpina may have only dangled an illusion of him off the Eiffel Tower, but Adrien doesn’t want to even imagine if she still would’ve done it with the real him.
“No! No!” Ladybug says, yanking him from his spiralling thoughts. “I just…wanted to get out for a bit. It’s been a rough day.”
Adrien winces. “I feel that. Oh! Uh, do you want to come in? You know, so I’m not talking up at you in the rain? But I don’t mind! I like it when you talk down to me.” His eyes widen. “I mean –”
“Wow, it sounds like it,” Ladybug giggles. Adrien feverishly prays for the ground to swallow him up whole, or at least for another round of Oblivio to make her forget what he’d just said.
“I’m sorry.” He covers his face with his hands. “I don’t know why I said that.”
I don’t mind,” Ladybug says. “I always say dumb things when my brain and mouth don’t want to work. Can I still come in…?”
“Oh! Of course!” Adrien steps back from the window, giving Ladybug the space to lower herself down with her yo-yo and then swing her legs through the opening. Adrien holds out a hand to help her down, which Ladybug takes even though they both know full well that she doesn’t actually need the help, and she giggles again and looks away with a face almost as scarlet as her suit when he kisses the back of her hand before he lets it go.
Why did he do that. Why. Did he do that.
“I’ve always liked your room,” Ladybug says, peering around. Adrien perks up at the chance to shove this interaction away from his own stupidity.
“Really?” he beams. “I didn’t know it made such an impression on you.”
“Huh?” Ladybug blinks. Oh. She’s probably been in so many bedrooms – except that that doesn’t make sense with what she’d literally just said. Sometimes, Adrien doesn’t understand this girl.
“Jackady, remember?” he says. “And Collector – uh, from what my father said, I wasn’t actually here when you and I – uh, Chat Noir fought him! And the time you brought me that gift from my fans in Brazil!”
“Oh! Right! Yes! Definitely those three times!” says Ladybug. Adrien wants to ask why those words made the colour drain from her face but, well, with how spooked she suddenly looks, he doesn’t want to do anything to scare her off. Does she have something against Brazilians or something? But if she did, why would she deliver a gift for them? How truly beautiful she is, to help people even though she may not like them.
“Um – sit down!” Adrien scrambles to change the subject before things get too awkward between them. “I mean – if you want!”
The pink returns to Ladybug’s cheeks. “Thank you, kind sir,” she teases, and if her voice wavers as she perches on his white couch, they both choose not to mention it. It’s worth it to see that gorgeous smile of hers once again that keeps Adrien company on his loneliest nights, and he doesn’t even need to be able to see Plagg to know that the demonic cat kwami will be giving him a smirking promise of teasing later on.
Plagg! Adrien’s head whips around, before he remembers that Plagg might be irresponsible, but he’s had centuries of hiding from other people and wouldn’t be caught out on this one night. His sudden movement attracts Ladybug’s attention.
“Adrien?” she says. Adrien shakes his head and forces a small grin on his face.
“Nothing. I thought I saw something. I guess I’m just a bit…paranoid since akumas started appearing.”
When those words cause Ladybug’s brow to crinkle, Adrien silently wishes that he could just swipe her earrings and make a wish that he’d never said anything to worry her. Ladybug never crashes into anything unless she’s distracted, so the fact that she’d slammed into his window means that something must be up, and he doesn’t need to burden her with his own issues as well.
“Have you had any trouble with them?” Ladybug says, seemingly oblivious to Adrien’s inner wrestling match. “I know you’d have more cause than most to attract them.” Her eyes widen. “Not that I think you’re weak or anything! You’re strong for not having been akumatised before! I mean, I’ve had a few come for me, so I know it’s not a matter of weakness –”
“You?” Adrien gapes at Ladybug. The idea that Ladybug – brave, amazing Ladybug, who can always take on anything – has been targeted by akumas is just…horrendous. Especially more than once! But then again, at the end of the day, there’s just a human girl under that mask; a human girl who has her own stresses and woes, especially with leading a double life like Adrien does.
At that moment, he realises that he’s just been standing by the window like a clown, so he hurries to shut it and then rushes to sit down next to Ladybug. She giggles when he trips and faceplants on the cushion next to her, with none the grace of his cat alter-ego.
“I know!” she says with a tight little smile when Adrien manages to pick himself up and sit in a semi-civilised manner. If he hadn’t been Chat Noir, her close friend and partner, he might never have picked the false cheer up. But this is his lady, and how can he claim to be her rock and her partner if he can’t read her? “No one would ever think that Ladybug would have to deal with akumatisation. But I just think positive thoughts and remind myself that I’m Ma – uh, me, and that usually gets them to go. There was one close call but, well…” She shakes her head, her dark pigtails swishing around her face. “You don’t need to listen to my drama!”
“I don’t mind! Really!” Adrien babbles. “And, well, I guess I’m just…too used to disappointment to be akumatised. If I got akumatised every time I was down about something, I’d be worse than Mr Pigeon.”
“That’s not a good thing!” Ladybug says fiercely. The fire that had first enthralled Adrien on that fateful day is back as she grabs his hands and squeezes them. “You shouldn’t have to be used to disappointment! You deserve to be happy, Adrien.”
Yeah. Happy. That’s easy when he’s basically sold his soul to Lila to keep Marinette safe and now he has to deal with her clinging to him with her evil smug smile every chance she gets, even outside photoshoots. He’d do it ten times over if it meant saving his best friends, but that doesn’t mean he has to be happy about having to smile and play nice with Lila. Happiness just seems to be one word that doesn’t exist in the world of Adrien Agreste.
“Adrien?” Ladybug says softly, and Adrien realises that he’s been silent for too long. “Is…everything alright?”
“Of course!” Adrien turns on his Chat Noir charm to grin breezily, which would have usually made Ladybug roll her eyes but now makes her blush and look away momentarily. Oops. Maybe he shouldn’t be channelling his alter-ego that much. “Why wouldn’t it be when you’re in my room talking to me?”
Waitnoohno!
“Trice ny,” Ladybug splutters, while Adrien’s soul tries to spontaneously evict itself from his body after such an awful line. That would’ve gotten him thrown off a building as Chat Noir for sure. “I mean – try nice! Nice try! You’ve got the same look that Chat has when he’s trying to act like he’s fine. What’s going on?”
“It doesn’t matter,” Adrien says once he’s finally got a modicum of control over himself. And she’s still holding his hands! The fact that he’s still got even one working brain cell is a miracle. “I know something’s up with you, or you wouldn’t have crashed into my window.”
Ladybug moans and ducks her head. “Can we forget that ever happened? I’m Ladybug. I don’t go crashing into cute boys’ windows.”
Adrien’s soul once again tries to implode on itself. “You think I’m cute?” he says. Ladybug literally screams and catapults herself off the back of the couch with an impressive display of both strength and flexibility. Honestly, she probably couldn’t have pulled it off without her Miraculous.
“Let’s just forget the last five minutes ever happened!” she all but bellows up at him from the floor when he turns to peer over the couch back. Adrien lets out a guffaw, then a small laugh, and then he’s slumped over the back of the couch with tears streaming down his face and laughter clogging his windpipe as it chokes and splutters out of his shaking body. Ladybug just watches from the floor with crossed arms, although the tiny smile on her face betrays her attempt to look like the stern saviour of Paris.
Well, at least Adrien can devolve into a hysterical mess around said saviour without her thinking any less of him. And her refusal to judge him, even with all the dumb stuff he does as Chat Noir, is just another bullet point on the list of why Adrien loves this girl so much.
“Well, I’m glad this is funny to one of us,” she huffs as she finally pushes herself to her feet and vaults over the back of the couch to land next to Adrien with a small whumph. “At least my suffering brings you joy.”
“N-Not suffering,” Adrien forces out. His laughter finally starts to die down, so he hiccups and wipes his streaming eyes with his arm. “Just reminding me you’re human and not some amazing goddess. Starting to think I couldn’t compare.”
“Do lies come from the mouth of Adrien Agreste himself?” Ladybug teases, then jabs a finger at him. “But I’m still amazing, and don’t you forget it.”
“Oh, of course not,” Adrien says around a rogue laugh. Ladybug’s playful smile melts into something softer and kinder.
“Feeling a bit better?” she says. “Did you take enough enjoyment from my clumsiness?”
For the faintest of moments, she sounds vaguely like Marinette after the whole Multimouse identity debacle. “Oh, I’m so clumsy!” But then the moment passes and it’s once again just Ladybug in front of him.
“I’m feeling way better,” Adrien says. “Really. Thank you, Ladybug.”
Ladybug’s smile widens, but then it droops after a moment. “Are you sure you’re alright? I saw how you went quiet after I said you deserved to be happy.”
“I’m fine,” Adrien assures her. “It’s nothing you need to worry about.”
“Well, maybe I want to worry about it.”
“You’ve got your own problems, especially with a secret identity! I don’t want to dump my problems on you as well.”
“Adrien.” Ladybug turns the full force of her hypnotising stare on him, and Adrien is rendered as helpless as a mouse in a snake’s gaze, unable to look away. “I literally have a tiny creature to talk to about superhero and identity stuff whenever I need her. I have good parents I can vaguely catastrophise to and get their advice while they also wonder what kind of teenage crisis I’m going through. I have an amazing best friend who I can talk to at any time without needing to work it into my schedule. I have Chat Noir, my kitty, my other best friend, who’s kept me grounded since day one. I honestly don’t think I could have made it this far without him. Trust me when I say that I’m coping – somewhat – on both sides of the mask. Now, let me help you.”
Blushing furiously at her high praise of his alter-ego, Adrien bites his lip and looks away. On the one hand, accepting help from the most amazing girl around is a dream come true, especially since she doesn’t even know that he’s secretly her partner. Who else could claim to have Ladybug offer to be their confidant? But on the other hand, when Ladybug’s always the one to take charge and shoulder the bulk of the stresses that come with their job, it feels almost selfish to put even more on her. There’s a reason he’s supported Ladybug since day one, after all.
“I wouldn’t offer if I couldn’t handle it,” Ladybug says as though reading his thoughts. Then she gives him a cheeky little smile. “And besides, you’ll probably just spend ten minutes complaining about a hairspray problem. I don’t know what could be so wrong in the life of Adrien Agreste.”
Coming from anyone else, that joke would have fallen flat. But it’s Ladybug, the love of his life and one of the only people who could possibly understand life constantly under the public eye and expectations, so Adrien can’t help but laugh and card a hand through his hair in a move that coincides with Ladybug’s cheeks pinkening.
“I just…okay, well, I can talk about this thing without going into something I shouldn’t, I guess,” he says. “I did something really dumb. You know Marinette, right?”
“Y-Yeah!” Ladybug’s face is still pink. “I do! In passing! What did you do? I’m sure she wouldn’t care!”
“Oh, it wasn’t anything dumb to her,” Adrien says. “But she got expelled from school yesterday because of Lila’s lies. She even almost got akumatised!”
“Oh,” Ladybug mutters. “Her.”
“Exactly!” Adrien says. “That’s why I had to do it! I knew there wasn’t any way to prove that Lila lied, and I knew I was the only one she’d listen to, so…”
“Adrien,” Ladybug says slowly. “What the heck did you do?”
Adrien grins sheepishly. “I may have, uh…made a deal to be her friend if she walked back her lie about Marinette?”
“You what?”

marichat needs to happen okay
hear me out, I'm going to try and articulate my thoughts on marinette x chat noir on this post and I highlight key differences between our lovely character
Marichat is the other aspect of each other that they don't have feelings for and haven't completely known yet. Marinette/Ladybug likes Adrien, Adrien/Chat Noir likes Ladybug. Ladybug and Adrien like each other. In the other three ships, there are feelings involved, and we see how those feelings hold them back from fully being themselves. Meanwhile, whenever Marinette and Chat Noir interact, they share playful banter as well as meaningful moments like the Balcony Scene™. Marinette isn't commanding towards Chat Noir as her civillian self. Meanwhile, Chat is able to show a bit from his sensitive side to her, something he struggles to do as both Chat Noir and Adrien.
I don't like the idea of Adrien falling in love with Marinette because she's Ladybug and Ladybug falling in love with Chat because he's Adrien. They need to be able to accept the other sides of each other. Something Marichat offers that the rest of the ships don't are slowburn feelings that are built on growing understanding and respect for each other. I mean, let's be real, Adrien's crush on Ladybug and Marinette's crush on Adrien happened instantly (not love at first sight, but they still happened pretty quickly).
Individual character growth! Marinette falling for Chat Noir means she'll finally see his worth, more than just her crime fighting partner and more than just in the battle. She seems to forget or not think much about how he has a life outside of being a superhero. Since Chat/Adrien is growing distant from Ladybug, he might lean more onto his friendship with Marinette, who he knows would never let him down. Meanwhile, Chat Noir/Adrien would finally start opening up about himself, how lonely he feels, and how he just wants to feel like he matters. We all know Adrien uses Chat Noir as an escape from his daily life. He thinks it's the real him. If he sees that Marinette understands and sees what he perceives as his "true self", he'll be touched.
Side note on the "true self" thing: I don't think Chat Noir is "the real Adrien", but simply a side of him, a version of him who doesn't care about rules, authority, and does things at his own will. However, it is when he is Chat Noir that he feels most happy, because he has the freedom AND Ladybug is technically his best friend. But that doesn't mean who he is as Adrien is less real than who he is as Chat Noir. In fact, we slowly see him integrating his double life's personality (flirting, teasing, being a jokester) into his civillian life in later seasons.
Adrienette and Ladrien are stuck in the one-sided infatuation phase. Sure, Adrien and Marinette say they're friends, but a lot of their screentime together involves Marinette tripping over her words–sometimes literally tripping–and Adrien getting mixed signals. They do have times where they hang out and start to get comfortable around each other, but they still have a long way to go. Ladrien? I've yet to see them interact outside of fight scenarios (at least Marichat had the quiet Balcony Scene™...before it got interrupted by a new akuma)
Ladynoir, on the other hand, has Chat Noir at first being infatuated with Ladybug. Because they spend so much time together as a crime-fighting duo as well as Paris' superheroes patrol, I believe he's developed far deeper feelings than when he first met her.
In "Desperada", Marinette/Ladybug has double standards when it comes to Chat Noir vs. Adrien making a lame joke and his confusion in whether or not he should be offended or flattered makes it 100x funnier It's mentioned once in an episode which name I forgot that Ladybug does like Chat Noir's jokes, but she just reacts to it in her usual eyeroll because she's...Ladybug.
When Marinette is Ladybug, her personality doesn't change as drastically as Chat Noir's, but she's clearly less of a klutz, it's how she learns to be more confident and stand up for herself. However, she's also much more sarcastic, bossy, and serious, in contrast to Chat's easygoing attitude (except when it's his loved ones are at stake). As Marinette, she's sweeter and softer with the occasional jokes.
Miscommunication is such a prevalent theme in the show that it might as well be the title. Miscommunication: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir. See? It fits! The problem here is that there is miscommunication both internally and externally with these two characters. They're having a hard time reconciling their identities AND openly talking about things to each other. The first time we actually see them talk about sensitive personal matters to each other is the fabled Balcony Scene™. Ladybug and Chat Noir may be close partners, but it's clear she doesn't want to discuss her civillian life with him (as Ladybug, anyway) in order to keep their identities secret (and with her knowledge of Chat Blanc, it's not surprising). Which leads me to...
The Balcony Scene™ and take a shot each time I mentioned this. I love how in contrast that scene is with the rest of the show. There's no action sequences, it's nighttime, it's quiet, and it's a slow moment for our characters. Chat Noir isn't acting like his goofy self, but is openly acknowledging his serious feelings for Ladybug and that he's hurt that she didn't show up. Seeing this side of him lets Marinette understand that all the flirtations were him being serious. However, since she's not Ladybug, there's nothing holding her back from sharing a part of her personal life with him. She already trusts Chat Noir. They lament their respective heartbreaks, and Chat gets an idea to bring her to the place to cheer her up. Not because he liked her, but because he genuinely wanted her to be happy. Chat/Adrien clearly values Marinette as a friend, and he even goes out of his way in "Puppeteer 2" to make her feel at ease around him. Taking Marinette to the rooftop with the candles and roses to cheer her up rather than woo her was a very sweet and rare gesture from him. It was a moment of vulnerability from both sides. AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THESE TWO NEED TO SEE FROM EACH OTHER
The difference between Chat and Ladybug as heroes is that Chat always protects the people first. Ladybug is more focused on solving the problem. Chat puts himself at the civillians' level and takes time to make them feel alright or safe. Even as civillians they exhibit this trait; in "Guiltrip", Marinette sees the problem and immediately tries to find a solution. She thinks of the bigger picture and acts to prevent the worst. Adrien, on the other hand, takes time to approach Juleka and ask her what's wrong, taking time to make her feel comfortable enough to share her problem. Chat Noir being a superhero is just a mantle; he's just your everyday guy who just happens to have superpowers. Ladybug has to be Marinette to even display the same kind of vulnerability she showed to Chat Noir in "Glaciator", because as Ladybug she's too fixated on saving Paris and keeping her identity a secret
Marichat would mean the start of the reverse love square. Marinette either has to start being less fumbly around Adrien or move on. Think about it: Marinette starts to have feelings for Chat Noir, so she's once again conflicted. But if she starts to maybe move on, she'd be less insecure around Adrien and they'd finally share scenes where they talk longer than 1 minute. This will then prompt Adrien to knowing who Marinette really is and notice even more qualities in her that she shares with Ladybug (wEll), qualities he likes and appreciates. So now, Adrien is falling for Marinette and she is falling for Chat Noir, but THIS time, the foundation of their feelings are FRIENDSHIP, UNDERSTANDING, RESPECT AND APPRECIATION rather than infatuation.
that might make The Reveal™ a bit angsty as well, since Adrien/Chat leaning closer to Marinette means sort of distancing himself from Ladybug. At least from Marinette's side, it wouldn't be as shocking. She'd be mortified that she'd been fighting crime with Adrien all along, yes, but it doesn't come with the weight of realizing the person who you thought would never let you down is the same person who pushed you aside in favor of a new partner. The fact that Adrien counts Chat Noir as his true self and lowkey considers those who like him as "Adrien" are shallow (okay this isn't canon but his life as Adrien is basically exploited as a brand which is why he thinks people only like him for being famous) doesn't help. But hey, I'm sure the writers won't mess this potential up. Right? Right?

I've been plotting more of the Simply Ladrien AU/not-so-enemies AU, and uhhh I originally intended for it to be cracky, but now it's kind of angsty??? I'm still not sure how it happened, but like it's all from Adrien's POV, so let me just tell you what I cooked up for Bubbler because I hurt my own feelings.
So, because of differing circumstances in this AU, the umbrella scene doesn't happen after origins. Thus, Marinette still doesn't care for Adrien, at least not for a few chapters. (I moved the umbrella scene to Gamer, but don't worry about it, it makes sense later). Adrien is also not Chat Noir in this AU (yet).
Now, fastforward to Bubbler, Adrien wakes up excited because today is his birthday, and now he feels like he understands his father and is getting to go out into the world and maybe this year he will get to have a party. He has high hopes when Nathalie comes in and informs him that his father would like to see him in his office, but when he meets with his father, Gabriel doesn't even mention his birthday. Instead, he launches straight into the next phase of their plans and requests Adrien's assistance finding someone to akumatize today. Adrien asks about his birthday, and Gabriel is like ah, yes. He retrieves a small gift box, and Adrien excitedly opens it to find it filled with office supplies. Disappointed but not surprised, Adrien thanks him and goes to get ready for the day.
At school, Adrien attempts to talk to Marinette, but she gives him the cold shoulder. Nino implores him to invite Marinette to his bday bash, but Adrien says he isn't having one. Nino is determined to change his dad's mind just like in canon, only this time when he goes to the mansion to ask permission, Gabriel sees him as someone Adrien delivered to be akumatized, so he cruelly rejects him. Adrien is like that wasn't what- nevermind.
So Marinette and Alya show up to the party to *cough cough* eat the fancy party food. (Marinette side eyes Bubbler the whole time) Bubbler encourages Adrien to talk to her, but when he tries, she points out that he's good friends with Chloe, right? Adrien fumbles to explain that they were childhood friends, but honestly they've drifted apart, and he isn't really mixed up with her anymore. Chloe, seeing Marinette talking to Adrien, immediately comes over and barks at her to leave him alone. Marinette is like oh, yeah. You two are totally distant. 🙄
When Bubbler traps Ivan for refusing to dance, Marinette decides it's time for Ladybug to crash the party, but she gets trapped too. Adrien rushes out to try and reason with Bubbler before he can send her up into the sky (afterall they need those earrings). He quietly slips a safety pin from his birthday gift into the bubble before Bubbler pushes him aside and sends Ladybug into the sky with the rest of the adults.
When the other party guests rebel, Bubbler leaves to go get the earrings from Ladybug. Gabriel instructs Adrien via text to ensure Bubbler's victory. Alya is about to leave on her bike to go get footage for her new blog, and Adrien requests to go with because Nino is his friend/maybe he can talk some sense into him. Alya relents, but Adrien has to peddle.
At the Eiffel Tower, Ladybug has just summoned her lucky charm when they arrive. Alya gets bubbled while trying to film, and Ladybug is figuring out her lucky charm. Adrien knows he needs to help Bubbler win, but he's starting to get bummed out by everything ruining his birthday, so when Ladybug unscrews the piping, Adrien holds it in place while she takes down Bubbler.
Ladybug thanks him for his help, and he shrugs and admits he just wanted to have a good birthday. When he returns home, his father is disappointed that they lost again, and Adrien is like yeah, she already had him beat by the time I got there. Huge bummer. He insists that he is tired and leaves to go sit in the garden where he sings happy birthday to himself by his mothers statue.

Top 5 Miraculous episodes. :)
Again, no specific order
Simonsays
Tumblr media
It was my favorite episode during Season 1 and still remains one of my favorite. I just love the tension in this one. And this episode is even more fun to watch after Collector. I still remember the debate Gabriel couldn’t be HM because of that episode. Good times. This episode is always worth a rewatch in my book.
Riposte
En garde. Prêts? Allez!
Tumblr media
This episode made me realized I needed more Ladrien in my life haha! It was also a cool introduction for one of my favorite girls as well!
I love seeing Marinette and Adrien interacting together in this one. And they even duel a few rounds together! That freaking match between Adrien and Kagami was overkill and I love it for that xD I also love how Adrien risks his life as a civilian to protect LB, gets wounded and it later affects him. And that final battle? I get goosebumps when LB and CN repeat the “En garde. Prêts? Allez” at they finally break Riposte’s sword (and it makes a nice little nod to when they were sparing themself as civilians). And the ending that is a bit bitter-sweet. Awww~
And the episode also contains my favorite pun from the show “Maybe he is... clawstrophobic?”
Dark Owl
A civilian trying to be a superhero? Check. Said civilian puts himself more in trouble than helping those around? Check. LB and CN cannot have free time anymore as civilians because of this? Check. The little hommage to Batman? Check. LB and CN exhausted trying to find a way to solve this and regain their social life? Check. Alya being asked to help and wear a cardboard costume? Check (btw this is even funnier if you consider that Sapotis happened before this episode xD).
Honestly, Mr. Damocles was made very sympathic in this episode and you just feel for him when he accidently got exposed. And man, the supervillain he turned into is one of the best. He was very clever and his trap did work.
Tumblr media
And what can I say about this freaking scene?! The trust they have for one another there just make me melt.
It was also a nice twist that Dark Owl’s akumatized object wasn’t on him. And the ending was cute as the Owl found his calling and become popular :)
Oni-Chan
You all know I love Lila as a villain and here I was served! Every scene Lila is in it steal the episode for me. When she sneaks into the Agreste Mansion. When she refused to be helped by LB. When she manage to make an Akumatized who was pursuing her to deal with LB instead. When she trick CN, leading him away and putting LB in a serious disavantage. And what can I say about that ending? Not only Adrien is finally realizing how dangerous Lila can be and that he should keep her at bay. But worse!
Tumblr media
A deal between two demons gets established and when know this is bound to no good and I. LOVE. IT. Haha! This episode is such an important cornerstone of the season!
Also, Oni-Chan herself has also one of my favorite Akumatized design with the mix of the rose and oni theme. And her power was really original as well. It felt like a nice metaphor for cyberharassment and cyberbullying. And the progression of LB discovering how Oni-Chan’s power works and using it against her was well done imo.
Ladybug
I admit, the beginning is a little hard to follow at first because you have to make sense of those flashbacks and ellipses. But it was just one twist after the other. So much was going on. The scheme. The unexpected return of Catalyst and Scarlet Moth. Marinette being akumatized. The plan being aborted midway because Catalyst collapses. Nathalie disobeying Gabriel and going with her own plan to get the Miraculous. Mayura actually creating a sentimonster who is an exact replica of someone (!). Hawkmoth showing up to save Mayura. Adrien sacrificing himself so Marinette can get back to school. (I still have goosebump of their “friendly” discussion. I can’t wait to see more to this!

Ladrien June 20: Soft Touches
Mixing it up a little for day 20 of @ladrienjune with Marinette’s perspective again. I hope you all enjoy! Sorry if the formatting is weird; posting from mobile.
“Adrien!” Marinette managed to say, having cornered him in the library. “You- Letter- I- Ladybug!” She managed to get out, sticking the letter out towards him. Being Ladybug made this so much easier! Maybe Tikki was right, and she should have had Chat deliver the response letter. It would have been way easier, and she wouldn’t risk exposing herself. Wait, had she risked exposing herself?  She ran over what she said, all five words. She had! Oh no, this is bad!
“Ladybug asked you to deliver a letter to me?” Adrien asked, smiling. Oh thank God, he hadn’t put it together  Never had Marinette been more grateful for her crush’s obliviousness. “What do you think it’s about?”
He knows exactly what it’s about, but she can’t exactly call him out… but Ladybug could! “She said you would know exactly what it’s about,” Marinette added, glad for the little bit of bravado.. She decided to push her luck, and added “She also told me to do this.” She patted his cheek twice, and gave the most sly smile she could.
Adrien blushed, “Was the uh- the smile her too,” Marinette tried her best to keep the grin inside, but she had actually made him flustered, “Or do you just like slapping me?”
“Maybe both,” she teased, leaving the library before all the confidence she had in her decided to leave. Marinette walked to the bathroom, and sat down in one of the stalls. “Oh my god Tikki!” she was barely able to get out, “I just did that.”
“Yes, you did,” Tikki said, “Good job Marinette. I’m very proud of you for keeping your composure.” The kwami patted Marinette’s shoulder, nibbling on a macaron.
“Thank you, Tikki,” Marinette let out a final breath of relief. She waited for Tiki to finish the macaron before making her way to class. The day proceeded as normal, at least until toward the end of lunch, when she received a text from Master Fu.
“Marinette, I need you to come by after school; this is very important,” the text read. Marinette had a bad feeling in her stomach; Fu almost NEVER texted. Whatever he wanted; it must be too important for a phone call. Regardless, she couldn’t ditch to visit Fu; it would take too long, and he had specifically told her to come after school. So all that was left was to wait. Nervously. Until the final bell rang.
Marinette was the first out of her seat, rushing out to the street once her final class was finished. She did her best not to run all the way to Fu’s, instead walking as quickly as she could. “Marinette, welcome, please sit down.” Fu gestured to where he already had tea set and waiting.
“Thank you, Mate Fu,” Marinette said, taking her seat and sipping the tea, “May I ask why you called me here?”
“Is tea not very important? I just found a wonderful new blend,” Master Fu trailed off, noticing Marinette’s impatient look. “The tea is so you remain calm. I have discovered Hawkmoth’s identity.”
“What!” Marinette nearly shouted, “Who is it! Why isn’t Chat Noir here! He needs to know too!”
“Chat isn’t here because…” Fu paused for a moment, seemingly searching for the right words. He settled on, “You have a connection to Hawkmoth. You need to be the first to know.”
“Who is it?” Marinette ran through everyone she knew, wondering who Hawkmoth could be.
“You’re dating his son,” Fu tried to say gently, but Marinette was still shocked. “I know this most be frightening-”
“I need to check on Adrien!” She shouted, standing up.
“Be safe, don’t let him know!” Fu shouted after her. She transformed in the alley outside of Fu’s home, before taking to the sky, swinging desperately to the Agreste household. She spotted Adrien inside, sitting in front of his computer. She knocked on his window rapidly, and he turned around. He got up quickly, and opened the window.
“Your letter was,” Adrien was blushing, “very descriptive.” She nearly blushed, sliding into his room to gently touch his arm, dragging her suited fingers along it. She didn’t know what she was checking for, but she hoped Adrien was ok. She placed each of her hands on his cheeks, gently pulling him forward to place a soft kiss on his lips. “Wow,” he muttered. “I didn’t know you were coming bye…”
“I wanted to see you,” she whispered, wrapping her arms around him. She wanted to make sure he was safe, and there was no where she knew he was safer than in her arms. She wanted to tell him, but she couldn’t. She’d have to wait to tell him… She hoped he wouldn’t hate her for what she would have to do.

At Dusk, I Will Think of You
Ladybug comes to Adrien with an important question on Valentine’s Day.
Hiya @pawsomelybuggy, I’m your gifter for the @mlshipfleet discord Valentine’s Day gift exchange and so I wrote a bunch of Ladrien fluff to help celebrate!! I hope you have an absolutely fantastic day!
AO3
--------------------
Ladybug let out a deep sigh for the first time since she’d left her other job and started hummed in thought as she perched on the corner of a rooftop. From her position, she stared down the Agreste Mansion, thinking on her situation and weighing her options.
She’d found herself faced with a bit of a problem. She hadn’t yet seen Adrien today given just how late she’d worked, something that made her almost wish for an Akuma attack, and had spent the last week or two trying to psyche herself up to ask him something important.
She wanted to ask him out.
Not only that, but she knew some holidays were rougher on him than others and she wasn’t quite sure yet if Valentine’s Day was one of them yet. The idea that he may be holed up in his bedroom, alone and distressed on what was meant to be a happy, loving day definitely didn’t sit well with her.
Given just how hard it had been to formulate some sort of sentence that would actually succeed in asking him out that didn’t sound like gibberish, she’d settle for checking on him as her excuse. It would at least buy her time while she figured out how to word her feelings, if nothing else.
But then, maybe it wasn’t the best idea to rush through Paris with the sole purpose of otherwise randomly checking on Adrien Agreste. Maybe showing up at his doorstep unannounced and totally out of the blue would raise a few eyebrows, especially given how busy the city was. It most certainly wasn’t the most rational response she could have had to losing track of time during the workday but still wanting to be with him regardless.
It was times like this she wished she’d gone through with getting a second phone, as simply asking him out through a text message would have probably been easier than this. She’d have to remember to do that whenever she had the chance.
After shaking her head to get back on track and some further deliberation, Ladybug leaped down from her perch and landed on the other side of the Agreste’s gate and took a breath. For as close as they’d become, she’d actually never used the front door to get into his house whenever she came specifically to see him.
Mostly because it’d be difficult to explain to anyone, be them a nosy civilian or a news anchor, why she was there without going into details about their...relationship, whatever it currently was.
It started out as a friendship for sure. A few saves here and there led to conversations and before long, he’d actually outright asked her over for dinner. Much to her own surprise at the time, she managed to accept and ended up having the best pizza she’d ever had. Since then, the two had been drifting ever closer.
What was once the occasional glance in the street during the day had turned into late night visits, which gradually turned into early morning visits. It had even reached the point of outright hand holding, though that usually only happened away from the public eye. The only problem is that she, and likely he, wasn’t sure what they were anymore.
Which is why it was easy to start wondering what his reaction would be once he answered the door. Even as she knocked, she found herself hit with a twinge of concern mixed with fear and her mind began to race. Questions of what he considered them to be jolted through head only to give way to what his reaction to this possibly forward and blunt gesture would be.
Then she wondered if maybe he wouldn’t like that she was using the front door, though that only led to her giving some deep thought to sneaking her way in through his bathroom window.
Her various trains of though screeched to a halt when the doorknob started to jiggle in front of her. Instinctively, she stepped back some just as it opened, placed one hand on her hip and put on her best I totally know what I’m doing face.
“Oh, Ladybug?” Adrien, wearing sweatpants and a shirt that seemed a size or two too big for him, seemed to perk up some after blinking a few times, as if he needed to make sure he was really standing in front of him. “I would have put something nice on if I knew you were coming, but, uh, what’re you doing here?”
“I, um…” Ladybug stalled for a moment, realizing that she hadn’t quite thought of a good reason for her to simply appear. There was an obvious answer, that she was hoping to celebrate the holiday with him, but those words didn’t seem to want to form. “I was just in the neighborhood and since today’s Valentine’s Day, I thought I’d swing in for a bit, maybe see how you were doing and...ask you something.”
The and so I nearly invited myself in through the open window in your bathroom to ask you out on a date and make sure you weren’t sad part didn’t seem to come out.
“Ah, well, thank you.” A subtle blush formed on his cheeks that lit up his otherwise tired expression. “But I’m okay, I think. Would you like to come in?”
“You think?” Ladybug seemed to cock an eyebrow and stepped inside some. “I don’t wanna pry or anything, but if you’re not sure, then...I’m all ears.”
Adrien seemed to give it some thought while he played with the drawstrings of his pants.
“I guess it has been kind of a long day, y’know? Like, I’ve busy with piano practice and classwork and booking flights for modeling stuff and...you probably don’t care about all that.” He gave a halfhearted chuckle, looking away with an equally unconvincing smirk and a hand on the back of his neck.
“No, I…” Ladybug put her hand around his, acting mostly on impulse. “I do care, Adrien. Like I told you, I’m here.”
“I, um,” Adrien swallowed, trying his best not to turn to mush amid the bright shade of red that coated his face. “Right, but, uh, that’s about it honestly. I was actually passed out in the kitchen when you knocked, so.”
“Aw, that’s, erm. I mean, I can always come back if you’re tired, I just thought I’d check in is all.” Ladybug smiled back, feeling a sense of elation and relief in his reassurances.
“Didn’t you have something to ask me?” Adrien spoke while he stretched out.
“Oh, that, well…” It was Ladybug’s turn to blush. The right words weren’t coming to mind, so she needed to stall. “It’s nothing important, really, so I should probably let you sleep.”
“Ah-ah, Bugaboo.” Adrien softly muttered, easing a hand onto her shoulder. “You wouldn’t have come through the front door if it wasn’t at least a little important.”
I knew I should have checked the bathroom window. She cursed herself and then tried her best to get the thought lodged in her mind out.
“I guess I was just thinking that, if you wanted to, maybe we could, y’know,” Ladybug stuttered and stumbled for a moment. “Go for a swing?”
She couldn’t quite think of anything smoother in the moment, so that would have to suffice in the ask him out department.
“So that’s why you’re really here.” Adrien teasingly snickered. “Did you have somewhere in mind?”
“Honestly?” Ladybug decided it best to calm down some, be a bit more direct and truthful. “No, I don’t. I’m kind of making this up as I go along.”
“Ah.” Adrien gave a slight snicker, having probably already figured that out by now. “Well, I didn’t have anything else planned for tonight, so I guess I’m up for anything.”
“Would it be cheesy to take you to the top of the Eiffel Tower?” Ladybug playfully shrugged.
“Maybe just a little bit,” Adrien warmly chuckled and leaned towards a nightstand to retrieve his wallet. “But I like cheese, so...”
“So it’s a yes?” Ladybug stepped back outside and offered him a hand.
“Only if we can grab some ice cream on the way.” Adrien laughed warmly, easing his arm around her shoulder. “I’d offer something fancier, but I kinda don’t wanna change clothes.”
“It’s a-” Ladybug cleared her throat to get a sudden lump out while grabbing him tightly by the waist. They’d hung out together for hours on end at this point, become so much closer than she would have ever expected, and yet it was still hard to call it what it really was.
What it’d always been.
“It’s a date.”
---------------------------------------------
“Y’know, I could have totally paid for this.” Ladybug swung her feet over the edge of the tower, admiring the tinted veil of night that had slowly crept up over the night sky before returning her attentions to him. To her date.
“I don’t doubt it.” Adrien replied, taking a few licks of his strawberry ice cream. “But it’s the least I could do after you asked me out.”
“Heh, right.” Ladybug’s face felt warm amid the cool breeze blowing through the sky, opting to delay her inevitably flustered and timid response by tending to her own stick of mint ice cream.
Before she could even try to muster such a response, however, Adrien took her place.
“I know today wasn’t too, uh...romantic or anything, and I’m sorry for not planning anything in advance,” He struggled to stop from muttering or rambling. “I’m really glad we got to go out, together, even if it was just to the ice cream stand.”
“Oh? Um, of course, I’m happy, too.” Ladybug wasn’t quite sure how to reply or where he was going with this. “And don’t forget, the top of the Eiffel Tower, too.”
“Yeah, right.” Adrien took a soft bite out of his ice cream. “But, what I mean to say is...I guess there’s been something on my mind lately, and I...I was so busy today that I didn’t think I’d get a chance to ask.”
“Hm?” Ladybug’s heart rate seemed to jump and she was glad she’d nearly finished her treat as it might have been dropped otherwise. Her mind started going a mile a minute again with as many different possibilities even as he worked his way through his thoughts next to her.
“Well, we’ve been hanging out for like, two years now, and...I know I don’t technically know who you are, but…” He blushed, moving over slightly until his hand was gently laying on top of hers as if she were a lighting rod for his scattered, nervous mind. As always, she made him feel at ease. She made him feel strong.
“What I’m trying to ask is,” Adrien took in a deep breath, his eyes focused solely on hers. “Would you like to go out with me?”
“We, er, we kinda already are out.” Ladybug nervously chuckled, immediately shaking her head to try and prevent herself from ruining the moment.
“No, I mean, do you want to be my...girlfriend?” Adrien’s voice seemed to linger on the word. “It might be hard, y’know, since we’re both kinda famous and all that, and-”
“Yes.” Ladybug answered, leaning in closer. “I...I would like that very much, Adrien.”
Adrien smiled the way he always did, with warmth and light so bright it melted her heart. He somewhat flinched, unsure of what to do next though it wasn’t like she was any better in that regard, so silence quickly fell.
Ladybug took a breath of her own and placed her ice cream stick down beside her. What would otherwise be considered rational thought again left her, leaving her with nothing but impulse. An impulse that told her to lean further towards him.
Both matched one another’s movements even if they weren't totally aware that that’s what they were doing. It simply felt natural to do so in the moment, just as natural as it felt when whatever distance between them was filled and their lips finally met.
The kiss took its time, slowly getting deeper and more passionate while one of Ladybug’s hands reached around to the back of his head and one of Adrien’s ended up on her face. The sound of warm wind blowing mixed with their heartbeats, like the flavors of their ice cream swirled together in each other’s mouth.
Ladybug eventually released him with a prolonged exhale through her nose, as if she had to come up for air. No words came to her mind, but the shine of the sun fading on the horizon colored his face, her boyfriend’s face, with a comfortable glow that kept a smile stretched across hers.
Adrien, on the other hand, rested his forehead to hers, sliding his gentle grasp back to one of her pigtails. His heart was still going a mile a minute, as he figured hers likely was, pulsing with what he could only describe as pure joy, as a hole in it seemed to finally be filled.
Twilight painted the sky above them, stars buried among the clouds and twinkling subtly. Such a sight would have been captivating, had she not already found herself lost in Adrien’s loving gaze. Dim streaks of sunlight swirled and mixed with the coming darkness in a way that reflected on the material of Ladybug’s mask and lit up her eyes.
They’d shared such a gorgeous view a million times by now, spent so many hours lingering on one another, but the sight hadn’t gotten old.
It never would.

Why Adrien is Pissing Me Off With Every New Episode - Riposte Season 2 Episode 5 Initial Overview - SPOILER ALERT
Let me just start off by saying Kagami is a great character and a formidable villain. Her design is beautiful and she’s incredibly humble. However. Her presence has now made me aware of a side of Adrien that makes me genuinely irritated. His “naive” side.
Adrien seems to suspect Kagami as Ladybug initially. As soon as he sees her face (and her ring) the pink sparkles in the background come up which signifies romantic interest (I think). Even after he finds out that Kagami isn’t Ladybug, he’s still captivated by Kagami. So why does this piss me off?
Welp. Because Adrien is giving mixed signals all over the place, and Marinette is my favorite character. He’s slow dancing with Marinette, making her presents, flirting with her as Chat Noir. Yet somehow she’s still “just a friend”. The amount of times he said "Marinette is just a good friend” in this episode made me want to rip my hair out. On the flip side, when she’s Ladybug he’s holding her hand, sniffing her, taking the fall for her, blowing her kisses (as Adrien).
In the Origins episode, we find out that the reason Adrien fell in love with Ladybug initially was due to her confidence, superhero prowess, her ability to fight, and her passion for justice. This has worried me from the beginning because we know that more miraculous holders will be coming, and any superhero can possess these qualities. I’m worried that Adrien is attracted to these qualities in a person rather than actually being in love with Ladybug (whereas I could argue that Marinette may actually be in love with Adrien).
Then we get introduced to Kagami who is a better fighter than Ladybug, just as passionate, and maybe even a bit more confident. She’s checking off all the points on Adrien’s list (and let’s not forget his love for dark hair and bright eyes).
There was a moment at the end where Kagami and Adrien are shaking hands and gazing at each other like Marinette and Adrien usually do, and I started really liking Kagami while also becoming increasingly annoyed with Adrien. Especially with the added factor that Marinette saw the whole interaction.
Innocent or not, Adrien is leading Marinette on with his actions. Even though he claims she’s just a friend he acts like she’s more (toward Ladybug and Marinette). I can’t believe I am saying this, but when Marinette got upset with Adrien’s “just a good friend” comment, I wanted her to give up on him and move on. As Ladybug she’s always rejecting Chat Noir because she’s in love with Adrien. She’s even stated that she would consider Chat Noir, but she’s completely committed to Adrien - her actions and words match up. At this point, I’m so ready to meet Luka. Maybe when Marinette’s no longer an option Adrien will wake the hell up.
All I need from Adrien is a verbal admittance that he may like more than one girl. And I don’t care if that’s Ladybug and Kagami or Ladybug and Marinette or Marinette and Ladybug and Kagami - I just want him to stop being so oblivious to his own feelings. I 100% blame his parents for this emotional stagnancy, but that’s another conversation.
Other noteworthy things:
1. Gabriel is a horrible fucking person. Worst Father ever, I swear. He knows Kagami is after Adrien and still spurs her on. Have some concern for your son Gabriel ugh. (Edit: Yes I know he initially tried to divert Riposte’s attention, but since I know he can take away powers and such, I still think he’s not a good Father).
2. Marinette “beats” Adrien in fencing practice, and I’m 88% sure he was going easy on her (I’m not a fluent French speaker). Why? Adrien beats Kagami (a professional), but Ladybug has extreme difficulty fighting Kagami. Though, this could be because Kagami had extra powers and Ladybug isn’t confident in her fencing skills. (Edit: Nope I just rewatched and Marinette did legitimately get two points on him. Kagami and Adrien have a conversation on how one point from an amateur doesn’t make Kagami, not a champion).
3. Chat Noir was 100% needed in this episode, and can I just say that these past two episodes he has really stepped up. I really felt like Ladybug needed him and I was more than impressed with his contribution. Also, Chat Noir was super successful with hiding his injured ankle, I’m really proud of him (though I’m pretty sure Ladybug fixed it with her powers).
4. I said it once, but it’s worth mentioning again, Kagami is just wonderful. Her design is beautiful, she’s not a bitch or a liar. I still don’t want her to get with Adrien AT ALL, but I look forward to seeing her in future episodes. Hopefully, she’s not a recurring villain (I kind of got that vibe considering how crazy strong she was).
5. Do Tikki and Plagg know the identities of both Chat Noir and Ladybug? I’m so suspicious of them...
6. The Ladrien was cute but tainted by my newfound aggression toward Adrien “She’s Just a Friend” Agreste. The indirect kisses were cute. Oh, and the Adrien saving Ladybug moment in which he twisted his ankle was also cute. It was all cute.
Let me know what you think, and remember: just two/three more episodes until The Battle of the Queens; AKA Chloe somehow obtaining a miraculous.

After she accidentally trips into Adrien and apologizes about “falling for him,” Marinette learns that he’s no match for cheesy pick-up lines–whether they were unintended or not. And while she finds it flattering that he turns into a flustered mess with only a few words, Marinette comes to regret making him uncomfortable. That is, until she learns he’s Chat Noir. At which point the phrase “just desserts” becomes a permanent fixture in her everyday plans.
A story in which Adrien is flustered, Marinette is smooth as glass at dropping lines, and Chat Noir gets the romance he was always asking for–even if he doesn’t quite know how to handle it.

A Hero’s Promise (Lucky Charm Zine)
This summer I was asked to pinch-hit for the @luckycharmzine and it was so much fun! Thank you to the mods for all of your hard work, and for letting me be apart of this experience! The theme was reveals, and seeing as they asked me in the middle of Ladrien June, ya girl just had to write some Ladrien (with a lil bit of Adrinette too because yall know me:P) Be sure you support the whole zine because it’s full of wonderfully talented people who created so much amazing content!
Summary:  When Marinette finds herself in a dire situation with Adrien, she has no choice but to transform and save them both. Will Adrien keep her secret, or will Marinette's identity be revealed for good?
Read on AO3
“Okay, girl, no chickening out this time,” Alya said.
The class had taken a field trip that afternoon, and as was customary any time the opportunity presented itself, Alya and Marinette had a plan to get closer to Adrien. It was a simple plan really, one that even Marinette couldn’t mess up. All she had to do was stand beside him on the tour and talk. Easy.
“What if I mix up my words again?” Marinette whispered as they trailed several paces behind Adrien and Nino.
“Just keep going. Adrien has heard you stammer a million times by now. Take deep breaths. I’m gonna distract Nino.” Alya patted Marinette’s cheeks before striding over to link her arm through her boyfriend’s.
“Adrien, do you mind if I steal Nino for a while?” She asked, batting her eyelashes, and Marinette wished she had a fraction of her confidence.
“Not at all, Alya,” Adrien said, and Marinette saw her opening.
She could do this. The field trip was only a couple hours, and if she played her cards right, he’d fall in love with her then one day they’d get married, have three kids and a hamster named-
“Adrikins!” Chloe cooed, shoving Marinette out of the way and latching onto his arm. “Look at my new manicure!”
“Uh, that’s great, Chlo,” he said, sounding every bit as unenthused as he looked.
Marinette glanced at Alya who motioned for her to step in, but at her panicked expression, Alya slapped a palm to her forehead. She’d messed up and chickened out again. Maybe she should give up on love and move to the countryside and become a beekeeper. She could totally be a beekeeper.
“Hey, Chloe, I think I saw Sabrina refilling your water bottle from the tap,” Alya called, and Chloe stopped in her tracks.
“She what?” Chloe gasped. “If she thinks I’m going to drink tap water, she has got another thing coming. Sabrina!”
As Chloe stormed off, Alya nodded toward Adrien, and Marinette took a deep breath. She could do this. It was only two hours and the rest of their lives. All she needed to do was just talk-
A loud crash sounded several floors above them, shaking the building, and Marinette braced herself as the windows shattered. As people ran screaming, Mlle. Bustier barked orders from the front of the line, urging students to safety.
Marinette threw her head back with a sigh. Did Hawkmoth need to pick right now to create an akuma? Did he have a radar that went off every time she was about to make headway with Adrien? Nevertheless, duty called.
Using the chaos as cover, she slipped away from the group and ran the other way toward the stairwell, but as it turned out, the stairs weren’t as private as she originally thought. Throwing open the door, she crashed into another person, toppling them both to the floor, and as she sat up, she found herself staring into two green eyes wincing under a mop of blond hair.
“A-Adrien!” She jerked back several feet. “I’m so sorry! I was just, uh, trying to run away from the akuma, and-”
“It’s fine. You okay?” He asked, offering a hand to help her up. Always the gentleman even if she did completely knock him over and ram her head into his chin.
“Yeah, you?” She asked, and he rubbed his jaw with a shrug.
“I’ve had worse,” he said. “We should probably get out of here.”
“Uh, right. We should,” Marinette said, sparing a glance at her purse.
They jumped at the loud crash in the hall, but both stood frozen on the platform. Marinette needed to get away and transform, but she didn’t have a viable excuse to ditch Adrien. Luckily for her, he took the lead, tugging her down to the next level.
“We can hide out until the akuma passes then make our escape,” he said, ducking into the door one flight below.
“Uh, right,” she said, hoping her voice didn’t betray her lack of enthusiasm.
She glanced around the room, searching the rows of cubicles for any means of escape. Never in her life did she think she’d be desperate to get away from Adrien, but now wasn’t the time for snuggling. Paris needed Ladybug, so her love life would have to wait.
Large windows spanned the far side of the room. Several had shattered from whatever attack the akuma launched, and hanging just on the other side was their ticket out of there.
“Look!” She tugged his sleeve. “A window washer’s scaffold. We can get down with that.”
“Whoa, good thinking, Marinette,” he said, rushing over and clearing away broken shards with his foot.
He climbed in first then offered her a hand, and she tried not to think about how much hand-holding this excursion had come with. She hit the button on the control panel, breath hitching as it started to lower. Freedom was only a few minutes away, that is, until a desk flew through a window and sliced the wires.
Adrien pulled her close as they dropped six stories before the scaffold jerked to a stop, and they flung apart, scrambling to right themselves as it swung. They were still ten stories up, but from the looks of the wires, they weren’t going to be for much longer.
“Are you okay?” Adrien asked, attempting to reach for her, but the scaffold shook and rocked.
“Don’t move!” She gasped, shifting her weight to counteract his. “We need to figure out a way down.”
“Maybe we should just wait for Ladybug,” Adrien suggested, and she glanced down at her purse with a wince.
“I don’t think we’ve got time,” she said, nodding at the fraying wire.
“What are we going to do?” He asked.
Marinette surveyed their surroundings, searching for anything to add time or get them out safely, but their options were slim. Any sudden movement would likely send them plummeting to the ground, and even if they did nothing, it wasn’t long before the scaffold gave out under their weight. There was only one way out, and she didn’t have another choice.
The scaffold groaned, and Marinette lunged at Adrien as the wire snapped, wrapping her arms around his waist as her suit materialized. Her yoyo hooked around a beam as the scaffold crashed to the ground. When she glanced back at Adrien, his eyes were wide which was only natural seeing as she’d inadvertently told him the most important secret in the world.
“You’re-”
“I know,” she said, lowering them to safety. “And you can’t tell anyone.”
“No, yeah, sure, but you’re really her?” He looked her up and down with awe.
“Uh, yeah,” she said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “No one should know who I really am, but we didn’t have another choice. I’m trusting you, Adrien.”
His gaze found hers, a soft smile curling on his lips. “I won’t tell anyone. Your secret is safe with me. Promise.”
Her cheeks warmed, but there was no time for flirting. She palmed her yoyo, taking a few steps back. “Find somewhere safe to hide, okay?”
“Ladybug, wait!” He called as she tossed her yoyo up the street, and she turned over her shoulder. “Uh, I- come by my house later.”
“Okay,” she said, and when he nodded her on, she tugged the slack and shot off.
Chat Noir arrived on the scene the same time she did, and she hoped that her expression didn’t betray her guilt. There wasn’t another option. It was a fact she repeated to herself that day as they captured the akuma. As the city returned to normal. As she and Adrien exchanged curt nods on the bus, her secret passing unspoken between them.
She wasn’t sure how to feel knowing that someone knew her identity now, or that this particular someone knew her identity. Of course it was dangerous and wrong, and it never should have happened, but she did her best to see the positives. She finally had someone other than Tikki to tell about her double life. Even better that someone was the boy she was in love with which gave her more excuses to talk to him, and being a superhero didn’t exactly hurt her chances at impressing him either. A little late-night tour of the city from the rooftops and-
What was she thinking? This was bad! Adrien knew her identity. Should she go into hiding? Stop being Ladybug? Maybe she could make Chat Noir the new guardian and lose all of her memories. But what if the new Ladybug failed, and she had no memories to help stop Hawkmoth then it would be all her fault for exposing herself, and Paris would be doomed and-
“You okay, girl?” Alya snapped her out of a downward spiral, and she removed her nubs of fingernails from her mouth.
“Uh, yeah, just thinking about how I messed up with Adrien earlier,” she said, plastering on a smile.
“Aww, don’t worry. You’ll get him next time,” Alya said, draping an arm over her shoulder, and Marinette let out a breath.
“Yeah…”
***
Adrien’s window was open when she arrived later that night, her stomach churning as she hesitantly lowered into view. He paced the length of his couch, looking up when she appeared. Their eyes locked, both staring until Ladybug gestured to the floor.
“Can I come in?” She asked, and he nodded, moving around the couch to meet her.
Silence stretched between them, and Ladybug drummed her fingers on her yoyo, heart threatening to beat out of her chest as Adrien ran a hand over the back of his neck. What exactly did one say in this situation? Should she play it cool? Crack a joke? Beg him not to tell anyone? There wasn’t exactly a training course on what to do if you expose your secret identity.
“Um,” he finally managed, and her eyes flicked up to his. “Thank you for saving me earlier.”
“Oh, yeah, no problem,” she said. “I mean, after all, it is my job.”
“Right, of course.” Adrien nodded, and the silence resumed. They both shifted, the tension between them stretching until the pressure snapped like a rubber band. Words spilled out like rapids, one stream overlapping the other.
“Listen, I know that we can’t undo what happened, and I know that you won’t tell anyone because you’re so trustworthy and cute-- wait did I say that out loud?” Ladybug said as Adrien rambled just as awkwardly.
“I’m really sorry that you had to tell me your identity like that, and I promise not to tell anyone. I’d never betray you like that ever, and I feel really bad that you had to be the one to reveal your identity,” Adrien said, their words mixing until they both clamped hands over their mouths.
Adrien pressed his lips together, determination glinting in his green eyes.
“I feel like it’s only fair that I tell you because it’s important to me that you know you can always trust me,” he said, taking a step forward. “You weren’t the only one who could have gotten us out of that situation. In another couple seconds, I would have transformed to save us both too.” Lifting her hand to his lips, he continued, “I’m sorry, m’lady. I guess now the cat’s out of the bag.”
“But- you-” A devilish smile curled on his lips, and as the two halves of his persona clicked together, Ladybug threw her arms around his neck. “It’s you.”
“I’m really sorry, bugaboo,” he murmured against her shoulder. “I should have acted sooner.”
“Even if you had, I would have known your identity. There was no way around it,” she said, pulling away. “We can’t change what happened, but we do need to talk about what to do now. Knowing our identities while Hawkmoth is still out there is dangerous. If one of us gets akumatized…”
“I know,” Adrien said, lowering his gaze. “This isn’t exactly what I was expecting when I dreamed of finding out who you really are. I hoped that I’d single handedly take down Hawkmoth and impress you so much you’d fall in love with me.”
She smiled at that, brushing his nose with her finger. “What should we do? Should we stop being Ladybug and Chat Noir?”
“What? No!” His eyes widened in horror. “Look, there’s no one I trust more than you, and I think we make a pretty awesome team. Besides, who knows, maybe this is for the best. Maybe we’ll be stronger and more united. We can have each other’s backs all the time.”
When she didn’t seem convinced, he added, “We’re the cat and bug team, remember?” He said, and at her stern expression, he corrected, “Fine, the bug and cat team.”
“Okay,” she said, taking a breath. “I trust you, and we both agreed when we took on our Miraculouses to keep the city safe. We can’t turn back on that promise now.”
“You and me against the world?” Adrien said, holding out a fist.
Ladybug looked him up and down, a smile curling on her lips as she touched her fist to his.
“As always.”
