series 3 is so frustrating because there is like a shining core of pure diamond underneath the problems . like conceptually it rocks so incredibly hard. but the problems

i am at that point in the royals-only!insane rev run where the Fun starts, aka scarlet is. well.

and ironically i think it's easy to forget that anankos/(gunter) aims first at corrin with the fireball, wounding her -

(this shot)-

-and then again a second time, before scarlet throws herself in between.

like.....

okay, one - corrin's probably got at minimum some burn wounds. what the fuck does he feel about that. he appears immediately next to her after, he definitely sees them.

two - he almost succeeded in straight up killing her. what. the fuck does gunter feel about that (regardless if they're a pair or not). he's gotta know about it. jury's out on whether he's "in control" at the exact moment (considering base gunter has 0 magical ability, so anankos is influencing to some degree there).

here's the thing to the last part: a later possession scene shows that he's still got the ability to talk "as" himself and throw fireballs so fates doesn't even let us have the easy way out of weakly saying "eh anankos was fully in the driver's seat" and pinning the blame on anankos.

ahaha no that was at least some bit of gunter that willfully aimed two killing shots at corrin.

god i love rev for a possession story that goes so fucking hard.

talking abt wigfrid and critisism but the further you go the less coherent it becomes. no i will NOT simplify it. read my flop analysis boy.

Something very interesting about Wigfrid that I don't really see in characterizations a lot is the concept of her having... I don't really know what to call it. Not 'a thinner skin', but I suppose the concept of her being wary of how people perceive her.

A lot of interpretations of Wig that I see tend not to go beyond the surface of her persona, that being a confident and overzealous warrior. And to an extent, that is what she is. But I also feel as though it's very important to her character to consider how she got to embracing that persona the way she has to begin with.

'Wigfrid' the actress- whoever she may have been- was clearly incredibly concerned with how she was perceived by others... Most of them being complete strangers to her- people who she'll never meet or get to know, who will never know her in turn. Hell, the opinions of those strangers were the driving force to her accepting Maxwell's deal to begin with! Yes, she wanted her popularity back, but were it not for the people who tore her down with their words alone, she never would have lost it to begin with!

I think the snake motif in Curtain Calls was a very interesting choice for Klei, if only because to me it feels deliberate. The giant serpent she fought within her fantasies manifested itself from her newspapers... The term 'snake' is frequently used to describe individuals who are deceitful and dishonest. To me it doesn't really feel like a coincidence that- of all the beasts, that is the one they choose. A creature who's very title is a double meaning, used to represent the critics who so viciously tear her down, fangs dripping with venomous lies that she can only fight against within the safety of her mind.

"Oh, Savvy-" I can hear you cry, "-Savvy, I think you're reaching a little bit here". Normally I would be inclined to agree. Very frequently I find myself grasping for straws to prop up Klei's otherwise sparse characterizations. However, if the snakes = liars = critics theory isn't enough on its own, I would also like to remind you of what happens after Wigfrid defeats the snake in Curtain Calls. She falls back into reality at the sound of a disembodied voice, and from the newspapers manifests a silhouette of Maxwell. A direct parallel to her fantasy, the news has yet again taken the image of a 'snake'... Of a deceiver. To me, that seems incredibly intentional.

NOT TO MENTION that if the theory is true that MAXWELL MADE UP THE NEWSPAPERS TO BEGIN WITH in an attempt to emotionally manipulate her, then the snake metaphor would make EVEN MORE SENSE because he is LITERALLY making himself tangible out of HIS OWN lies. but i'm NOT GETTING INTO THAT RABBIT HOLE right now because i'm ALREADY DIGRESSING!!!!!

So, now that we can ALL AGREE that Wigfrid's hatred of snakes stems from a bit of self projecting, we can bring up Wigfrid's current, in game hatred of snakes, and perhaps draw a couple of conclusions about how criticism may be effecting her now, as opposed to how it was pre-Constant:

Her unabashed hatred is visibly obvious. She goes about engaging with snakes in a VERY unique way she does the rest of her quarry. She takes great pleasure in their destruction, and goes so far as to label them her enemies, specifically. I looked it up, and as far as I can glean this wouldn't be a pre-establised trait of her persona. This vitriolic snake hatred is entirely stemming from the person underneath.

So. With the context we previously gathered that implies that maybe the reason she sees snakes in such a way is due to the fact that they are practically synonymous with critics and 'liars' to her, I can safely conclude that. um. No, I really do not think she has grown any more of a hide against criticism than she had before accepting Maxwell's deal.

Wigfrid's hatred of snakes was a big part of her character from even before Curtain Calls (obviously, bc shipwreck released way before her refresh did), but I feel like them taking this specific facet of her character- one that's lesser known from her, buried behind her more stereotypical motifs- and adding such important context to it was a intentional act. I refuse to think otherwise.

Even outside of the whole. Snake Thing I spent two hours describing, though. To me it still seems plausible for Wigfrid to act all tough, but take insults very poorly. Yes, in a prideful sort of way- where she feels the need to actively defend herself and her 'honor'- but also just in a... regular way. I don't think it'd show up much in the Constant because. i mean, there's more important things for the survivors to do. but i really do feel like scathing insults would bite her more than someone would expect it to.

Also I just think it would be funny and help flesh out her nuance. Is that a crime. To want to give my girl some nuance. Is that a sin.

#wigfrid: when you've been in the industry for as long as i have you develop a thick skin #maxwell: navy blue is *not* ur color #wigfrid: NAVY BLUE BRINGS OUT MY EYES YOU PRICK #anyways. can you tell i've been wanting to talk abt the snake motif thing for like. months.#idk. if this doesn't make sense yes it does.#you don't know her like i do. i know her flawlessly though. klei told me that all this is true btw #also whoever wrote her hamlet quotes and didn't give her vitriolic lines for the pugalisk DROPPED the ball and should lose their job /j #YEAH. i GUESS you could see her snake hatred as stemming from a personal hatred of poison #but not every snake IS poisonous and she hates them all the same #also impo i kinda feel like. poison. is ALSO a metaphor for critics. when u rlly think abt it.#bitter and venomous words. that insidiously sneak into your mind. killing you slowly. and you can't even fight against them.#to 'spit poison/venom' is to speak maliciously/with intent to harm.#would NOT be surprised if thats how she took slights against her #am i making ANY sense here. idk #“dst wigfrid”

the "having the new car" part is very cool I will admit. even the dumb phone app that's subscription based but they give you 1 year complementary to hook you ig

it's the everything else you still gotta deal with after buying the car that is sulking for me lmao, like, so much happened and I kind of just had to trust that I wasn't signing stupid shit. And also I gotta check the paper copies they gave me and see if I was supposed to receive some additional documents thru email or if they already gave it to me. and then figure out the online account for the financing (though I may need to wait for the letter in the mail...?). and decide if I try to pay it off right away or keep it open for a bit, like how much of an impact on my credit score would it be to open it and then close it right away (sidebar: it's such bullshit that paying off a loan lowers your credit score because "you closed an account." if anything that should IMPROVE your score. How is paying min payments on time proof you can meet payments but paying off early not proof you can repay loans. fake-ass garbo). and still figure out insurance lmao... though hopefully my parents will help me w that like they said they would (I got a quote for a solo policy lmao and mother was like, that's too much, it's less to add it to the existing plan (tho I'd have to add one of them to the title for that, and I'd have to pay off the loan before I can do that or else they'd have to get added to the loan too)).

and THEN I gotta give the guy a good review bc he offered me the car for msrp no markup lmao, which my mother still thinks is too high but okay mother things right now are So Very Different from when you last bought a car in 2014, supply had been way down due to supply chain redirects and the used car market is hot though cooling down, and apparently dealerships are pivoting their strategies and aren't filling lots with cars that they then have to lower prices on to move (literally was on the radio today, so by the time it's hit the news it's already well underway to being done that way). I think the car I looked at, it was the only one in the area in that color actually lol, and the TrueCar price was like, maybe $50 under MSRP, and like at that rate I didn't feel like I had leverage to bargain the price unless I played hard to get lmao, but I'd have to have gone in with that attitude which I didn't.

#cw violence #these tags get really upsetting please read at your own risk #i know i'm preaching to the choir here but the police are not only useless but actively harmful.#forty minutes before they got into the school #minimum. forty minutes minimum.#and in the meantime they were arresting and restraining family members who were trying to get into the school to save their kids #literally. that detail just came out last night. and i can't get over it.#they spent their time not trying to get in but preventing others from getting in.#and the armed sro did little to nothing.#i know people know sros are harmful but even statistically (not anecdotally) speaking the only things sros have been proven to do are #1) reduce small acts of violence (fights stabbings etc) and 2) increase rates of discipline suspension and expulsion for students of color #that's it. there's no statistical evidence that they do anything else.#like i knew they were worse than useless but i didn't realize there was actual data to back it up #most of them also get no school-specific training by the way. they're literally just cops plopped into schools. they know NOTHING about kids #and all this bs about how brave police are to put their lives on the line every day. when they didn't even go into the school right away.#they think their lives are more important than those of children. and they let those kids die.#i don't know how many they could have saved but. they could have acted so much faster.#i'm thinking about when my school did a lockdown drill and didn't tell us it was a drill so we would 'take it seriously'#and how terrified i was sitting there with 35 kids hiding out of sight thinking about how i'd have to charge a shooter if they came in.#it was 15-20 minutes and it was one of the most stressful experiences of my life.#and those kids and teachers sat there while the cops did worse than nothing. for minimum 40 minutes.

I just finished my first non-fiction book in probably years. It was 277 pages long. I can read a fiction book that short in about 2 and a half hours. This took me 3 months to complete. I do wish I was faster with non-fiction, I've got a huge list of science and political and historical books I want to read, but I have to remember these books require more brain power so it's not bad they take longer. The learning is important not the time.

#it was white fragility. which from my understanding is a pretty basic sort of baby's first foray into anti-racism #but it seemed like a good place to start? if I can't handle myself I'm not going to get anything out of the other books I want to read #I found a short paper on anti-colonialism/land back that I think I'm going to read next #I'm also in the middle of cobalt red but I had to return it to the library before I could finish so I placed another hold on it #idk I'm trying to educate myself #I have black and hispanic and indigenous friends and I am very aware that I'm white but haven't ever really done anything to learn #how that affects my relationships with them or to be aware of things I could do unknowingly/unintentionally or what biases I have #and I don't want to be another person that hurts them so I need to do things to be better #and I mean just generally in the world I'm around people of color all the time and I want to be aware and such there too you know #and then also everything about the history of the US and colonialism and such here and around the world #I benefit from that so I need to be learning about it and doing things to help fight back against it #idk. this is all stuff that's been on my mind for a few years #but I was struggling to actually act on it. hopefully I can keep doing better today and tomorrow #and reading and learning seems like a good place to start #I just have to keep reminding myself that these aren't fantasy stories and they require more thought and brain power than most books I read #so it's good thing it takes me longer. that means I'm considering and digesting what I'm reading #it is not a bad thing to read slowly
