i really need to finish this one day

#one of my fave ideas but i keep getting stuck or starting over. third time's the charm hopefully #anyways. posting it as an excuse to rant because i'm losing my mind over this rn for no reason #incoherent but i just need to Talk or my brain won't shut up #you ever think about how fucked up it is that aoi feels guilty over what happened. i do. i think about her a lot #he can't even look at me. we aren't even blood related but he still had to go to jail because of me. i still love him #in reality none of it is her fault. it shouldn't be about doumeki in the first place. baby girl you were 15 when it happened.#you can say that yashiro is cruel in his dismissiveness (on the surface) of doumeki's trauma but you can see where he's coming from #you got a glimpse of what your sister was going through? of what i went through? and now you're sooo guilty over it? and who does it help?#doumeki's so focused on his own feelings that he ignored aoi when they were living together. “saves” her by pure chance #proceeds to focus on his guilt and ignore her again. if yashiro didn't get involved she'd be sitting in the rain for god knows how long #yet she still loves and to some degree idolizes him #yashiro and aoi both saying that doumeki isn't the type of person to be a yakuza too. doumeki's good doumeki's better than that #and then ch 24 happens. where yashiro says that he's going to throw up and doumeki's response is “i probably won't stop even if you do”#“guess i am like my father after all” and yashiro still goes “you're not. you're pure and im the problem”#(touches doumeki's face. rare gentle gesture. he's gentle afterwards too before leaving. man.)#he's not cruel enough to repeat what he said in the earlier conversation and he doesn't actually believe it anyway #but i wish yashiro was cruel there. it shouldn't have been about doumeki and his feelings. again.#something about yashiro throwing a knife at another person and it flying back at him huh #for all the talk about how doumeki supposedly romanticizes yashiro it really is the other way around. always has been #which is a whole other conversation but yeah. everything about aoi and yashiro in relation to doumeki makes me so fucking sad #but this is also what i mean when i say that aoi doesn't haunt the narrative per se but still has this weird presence?#she's in the parallels. she's in the brief but important mentions. she's in the “your sister was lucky she had you”.#wips tag

I jolted awake from a nightmare as usual and normally I think about Ken or Six comforting me but....... this time for some reason I thought about Jacob.... ;-;

Jacob doesn't know much about ptsd and probably doesn't get nightmares too often. So when he sees me shaking and sweating after a rather bad one, he turns on some dim lighting and he looks kind of freaked out, not really knowing what to do other than to hug me and rub my back. He keeps saying "it was just a bad dream, it wasn't real" but that doesn't help me much because a lot of my nightmares are based off of real things that have happened to me, and he just,,, doesn't know what else to say. He just whispers "I'm not going to hurt you" and that's enough. He doesn't feel like it's enough though and he feels bad.

For a few minutes we lay there in silence, holding each other... in his giant stupid water bed with the fancy pillows that perfectly conform to the shape of your head in the dim glow of one of his fancy ass lamps and he's like, "hey, did I ever tell you where I got this lamp? How much it costs? So stupid." And he goes into this story about it. He spends like a good solid twelve minutes just listing off every single thing in his bedroom that he bought that he doesn't even care about. I can't get over his calf pants (pants for your calves). He suddenly realizes he can help; he's good at distracting me, he's good at making me laugh.

He lets me wear one of his shirts bc it smells like him and it's grounding and he thinks I look sooo cute in his shirts. He's like, screw it, let's get up and eat. yeah it's 5am who cares let's eat cereal. He pours a bowl of cereal and I notice on the back of the box there's marks with a sharpie, and he catches me staring and he says "oh yeah I filled out this little crossword puzzle last week :) you wanna try" and I think he's the cutest dork in the whole world. This is the same guy who introduces himself to sexy women at the bar by high-fiving them and somehow they still want to get into bed with him asap. He's like Barney Stinson, but, like, more of a decent human being.

And he's like :) what are you looking at. and i'm like. you! I love you. I love you so much and I am so lucky to have you. and he's like!!! I love you too I love you so much!!! and when we're done munching on cereal he turns on some music on his speakers and we hold hands while dancing in his stupidly huge living room. Maybe we watch a show or a movie until we finally doze off. It always takes me 6 to 8-ish hours to fall asleep again after I jolt awake, maybe some nights he's able to stay up with me, other times he's not because he has a regular sleep schedule like a normal human being. Lucky bastard.

But it doesn't matter if he falls asleep or not, because he always lays next to me making sure he's holding my hand, and before he feels himself dozing off, he always mumbles sleepily "Hey... star girl. It's gonna be okay. You got me now." He's always worried he isn't doing enough, but he is. He always is.

#the one i'm working on is the original form of 'on a wander'#which was originally going to be when amos was a bit younger than he ended up being in the final story and involve haj as well #but i ended up turning it into on a wander instead for. i don't remember why. magdaw reasons one assumes #not that anyone could ever tell bc this story is as yet unposted but on a wander refers to things from its earlier iteration #so now i am finishing that earlier iteration up i'm like i'll just. make this be the followup to on a wander instead #it's fun having to retrofit the ideas that started in this draft and ended up seeing the light of day in on a wander #ouroboros ass story #i also have to go reread on a wander to [checks notes] ensure consistency across body horror. solemn nod #i really love amos. i have to write more stuff about amos. he's a good boy #i have some vague ideas about him journeying all the way to the plateau and seeing the cloudsong. my original plan w/amos was that #he basically has very high luck and wanderlust as a survival adaptation. he goes places #meets everyone. has a good time bc very lucky. and learns leagues more stuff than he would in a normal lifetime #so originally i wanted to just do stories about him traveling the wasteland and ultimately various regions of the world just.#vibin and hangin out with fellow freaks. ah well. one thing at a time

in new york (or perhaps the entire country), apparently everyone celebrates valentine’s day. except single people, but not if they’re perfectly content with that and simply enjoy giving candy and flowers to the important people in their lives. even if they are, though, that still doesn’t guarantee that they celebrate valentine’s day, and sometimes someone will celebrate this year but not the next, or vice versa. it’s a bit confusing. so far, jiwon has received a mountain of chocolate, several bouquets, a cactus, two plush toys, and more handwritten cards than he can count from his students (and, by extension, their parents). according to delaney cruz, seven years old and very much up to date, everyone at school gives valentines to their classmates and teachers.

so jiwon shouldn’t really be surprised when logan pulls out a handmade card, with happy valentine’s day written on the front in his very distinct penmanship. with every second, glitter falls from the card and onto his sofa, where it will surely remain for several years. he spots a few hand-cut hearts, too, slightly peeling at the edges despite logan’s best efforts to paste them securely. but jiwon is—surprised.

“oh,” is the first thing he says, wide eyes blinking several times. a bewildered sort of smile tugs at his lips, but it quickly warms as he accepts the card and looks over it closely. a true labour of love. jiwon decides that he’ll frame it, keep it on his bookshelf beside his favourite novels. “thank you, logan. this is so sweet of y—”

there’s a duck in front of him. a white, super soft, adorable plush duck with a green ribbon tied around its neck and a neatly printed poem attached:

congratulations! it's your lucky day! a good luck duck has waddled your way. this rare little duck brings luck to you, like a penny, clover, or golden horseshoe! in any moment when you need luck quick, hug your build-a-bear lucky duck, and it should do the trick!

“oh,” jiwon echoes, momentarily lost for words like a duckling that’s wandered past its pond. the precious thing is downright adorable, and jiwon immediately buries his face in its round, downy belly as soon as he takes hold of it. he’s smiling so wide it should hurt, cheeks flushed with delight, and his body tips tips tips over until he’s collapsed against logan with a laugh like church bells. “i love it! i love it all, thank you so much! you’re the best!”
