I'm gonna be completely honest when I say that the thing that really really rubbed me the wrong way about the toshiro situation is the way he treats fallin in comparison to Laios. I'm not saying that Laios wasn't doing a considerable number of microagressions against him, he absolutely was. And Toshiro is right to be exhausted and furious about that. But the thing that gets me is how fucking similar the toudens are.
I do not care about him "getting in the way of farcille" I ship it but honestly when he was first introduced I really liked him and was out here shipping him too. I don't have any issue with the proposal, which is a clearly stated cultural difference. The fight scene is heartrenching for any autistic person to watch but also, he isn't exactly doing ok right there. He's in a very rough traumatised place, I get why he would lash out.
The thing that gets me is how so many of the characteristics he demonises in Laios he romanticises in Fallin and as an autistic person that feels really gross? Given these are mostly autisitic traits. It's an interesting complexity to him in a vacuum but outside of it, where autistic women are so often erased and the quirky manic pixie dream girl concept is so fetishised while having overlap with neurodivergent people it feels very uncomfortable.
Truthfully we never see Fallin do the same microagressions which may be a reason Toshiro didn't lash out at her and could see them in a more postive light. But she still seems to call him Shuro which isn't his name and her and laios are so similar that I feel like she likely had a similar reaction just, because he had feelings for her, it didn't seem as unwanted. Again that's an interesting and sympathetic thing within a vacuum but outside of it it makes me uncomfortable for the same reason I think it would be completely reasonable for someone who has had to deal with racial microagressions all their life to dislike Laios because of it
I'm not saying there is not racism isn't a part of the backlash, but I really did want to clarify exactly what made me start to dislike him. There is very good reasons for a lot of his actions towards Laios, but I'm never going to be able to see someone saying a gender they aren't attracted to showing autistic traits is annoying and a gender they are attractive to showing them is cute and not be made uncomfortable with that.

me after making a character (villain) that does so many bad things but as deliberate choices that conflict with their morals which is still bad regardless of guilt they may feel. and at the same time she's not "intrinsically evil," nor do they enjoy it in any way. and also they come across neurodivergent, and i don't want THOSE traits to be demonised. and they do still have lines they won't cross which is interesting compared to other characters but they are very very awful still and state this themself: hm i think. i think i did a little more nuance than i needed to here. i'm sure i won't mess that up and people will read things as intended and in good faith :)
#yeah this is about pip. PLUS SIDE she's fun. she's evil she's sad they're probably autistic but that's statistically likely in my writing so#basically i want her actions and choices and greed to be seen as bad#but not like her lack of expression or interest in/love of magic and studying it etc#(a risk given it's half of her motive that they're willing to do bad things to reach)#like she's TECHNICALLY morally grey internally but a villain in actions#i just don't want the wrong parts to be demonised/seem like i'm demonising them#and definitely don't want her read as like “misunderstood uwu” no she's awful <3#but that's her CHOICE not her NATURE#idk it's probably fine i'm just always prepared for the worst mentally#been having a crisis over phosphor's cast size too because the post going around with object show pet peeves#but it's. like phosphor doesn't work the same as a normal object show. voting plot or format wise.#so idk how it applies.#idk this became more venty than intended. i'm just a little stressed. it's been so long since i've shared work like i'm about to#and phosphor has so much room for error compared to anything i've made before#don't worry about this i'm just mentally ill <3 haha#like if people really end up hating it i'll just. idk. stop doing it i guess.#my best is all i can do#don't get me started on whether killing certain characters will get people upset/saying it's "burying your (insert group here)#(they're all queer if anyone tries to say gays specifically because a character has a relationship i'll just self destruct)#that's not foreshadowing half the deaths are still undecided. mainly because of this worry LOL#okay i should shut up now#hobbies include not making posts ever (haven't even been on tumblr much the past week)#and then posting paragraphs of tags and then dipping again. uh if people read this hope you're doing well. sorry <3#i can only be concise in fictional writing not rambles#also note that this is like REALLY POORLY EXPLAINED#but anyway

I am sure you may have already gotten this ask so feel free to provide a generic response. Jungkook deleting his IG is such a powerful move because in this time of high social media interactions, he doesn’t give a rats ass about the most superficial of platforms. And he has every right to choose to step away from it.
But you will always have conspiracy theorists and detractors who would want to read more into the actions of the members despite them clarifying. Jungkook’s IG account deletion is being labelled as either his rebellion against the company for restricting him or a deletion by the company it’s self for not abiding by policies or going on unsupervised and unauthorised lives. Despite him being a grown man with agency.
What’s your take on this?
Ha! this is the ask that was above yours.
People are saying Hybe make JK delete his IG and that JK did not delete because he doesn’t use it much. They say it’s because of all the unauthorized wlives he did. I just wanna know your thoughts on this
Obviously many will think all that. This fandom likes their theories no matter how absurd or stupid they are.
This fandom has many problems, but 4 of the main ones are the hero complex, the need to pigeonhole the members as victims, the demonisation of HYBE/BIGHIT and ignoring what the members say. We could talk about these four problems separately, but we can really boil them down to one complex - the fandom thinks it knows best. The fandom thinks it knows what bts members need, what's going on with them, what they want and what bothers them. they know all that better than the members themselves. The fandom, or many in it, have taken this weird parasocial relationship with bts to extremes and like everything that is taken to extremes, it is no good.
This hero complex is with all members, whether individually or as a group, but I have noticed since coming into the fandom, that it is particularly strong with the Maknae Line.
For many, the Maknae Line is being oppressed and exploited by the big bad HYBE/BIGHIT. The whole group, really, they are being taken advantage of! And that's why the maknae Line likes to "rebel" against them. I've always read how the agency and the company don't treat them well, make them do this or that and I'm just dumbfounded by so much… stupidity.
When you become a fan of a K-pop group I think it's almost impossible not to learn a little bit about the industry itself - although sometimes, a lot of times you learn that information from the wrong media. I think many of us know about the inhumane treatment many agencies have with their idols, the stupid behavioural clauses, forcing them to do things they don't want to do etc., that's unfortunately still relatively common in that industry, but I think it's also obvious that HYBE/BIGHIT isn't like that or at least not to the extremes that other companies go to and definitely not with BTS. Or not anymore.
BTS is HYBE/BIGHIT's golden goose. They started it all, they gave the company the opportunity to grow the way it has. Many argue about whether bts paved the way for the K-pop industry or not, but they did pave the way, at least financially, for the groups under HYBE. The report a few weeks ago that HYBE presented showed that bts still brings in the most economic income to the company, more than all other artists combined, despite having stopped activities as a group since June 2022, basically. And you still think that the company would deliberately do something to harm them?
I'm not a corporate apologist by any stretch of the imagination, but to pretend that bts members don't benefit from HYBE/BIGHIT as well, is stupid. Many seem to forget when it suits them that bts also own shares in that company.
But the worst part of this narrative is that these people don't realise how insulting it is to the artists they swear to love and claim to want to protect. To believe that the company is exploiting them, forcing them to do something they don't want to do and deliberately harming them in some way is also to believe that the members are useless, pusillanimous people who don't know how to stand up for themselves. It is believed that bts does not apply what they preach so much in their songs, in their campaigns, or in their concerts. It is to believe that the members of bts do not apply what many in this fandom brag about them preaching. They stand for. And that obviously doesn't make sense.
In this particular case, Jungkook is without a doubt one of the most important artists in the company. He generates a lot of income as part of the group and individually. The interest in him is out of this world. In business terms, Jungkook is a precious asset to the company and yet you think the company could force him to do or not do something?
In one of his last Wlives, Jungkook talked about how the company doesn't allow them to do Wlives without notice and I don't know what else but he still did it. In the Wlive where Tae joined for a few moments, they talked about how "the company would scold them" but they still didn't care, Tae even said that he would take responsibility. And in the next Wlive that Jungkook did, someone asked him if he was scolded and Jungkook basically said 'do they really think they could forbid me to do something?' which brings us to the problem of this fandom forgetting what the members say when it doesn't fit their narrative.
If what these people say were true, it would make more sense for HYBE/BIGHIT to ban Jungkook from doing Wlives unsupervised, in the middle of the night than to order him to delete an account on a social media platform he hadn't used for a long time. But no, this fandom HATES to believe in the most logical explanations regarding anything bts related because then they wouldn't be able to "activate" their hero complex.
Jungkook is different. He walks to the beat of his own drum and is also somewhat impulsive. I don't doubt for a minute that he deleted/deactivated his Instagram account because he didn't see any benefit or use for it and because I felt that the novelty of the app had worn off for him for a while now. When Jungkook deleted all his posts and edited his feed in a more "professional" manner I remember thinking that he was getting bored of the app and like most of what Jungkook gets bored of, he would put it aside. And so it happened. Although it took him a while to do it.
I also think that the sasaengs' obsession with stalking him and so on also made him fed up, maybe it was something he saw in his account and he got tired of it. Getting away from toxicity is always necessary.

Floofty isn't evil, y'all are just mean.
I'm not sure why so many people demonise Floofty. Yes, they tend to be unethical and take extreme risks. Yes, they make dark jokes* and can be rather rude or blunt. I don't understand; this doesn't make them an EVIL or BAD person.
*(The cannibal thing is a joke. They only tried to eat part of their own leg, they still have their missing leg in their hut, and it wasn't much that they ate. Meaning; that not only would it be auto cannibalism, that it would also not be as significant as they made it seem throughout their interview.)
Their whole arc throughout the game was coming to the realisation that: YES, they need to take ethics more seriously and that not everything has a scientific purpose. They're still learning. To be more understanding and accepting of other people (Shelda specifically, as their arcs reflect one another.). Everyone had to learn something; I don't see anyone treating anyone else nearly as bad.
They also don't hate their brother? I know they are judgemental of him. However, they also ADMIT IN-GAME that they respect him and think highly of his opinion. I believe they act so high and mighty due to having to convince others of their reasoning so often. As they've said:
"I shouldn't need to put so much effort into explaining myself. But… It DOES take effort ... I cannot make myself understood… so I lose patience… and I give up on understanding. And perhaps... That is cowardice on my part."
All they want to do is further science and help others. They cannot understand why people ignore the benefits, despite the reasoning being clear to us as an audience.
As an autistic person, their behaviour screams autistic to me, it's just a headcanon but I have my reasoning. They don't understand social constructs, they struggle with making and maintaining relationships, they are very literal, they struggle to empathise with others and ignore things or to see the importance of anything that isn't their special interest (Science). They are well-meaning but don't understand how it's wrong. It explains their behaviour. They are still learning and growing.
Not to mention, they likely thought it was okay because of the government's encouragement? Playing through the isle of Bigsnax DLC/update you find out what started Snorpy's delusions with the Grumpinati from Floofty. It also explains why Floofty doesn't understand why it's not okay. They believe that anything should exist if it's beneficial, regardless of the consequences. They don't see how it would affect them, as pointed out by Shelda and Chandlo, which is why they shouldn't get to make that choice. They don't seem to understand that.
You're allowed to dislike them. Just stop treating them like a villain and misgendering them. The game makes their pronouns clear; even if you're confused, I'm sure most people have been told by now. I've seen people misgender them because they don't like them, which is just blatant transphobia.
I haven't seen it so much here on Tumblr; I've seen it elsewhere for the most part. It's incredibly frustrating to me. I can relate to Floofty, I'm sure other autistics can too. They're a really well-written character, in my opinion. I wish people weren't so horrible towards trans characters.

So I made a Palestine flag pin to wear at work, partially because it feels like all I can do, and partially because the city I work in seems to be having a weekly protest about what's happening in Gaza but I seem to be working or otherwise busy every time so I can't join them but I can do this.
I'm a supervisor at a retail store and if I'm working on the weekend, I'm in charge of the day. (This does matter)
Anyway, yesterday I'd stepped away from the register cuz my coworkers had it covered and I was in the middle of fixing up an isle that was in danger of dropping a bunch of rolls of fabric on someone if they pulled out the wrong roll.
After a second or two, one of my coworkers came up like "Hey the dude at the register is giving [coworker] a hard time about your Palestine pin" so I went over to check out what was going on.
He'd left by the time I got there but I did catch a glimpse of him leaving. I am a larger woman, both because I'm tall (like 175cm which is about 5'8-9") and also wider/a lil chubby, the coworker he'd been having a go at was the smallest of the three of us (all women) that was working there. And part of me thinks that's why he complained to her and not me. Because I'm nearly the same size has him but the one he decided to have a go with was like 60% his body mass.
So she has a name that sounds like it comes from the middle east and I'm p sure he's racist based on what he said so there's that too.
Some of the things he said was "[Palestine] is a terrorist state" (which isn't even how words work tbh) and that me wearing the pin was "offensive and disappointing" and then left. (My coworker told me that these are some of the things she said).
My coworker is ok, she was a little rattled mostly cuz that's just how you react when a customer randomly has a go at you, especially since the majority of our customers are nice (if stupid) and then she was just annoyed that she wasn't able to snap back at him.
I've told the women working yesterday and I'm telling the women who are working with me today (who are also quite small and petite) that our store is not a place for debating, and if they feel uncomfortable about anything a customer is saying they can tell them to leave. I will back them up 100% and cover for them of necessary though our store manager is pretty good about having our back on these things too.
It's just so wild to me that he saw my pin, right below my "I'm a supervisor" pin, went to checkout, saw a tiny, maybe middle-eastern woman ladled as a "team member in training" and decided to parrot racist bullshit that almost definitely came from Fox News and then walk off like he'd won something.
I will say, I've had nothing but good things said to me about my pin. I have the Palestine flag pin, and the Indigenous Australian flag pin, both of which I made out of old fandom badges that I painted over cuz I couldn't find anyone selling badges near me and wanted the Indigenous flag before the voice vote a few weeks back. And then cuz I was continuing to wear that, I decided I should also support another group of people who have been invaded, colonised, oppressed, and demonised. (Just cuz Australians didn't carpet bomb the indigenous people when they were driven from their homes, doesn't mean they wouldn't have if the technology had been available at the time tbh)
People have asked if I made them or have asked where I got them because they wanted to buy them. There are more people who support Palestine than we really realise and that's great.
But:
Leave retail workers alone.
And don't get your info from Fox News or Murdock news.

Johnny: Opinions and Thoughs
These are my thoughts and opinions on Mortal Kombat that a bunch of people probably won't care about, but I thought I should post them here. Now I will be using past games as reference, even though every character's interpretation/counterpart is different, they still play part to the canon storyline.
[Warning: This post is very long. Slight mention of sexual oral practise.]
I think every single character in Mortal Kombat is prideful and egotistical, the best example would be Jade in my opinion. With that being said I think the way they treat Johnny is a bit unfair. A lot of these will fall in line with my Neurodivergent Johnny headcanons and theory post, I suggest checking that out for context. I know the intros aren't canon and are more what if scenarios, but they mean something.
I have a lot of things to say regarding his character, for starters he gets invited to a tournament and sees it as a chance to show people he isn't just some actor but is legit in his martial arts. Good for him, (I've seen posts that demonise this and say it's pretty selfish as if we shouldn't be allowed to be selfish when situations call for it. Bro didn't like that people were calling him a fake and wanted to prove that he wasn't, there's nothing wrong with that.). When he shows up at the tournament half of the contestants are wearing costumes, can't blame the guy for not thinking it was real at first. There's a lady dressed as a hot soldier (I understand that it gets retconned), a bunch of ninjas standing around, and his opponents are wearing alien makeup.
First of all Johnny doesn't know about the existence of other realms, second of all it's the 90s and he's a Hollywood actor meaning he's no stranger to makeup and practical effects not to mention stunts. He probably figured it was something comic con related (as I've said in another post) and while questioning it he went along with it. He had no reason to think that Reptile and Baraka were real creatures.
When Johnny is told to finish his opponent he responds with "Yeah, right.", and I gotta say, it took me years to find out there was a sexual innuendo to that. Dude straight up thought they were demanding him to perform 'you-know-what'. That was just an example of what's to come (I'll be using the word 'example' lot). (Hollywood must be a wild place even in fiction).
First I'll start with his interactions. He's not very good at bonding with people. In mk9 we see a lot of this. I get that Johnny has his problematic moments, but in comparison to the other characters he's an angel. I'm the sort of person to sweep them under the rug, but I have to address them.
Examples:
"And I'm taking you down. I'm taking you down. I'm taking you out. I'm taking you out. And I'm taking you out... for dinner." I genuinely interpreted this as Johnny being playful. To be fair, I first saw this interaction when I was a child (say 7-9) so the fact that I could see myself doing that probably had to do with my immaturity. But everytime I rewatch it I only have fondness and not annoyance because I found it adorable just how proud he was of himself. I also appreciate how open he is about how he feels towards Sonya, I stan an honest man. However, it seems a lot of viewers saw this as him being stupid or something along those lines. If this was any other character they would be told to go to horny jail, but Johnny is met with hostility from most of the fandom.
"Nice hat :)." Johnny to Raiden in mk9. "You should be more respectful of Lord Raiden!" Liu Kang says to Johnny right away. SonicXD commented on this in his mk9 sucks video, I don't need to say anything. Johnny wasn't interested in saving Earthrealm at first, he straight up told Raiden and Liu Kang that they should call the military if Shao Kahn was that much of a threat (he was speaking facts tho). Also, I think he was still questioning what he got himself into, so Raiden and Liu Kang approaching him probably made him think he was surrounded by insane people. And then he finds out that it's all real and that he's not allowed to leave.
There's also when Johnny saved Sonya from Kano. How that went down was that Johnny was trying to escort her. By the way, this is minutes after he realised that he was in a death match and not some comic con related fighting tournament, everyone was waiting for him to kill Baraka and it dawned on him just how serious they were. So Johnny got worried for Sonya's safety by that alone. But it's also understandable on Sonya's end: here comes this guy trying to chat her up (get into her pants) and not getting the hint that she's not interested, and then tries to convince her that he needs to be by her side.
Cyrax got annoyed just by hearing him talk, you can see it on his face. I saw it as friendly banter on Johnny's side but Cyrax didn't. "Not everyone gets to rumble with a celebrity. Ready for a beat down, Sunshine? Here it comes." I think Cyrax was gonna kill him by that alone if it wasn't for Raiden's disapproving dad stares. Every single Lin Kuei is super serious so I think Cyrax didn't take it as banter.
Next is Jax. Johnny Green, Jax Purple: "So what's the deal with you and Sonya anyway? She is smocking hot." "It's not like that. I'm her CO." "Honey like that under my command-" "You'll wanna stop talking now." "...So if it's not like that- Then you won't mind if I-" "That's it!" And then Jax proceeds to beat him up.
Now I understand that Johnny was talking too much, and was a tad bit slimy about his hornyness, but he didn't want to get between her and Jax if they were a thing. He just has no filter. Now following my Neurodivergent headcanons for him this may have an occasion where he wasn't reading the social cues. Jax says "You'll wanna stop talking now." but Johnny has no intentions to stop talking nor does he want to stop talking. Johnny doesn't answer immediately, perhaps confused about the reply and ultimately deciding to ignore it. I too choose the wrong times to start talking to people, and most of the time I don't realise it unless it's pointed out. Happens way often than I'd like to admit.
I know that a lot of the characters call Johnny a clown or see him as a joke (Spawn, Kotal, Shang Tsung) due to how he operates, but I don't see that as the case. There's one specific quote in mk9's story mode that he says to Raiden: "Sure, let's go and ruin someone else's life." This is why I think Johnny was very aware of what was going on. He's also very open about his ego, he doesn't hide it like everyone else, and yes they are hiding it.
Now don't get me wrong, he does randomly antagonise people, but he's in a tournament so he can do that. And it's not like he was getting personal for most of them. I think the only time he says something personal is when he feels like he's being personally attacked.
"We have something in common?" - Johnny
"I too was once young and foolish." - Nightwolf
"But I looked good doing it." - Johnny
What Nightwolf said sounded like a backhanded comment to me. Uncalled for. This is the same guy that intentionally risked the invasion of Earthrealm just to teach Scorpion a lesson or something. Johnny can tell that Nightwolf is like the others, very serious and tolerant, so he's surprised that Nightwolf can even manage to see himself in him.
Relationships: Even in the intros it's shown that he has a better chance at friendships with the villains than with the good guys. It's more like they (good guys) are tolerable of him, especially Jax. I think Sub Zero allowing Johnny to get away with calling him Grandmaster Blueberry Ice is out of respect rather than fondness. This section can extend to interactions, as I think a lot of people misinterpret him as a person, which extends to a lot of things he says such as statements and nicknames.
Johnny asks the other characters if he can make movies based on their stories, meaning he's (in a way) asking for permission. Johnny could've easily made a movie about their lives without asking them, make money, and get away with it because it's not like they would even watch his movies (they hate him), especially non-Earthrealm characters. But he's respectful. So I guess he understands boundaries to a certain degree.
-----
"Heard you gave Cage a shiner." - Young Jax
"He pushes every damn one of my buttons." - Old Jax
"You, me and everyone else." - Young Jax
-----
"Not surprised I have a kid, but you." - Jax
Why can't he have a kid, Jax? He's so condescending about it too.
-----
"Actions speak louder than words." - Liu Kang
"Yeah, that's why I make action movies." - Johnny
"With fake fighting." - Liu Kang
-----
"We come from different worlds, Johnny." - Liu Kang
"Aren't you from Earthrealm too?" - Johnny
"I mean I come from the real world." - Liu Kang
Liu Kang is such a bully.
-----
"The answer remains no." - Scorpion
"But you'll be co-starring with yours truly." - Johnny
"Exactly." - Scorpion
I think a true friend would consider it.
-----
"What kind of name is Kabal?" - Johnny
"Got a better suggestion, Cage?" - Kabal
"For now on you're Carlos." - Johnny
Never change, Johnny. Kabal clearly finds Johnny annoying, but was able to humour him enough to answer with a question of his own, perhaps encouraging Johnny's curiosity.
-----
"Looking forward to a kindler, gentler Outworld." - Johnny
"Why? Because I'm a woman?" - Kitana
"Well that, and you're banging Liu Kang." - Johnny
I have a lot of opinions about this one. On Johnny's part I interpreted this as him giving her a thumbs up on becoming the new Kahn, and since Kitana is supposed to be on the good side she is expected to rule fairly. You know, like a good person. But then Kitana made it about feminism, so Johnny delivered a line to counter it. I honestly think Kitana was reaching at something that wasn't there and Johnny picked up on it. I'm probably making excuses for him, but that's my take. Her response annoyed me so much.
-----
"So you were to defeat Shinnok." - Kitana
"What is with people? Is it so hard to believe?" - Johnny
"Yes." - Kitana
Kitana this is literally you:
Tumblr media
-----
"If it's tail you want I can get that." - Kano
"Johnny Cage doesn't pay for it, Kano." - Johnny
"A scrubble? Note the date and time :D." - Kano
Kano is so pleased.
-----
"You stole my face for Ninja Priest!" - Kano
"Art imitates life, Kano." - Johnny
"Taking my cut outta of your hide." - Kano
A call back to what I stated in the relationships, Johnny didn't ask for Kano's permission for inspiration on a character.
-----
"Why a Russian fan club?" - Johnny
"Just going where the fans are." - Kano
"You have a showman's instincts there Kano. :D" - Johnny
-----
"I won't play your lackey, Cage." - Baraka
"Really? 'Cause I'm feeling a BFF vibe here." - Johnny
So this one is pretty wishy washy, but thought it would be beneficial to this post. I would lowkey enjoy a storyline where Johnny is buddy buddy with Baraka, who is reluctant to accept friendship but slowly gets used to it.
-----
"Oh, dude! I love westerns!" - Johnny
"The bullets are real, Cage" - Erron Black
"So are my fists." - Johnny
I'm pretty sure Johnny was just admiring Erron for what he is, kind of like meeting a nun in real life after years of only hearing about them... something like that. But Erron interpreted it as Johnny not being in the real world and treating everything as a joke.
-----
"Where is your fear?" - Noob Saibot
"Must've left it in my other pants." - Johnny
"We will find it." - Noob Saibot
Aww, Noob Saibot is so nice~ [Delusion] I love how Noob doesn't go out of his way to insult Johnny or belittle him, unlike some other characters.
-----
"Hey there, Tall Dark and Gruesome." - Johnny
"An apt description." - Noob Saibot
"Do you not get I am mocking you?" - Johnny
I headcanoned that Noob/Bi Han would take things literal, but he's also very analytical. I'm sure he was able to pick up on Johnny mocking him but didn't mind it, meaning he might have interpreted it as a nickname, which Johnny gives everyone. Wishful thinking, there could've been a lot of banter between these two.
-----
"You are more smug than usual." - Fujin
"I'm the new assistant thunder God." - Johnny
"Raiden should not have healed you." - Fujin
-----
"You know the evil overlord bit's played out." - Johnny
"What would you suggest?" - Shao Kahn
"Right now it's all anti-heroes." - Johnny
Is that kindness, Shao Kahn?
--------------
I think they did Johnny dirty in MK11, not gonna lie. To be fair, his storyline also didn't make sense in mkx thanks to discovering his new powers even though he's shown using them in mk9. If he was playable in mk9 story mode and his powers were usable, then the mkx part where he mysteriously saves Sonya because of the green light doesn't make sense. I think he should've been able to always use his green glow, that way Hollywood critics thinking he's fake has another tone to it. His green glow can be spotted in his movies, which is why viewers think he uses special effects, which led him to try to prove himself in the tournament.
I think the problem should've been that he couldn't control it, also as a call back to his mk9 ending. I think it's even referenced in an intro with Raiden. "Seek out the Wu Shi for instruction."
It also would be funny if everyone else was aware of it, but only Johnny wasn't. Like they all assumed he could use the green glow out of choice, but he didn't know or notice that he would go green. The fact that it happened during fights means it would only ignite in stressful situations or on instinct. He was also wearing shades for the majority of mk9 (because he likes shades), in fact he always wears shades so I think he's the only one who didn't notice the glow.
Johnny says "Yeah, those things are real." when referring to Baraka's blades, meaning he didn't feel that they were real. I'm not sure what that means, but it gives insight to his power level. Johnny defeated Shinnok. I get that Johnny 'softens him up' but he still defeated Shinnok, so I think he should've been able to at least handle Sindel. The reason Shao Kahn was defeated in mk9 is because the Elder Gods possessed Raiden which is how Raiden defeated Shao Kahn. They nerfed Johnny's character and I am not happy about that.
Now, with his upbringing and history. I think Johnny had narcissistic parents, and depending on who he got his powers from it was an inherited narcissism (don't know which parent had the powers, someone will probably say his father but let's not assume).
I think there was taught narcissism on Johnny's behalf. The thing about growing up with narcissistic parents is that you grow up thinking that their behaviour is normal, so he must've not seen anything wrong with the behaviour he learned. We also need to take a good look at his personality. He's a bit childish in terms of maturity, and this is common in individuals who grew up with a narcissistic parent. Johnny talks as if he's a teenager rather than the average 25+ year old man. To his credit he doesn't throw tantrums or lash out when his odd behaviours are called out (unless I missed something), but dude is childish. Only lashes out when his face is even slightly ruined and even blindly attacked some Black Dragons for getting a scratch on his face. However he is also very independent, from what I know. And he's a bubbly man, even when he changed, that's a character I can appreciate. I think him and Joey from Friends would be friends, even though I haven't watched Friends to confirm this.
Morality wise Johnny doesn't have wicked intent. In his mk9 story mode he says he's not gonna kill anyone when told to kill Baraka, realising that it's not an everyday tournament. He's okay with fighting people for sport (let's establish that tournaments are basically a sport) but not killing people. The tournament is like a perverted form of kill or be killed, one Johnny was forced into participating in some form (I'm talking about the killing and fighting for Earthrealm part). I don't think Johnny likes killing people or anything dead related. In mkx story mode he rolls a head off the helicopter in a fit of heeby jeebies and disgust.
"Have you killed anyone?" - Terminator
"Yeah, but they were all bad." - Johnny
"Why make that distinction?" - Terminator
Like a rationale of what he's experiencing.
-----
"Discard your jesters mask." - Kotal Kahn
"What you see is what you get, Feather Head." - Johnny
"I thought you merely played the fool." - Kotal Kahn
-----
"You revel in childishness." - Kotal Kahn
"Gotta stay sane somehow." - Johnny
"How are you a warrior?" - Kotal Kahn
----
"He was insufferable. Just like you." says Fujin about Johnny's great-great grandfather. Dude might've been a mega narcissist. Narcissism is taught and learned. Another example would be old Johnny and young Johnny:
Young Johnny - "Dad always said "Hungry people eat lunch, humble people serve it."
Older Johnny "Dad was an a**hole, Hollywood made us an even bigger one."
So based on those facts alone, Johnny comes from a long generation of egotistical people. Then we have Hollywood. I think Johnny got into Hollywood not just because of creative thinking, but I think there's also a sense of longing there. Narcissistic parents, ignore, abandon and degrade their children. Along with making movies being a hyper fixation, their abandonment played a part in his need for spotlight. Johnny divorcing Sonya for her neglect might be more personal because it was a reminder of his parents.
I heard that there's a lot of narcissists in Hollywood, so with Johnny surrounding himself with people like that...(yikes!) The thing with narcissists is that they are always out for themselves. An autistic person struggles with social interactions, while a narcissist will manipulate the social interaction. Johnny (and Kung Lao) doesn't do that. He very much cares about the people around him and doesn't see them as tools.
Now back to his family.
"Grandma Carlton told you my secret?" - Johnny
"(Snicker) Johnny pee pants?" - Cassie
"I had one accident! One!" - Johnny
Judging from how Johnny both asked the question and responded, I theorise it came from a place of trauma. For his mother to tell Cassie the story as if it's a funny story and give him a nickname is suspicious. I think I already mentioned this in another post but I would like to elaborate. Me personally, I don't think anyone pissing themselves is a laughing matter. People don't piss themselves for no reason, or at least most people don't. Humiliating their child is a narcissist's past time. While his mother may not have played a part in humiliating him, she still found it funny enough to tell Cassie, who also for some reason found it funny.
(I have mixed opinions on Cassie and I might get in on her in another post. I don't know how many of these I'll be making.)
Going back to the interactions between young and older Johnny, I think older Johnny hates his younger self. Movie making is something Johnny loved, cash grab or not creative thinkers like doing creative things.
I think I mentioned in another post that it's something he learned, so I'll like to continue that theory. Johnny wasn't that much of a bad person, sure he has flaws, but he's not evil or anything. So older Johnny's reaction to his younger self eagerly trying to convince him to make movies and stuff was kind of unnerving.
It should've been something he could smile fondly at, but instead he reacts as if his passion has been beaten out of him. He finds his younger self annoying, just like everyone else. Everyone else = Sonya, Jax, and pretty much everyone else. As a person who likes coming up with stories and wants those stories to be known, I feel crushed by this conclusion of analysis. Poor Johnny.
Tumblr media
Another fact about Neurodivergent people is that no matter what they will always be the same person no matter how much their opinions and belief change overtime, they will still have the same personality. Johnny still likes making his jokes and still gives people nicknames, but he lacks creativity in creating things. I guess applying his need for action into training the Kombat kids and working with the Special Forces counts as a slight change.
I'm coming close to an end so I'll sum it up by saying that Johnny shouldn't have got back together with Sonya. I don't ship them and I'm making it clear that I hate them together. Even before mk11 I thought the ship didn't make sense and it needs to be a character that doesn't tolerate him but actually enjoys his company from the beginning. It took me everything not to write that Johnny is a national treasure that should be protected.

How is Zoe's comic racist? (sorry don't mean to question you, genuinely curious) Also, I admit I was also sucked into the salt fic whirlpool, but quickly left after I realized how toxic it was being. Could you also elaborate on GalahadWilder, if it isn't too uncomfortable for you? I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude, or ask uncomfortable questions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can’t point out everything off the top of my head but the racism (along with everything else but that’s not the focus) is a large part of what made me throw my hands up and write this. And I won’t be answering any more asks about any of this because I just want to get it out there so people know (because of how many people genuinely don’t see it) and then go back to trying to forget that this shit ever existed, rather than dragging out some new fandom drama. Also keep in mind that while I’m West Asian/Arab, I’m also white-passing so if I get anything wrong, I appreciate call-outs. (Also I finally got my laptop charger today so I can snip my posts again 😭)
Her treatment of Max in ‘Gamer’.
It’s not unique to her; it’s a very common salter thing to utterly tear into Max for being a “sexist jerk” and daring to underestimate princess Marinette because she’s a girl. Never mind that they canonically aren’t close friends because of Chloé’s bullying, so Max probably had no idea that Marinette’s liked video games all this time, where Adrien is the new boy so it’s just one more thing to learn about him.
It’s especially heinous compared to how the other classmates are treated far more leniently for their own mistakes - they still get salted on but Max, aka the Black boy, always seems to get singled out and held to higher standards. Just look at ‘Chameleon’ and how the other classmates are mildly to moderately attacked by salters but Max gets utterly ripped to shreds because he “should know better”. (Never mind that just because he’s smart doesn’t mean he’s good at human interaction. They just want to attack him).
It also angers me because people like Nathaniel and Ivan are absolved of what they do as akumas (like kidnapping others and literally forcing someone to go on a date with them) because they couldn’t help it, yet Max is literally held responsible for what he did when akumatised (because he dared to go after Princess Marinette) and even for daring to get akumatised in the first place. Both these things just make him a sore loser, apparently.
So SL ‘Gamer’ was the final straw for me, especially with how she characterised Max as a smug arsehole, and it made me so angry that I just exploded to my friends, but I didn’t know how to directly call it out without looking like a petty bitch.
Here’s a post I made about salters and ‘Gamer’ if you’re interested in a more coherent and in-depth thing about it.
Alya’s treatment throughout the whole thing.
In canon, she’s an enthusiastic and passionate girl who sometimes gets carried away and goes too far and who idolises Ladybug because Ladybug stands against evil. Here? She’s treated as the butt of the joke for being so starry-eyed over superheroes that she idolises Scarlet Lady while Marinette mocks her behind her back. Never mind her iconic line of “all that is needed for the triumph of evil is that good people do nothing” and this is why she loves Majestia in the first place. Never mind that she loves Ladybug because Ladybug is kind and passionate and strong and creative. Canon Alya wouldn’t want a bar of Scarlet Lady, who just sits around complaining, and yet SL!Alya worships her because...why? Running joke? The only Black girl in the series is treated as a gag to be made fun of by someone who’s supposed to be her best friend, just for the audience’s amusement. Marinette’s probably meant to look funny and relatable here, but she just looks like a major bitch to her new friend. Alya’s flaws are basically blown up and exaggerated for comedic effect, while Marinette in contrast is airbrushed to perfection, with no flaws and no anxiety that was only alleviated in canon by - guess what - being Ladybug.
It’s like Zoe wants to stick to canon while adding her own little “fun” twists for humour, like making Marinette snarky and perfect (which just makes her look like an utter bitch) and in the case of Alya, it does her so dirty that even Lila is more sympathetic. LILA. After SL humiliates Lila, Alya looks doubtful but buys some bullshit excuse so that she can continue to be the Scar-worshipping idiot. And then in the aftermath, her concern isn’t for Lila, the girl who was humiliated and bullied by a literal superhero and then ended up sick. No, she’s angry because...Lila lied on her blog. The blog that doesn’t have nearly as much recognition as in canon because SL would never validate her, unlike Ladybug. So her passion for her blog is exaggerated to imply that she’d say that a girl deserves to be bullied and sick because she told a few lies (since at this point, Alya doesn’t know about any possible malice on Lila’s part, just as in canon. All that’s known is the lying for attention).
It’s horrible hypocrisy, where Alya is held to higher standards than the other (white) characters and when she fails to meet those standards, she’s torn into. She’s not afforded any sympathy for being hurt that Lila lied to her; in fact, she’s demonised for feeling hurt, especially because of the running joke that her blog is focused on someone so horrible and she doesn’t see that. Lila is presented as the sympathetic one here. LILA. Just because Alya dared to believe her in canon.
Also, how she’s constantly trying to either tease Marinette for having a crush or insist that Marinette’s only doing what she does because of a crush...even though according to this ‘verse’s canon, Marinette is too good to make mistakes and do obsessive stuff over a crush, which is why canon Alya thinks this about her in the first place. That didn’t just come out of nowhere in the show purely for “woe is Marinette, her best friend doubts her”.
Like in the first part of ‘Gamer’, where she’s accusing Marinette of only entering the tournament to flirt with Adrien while Marinette so “coolly and calmly” rebuts her...why? By the ‘verse’s own logic, Marinette isn’t a flustered mess around Adrien. The only purpose of this scene is to glorify Marinette and her amazing calmness while making Alya look like a nosy idiot who dares to doubt her best friend. The logic of the ‘verse and of canon clash really jarringly in moments like this, and it becomes clear that the only purpose of these moments is to make Marinette look better at the expense of others. Most often her best friend, who’s an utter idiot for not seeing Scarlet Lady’s true nature and just can’t keep her nose out of Marinette’s business and so comes to wrong conclusions. Why are Marinette and Alya even friends in this ‘verse? SL!Marinette’s been nothing but condescending towards Alya most of the time.
Uh, and also the way she occasionally whitewashes Alya. Just look at the SL headers. She literally made Alya, aka a Black girl who’s one of the good guys, lighter than Lila, aka a white girl who’s one of the bad guys and not even that tanned in canon. Why do people make one of the villains darker and often whitewash one of the heroes? It’s not that hard to figure out.
(Also the way she really played into the aggressive Black girl stereotype in ‘Horrificator’ over a minor argument, even physically threatening Nino. Why? Literally why did she have to go full-on aggressive instead of just looking angry and scolding him or something?)
This all might not be conscious on Zoe’s part but the way Alya is treated is still disgusting, especially if you’re operating on internalised salt from other aspects of the salty fandom. I’ve seen her claims that she’s trying to help Alya improve and she’s not being salty but...even if she’s not being consciously salty, her salt is definitely still leaking over it and part of that salt includes racism. I also don’t see how making Alya a joke and exaggerating her flaws is helping her to improve when there was plenty to go off in canon but, well, that might just be me.
Even Marinette, who’s pretty much treated as white for 99% of it.
Marinette, aka the girl who’s only made visibly “Asian/Other” in SL ‘Reflekta’ with her Chinese-inspired Black Cat suit and name which is a one-off, while her permanent Bee outfit is just the bland tight suit that salters criticise Ladybug for having and her name is just Marigold. It comes across as using “Asianness” as a costume and it really didn’t sit right with me at first, but it took me a while to tease out why exactly this made me feel ick.
There’s nothing wrong with touching more on Marinette’s heritage and expanding on it in ways that the show doesn’t, especially because this is a big sticking point for salters, but again...it’s only a one-off. A costume. There aren’t casual hints sprinkled throughout the comic that just normally establish Marinette as half-Chinese, aside from like a page or two in ‘Timebreaker’ showing Sabine’s outfit. It’s another ‘Kung Food’ where it’s slammed into one episode and shoved into our faces that Marinette Is Chinese and it’s really jarring and unpleasant.
It just comes across as fetishising, is all. I don’t think it’s something most people would pick up on unless they’re used to being able to see this kind of thing.
Master Fu. Oh, Master Fu.
From an old man who made mistakes but tried as best as he could with the limited knowledge he had, he’s now a bumbling idiot who...put the earrings in Marinette’s bag instead of her room for some reason? To kickstart the plot? Especially because the ring was still in Adrien’s room. It’s very, very contrived.
And then in one of the most recent updates, Zoe has Adrien - a white boy - physically threaten Fu, aka an elderly Asian man. It’s disgusting. I was gobsmacked when I first saw it. And that’s the thing with salters: they tear into Adrien for being a white boy so they can look Enlightened when he hasn’t actually done anything racist, yet they then turn around and perpetuate actual racism in trying to “fix” him
There’s probably more but those are the examples that jump out at me of the racism in SL. There are plenty more problems but...whatever. I’ll be here all day if I try and cover those.
As for the Galahad thing...it’s personal. That original post was as much as I was comfortable revealing.

I hate Torb based on his character because he hates the Omnics mostly. I hate hearing his map based chat when someone chooses him on Kings Row, Nepal, or Numbani. His voice in general bugs me too. They way he talks about, "not liking all this standing around," when 95% of his game play is standing around bashing his turret pisses me off so much. I don't want you to think I'm raging against you or anything, but Torb's appearance is FAR from the reason I hate him.
okay i put this under a cut because it got really long but, discussing the matter of torb’s omnic hatred etc
i feel like the thing with torbjörn’s appearance is less of an active “he’s ugly so I hate him” kind of matter and more of a situation where people are just less willing to sympathise with him because he’s not as good-looking as the other characters
a lot of people pick the omnic hating matter as a reason to hate him, even though Zarya and Junkrat (both popular) both also vocally dislike omnics. I’m pretty wary towards the whole matter with demonising characters because they don’t like omnics in general (as people who hate junkrat like to do as well) since, like, it’s not really something you can equate with real-life racism in my opinion. Omnics destroyed zarya’s and junkrat’s homes, probably cost them people close to them, their homes, in junkrat’s case they’re the reason he grew up in pretty much Mad Max.
In Torbjörn’s case, he fought in the Omnic Crisis and saw first hand what omnics were capable of, kill people etc. All three of these characters have valid reasons to not trust omnics. it’s of course not GOOD that they hate them and they should learn that not all omnics are killing machines, and rather people with personalities, but it’s likely they haven’t really encountered friendly omnics, or avoided for “they killed my friends/family/destroyed my home”-reasons. which is understandable if you ask me. you can’t really put “I hate this group because they actively hurt people close to me and destroyed my home” on the same level as “I just hate them ebcause of what they are without a reason”
there’s infinitely less hate towards Zarya for hating omnics than Torbjörn, and while more people point it out for Junkrat it’s still much less than zarya. The pattern i’m seeing here is that the more likable characters get more of a pass for it, or rather the ones that are easier to hate (loud, brash, violent junkrat + grumpy, small torbs) get the “omnic racist” label slapped onto them. It always feels to me like people are trying to justify their dislike for the character with these kinds of things, like when people were grasping at straws as to why gabe reyes had to be abusive towards his subordinates so they’d have a “legit” reason to demonise him.
What I’m getting at is that people are clearly more willing to excuse the same flaw in a character that’s loved and attractive (Zarya, to an extend Junkrat but that depends on the person since some people think he’s the devil incarnate) that they use to absolutely smack down a different character who just happens to be less appealing in design.
Of course not liking him because he hates Omnics is a legit reason, even though I do think everyone should remember that there’s a REASON that characters don’t like omnics, the omnic crisis that killed SO MANY PEOPLE and tore families apart, but do you also hate Zarya and Junkrat for that reason?
in general there isn’t really anything wrong with disliking a character, i’m just upset that it seems like so many people are influenced by his “ugly” appearance and are way more ready to not forgive him for little flaws, such as, his voice or that he’s a building class. I’m not talking about Torbjörn IN-GAME anyway, since in-game he’s a menace and i want him to leave if he’s on the enemy team, I’m talking about his character and his lore. He’s constantly left out of flashback fics to old overwatch or treated like he’s just some asshole. There’s very few fics where he’s in any positive light, as compared to Junkrat and Zarya, who both hate omnics and have tons of positive fics about them.
Torbjörn is clearly friends with Reinhard and Ana, he has a big family and he’s probably good with kids, he (tries) to joke around with Symmetra, he’s not a total asshole and it just makes me mad that people ignore him or make him totally unwilling to be nice to anyone. People call Soldier: 76 the dad character even though more or less all of his voicelines are just him being a bitter old man towards everyone, while Torbjörn (an actual dad) actually has pretty fun voicelines! Just go on his wiki and look through his interactions. They’re playful for the most part.
He just really does not deserve all this hate and whether it’s subconscious or not, I really think that him not being attractive plays a huge part in why people just flat out hate him.
